The Original Human Being Wishes to Stand Before Heaven
That each of you, that your one life, is precious—this is acknowledged by oneself and others alike. To be a little more comfortable, to become a little more excellent and stand in the place of the nation, and further to stand in the place of the world, and further still to wish to stand before Heaven—this is the original human being as he was created. Even though we have fallen, there is no doubt that your hearts, even in this hour, are pursuing something ever higher and higher.
You hope tomorrow will be better than today, and the next day better than tomorrow; a year later, ten years later—the more your thinking broadens, the more, proportionally that scope, your desire grows ever greater, until you wish to stand before the world. This is the same heart in everyone.
Then is such a heart something mistaken?
No, it is not. Why? Because, from the very beginning, when we ask whom the human being was made to love, he was made not merely to face the parents who gave him birth, but, going beyond his parents, to stand as a representative of his people where there are many peoples; and, going further, at the same time to stand representing the world; and going further, representing the spiritual world (영계); and going further still, because he was made to be a being of infinite value who must appear before God, the great Sovereign who created heaven and earth.
Today, such a value beyond compare—a value that cannot be exchanged even for heaven and earth—is a value that even God respects.
However wondrous the archangel in heaven may be, or however many beings of the spiritual world there may be, were such a form to appear, it would be a value before which anyone would wish to bow his head and offer praise. That being of value was to have become the perfected Adam who, without falling, received the love of God.
Such a human being, because of the Fall, failed to complete his original purpose and fell utterly.
To what degree did he fall?
He fell to a degree that could not be set right. You know well that when, within the sphere of a single day’s life, one of our plans or one of the tasks we were doing goes wrong, we may set it right that same day; and if not that day, then the next; if not the next day, then in a few days; if not in a few days, then in a few months; if not in a few months, then in a year. By making a meticulous plan and acting upon it, we can shorten the time needed to complete that task.
Yet today, after the first human ancestors fell, God in His great power has labored for six thousand years to set right His own fallen children, and still the Fall was so great that He has not been able to set it right to a complete standard.
The human being tumbled down from the highest height of heaven to the lowest depth of hell. He became a worthless human being whose value could nowhere be cultivated or harvested.
To lead such a human being back to being a being of the highest value, Heaven has labored until now; and that course of providence is the Providence of Restoration, the Providence of Salvation, the work of re-creation—as you have learned and know from the Principle.
Therefore, history, from the ages of our many ancestors until now, has mobilized all our structures to accomplish one purpose, toward the value of the highest human being.
You must understand that every organized institution and every entity of whatever form moving in this society is being mobilized, day and night, toward the achievement of that purpose.
Therefore, such a movement, as heavenly fortune, as the Way of Heaven, or as the heavenly order (천륜), is sweeping over the fallen world in which we live today.
This sweeping, moving force seeks, before you are even aware of it, to draw you in the direction your heart brushes past. You have such a heart within you.
What is that heart?
No one can deny that there is within you a heart that wishes to become better tomorrow than today, the next day better than tomorrow, and better still the day after.
For this reason, you must never think lightly of your own lacking self today. As I have just told you, if you yourselves have a heart that seeks and longs for a tomorrow more valuable than today, then—whether you are gifted or not—you are moving within the sphere of fortune of the great heavenly order (대천륜) of heaven and earth, and there is no doubt that you stand within it.
Even from this one thing—whether you call upon God or not, whether you are in a dark place or a place of light, whether you are in a noble position or a lowly one—the direction of your heart is always urging you and appealing to you: “Represent your family! Represent society! Represent the nation! Represent the world! And further, represent Heaven and represent God!”
Follow the Direction of Your Conscience
And so, as the age of the historical consummation draws near, what word must finally come forth?
It is time that a time must surely come when, with one person raised, the world can become one.
Raising a human being, God sets the world right; raising a human being, He sets right heaven and earth, the visible world and the invisible world; and once the invisible and the visible worlds have been set right, so long as there remains a heavenly order (천륜) by which a human being is to be raised to represent God, and so long as this law cannot be broken, this work will, upon meeting its appointed time, be brought to completion.
You must understand that there is surely an appointed time that you must meet—if not in life, then even in death—a time you cannot but confront in the age when fallen history reaches its end. Christianity calls such a time the Last Days (끝날).
In preparation for such a time, for the Last Days, He made a promise before all fallen humankind. There is a day He promised: meeting an appointed time, facing the Last Days, He would set up a central figure and, manifesting upon this earth—in valuable content and a valuable form—one who can stand in the stead of the One, would grant to humankind an immense and astonishing work whereby all people, without passing through a course of great toil, could through him appear before God within a short span of time.
What day is that day? It is the day of the Second Advent (재림).
On the road of pursuing what is good and pursuing what is more valuable, you yourselves are placed in a labyrinth where you cannot set yourselves right. Even here, living and holding life as a single individual, frail as a thread, there are many afflictions.
There are many pitiable people who, unable even to solve their own personal problems, are placed in circumstances where they cannot handle their tangled troubles, and so take their lives. Because there is no way to set it right, however they try, they lament and cry out in anguish, and in the end, there are truly many cases in which, due to this, they destroy the whole valuable self of their life.
Because you stand as a single individual within such a historical road, within the road over which such heavenly fortune moves, you must examine well within what sphere you yourselves stand. Though my heart of itself seeks to go toward the place where heavenly fortune moves, my body, and the society in which I live, standing in utterly opposite positions, cannot escape the fight that collides with the conscience. The fiercer this fight grows, the more surely the time draws near before you when a decision of life and death must be made.
For this reason, if at any rate we have hope, and if we have some life-force of hope, then we must surely follow the direction of the conscience by which, in today’s reality, we can sing a victorious song of triumph against this enemy that collides into us through our conscience.
Your environment, whether small or large, is not the issue; whatever position you are in, if you do not resolve that problem, you must understand well that you are in the same fate as a great ship sailing on, unaware that there is a reef ahead.
The heart wishes to go gently and well toward its destination, to represent all people, to represent heaven and earth, and at last to represent God.
Drawn there by the power of the great Sovereign who moves the fortune of the whole universe, you are nonetheless held captive in adversity and circumstances from which you cannot go.
