Consider how hard those words “patience and deep thought” are. In the case of the East, if it is asked what this meaning of patience is, it is the mind of a blade, the mind of a blade. It means that one measures with the mind of a blade. It means that it has such a meaning. What this is, is that one measures straight. It is the same whether an Eastern woman or a Western woman, but it means that in enduring and thinking too, one regards men as somewhat better.
Of course there will be many men too who cannot endure and think deeply, but you must know that this is without fail the most important word in our daily life and within God’s Will that realizes the Providence of Restoration.
For the Providence of Restoration Men Are More Suitable Than Women
In our daily life, through history, or in the living of humanity, if one were asked whether it is women or men who exert much bad influence, how would you answer?
Well, let the women answer. It means that such people, seen in proportion, are more numerous among women than among men. It means that that is the answer.
Then it means, why are the women so many, why would they be many? It is that women cannot endure long and cannot think deeply. If one strikes this piano with a bang all at once, the women make an uproar. Is it not so with the women?
Seen in this way, it means that in carrying out the Providence of Restoration God did not, if possible, set up women. Women were unavoidably just…. Do you think God did well, or did badly? (“He did well.”) Why do you think He did well? It means that if the Providence of Restoration were easy, it would be more effective to use women than men. Why is that? It is because women speak quickly. Women speak quickly, but a man sits there blankly and is considerably slow.
It means that people who follow forth according to the Will of the Providence of Restoration, when one calls, “Hey,” even after hearing, look up to see what is happening. And next, they measure up and down, and look at that person and at this person, and only then answer, “Yes.” It means that such a person was needed. Do you understand? And next he is slow-witted and dull. It means that a dull person is slow-witted. Like a bear, just…. It means that once he begins to walk he walks for ten years, once he begins to walk.
It means that a person who thinks, being such a person—not a person who does not think, but such a thinking type—is suitable for the Providence of Restoration. It means that I think he is the best, quite the model. Thinking so, if one told these Western women to raise their hands if they wished to obtain such a husband, it means that there would not be one. In daily life, how stifling would it be, how much? Those called men sit and, when asked and all that, they just slip away and do not even speak, and do not even answer, and while doing so they think only their own secret thoughts and how much…. It means that if men did so, the women would make an uproar.
All of you, there is a thread, is there not?
Think of eating thread. Think of swallowing thread; how hard it is. One fathom, two fathoms, three fathoms, a hundred fathoms…. Consider it. Do you understand what that means? It means that women could not eat even an inch.
If it is asked what the Providence of Restoration is like, it is like simply eating several thousand fathoms of such thread. Now, if there are a thousand fathoms of thread, would it be easier to eat that, or would the Providence of Restoration be easier? (“Eating the thread.”) Think of several thousand fathoms, several tens of thousands of fathoms. Thinking in this way, would a woman do that, a woman? Can a woman do that? If there is a woman among you who says she can do it, raise your hand.
So in the Providence of Restoration women are a failure, a failure. Is that not so? So it means that it is better not to use women.
In Important Matters, a Person Who Endures and a Person Who Thinks Deeply Are Needed
If it is asked what sort of thought there is in Korea or in the East, it means that there is such a tradition that if the father has something secret to say, even though the mother is there, he sends the mother out and calls the male son and speaks. If that were a Western woman, how much would she cry out…? It means that if one lived disregarding her like this, she would pack her bundle and run away. Is that not so? Is that not so? It means, where would there be such a law? It means that one cannot answer that.
If you were seized by the enemy and taken away and put in a place of being tortured and dying and unable to live, it means that a man can endure, but a woman cannot endure. It means that the mother becomes a burden to her son. Do you understand that?
It means that if war breaks out and one wins, the women of that nation are spared. Or there is a law of seizing them all and bringing them, but it means that those sons and daughters, those heirs, are all seized and killed. It means that even one man, if he grows up, can move the world and more than avenge, but a woman cannot grow up and take revenge. Is that so, or is it not?
If one says such things, the women feel unpleasant, do they not? However dull a woman may be, her reaction is faster than a sensitive man’s. It means that women are fast in that. If asked, they answer, and whatever they do, they are fast.
Now, seen in this way, it means that God’s not bringing women onto the stage in the course of the Providence of Restoration was an exceedingly wise attitude of God. Is it not so with you too? It means that the Fall in the Garden of Eden too was done by a woman. Seen in this way, in the course of history until now, Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Jesus, John the Baptist, and all the rest—their not being able to endure and not being able to think deeply was all because of women.
In this world, in this world of existence, in the universe, who would have endured most? Who would have thought most deeply? (“God.”) So God, and next? If one sets men and women before oneself? (“Men.”) Then among men too, what sort of person is it? (“…”) Is it a person who grips and exercises power or a pitiful person who has not gripped power? You must know that the weak, people who held a righteous, upright mind but who are weak, have without fail trodden such a course. Now, why would they have endured?
Why could they not act?
It means that they endured and could not act to be better than you. It means that they endured for the sake of that day. Do you understand what that means? It means that one can generally pick these out. It means that one can pick out such things like this within the history in which all humanity lives. It means that in such a sphere, the more each day goes on, the more one collides, and even though the environment of severe persecution and difficulty widens, these people absolutely do not perish. It means that they do not perish. It means that they enter a place of enduring more and thinking more. You must know that.
It means that one does not endure for the present. One endures for the future. It is not that one thinks for the present. It means that one thinks for the future. It means that this is fearsome. It means that this is fearsome. It means that one thinks, “When that time comes, I will speak together with my foundation, together with my success; I will act.” Does it seem so?
Then what sort of One is God?
If God is such a One who has endured most and thought most, what sort of nation, what sort of body, what sort of individual would such a One be able to face hereafter? Do you understand? It means that it is the same. It means that because God too is such a One who has come forth enduring until now, He seeks to stand upon an individual and a society and a nation equipped with such an aspect. It means that that is a natural conclusion.
In the world of diplomacy, in the world of diplomats, it means that a person who speaks much is bound to lose; it means that that is the settled judgement, the settled judgement. In the end, a person who does not speak…. All of you, in a school classroom, if it be a classroom. To this person, “Blah blah blah—” and going over there, “Blah blah blah—” a person who plays the chief propagandist, and a person who does not speak and sits there blankly thinking—which of them gets ahead later? Wait and see. It means that a fellow who is quick of mouth and goes “Wah wah wah—” absolutely does not get ahead. A person who sits blankly in the corner without speaking, holding a book, plodding along…. It means that the people whom everyone dislikes when they see their behavior all turn out, when one waits and sees later, to succeed.
Still more, the more one sets before oneself all the important matters of a nation, or the problem of whether a nation or the world dies or lives, such important problems as whether heaven and earth prosper or perish, the more one is bound to seek such a person who endures, a person who thinks deeply. It means, how necessary is that? It means that we come to see all too well in daily life how necessary it is.
The More One Is Oppressed, the More One Must Know How to Think Deeply and Rise Valiantly
It means that a valiant person does become a victor. There is such a time when one can be victorious…. It means that a person who endures has lost, but there are any number of opportunities again. It means that there are opportunities again and again. Yet you must know that however valiant one may be, one cannot win every time. Do you understand what that means?
Seen in this way, would one desire valor, or would one desire endurance? One arrives at such a conclusion. So which would one desire? (“Enduring.”) When one hears words like this, one desires endurance, but if one asks all at once, without thinking of all these things, “Is endurance good, or is valor good?” they all desire valor.
If this is a principle, it applies to the individual too, and applies to the family too, and applies to society too, and applies to the world too, and applies to God’s Providence of Restoration too. It means that it is the same.
Now, all of you, will you take a husband who endures or take a valiant husband? (“A husband who endures.”) A husband who endures? It means that from Western women the words “a husband who endures” would not come out. Look. Is it not so in France, or in England, and everywhere? If two men love, centering upon one woman, they say, “Let us have a duel,” and going “Bang bang bang,” when one person comes to die, it means that that woman follows the man who remains. Ha, it means, how different is that?
That is why you must know that it is not England or France, which carry on such a play, such a nation strong in the spirit of chivalry, that is fearsome, but that there is a fearsome quality in a nation that is not so. Now, what sort of nation is such a nation? Have you thought of such a thing? It is China, China. It means the Chinese, the Chinese. So it means that China is a great problem in the worldwide Last Days, a nation of problems. It means that the Chinese think that though people enter their country and occupy it, they get swallowed up by them.
However clean the Japanese are, and however good and clean Western civilization is and all that they say, go and look at a Chinese restaurant. Everything is chipped and everything is dirty, and in any case, it is so. Yet those people, that…. It means that it is not a thing to sneer at. It means that it is absolutely not a thing to sneer at. It means that it is fearsome. Seeing that, we must do more. It means that we must do more.
These days, the Black people. Until now, Black society has undergone adversity and suffered at the hands of white society as an underdeveloped society, but it means that they did endure. It means that though they say they endured, they could not think deeply. It means that if one thinks deeply and studies, everything is bound to develop. That is why the more one receives persecution and oppression, the more one must do deep thinking proportionally about it. It means that one must think deeply and know how to unite and know how to rise valiantly. It means that the more severe the suffering, the more a person who has thought deeply becomes one at even a word, at even a touch. Because all are the same. It means that they become completely one. It means how strong it would be if one were thus united? Do you understand?
It Must Be a Religion That Endures Long and Thinks Deeply
When we look at the world from such a perspective, which nation is the nation that will be a problem hereafter? It is China. It means that they built the Great Wall. A nation like Egypt made a great to-do about building pyramid houses and all that, but it means that all flows away. Yet China does not flow away, does it?
In the Teacher’s thought, what will become of it on the day the Soviet Union and Communist China fight? It means that this is the problem. It means that in the immediate term the Soviet Union will win. Yet it means that the fight will continue for several hundred years. It means that they are such a people. If one looks at the clothes the Communist Chinese wear, they all have their jackets….
And next, what sort of people are there?
