Why did the term “Unification Church” come into being?

It came about because of the Fall. The reason that so many religions arose in such complexity in this world is that human beings fell, and the reason that sorrowful turns of events arise in your living environment and in the world of your emotions today is also that human beings fell.

In this way, you must know well that the source of all human sorrow is the Fall.

The Reason the Unification Church Appeared

Because Adam and Eve fell, the world could not become one but was divided. The world was divided, and Heaven and earth were divided. Beginning from the world of the heart centered upon God, division set in. There is not a single thing among all that exists that has not been divided.

When we look at things centered upon the heart, all are divided. Whether it be the word “love,” the word “faith,” or any word at all, there is none that has not been divided. And it would have been well had they been divided centering upon God, but they were all divided centering upon Satan.

If we take the overall pattern by which Satan, centering upon this earth, schemes against fallen human beings, and judge it in its totality, we conclude that Satan’s strategy is a strategy of causing division.

What is the Fall?

It is the game of causing division.

Therefore, what kind of protagonist is Satan, the very author of the Fall?

He is the protagonist who causes all things to be divided. That is why everything has been divided up until now.

Satan’s strategy is to drive things apart in pieces and scatter them in pieces so that they cannot achieve a single purpose; and against such a strategy of Satan’s, what kind of work has Heaven been carrying out?

Heaven has taken hold of the dividing work and unfolded a movement of unification. In place of the countlessly divided heaven and earth, Heaven has carried on, in ways unknown to others, a movement of bringing them together.

Until now, Heaven has spared neither toil nor guidance to make the countless divided tribes into one undivided form. Because it could not make the countless divided things into one all at once, Heaven set up countless leaders, ideologies, and religions, and presented a movement of restoration and unification. This is Heaven’s strategy.

Against this, Satan has, moment by moment, attacked the movement of bringing things together with acts of division and with destructive factors. This is Satan’s work.

When Heaven carries out the providence of gathering and uniting divided individuals, Satan has mobilized individuals to carry out the work of division.

When he could not divide by mobilizing an individual, he mobilized the family to divide, and he went on to mobilize organizations, nations, and even the world to attack Heaven’s strategy of bringing things together.

Then, if there is an enemy that pierces deep into our hearts, what kind of enemy would it be?

It would be the enemy that destroys and divides before the protagonist, who, for the sake of God, moves while embracing humanity.

We must know that this enemy is at once an individual enemy, an enemy of organizations, a national enemy, a worldwide enemy, and a cosmic enemy. All that this enemy wishes, lives for, and does is to keep things from becoming one.

The Right Life of a Unification Member

Then, if you call yourselves family members (식구) of the Unification Church, what must you think about?

You must think about by what means you will bring together this history, or this world, or this heaven and earth, which have been divided through the Fall. You must long for oneness.

Only when you become one who, with a heart that can be pierced by that longing, can stand as a single shield of heart and ward off the attacks of the myriad Satanic forces, can you be called Unification family members.

The family member of unification is the individual; the Unification Church is the whole. Therefore, every individual must become a multitude that lives pierced through with conviction, with grievance, and with an indignant heart capable of striking down Satan, who carries out the cosmic work of division, and the enemy who opposes Heaven as it seeks to rally this world into one. The multitude of unifications must become such a multitude.

Heaven seeks to gather not just one individual but countless tribes and the whole of humanity in this world; yet when we look upon this world from Heaven’s side, it is a wretched sight. There are religions not formed in a single age, but countless religions that have historical backgrounds, that have moved many sovereignties, and that have laid traditional and solid foundations.

From the standpoint of Heaven, which must without fail bring about a single world in the future, this is a wretched thing.

How are we to make of them a single religion in the future?

We must pull up their roots and make of them a single religion. If we cannot do that, then we cannot bring about a single nation; and when we cannot bring about a single nation, we cannot make a single heaven and earth.

Therefore, your family members of the Unification Church who go forward in the future in place of this providential history must hold the term “unification” in reverence, assert the value of unification in your lives, and, if the world can become one within the course of your lifetime, you must become a multitude that welcomes it even in your dreams.

Anyone who carries out divisive and destructive acts before the movement to become one is our enemy. You must bear firmly in mind the fact that Satan is using such a one as an arrow to kill you.

Until now, we have received individual arrows, family arrows, church arrows, social arrows, national arrows, and the religious arrows of Satan.

Yet we have survived to this day. Centering upon the name “Unification Church,” we have gone forward, equipped with a rallying point and a standard of goodness.

The Final Destination We Must Reach

Where, then, is the final goal toward which my self must go today?