The laughter that such circumstances draw out of a person is like a rope that binds up his own path in the course of his life to come; and most people do not know that the very place where one can enjoy a single day of ease is the place that forewarns of tomorrow’s death.
For this reason, you must trample down and cast aside the outer suffering you face in reality, leap over it again and again, and go to the free world of the heart.
If there is some Absolute Being to whom one is bonded in the world of the heart, and if there be a person who, through the communion of his heart with that Absolute Being, can feel and fathom and appraise in this evil world the infinite value that comes flowing in, then however shabby and wretched a place he may seem to be in, he cannot but be called a great victor on the road of life.
If a band of young people who cry out and set forth—“Come, whatever suffering, whatever sorrow, whatever adversity! You, hardship, in what immense place of suffering will you make me stand?”—move forth from one corner of the earth on behalf of someone of the many peoples scattered across this globe, then such a band is no ordinary thing.
If there is surely a living Heaven, it will raise them.
Heaven, which is seeking the final value, will undoubtedly draw such a band and present them before the world’s humanity. Not only that—you must understand that it is Heaven’s position to be unable to do otherwise than to bring forth such a band before the many spirit individuals of the spiritual world, and further before God.
Therefore, if there is suffering in your heart, you must take up the work of removing this suffering.
And what, moreover, is the path of faith?
It is to refuse to accept all that comes to bind the world of the heart, and from deep within one’s own heart, toward that original object of purpose, transcending time and space, to be able from one’s standard of heart to sing forever of that value which cannot be exchanged for all the world.
Only when one stands in such a place can the heart rejoice, and only when one is placed in such a place can one feel something of value that cannot be exchanged for anything at all. Though countless sages and wise men have striven to find this, they have not yet been able to resolve it.
You Must Preserve the Human Value That Must Appear Before the Absolute Being
Today, young men and women students are gathered here.
Toward what place is your heart directed this day?
You must make this clear. The goal of the hope your heart longs for is the ultimate one. Since you yourselves are placed in a destiny in which you must appear before the one Absolute Being who can decide all things finally, you must first hold such a conviction there.
Even if you accomplish a thing you did not resolve upon, that has nothing whatever to do with you or with me.
Only the person who makes a resolve, fights through trials, invests and analyzes some purposeful value into it, and knows how to grasp through experience (체휼) the taste of it—only such a person, even upon achieving that purpose, can sing of its value before the Absolute Being, if there is one.
One cannot boast of a purpose achieved by chance without one’s own resolve or conviction.
If there is an Absolute Being, it must be taken away from such a person. However much they may have achieved some purpose, it is not their own.
And so, today, Heaven has set up before humankind the words “belief” and “faith,” giving us these wondrous words of exhortation, words of promise: “Believe! Hold conviction!
Even when your enemy appears and would swallow up your faith, you must not be swallowed here! Whatever adversity, whatever hardship you meet, you must not lose that one thing! To the one who believes, nothing is impossible!”
Now, if you yourselves, as human beings who must appear before some Absolute Being, are pursuing that value even in this hour, you must keep that heart gently and well.
When a being like yourself appears in your heart in some form in your stead, you must become those who pour out their sweat with all their devotion and who know how, whatever the sacrifice, to adorn it beautifully and feed it and clothe it beautifully.
You must walk such a path. The one who does this is finer than any monarch of a nation in the present fallen world, finer than any loyal subject, martyr, or sage of the ages.
Following the workings of such a heart, the sages of old gave us teachings and pointed out the path our lives should take. Yet in the course of historical development, they did not know the benefits of the age.
However much the sages and wise men of the past advocated and conceived, in our day, we have come to think beyond what they did.
For this reason, what is that monarch sleeping deep within you today?
You must understand that within your heart, deeply asleep, are precious sons and precious daughters who can stand gallantly—whether in heaven or on earth, and further, before the Creator—and present themselves without shame in the form of a son, in the form of a daughter.
Though it is but one hour in which your hand moves, you must long for your hand to move not merely as a hand for your own sake, but so that the hand of these precious sons and daughters may move within your heart. Even when you walk a path, you must know how to long not for your going, but for the place where you can go.
The thought should be: it is not I who do it, but I wish to show what he does in me. To whom? First, to show it to myself, and then to think of showing it before the Master who has led me to this place of absolute value. This is something sublime.
Suppose you think such thoughts—consider it.
If there is a God, would He punish you for thinking such thoughts? It is because one cannot think such thoughts—and to block the path by which one forgets that thought and other thoughts arise—that today one removes all thoughts apart from that.
Unless you become those who can give all their devotion before the original form itself, the action itself, the value itself that sleeps deep within you, you can by no means go forth before the Absolute Being. When, in seeking to walk this path, your friends come to oppose you… (The recording is briefly interrupted.)
It is so even when you look at a merchant in today’s world. If a person who has ten million won has a venture that can yield well over ten million won, he must throw down that ten million won. The principle of the world is all the same.
Yet today, countless human beings—though they know not what it is, there is something their hearts are directed toward—cannot find a way to reach it, however they try, despite there being some absolutely undeniable thing of value.
How is the vague, conceptual existence of God to form a relationship with the individual being of my own existential value?
In the environment of the living stage of life lived with substance, how is one to establish a value of shared feeling in which one can feel together with the Absolute Being?
How is one to grasp through experience not a conceptual God but a living God? This is impossible.
Whatever philosopher, whatever sage has appeared, none has solved such a problem. It is impossible.
If one could solve such a problem, it could not be bought for any amount of money. It is a form of value that could not be exchanged for hundreds of millions of people who cannot feel such a thing.
Since you are struggling in such a process, you must understand well what stage you are at today.
For this reason, Jesus too said, “Do not harbor two minds!”
The eyes are two, the hands are two, the feet are two, the mouth too, the head too—but the mind must not be two. It must be one. That one mind wishes for you to prosper, wishes for you to be better, wishes for you to be of greater value. That place of value is not here where we live today.
It is the place where one lives together with God. Lacking though you are, it is to make of you one of whom God can say, raising you: “O, So-and-so! You are my beloved son! All people! Welcome this one! All humankind, love this one!” that…
The Heart Promised Amid Tears Is Our Treasure
For this reason, for you surely to attain such a value, and to attain that value and form a relationship with me, your conviction concerning it must be thorough through and through.