It means that the ones who have come forth while undergoing adversity are the Jewish people. It means that this Jewish nation is a problem. It means that in England too, the Jewish people are a problem, and in America too, the Jewish people are a problem. Moreover, historically, now Korea too comes to be a problem. It means that Korea that has passed through five thousand years of history without losing its nation, is a problem. How much would it have endured, and how much would it have thought?
Seen in this way, if one looks at them as nations that have not held a religion, it means that it is Korea and China. Of course religion came forth before Jesus, but the Jewish nation has come forth carrying on its tradition centering upon what is called Judaism. Seen from such a perspective, it means that one can draw the conclusion that a nation that has such a character as one that has not believed in religion will without fail remain in later generations.
Moreover, it means that among religions too, a person who holds such a notion and endures more and thinks more deeply remains. And while doing so, they are a homogeneous people, a homogeneous people.
Seeing such a thing, the nations of Europe are all brother nations, are they not? They are all brother nations. It means that such nations, which all join together, spread out horizontally. It means that because they join, it becomes so. That is why they come to marry at will. Seen from such a perspective, a nation like China or Korea…. It means that among such peoples the nation that can be most trusted is the Korean people. And next it is the Jews, the Jews. It means that the Jews, if a Gentile only received circumcision, would treat him as a Jew.
Seen in this way, it means God carries out Providence through religion, and what has He taught? Endure! Endure! Endure and forgive! Overall, it means those words. Be gentle and humble! What those words mean is “endure and bear.” It means think deeply. It means that it gets through.
Going further, Christianity has held God’s mainstream because of “Love.” Love! It means do not hate one another but love. Love one another! It means that it is one step ahead, one step. That is why it means that we can find, from such a perspective, that God can press forward such a worldwide Providence centering upon Christianity. It means that since God Himself had all His children taken away by Satan, this Satan is an enemy.
That is why it means that without standing in a position where one can love this enemy, the Providence of Restoration is a failure. It means that one cannot complete it. Is that not so?
How much must one endure and how much thinking must one do to love this enemy?
All of you, consider that. One must love. One must love. So, all of you think that you have an enemy. There is a daughter of the enemy whom that enemy loves most, and it is like the Providence of Restoration that one brings that daughter and loves her more than anyone in the world, more than the beauty of any nation, more than any beauty of one’s own nation. It means that one must take the enemy’s daughter as one’s wife and make her a wife whom one loves more than anyone, whom one loves more than the people of any nation. Only then does one cross one step of the Providence of Restoration. It means that only then is it completed, completed. It is completed before God.
Do you understand what it means?
It means that without God’s thinking, such a thing He cannot complete the Providence of Restoration. It means that there is no road but that. If there were a road apart from that, God too would take that road, so why would He take this road? Is this an easy road, this? So what thought would come, what thought? Such deep thought. What thought would come?
Seen centering upon religion today, religion came forth from such a position of enduring and being for others more than ordinary nations. It means that it came forth forgiving, and being tolerant, and enduring, and thinking much. It means that one must think much. That is why one thinks from the individual, centering upon the nation and the world, centering upon heaven and earth. It means that one thinks deeply. It means that one endures long. Do you understand?
That is why it means that the conclusion comes out that such a religion as endures long and thinks deeply will rule the world. Why? It is because God is so. Inasmuch as God without fail does such work through religion, as long as God is so, the more a religion is such, the more it will rule the world and complete God’s Providence. Does it seem so? (“Yes.”)
God, Who Holds Interest in the Unification Church
Now, seeing such a thing, where is such a religion?
It means, where is such a religion? Where? Christianity?
Does Christianity move the world and think beyond everything now? It thinks, having abandoned the world. It means that it is now thinking, having abandoned the world. It means that it cannot become a Christianity that seeks to digest the world. It seeks to isolate itself, does it not?
Now then, is God isolated from the world and everything? It means that He is not. It means that God is not so. He seeks to save the world, does He not? Moreover, even looking at Islam, it means that, centering upon Muslims, they say, “Let us do it centering upon ourselves.” It means that they do not think of the world.
Moreover, it means that it is the same with Buddhism too. It means that until now they have not gone out into society and been active. That is why, if there is a religion that says it will endure and be tolerant and, while thinking deeply, will love for the sake of the world, it means that God will necessarily take up and use such a religion.
And while doing so, it digests. It digests even the enemies of the world. Where is such a religion? What about our Unification Church, the Unification Church? It means that what the Unification Church beholds is that. It means that. It means precisely that. It means that you must know that it has that as its goal.
Now, as Reverend Moon appears in the Western world, the Western world opposes him and all that, but am I seeking to be digested, or am I seeking to digest? (“You are seeking to digest.”) So would that be easy or difficult?
If it were easy, it would mean that I would have finished it all already without enduring. It means that I think it would all have been finished. That is why one thinks to digest it. It means that when one is indignant and aggrieved, one thinks. Do you understand?
So it means that you, who do not think, on hearing the words of the Teacher who thinks, say, “Ah, that is right.” Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”) It means that the more persecution there is, the more one is a person who thinks much. It means that persecution is not a bad thing.
It means that if we digest England, we come to digest America, Western society, even the communist world, and even Satanic hell, even hell. It means that if one believes as firmly as iron and stone that one will digest even hell and acts so, the communists are naturally digested.
If one thinks of that, it means let us think even beyond what God has until now not been able to endure and not been able to think. So it means that you are persecuted every day and every day find it difficult to endure…. It means that Unification Church members are told to go a road every day that is difficult to endure. Then it means that God’s mind will be there. Would He watch, going, “Wow, wow, wow—” or would He not? It means that the conclusion comes out that if there is a God, there is nowhere for Him to hold interest but the Unification Church.
Since God thus holds interest, would the countless spirit individuals of the spirit world hold interest, or would they not?
Since Heaven and the spirit world are all like this, and since this earth is like a shadow of the spirit world, it means that the earth too holds interest. It means, why do they hold interest even while hating the Unification Church?
If they opposed, if they opposed once, they ought to leave it off, but it means that they oppose and then wait and see. It means that they oppose again and again, wait and see. It means that they do it again and again and again, though one thought they would not wait and see. Still, one thought they would oppose and leave off—they oppose and wait and see and do it again. It means that that is splendid. It means that that is splendid.
Seeing that, the more they oppose, what at first was like this (he spoke while gesturing) keeps coming to be like this. It means that it has been reversed. It means that what was striking down from above gradually comes down like this.
If it becomes like this, it goes up. It means that on the day it becomes like this, it goes up. So it means that the Unification Church goes up. It means that it goes up. It is just as America fought with Reverend Moon and went, “Oh dear, oh dear, this…” and now it becomes so in England too, this. It means that they made a great to-do about Reverend Moon’s coming here and all that and then took a blow. It means that the American people are such a crowd that does not think that they thought that if they drove out Reverend Moon, the American young people would all…. Not at all. It means that they are people who do not think.
It means that even though I am here now, even though the New York Times and all of them go on day after day while I am here, it is the same. It means that it is the same. It means that they do not know that. It means, so how many people who do not think are they, this? It means that even though I am not in America, the newspapers oppose it like that every day. It means that it is the same in England. If I now return to Korea, would America not know? It means that it is the same, the same. Do you understand?
It means that. All of you, you now know all the Unification Church Principle. Did that Principle come out from the Teacher’s thinking much, or did it come out from just ordinary thinking? (“From thinking much…”) That is why it means think much of what is public. It means that you must know that a person who thinks much of what is public concerning the world or Heaven remains in God’s world. It means that a person who receives much suffering publicly without fail leaves a tradition in history. It means that this is historical proof. It means that one is thinking of the problem of the world, or the problem of religion, or the problem of humanity, all of it. Do you understand what that means?
And what the world must do, and what Europe must do, and what must be done about the communists, and what must be done about Africa, all such things…. It means that one thinks that one goes by the most valuable and best road. It means that God too thinks such thoughts. It means that on the day one goes by, doing so, even if one told God not to cooperate, He cooperates. It means that such a conclusion comes out.
In Enduring and Thinking Deeply There Is No Downfall
Now, does it seem that our Unification Church goes such a road, all of you? (“Yes.”) What is “yes,” what is “yes”? Is it all right even though you go out every day and go about being reviled and despised? (“Yes.”) It means that in a single day you experience people of several classes, countless people, countless tribes, countless peoples. It means that you experience that.
Yet it means that if one goes about without thought, it flows away. It means that one must become such a person who can digest that. One must think, “Wait and see three years hence. And next, wait and see six years hence. And next, wait and see ten years hence. It does not vanish. Wait and see ten years hence.
Today I go out from your gate driven like a loser, driven out in a position of bearing sorrow, but ten years hence your family will be the loser before me, and you will see a day of brightness from a sorrowful position.
If you oppose so, I will do anything diligently to be better than you in whatever it be. I will make effort. I will be better than you; I will not take revenge for my having been opposed and been indignant and bitterly resentful. Ten years hence, twenty years hence, I will quickly cultivate a foundation and, through that foundation, bring you to submission.”
It means that it is so with the Teacher too. Though I was opposed by all the Korean people, I did not speak to anyone. It means that without speaking, before that nation that opposed me, I thought, “I will go abroad and cultivate a foundation and bring them to natural submission on a worldwide plane.” It means that in order for that one does more diligently than you and makes more effort than you. It means that one endures.
Then why does one endure in enduring? It means that enduring is cultivating a foundation. It means that I must cultivate a foundation better than yours. Do you understand? Why must one think deeply? To be better than you, to guide you…. One must offer devotion more than anyone and think more and make more effort….
That is why it means that persecution is not a bad thing. It means that it is all profit. It means that one will absorb it as such an action that rears me. It means, how fearsome a thought is that? It means that they persecute because we have no ability and no foundation; if one had strength and a foundation greater than theirs, would they persecute? It means that even if one told them to, they would not. Is that not so? (“Yes.”) Why do they not persecute? It is because one is better than they. If one had no foundation and fought, one would simply disappear oneself; what else? Which of these is right, you people here? You must know that.
