April 17, 1960 (Sunday), midway up the hill behind Samcheong Park, Seoul.
Today is the day on which we commemorate Jesus' resurrection from the tomb 2,000 years ago.
The purpose of God's providence of restoration is to accomplish resurrection, and within the realm of that purpose of resurrection, the entire created world is included. That is to say, from heaven above to the earth and humanity below, there is nothing that does not fall within this realm.
If human beings had not fallen, the noun “resurrection” would not exist. A true human being ought to feel that he is unworthy to face heaven and earth.
The path of resurrection is the path that everyone — anyone of fallen humanity—must walk. The point at which resurrection is settled is not in the throne of Heaven, nor in the spirit world, nor in any master of the Way, nor in any scripture. Nor is it in today's Christianity itself.
God's providence is the providence of restoration. Because we, as humanity, owing to the Fall, did not fulfill the purpose of creation, we must be recreated through the process of resurrection.
We who are gathered here today must long for the day of resurrection. Through the earth, we must resurrect Heaven (the spirit world). We think the base of resurrection is in the heavens, but it is not. It is this earth. This earth is the center.
The base of resurrection and the point at which it is settled are on this earth.
Unless resurrection is accomplished on this earth, the resurrection of the heavens, the resurrection of human beings, the resurrection of all things, and the resurrection of the human beings in hell all amount to nothing more than nouns.
Therefore, individuals who have first been resurrected on the earth must come forth.
In the spirit world, there is hell, the intermediate spirit world, Paradise, and the Kingdom of Heaven; until now, all those who were faithful before Heaven have gone to Paradise. Jesus, too, is in Paradise.
In accomplishing the purpose of resurrection, the indirect destination is the spirit world, while the direct destination is the earth.
The spirit world is the place to be resurrected; the earth is the place where one must be resurrected. Therefore, only when one can first say on the earth, “I have been resurrected. I have brought the purpose of resurrection to its conclusion," can one go to the heavenly Kingdom of Heaven.
If such a person appears on the earth, all things on the earth cannot help but be moved. The countless prophets and saints have also longed for the day of taking part in the First Resurrection as their hope, and that day is precisely the day on which the purpose of resurrection is fulfilled.
The heavens are the place where life is conducted, gathering what is on the earth. Hereafter, centering on how the gathering shall be done?
Centering on Jesus' personhood, the world must be gathered. When that comes about, the age of gathering by Jesus' words also passes, and the age of saying “Sacrifice, serve” also passes.
Actions in the fallen world ultimately leave behind suffering and sorrow; we must pass beyond this and bring about on the earth a world in which, together with Jesus, we sing the heart of love freely. To bring the holy work of resurrection to its victorious conclusion on earth, we must first inherit and put into practice the heart of Jesus, thereby liberating God. We must pass through the heart in which God — the source of happiness, hope, freedom, and ideal — can rejoice.
Christians until now have believed while looking upon the Lord on the cross. They have thought of him to the point of weariness. By having Jesus nailed to the cross, they added to God a heart of pain and indignation.
Jesus, while shaping wood in Joseph's family, was purer and more hopeful than Jesus was while suffering on the cross. Therefore, in the cross, there are entwined the twists and turns of tragedy.
We have thought that the Lord suffering on the cross was the entire purpose for which the Lord came, but how good would it have been if Jesus had become one who, without suffering, fulfilled his filial devotion before Heaven?
Jesus' pure preaching of the Gospel had a good beginning.
If they had received such a Jesus, the rebukes that Jesus delivered, recorded in the Bible, would not exist. If there had been the movement of an individual or a group saying, “Master, do not so rebuke me when You see me,” it would not be like this today.
We thought that the Lord wearing the crown of thorns, the Lord pierced by the spear, and shedding blood was the entirety of the Lord. Yet if we had believed one hundred percent in the Jesus who did not suffer the agony of the cross, how much more precious would that have been than believing in the Jesus who suffered the agony of the cross?
Heaven required precisely that. But everywhere Jesus went, there were Satan's arrows, and places torn by despair came into being. The pain God endured until Jesus' resurrection was far greater than the pain of Jesus. We must know this.