It does not end with the name “Unification Church.” Setting up the Unification Church may be God’s temporary wish, but it is not His ultimate wish. It may be a stage on the way to fulfilling His wish, but that is not the final wish.

In my thinking, the purpose for which Jesus comes again to this earth is also not to unify some church, nor does he come to offer up a nation before the Father; he comes to offer up the cosmos before the Father. Beyond a unified church, a unified nation must be brought about, and beyond a unified nation, a unified heaven and earth must be brought about. And from the church there must be received a true owner who can govern this unified heaven and earth.

Such a leading person of responsibility, who can represent heaven and earth, is the Lord at the Second Advent. He is the figure God requires.

Then, who are the people most difficult to unify in the world today?

They are not the people who fight, divided into various denominations. Such people are those who are swept this way and that over a small portion of the truth—people with neither head nor tail. The ones most difficult to gather are religious people: religious people who believe in a providence or a Way.

When you think you must unify the many religions, you must know the fact that religion is not under any one sovereignty. There was a time when many a ruler held up sword and spear and gave commands, but their descendants invariably came to lament as they thought of such ancestors of theirs and wrote letters of surrender and offered them up. Religion is something that has such a history.

What is it that we Unification members must know today?

How must we go about it if we are to unify religion?

It can never be unified just as it is. Something must be shown.

First, one must show one’s own character.

Second, one must show a true religious life and conduct.

Therefore, one must possess a character that can represent some historic doctrine, thought, or ideology; one must live a life that can remain forever in history; and one must conduct oneself in a way that all the world can publicly acknowledge.

Unless one has the framework of a life that can express, sincerely and just as one resolves in one’s mind—not through hypocrisy or pretense—unification is impossible.

Then you, who stand in this present age from which hope has departed, this present day in which many currents of thought are entangled in complexity, this arena divided left and right in confrontation, must equip yourselves with such character, life, and conduct.

This is needed not by me alone but by religious people, not by human beings alone but by the creation as well, not by the creation alone but by the Creator who created heaven and earth. You must equip yourselves with such content.

Then, what kind of being is the representative who has equipped himself with such content?

He is a person of character who can communicate with all the circumstances of humanity. He is not a person who communicates only with the circumstances within some limited sphere.

Even though there are historic twists and turns, the hardships of an age, and whatever ruin may lie in the future, he is a person of character, equipped both within and without, who can stand in for the circumstances of the age before Heaven and can understand all the circumstances of humanity in their entirety.

Then, what kind of person must the King of kings, or the Messiah, whom Heaven sends, be?

He must be a person of character who can communicate even with historic circumstances and the circumstances of an age in their entirety.

This is the very one who concludes God’s six-thousand-year history of restoration and goes on to unify this world; and in that process, he is one who, receiving harsh hardship from his enemies, struggles, grasps the historic heart through experience (체휼), and can also enable all people to grasp it through experience.

Unless one becomes such a person of character, one cannot become the Messiah.

When one who has such content takes hold of me and comforts me, that comfort is not merely a comforting that takes hold of me. It is comforting that, together with historic han, it possesses an infinite standard of value as the substance of comfort for a single day. Only when you can feel such a thing can you meet that one.

To Unify This World

With the feeling of saying, “Center upon the stage of my life, be for my sake, and bring me happiness,” it does not get through.

When you vow and resolve before Heaven, you must not resolve and vow within the limited sphere of this present life or within the momentary sphere of an age.

You must pass through historic twists and turns, grasp Heaven’s circumstances through experience, make a new resolve, and say that you will take responsibility.

Unless you become such people, you can be no more than beings that move within a limited sphere.

Then, how must we go about unifying this world?

When we look, centering upon God, God too must have circumstances, heart, character, and a wish. The Lord is the one who appears upon this earth as the substance that can communicate with all such things, as the representative who can communicate with human beings.

You must achieve oneness of heart with that Lord. That oneness must be oneness regarding things of the past, oneness in the position in which one is presently placed, and oneness concerning the future as well. Without oneness, unification does not come about.

The unification spoken of here is not a temporary unification. It is an eternal unification. From the unification of living, you must achieve the unification of conduct, the unification of ideology, and even the unification of heart.

Through this period, you will have felt something new. You have made a new resolve before the Will, and you are moving nationwide for the sake of a single day of unification.

You are now moving as a single member of the Unification Church, but when it comes to whether you stand and act within the ideological sphere of unification that can represent the whole, centering upon the Unification Church, what do you think? You do not know, is the answer. You do not know.

Are you acting from a position fully converged in character and in ideology, offering devotion from a converged position, running toward some goal from a converged position?

