Former Headquarters Church, Korea
During this period, you went out to evangelize in more than four hundred places throughout South Korea, and now many churches have been raised up. For that very reason, I believe the time has come when we Unification believers must make a new resolve.
As the Association president has already said, I am grateful to you for shedding your blood and sweat, for embracing each region as your own, and for fighting with your very lives at stake.
God, Who Has Carried Out the Providence of Severing Worldly Attachment
What I wish to say to you is this: from now on, the time has come for us to fight, and we stand in a position facing the hour that Heaven longs for, so we cannot but make a certain resolve.
I believe that through this evangelizing period you have experienced, keenly and to the depths, that we must make a resolve not merely as individuals, but a resolve by which—standing in the place of heaven and earth—we can move Heaven and move the earth, and at the same time move the countless multitudes of humankind.
Because we have come to know this standard of the age before others, we must understand well what kind of time this is.
When Heaven has led the multitudes of the good, it has never led them along a level road. That Heaven has held on to history until now by laying altar upon altar of tears and sweat and blood, even in the place of being trampled, is an inescapable fact whether one reads any book of history or observes the course of the providence.
For this reason, we know well that even the culture of history we have been able to seek and establish today was not brought about by those who reveled in their circumstances and lived in seats of ease, but through the multitudes who were trampled and driven out, by their tears and sweat and blood. And so, from the individual through the family, or through society, the people, and the nation, on beyond the world toward a single goal, history has been woven together, and until now the culture of humankind has developed.
Then what kind of time is this?
We know well that this is a time when everyone—whether one who has a conscience or one who lives the life of the Way—cannot but make a new resolve of heart. This has become a time when, in the very society in which one finds oneself, one has lost attachment. As God carries out the providence over this earth, when there come to be great multitudes walking the path of the Way, He must drive them onto the road that severs their attachment to the world.
From the family, from one's own flesh—there exist within the world all manner of desire-driven attributes, yet it is a fact that God has led us in the direction of removing these.
This is not merely a matter of religious people.
If there is a Will of God to accomplish a single purpose today, centering on religion and religious people, then what kind of world will come in the final Last Days?
There, God must inevitably drive all people into such a social environment in which they lose their attachment.
What kind of time is the Last Days?
When we ask what kind of time the Last Days must be, it is the time when people's attachment toward the very thing into which they have been pouring their lives grows ever fainter and fainter, until at last they lose it.
Such Last Days must inevitably come at a certain hour. Why must it be so? Because the nation that God seeks to establish and the world that evil has been leading are opposites. With attachment to the world, the work of Heaven cannot be accomplished.
Then, if God is determined to accomplish His purpose and establish His Will, we can see in a comprehensive way that, upon this earth, Heaven is carrying out the providence by severing attachment—the attachment of the countless multitudes of humanity, or attachment to the nation, attachment to one's people, or attachment to the studies one pursues, and going further, attachment to the family, or within the relationship of parent and child, in every field and every department.
Moreover, when we observe the present moment comprehensively, the democratic and communist worlds are locked in confrontation.
The further this current of thought advances, the more even the people within the democratic camp themselves come to lose their attachment to the democratic camp.
On the other hand, the world is bound to move in such a direction that even the communists lose their attachment to communism. It is a fact that, passing through such phenomena of struggle, history has until now unfolded in the direction of severing attachment to humanity and has carried on its course toward the end.
We Must Sever Attachment to the World and Form a Bond With the One Who Stands in God's Stead
When we observe from Heaven's side, that tendency must inevitably advance from the individual, through the family, beyond society and the nation, even to the realm of thought of the world and the Cosmos; and going further, those who hold to religion or to conscience—the churchgoers, or the seekers of the Way—must likewise advance in that same tendency.
For this reason, when we look at the established churches and all the religions today, because the time has come when those people must inevitably face the original Will directed toward a new religious body, division will surely break out within every denomination without exception, and the countless saints who had been going forward into martyrdom with all their sincerity and devotion will be driven to reject it and depart. Such Last Days must surely come.
Then why must God proceed in such a direction?
You must understand this. Between the world of evil and the world of good—to cross over a single ridge out of the world of evil, accounts must inevitably be settled. And what time is the time for settling these accounts? It is the era of judgment. That time is the era of judgment.
If we hold attachment to all the things of the world and cling to them to the end, we cannot cross over the great place of judgment before Heaven. For this reason, Heaven is putting everything in order.
Finally, it drives one even to a solitary place of such an extremity that one can no longer trust oneself, can no longer trust even one's beloved—a place where one cannot possess anything one might cling to in attachment and boast of before the world.
Driving one in this way, there is a providential Will to make one acknowledge, in that place, that it cannot be done by human strength, so that one may once again look toward Heaven and raise attachment toward Heaven. That is how it proceeds.
Then, since this age is a time of judgment, how will the judgment be carried out in this age?
It is at once judgment by the Word and judgment of character, and at once judgment of character and judgment of heart. Because you have learned the Principle, you will understand this well. It is not judgment carried out blindly. It is not that fire is poured down and cataclysms of heaven and earth break out upon this land, and everything is destroyed. Absolutely not.
Judgment must contain, first, judgment by the Word; next, judgment of character; and next, judgment of heart.
When we set the whole history of Christianity side by side, what is it that was sought over the four thousand years up to Jesus?
It was the seeking of the true truth. Beyond that, it was the seeking of a single person of character who, standing before God who had become truth itself, centered on truth, could call upon God freely, could speak to God freely, could face God's Word directly, and could answer God's Word directly.
Having established that person of character, what is to be done?
There is the Will of God to lead him to the place where God and that person become one body, where he can receive God's love and answer God with love.
For this reason, the time from Jesus' coming until now has been a history of judgment centered on the Word. It has come down to the present under such a slogan as, “Whoever believes is saved, and whoever does not believe cannot be saved.”
Therefore, the Word and the substance must inevitably be joined. God's true Word must inevitably leave behind actual fruit and substance. This is the principle of heavenly law.
Yet when all things were created upon this earth, all things were created for the sake of the true son and daughter—but the substance of the true one did not appear. That is the Fall.
The fallen world is the world that became one in which one could not, having attained the substance of the true one, live together with God. To seek this once again, God must once more give the Word and connect it with the heart. He intends to set up that Word once again, to set up the substantial form that stands for the Word, and then, after that substantial form has been completed, to add the heart of God and bring about the bond of parent and child. You will understand well that this is the purpose of creation.
Because things stand thus, Heaven's carrying out of the providence until now has been for the sake of seeking and establishing the Word. Yet to this day, after Jesus came and went, the true Word has not come forth.
What kind of Word is the Word, and what is the purpose of the Word?
It is not for the sake of saving the individual and the nation.
The purpose of the Word is to revive the ideal of this heaven and earth—beyond the individual, beyond the family, into society, the nation, the world, and further still, into the formless world. This purpose must be accomplished.
Why is this so?
Having created Adam and Eve, God blessed them, telling them to have dominion over all things. In having dominion, it is not only the external aspect. There is a standard to have dominion even over the internal aspect.
What kind of Word is that Word?
It is not for the sake of my own self-belief and going to heaven. He spoke such a Word with the intent that, at the same time as I believe, my family believes; and at the same time as my family believes, society, the nation, the whole world, and going further still, the countless spirit individuals in the heavens become one, and advance to the place of complete oneness together with the ideal that God was creating.
Centering on the Word of God, the Ideal World Must Be Established
Seen from that aspect, when we look at Christianity today, the worldview of Christianity has not yet been set up.
The individual, founded inevitably upon the original family and passing through the ideal of society, cannot escape the relationship of being a citizen, or of being a member of the world's humanity.
For this reason, the time when we ought to seek and establish the purpose of salvation centering on our individual self has passed. The time of praying with blood and sweat, “Father, save me,” has passed. The time is no longer such a time.
For this reason it is a fact that, in olden days, to accomplish this historical purpose, God—leaving these countless human beings nestled in the bosom of evil and governing on just as they were—has been working through history, from a new angle and taking on a new and different form, building up the forms of society and nation from the individual or from the family, to raise here the people called the chosen people.
Thus, the purpose of God's salvation is the accomplishment of a universal purpose—and, going further, a cosmic purpose. Therefore, the Word required in the era of judgment by the Word, which human beings need today, must likewise be a Word that can transcend the ideal of the Cosmos.
For this reason, it will not do for the individual alone to be saved. When I collide with that Word—thoroughgoing and principled—proceeding from a worldview and from a cosmic view, then today I, before the Word of God, just as a lump of earth was created by receiving light, here have life arise, have emotion arise, and here can set out to seek an ideological direction. Human beings inevitably need such a Word of devoted sincerity.
Has a Word with such content come forth upon this earth today?
It has not. For this reason, though, reckoned by the chronology of the Bible, we have a history of six thousand years from after the Fall until now. In the course of that six-thousand-year history, God has not been able to say all that He wished to say. The words of the Bible are words that Jesus spoke while he lived as a single man.