Even if there is an enemy who would seize this conviction, you cannot yield. Even at the cost of your life being cut off this very instant, you cannot yield.
Even if your character should be ruined and the honor or whatever else you hold in the world should all fall away in a single morning like autumn leaves, that one thing must not.
Even if everything melts away, even if you die and turn entirely to water, that one thing must remain. Where will it remain? It will remain in the heart of a person—in the heart of a true person.
Among the students who have come here, or among the young people, there may be some who have not long since entered the Unification Church.
What is it I wish to counsel and tell you?
Unless you settle your position so that, even at the cost of your body being broken and falling today, you can savor the value of that conviction, you will fall along the way.
I, who am crying out to you here, am not demanding the honor of the world, nor am I struggling to find anything of the world. There is but one thing: the relationship between Him and me—the moment when, both He and I forgetting all dignity, we held fast and writhed together, and He called out, “So-and-so!” When I came to know that He was the very One I had longed for and sought, the heart of that moment, promised amid tears, became a treasure.
There—even if there be some leader of the world, some close person, some value that cannot be exchanged for anything—it cannot be reached with the things of the world; and because there is a bond that can in no way be turned back, I come forth and speak before you even in this hour.
The road until you came in here was no smooth road. That most people now sit here in a free environment, listening to the Word and feeling no sense whatever of outside persecution, did not come about all at once today.
You must not forget that, for this to be so, there is woven into your lives the unseen blood and sweat and tears of toil.
The one heart that can tread upon and rise above such a road of tears and such a road of blood and sweat cannot be exchanged for blood, cannot be exchanged for tears, cannot be exchanged for sweat.
You must understand that the bond formed between Him and me—which cannot be exchanged even at the cost of my arms and legs being cut off—and its value, is the final path the human being must meet and the final problem he must resolve.
To decide such a position and bear responsibility, and to live in this world with that responsibility and with a heart that holds that value precious—the affliction of it is greater than can ever be told. You do not know this.
You have learned the Principle. You have learned of the work of Restoration through indemnity. You easily call me by such titles as “Teacher” or the like, but do not become those who hold such titles in reverence.
Do not become people who revere the body of any one individual. I say again and again to my young family members and to my members: before going in to where one’s own teacher has fallen and is dying, and weeping as you hold him, I ask for family members—for disciples—who can shed tears first with this heart: seeing that there are the Heaven, the earth, and the people that the teacher loved, who will embrace them in his stead?
Now, what is it that must be steeped into your body and mind, into your very bone and flesh?
The words of truth of the Unification Church are surely needed too; but the value of the bond with the Absolute Being—who, flowing in the marrow of that truth, can intervene for me along an absolute line, toward a straight line, a bond that can in no way be severed and that no one can in any way trample—this you yourselves must hold deeply…
Unless you yourselves hold that something of which, though others know it not, I myself can sing the value, then you do not know what may become of you at some point along the way. You become an untrustworthy person.
As you know from your study of the Bible, it was so with the family of Noah, and so with the family of Abraham; and the people of Israel, chosen in history and boasting of their privilege as the chosen people, fought on for thousands of years awaiting the one will, the one promised day—yet where lay the cause of their failure to meet the Will and to meet the substance of the promise?
It was that, though they knew to value the outwardly manifested environment, they did not know the heart of Heaven that, beyond their ancestors, was bound together three-dimensionally to be made manifest outwardly; and so they became a lineage of betrayers.
A People with the Heart of a Filial Child, a Loyal Subject, and a Virtuous Woman Will Never Perish
What is it that I am most concerned about regarding you here today?
It is that the more the number of Unification members increases, the issue is not the number but the quality. What kind of quality? When someone takes on a burden that I cannot bear—even when I say, “You must not do that”—a deeper heart of Heaven becomes bound to him.
If someone can be loved before Heaven and come forth having his value determined before Heaven, then I earnestly desire to honor him and to bow my head to him.
When there is no such heart, then however much one may have come to know all these heavenly matters, these matters of value, one cannot hand them down to later generations. Any representative who does not delight in such a person, does not honor such a person, does not lift such a person, can be nothing but one who blocks the way of Heaven, rather than one who works for Heaven.
So I pray you all: now we must inherit the highest thing. We must press forward toward the final point. Though the clothes we wear be ragged and the circumstances we are in be in disarray, the one resolve—to go, within a single-hearted, boiling heart, toward the final value of myself as an individual before that Absolute Being who is the unbreakable Subject—must not change.
When you behold the sun rising in the morning, even in that moment of just having slept, you must rouse yourself again, telling yourself you are not weary.
When you behold the sun sinking at evening’s dusk, the passion of loyalty for Heaven burning in your heart must never be like the sun sinking behind the western hills.
If you, under such a goal, set everything right and press on toward one purpose…the time has already come. Thousands of years ago, or some thousands of years ago, our ancestors held such a resolve; yet because it had no connection to the reality in which they were placed, they could hold it only as a hope, and even so, they strove to attain it. But now the time has come. This world will fight. It will collide and collide and come crashing down.
All those things that boasted of their highest authority, their highest honor, their power, seem to have reached the highest summit; but from the very day they reach the summit, they descend. They go down.
When such circumstances, such a time has come, then there—driven and pursued before that crowd that sits self-intoxicated and satisfied in the highest place, embracing a body collapsing covered in blood in the place of tears—what is the legacy I must leave?
What is the inheritance I can leave behind?
What is the final testament I can bequeath?
If there be a band who say it is my heart burning toward Heaven, the heart of a filial child longing to be loyal, the heart of a loyal subject, the heart of a virtuous woman, then that band will never perish.
The highest collides with the highest, the world’s highest collides with Heaven’s highest… Seen in worldly terms, it is wretched beyond words, but seen in heavenly terms, it holds value beyond words. Therefore, to think of this world with a thorough, through-and-through conviction, one ideology is needed.
An ideology for whom? An ideology for the Father. You will understand well that the Father has endured twists and turns for six thousand years so that this ideology, together with your name, might form a bond with the Father.
Whose work is that work?
It is the Father’s work. At the same time as it is the Father’s work, it is your work.
Is it not so even in the world?
Who would deny his parents, saying they are not my mother, not my father?