Or, when the environment is harsh, are you overcoming it? When we come to consider this, there is probably no one who can be confident that he is acting upon a standard that has unified the Father, himself, and all the world as an unchanging and immovable substance before the fortunes of the cosmos.

What, then, must we do?

When one comes to feel that it is utterly impossible, what must be done?

Because we human beings are inadequate today, we need something that can take hold of our hands. We need a backing, such as the spiritual world, that can protect those who remain here.

Moreover, we need a backing that can vouch that I can stand within the cosmic ideological sphere of unification. The one who comes to supply that need is the Messiah. He is the Messiah, is the point.

Then, what must you do to equip yourselves with that need?

What is the standard by which one can form a bond of relationship with God or the Messiah? It is to give one’s whole mind, one’s whole will, and one’s whole devotion.

That you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind is the first commandment. You must love God.

What is love?

It is the wellspring from which God created heaven and earth and all things.

Therefore, however great a difficulty you may face, you must set up the absolute standard that this one thing at least shall not be violated. No matter what anyone says, you must set up the absolute standard that this one thing at least shall not be violated.

Only then, even though you cross beyond the foundation of the Unification Church and carry the fortunes of the unified nation, the unified world, and the unified heaven and earth, will you not be put to shame.

Therefore, if it is at all possible, Heaven seeks to set you up and form a bond of relationship. And so Heaven lets you be beaten. It also lets you be cursed at.

To make you quickly form a bond of relationship along the path you walk, it even has you do things you cannot do. It tells you to go ten li and a thousand li all at once. Doing one thing and then a second, it binds you up on every side. As I see it, this is how Heaven works.

The Teacher’s Purpose in Guiding

Heaven has promised to let us enter a place that all the world envies and that all heaven and earth can look up to. But to leap about now, delighted with what is good in this world, would be a great mistake. The distance to that place is far.

Therefore, because it is a course of restoration that must communicate with circumstances of every kind and conceivable form and go forward bonded with the whole of humanity, all manner of indemnity (탕감) is set. A bundle of injustice and a bundle of sorrow are loaded upon one’s back, and all manner of twisted circumstances are bound up entirely.

If the one who carries such a bundle and is bound up in such twists and turns collapses, the people perish, and heaven and earth perish.

Jacob, who stood before God as God carried out His providence centering upon a twenty-one-year period along the road of family restoration, is a pitiful man.

Since his life was one in which he had to look after even the circumstances of foreign peoples and foreigners, it was a forlorn thing.

The reason he was made to be in such an environment was to have him lay an unchanging foundation. He did not know that there was such an inner heart of Heaven behind it, but Jacob, knowing that when autumn comes the leaves fall, when winter comes the snow falls, and when spring comes something new arrives, lived on in silence, and in the end he was able to cross the crest of that difficult environment and take possession of the new, promised land of Canaan.

It was the same with Moses. To have Moses lead the people, Heaven seeks all the twisted circumstances of the people and binds them up. That is why Moses, during the forty-year course in the wilderness of Midian, longed even for foreign peoples.

Moses, who led the life of a shepherd, of course longed for the people of Israel, but he longed even for foreigners who had no relation whatsoever before God’s Will.

He said he would take responsibility even for the circumstances of foreigners. That is why he could lead the people of Israel and march toward the land of Canaan.

God carries out His strategy and works in such a way. He unfolds Heaven’s strategy after first giving thought to foreign peoples. Only thus can the work of Heaven unfold and go forward.

Until now, the Unification Church has gone through this hardship and that hardship to unify the church, and it has taken upon itself all the most complicated things in this world. Anyone who refuses such a bond cannot become a worker for unification.

Now the three-year period has passed. One thing you must know now is what the purpose is for which the Teacher guides you, and why he puts you through such hardship. Think about it.

Who will take responsibility for everyone, from the people of this nation living at the very bottom to those living at the very top?

The Unification Church must do it. To unify not only the church but the world, it must take responsibility for all the complicated affairs of the church and, at the same time, take responsibility for all the unjust circumstances of this nation and go further to take responsibility even for all the difficulties of the world. Such a historic destiny lies before us.

For this reason, I tell you to go out and die. I tell you to work. It is not that I am telling you to perish. As I said before, each time you stand in such an environment, you must press forward, vowing victory before Heaven.

Satan has carried out the work of division. He has also assaulted us individually, assaulted us as organizations, assaulted us nationally, and assaulted us worldwide. Yet Heaven carries out its providence without rest.

Therefore, the Unification family members who face this Will, even if they cannot advance, must at least not retreat. Even if we cannot be of help to God, let us at least not cause God to worry. This is what Unification believers must do.