The ideal centered on Jesus must be such that it ought to be established before the whole universe. Yet it has come down to the present, centered on the providence of individual salvation. You must understand this.
Heaven must inevitably establish—beyond individual salvation, the salvation of the family; and beyond the salvation of the family, the salvation of society and even the salvation of the nation. As a minimal unit, there must be a nation. Only then can a worldwide history be carried out.
For this reason, Christians today must realize that they are a people without a nation. Those who walk the path of the Way are a people without a nation. Here, there is no nationality, and there is no nation into which one can cross over. There are no people one can call one's own kindred. You must understand all of this.
In this present world, what is it that this age is demanding today?
In the phenomena of this present age, what are we demanding from religious people?
If Heaven carries out the providence, then there must inevitably be a standard by which one can establish a nationality centering on the ideal of the Way, by which one can fix a national territory by the ideal of the Way, and by which one can stand as a people centering on the ideal of the Way.
What must be done to set such phenomena in order?
When we consider a single field, if there are a hundred households, the way of living of those hundred households differs entirely, even in living a single day.
Even though they differ, they cannot but have a point of convergence united in a certain principled heart. To establish this point of convergence, Christianity holds up the theme of love.
If it is so, then who, before that love, will be grafted on and restored?
Before the words of that love, Heaven must single out such a standard that anyone can revere. For this reason, hanging up here the term bridegroom and bride, the Church and the Bible admonished this to establish an absolute standard; yet the great multitudes of Christians who believe in the Church today do not stand in such a state, and so the problem is great.
Because Heaven has been carrying out such a providence, what God ultimately longs for in this age is not that some individual believes well and goes to heaven, on the foundation of the heart. He yearns for such a world, centered on the Word, in which the family, centered on the individual, and beyond the family, the nation, or the whole world, can become one before the heart of God. This is unavoidable.
Only by Becoming One With One Another Centered on the Word, Can the Ideal World Be Realized
For this reason, the age of believing blindly has passed. Since we cannot deny the actual life in which all matters relate to us—down even to our everyday feelings—taking as their condition the process of reason and of formulaic law, today we too must be more meticulous, likewise in our notions of faith. It differs from the blind kind.
Then, where lies that purpose which the Bible points to and which the Bible longs for today?
What is the purpose of God?
Where lies the purpose of judgment? It is absolutely not the purpose of judging a single individual to save him and send him to heaven. The purpose is to realize God's nation of goodness. God's purpose is not to kill everyone off. God holds a heart of love that says Do not kill anyone.
For that reason, when we ask in what manner this history is being led to set this in order today, it must inevitably pass through a blocked process. Without that, there is no resolution.
Only by inevitably settling these accounts can a new work be begun. Can evil and good play in one place? They cannot share one place together. They must be divided.
Then, if it is God's Will to move now from the evil world over into the good world, here a condition of judgment must inevitably be presented. In carrying out that judgment, it is done with the Word.
The purpose of that Word is, in all things, salvation. This is carried out in the providence centering on such a universal ideal—one that can reach the heart of the individual, can reach the heart of the family members, and can reach the heart-world of the citizenry, or of peoples whose borders differ; a standard that, seen from God's side, can reach through to a single heart.
Do you know who the Christians of the whole world are today?
The Christians of the whole world are brothers and a people of the Kingdom of Heaven. One who cannot hold the notion of brotherhood cannot become a citizen.
One who has strayed from the bond of brotherhood cannot become a citizen. When we look at this phenomenon of the Church today, they are biting and tearing at one another.
Where has the bond of brotherhood all gone…?
What kind of time is this time now demanding?
Because a new time has come for building the Kingdom of Heaven, the heavenly nation, we must pass through and over the process of becoming a people.
Then have you attained the era of brotherhood?
This is a time when each must put this question to oneself. As for us today, we must clearly recognize that all the systems of the society in which we have lived until now, historically and centering on the background of my life—all the systems of the family, all the creeds of faith—all of these together have prevented me from forming the true bond of brotherhood by which I could seek and establish my brothers before Heaven.
Even if those who do not possess the bond of brotherhood band together and style themselves a people, that will inevitably be shattered. In loving the nation, one must love it more than a brother. Heaven is driving us onto such a course.
Therefore, the Christians of the whole world today, and all the more the countless multitudes who would walk the path of the Way, must now be of one mind, seek and establish the bond of brotherhood, and move centered on a Way that says, “Who shall take our bond away?” Such a form must surely come forth upon this earth.
In the age of the early Church of Christianity, when a brother shed his blood and fell, others gave their lives and fell, marching out powerfully against the world of evil while leaving behind a bond by which they could press on heedless even of the place of death.
Yet today, failing to find the bond of brotherhood among one another, they fight—and here it collapses, collapses. They are heading down the single road to collapse. But Heaven's time has drawn near.
What Heaven demands is the seeking of a people for the Kingdom of Heaven, and a people must inevitably pass through the process of the bond of brotherhood. All of this has been severed.
We Must Have Attachment to Seek the Word of God
As for severing the bonds that have until now been formed in the world today…—Heaven rejoices because they are broken.
For what reason does it shatter everything today and make attachment vanish?
To take it away and turn it in a direction where attachment can be placed on another side, it severs and settles the entire course of history today. And so, in this present age, it is now producing such a worldwide phenomenon in which attachment cannot be placed in any field.
How will this purpose come to its conclusion?
The purpose is not to cast away all attachment entirely. While severing attachment toward what is wrong, it has those who set Heaven as their standard hold attachment for one another and attain a form in which they can sing of a bond as brothers beyond the brothers of the world, and as parents beyond the parents of the world. Unless one inevitably attains such a form, one is destroyed.
For this reason, though the Unification Church arose in Korea and has become the object of countless denunciations, it has not perished. When will there come such a time in which these people sever all their attachments entirely and cannot, however it tries, measure their shoulders against ours?
If there is a people that receives God's judgment first, then such a people receives it first. Yet among the peoples that receive judgment first, the people who do not receive judgment are the people who receive God's love.
However wide the world of heaven and earth may be, I long for the coming of a time when such material can surely sweep through our whole society today, or through the whole of our realm of custom, and bring about such a social order.
Lay your hand on your breast and reflect.
Is there anyone whom you believe in, resolved to stake your life?
Do you have anyone whom you wish to attend with all your devotion?
It has become a reality in which parents kill their children and children kill their parents, and wives and children rebel against one another, unfolding into a grievous spectacle.
Today, I cannot hold attachment toward this family. It is the same, even in whatever academic field one specializes in.
Why is this?
In such an environment, where the nation perishes and the people sink into ruin, one cannot hold it. Why can one not hold it? When we look at this actual society in which we live today, and all the more at the actual condition of Korea, it has become a people upon which attachment cannot be placed. The more it is so, the more we must not collapse in despair; rather, the time has come when we cannot but take to heart, here, that it must be so—that the time which surely had to come has come.
Where lies that purpose for which Heaven drives us into such a place?
The purpose is not to shatter us and cast us into hell; rather, the purpose lies in opening up a single road by which we, in such a place, may forget all of it, sever all of it, and once again gather a single heart of undivided devotion to look toward Heaven and make our appeal.
For the Korean people today, all the more in this hour, the road now to be walked is not religion, nor politics, nor culture, nor any existing religion up to now.
Why? So long as they do not possess the content of a religion that lays down its very life and that can be called the Will of God, a religion that can hold such attachment, all of this will pass away. Because such a time has come, we today—and all the more the young men and women who consider themselves knowing—must criticize and analyze with a sharp eye. Religion, too, has become blocked. Philosophy, too, has become blocked.
Can one believe in the politics of today's environment, or in this and that and the other?
Is there any attachment in you?
If there is attachment, it is attachment to the single loaf of bread one eats in a day. What has unfolded from this perspective, what has come forward holding up this very thing, is the materialist view of history today.
This materialist view of history is at the moment when it can attain a worldwide stage. It comes forward in such a tendency, looking toward an hour of its own. But this will not do.
Human beings cannot live by eating alone. However full-bellied a seat I may occupy, I cannot ward off the heavenly fortune of my heart, nor all the fortunes of this current of thought that bores into and steals into my spirit today.
Only if I have the capacity to ward it off and digest it is there joy; otherwise, there is no joy. For this reason, because this is a time when the era of judgment draws near, it is a time when one must tremble in anxiety, restlessness, and fear—the Last Days, in which there is not a single thing toward which I can incline my heart and hold attachment. You must realize that we are placed in such a time.
What we must once again be attached to today is the humanity of the world.
Therefore, you must go forth crying out, “Let us seek a single Word that can raise a new attachment.”
Since I have lost everything entirely, from my parents on down, the time has come when a single Word is needed that can once again raise attachment toward what was lost.