The more we receive persecution, why do we endure? It means that in enduring there is no downfall. Why must I think deeply? It means that hereafter I must guide these people for a certain period. It means that I must teach them. That is why on the day one is victorious, the enemies disappear. It means that there is no one to fight. It means that there is no adversary to fight. It means that they completely submit.
So one treats those people as equals. It means that on the day one treats them as equals, the fact that one has loved them, that one is loving them, is proved. It means that they too think that you love them. Do you understand? It means that an ordinary person would cut off their neck and do everything, but the Unification Church treats them like the very last person, and yet…. It means that they completely submit. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”)
It means that the Teacher is a person of fiery character. It means that the Teacher is not an ordinary person. It means that he is a fiery person. Still more, when he sees people who are not right, it means that he cannot endure it. It means that he is of such a character.
If I had fought like that in Korea, what would have become of it?
Would I have come as far as here today? Would I have met you? (“No.”) So it means that all sorts of rumors have gone about, saying, “Oh dear, Reverend Moon is a fearsome person,” but it means that they do not know. It means that they do not know what sort of person Reverend Moon is. It means that if I had fought with such people, it would all have gone wrong. It means that Reverend Moon would have gone all wrong. It means that because he does not fight, no decision is reached. It means that the Unification Church is a riddle of an organization. Then has it been decided that this organization is such an organization? It means that it has not been decided. Do you know why that is? It is because Reverend Moon is not fighting openly and publicly….
The Unification Church, Which Has a Responsibility to Save Those Who Would Take Their Lives
It means that because we have now cultivated a worldwide foundation, this will not do. It means a fight centering upon this American Congress. Since one fought and pushed this right out, they say, “Why is this like this, this? We shall have to come to our senses,” do they not? It means that one does not fight in a low place with a low person.
If one were to fight with the communists…. It means that if I did not fight with the communists, I would not receive persecution either if I stayed still. It means that that does not mean that one carries on such a play of killing with a sword. It means fighting with ability. It means fighting theoretically. Fight fairly and squarely. It means that one is fighting to teach what is wrong. It means that it is enough if one fights only at such a time.
That is why it means that I have been giving such instructions since 1976. It means that it is not to make them perish. It means that it is a movement to save them, that it is to save them. It means that one must knock down the fellows who seek to take their lives and drag them in from the world and do this. It means that this is love. It means that one must even break their legs. It means that even so, it gets through. Heaven too publicly acknowledges it, does it not? It means, would the Unification Church stay still while the world all perishes? It means that we save the world. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”)
All of you, among the world’s humanity at present, there is an average of a thousand who take their lives a day; a thousand such deaths occur. Do you understand that? Among these people who seek to take their lives, the rate of success by taking medicine is ten percent. It means that one person in ten dies. What this says is that ten thousand people a day attempt it. What would it be if such people had heard the Unification Church Principle?
What would it be if they had all learned the Principle?
If one said, “Hey, before you die, hear the Unification Church Principle once and then die,” and they said, “Then, so that I may have no han before dying, I will hear the Unification Church Principle once,” and heard it, what percentage would die? How many do you think would die? What percentage do you think would die? In your opinion, what percentage do you think would die? Consider it.
What do you think it would be?
If one thinks of that, how important our responsibility is…. Consider how serious a problem it is, how grave the responsibility is to let them know this quickly by whatever means. It means that in a year, three million six hundred thousand people seek to take their lives. And if it continues, it means that rate keeps increasing by geometric progression. How miserable is this? You must know the fact that a miserable history lies across the way.
That is why I see that a time has come when we cannot but protest to our government, and protest to the world, and protest to all the churches. It means that it is so toward religious leaders too. Is that necessary? (“Yes.”)
In that sense, you must divide up the three hundred and sixty houses and hold such a conviction: “If there is such a person in this place I visit, I must prepare beforehand; I must notify them quickly.” It means that one must feel the responsibility that if such a person had met me and talked for just one hour, he would not have died. Who must take responsibility for these three million six hundred thousand a year who seek to die?
Reverend Moon must take responsibility. Would they accuse us, saying, “If you had taught me what you know, I would not have died; why did you not teach me?” or would they not? It means that driving you with a beating is normal. It means that sacrificing you and making you suffer is normal. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”)
Still more, it means, what sin have the young people who are like your younger brothers and sisters, the young people of England, if it be England, committed?
What sin have they? It means that they are people with no sin at all. When one sees that, because society is evil, all those people, having come out into this world, receive the influence of the evil world and become entirely useless goods and rubbish bins, you must know the fact that this is a matter of urgency by the day.
It means that if you have had such experience, you must say that for the sake of later generations you must not make those people undergo such suffering…. It means that only when there is a person who says he will brave the suffering and take responsibility for this does that nation survive. It means that the world has hope.
Not only that, it means that ten or twenty years after you, your sons and daughters get caught in that noose. It means, who takes responsibility for that? It means that this is not someone else’s business. It means that it is my business, my business. It means that you must know how miserable it will be twenty years hence. Consider once how appalling it will be. It means that fifty percent, fifty percent of humanity, will hang upon that. It means that one must think of such a world. It means that it is time-sensitive, urgent. It means that there is no time.
It means that one must prevent such a play even by turning them right round, even by kicking their shins, even by beating them. It means that one grabs them by the collar and drags them in and tells them to listen to this once. It means that if one can save them by doing so, it is good even to do that. It means that without doing so, one cannot save them.
It means let us go, let us go, and one drives in about a hundred and says, “Let us go to hear the Word of the Principle.” Then what would become of it? It means that the people who were to die all come to life. Would they seize and imprison that as robbery?
Do you understand what that means?
Even so, it does not mean that one should do that. It does not mean that the Teacher says it should become so. It means that with one like a younger brother, one can drag him straight in and say, “You wretch, you wretch! Get in, you wretch! Come in, you wretch!” and it gets through. It means that if one grabs him by the collar and says, “What will you do, you wretch? Will you teach bad things to your younger brother?” that gets through.
Now, if one did so to a fellow who was going to take his life and kept him from dying, would his mother and father say he did well or say he did badly? All of you, consider it. It means that if the world says the Unification Church is good, if one brings even the mother and father who opposed and educated them and makes them go to the Kingdom of Heaven instead of going to hell, would that mother and father go to the Kingdom of Heaven and say, “Thank you,” or would they say, “Hey, you wretch, it became like this because you treated me so”? What would they do? What would they do? It means that I hold such a foundation. Is it bad because I did it while holding such a foundation? Do you understand? It means that it is not to make them perish, but to save them if one does so. It means that without doing so, how could one live this life…? Reverend Moon is now sixty years old, so what would he do?
The True Meaning of the Words “Love Your Enemy”
Now, if the Roman emperor had treated Jesus like this and all that, would Jesus have said, “Love your enemy”? It means that he would have carried on a policy of seizing the enemies and educating them and sending them to the Kingdom of Heaven; what love is love? It is restraint.
It means that though he loved Rome, those Romans went to hell. It means that until now countless Christians have all been opposed, but those who opposed all went to hell. Would they go to hell and say, “Ah, Christianity did well,” or how would it be? It means that they say, “Hey, you fellow, if you would love, it would have been more love to seize me and make me believe in Jesus.” It means, what is love? It means that they say that if they had been seized by force and made to believe in Jesus, they would all have gone to the Kingdom of Heaven. Would you agree with that, or would you not? Do you understand what that means?
Then why did Jesus say to love the enemy? It means that one must know this. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”) That does not mean that one should not love the enemy. It means that because one loves, one saves them. It means that that is what is called “love.” Do you understand what that means? It means that if one understands it wrongly, it is a problem if one understands it wrongly.
Jesus said, “If one strikes your right cheek, turn the left cheek too.” Yet if a younger brother strikes the right cheek, must the elder brother turn the left cheek? How does one do that? Must one, when he strikes the left cheek, turn the right cheek, and when he strikes the right cheek, turn the left cheek? Now, at such a time would God look on and leave it alone? When God looks, would He say, “Aha, that is truly something to boast of”? Would God say, “If he had done wrong, I would not know, but he did well, so why did it become like that?” or would He not? Do you understand what it means? (“Yes.”)
If a child tells his father not to believe in Jesus and strikes his right cheek, must that father say to strike the left cheek too? What sort of father is that father…? It means that one must know such a principle. Do you understand?
That is why it means that you must know that since one would cultivate a foundation within a short period and save the people of the world, one cannot but carry on such an operation. Do you understand what it means? (“Yes.”)
It means that your mothers and fathers seek to kidnap you, but because you have no foundation, it means that even when they kidnap you, you stay still. It means that if you witness to several hundred people, when your parents come to kidnap you, if people say, “Ah, your son or daughter is excellent,” would they kidnap you? It means, if you had such a foundation.
Do you understand what that means?
It means that because you have no such foundation, you are kidnapped. Would they come and kidnap you when you live better than your mother and father and have a greater foundation than your mother and father? It means when society trusts you and the nation respects you. When the nation welcomes you and the world welcomes you, it means: would they kidnap you if they were told to? Is that so, or is it not? It means, would they kidnap you when the Unification Church has the world’s foremost university and everything of the historical age cannot be done without the Unification Church?
Now Is a Time When One Must Urgently Cultivate a Foundation
It means that your suffering is not in order for Teacher Moon of the Unification Church to get ahead. It means that if Teacher Moon cultivates a foundation, you all get ahead. It means that it all becomes good. That is why it means that you must know that one cannot help but carry on this play. It means, however much one carries on this play, what is the use if there is no foundation?
Look. It means that I now seek, if possible, to go to Harrods and buy all good clothes for the people who visit England. Then it means that word will spread all through Harrods. It means that word will spread through all the tailors’ shops. It means that word will spread that Reverend Moon came and bought several hundred dollars’ worth of suits. It means that one does so as a matter of strategy, as a matter of strategy. It means that if more is needed, one buys even several tens of thousands of dollars' worth. In a place like London, several million dollars….
So, to what sort of people does one buy them?
If one bought them for people who are responsible individuals in the world, for people who suffer, would they say one did a bad thing or say one did a good thing? (The recording was briefly interrupted.)