What is there is a cord of the heart, I do not know. It is a heart that remains even if one says he is not my father. In the same way, this cannot be exchanged for any amount of money. By no human power can it be exchanged or severed.
If it is so even with our parents within the fallen lineage, how much more with the Father, who embraces history and does countless works in the course of providence to form a bond through the original heart?
The Father, who comes seeking with such a bond of heart held before Him, has not yet met such sons and daughters. He sought to raise such sons and daughters and, through them, centering on a heavenly family, and through that heavenly family, passing through clan and people, passing through the nation, to let all people stand as Heaven’s people and stand as Heaven’s sons and daughters; but such an environment has not come to be.
For this reason, you must understand well that the original Father is preparing an appointed time—to meet, even at the very end of this world, true sons and daughters unstained before this world of twists and turns, and, centering on a new history, to turn this world into a new world.
Then, when that time comes, what will you bring forth?
It is not well-dressed. It is not your handsome face. It is not knowledge. It is not learning. None of these. It is the treasure hidden within me that I alone possess; this treasure that I alone have, which not even the dearest one can follow; it is the heart that can praise this value, together with the Absolute Being, forever as a value that cannot be exchanged for the whole cosmos. If each of you has such a heart, then Heaven will speak, centering on the one who has such a heart.
Standing in such a heart, in such a position, you must understand that He is the Father who created heaven and earth, the Absolute Being, the Father who abides as the Subject of all the world of existence. It is not, as in the world, something drawn by money. It is not something drawn by any device. It is my heart—which cannot but go—that has drawn me to this place.
If you have felt the fact of being bound by such a cord of the heart, then the relationship between you and the Father is at the closest of distances. Though at the closest of distances, there is, undoubtedly, according to how you move, an absolute content of value there.
Even when I eat, I do not eat for the sake of a lump of flesh. However, the environment may change, and the situation may differ; I must exist due to the Father. The more one is in such a place… Then, if there is such an Absolute Being, is it to form a bond of value centering only on me, one individual today? No. He has struggled until now to form an original bond with the whole world—with even a single entity, if only it were made through His loving hand.
God Moves the World Through the Heart
In moving this world as a whole, Heaven does not seek to move it by any word. It moves it by heart. By a heart that can go ahead of any explanation, however well one explains—a heart one cannot help, a heart by which I cannot but be so—an unchanging heart directed toward one goal… A movement that can sweep up my life and abruptly transform my environment must surely come in the Last Days, which look toward history’s terminal point.
If, having entered the Unification Church here, you do not raise such a resolve, such a change of heart in yourself—if there is not some great force, something that orients the path you must walk so that you cannot but go—then you must go on.
You must go seeking. This is not the place where you can wholly rest. I mean that you must go seeking still further.
On the path of the filial child, if there is a treasure more precious than one’s own life, what is it? It is one’s parents.
On the path of the loyal subject, what is the value more precious than one’s own life?
It is nothing but that devoted heart which would offer complete loyalty to the sovereign. With the virtuous woman, too, it is the heart that matters. That heart cannot be exchanged by any human power, by any means, by any value.
If your heart naturally goes beyond its environment and, together with a direction of conscience I cannot help, changes your daily environment and you feel it leading you on, then there is no need to think of anything else.
What is longed for here is the most certain thing of all. Because I came to know what kind of place it is that must become the center of the One Way—a Way that can illuminate the heavenly order (천륜) and that all humankind can share alike—I thought of it gravely and came forth, hanging out the word “Unification.”
In this matter, I tested it for many years, taking hold of all kinds of people, even wicked people. It was not just one person.
That movement toward which my heart turns is not yours. Even if I die, that one thing I must leave behind. Even if I die, that movement, that orientation of the heart (향심, 向心), I must leave behind.
Even if I should be annihilated in this fallen world, that heart alone must conquer the world.
If it is a heart that began from Heaven, you must understand that it moves to be woven together with all people.
That heart—beyond the gifted and the ungifted, beyond East and West, beyond any national tradition, beyond national borders—though the circumstances differ, if in the world of the heart its felt touch and the direction of the heart can form an unchanging relationship with the Absolute Being, then that is the final path.
Awaken the Original Self and Form a Bond with the Absolute Being
When something good happens, to whom do you, even without realizing it, wish to show it?
Before the Master, before the Absolute Being. When something sad happens, with whom do you wish to share it? With the precious One. This is human nature. When I am joyful and glad, my steps quicken.
If I have something to eat, something good, something good to wear, I think of Him; and if a hard thing comes, if the heart wells up from within you that says, “Let that be mine alone; it must not be His,” then you will never perish.
You have flocked here this evening from every direction. The teacher standing and speaking here, seen one-on-one, is nothing special. He is just the same. But the matter is that there is something in the inner world that you do not know. That can never be reached by any human means or method.
The moment I go searching into that world, into that bond of heart, I cannot face it without tears. Because there is something of the heart that pierces in so deeply that I can scarcely hold myself upright, I have fought on until now.
When I behold the young people today, what surges up in my heart?
It is this: how, in this flowering youth, in this time of vigorous blood, by pouring all one’s strength into loyalty toward Heaven, to awaken that wondrously hidden original self and form a bond with the Absolute Being.
The course of life you must walk holds many twists and turns. When you look upon the world, it is a world that cannot be trusted; look around in any direction, and there are many environments in which one cannot shed tears to cultivate one’s own self and form a bond with Heaven’s nature. You must understand that, as the environment is, so too am I.
If there is One who can take responsibility for life, that One is none but God. None but God.
For six thousand years, passing through the course of providence amid adversity, even at the cost of holding sorrow within, even in the place of shedding pitiful tears without end, even at the cost of His chest being crushed, even in that place where some betray and turn away, He said, “Though you may go, my beloved son remains. I will send a son who, receiving Heaven’s promise, will stand in the place of the people.” You must understand that our Father is One who, bearing such a heart and setting a heart of hope before Him, came forth forgetting the present evil.
Moreover, He is the Father who hopes, saying, “Even amid the bitterness of reality, the sons and daughters of hope will come before long. There will appear sons and daughters who can achieve this purpose for which I hope and for which I fight.
Though in this present age I suffer misery, bitterness, and sorrow, and though I am pierced with a heart so wrought that to destroy heaven and earth in a single hour would not be enough, yet—understanding all this bitterness—true sons and daughters, sons and daughters of hope, will come, so that this place of bitterness will never again be shown before me.”