Since we have come to an age, in this current of world thought, when no doctrine can be believed in, the time has come when there is need of a single Word and a single ideal by which—feeling something beyond this, and inclining my life toward it even should I fall in the place of death—I can feel an attachment greater than life itself. From this standpoint, do some self-criticism. I am saying, do some self-criticism.
Then will Heaven shatter everything entirely? Since such a time has come, through this Word my individual self lives; and as the individual lives, the people lives; and as the people lives, the world lives; and as the world lives, God lives; and even God must meet an hour in which He escapes the han of His lamentation over six thousand years, attains the sovereignty of liberation, and can give command over all the world.
So it is not that He seeks to shatter everything. In that respect, it is an inevitable fact that, if there is a God, a movement must break out that can hold attachment. Is that not so?
The time of believing blindly, of doing things by rule of thumb, has passed.
What Will Remain as History's Final Tradition Is Heart Alone, Centered on Heavenly Affection
Now, when we hold attachment, we must know the Word that is the motive by which we can hold that attachment.
This Word must be a Word that can tread upon and surmount the self. This Word must be a Word that can shatter the conceptual religion in which I have believed and gone forward until now.
This Word must be a Word to which heaven and earth can respond when, kicking aside all the problems of the doctrines and thought of the age and of society today, and centering on a new banner, I cry out toward the Cosmos.
For this reason, to come forth with a Word of such content, the globalism (세계주의) that stands today upon a logical view will not do. It must be a Cosmism (천주주의) that comes forth, surpassing this logic, through an ideal of the heart.
When we speak of a person being happy, it is not that knowing much is happiness; it is not that becoming the dean or president of some university is happiness; it is not that becoming something of a nation today is happiness. By no means.
One is happy only in the place where that heart, surpassing and surpassing the environment one possesses, can sing of a settled value that cannot be exchanged for anything else of any worth.
For what reason has God suffered until now? Where lies the cause by which such terms as having suffered and having toiled can be attached to God until now? That the value of the heart cannot be established in the world of creation today—this is God's sorrow, and His suffering.
When history is gathered in its entirety, what will remain at the last?
The heart of humanity alone remains. You must understand this.
The heart of humanity remains—and what kind of heart is that heart?
It must not be the kind that has until now been driven out and destroyed in the fallen world, nor a heart that lingers in such a place of attachment-less-ness; rather, it must be a heart of such content that, for all eternity, no one can occupy this mind. It must be such a Word. Then the individual and the whole become one.
In the matter of the heart, it transcends value. It transcends the value of relative comparison. However great and exalted God may be, when He comes forth through my heart, even should there be a matter in which I run counter to God's order, in the realm of value relativity comes forth.
When, in such a place, one becomes some human being who can take joy, centering on God and revering God with one's heart, he will be one of infinite happiness.
The ideal of religion must cross over even to that place. A human being is not made to move upon receiving a command.
Heaven has been carrying out the providence until now to lead humanity to such a standard. What will remain at the last, as the tradition of history is the heart.
What kind of heart?
It is not human affection (인정). It is not the heart of human affection but a heart of heavenly affection (천정).
When we look at history today, there were many filial sons, loyal subjects, and women of fidelity.
The footholds of heart that can run through human ethics can be learned in any number and heard in any number, yet they have not the slightest bearing on me. I mean that the relationship between one person and another cannot be erased. There is no resolution to that. For this reason, in dealing decisively with this, everything must be intermingled.
For this reason, the trend of the era of attachment-lessness cannot but show itself as a phenomenon entering immediately before the judgment of the world. You must understand this.
When we lay open our breast and look, when we examine the inward state of the heart in which I call upon the Father and say I believe in the Lord—if there is one who styles himself a child of God and steps forward, does he know the matter of God's heart?
How does God's heart stand toward the individual?
How does God's heart stand toward the people?
And how does God's heart stand in facing the nation and the world?
If one does not know this, one can never become a loyal subject or a woman of fidelity.
You must clearly understand that the purpose of history is to go forth seeking a resting place of the heart in which humanity can take joy in common. The purpose of culture, or the purpose of Jesus, or the purpose of each individual—the whole of every purpose is, by that standard, for the sake of effecting a single settling of accounts.
For this reason, from this perspective, what religion is it that comes forth holding up such content?
The religion that appeared first is Christianity.
The foundation of the heart on which Jesus called himself the bridegroom and called you the bride is not the heart of the bridegroom and bride centered on fallen-world human beings today. It is to have them go forth to seek the bond of heavenly affection that such a condition is set up before the ignorant people today.
Following the one who had formed the bond, crossing over the enemy lines of death and widening history, making a worldwide foundation of expectation, it has worked through history.
To Release the Hidden Han of Heavenly Affection Is the True Truth
You know the bride. The bride is not in such an easy position. If there is one qualified to be the bride upon this earth today, the person who can style himself the bride upon this earth….
If there is some loyal subject in the satanic world, the evil world today, he must become a being who possesses, among the countless loyal subjects, a content and a fidelity of heart with which none can be compared. Unless that is so, God cannot establish him as a loyal subject of Heaven. Why? Because, as a matter of dignity, a loyal subject of the satanic world cannot be established as a loyal subject of the heavenly world. That standard is the standard.
“Even if there are women of fidelity or filial sons, and among them there is this one or that one, when they are compared to the one filial son who can set up all the countless filial sons of six thousand years at once and establish them before Heaven, they cannot be exchanged for him!”
Until a filial son of such value appears, one cannot become a son of God. Going to that place which Satan toyed with and trampled under, it is God who suffers the loss. It is for this reason that, in the context of Christianity, there is the condition, “Love me more than anyone.” You must understand this clearly.
You must realize how sorrowful the heart of the Father is, who, holding such a heart, comes forth seeking humanity today.
When we come to know it, we must realize that He is a Father who has come forth bearing a han whose heart cannot be comforted though one wail for a thousand years, ten thousand years.
You must realize that the era of the Second Advent is the time for seeking the one hour of judgment, establishing one son and daughter who can comfort the heart of this han, and once again blessing the whole vast universe.
Put the question to yourselves and answer it. How many tears have you shed for the sake of Heaven; how much sweat have you shed for the sake of Heaven; how much of the blood of my life have you shed for the sake of Heaven?
When those who have not been acknowledged before any standard of Heaven style themselves the sons and daughters of God, even a robber laughs. That is how I see it. I believe that during this evangelizing period, a great many family members will come to be. Now, how must we make our resolve? This is the matter for us to consider first.
What kind of age is this time?
Because this time is the era of judgment, the era of judgment by the Word, in which God carries out the providence anew, is coming. This is the Principle and its principle. A mathematical formula transcends any national border. It transcends all the content of any person called great. This is utterly ordinary, and utterly one-thread-through-all-things.
Have you come to know the formulaic heart of God?
The place where a parent loves a child is not two but one. The place of truly loving is not two but one.
You do not know the content of the heavenly heart-world, in which a new ideal model must be made upon the formulaic order. It is, “Let us just believe and go to heaven.” Then how easy that would be! I would not even say such words to you, shedding sweat. I would stand here and speak. I would not have to wage this fight before the people today, dedicating my life and walking the path of persecution.
The time has come when the young people of Unification, and all the more we Unification believers, need a new awakening.
If, having entered the Unification Church, it cannot resolve everything of such content for you, then pack up your bundle and go. As I have already said, if it is a Word that cannot deliver the Word in which heavenly affection lies hidden, a Word whose content cannot set fire to my eyes, it is a counterfeit. It is the Antichrist.
However fluent a sermon one preaches, having memorized all sixty-six books of the Bible, if there is no truth of such content as can part the tangled blood of death, it is not truth.
That which has revolutionized the history of change as well…. Only when this feeling of blood that fights in this gutter is turned into a new feeling of blood does history move into a new era of revolution….
We know the historical fact that we have until now come forth toward the opening of the gate of a new history.
Today, are you seeking that form by which a new bloodstream is planted in your heart, and by which—toward the purpose of a new ideal in which new flesh and blood throbs—you can, in that position, boast of value?
When we put to ourselves the question whether my position, my value, and my purpose have a direction, it is grave. You must clearly realize that God is the position of eternal immutability, the value of eternal immutability, and the subject of the purpose of eternal immutability.
The question is whether you yourselves can also attain the position of eternal immutability, the value of eternal immutability, and the object of the purpose of eternal immutability.
For this reason, we today, after wandering in search through this street and that village, this church and that church, this denomination and that denomination, and countless people, have in the end found our way here, to Unification. Though I know that sweat ran upon the brows by which you came to find this path, that welts remained upon your backs, and that wounds were inflicted on your every step, still I cannot but speak of one corner of history. Why?
So long as God's sweat and tears and blood remain to this day before this people, before the humanity of this world today, we must become the filial sons, women of fidelity, and loyal subjects who comfort the heavenly heart.
Therefore, if you have the confidence to turn our blood into the Father's blood, our sweat into the Father's sweat, and our tears into the Father's tears, then come; and if you do not, then do not come. You must understand well why this is so.