Yet it means that I do not go about wearing good suits. It means that I wear just cheap ones, and if possible I do not buy at Harrods. I buy elsewhere. It means that I buy my clothes elsewhere and do not buy them there. It means that this too was bought by going to the cheapest place, going to the very end. It means that these clothes are Polish-made, Polish. It means that they are not English-made. Only then is the conscience, the mind, at ease. It means that one does not receive the reproach of conscience. Is that not so? It means that buying a several-hundred-dollar suit for someone is better than me buying and wearing a several-hundred-dollar suit. Is that not so?
Then it means that you will say such things. It means that you will say, “The Teacher came here and went about the market every day and then left.” It means that such an impression remains. Going to a Chinese restaurant and all that. It means that you say so every time I come. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”) That is why one must cultivate a foundation. One must establish a foundation. It means that I do so because I have cultivated a foundation; would that Teacher’s mind be at ease if one could not always do so for everyone?
If I bought about a hundred Mercedes here and distributed one each to the people who come into the Unification Church, would young people come in, or would they not? Then would your mothers and fathers tell you to go to the Unification Church, or would they not? It means, if one said one would buy even a house. What would it be if one said one would buy even a house?
It means that I shall come to London again, and if each time one bought a house for one person each day, if one bought a five-hundred-thousand-dollar house each day for one person who came into the Unification Church, would the young people of England all come in, or would they not? Consider it. If one bought a house every day, three hundred and sixty-five days, would the young people of England all come flocking, or would they not? It means that witnessing is unnecessary. It means that if one buys houses, witnessing is unnecessary.
If one did this for just a year, the young people of England, the students of Oxford and Cambridge and all of them, would pitch camp…. It means that one would make them pitch camp at the school.
Would it be so, or would it not? (“It would be so.”) It means that if that foundation came about, you would not have to witness. It means, ought one not to carry on a play of going to the Kingdom of Heaven while playing, rather than going to the Kingdom of Heaven after suffering? It means that it is the same. It means that it is the same with you too. Do you understand? It means that one carries on this play because one cannot help it, because one cannot help it. Does God do it because He likes it? He does it because He cannot help it, does He not?
Now, if it were said that houses the Unification Church has built are spread throughout the world, even if one told them not to come in, even if one shut the door, they would line up and rush in…. It means that they would wait, wondering what time tomorrow one comes. It means that they would line up from every nation. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”)
It means that it is the same with Christianity. It means that what has cultivated this foundation today, what is the Pope of Rome…. Have I no ability equal to the Pope of Rome? Have I no foundation? Do you think the Pope of Rome has ability, or do you think Reverend Moon has ability? Ask everyone in the world. Yet why are we like this? Gathering two hundred people in the morning, why are we like this? A foundation…. You must know that. It means that the Teacher is not always alive like this. It means that the Teacher is not always here. It means that in twenty years now I shall be eighty.
If the Teacher is not there, would it be saved if someone sought to save the world? Consider it. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”) That is why it means that it is urgent. It means that you are busy, but I am busy too.
God’s Making One Receive Persecution Is a Telling to Cultivate a Foundation Quickly
How was it until now? What does one do while holding the notion of enduring and serving and sacrificing? It means: do not hold such a thought as that one must be opposed by them entirely; that this is our living. It means that one must think, “My sacrificing and serving and enduring is to cultivate a foundation, to rule the world.” It means that one must have a foundation. It means: my enduring without a word is because of such a thought; it is enduring for the sake of the future; it is enduring for the sake of humanity. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”)
If you were persecuted by your mother and father, you must have a foundation stronger than the foundation of your mother and father; and if you were persecuted by the nation, you must have a foundation stronger than the foundation of that nation; and if you are persecuted by the world, you must have a foundation stronger than any foundation of the world. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”) It means that God is so.
That is why, if even a penny comes in, the Teacher prepares this. It means that if there is money you have earned by suffering, even a penny, one prepares this. It means that one cultivates every foundation that can move the world, that can become a matter of consequence. That is why it means that a penny left over, even when you are hungry, is necessary, and a penny earned by shedding sweat is necessary. It means that one thinks so. Do you understand what it means? (“Yes.”) It means that a person who cannot endure and think deeply and leave behind a foundation becomes a loser; it means that Jesus too failed for that reason.
However much the Jewish people suffered and however much they endured and however much they thought deeply, if they had drawn in the Arab sphere and made a Jewish nation, that would all be….
It means that Unification Church members must quickly surpass the foundation of the established churches. It means that one must surpass this. Now, it means that we must make young people more excellent than theirs, and must make our outward foundation more excellent than theirs. Is that so? (“Yes.”) It means that though we are small, seen qualitatively, we are great. It means that those people are soldiers without guns. It means that they have no guns. Speaking of Christians, it means that they are soldiers, but they are the same as soldiers without guns. It means that when they face us, they cannot stir. It means that the quality is different. It means that we are practising as we speak. It means that the established churches only speak and do not practise. So the foundation….
That is why, if there is a church for sale, what must one do?
It means that Reverend Moon buys it all. It means that one buys it. Why does one seek to buy it? It means that one shows the people who attend that church that this church, which before drove out the Unification Church and opposed the Unification Church at its gate, has gone under, and that now, by my becoming its master fairly and squarely before them, the master is changed. It means that that is splendid. It means that one was opposed by that church’s deacon. It means that one buys the church in order to resolve the han of the Unification Church members. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”) And next, for the sake of a sphere of our power stronger than a Christian nation, than America if it be America….
That is why it means that I am directing all such work within America while I am here. It means that concerning such matters one must do thus and thus, and if one does thus, then thus…. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”) It means that as for the communists, one has already set up all the countermeasures against the communists….
Now, why would America hate and oppose Reverend Moon? The American theological seminaries too. Why, why would America oppose? (“Not knowing…”) It means that it is not so. It means that they do not oppose without knowing. They know, because they know all too well…. It means that they think that if this organization is left for just ten years, the State Department and everything, the whole of America, becomes Reverend Moon’s domain. And it means that they think that the young people will swallow up the whole of America. It means that they think so. Do you know that? It means that he is a famous person, Reverend Moon. It means that it is the same in England. It means that here the English intelligence service too is watching to see what Reverend Moon does. Does it seem they would not investigate that? It means that the FBI and the CIA know me too well.
It means that if America goes just a little further, what sort of change occurs in the FBI and the CIA is that they say that there is nothing but the Unification Church for bringing Christianity to life, and nothing but the Unification Church for blocking the communists. It means that it will be decided in the not-distant future. How? It means that they know everything about what Reverend Moon does in Japan. Do you know what instructions the Teacher gives in Japan? You do not, do you? You do not know what instructions he gives in Korea, do you? It means that though I am in England, I am not working only for England. Is that so, or is it not? (“It is so.”)
It means that. It means these words: “I will not lose to you who opposed me; I will cultivate a worldwide foundation.” It means that bearing that han of indignation with which Jesus endured, one says one will resolve the han with which God endured. Do you understand? It means that it is the same with you too. It means: do not become a person without backbone, a person without backbone. It means that the Teacher is a person with backbone. It means that he is a person with backbone. It means that it is not that sacrificing is the road we religious people go and that is good. It means that it is not. It means that it is not that serving and receiving persecution is the work religion does. It means that God’s making one receive persecution is a telling to cultivate a foundation quickly. It means that it is a telling to think well. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”)
One Must Become Not One Who Receives Sympathy but One With the Ability to Give Sympathy
It means that if only you held such a thought, the more you are persecuted, the more you develop and the wider you become. It means that you become wider. It means that the more difficult it is, the more one develops. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”) It means: think, “If you would oppose me several times over, do so. I will cultivate a foundation greater than the Teacher’s.” It means that one says to God, “O God, oppose me. I will cultivate a foundation greater than Thine,” telling God to oppose one. Do you understand? And so if I, who would be persecuted, cultivate a foundation and give it all freely before God, would God bow His head, saying, “Oh dear,” or would He not? If one brings and offers it to the God who persecuted one, if one simply gives it to Him unconditionally without recompense, what do you think God would be like? When He receives that, does He completely submit, or not? It means that He submits. Do you understand what that means?
If one cultivates a foundation greater than what Reverend Moon opposed and brings and offers it to Reverend Moon, would Reverend Moon say, “Oh dear, I am victorious,” or would he not? It means that it is the same. It means that if America opposed me, I will find a new America, find a greater America, and give it to you, and if England opposed me, I will find a greater England and bring it and give it to you. It means that it is the same with America and with England. Making England into one nation, and South America into one nation, and making Africa like this…. It means that one can guide America aright. Do you understand what that means? Do you understand that, or not? (“We understand.”) Will you hold such a thought from this morning, or will you not? (“We will hold it.”)
For that, it means that one must hold such a thought as, “I must go once to that African continent for the sake of righteousness.” It means that God is without fail together with a person who holds such a thought. It means that God is together with him. It means that even without praying, God follows me about, even without praying. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”)
It means that the fellows I taught in Korea, the fellows who all worked diligently for my sake, the fellows who received revelations and said they would do it even though they died if it was something the Teacher did—it means that they all fell away when I entered prison. It means that the people who fell away in North Korea went out and began to oppose, and I came to South Korea and again entered prison. It means that in the end, from a position where the people who opposed and fell away were all opposing, when they heard that I had entered prison, they came for a spectacle. It means that as I was going into the courtroom, somehow they found out and came in the morning and said, “He is still doing that. Look what he has come to. My having opposed him until now was right, was it not? It means that that is not forgotten even now. It means that there are many such things. Do you understand? It means that there are any number. It means, “I will make it so that from a position several thousand times, several ten thousand times more valuable than you, you will all submit; it is because of that that I make effort without sleeping, without resting.” That is why it means that in speaking, one speaks only after becoming more than that, and otherwise, one does not speak. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”)
In that sense, it means that Reverend Moon is a fearsome person. It means that he is a person with backbone. It means that they are absolutely not a crowd that goes seeking them to receive sympathy. It means that one goes when one can give sympathy; one goes having become one with the ability to give sympathy. It means that one absolutely does not go seeking them when one is to receive sympathy. It means that one goes seeking them when one can give sympathy. Do you understand?