You must know that if the effort to go forward from this position is cut off, the road ahead is blocked.

If there is a protagonist who grafts you on, he will bind you up tightly to graft you.

The history of restoration until now has been a history in which Heaven bound things up to graft them on. It means that Heaven binds you into a complicated environment. To have survived there without dying means that you fully digested that environment. Heaven strikes so that what is bound will not come loose.

Only when one does not fall off even though Heaven snatches at it with still greater force can one become a substance of life that Heaven can trust, a branch of hope, a branch that can bear fruit in the future. It must be so.

Because such a time is coming, you are driven into trials.

You must be victorious there. And then, what is to be done? Unification must be achieved. You must not think that “Unification Church” means unifying only the church.

We go forward centering upon a single world made of the ideology of the Unification Church. We must keep these fortunes of unification moving until we attend God as the great sovereign Lord of the cosmos, as the protagonist.

However realistic the trials, whatever the hardships of an age, and whatever may come, you must become one in whom this one thing at least—that conviction, that character, that conduct, that life directed toward unification—is not violated. When this is violated, the road before you is blocked.

To Unify All Religions

In unifying the world, the church is the greatest problem. It has a history and tradition in which many a sovereign laid hands on it and surrendered.

By what means will we unify such a church?

When you go to the spiritual world and seek to unify the Buddhists, you must, when you meet Shakyamuni and speak with him, have content that can make Shakyamuni shed tears; and to unify the Confucianists, you must, when you meet Confucius and speak with him, have content that can make Confucius realize his past inadequacy, beat his breast in repentance, and shed tears; and to unify the Christians, you must have content that can make Jesus shed tears.

By what means will you do so?

It cannot be done with truth alone. By what is a loyal subject or a filial son determined? Not the one who has simply been loyal a thousand or ten thousand times, but the one who acts even a single time with true sincerity, pierced to the heart, becomes the loyal subject among loyal subjects.

To fulfill the ideology of unification, you must go forward to the standard where, gathering the founders of the Way (도주) of all ages before you and explaining to them the relationship between God and yourselves centered upon heart, you can make them feel the inadequacy of their selves that they had not felt until then, and openly confess that they had not been loyal to God centering upon heart.

If you can bring countless founders of the Way to a position where, feeling the inadequacy of their past, shedding tears, and appealing once more before Heaven and the heavenly Kingdom, they can seek forgiveness, then the unification of all things is possible.

If that were to come about, how easy it would be! But just consider whether you could do such a thing. The unification of all things must be resolved by staking the heart of God and your heart upon it.

Yet when it comes to whether you have anything by which you could stake such a heart and resolve it, the answer is that you do not. That is why the one who comes bearing absolute authority—taking total responsibility for the matter of the heart, facing the countless religious founders on behalf of humanity, and able to make them yield—is the Messiah.

If you have come to know that such a one is the Messiah and have met such a one, then you must be better than anyone in history. You must surpass any Buddhist who believes in and is loyal to Buddhism, and you must be better than any believer who believes in Christianity.

In the matter of the heart, you must stand in a position that everyone can look up to—more than any fervent believer who believed in and gave loyalty to Judaism, or Islam, or whatever religion.

You must know that without this, the ideology of the Unification Church cannot be fulfilled. You must be able to shine on your own. Do you understand?

If there is one who has shouldered such a responsibility, you must love him. You must present content that lets a Buddhist who has believed in Shakyamuni until now say, “This is better than my loving Shakyamuni.”

You must present content showing that it is better than their believing in Shakyamuni and content that can make them regret what they have believed in until now.

To those who believed in Confucianism, too, you must present content that can make them regret, saying, “This is better than my believing in Confucianism! Why did I act as I did in the past!” To members of the established churches, too, you must present content that can make them regret, saying, “Why did I not believe in the past? I must believe even now!”

You must set up a standard of heart that can make the founders of the Way yield, and present conditions that can make believers regret what they have believed in. Without this, the unification of religion is impossible. Do you understand?

Then, does the Unification Church possess such things?

If we do not possess such things, we must pack our bundles and go seek them out. The Teacher must go, and you must go too.

If they are in America, we must go to America; if they are in some country at the ends of the earth, we must go even to that country. Korea is not the issue.

We must bid farewell to Korea, pack our bundles, and go seek such places. Just as there are people these days who travel the world on foot, we must go and seek them out, even by playing such a game as that.

To unify all religions, you must make the founders of the Way yield and shed tears, make them openly confess their inadequacy before Heaven, and present to the believers content by which they can feel that it is worth more and is of more benefit than what they have believed in until now, regretting their life of faith until presently. Only then can religion at last be unified. Do you understand?