Jesus, Who Came as the Messiah of the Word but Departed Without Fulfilling His Mission
It was to establish a single Word of heavenly law that God's six thousand years of history existed. Yet you must realize that He was a God who could not deal with the Word as He wished. It is bitter beyond words. It is bitter.
From the position of being a Father, fallen humanity that has borne the name of children—seen by their bond, they are sons, yet seen by the circumstances, they stand in the position of enemies; how is this to be broken through?
It is for this reason that He moved people of conscience and of Will and broke through this wall. There must surely come such a time when, the blood of my heart boiling up, I can call out “Father,” and when all heaven and earth melt and more at the voice of the son calling “Father” and the voice of the Father calling “son.” Only then does it become the time when judgment ends upon this earth.
When your mind thinks of the Father, is the heart of your mind that can wail earnestly and fervently?
Have you become an individual who, heedless of any injustice in which my flesh is torn and trampled, can shatter the wall of tears and the sea of tears and fulfill the appointed quota? It is a time to reflect. I, too, have wept at one time. I have wept without end. That was not for the sake of some desire or purpose of my single self. It was because I knew that the time which must resolve the historical turning point centered on such a starting point would surely come in the era of judgment.
When I came to ponder how the grievous spectacle of a humanity of han, centered on historical twists and turns, came to be made, I could feel the very fact that I gasped and wailed, longing for the form of the true son who would stand in the place of the one heavenly affection. I longed for one place where, before the voice longing for and wandering searching for the Father, harmonizing with the voice that comes resounding back, I could cry out, “Here I am.”
Do not boast of decades of religious life. Before the voice with which the Father calls, before the answer with which He calls, anxious over that heart….
Is there upon this earth a true son and daughter who can take up everything of the Father's circumstances and bear the responsibility?
Ponder it. I am saying, ponder it centering on yourselves. It was a pitiful and bitter Heaven. It was the heart of the Father who could do nothing. Satan—this was a human history bearing such a han that there would be no loss even if, thousands of years ago, it had been swept into the fiery pit of hell as a sacrifice of judgment and made to vanish in sulphurous fire. Bearing with that, He has come down to the present.
If there were nothing of the bond left—” I am the Father, you are sons”—you could not go on living with any confidence.
We are singing the heart of Restoration. Now is the time when the voice that comes resounding, called out in the voice of the Father, is needed here. What I long for here is not the longing for some worldly thing.
Since the world has already come to the time when it is all severed and blocked, now, if I have my ears here, my eyes, my mouth, and my feelings, then the feeling that enters through the features of the face and the five senses must be able to run through a new feeling that can surpass the feeling of old. In the place where one has clearly grasped the fact that this feeling has been bound together with heavenly affection, I must clearly know that I am the son and daughter of the Father.
Because humanity is meant to cross over such a process, the shield called salvation is what began to teach the ignorant human beings—those wretched human beings, fallen and trampled—by gestures of the hand.
The Messiah is the one who came to protect, by parable and symbol, the humanity that has come down to the present without passing through the inward state of the heart. What kind of Messiah is that Messiah? The Messiah of the heart.
What kind of Messiah is that Messiah?
The Messiah of substance. What kind of Messiah is that Messiah? The Messiah of the Word—yet what Jesus came to this earth and showed was that he did not complete the role of the Messiah of the Word. He went without completing the standard of the Word, without completing the standard of character, and without completing the standard of heart.
What he left and departed, leaving behind a Word that was a Word, is the Bible. That is a parable and a symbol.
Unification Members Who Must Go Beyond the Individual and the World to Resolve the Han of God
What is it that we must now seek here?
We must realize that, together with the Word, after passing through the Word, there comes the era of passing through substance. This is what Christianity does not know now.
The purpose of reading and studying the Bible is to pass through the standard of substance. Unless one passes through the standard of substance—unless, holding fast to that substance, one knows the circumstances upon this earth—one cannot become the bride.
For this reason, humanity upon this earth must welcome the Lord. We who have not completely passed through the Word, we who have not completely passed through substance, we who have not completely passed through heart—when one quietly observes, it is today's reality that we desire only the very best.
O Lord, who is the bridegroom?
O Lord, who is love! To go forth even to the place of love, the Word must be resolved. If one has internalized the Word, one must become a person of character standing in the place of Jesus, who can become one with the Word.
If one disregards all this and believes, does one go to heaven and become the bride? Let us see whether one goes or not. We study the Bible.
In studying the Bible, what is the problem?
When one reads the Bible, is it just that everyone, all of them, are as in John chapter 3 verse 16? By no means. It is not so.
If God has sorrow, what is the most sorrowful thing?
When we say God has the suffering of the cross, what is the greatest suffering, and what is the injustice? Knowing the whole Bible cannot settle the accounts. There is no root—no root. When we search the Bible today, there is no root.
This is a grave matter. They have become princes who wander and fight and cry “this heresy, that heresy.” However much they have fought…—Must branch fight with branch, and leaf fight with leaf? When autumn comes, they all fall away. The sap of life is what extends outward. It circulates. Through what? Through the root.
If you would know this…—just as Peter, dying, hung upside down upon the cross, cried “Lord!”- you must dig out the content of the root by which, even while dying, you can be joined in heart with the Lord, and form the bond.
You must understand what the circumstances were that sought to flow down with this heart in which Jesus, even as he went forth on the way of the cross, to the place of death, said, “Father, not as I will, but as you will.”
If one does not understand that, one is dead—dead. It is time to resolve the unresolved problems of the Bible. Is it not so? Though everything was given, since not everything was resolved, what more do you await? It means we have come to the Last Days. Now you must understand this clearly.
Therefore, when Jesus came upon this earth, he came seeking the bride. The purpose for which he stepped forward and cried out before the opposing people of Israel was not the individual purpose of believing in Jesus and going to heaven.
The purpose is, “Believe in me and save Israel.” You must understand this. You must understand it clearly. It is, “Believe in me and save Israel; believe in Israel and save the world.”
Jesus came to save the spiritual world and the earth. It is not that, after believing in Jesus, I alone go to heaven. That is an utterly improper notion.
Where is there such a purpose of goodness?
Even our believing in Jesus must be a believing for the sake of the people. Even my loving God must be loving for the sake of the world.
If there is a God, He will yearn for such a believer. What do you suppose it would be like?
Think of it the other way around.
If it is the Will of God's providence—looking upon the responsibility to complete the great public work (公業) of the Cosmos, mobilizing countless peoples and connecting people of conscience to attain a single form to liberate the sovereignty of goodness—then it must not be for the sake of my individual self.
What is for the sake of the individual is shattered and falls away. I mean it sinks into the fire. That must be shattered. If it is not shattered, God is ruined. A religion for the sake of one's own clan, for the sake of a single nation, must be shattered. If that is not shattered, it means there is no God.
For this reason, Christianity worldwide has come to a time of confusion today. This is not done by human strength. God must shatter it. Why? Because God's purpose differs from the position and value that they themselves possess.
When we come to cry out the ideal of Unification, what we believe is not for the sake of my believing and going to heaven. This must be severed.
If I believe and save the people, and the saved people go to heaven, then will I go to heaven or to hell? Because the directionality of faith has all been reversed, there are many twists and turns. You must understand this.
We Unification believers say: “What I believe is to save this people; what I believe is to save this humanity and the world; and going further, since God is in sorrow, it is to liberate even the sorrow of God.” Those of you who do not know say, “God is some all-knowing, all-powerful God…,” but they say that only because they do not know. To know the whole true intent of the one who speaks here, you would have to study this. “Ah, so God was sorrowful….”
Where did your sorrow come from?
Our joy and anger, grief and pleasure came forth from Heaven. So it is. Therefore, let us, in being driven, be driven to the utmost. Though we receive the opposition of countless religious people, we must not become a band that vanishes in it.
When we go forth crying out for the sake of the multitude, if there in us is a single flame that has such content as can overturn the heart of the multitude, then we live.
It is for this reason that, in our age today, the age of the Word of heavenly law is coming. The time has come when the Word must be sought—the age of the Word.
To seek the Word and become the bride, one must pass through the forms of subject and object.
One who desires to become the bride must, in the standard of character, be such a person of character whose everyday feeling can be harmonized through all the content of the heart that Jesus passed through. Is there such a person?
Only When a Movement to Restore Attachment to the Word Arises Upon This Earth Will a Way of Life Open for Humanity
When we look for that heart in the spiritual world today, it means that Jesus longed infinitely for the Second Advent. You must realize this. God waited for two thousand years.
In Jesus' age, when they asked when the Lord would come, was not everything spoken of?
They thought he would come within their lifetimes, but because the foundation of heart that could face the ideal of the Second Advent was not in place, He has, weaving a han-laden historical course of sacrifice, established a time and a person, and has sought until now over two thousand years, longing for a time when He could move worldwide.
The heart of Heaven that wished to come again was earnest—yet where lay the circumstances by which He could not come?