It means that I have seen much of such a thing. Even so, later it meant that when that enemy’s son was studying, I sent money without his knowing it and had him study. It means that the later generation has no sin, the later generation. It means that the second generation goes the road we go.
Now then, what about those children? It means that although their father opposed Reverend Moon and opposed him entirely without condition, and Reverend Moon was their father’s enemy, even the enemy’s son comes to submit completely. Do you understand what that means? It means that the people who have until now been investigating us, and the people who think badly of us, all become friends as time passes. It means that such a foundation is necessary.
That is why it means that I am now founding schools and making newspaper companies and making media organs and carrying on all that play. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”) It means that I instruct a certain person to meet the president of a large German company and say that I will invest; thus, that I must buy stock, that I must buy twenty percent if it be twenty percent, and shall we do it or not…. Do you understand? It means that there is no money. What will one do? It means that one gives only the contract deposit, and in three years it is all paid. Do you understand what that means? It means that meanwhile I make you suffer to death. It means that it is a telling to do in three years all the suffering one would do in ten years. Is that welcome? (“Yes.”) Why? It means that a seven-year period is reduced.
Now Even the Nation Must Become Indebted to Us
Seen by such an actual state, consider how much the world would be saved. Was the Teacher’s doing so a good thought, or a bad thought? (“A good thought.”) Why, for what reason? It means that it is for the sake of the world and for the sake of God. Do you understand that?
That is why it means that for three years the Teacher goes about forgetting sleeping and eating. Shall we carry on with such a play, or shall we not? (“Let us do it.”) It is miserable even now, so how miserable will this be? Though my face has become like this and I have grown small like this without energy, when I resolve to go, I go, “Hmph, hmph” (making a facial expression). Is that so?
It means that these days Mother says my belly keeps sticking out, and it means, “Belly, keep sticking out.” Stick out this much at that time I will do so; I will do so steadily for three years. Do you understand what that means? Do you agree with that? (“Yes.”) Why, for what reason? It is to cultivate a foundation.
That is why it means that I think I will join together the top technology of German companies, English companies, and American companies, completely combine the technology, and become the world’s foremost king of industry. King of enterprise! It means that one must do so. It means that I think such thoughts. Do you agree with this? (“Yes.”) It means that if I say, “Let us go and build ships," one must say “Yes” and go. It means that one must do so. It means that it will not do to say, “I am going to build a ship…” Do you understand what that means? It means that I think such thoughts.
At Barrytown we made nets, and did I not make them the best? (“Yes.”) You saw it, did you not? It means that when one makes nets, one works like a fisherman. One does it by staying up all night, does one not? (“Yes.”) It means that you would have said so. It means that these things would have said, “Oh dear, since the Teacher is not here, we need not carry on this play. They say he has gone to England; oh, how good.” Today, fishing and all that—this year too there is a great bustle about fishing…. Did you meet such a teacher well or badly? (“We met him well.”) For what reason? It means that a foundation that would take ten years to cultivate was cultivated in three years. Do you agree with that? (“Yes.”) Thank you very much. It means that now you will know what the Teacher has been doing. It means that if he says he will do it, he does it.
When I came out like this, would my mother and father have told me not to go this road, or would they not? It means that the brothers said so too and the wife and children said so too and all of them said so. It means that even the school teachers, and of course the relatives, and even the nation, even my nation, opposed it and told me not to go. Yet it means that now it has come to a stage where even the nation must become indebted to Reverend Moon. It means that with these hands of mine, with this head, with this body, I cultivated such a foundation.
That is why it means that thought is fearsome. It means that spirit is fearsome. It means that what now sets my mind at rest is that the world is all before my eyes, that the world has now all come within my sphere of operations. Do you understand? It means that if one goes only a little further, the British prime minister will ask to meet me, and if one goes a little further, the Japanese prime minister will ask to meet me, and if one goes a little further, the American president will ask to meet me. It means that such a thing will come in the not-distant future. It means that even if I stay still…. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”)
It means that even though my face is ill-favored, when my thought, this traditional thought I hold, is excellent, when one cultivates a foundation centering upon that tradition, one becomes a great figure. Is that so, or is it not? It means that a man must not lament in society because he is ill-favoured. It means: do not keep thinking that one has become like this, that one is ill-favoured. It means only cultivating a foundation. It means cultivate a great foundation. It means that the women too must not lament because they are ill-favored. It means only having a foundation. Is that so, or is it not? (“It is so.”)
It means that you, you of the West, originally became like this after coming into the Unification Church, but originally you sought to marry among white people, did you not? Yet now that it has all become a foundation for making international marriages, you say, “I too must do it now,” do you not? If one said from the first that one would do it, would they not all have run away? It means that now it has all become common knowledge. The Unification Church joint wedding! It means, “Do you know how much Japan and Korea both opposed this?” It means that now, when one has made the foundation, the tradition, decidedly better than theirs, they say, “Oh dear, do it quickly, do it quickly.” For what reason?
One Cannot Match a Person Who Thinks and Makes Effort
When we held our joint wedding, when we did eighteen hundred couples, did it not become worldwide, the world? Which is better, holding a worldwide feast with the newspapers of every nation of the world making a great to-do, or doing it now like two pigeons toddling along while the wedding march sounds? Doing it in a corner of the village…. The newspapers of the world reported it and all that, did they not?
It means that there are many people who saw our joint wedding in a film and sent me letters saying, “Let me take part in the joint wedding of the Unification Church.” It means that it is tremendous. Consider that. How exhilarating is that? Crossing beyond nations, consider doing it once worldwide with about a hundred thousand couples. Consider whether the ears of the world’s young people would prick up like donkeys’ ears and they would say, “Oh dear, when will Reverend Moon hold a joint wedding of several hundred thousand?” or whether they would not. Would they say, “When will two hundred thousand people hold a joint wedding?” or would they not? It means that it is bound to be so. Consider it. Which would be better?
Now, so, would the whole world watch this on television through a satellite, or would they not? Consider it. Consider it, how it would be. It means that, doing so, when one holds up that photograph and boasts, saying we held our joint wedding, consider that one can say, “That is my feast.” How much would one boast to one’s sons and daughters? Putting out that photograph and saying, “How was it taken…”—when one looks at the whole photograph, it means that it is so. It means that it is so with one’s own sons and daughters too. At their wedding, it means, would that be splendid, or are these two like pigeons? Ugh…. Consider it: how astounding it would be.
It means that on the day the joint wedding becomes a tradition, women and men alike line up and wait like this. It means that even though one wishes to be married, one endures and endures, and, oh dear, let us endure again—it means that it is bound to become so. It means that a foundation is that fearsome. Do you understand?
Now, consider what it would be on the day when your saying, “Let us do fundraising hereafter more diligently,” becomes a tradition and becomes a foundation. Then would the young people become bad people? If one were equipped with such a foundation, would the young people become bad young people, or would they not? Consider it. For the sake of others, for the sake of the whole…. So you must know how great a work you are doing. It means that now it is nothing. “Oh dear, the Unification Church…” (He made a face. Laughter.) It means that you must know how great a work you are doing. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”)
It means that now you know. It means that even though they persecute, even though they drive one out, one goes. It means that people who live well perish because they are people who do not think. It means that that perishes. It means that you must know that. It means that it is taken away by people who think and people who make effort.
Even Though It Is Difficult at Present, If One Thinks and makes effort, one can escape that place
Now, among you, let the Germans raise their hands, the Germans. Lower them. It means that although they say Germany is foremost in the world of technology, it means do not talk big. It means that if there is a nation lesser than Germany, which, having received unjust persecution and been looked down upon by Germany, says it will develop beyond Germany, Germany loses. It means that one loses to a nation that endures and thinks much. Do you understand what that means?
For example, it means that in bearings, in ball bearings, Germany has prided itself on being foremost in the world. It means that it has regarded a nation like Japan as laughable and carried on a policy of cutting the price of everything. Yet because the Germans do not think and the Japanese think, it means that in the not-distant future, within a few years, they will completely catch up with Germany.
It means that Japan now makes goods better than Germany’s at less than two-thirds the price. That is why, even when the judges of the EEC gave judgment, in the end did they not completely fail to lose? It means that when Japan went into Western society and was completely disregarded, they gritted their teeth and endured, endured without a word and thought. It means that by thinking, they completely overturned Western society. Cars and electronics and everything…. It means that these days even computers will be taken away in the not-distant future. It means that they will be completely taken away.
It means that in the East, it means that the Koreans must catch up with the Japanese. It means that this is the problem. That is why one builds a factory bigger than the Japanese, and even though one suffers, one suffers more. It means that for the Japanese, the adversary in every economic problem hereafter is Korea. It means that it is not America, not England, not Germany. It means that it is none of them. It means that it is Korea.
That is why it means that the Korean people have simply endured and thought for five thousand years.
It means that because there is such a tradition, a person like the Teacher came forth. It means that the Teacher is thinking that here, adding even our Unification Thought, on the day Korea rises, will it not become the greatest problem in the worldwide age? Do you understand what that means? It means that the Korean disposition is such that they are all like spies, spies. In investigating too…. It means that they are suspicious like detectives. It means that because there are such problems, they have remained until now a small and weak nation. That is why it means that Korea is a truly sensitive nation about the Asian situation and the world situation. It means that it is more sensitive than any nation.
It means that Korea stands at the forefront of the communist world and the democratic world and endures even the suffering of the communist world and the suffering of the democratic world. It means that I see it that on the day one endures that, knows how to endure, and thinks only of enduring, one sweeps the world. Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”) It means that if it becomes so, there is hope. Is there hope?
It means that if one looks at England, if one quietly looks at England, it has, this time, fallen to a third-rate country. They say Great Britain, but what is great, this? It means that it is Little Britain. What is it that is necessary before the English people, necessary for England? One must be able to endure the adversity of the world. England must be able to overcome this. It means that one sees whether it remains a people that can endure. It means that if England does not think and simply goes along with America, it perishes with a whoosh. Do you understand?