You must understand that He is the Father who came forth—however many appalling horrors, sights one cannot bear to see and things one cannot bear to hear, unfolded in this process—crying out in His heart each time He met a sorrowful thing, “Let all this pass!
When this passes and the one day of hope comes, my beloved son, my beloved daughter…”, and who chanted thus with an enduring heart each time He met a twist of fate.
The Happy Person Holds Many Untold Twists of Heart Before God
To the leaders of Israel, whom He raised on behalf of the people, He taught, weeping aloud, that Heaven’s circumstances were thus; yet they trampled all those circumstances.
Each time, He is the Father who says, “O Israel, who knows not my circumstances regarding the people! Though you may go, the hope I pleaded with you remains. I faced you, Israel, with this heart, but you went away. Yet the heart of hope with which I faced you remains.”
Even when we eat, there are many times of han. I too—longing for that one joyful place, that one place where hope and circumstances and heart blend, that one hour when, free from Satan’s conditions of accusation, I might attend the Father in a free nest and take a meal—I who speak here am going forth with such a heart of hope.
Though I cry out to you here through this one heart, I am not demanding the value of what is cried out here today. I cry out with a heart of hope. I cry out bearing a family of hope. I come to cry out with a heart of hope.
Even while beholding their betrayal—those who held to the Father and had hope, those with whom He shared circumstances, those who shared heart—He said, “You, go; if you would go, then go! For the sons and daughters of hope are coming, for the circumstances of hope remain, for the heart of hope remains…” Following that will which my Father bore as He came forth, I too must go thus; and from that place I am going forth even now.
All of you, even if there is nothing held in my heart and not much stored in my breast, you must at the least become people of hope who long for the form of that son of hope for whom the Father hoped, who long for the Father’s circumstances, and who long for that heart of the Father who shared His heart.
Therefore, you must prepare how you will attend to my Father when that one day of hope comes. I must hold many twists of circumstance, resolving that when I meet Him, I will tell Him such circumstances.
The person who holds many untold twists of heart, resolving to lay before the Father all his bitter heart in this way, will be happy. That is an undoubted fact. The sorrowful suffering of death in history has trampled the thought of hope, trampled circumstances and heart, and made a world that tears the heart of the one Way to shreds.
Yet Heaven does not merely stand by and look on at these circumstances even in this hour. You must understand well that Heaven, in my stead, is fighting at this very scene today for the sake of this hope, for the sake of this heart, for the sake of these circumstances, for our sake. You must understand it well. For whose sake? For my sake. One comes to feel such things often.
When you go out to the provinces to witness, or go out to enlighten, people of a high spiritual level will testify to you.
Why do they testify?
For the sake of the one day of hope, for the one day of circumstances, for the one day of heart, the many spirit individuals of the spiritual world are all being mobilized even at this hour, centering on God. To prepare an appointed time when your wish and your circumstances and your heart can be joined to Heaven’s hope, Heaven’s circumstances, Heaven’s heart…
The standard upon which it can be set is no national standard. It is the standard of heaven and earth. God too desires to advance toward that standard upon which He can rest here.
If only that comes to be, it would be well to forget everything else.
If I today have not become such a person—if I have not stood as one who fulfills hope, have not stood as one who can share circumstances, have not stood as one who can share heart—then I must at least become one person of hope.
If you today cannot become those who, bearing hope, can come forth before the Father toward the circumstances of hope and the heart of hope and say, “My Father! Aren't thy circumstances thus? Is not Thy heart thus?”—then unless you stand at least in such a place, you cannot walk the path you are to walk.
This evening, you must set all of this right before you go. Because I exist for the sake of the One, my every thought and all I am, my very soul and all I am, must exist for His sake. That is the purpose of the human being.
Created beings are made to be so. You must understand that I exist for the sake of that One, that you exist for His sake. You must be able to say, “I exist for the sake of that One. Whatever may come, I exist representing that One. Whether I go east or west, by night or by day, I exist for His sake.”
Though He came with a heart of hope, He could not share His circumstances; the heart-standard that all of heaven and earth could long for, He could not form a relationship with the people of today, and that hope was trampled.
Bearing hope, He entrusted the responsibility to the one responsible for that age and set him in the place of hope; He spoke of that age’s circumstances and spoke of that age’s heart, yet all was trampled.
Today, this age is a time of worldwide hope, a time of worldwide circumstances, a time of worldwide heart. Such a time has come. So you must understand that the time is not far off. Absolutely, that one heart alone…
When You Cross the Final Pass, You Must Not Receive God’s Support
Then, if you feel that you exist representing Him, it is not that I take responsibility and represent Him only in the good things. It is that I exist for His sake. The good, of course, but the bad as well…
Who committed the Fall?
Our ancestors Adam and Eve did. So, before God, you must say, “Before Thee, who hast had no substance of hope for six thousand years, I, as a substance of hope, will be so even toward my family; in my family’s stead I would share these circumstances; in my family’s stead I would know this heart.”
What kind of land is this earth today?
It is a fallen land, a land of sin, a land where the enemy runs rampant. It is a land meant to block the path we walk and tear it to shreds. It is a land of fighting the enemy.
Who does the fighting for us?
Heaven does it. But this will not do, I say. We must take responsibility for this fight. That this fight was historically left to Heaven at all is itself a bitter thing.
Who is the band that has come forth resolved and determined to take up this fight? It is you who are gathered here. There now remains for us a final fight. There remains a final fight that must be fought by moving Heaven and moving earth.
That fight is for whose sake?
It is done for the Father. Why? Because I exist due to the Father… It is enough to make one grateful simply to think that the Father raised me from such a place, taught me such a path, and labored to join us to that only heart of love He bore as hope along that path.
Having come to know such a thing today, can we leave it to Him yet again? Now, whether Heaven supports us or not, we must take responsibility. When I think of Heaven’s salvation, I feel too ashamed. I am overwhelmed with awe.
We have learned the principle of Restoration through indemnity. When Adam and Eve fell, did God support them? Think about it. Up until Adam and Eve came into being, God shaped and made them; but when they fell, did God support them, saying, “Go ahead and fall”? He did not support them. In the same way, you too, at the time when you cross the final pass, must not receive God’s support.