It was because you were ignorant, and going further, because you were heartless. That is it. When the Lord comes upon this earth, he means to come to rule over all nations, yet your view of faith is that one is saved oneself and goes to heaven.
Becoming such a small-minded coward, would one call oneself the bride? It is a lack of common sense—a lack of common sense.
Jesus is the King of Kings, the Lord of all, the Crown Prince of God. He is the prince of God—the prince. You must realize this. Today, even being merely a president's son is something to boast about; how much more is he the Son of the Absolute Being, who can be the protagonist of history unprecedented or successor, the protagonist of the age, or even the protagonist of the future, who abides as the subject in the seat of glory, who abides alone. You must become his bride—his bride. Yet there is no nonsense like this.
The content of what Jesus tells you to believe is not for the sake of centering on you alone and sending the individual to the Kingdom of Heaven. To tell you to believe is a word of appeal made to the whole Cosmos.
You must realize that it was a Word that flowed out through the content of Jesus' ideal, which was steeped deep in the heart of the Cosmos. He longed for the elite soldiers of Heaven who, standing in such a state, would step forth to do battle against the world of death and the world of sin.
You must realize that those who stepped forth toward the Roman Empire as such representatives were the figure of the seventy disciples.
There is such a saying, is there not?
Believing in Jesus' Word of the Bible, knowing such content, and becoming a self of one character, you must, in your heart, hold a mind beyond that of mother and father, one that can bless even your enemies while shedding your blood for all people. To begin with, even if we criticize by common sense, we cannot but clarify such points of argument. Then have you seen such a person? Have you seen such a shepherd? Have you seen such a saint? Therein lies the problem.
For this reason, if there is a band that surely breaks through such a place, such a band will not perish. Even were this a hypothesis, if some sons and daughters went forth with such content, would Heaven punish them? It is so, in fact—in fact.
This is a time of gasping in longing for the Word, of gasping and growing weary in feeling the destitution of the Word.
Who is the one to awaken them?
Since the Last Days have come, the figure that comes seeking the weary multitude before the Last Days is the substance.
The time has come when there is a need for a single leader who knows how to release, in the Lord's stead, all that content grown weary, and who can set in order, in the Lord's stead, my weary environment.
When we look upon Christianity worldwide today, though the church buildings are large and the churchgoers many, it is no exaggeration to say that one cannot find even a few such people there.
What I wish to say before you is this: we Unification believers have already passed through all the steps that had to be passed through.
We are a band that has grasped its way forward with a standard by which we could know all such things—what the Presbyterian doctrine is, what the Methodist doctrine is, how the currents of New Testament thought come forth.
Now, what is needed here?
What is needed is something to make this place where I am weary surge up once again. This is the problem. When one grows weary and collapses from studying and studying with the Word, it is by the Word that one can once again attain confidence in the Word.
Unless a new movement that puts forward a movement to restore attachment to the Word appears upon the earth, where will this humanity, whose road forward has become blocked, go?
Having run forward and found it blocked, one must turn back and go—but where will one go?
We too, placed today at such a final extremity of death-agony…. You must realize that the time has come when there is need for a movement that can—for me, grown weary of the Word, weary of the life of faith, and weary of church life—raise feeling anew toward the wearied Word and the wearied faith, and raise attachment toward the Word, so that one can say, with a value better than anything until now, “Father, I have understood.”
In such a time of judgment, it has been said that judgment by the Word, judgment of character, and judgment of the heart break out in the Last Days.
To carry out judgment by the Word, unless God sets up a single Word that can raise the heart of the Word and raise attachment toward the Word, and so does it, then God is not God.
To carry out judgment of character, He must set up upon this earth some standard of judgment of character, and so do it. If He does it without that, that too is not God. To carry out judgment of the heart, He must set up that one standard by which the standard of the heart can be set in order.
If he does it without setting that up, everything is ruined. When we look upon the time and the season in this way, this time is the era of judgment. Do you understand? It is the era of judgment—the era of judgment.
Setting down what is clutched in my hand, you must ask, “Is what I now possess not the very thing the Father loved most?” It is a time when an answer must be received. I mean one must resolve it, even resolve to die, though it should come to dying by hanging by the neck. The age of saying “It will probably be so” has passed.
The Christian's Mission Is to Rightly Establish the Standard of the Heart of Heavenly Affection
Now is the time to reflect upon oneself, gasping to surge up once again in your mind and to go forth into something new. There, the thing one has loved most until now….
Seen from such a comprehensive perspective, in which the fortunes of heaven and earth come in matched to their measure, do I today hold attachment? Do I have such a thing that I can hold up and say, “O God, behold this”? I mean, do I have something for which I can say, “O Master, receive this”? It has all been lost. It may seem one has it, but it has all been lost.
For this reason, in the Last Days, there comes the era of the final settling of accounts. Because it is the era of the final judgment, one must turn one hundred and eighty degrees, in accordance with the angle centered on the Word.
Only when such a phenomenon breaks out does the nation live, or the Church live, or some new work break out. That is why I say it is the world's humanity placed in the era of judgment. Do your minds hold a foothold of attachment that can be boasted of to anyone? “Quickly, quickly, take me away.”
When going before the Lord, my son and daughter are precious, and this or that of mine is precious—but can one do so? I mean that the current of the times has become so.
Therefore, when such an age comes, there must come to be one region and one people that suffer, representing a people, a nation, and a world current of thought placed in such an environment, swept up nationally in such a current that they cannot but sever it, however they might wish not to.
That, seen worldwide today, is the Korean people—the Korean people. North and South have been cleanly divided, and parents, wives, and children have all been divided.
A rupture of the heart has come about. I mean that, through the June 25 War (6·25) in Korea today, an economic rupture has come about, a theoretical rupture, a policy rupture, and a religious rupture have come about. Yet we do not despair here.
We must understand that there is surely a Will of Heaven before this people by which it can rise once again. Even looking at history, a new history begins through a crisis of corruption.
Today, because of the corrupt politics of this regime's twelve years, the blood of the new young people boiled over. Having boiled up, the normal course would be for it to extend out from there into a new history.
But when we look at what was planted, what was sown, it has not become fertile soil onto which fertilizer was scattered—it is again just the same. I am not saying these things here with any desire of my own.
If some young men and women hold a mind that loves religion, loves God, loves humanity, and loves the world, then from where will they carry forward the blood that was shed at the time of the April 19 Revolution?
Hundreds of young people who prayed before Heaven bearing such a mind shed their blood, but hundreds of their parents grieve even more bitterly than you. Yet it is a time to seek where there is a band that, appealing in their hearts before the Father beyond those parents, sheds tears, saying, “Let the price of this blood, we pray, remain as the price of the lifeblood of this people, and as one pulse of the miraculous fidelity that Heaven can love, for the sake of the time of the order of heavenly ethics.”
Without that, these people cannot lift its head and come forth. Only by opening a new gate by which one can fulfill the mission, commanding advance and presenting a direction in this way, can one cut through this path and go forward.
Now there are bound to be young men and women who fight, clasping God around the neck. I say the young ones long for that. The band that has nowhere to go, that is weary and wanders, will surely, at some one hour, behold the beacon-fire of Unification; and should there be a day when they receive a new shock from the fire of the beacon, they must not hesitate there, but must present a directionality and seek that something of heart-content by which they can keep time together with the heavenly providence. How is this to be sought and established? It is not human-centered.
How is a standard of heart that can stand in the place of heavenly affection to be established?
This is the problem that Korean Christians must resolve today, and it is the responsibility to be borne by those who remain within the realms of the many ways—the so-called various denominations, sects, or those who revere the Way.
If you have come to know the place you must go, have come to know the position in which we are placed and our purpose, and have come to know that some value of ours has been weighed centering on Heaven, then you yourselves….
Here we must find new people who stand in the place of earth and Heaven, and proclaim a Word that wells up from the heart. Is that Word made into a Word that can judge the historical Word? That is what is needed. It must be so. It is not blind—not blind.
People of society today, when they speak of Teacher Moon of the Unification Church, regard him as nothing but a fool, an idiot, an incompetent (未及者). But that is not so. To walk such a path, I have shed more blood and sweat than anyone, have bent my head more than anyone, and have crossed several ridges of the battle that decides between life and death.
With what resolve about oneself, what conviction about oneself, and what practical proof about oneself can one face humanity, face the people, and face some nation and some thought, and have the confidence to fight? I have agonized without limit over such problems. And so I have come forward into this place bearing a signboard that draws abuse.
Only When One Possesses a Heavenly Conviction That Can Move God Does the Blessing Descend
You, all of you! If, here, there is a God who has woven this history of past, present, and future, and who has embraced and fought for it, then when we put to ourselves the question—centering on that God—of what the heart of God was that wove its way forward with the blood and sweat and tears of the past, what that heart was that put into practice the Will of God woven in this age with tears and sweat and blood, and what the heart of the future is, you must realize that, even if you cannot speak it, you have the responsibility to bear witness with every form you possess. God cannot bless one who has no conviction.