It means that the English people must from now on cultivate the strength to endure by which they can overcome whatever difficulty of the world. It means that if one overcomes that and makes a people that can think centering upon it as the hope of the future, though the land of England be small, it becomes a nation that can lead the world, the foremost nation in a second-generation Europe. It means that otherwise there is no hope.
That is why it means that the Unification Church is now sowing all the thoughts of the Unification Church here in England, to see how it is. What of the Unification Thought? It means that I think that if they accept it, they become a people that can rise again worldwide. It means that just as the young people of America, the theological students, all did, the English people must go out into the world and carry on this play. All such thoughts…. It means if they would persecute, let them. It means that I see it as a nation equipped more than any nation for a worldwide cultural sphere to rise. Is all that right? (“Yes.”)
It means that if one simply says one lives well without thinking, one perishes. It means that one must follow the Teacher’s thought. It means that my coming to England now and carrying on with this activity is because I noticed that this point has come, which can suit such a chance. It means that one carries on this play for that reason; otherwise, I would not stay here. A foundation—why would one establish factories for them, and what of schools? It means, “What is there to do here?” One would go elsewhere. Does it seem so, or does it not? (“It is so.”) Let the English raise their hands. Now, here there are Africans, black people too. Lower them. It means you Black people do not grumble that you are persecuted and that it is hard. One must endure and think, must one not? It means: do not become people who do not think, you Africans. It means that if one cannot do that, one falls into misery forever. It means that if one cannot think, one can never escape that place. It means that God does not help either, and the world does not need one either.
Now, it means that though the people of the world all say they dislike Reverend Moon, because he is a person who endures and thinks he does not perish. It means that the young people are bound to follow.
All of you, you need the Teacher, do you not? (“Yes.”) What do you need? What do you need? It means that you need him because when you cannot endure, there is a road by which you can endure, and you need him because when you cannot think, there is a road by which you can think. Do you understand? (“Yes.”) For what reason do you need the Teacher? It means that you need him because he holds subjective content that can make one do greater thinking in preparation for that. It means that, otherwise, he is unnecessary. It means that there is a president of your nation too, like this, and there is a prime minister too, and there are school teachers too, and there are all of them, and there is a company president at the workplace too, and all of them. So what do you need him for? There are many churches too, so it means, what would you need?
It means that it is being able to endure and follow; it is going while enduring. It means that otherwise they would all run away, but one needs him because he holds that power that can make one go while enduring this.
All of you, would you carry on with this play if it were not for the Teacher? You would have run away, would you not? It means that because of the Unification Church, one can endure even what is more difficult, and if there is something more difficult, because of me…. It means that when there are difficult things, one needs the Teacher because we can think as far as a world that others cannot think of. It means that, otherwise, he is unnecessary.
That is why it means that the Teacher can make you suffer. It means that Reverend Moon does such work. Do you understand? It means that he is different from established church members. It means that the Unification Church is necessary because there is something the established church members cannot do. Do you understand? (“Yes.”) So, now you know, do you not? Now you know it all, do you not?
The History That Brought About the Result of the Fall Through Not Being Able to Have Patience and Deep Thought
Then let us find out once how much this effect, if one does this, how much that efficacy reaches into history. Look. If Adam and Eve had endured, would they have fallen? If Eve had endured a little, would she have fallen? (“She would not.”) Moreover, if she had thought only a little, would she have fallen? (“She would not.”) It means that even though Eve fell, if Adam had otherwise thought only a little more, Adam would not have fallen. It means that if Adam had not fallen, it is simply have been restored. Consider how easy it would have been. Would it not be so? (“Yes.”) It means that if they had endured only a little more and thought only a little more, they would not have fallen. Would it be so, or would it not? (“It would be so.”) It means that in that period, even if you sought to witness, one would not have you do it, would not have you. It means that one would not have you. (The recording was briefly interrupted.)
If Noah, after the forty-day judgment of the flood, had thought only a little, if he had not done that act of being naked. If he had thought even a little, would he have carried on that play? If he had endured only a little, having drunk liquor? Is that not so? If he had endured only a little more and thought only a little more, it would mean that he absolutely would not have carried on that play.
Moreover, when Abraham offered the offering, if he had endured and quietly looked and thought before the threefold offering, would he have made a mistake? It means, why did he split two of the three offerings and not split one? Is that not so? (“Yes.”) Moreover, if John the Baptist had endured only a little about Jesus and thought a little more, would he have opposed? Jesus too—what would it have been if Jesus, instead of beginning his public course at the age of thirty, had begun the course of his public life at forty? Why is there to go to the established churches and make a great to-do and do all this? If he had stayed still…. Is it not so with Moses too? It means, would he have struck the rock twice if he had thought only a little, if he had endured a little? Do you understand that?
Now then, what do you think?
It means that it is so with Reverend Moon too. It means that it is the same with Reverend Moon. It means that because I knew such a thing, in Korea I did not go out to any official occasion. It means that I absolutely did not appear in public seats. It means that the Teacher now appears in public seats and does this, but until 1971 he absolutely did not appear in public seats. It means that he never held an official meeting. Do you understand? I did hold services at the church. It means that I did so in the Unification Church, but it means that on a national scale I absolutely did not. It means that it was to cultivate a foundation.
It means that, having cultivated the whole national foundation, one could then go on to a worldwide foundation. Thus, at last, in 1971, I went to America and appeared in official settings.
It means that on April 30, 1973, I received permanent residence, and from then for three and a half years, until September 1976, this is exactly three and a half years. Is that not so? Now, it means that in America too, I cultivated a foundation. It means that in 1972, going around the whole of America, Reverend Moon completely cultivated a foundation of victory.
When was it that I held the London rally? It was 1972, was it not? 1972. It means that at that time one must introduce this Reverend Moon to every nation in the world. If one sees England as an Eve nation, America is an Adam nation, and Germany is an archangel nation. It means that one went to these three nations and did it.
That is why one fights centering upon America. It means that one works centering upon America. Is that not so? It means that we cultivated our whole foundation. It means that since one has done the responsibility toward this America, one now does the responsibility toward England. It means that one does it for four months, for a hundred and twenty days. Now, in that period, what influence does Reverend Moon give to this England? Does he appear as a bad person, or appear as a good person? (“As a good person.”) Is England so arranged?
That is why it means that one must gather all the Europeans here and, centering upon this London, advertise that Reverend Moon is good and the Unification Church members are good. It means that one cultivates a foundation, a foundation. It means that you hear nothing, but the rumors are of a thousand shapes and ten thousand forms. Reverend Moon before the whole of London…. It means that when one sees that, though one thought that after suffering and enduring, he would not know how to speak, when one sees him speak, it flows like a mountain stream. Like a waterfall…. It means that such rumors all go around.
Still more, this time, when one meets the theologians and all the established church pastors, it means that the pastors will all meet me and say, “Hey, I thought Reverend Moon was out of his mind, but only the smart ones have gathered in the Unification Church; there is not one such young person in our church. Reverend Moon is better than I; Reverend Moon is happier than I.”
It means that they say, “Well, let us see how long it lasts. It will not last even six months.” And after six months they say, “Let us see whether it lasts three years.” It means that if only three years pass, then they reflect. It means that they all reflect on having opposed the Unification Church, saying, “I opposed the Unification Church, but it is not the Unification Church I thought it was.” It means that you become the requisite for their reflection. It means that it does not grow gradually smaller but grows gradually larger. It means that they say, “Oh dear, it was only the theological students who came from Korea who were like that, and now another such fellow has appeared in our village too; oh dear, in our village it is one. Ah, in our village it is two, three, four, five, six…” and so on. The day it becomes only ten, they completely melt. Consider it becoming only ten each. What becomes of it? Consider whether England will live or perish. Consider whether Reverend Moon will prosper or perish.
It means that one does light a fire with a match, but once the fire has caught, the match is unnecessary. It means that one can light a fire anywhere. It means that it is the same.
It means that at first, when the fire is catching, if the wind blows, it is a great trouble, but once the fire has caught, the more the wind blows, the better. It means that the more it blows with a whoosh, the better. Do you understand what that means? It means that one thinks so.
It means that they are now saying, “Let that house be struck by lightning, be struck by lightning,” are they not? Is that not so? It means that this absolutely does not disappear. It means that it does not disappear from London’s history. It means that you must know the fact that it has become an event that does not disappear from London’s Christian history. So it means that if one pulls with a jerk, Christian history is dragged along. Do you understand? And so, since one lights the fire, it catches on the hair, and, “Oh dear, oh dear,” here and there and everywhere…. It means that one is carrying on that play. It means that doing that, it catches here and everywhere catches; everywhere catches. It is so here too, is it not? (“Yes.”)
Only a Person Who Endures and Thinks Can Inherit the Tradition of the Unification Church
That is why it means that if one only does a little more, they keep coming to catch…. Is this evidence of perishing, or evidence of prospering? (“Of prospering…”) Despite this, it means that you say, “Oh dear, this is hard…” One must endure and endure. It means that fellows who fall away in such a situation all come to perish. It means that it is the same in the old days and now. One must know this clearly. One must endure and think. It is not that one does not think and does not endure. It means that without thinking, there is no need to endure either. It means that one endures while thinking, and thinks while enduring. It means that if it becomes so, you will without fail become a successful one. It means that you will without fail receive public acknowledgment in history. It means that because God is so, such people will without fail receive God’s cooperation and present a global problem. It means that they will present a problem of goodwill and accomplish a new world. Now you understand, do you not? (“Yes.”)
And while doing so, it means that in one’s thinking, one should say that I am happier than you. It means that when they eat and live and dance, one should think in one’s mind that that too has a value of happiness. Moreover, one must think that I am happier than those who live well, than you who oppose, than that lady, than that master. It means, why, for what reason, is one happy? It means that one seeks to save the people who are dancing. Moreover, one seeks to save the ladies who live well. One seeks to save the president or the prime minister of this nation. Do you understand what that means?