Today, He requires of us also a pure heart of resurrection. Father wishes to meet a figure not pierced at all. But upon us, who were born of Satan, are the marks of being pierced by Satan's arrows; therefore, Father, who must look upon them, is steeped in resentment and pain.
We Who Must Open the Gate of Heart
Therefore, we must yearn for and sing of the figure of an undying Jesus and so welcome Easter. Jesus is more pleased to see this. History also looks for it. Heaven says, “Endure. Endure and sacrifice.
Even if your body is torn and even if you die, do not allow the world of the heart to be wounded; do not leave a blemish upon it.”
Although it sounds paradoxical, because Heaven has come forth desiring an existence whose mind and body have not been encroached upon by Satan, whether young or old, at any moment, that mind must not be wounded. He desires that it be always lovely, precious, bright, and pure.
The prophets and saints until now have grieved boundlessly in body and mind. Yet there has not yet been one who has grieved at the level of the heart. The grief of the world of the heart is still an unexplored field.
We have been called the vanguard that must pioneer this field. Therefore, we must cross over three gates: the appeal of the body, the urging of the mind, and the urging of the heart.
You have been called by Heaven as the historical vanguard who can turn back history. This is not a matter of words alone. Only when the gate of the heart is opened does the Bridegroom appear, and only then can God too come and go freely. Therefore, the first thing is the heart, and the second thing is also the heart.
We must, certainly, pass through the gate of the heart. Without setting up the condition of having passed through the gate of the heart, one cannot be resurrected.
Even Jesus did not enter the Kingdom of Heaven because he could not resolve the matter of the heart. Therefore, the first is heart, and the thousandth and ten-thousandth are also heart. Only when the gate of the heart is opened does the gate of the Kingdom of Heaven open.
On the day the gate of the Kingdom of Heaven opens, only one whose body, mind, and heart are unwounded can enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The one who, with body, mind, and heart unwounded, takes the place of the work that Jesus must do is Jesus' brother. He may call Jesus his older brother. This is the privilege of privileges.
The history of the past was a history of struggles to seize external land and material things. But now is the age of seizing the internal people and ideologies.
Because this internal struggle has not yet been resolved, the gate of the Kingdom of Heaven is shut tight. Only when something complete comes forth will this struggle be resolved and the gate of the Kingdom of Heaven open.
That is precisely the opening of the heart. Therefore, heaven and earth as a whole must enact a free opening in the field of the heart. Heaven and earth, even at this hour, are lamenting to form bonds of heart.
God created all phenomena with bonds of the heart. That is why, even in a single blade of grass, the heart is connected. Yet because human beings fell, that bond was severed.
If there were one who could connect the bond of heart in the heavens with the bond of heart on the earth, that one could resolve anything in heaven and on earth.
History is a history of recreation. The history of recreation exists to find one person. That is why, until now, wars have been waged centered on material things—to seize the land that corresponds to the body of the human person—and wars have been waged centered on ideology to seize the mind that corresponds to space.
From now on, wars will be waged centered on the heart — to seize the heart that corresponds to the spirit world. We are placed under the historical task of opening up our hearts and seeking Heaven.
You who have gathered here under the name of family members have gathered to complete resurrection; have you been liberated from the struggle for seizing the body? Have you been liberated from the struggle for seizing thought?
If not, you have not been resurrected. For you to be resurrected, you must prepare the substance of resurrection.
If you pass through the bodily resurrection and bring about the resurrection of the mind, you come to be furnished with the beauty of value as it was before the Fall, that is, in the very beginning. When this is accomplished on the earth, the heavens, the earth, and all things are resolved.
If, in facing the center of Heaven, there is no sense of a force pulling in every direction, front and back, exploding within you, then heart-level resurrection has not yet taken place.
Even when one is in any kind of suffering, if there is not a stronger impact of the heart that can surpass that suffering, one cannot take part in the First Resurrection.
One must have a strong working of the heart by which mind and body feel heaven and earth, time and space all at once, by which something new explodes, and by which one can pass over even the suffering of the bottommost hell — only then can one take part in the First Resurrection.