Heaven helps those who help themselves (自助者).
Though Jesus appeared in an unworthy body, though he became, with an anxious figure, the teacher of poor fishermen on the shore of Galilee—before any teacher of the law, before Pilate, before anyone….
In the heavenly conviction he held, he possessed a conviction that could move even the heart of God. Because that conviction was a conviction that humanity needs, it is an inevitable fact that, so long as the bond of the Word through that conviction remains, one must form a relationship with him until the purpose of that Word is brought to its end.
For this reason, Christianity has today developed into a worldwide religion. You must realize this. You must have a conviction by which you can fight before the people, a conviction by which you can cut through and go forward, however many opponents there may be in the world. All the more, Unification believers…. The one who speaks here does not need many people.
The age of cannon has passed. Now is the age of the atomic cannon. You must have such a conviction that, when you shed blood and sweat at your work and collapse midway, the whole district can burst forth.
Have you become ones who possess such confidence and such conviction?
Therein lies the problem.
From such a standpoint, holding a content of the Word that says, “This is the Father's Word, this is the truth the Father seeks, and without this the world cannot be saved,” and attaining conviction—since we have been told to face the created world and to have dominion over all things in the manner of a master—you must confidently have the conviction that you can carry out the exercise of dominion with dignity.
If there is a son and daughter who, with confidence and without violating the position in which they stand, stand in a place where heaven and earth can bow their heads to that value, and call out “Father” before Heaven, He does not say, “Hey, you rascal, you are a deluded one.”
As I see it, being driven and pursued is something to be grateful for. There is no precedent of the true thing drawing abuse and perishing. There is no precedent for its being struck and rooted out. This is something utterly small, yet from one it goes to two, and from two it spreads out.
Heaven does not begin big, but it does so without a word. It does it not by boasting, but without a sound. Only then will the Unification Church, in both name and reality….
Until now, the Unification Church has been the problem, but from now on, it is Christianity that is the problem. I am sorry to say it. The problem of Christianity grows great. Just wait and see.
However high one builds a brick wall, whatever one does, it must accord with reason. Truth is reason. It is reason—but it is not the reason of individual life. It is the reason for worldwide life, the reason for cosmic life. You must realize this. Truth is not truth merely because one interprets a single verse of the Bible well. I am saying, do not boast.
The reason for life by which one can live together with God—that which seems utterly ordinary yet is noble, that which seems utterly common yet holds an infinite value—that is universal truth.
Standing upon the standard of such truth, you yourselves must save the people and save the nation. You must become ones who can move Heaven, move the earth, and turn and take hold of the heart of God.
If only one becomes such a person, then even if the Lord goes to America, one can draw the Lord back. Even if God wishes to bless a nation like America, He cannot bless it. Why? Because the Kingdom of Heaven is seized by those who exert force. Just let there be a few such people.
When there is a great bundle of blessings in this world, one can lodge a claim for it. It is so, in fact. To one who believes, nothing is impossible.
If there is any person who, having attained the requisite conditions of the bride, holds a content of truth at which God can shed tears and by which everything in the heavens can be moved, then through that, the Lord can come.
Even if there were only three protagonists before this people—people who can do so, who grasp the Father's hand and call him “my Father” and go forward without hesitation, who restore the bond of parent and child between Father and child, who release all that was steeped in the historical sorrow and suffering and hardship of the past to seek the son lost over six thousand years, and who, calling the name of the Father, have experienced the bond of heart in the place where they can be called sons—even with only three such people, Christianity worldwide is resolved by them. That is what I believe. And that is what I know.
Unification Members Who Must Raise a Movement of Attachment to the Word and Awaken This People
I tell you, though there be countless Christians and countless seekers of the Way, the starting point that can bring resolution in the final problem of the spiritual world and the final human problem of the heart—none but the Unification Church can resolve it.
We must become those who, confident of this, step forward and call out, “Let us unify.” To come forth bearing this, we must pass through the process of judgment by the Word, and so in this Word I must be judged. To seek the Word, one goes even through such a crisis of death that one weeps tears of blood.
Even in praying to seek the Word, one must pray a prayer that yields to no one. Gritting one's teeth, actually lifting one's face and offering up everything…—such a prayer that absolutely will not do unless heavenly law acknowledges it….
If there are people who seek such a Word and live a true life of faith upon this earth, then one must cry out, “O brother whom I revere! How does that standard of heart stand?”; and one must hold such a content of the Word that, when I—holding this Word to be right—say “O God!”, God can teach me the answer, “Yes, my child.” If it is a truth that cannot be believed before our people, before you, then such a truth has already passed away. I say it passes away.
You who have entered the Unification Church today will have felt something. If you have felt something, re-examine it. I am saying, do not believe blindly. If you do not change here, you will have to make a journey around the world to that far end and come back again.
What I wish to say is just that. Only then can you give commands with firm resolve. In that sense, you who are here, because you have heard the Word….
For me, who speaks here today, when we compare the invisible world and the visible world for the sake of passing through the process of judgment by the Word, it is because some victory was settled in the invisible world that one passes through this standard in the visible world.
Since spiritual completion and physical completion, the completion of the formless world and the completion of the earthly world must be effected; here, countless enemies all appear.
For this reason, we must pray. I long to hear such a sound—the 2.4 billion of humanity appearing and declaring that they will fall upon the Unification Church.
From such a perspective, when you appear before that form which has appeared in the place of heavenly affection, bearing that content of yielding to no one—” I alone, we alone will go before the Father”—the countless multitudes who do not possess that bond cannot but be moved. I say they cannot but be moved. All the spiritual content by which they can be moved is in place.
That is why it is called the spiritual (신령). It is the Christian Unification spirit (기독교통일신령).
Some people, when they hear “spirit,” think “spirit” means some scene of sorcery, but it is not that. Through reasoned content….
In this way you, together with the Word…. After that comes the era of passing through substance. This person who speaks here, too, has fought all forty years of his life until now.
I am one who, in the very moment of my collapsing, is anxious lest there remain a feeling of lingering regret over what I might yet do, having poured out all my passion before the Father.
If I had, by any means or method, held some desire of my own single self in this work, I would receive Heaven's punishment. Had it become so, I would already have perished.
From the time of Japanese rule, over a historical course of decades, I have carried on this kind of play. Everywhere I went, I lived in prison. Everywhere I went, I was mocked. Yet I have no enemy.
Why must it be so?
Because once the order of heavenly ethics has passed through the process of the era of passing through the Word, it cannot but pass through the process of passing through substance. The way of Jesus' cross remains, and the standard of grievance that was left behind a han upon this earth remains. Think of it. It was said that the blood of Abel cries out—but do you suppose that the prince of God, who is the King of Kings, will only shed tears and bleed and cry out upon this earth? Do you suppose he will not? I say the tears of blood of Jesus cry out.
Where is the appeal of these tears of blood to be paid in indemnity?
It means that the saints today, and this Christianity until now, have been appealing and paying indemnity through a war of blood to connect the true blood of Christianity. To do so, when one takes up and enters into all these problems, one cannot but walk the way of the cross that has been left behind.
Currently, this place where I am speaking here may, as you look at it, seem a good place; but even should one go out from this place at once and become a prisoner, there must be no psychological wavering over it. You must go forth with such conviction.
Today, we have the tragic fate that, upon this stage of reality, we cannot but resolve the satanic world. We cannot but resolve this. You must realize that, for the Unification Church to come forth attaining such a form today, it has shed boundless tears. In a single fact, there is blood and sweat.
We have not moved for the sake of God until now, with some leftovers of what we had and used. We came forth not eating, starving and pursued, naked and trembling. I say that today, with such a form, we have appeared bearing the condition that presents the problem of the people.
Even in such circumstances, I have kept silent. It cannot always be so.
Since such a time has come, in a new culture, through my truth, we must raise interest before these people, in whom the intellectuals today have lost interest, and we must unfold a movement that can raise attachment. Putting this into practice, the time has come when we cannot but encourage this band that has lost attachment to the nation, or attachment to our ideal world.
If that cannot be done, we must go forth, ablaze with a national mission by which—even by offering up a rite—we cannot but awaken them and turn them back into a people that Heaven can embrace.
For you to be able to appear, through the Word, as ones who bear a Word that can judge the established truth of the past, you must first have conviction.
Once you have conviction, when you collide head-on with the enemies who have betrayed, bearing that substantial body, you must attain the ability to admonish them openly and with assurance in a free and peaceful environment.
And should they disbelieve even that, you cannot but have a conviction by which, to prove the true and the false, you can scatter your blood and show it as a sacrifice before Heaven. Now the Unification believers must attain that. You must understand this.
We Must Grasp the Heart of God Through Experience and Inherit the Legacy of God
You must become the master of a Word that can move life, a love that can move the substance of life, and a heart that can give rest to the ground of a mind gasping in life.