It means that your boasting and your arrogance and your opposition now will all vanish at once, but my being opposed becomes, as the days pass, greater and becomes the matrix of the power that can bring the whole to submission. It means that it cultivates my foundation. So it becomes a foundation that can bring them to natural submission, that can win a natural victory. It means that this is necessary in daily life too, and between friends, and absolutely necessary in dealing with people. It means that you must know that it is absolutely necessary in living. Do you understand?
If one accuses another between friends, does one like that?
One likes a person who endures and thinks of one, does one not? Mother and father too, when they look at their sons and daughters, seek to trust the sons and daughters who, even so, endure and think. It means that it is the same. It means that it is the same centering upon brothers too. It means, why do they seek to trust them? It means that you must know that history goes on relying upon that, that heavenly fortune goes toward such a place. Do you understand what that means?
What about our Unification Church?
In the Teacher’s view, through what sort of person…. It means that it is a person who endures and bears. It means: think of such a thing. It means that one thinks much, and when one asks him, even a single word he speaks is a word with thought. It means that only that person inherits the tradition of the Unification Church. Do you understand? Is that not so?
Seen worldwide, centering upon the Unification Church, if it is asked which nation inherits the tradition of the Unification Church, it means that a nation that endures and thinks, a nation with such a national character, inherits the tradition of the Unification Church. That is certain, is it not? (“Yes.”) Even so, a person who complains because that nation is set up is bad. It means that the Teacher himself sees it so. It means that God Himself sees it so. Are such words wrong?
That is why it means that when one would truly give a blessing, one drives oneself into a difficult road. It means that is why one drives all the responsible individuals so. It means that if one only gives such instructions three times, one knows everything. It means that one knows everything about whether that fellow seeks to do a difficult thing or seeks to like it. Whether he does it properly, or does it by his means and methods, or does it unwillingly…. It means that if one does so, it is unfailing. Now you understand, do you not? (“Yes.”) For that, it means that at all times the mouth and the ears and the eyes…. It means that that is the secret. It means that the mouth one opens when necessary, and the ears one pretends not to have heard even after hearing…. It means that the eyes one pretends not to have seen. It means that in that Eastern thought, the ear and the mouth—it means that in my thinking, the eye has been left out here—must become king (王) for one to become a saint. (He spoke while pointing at what he had written on the board.)
It means that this is that one speaks eloquently, flowing like a mountain stream, but that one also does better than anyone in not speaking. It means that one must be equipped with all of it. It means that after becoming king, the more one closes one’s mouth, the more authority one has. Though words are necessary until one becomes king. It means that God has no words because He has become the king of the universe. It means that is why there are many secrets of the Way. Do you understand? It means that the Teacher here too has many secrets. It means that yesterday morning too I spoke about Mother of something I have not spoken of in my whole life. One thing, one thing. It means that one does not speak of the whole. Do you understand what that means?
That is why it means that what Sang Chul here says, “Ah, though I have attended the Teacher for twenty years, I do not know him,” is right. It means that only so is there a crowd that follows; if one knows it all, is there a crowd that follows? It means that it is so. It means that this is absolutely necessary in daily life. What does one do when locking the ears? It means locking the ears and locking the mouth, and it is all right to stick out the nostrils. It means that if one blocks this, it is a great trouble, but it means to close the eyes and pretend not to see even after seeing, pretend not to hear even after hearing, shut the mouth, and not speak even though one wishes to speak.
It means to hear everything, and when one thinks one must speak at this time, then speak. It means when one thinks one must see at this time, then see. It means that one does hearing and seeing all at once. It means that one completely shakes it off. It means speak at such a time. Do you understand what that means? It means act as if one has not seen even after seeing, and act as if one has not heard even after hearing, and act without speaking even though one wishes to speak. Why, why? To cultivate a foundation….
Now, women, shall I teach you the method of obtaining a good bridegroom? It means that one does it like this. It means that one acts while enduring and thinking deeply, locking the ears and locking the eyes. It means that if one does so, without fail an excellent husband will appear and say, “Please live with me,” and it means that you will not do so.
A Person Who Yields for the Sake of Others Is a Great Person
Now, if one thinks much, one will without fail develop. Would that not be so? It means that you need not put on make-up. It means that however one binds ribbons in one’s hair, and the clothes, whatever they are, it is good. It means that anything, whatever it is, is not a problem. It means that none of it is a problem. Does it seem so? Does it seem so, or does it not? (“It seems so.”)
Now, our male fellows too wish to obtain a good bride, do they not? (“Yes.”) It means that it is the same, the same. Why do I speak such words today? It means that our Unification Church members, when told to serve and sacrifice, do it unconditionally, unconditionally. It means that without thought, it will not do.
What are the three hundred and sixty houses for?
It means make your own foundation. It means that one must know this. It means that one endures and makes effort and thinks much and hears all sorts of things and sees and endures. And so it means that they thought he was a person doing nothing whatsoever, and then he was an orator who gathered all the three hundred and sixty houses and spoke. It means that they say, “Hey, he was such a smart person.” It means that one shows that. It means that one shows that ability.
When I was in prison, when I was three years in the communist world, I did not speak a word. It means that they did not know that Reverend Moon was a ringleader who could ruin the communist world. What would have become of it if I had spoken? It means that they did not know it even in their dreams. Moreover, it means that our comrades did not know, even in their dreams, that Reverend Moon carried on such activity, because I did not speak. It means that our parents did not know either, because I did not speak. It means that our brothers did not know either. It means that I did not speak of it. It means I speak only when I have cultivated a foundation. It means that one speaks only after practicing and cultivating a foundation. It means that this is the Providence of Restoration. Do you understand? (“Yes.”)
It means that in doing restoration through indemnity too, one teaches only after practicing it oneself. It means that this is the road of Restoration.
Now, what are these words? Patience. Let us say it once. Patience, patience. (“Patience.”) And next, what is it? Deep thought, deep thought. (“Deep thought.”) It means that deep thought is thinking deeply. It means that it is not thinking once. It means that once one has spoken a word, one considers whether that word was wrong or right. It means that one analyzes it, and does all of it like this.
Now, one must know everything about how many times the eyes saw good things today and how many times they saw bad things. It means that one must know everything about how many times the ears heard good things and heard bad things. How many good words did the mouth speak…. It means you women here, put about five locks on your mouths. It means put three formations, growth, and completion- and put three on these eyes too—formation, growth, and completion—and put three on the ears too—formation, growth, and completion. Do you understand what that means? It means that on the day one does so, Heaven helps and everyone around you is for you. It means that it, without fail, becomes so. It means that they seek to attend to you like Mother and seek to attend to you like the Teacher. It means that it becomes so. Wait and see whether it is so or not.
It means that if the Teacher said to rise at six in the morning, everyone seeks the person who rises at half past five and works. It means saying who such a person is. It means that if one says to sleep at twelve, they seek the person who works past one o’clock, saying who they are. It means that such a person is a reliable person.
That is why it means that the Teacher was so in the old days too. It means that even when going to the workplace, I went earliest and worked latest. It means that I did such training. It means that if I am not first, it is unpleasant. In the end, the most precious…. It means that that person is the successor; that person becomes the master. Is that right, or is it not? It means that it is the same. It means that a person who, facing Heaven’s Will, rises at dawn and does this for a whole lifetime becomes the master. It means that he becomes the master of the heavenly kingdom.
Moreover, when one sets out a good feast table and says, “Come and sit, gather, they each seek to sit first in a good place, do they not? Is that not so? Yet if there is a person who stands there and yields and yields and at the very last goes and sits in the lowest seat, it means that that person is the master. Do you understand? And next, if one says, "Eat, eat the delicious things,” a person who rolls up his sleeves and eats this and eats that and puts everything into his mouth is a failure, a failure. Even in eating rice, a person who yields everything for the sake of others and does all this….
A Person Who Does Patience and Deep Thought Well Will Without Fail Succeed
It means that three of us were fleeing as refugees together with the Teacher. It means that because being hungry is the same for all people fleeing as refugees, as soon as the rice was cooked, they all simply wanted to eat. It means that all were hungry. Now, it means that I heard someone say, “I ought to put my spoon down once before the Teacher, but when I eat, since every single time the Teacher puts his spoon down first, I cannot win.” It means that at all times he puts the spoon down first. It means that being hungry is the same. It means that walking about for two months, all of them….
That is why it means that from then on, when the Teacher says Let us eat together,” they are afraid. It means that they all run away. It means that even when told to pick up the spoon first, they do not pick it up. And it means that if I put my spoon down in the middle, they all leave rice and put their spoons down in the middle. It means that that is what is great, that.
Do you understand what that means?
It means that that is great. It means that that is great. What sort of people are great people? If with this wretched spoon one only eats more than I, then next…. It means that it naturally becomes like this. That is why it means that when mealtime comes, they always bow their heads before me. It means that they cannot lift their faces. Do you understand that? It means that there is such authority, authority. Do you understand? It means, what is it that makes it so? It means that there is no complaint there. It means that they do not complain. It means that it naturally becomes so. It means that there is such power. It means that there is power. It means that when one goes to Korea or Japan, they greet the Teacher and all that, but it means that the Teacher did not teach, “Hey, greet me.” It means that only so is it more comfortable. It means that only by sitting there like that is it more comfortable, and otherwise it is not comfortable. Do you understand? (“Yes.”)
That is why it means that one pretends not to know even after seeing. It means that even after seeing what was done wrong, one pretends not to know. It means that even while I live at East Garden, I know everything about who and what. It means that I know everything about their smashing dishes with a clatter and this and that, but I pretend not to know. It means that even after seeing, one quietly leaves it alone. It means that does not mean there is no authority. It means that even so, they all fear the Teacher; rather than fearing, they find it awkward, and it means that it is strange. It means that though I do not speak, they are all afraid. It means that they know everything. And it means that among themselves it is all right to do as they please, but as soon as the Teacher comes, they cannot do as they please. Do you understand what that means?