You must not receive the support of any angel of the heavenly world either. “This I will take responsibility for myself.” You must have the zeal to be able to say, “Since I have come to know that this is the genealogy Thou didst seek to establish, through a center of heart and through a bond of heart, in such a time of hope, now I will do it alone, without receiving the support of God, the support of angels, or the support of any saint of the spiritual world.”
I, who speak here, am no different. At this time, I must not receive anyone’s support. I, too, will send you out and cast you into the enemy’s den. Why? Because the indemnity must be paid all at once.
This is a cunning time, a time of much craft of sin, a time when one is easily lured by nature, a time of the whole settling of accounts in history. If there is anything evil, it is the highest evil. It must be swept away. After being tested there, I must become one who can gallantly present his valiant self before Heaven.
Keep a Heart Unashamed Before Your Conscience
From now on, I will not support you. I mean that I must not. Now I know. I have come to know the path I must walk and what the final value is. I have come to know that God and I are in an absolute parent-child relationship, and that the debt I owe before that Parent could not be repaid even if my body were torn into a thousand and ten thousand pieces. And yet, can I open my mouth and say, “Help me”? When you go forth to witness and your circumstances become hard, you must not pray, “Father! I am starving to death.” “That I have stood in such a place was for their sake; so if Thou hast a heart of mercy seeing this, then have mercy upon them.”
Even when, in this winter, you come to sleep in a cold room, and the merciless cold wind beats against your body, and you weep, curled up to sleep with your body bent like a tongue, you must pray thus: “O Father!
If Thou lookest upon me with pity… Is it not my being here for the sake of these people, for the sake of the world’s humanity?”
Unless you stand in such a place, you will never be set free. With the one who goes forth with such a heart foremost, Heaven will never be present. Having been through it, I came to know.
When I went into prison and became a captive, placed utterly in such circumstances, Heaven, through someone out of nowhere, would bring food when I was hungry. Though I did not seek clothing, it brought me something to wear. I, who speak here, am not speaking from a place of comfort. Because I have been through such an experience, I have the confidence to speak with all assurance. My conscience is not troubled.
What I said in Seoul, gathering my close family members, was this: if you love and honor me, then do not let your conscience be troubled. I said it every time I spoke.
From a standard of eating well and dressing well, I cannot speak. It is by my hardship that I can speak openly. It is by my toiling in a hard place that I can stand openly before the people, and set up my dignity before all people and before heaven and earth.
When I am at a standard I have not lived up to, my conscience will not let me open my mouth. So I pray you all, in your hearts at least, become those who put God first.
If there is a Father who would seek and embrace the thirty million people, then if—before that Father, in however shabby a form—one goes beyond the thirty million, takes the Father’s heart to heart and weeps, forgets one’s own pitiable form, and says, “O Father! If Thou lookest upon me with mercy, then love this people,” then due to that, that people will not perish.
O you who are parents: if you would raise your child and make of him a fine person, then, when you set your child before you and speak of him to others, hold a heart unashamed before your conscience. Heaven desires that you become those who, if you have someone you love, can set that person before you and speak from a place untroubled in conscience before all people.
Jesus lived thirty years upon this earth and then died, and the Holy Spirit, who was his object partner, also came to this earth and walked a path of bloody tears.
This is Heaven’s han. As sons of God, we must have something to say. All of you—if we are now those who have come forth before this people, and further, those who have come forth before humankind—the time will come when you will speak before this people, before all the people of this world. I hope that you will be those who, when you speak before the Father who has toiled, are untroubled in conscience.
If you go forth from such a place, what will become of you in the end?
Heaven seems to lead one into places of many twists and turns, but in the end…
Because Heaven knows well the heavenly nature one was born with, because Heaven is a Father of love, even though I am drawn in as if I were falling, as if I were pitifully perishing—rather than as one striving to achieve the purpose by any occasion or any means—Heaven will without fail take responsibility and draw me up to the very highest place, higher than what I would wish. The worry is that you cannot hold out until then.
After only a few years, all comes tumbling down. Jacob was twenty-one years, grandfather Noah a hundred and twenty years, Moses a hundred and twenty years—so at the least you must sweep past in units of ten years. Three sevens are twenty-one (3×7=21); you must pass beyond seven years and more.
Man Is the Division of the Father, Woman the Division of the Mother
When you come forth with such a heart, do you know in whose stead Heaven means to set you up? In whose stead does He mean to set up a band that seems to be nothing?
He means to set you up in the stead of the Lord who is to come, in the stead of the Triune God (삼위신) who has worked upon this earth until now, and at last in the stead of the Father Himself.
In this world, where one must bear the value of some resultant achievement of substance, and in the world of the heart, though the value made manifest is tiny and slight, that motive of the heart takes hold of and brings forth even the heart of hope, beyond the purpose. Though the work that appears as a result may be slight, its value is a value that stood in the Father’s place.
For this reason, you are now out there—for whose sake are you out there?
First, you are out there for your own sake, and next, you are out there representing the Father. You are the Father’s representatives. And if you are the Father’s representatives, then what? You must inherit the Father’s hope, the Father’s circumstances, the Father’s heart.
Heaven will surely accomplish the purpose of creation, to set you up upon this earth as the representatives of all people, as the protagonists of the whole cosmos. Because that is the purpose, what will it make of you in the end?
A representative—a representative. You must understand that man is the division (분신) of the Father, and woman the division of the Mother. It is a body divided off. As you learned in the Principle of Creation, it is a body that stands in its place.
What did I emphasize at the Headquarters Church at the start of this year?
It was this: that this year you are the Father’s representatives and so must take responsibility. You are representatives of hope, representatives of circumstances, representatives of heart—and not only that, in the end, you are representatives in the fight against Satan. In this fight, you must not receive Heaven’s support. You must go by your strength.
I, too, on the road I have walked through my forty years of life until now, have received no one’s help. As for the responsibility I have taken on, even at the cost of my life being cut off, I will not be beholden to you. Because I stand in the position of a teacher who guides the path you must walk… And so now, setting a limit by taking these three years as a condition, I am sending you forth.
Who are you whom I send forth?