If, as such a band, with Heaven as your background, upon the ground of the historical past, the present, and the hope of the future, you become a band that can run from a clear starting point all the way to the purpose, toward an unchanging principled course, you will never perish. From such a standpoint, you cannot but go forth.
For this reason, this time is the time of judgment of truth, the time of judgment of character, and the time of judgment of the heart. Considered an external phenomenon, when reflected against the providential conditions, it has become so.
Now, when you take up this Word and go forth to fight, when you cry out this Word—if you go forth for the sake of this Word with a swelling heart that can give thanks before Heaven, feeling the heart of the Word, and the grievous spectacle of the hidden twists and turns up to the time this Word—of which I speak here, or of which we speak—came forth, then everywhere you go, Heaven is with you. It is without fail. Heaven is with you.
Everywhere you go bearing this Word, a revolution arises in the buried mind. I say there is the confidence to attain, from a revolution of conscience, a revolution of the heart. Because the one who speaks here today is confident of that….
And again, when we look at our fallen descendants…. We possess a fallen nature. What are the four conditions of fallen nature?
They are pride and envy and hot temper and falsehood. Pride, jealousy, hot temper, falsehood—this is fallen nature. You, too, must strip these off. To strip these off is why, until now, we fast and make a great commotion.
To strip these off, how must one act in the era of judgment of the course of the Restoration?
I must arm myself with the Word and become the substance of the Word. To pass through the process of substance, one must inevitably strip off the fallen nature of the original nature. Here, the four conditions remain, and so, to strip these off, one must receive persecution and receive trials. It is on such a course that you have remained until now.
When we look from such a place, it is there that one comes, for the first time, to feel that the Father has done such toil to save us today. And so, for the first time, in that place, one grasps the heart through experience. By reading the Bible, one can never know it.
In prayer, one can experience it in any measure. There must be a heart that can sink into that place—a heart that can call out “Father” substantially, that can call out “Father” before one's enemies in the midst of everyday feeling. On the course of fighting while receiving much persecution, at this stage of practice, you must do well.
Therefore, you cannot but go forth and fight. You must realize that, to save this one me, He has fought in this way until now. Since He has fought in this way—since I have come to know that God toiled for six thousand years to seek this one me—as the me who has now been found, or as one who stands in the place of truth, I must become one who can cross over the standard of judgment.
It is not that today, centering on my individual self, the Will of God has been completely concluded. Beyond me there remain the people; beyond me there remains the world; beyond me there remains the universe.
Since I have come to know this, now Heaven cannot but think that it must, beyond me, shed blood and sweat, shed tears, and cross over the ridge of death.
After grasping through experience the heart by which one can become Father and son and daughter, one must become a filial son before the Father.
To become a son and daughter, what must one first do?
One must become one who inherits the Father's legacy and one who shepherds the Father's children. So it must be.
Though, in my individual self, on the vertical plane, Heaven and I have formed the bond of parent and child in the vertical relationship of my individual self, for me, it must become one in the vertical relationship.
Let us say that, centering on the brotherly relationship, it has extended out until now through the people. Yet now, for us, since we have resolved the vertical problem and have come to know that there remains the brotherly course on the horizontal problem—the single toil of seeking the brothers—today we here feel the responsibility to become true filial sons, loyal subjects, and women of fidelity.
Therefore, we must inherit the Father's legacy. And in inheriting the legacy, what legacy? We must inherit the legacy by which we cannot but save the brothers.
In saving these brothers, you must realize that there remains a land that Heaven must cross over, that there remains a ridge of tears that Heaven must cross over, and that there remains a ridge of death that Heaven must cut through and pass.
We Must Go Forth to the Place of Injustice, Indignation, and Solitude to Receive the Inheritance
I believe that you of the Unification Church, who went out over these forty days to evangelize and to fight and have now returned, will have grasped through experience the heart of the individual. And I believe that this forty-day period was a period in which you grasped through experience what the heart of the Father is like—the Father who, until now, has toiled in this way to seek this one me, and who, heedless of the way of tears, the way of shedding blood and sweat, and the way of death, came over the long span of six thousand years, as though it were a single day, to save this unworthy body; or a period in which, in a place of persecution, in a place of hunger, in an endlessly forlorn place where no one acknowledged you, you grasped through experience a heart steeped in such feeling—clutching the roots of the grass and gazing at the mountains and streams, together with the passing wind, picturing the figure of the Father, and bowing your head before the Father's heart, calling out “Father” and shedding tears.
Then does it end with that? We have come to know many things we did not know until now. The words “heart, heart” that were cried out have gotten through, and you have come to know what the heart is; and you will have understood well what those words that were cried out—” Word, Word,” “substance, substance”—were.
And so, in the matter of the heart, once again acknowledged as true sons and daughters before the Father's Will, and having made a new resolve, what is to be done here?
If we are to be regarded as ones who now stand in the position of saying, “as the Father's son, I have stood; therefore, O Father, bless me,” and of having to receive the Blessing, then what will you yourselves receive as the Blessing? You must inherit the Father's great work.
To do so, what must you yourselves do?
It is not to inherit the joy and glory within God, in the midst of God. You must first inherit the sorrow and suffering and injustice within God. Where is there a filial son or a woman of fidelity? Anyone at all can be a filial son in times of joy.
One must become a son and daughter who can be a filial child in times of injustice, indignation, solitude, and sorrow. To do so, one must know the sorrow within the Father's breast, beyond the sorrow of God, and shed tears of blood.
You must have such a conviction: “If, within one year, I can come to the point of not dying while spitting blood and can pay indemnity all at once for what You toiled over for six thousand years, then send me.”
We now have the responsibility to go forth once again for the sake of the battle of righteousness. This one who stands before you, sending down such words to encourage you, has an aching heart as well.
On this circuit course, the heart of the teacher here, watching the little ones shedding blood and sweat, driven out from village to village, placed in grievous circumstances and sobbing with falling tears, is in pain.
I wailed in my heart. I said, “O God! If this path is false, if it is a mistaken path, if it came forth from something of my will, then I know that I will receive Heaven's punishment at once.” Heaven's punishment is received.
Knowing that there is a mission that cannot but be walked, however much I would not walk it, that cannot but be gone to even if I must die—and so long as I know that the grievous condition of the people and the hidden touch of God's toil for this people remain—there is a Will that must be walked. Anyone who had some comparative perspective and intelligence would not have wished to walk such a path.
Yet when I came to look upon the circumstances and twists and turns that remained, which could not but be gone to, each time I fell with tears welling up, Heaven counseled me; and when I came to be in such a place of being driven and pursued, Heaven, with a love that embraces, made me pledge with a responsible conviction that there is nowhere to go but here.
Each time I remember this path, I know that you would drop tears everywhere you went. I knew that you would shed sweat everywhere you went. As I sent you out, what I prayed before Heaven was this: “O Father, if there are tears these have shed for the sake of the true Will of Heaven, if there is sweat they have shed—since it was said that the blood of Abel laments and appeals in the place of the Cosmos to establish the goal of goodness—then I know that the day will surely come when the sweat of these and the tears of these will appeal before this people and this age.” Resolving thus in my heart any number of times, I sent you out.
The sweat shed with all sincerity and devotion does not vanish. The tears shed, grieving in heart and loving the people and loving the Will, are not in vain. Because I knew that, each time one laments, “This life is forfeit, this is the final cliff, this is the blocked gate,” Heaven opened the way to be walked, I drove you into such a place.
We have nothing. We have no money. We have no power. We have no friends in the world. Parents oppose us, relatives oppose us, brothers oppose us, established churchgoers block and oppose us—it is a place where everything has been lost.
Since we have entirely severed our bonds to the world and our attachment to the world, when we come at last to ponder this single fortune of the age, in which the fortune of Heaven can appear at the same time, I give thanks that the Father has considered and raised us in a fitting form, and I hope that, each time you stand in such a place, you will not become ones who collapse and despair.
Unification Members Who Must Walk the Path of Sacrifice for the Sake of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity
Wherever you have left a trace with the living Word, with the living substance, with the living heart—if the people of the earth oppose you today, you must feel the responsibility to mobilize the whole spiritual world and surely accomplish it. I know that, on the condition of the tears you shed, on the condition of the drops of sweat, an indemnifying battle-history of goodness will break out.
Even if human beings oppose you, the countless souls of the spiritual world, the countless good spirits who have appeared in God's stead, are on the side of the Unification Church. If you cannot believe it, then try praying.
Each time you shed tears in this way, the Father, hearing these words, guards your side in your hardship and counsels those who do not know to come to believe; and each time you hesitate, alone, to pioneer your environment in a solitary, driven place, God raises a protector and guards your environment—this I know.
With such living, substantial experience, you must go forth with a new resolve and a new determination surging up here. Until now, you have stepped forth for the sake of the Church, but from now on, the time has come to step forth for the sake of the people and for the sake of the world.
Until now, the Unification Church came forth bearing the signboard of a single denomination standing in the place of Christianity, beneath the foundation of a churchly truth. Yet, to save these people today, the band that does it can be none but us.