That is why you must know that in daily life the work of enduring and thinking deeply is necessary and action is necessary. It means that one thinks differently from the people who oppose. It means thinking on a higher dimension. It means that if one keeps this well, the Unification Church members will without fail succeed. It means that they will without fail succeed. It means that wherever one goes, one will be welcomed. If you become such people, and the people who receive such influence through you, one person, ten people, or twenty people, reach the people of the world...
It means that if you keep these words I have spoken today and succeed, ten or twenty years hence you will say thank you to the Teacher, saying, “I succeeded through hearing those words the Teacher spoke on that August 27,” will you not? Is that not so? (“Yes.”) It means that they are exceedingly important words. It means that I hope you will become such people with backbone, become subjective people, and certainly succeed. Will you do so? Let those who say they will do so raise their hands. Lower them. God bless you!
Words After the Interpreter’s Prayer
It means that today there is some rally, is there? (“Yes.”) It means that the other day I went and looked when it was raining, and it means that I went and looked and was quite disheartened. Will you do it like that again today? Has the band all come, the band? (“They have all come.”) So what songs will you do? What pieces will you do? (“Having accumulated much experience, we shall look at the situation and choose from among forty pieces.”) It means that if one does it splendidly and resoundingly, going “Boom pa ba bang—” and “Ta ta tan,” it would be magnificent. It means raise the pieces too by an octave if possible. Screech—It means that at that time one should blow so that the trumpet bursts.
And next time one does it, one must do it properly. It means that the conductor must do well. It means that when one does it outdoors, one must arrange the music. It means that unlike doing it indoors here, one must arrange the music. It means that at such a time the alternation between doing it strongly and loudly and then doing it softly must be quick. That is why it means that one must arrange the music, arrange the music. The soft parts one does short….
Activity Must Be Done in an Interesting and Thrilling Way
It means that people’s interest will not be there unless one does it like this. Hm! Hm! It means that only if one does it like this is there interest. It means that it is the same. Beating, beating with a bang bang, and going round once and all that, bang bang…. It means keep doing it. It means that one combs the whole ground. It means try doing that once. It means that everyone takes part. It means that if there are fifty, they all divide up, divide into east, west, south, and north, and blow away. Try doing it. It means that all sorts of sounds come out with a boom boom. It means, how exhilarating is that? Do you understand what that means? (“Yes.”) Only so is it exhilarating. And it means that the people who have come there dance and, hey… And then, having done that, it means that one must say, since one is winded, let us rest a little, and talk. It means that one must know such a thing and do it. Do you understand what that means?
It means that one makes them all winded. It means that next, since they are winded, one cannot but leave them still. It means that having done this, if one makes a noise for about thirty minutes, what is there to hear when one talks? That is why it means that the problem is how much the band harmonizes them there with music. It means that all the people there do this…. (He acted it out. Laughter.) It means that it must be so.
It means that only when such an environment comes about can one do something. It means that for that demonstration and rally one must organize the band. It means that one must arrange the music and do everything again, and the manner of doing it too a little differently, and do it thrillingly. It means that I do not know whether I shall go and look today. It means that I do not know whether I shall go and look or not. It means that if you all say you will come, I do not go, and if you all say you will not come, I go. So it means that they say Reverend Moon is interesting.
It means that even when the Teacher takes you to the mountains, he does not do one thing all day but does several things. It means that he does interesting things continuously all day. It means that is why they follow the Teacher wherever he goes. It means that they do not wish to go, even while staying up all night. It would be good to try such a thing here once, would it not? (“Yes.”)
It means that now the Teacher has grown old. It means that he has become an old person, so from now on he must become a little dignified. You are all young, are you not? It means that when one witnesses young people too, if they are sitting there, one can go and say, “You wretch, where did you come from?” and it gets through.
Look at his face. It means that because the German disposition is like this, if one says, “I thought you Germans had a strong disposition, so I did that to see what you are like,” it gets through. It means that all of that gets through. And it means that one says, “How much money is in your wallet? Let me see some German money.” It means that that gets through; it gets through. It means that one says, “I am out of pocket money.
Let us go and eat lunch together; since my money is little, let us put yours with it and go to a Chinese restaurant.” It means that it gets through. It means that if it becomes so, one witnesses while eating and this and that and everything. It means that one must know how to pass over so instantly. It means, when could one do this and that, and how would one do it? It means that that is necessary. And jokes too….
Reviewing him, one says, “Your beard has grown well, you wretch.” It means that even if one takes hold of his beard and speaks like that, he feels good. And the next one speaks of this. It means that one says, “What is bad and what is bad?” When kissing, what women dislike most is this. What is this, this? Having married, I found that women say so; you have not married yet!” It means that one instructs in this way. It means that method gets through. It means that all of that gets through. It means that it is necessary.
Witnessing Must Be Done Wisely, by Various Methods
It means that one must study how to make a person one has met for the first time a closer friend than a friend one has met for ten years, for a whole lifetime. It means that the Teacher thinks he witnesses so splendidly. It means that so in witnessing activity too, tripping up a person who is walking along and then helping him up and greeting him and all that gets through in the age of youth. It means that it is so.
It means that if a young fellow asks why one does this, one says, “Looking at you young people, you are made like a German, but what is that attitude? You look like a South Sea islander, so I disliked seeing it, and that is why I did it. Your face is a German’s, but what is this trifling thing? I think so. I like such a thing. Is that not so?” It means that it is necessary. It means that one pulls someone’s necktie too. It means that one pulls it and says, “What is this? What is this?” All of you, it means that one can do anything by pulling the necktie. If it is crumpled, one knows it is crumpled….
And next, it means that when one sweats, one must do it like this. It means that this gets through. It means that if one sweats, one must wipe it. Yet since there is nothing in my wallet, it means, what is bad about asking to borrow that? It means that if it is a fellow who cannot understand such a thing, it is of no use to witness to him. It means that it is so. It means that all of that, if one lives in the human world, humor is necessary and all that, is it not? It means that when a woman comes along, one says, "Good morning," and pulls her handbag with a jerk. She is pulled along; what else? It means that one looks at her face. It means that one can talk any amount while doing all that, so it means, why can one not talk? It means that I think there are any number of methods of witnessing.
And next, how does one do it? “How do you feel now?” It means that after this one witnesses, one witnesses. It means that one says, “In my view, you seem an intelligent and educated young lady of a distinguished house, and I wanted to find out whether such an expression comes out in a young lady or not.” And while doing so, one praises her, saying, “Hey, you of all people, what is your house like and what…?” And it means that when that woman goes anywhere, she at all times without fail thinks of that young man, does she not? It means that she says, “Hey, what sort of young man is that young man? Where would he be now? I should like to see him once again.” That is why, if one appears once at that place after about ten days or so, it means that she says, “Ah, there he comes. Good morning, good morning, Mr. Pak!” and greets him first. It means that then one can meet again at will.
That is why it means that witnessing can be done in various ways. It means that that does not mean it is bad. It means that one does not do it holding a bad mind but for the sake of that person, and one can do any amount.
It means that at some times, when one witnesses someone without a penny, when a lady comes along, one asks where she is going. It means that one makes a joke like this: “You are like the elder sister whom I loved most, and when that elder sister saw me, the first thing was buy me lunch. Seeing you, I think of my elder sister. I do have money, but please buy me lunch once to remind me of my elder sister.” It means that at this time, if she says, “Let us do so,” that woman is a woman with something in her. It means that one obtains lunch, too, in this way.
And it means that if one is hungry while going somewhere, if two people are eating in a restaurant, if a married couple is sitting there, it means that one goes in and sits and takes chopsticks and eats. It means, what is shameful about that? It means that I gave a great deal of such training in Korea. Now, go to Seoul from now on! Go to Seoul without a penny! It means that they all go to Seoul without a penny. It means that one says, “Even by telling lies, ride a train and ride a taxi and ride any sort of vehicle whatever, and come by such and such a day.” It means that such training is necessary. It means that at that time one must learn all such devices. It means that there are all sorts of plays, all sorts of plays. It means that such training is necessary.
It means that if one wishes to go somewhere and there is no car, one blocks the car of a person driving alone. It means that one blocks it squarely. Then the car stops; what else? And then one gets in and goes, saying, “Looking at you, you seemed about to doze. So it will not do. It would be a great matter. The way you were driving was already going this way and that, so it will not do. So I did this to drive for you. Zoom—It means that if one does so, there is no one who drives while dozing, saying, “When did I do that?” It means that it is so. Then it means that a play unfolds in which I ride in the car and see everything and can even go to a hotel and sleep. Do you understand what that means?
It means that because I did such training, even though everyone in American society opposes it, one carries on this play while they say, “What is this fellow?” It means that that is necessary. Do you understand what that means? It means that that does not mean that you all should do so. It means that when one does such a thing, one must know how to go and do so. Do you understand? It means that one must be practised in obtaining food too. It means that one must do such training. It means that when one is to fly, one must know how to fly, and when one is to run away, one must know how to run away. It means that even in running away, one must go splendidly. It means that one must know how to run away in such a way that they do not think other thoughts.
Moreover, it means that one must know how to carry on the play of a madman too. Is this a woman’s handkerchief or a man’s handkerchief? It means that one uses a woman’s handkerchief well too. It means that one must have the room to explain even such a thing. Oh dear, women, what….
That is why it means that the Teacher has played the part of a woman too many times, putting on a hat on a rainy day and…. It means that if one is to go into the communist world and play the part of a spy, one must do this play too. Do you understand what that means? That is why it means that the Teacher has a strong stomach.
When they revel, if necessary, even when one reviles, one pretends to have heard and not heard, seen and not seen…. It means that when they have reveled for a while, one talks of something else. It means that without opposing one's jokes, saying what one's wife is like. It means that one becomes friendly at once. It means that they think everything as they please, as they think. It means that one must know how to do such a thing.
That is why it means that the environment in which you now do fundraising and live is perfect. It means that you must know that it is perfect. It means that it is only because you do not know; it means that you do not know how splendid all of that is.