You are the Father’s representatives, the representatives of the Triune God. Because you are those who have come forth representing True Parents’ heart, representing True Parents’ circumstances, representing True Parents’ wish, there is no forgiveness for one who tramples this law. There is no forgiveness.
In coming forth and vowing before Heaven with both hands raised, you must say, “O Father, I am now the Father’s representative!” To do so, there must be the witness of three persons.
Who do you think will provide it?
True Parents provide it. Attending the Father, centering on the Triune God, I who stand in the place of heaven and earth must, as the division of the original Father and the division of the Mother through the principle of creation, come forth and vow at the place of bearing witness to the Triune God with hand raised.
What will you take responsibility for on that day?
It is Heaven’s heart of hope. It is that Heaven, bearing its circumstances, bearing its heart, will teach you this truth which until now it could not teach. Therefore, you know what the Father’s wish is, you know what the Father’s circumstances are, you know what the Father’s heart is.
For Restoration Through Indemnity, You Must Suffer on a Hidden, Secret Path
You yourselves are now out to enlighten in more than eight hundred places throughout South Korea. I do not desire any great results.
When you go out and then return, what will you leave behind before you return?
You must leave behind the spirit of the Father, the spirit of True Parents, the spirit of the Holy Father, the Holy Son, and the Holy Spirit. Even when you withdraw from that village, you must leave behind an image of yourself that cannot be forgotten—an image of yourself that rises even in dreams and cannot be torn from the mind. When you return shedding tears…
In the three years, all of our daily living must have tears and sweat and blood shed into it.
You must understand that a whirlwind is raging, one that must bring about the final consummation of the six thousand years. On the road of these three years, if there be any among you who are parents, it will be an eternal han if they cannot send their children forth in such a period.
If those who have someone they love are, before the Will at such a time, in a place where they cannot take part in such a period, it will be an eternal han. The descendants who do not have such parents will have their time of han.
Jesus said that he attended the Father in his own individual body. For us, now, everything is construction.
When Adam and Eve in Eden built their house, what implements did they have? Did they have any tools?
They did not. For this reason, when you go to the provinces in days to come and stand, centering on yourself as an individual, there must without fail be a lodging there where you can dwell.
The lodging must have a holy place and a most holy place. You are building your own house. It is not the house of the teacher who speaks here. It is your house.
If, in building your own house, you say you will not shed your blood and sweat and tears, then you deserve to perish.
You must leave behind a garden. And then, attending God, you must desire to receive the Blessing. You must understand that God longed to give the Blessing, and that Adam and Eve were ones whose inner selves longed to receive the Blessing.
The person who would receive the Blessing out in an open field perishes. How can one ask to receive the Blessing before the Father after building only a humble three-room thatched hut? At this time, when the satanic world revels in pleasure in such an immense place, you must become those who can boast that, though I have nothing to boast of, my heart at least cannot be exchanged for any amount of gold. That is the substitute for your body, and a value greater than that with which God created Adam and Eve.
I have no money. This time, when I mobilized so many people from the headquarters, I did not have a single thousand-won note—though others say the Unification Church has plenty of money.
Even without money, we must walk the path of our destiny, which we must walk. Because there are such twists of the heavenly order (천륜), you must accept the mission of breaking down, through yourself, the present age that blocks the destiny of this people.
I drove you out while recalling a time in my childhood. I drove you out, saying, “I will drive these growing children out in place of that form in which I once appealed for Thee, shedding tears of blood; for I know that in those days Thou didst uphold me thus, that Thou wert there in such times to take hold of me thus…” You are not your own.
When I sent you out, I shed tears and prayed for you. Had I not, I would be a hypocrite. It would be to make sport of your blood and sweat. So even now I am praying that you will not fall into debt of the heart.
On the day when you stand before Heaven and the Father raises both hands and blesses you, you must understand that, just as Jacob’s household became a people who received Heaven’s blessing, you will become the ancestors of a clan.
You must not, at this time, become betrayers of Heaven and appear as eternal criminals of the heart. You must not become one who appears thus. Adam and Eve became criminals of the heart. Within the realm of imperfection, they did not cultivate the heart that Heaven had permitted.
You are God’s representatives. You must fight. You must fight with your teeth clenched. Jacob went to Laban’s house in Haran and fought. He went to Egypt and fought. Jesus, too, came to this earth, to the satanic world, and fought. For what? It was a fight to win back people. This is why the path you must walk is called the course of Restoration. You will understand it well.
What is God’s han? It is that even the three disciples rejected Jesus, and that the twelve disciples betrayed him. The course of Restoration through indemnity until now has been a reversal.
You, too, to go forth to the position of parents, must establish three sons and daughters of faith. Otherwise, you cannot go forth. It is so arranged—a reversal. Had Adam and Eve become parents and borne children, they would have become a people receiving God’s normal blessing; but because they fell, things were turned upside down, and so Heaven worked through servants, through angels. This is the Old Testament Age. The Father, cooperating with angels to make such a people, goes upward in reverse.
Then, after raising a son, the aim is to form a bond with Heaven through the standard of parents. Is it not so? You, too, must walk the path Jesus walked, with your teeth clenched. To walk the course of Restoration through indemnity, how much suffering on a hidden, secret path…
You must understand the heart of Jesus, who lamented, “There is a world I am rightly to receive, yet until I receive it, how could anyone know my frustration?”
I, who am crying out here, am no different. For forty years I could not stretch out my legs, like a drifting cloud… I could not live a single day in peace, with my feet and body set down. Like the drifting clouds… You do not know how hard the path of Restoration through indemnity is.
The Path You Must Walk Is to Become an Offering Before the Father
Yet you are in a perfect environment. It is a time when, if you take up our truth and go forth, Heaven can work on the horizontal plane. Because the time has come when the standard of heart can spread out, centering on the earth, Heaven can work horizontally, and you yourselves can unfold the work of Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Since you have entered a horizontal position in which, becoming representatives of Jesus and representatives of the Holy Spirit, you can raise the object direction, Satan is now sharpening his resolve. You must cross over that ridge.
Now, even if I die, I have no han. Until that is done, I must not die. Now there is a path that human beings must walk.
What is the necessary condition for the path you must walk?
Since an age has come in which, even though I teach you directly and horizontally against Satan, he cannot accuse, do you know what kind of period this three-year period is?