Truly Love All People

Therefore, your life must be better than that of one who believes in Buddhism and better than that of a member of the established churches. In speech, in conduct, and in the matter of the heart, you must be better.

The countless founders of the Way who came and went in olden days must be able to look upon you on the earth and praise you, saying, “Ah! How wonderful,” and “You are doing the work that I should have done,” wishing for you to receive a reward greater than their own, and wishing for you to go to a more blessed position than their own. Only at that level can one be called a Unification member. You! Do you understand?

Those who say they will do so, raise your hands. Lower them. Those who say they have become so, raise your hands. Lower them. You are Unification members in name only. Empty-husk Unification members…. On a single flowering tree, there are flowers in full bloom, but there are also flower buds not yet opened.

If one who looks at that tree were told to break off one of the two, he would break off the smiling, swelling flower bud. What this means is that, if you yourselves today have not become flowers in full bloom, then at least become flower buds that the countless people of the Way might break off. Do you understand what this means?

What must be done to make a flower that has not bloomed open?

If you are a flower that has not bloomed, what must you do? You must be able to shed tears when you see people who believe in other religions. Do you understand?

When you yourselves see people who believe in other Ways, tears must come first.

You must long for them infinitely, wish infinitely to be for their sake, wish infinitely to form a relationship, wish infinitely to live together. If you have such a heart, you become a flower bud that can bloom in full.

Should the one who came bearing such things die? He must not die. He must live, together with what history has longed for.

Considering things from such a viewpoint, how must it have been for Heaven?

Until now, Heaven could not pour out all its grief before human beings. It came on shedding tears with such han. It could not gather the countless founders of the Way before it and tell them that history was thus and so. Because it was unable to become a God who could speak, it came to shed tears.

You must bear firmly in mind that to follow the path Heaven walks is the path the people of the Way must walk. Do you understand? You of the Unification Church must do so without fail.

Then, if all are unified, without falling away, what will happen?

It becomes a single world. Communism will go down. And democracy, too, will go down. An excellent example appeared in the newspaper the other day.

Hereafter, unless one becomes a Unification member, one cannot enter the gate of the single world. Everyone is bound to follow along behind us. Passing through the era of the Unification Church, we enter the era of the single world.

Now is the time to rally the founders of the Way of the world’s religions. What I wish to found is a worldwide federation of religions. What Kennedy of America should do now is rally all the religions of the world and form a worldwide body of religious people. The time has come to do it once.

Now is the time when such a thing can be done.

If the founders of all religions rally and lend their support, they can guide the presidents and rulers of the many nations of the world. Without fail, such a time will come. Wait and see. Without fail, it will come about.

Then, what is to be done?

The motive and content of doing it are good, but the question is whether there is anyone to do it. There must be someone to do it. The one who does it must be able to communicate with the Unification Church.

Yet this does not mean our present Unification Church. This may be the formation-stage Unification Church. There may even be a formation stage, a growth stage, and a completion stage of the Unification Church.

In any case, having passed through the ideology of unification and perfected one’s character, one must become a protagonist of the heart who can weep on behalf of the world while taking hold of anyone and must become a person who can take responsibility for all the difficulties of the world.

To become such a person, one must receive the respect of all people. For unifying the world, there is nothing but that.

One must receive the respect of all people. All people must wish to model themselves after his life. That is, they must wish to model themselves after the way he attends to his parents, wish to model themselves after the way he treats his brothers and sisters, and wish to model themselves after the way he forms a tribal Four Position Foundation centering upon his family and becomes one.

Only when the standard of his life becomes a standard that all people can look up to can the world be unified. For the standard of his life to become a standard that all people can look up to, it must not be a standard that applies only to his generation. It must be a historic standard.

It must be able to communicate an eternal ideology and transcend this age. He must become a person who can be respected on such a standard of living.

Establish the Standard That It Must Be Me

The Teacher guides you with a religious ideology, but what I emphasize to you is that you become an example in matters of living. This is because, for this nation to become an advanced nation of the world, it must hold such a view of life, and because we are, in any case, destined to go forward toward such a world. That is why I drive you into trials. And this is the responsibility of a leader.

If you would build up a religious foundation in your living, I tell you to live a life in which you can shed tears while taking hold of countless people of the Way.

When you see the countless people who do not even know the path of the Way, there must be no lack of tears. And so you must live a life in which you scatter tears for the sake of humanity, sweat for the sake of the earth, and blood for the sake of Heaven.

Only by showing this in matters of living can all people be restored. The Teacher sets up such a goal in living and guides you. Do you understand?