We must walk through and out by the way of life of these people, appear at once as victorious princes, and complete a figure that can be boasted of before heaven and earth. To do so, I have come to know that there must be many tears here. I came to know that there must be much sweat, and there must be much sacrifice.
The time has come when, with a starved body as the ground, clasping a starved hand, we cannot but raise high a hand of new resolve and pledge and step forth before the Father.
Now, in going forth, we must carry out the mission of inheriting the Father's legacy and, to release the eternal grievance, of saving the brothers. Because we have now come to know such a mission, you must look with clear eyes. Because we have now come to know such a mission, you must look with clear eyes.
You must look the face squarely, and you must look the heart steeped in feeling squarely. Toward whom? Toward God. The point of resolution to the problem lies here.
Each time you visited, holding evangelizing leaflets in the dog days of midsummer, you left shedding sweat. Or, driven by circumstance, you lived shedding tears, standing in a place of starvation. I am grateful for that. I say I am grateful.
For me, there was nothing—no parent, no friend, no teacher, no environmental life of my own—only a solitary heart. Utterly alone, God and I…. In a place where, before heaven and earth, like a forlorn wasteland, I composed my heart alone and called out “Father” and shed tears, the wind that came flowing in was my friend.
The sunlight of the eastern dawn rising was the friend of my heart, the earth lying forlorn was my friend, and the nature in view was my friend.
If you have felt this, I believe that here you can discover a new self, and that you will once again take up a resolve in which a new value and a new bond throb.
To take up this resolve and to release this grievance, one must not bow down and pray only as one's single self; rather, one must inevitably clasp this people and—though one offer up one's whole clan—clasp Heaven and shed tears and sweat and blood. I believe you will have made such a new resolve.
Now, when there is a final, all-reckoning condition of Heaven, it is not some condition of a Bible verse. Through this Word, having inherited God's legacy, have you become a master of the heart who can once again shed tears in the place of the brothers and in the place of eternity?
Have you become a person of character of such heart that does not mind shedding sweat for a whole lifetime?
If not that, have you become that one figure of the heart that says it will go even should it come to shedding my blood and becoming a sacrifice? You must become such a me.
When the believers of the Unification Church lay their hands upon their breast and feel the throbbing pulse that resounds and beats, knowing that this blood will be severed on some day, at some hour, then when it comes to the question of for whom this is severed—if it is severed for my own sake, it becomes an eternal grievance.
If, on the day it is severed, this blood and this pulse are for the sake of humanity, Heaven, and earth, then here, even should you struggle and flail, declaring you will go to hell, you will naturally go to the Kingdom of Heaven. This is the goal of the life that Unification believers must walk. This is the goal of life!
At whatever time, I must go forth to a place of working, taking up a hoe or taking up a hammer, shedding blood and shedding sweat. There, together with the Father, I must shed tears and shed sweat. What I do is not for my own sake.
If there is a place where one grieves and sheds tears together with humanity because the great work of the Cosmos has not been accomplished, where one sheds tears distressed together with Heaven because no result has come forth, then if there comes to be, before this people, even one person in each village—a band that holds the resolve to scatter blood together with the Father, together with humanity, together with history, and bring this work to its conclusion—it will not perish. Those who do not wish to join here may go.
The one who speaks here does not speak these words from a place of ease. Since I am so, you too must be so. Because I have lived in this way and am fighting in this way, you too must be so.
Let us wind the fortune of all the life of the universe into our embrace, grip it in our hands, and not let go. On the day we take such a heart into our embrace and then let go, heaven and earth perish. Let us not let go. Even should the back of my hand be severed, let us not let go. Let us not become a band that loses.
Become the Protagonist of Heart Who Walks the Path of Blood, Sweat, and Tears
From such a perspective, now return to yourselves and reflect. Reflect upon from what standpoint Heaven has guided your individual self. Consider toward what goal it guided you from within your heart.
For more than a year and six months, or nearly two years, you have cried out about the problem of the heart. Because I knew that the time had come to present truth and character and heart all at once as a condition of accusation before God, and because I knew that, to bring this one standard to a complete conclusion, one cannot but expend blood and sweat and tears to the full, this time I prepared a certain condition of number that can stand in the place of the measure of heaven and earth, and sent you out before all people.
From now on, as you go out and embrace such a conviction, bearing in your breast the standard of an original family that can stand in the place of the great dispensation of heaven and earth, as you go forth and fight, everywhere you go, the providence changes enormously.
If it cannot be done by people, the spiritual world moves for you. You will have borne much witness to this time. There are many rare things. You will have come upon many rare tidings.
When, centering on one's own single self—worth less than a worm—one holds fast to that reasoned heart and goes forth, and sees that this moves, through Heaven, beyond one's own environment, what an awe-inspiring fact this is.
And so, since you have returned in this way, from now on, you must complete and resolve the arming of the heart, the arming of the Word, and the standard of character. At such a time, you must hold a certain authority of inheritance before Heaven and have the conviction that, if you believe and bless, it becomes as you have blessed.
Having stood before such a standard, standing in the place of the heart of sons and daughters, and having stepped forth, in the place of God's greatness, against the satanic world—let us resolve it.
When you enter a certain village, we must not be outdone by those who toil for that village. Upon entering that village, we must not be outdone. In what? Not in fighting. We must not be outdone in shedding sweat and shedding tears. Going further, we must not be outdone in sacrificing.
For this reason, we must hold an even more severe resolve, not eating. You must sacrifice. And so you must realize that, from now on, for three years, you cannot but go forth in total unity.
The last thing I would say is this: why are blood and tears and sweat needed?
History has fought its way forward with these. The history of humanity has been woven by shedding the sweat of goodness, or through tears, through blood.
Yet until now Christianity has cried out blood, and crying out tears, has cried “Repent.” Centering on the blood of Jesus, it has gone forth shedding tears; but to add to this, sweat must be added. Sweat must be added.
This time, since a great many people have established churches in 210 places, we must take responsibility for them. Now there is such a foothold, and we are placed in a position where we cannot but go forth so. Look at yourselves now. Both seen historically and seen in terms of the Will, we stand in such a position. Then what shall our blood do here? It must become the glory of God. Your blood is God's.
God is demanding the price of our blood. Humanity is demanding the price of tears, and the earth is demanding the price of sweat. Why is this? Countless people have come to this earth and shed much sweat in the evil world. This humanity has, until now, shed many evil tears. They have shed much evil blood.
For this reason, by the principle of indemnity, this earth cannot but be washed with the sweat of us, the good people. This humanity today cannot but be washed through the tears of good people. We cannot but repay it before God with our blood.
From now on, the living creed of the Unification Church must be this: my blood for the sake of Heaven, my tears for the sake of humanity, my sweat for the sake of the earth. You must realize that, by setting up such a foothold of heart—embracing it with such an everyday feeling and saying, “O Father!
Since I am a son, it was thus; and since You are the Father, it was thus,” that, because there is such a bond of parent and child, one cannot but be so—all things are brought to their conclusion.
You must clearly realize that it is your duty and responsibility of you who go forth to fight, from now on, to set up the tears of the heart, the sweat of the heart, and the blood of the heart everywhere you go. Do you understand? “Yes.”
Why must it be so? As I made my circuit through every part of South Korea, I felt it all the more keenly. The people of the towns one comes and goes through, village by village, are worn out to the utmost. They have been deceived many times. They have been deceived by hypocrites, deceived by those with fists, deceived by religious people—deceived by all. They are now left with only gaunt bones and flesh and have lost all sensation. You must realize that, to stake your neck on the problem of the land and save these people, you must go forth bearing something.
We must go forth bearing the truth before this band that has been deceived. Now it must be practice rather than words. Before words, one must become a possessor of a breast that, with a heart steeped in feeling, can shed tears and clasp them and shed tears, saying, “O brother,” “O fellow countryman.”
When one comes to know that these people have become so grievous, that these people have nowhere to lean, one cannot but become a protagonist of the heart who knows how to wail over being unable to hold up one's own body.
Clasping these people—because I keenly felt that this is a time when the road that was walked is being blocked, one cannot but open at least a road by which one can turn back and return—you must realize the anguish with which I, as a teacher, am speaking before you words that are difficult to speak and difficult to emphasize.
If there is a glory that Heaven possesses, I do not desire it. For your sake….
If you go forth and fight, then on every course of fighting, those tears will be the Father's tears, that sweat will be the Father's sweat; and when you are hungry, you will appeal while wringing out your blood by fasting. Upon such a figure, Heaven works.
The body of our true comrade is lowly. Therefore, as you of the Unification Church know, I have not until now demanded material things. I have not demanded people.
I sought the one who, clasping the starving one, would comfort him; I sought a place where, clasping the pitiful one, one could take joy together with him. (The remainder could not be recorded due to poor recording conditions.) Let Us Have an Attachment That Heaven Shares