The Main Purpose of the Course of Restoration—The Resurrection of Body, Mind, and Heart
The main purpose of the course of restoration that we face today is to meet the Lord of the Second Advent.
The mission of the Lord of the Second Advent is to restore the heart that was lost through the Fall. Therefore, facing the One who comes to take possession of the heart, we must certainly raise a great work of resurrection.
The very One who comes to connect God's heart directly to the earth is the Lord of the Second Advent. He comes seeking those who live on the earth. We who have gathered here are the multitude that has been chosen out of countless humanity.
In the spirit world, there are countless spirit people. There is not a single existing thing that was made apart from the bond of God's heart.
Therefore, God seeks to save not only this earth but also the hundreds of millions of spirit people in the heavens. Centering on us, He seeks to move the world. Therefore, we must know God's heart, who seeks to bring about restoration.
Because Adam and Eve, whom God created with all His devotion, fell, their hearts died. To resurrect this heart, 6,000 years have passed until now. Since the son and daughter to whom He intended to entrust heaven and earth died, must they not be brought back to life?
God awaits the day when His dead children come back to life. It is God's Will to seek and establish a complete Adam and Eve, furnished with the standard of heart, and through them to restore the entire world all at once.
Now the entire world must establish one unified ideal. All the materials are prepared, so we have only to labor. We have only to move our bodies. In a free environment, we have only to run errands as we are bidden, like the angels at the time of creation.
We have only to offer up everything we possess. Thus, first the body must be resurrected, second the mind must be resurrected, and third the heart must be resurrected.
To be resurrected as God's son, even though one's body be torn and torn again, one must not fall but must establish the standard of victory and form a bond of heart with God. There may be many who can say, “God! Vertical history was thus until now; therefore, I will do thus horizontally.” But there are not many who can play the role of the wrapping cloth that holds God's heart.
While we live in the world, there are many times when we go where Heaven does not desire. Even passing through such roads, we must advance to the gate of the heart. Even seeing a single blade of grass, even seeing a single bird in flight, the heart must explode—only then can one enter the stage of completing resurrection.
Whether walking on the road, eating a meal, or doing whatever it may be, there must be a heart that goes ahead of it. Heaven desires this, but because we are not so, He grieves.
If there is something felt in the heart, lay hold of it firmly and gaze upon it. If the heart is so strong that one cannot let go even when told to let go, one can move toward the Kingdom of Heaven. With such a person, there is no problem.
If your heart is stronger than the teacher's, wherever you go is well. The moment you open your eyes, you must think of the providence of restoration; you must become people of value who seek and establish the purpose of Heaven in actual reality and strive to bring about the day of resurrection. The teacher, too, thinks of nothing else the moment he opens his eyes.
On this Easter today, our hearts are the issue. As Heaven desires, we must become people who give forth a flavor of value in the present reality.
Until now, there has been no one in heaven or on earth who has brought resurrection to its conclusion; that resurrection should now be accomplished from this peninsula where these pitiful people live is something for which we must bow our heads in thanks.
If there is one who has fulfilled this standard, he cannot be exchanged, though one offers untold sums of money. He seems to have lost everything yet possesses everything. He is the son and daughter who, before the Father who comes holding the leadership of the heart, return to Him joy, happiness, and delight. Therefore, we must be grafted into his heart.
God is our Father, and the Lord is our Bridegroom. Heaven has made known to us yearning, God-ism, and loyalty.
Now, with the heart of parent and child, the heart of husband and wife, the heart of sovereign and subject, we must bring about the unification of ideology.
Beneath the name of that Father, there is nothing that cannot be forgiven, and no twisting of the heart can take place. Beneath the name of the Bridegroom, there is nothing that cannot be yielded.
Loyally serving under one king, one cannot help but become one. This is the conclusion of the resurrection of the heart.
For 40 years of life, I longed to speak such words even once, and today I have spoken them this way; therefore, I hope that you who hear this consider it an immeasurable glory and bear it in mind.
The Path of Resurrection That Everyone Must Walk
For 40 years of life, I longed to speak such words even once, and today I have spoken them this way; therefore, I hope that you who hear this consider it an immeasurable glory and bear it in mind.