What must be done to become a worker for the unified Kingdom of Heaven?

You must know clearly who you are. You must be able to say that without me there is no earth, without me there is no heaven, without me there is no God. For God to exist, I must not be absent.

You must have the conviction that, in building God’s garden of the Kingdom of Heaven of happiness, I must not be absent, and that in bringing about heaven and earth, I must not be absent.

You must not merely hold the conviction that you should become the central being of the cosmos; you must manifest it in your living and, possessing content of deep heart that no one can touch and no one can occupy, set up a standard by which you can become one with God—only then can you say, “It must be me.”

Jesus could not make such a prayer.

He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee; remove this cup from me.” (Mark 14:36)

That is what must not be done.

You must offer a prayer that can communicate with the cosmos. You must set up such a standard. There are countless people upon this earth and countless spirit individuals in the spiritual world, but you must set up the standard that, in this age, it must be me.

You must become one and form a relationship with a teacher who holds such a conviction. What kind of relationship is there between that one and me? That is God’s gift of love. To make heaven and earth one, we must become one.

Centering upon the concept of the self, we must find the position of the cosmic self.

To do so, we must set up the standard that it must be me, not only in the world of the Way but from the very bottom of this earth up to the spiritual world. Only with such content can one give the command “You wretch!” against Satan.

Only then does there arise the dominion that God granted to human beings when, after creating heaven and earth, He asked them to have dominion over all things.

You know the present time, do you not?

At present, True Parents' Day must be found, Children's Day must be found, and the Day of All Things must be found. That is to say, the ideology of unification must be brought to completion. To set up such cosmic conditions and pass beyond them is the responsibility and mission of the Unification Church, placed in this present age. Do you understand?

Now that you have come to know this, you must be able to say that, of all the world’s humanity today, none can be saved unless it be me; the destiny of humanity rests in my hands; it must be me. There must be a body of such people, joined, who can say that it must be us.

Heaven’s Wish Is to Unify All Things Centering on Heaven

What is Heaven’s wish?

It is to unify all things, making Heaven the center. Are you, as an individual, in such a position? Is your family in such a position? Is society in such a position?

Then, have you yourself become one from such a position?

Has my family become one from such a position?

Have my brothers and sisters become one from such a position?

Has this society become one from such a position? It has not become one, is the answer. Therefore, you must not forget that a path of thorns remains before you. Do you understand?

Then, what must be done?

This fallen world today is divided into a thousand and ten thousand paths along which to go. Since each one’s field is different, those paths are all different. And so God has prepared another path to walk.

Because each of you, going your separate ways, would suffer endless hardship, He has made a path that you can walk. Therefore, we must cross beyond myself, beyond my brothers and sisters, beyond my parents, beyond my family, and on beyond people, nations, and the world.

To cross beyond even the world in this way, we must follow God. In the past, God pushed from behind, but now God takes the lead and guides.

Therefore, we have only to follow God. And we must offer up a fund of indemnity to God, who created heaven and earth and all things.

But it must be offered after being consecrated (성별). When Abraham offered his sacrifice, because he did not cleave one of the doves, everything failed. It means all heaven and earth turned away. Because Abraham wrongly offered the three sacrifices, everything fell.

Among the things we do this time, there will be all manner of works. There will be those who give by selling their blood, and those who do business through every kind of hardship. Such works will come about hereafter. When you yourselves cannot do so, it becomes a han. Each time you see such works, you must stand in a position of shedding tears.

If it is a Will centered upon a cosmic ideology, then there is a need for brothers and sisters centered upon parents who stand within that ideological sphere, a family centered upon such brothers and sisters, and a cosmos founded upon such a family. That is why a single day for the restoration of all things has been established.

True Parents' Day must be established, Children's Day must be established, and the Day of All Things must be established—you understand this, do you not? Only after greeting such days must we greet God's Day.

Until now, God has not had a single day of joy, has not had a single day of victory. That is why there must be a God's Day. Parents' Day must come. Until now, the Teacher has prayed, “May Parents' Day come quickly.”

To greet Parents' Day, there must come forth sons and daughters of Heaven who can unify the cosmos and move the people and move the world. Only when at least several sovereign rulers set up a standard by which they repent of not having known Heaven’s Will, repent of the history of their people, repent of their inadequacy, and can offer up their nation before Heaven can the Parents' Day be greeted.

The Teacher has always been busy throughout his life until now. Hereafter, the multitude of the Unification Church must be busy and busy.

You must work hard. Heaven is waiting. Heaven wishes that you would work hard and find and establish the True Parents’ Day, find and establish the True Children’s Day, and find and establish the Day of All Things.