It is the period in which you, centering on your blood and sweat and tears, go to the satanic world and bring back the lost sons and daughters. You must understand that.
In going into that village, in going out to the place you are assigned, your purpose must be clear.
For what reason are you out there?
You must understand the position of the lost parent, the piercing heart of the parent who wanders searching for his child. Because they do not understand even when taught, you teach them, even as to the dimension of the heart, what a parent is.
You must understand how greatly the Father longs—today—for the Father’s wish, the Father’s circumstances, the Father’s heart, for an environment in which He can reveal, “My son, my daughter! You are the substance of my wish, the tradition of my circumstances, the tradition of my heart.”
In the field where this can be done, do not fall into debt. I do not wish to help you with a single penny. I mean that I must not help. I must not help in any official way. On the course each one has taken responsibility for, the path a Unification believer must walk is the path of representing the Father.
“The Father’s hope, circumstances, and heart will become a fruit made manifest in my self today. Father, give me Thy wish. Give me thy circumstances. Give me Thy heart.” As the heart of hope, the circumstances of hope, the wish of hope, you yourselves must become the subject, and through yourselves Heaven’s hope must be able to be fulfilled.
You must appear as representatives of True Parents, as the division of the Father and the division of the Mother, as the substance of the Father’s wish, as the substance of the Father’s circumstances and the Father’s heart.
As I said earlier, you have appeared, over the whole six thousand years until now, as the substance of the Father’s wish, the substance of His circumstances, the substance of His heart. You must make that wish your own, those circumstances your own, that heart your own.
Toward Heaven, your path here upon this earth is the path of your becoming an offering before the Father. You must take responsibility. From now on, you, at the very least, bear such a heart…
This is why I say, do not be beholden to anyone. Now, since you have no money, you might go and ask your mother and father, or do something of the sort.
If you are hungry and go and plead with your mother and father, they, knowing nothing of it, will simply help you. And so, by that condition, your mother and father receive blessings. It sets such a standard for them. I will not give a detailed explanation. The time is such a time.
Again, look at your fortune now. The Principle states plainly that 1960 is the time of the world’s turning point. These three years are the three years of Jesus’ public ministry.
If you take part fully in this period and become victors, you will be given the privilege of being able to call Jesus your elder brother. This is why you must pay the indemnity with your blood and sweat and tears. I ask that you not become the defeated in this final, fierce battle. Yes, I understand. (“Yes.”)
Prayer
The substance of the hope that human life longed for was Thou, and the substance of the cause for which we lost it and came to shed tears was also Thou. We have come to know that for the human being, without Thee, everything from one thing to ten million things is utterly without meaning.
We have come to know that my life too, having lost Thee, is without meaning, and that my desire and my hope and the value of all the power of my existence, having lost Thee, are without meaning. Yet when we come to know that there remains a will of Thy salvation, of Thy wish—to awaken these and urge on my heart to commune with the highest standard—we have bowed our heads with a heart overwhelmed with awe; look upon us with mercy.
As fallen descendants, who could stand openly before Thee and say, “I am Thy son”? We have come to know that the further we go, the more we cannot but bow our heads, and the further we go, the more we cannot but shed tears that pierce to the marrow.
The young ones gathered here this evening have gathered before Thy knee and learned what Thy wish is. I would give some desire of mine to these, and I would exchange that desire for Thy desire.
Now we would entrust before Thee all the hope we hope for, all our circumstances, all the bonds of heart; so look down and watch over that posture of ours that would entrust, each time we entrust. And when we behold that we have not reached the standard at which we can entrust, we cannot but shed tears even as we appeal before the Father. We earnestly beseech and implore Thee to receive us.
We have now come to know that, even by such means, Thy will must be accomplished. We have come to know that to take hold of one life through hardship upon hardship, to set it before the Father’s altar, and to make of it a priest who pledges loyalty and builds up the altar, there cannot but be the mingling of blood and tears.
Father, we know that here there are sons and daughters whom Thou Thyself art concerned for. I long for them to become a people who can share Thy heart. O Father who leadest these unworthy ones, how Thou hast labored! We have come to know that when they shed tears, Thou dost shed tears with them; that when they are beaten, Thou dost feel the bitterness with them; that Thou art the One who exhorted them when they fell.
When I come to know that I bear a responsibility to stand thus in Thy stead before such a Father, I cannot, beholding the Heaven of this present age, restrain a heart of contrition before Heaven. Yet in my heart I know that Heaven will stand in our place.
We know that, centering on the Will, all this movement of heaven and earth will accompany their hearts. Since the Father cannot dispose of the environmental conditions of sacrifice for us, and since we are placed in a position of indemnity, forgive us, O Father, for the concern we cause Thee.
And so grant that we may become those who endure and overcome to the end. However fierce the snowstorm that sweeps us away, grant that the single-hearted devotion toward the Father, burning in our bodies, may at least remain.
Even at the cost of our bodies retching blood and collapsing, grant that there may at least remain a crimson heart that can say, “O Heaven, O earth, I have given my all in loyalty!”
I know that Thy will, regarding region upon region on behalf of this people, and especially this one region of North Jeolla Province, was great. Now, in this one period spanning more than seven full years, grant that Thy will may blaze here once more.
Through these young ones, join heart to heart and join one heart to another. Our path was never a matter of any earthly distance.
Remember, O Father, that these are ones who, in a place of want, sharing a single bowl of gruel, could yet share their tears gathered.
What is there to leave behind in the world?
Forgetting entirely this body that will return to water when we die, we must become those who, holding the Will alone gently and forever in our hearts, know how to exalt it and know how to serve.
By night and by day, I have desired that we, family member with family member, beyond time and transcending the points of time, may praise the Father.
I have come to know the han of the power of darkness cast over this season in which heaven and earth, night and day, are divided. Grant that there may be a time, even one hour, even in the night, when we can sing of the Father and lean upon the Father.
Through this people, by night and by day, we must become those who know how to attend Thee in Thy joy, in Thy satisfaction. On the course of accomplishing the Will, the night was of no matter. Going without sleep was no matter. Going hungry was no matter. Being persecuted was no matter.
Having been through it all, I found that the Father was there. Where there were tears, the Father was there. (The following was not recorded and so could not be included.)
Let Us Become God’s Representatives