Thereafter, God's Day can be established. Yet the fact that today this must be sought in reverse order is the retribution of the Fall.

You must know what a grateful thing it is to hear such words. To carry out the history of restoration, True Parents' Day must be established first.

In the work of indemnity by which we go forward searching for Heaven, in olden days, a sacrifice was offered by setting up the creation, and a sacrifice was offered by setting up sons and daughters.

But in the age of the Second Advent, the parents must bear the cross, set up the standard of victory, and find the children and the creation. Only when such a standard is set up can True Parents' Day at last be established, Children's Day be established, and, last, the Day of All Things be established. It must be done in reverse like this.

God's Day That Must Be Found and Established

Had human beings not fallen but reached perfection, there would have been a day when, centering upon God, all heaven and earth praised His victory; and that day is the God's Day glory—to have been bestowed upon human beings in the original world of the ideal of creation, to have been bestowed upon the unfallen human ancestors, to be rejoiced in together with God—the day of the parents’ glory, the day of the children’s glory, the day of the glory of all things.

But because, through the human Fall, this was not realized, we must restore it by going in reverse. Therefore, today we must go on without dying until we greet God's Day.

Even if we die, we must leave it as a will to our descendants: to offer their utmost devotion for that day and, sacrificing all that they have, to win God's Day. Such a mission remains for the Unification believers.

What, then, is it that must now appear in history?

Korea is not the issue; Parents' Day must appear, founded upon the world. Unless Parents' Day is found, no word “perfection” can be left under the whole of God’s purpose of creation. Therefore, to inherit Heaven’s Will, however great the difficulties, we must tread them down and cross over and, in silence, be victorious in the worldwide fight.

The Teacher has much interest in new things. When something is related to me, I have a lot of interest in it. That is because, spiritually and ideologically, I love all things. In loving Korea, I love it more than any patriot. I am a person of very many tears. This is so, of course, in loving the church, and so too in being for the sake of God and being for the sake of the cosmos.

Now the family members of the Unification Church must pray for the Father. You must pray that Parents' Day may come. To make Parents' Day come, you who are sitting are being struck.

However much a servant is for the Father’s sake, he remains a servant. However well he plays the servant, he remains a servant.

At this point, what must be done to set up a standard that is truly for the Father’s sake?

One must become a son or daughter. Until now, God has wished to govern the cosmos directly. Why? Because the principle of heavenly order (천리) is so.

Should the servant rejoice first?

Should the sons and daughters rejoice first?

Should the Father rejoice first? The Father must rejoice first. Until the Father rejoices, the Teacher does not rejoice. He fights until the Father rejoices. He crosses over in this way. When such a path remains, anyone who says he is weary, that it is hard, that it is this and that, is an enemy — an enemy.

Who is God?

He is our Father. Do you know how hard God has striven, wishing to become our Father? Just think about it—how hard He has striven. He has wandered the world searching for us.

Therefore, we must attend to God. As to what qualifications we must have to attend Him: we must attend Him as sons and daughters who represent the church, represent the nation, and represent the cosmos. Only then is the ideology of unification at last brought to a conclusion.

When that comes about, the time of unification opens, and so we come to receive blessings—tremendous blessings indeed. Until that comes about, just as in the Old Testament Age, one false move and one’s neck may be struck off. You must know that only after greeting Parents' Day does peace at last come to the cosmos.

Then, what kind of time is it today?

You do not know, but the Teacher, centering upon such an inner standard, is fighting with his teeth clenched. It is in this way that you have been set up here, and as for how the Teacher came forth, you will know it if you pray. Do you understand?

Only after greeting God's Day upon such a standard can God, in the midst of glory, say “my sons and daughters,” “my family,” “my world.” Because this is God’s principle of creation, only when that day comes does the Father’s family at last come into being. Do you understand what this means?

In the Unification Church, we say “family members” (식구), do we not?

What kind of family members are they? They are adopted children—adopted children. The Blessing of the Unification Church is the Blessing among Blessings.

That is why the Teacher, staking the term “the Blessing” before heaven and earth, gives you the Blessing. Such is our Blessed Family, possessing such content.

Therefore, the Blessed Family is different from worldly families. You understand what kind of family ours is, do you not?

By greeting Parents' Day, all the days of today must be restored into the realm of Heaven. All three hundred sixty days must become days of victory. Only then can Satan at last be shut up in the bottomless pit (無底坑).

You must know that this is the purpose of God’s providence of salvation, the purpose Jesus should have fulfilled, and the purpose the Lord at the Second Advent comes to fulfill.

The Concept of “Our Family”

Now, with what concept must you cross over these forty days?

You must hold the concept of “our family.” Do you understand the meaning of being blessed? You know “our family,” do you not?

Then, what must the family of the Unification Church be?

Everyone must make “our family.” Do you have a family? You there, Mr. Park—did you have a family? Those newly come may find it strange, but those who find it strange do so because they do not know it well.

You seem to know well, do you not?

The people of the Way have asserted celibacy, but now is the time when the fortunes of celibacy pass away.

The Teacher has laid a foundation by which a step can be crossed along the course of Providence. At this time, which family must we seek? We must seek “our family.”

The Reds say “comrade” (dongmu), and democracy says “comrade” (dongji); which do you prefer, dongmu or dongji? Dongmu is a word used centering upon playing, and dongji is a word used centering upon thinking.

Then, what do we say in the Unification Church?

We say “family members” (식구). Centering upon what do we say “family members”?

Do we say “family members” centering on an organization?

We say “family members” centering on a family. Our family—the Unification Church says “family members,” centering upon our family.

Then, when have you ever worked to feed the members of the Unification Church? If you have, answer that you have. Have you done so, or not? It makes all the difference.

It is a han that we have never attended to parents. When have I ever attended a father, ever attended True Parents; when have I ever made a father glad; have I ever had a single day when I could fall asleep nestled snugly in a father’s bosom; was there ever a time when I frolicked in such a place?

There was not, is the answer. Did I ever, growing up in that father’s bosom, inherit the tradition of parents who set up the great Way of heaven and earth, receive the Blessing, and greet the great Way of Heaven with joy, welcoming it with both hands raised? I have never greeted such a day.

Therefore, from now on, the family members of the Unification Church must live for the sake of our family. You know what kind of family this is, do you not? Through the historic ideology of unification, we must find and establish a single day of the glory of Restoration, and find the cosmic foundation.

Upon that foundation, we can find parents, find brothers and sisters, and find our family. That is why our Unification Church uses the term “family members.”

Centering upon the three-position foundation (삼위기대), all are brothers and sisters. Do you understand? You must repent that you have not come forth in this way until now.

Then, shouldering this responsibility, what has the Teacher done as he came forth until now? I loved the servant deeply, loved the brother deeply, and loved the children deeply. And in so doing, I came up through the age of the servant, through the age of the brother, into the age of the children.

We must lead the servant, lead the brother, and lead the children, and after that attend to the parents.

Then, how must we go about attending?

How must we live in living together? We must live in holiness and beauty. In holiness and beauty. This is what the Teacher now worries about. Therefore, your lives hereafter must become wholly different. You—have you attended parents?

Have you attended to your parents-in-law?

This is no laughing matter. The purpose of creation was to attend True Parents, centering upon substance, and to go forward, setting up the law of filial devotion before the cosmos.

This was the principle of the creation of heaven and earth, but because of the Fall, it was all lost, and so human beings came to dwell within a realm of boundless lamentation.

The Teacher’s purpose, too, is that. These days, because I cannot give my little ones the tender, intimate love of a father, I pray for them instead.

The Foundation of the Universe—The Parent-Child Relationship

We today are people who go searching for the position of children who can cling to the Father without thinking of shame or appearances. We stand in the forlorn position of going searching for parents as though we were orphans.

Now you must know that the time has come for you to live the life of a family. Do you understand? You must become filial sons, loyal subjects, and virtuous women, is the point. It is nothing else. When you know the whole of the heavenly Way, it is nothing special.

What is the foundation of the universe?

It is a parent and child. As the Teacher has found in prayer, it is so. Parent and I—the parent-child relationship is the foundation of the universe.

Then, what relationship is there between God and me?

God is the Father, and I am the Son, is the point. We are sons and daughters. The ultimate foundation is the parent-child relationship, and the highest goal is that as well. Therefore, we must go searching for it.

The Teacher has walked even the path of suffering, not refusing it, to find this. What enables one, even when caught in Satan’s test, to repel it instantly is the parent-child relationship.

Even when one enters the satanic world and sleeps there, what must not be forgotten is the parent-child relationship. You must know the fact that, because such a thing was lost, it is a matter of bitter grief and indignation.

Centering upon the family, one can sing of happiness, sing of freedom and the ideal, and embrace the world. Such is the world of the ideal. It is a world of satisfaction. There is not one thing lacking.

Having found such parents and brothers and sisters, you are happy, are you not?

Finding a family, one enjoys satisfaction, in heart and in material things, and returns gratitude and glory before Heaven. Only by doing so can one enter the Kingdom of Heaven. That is the conclusion.

What kind of person enters the Kingdom of Heaven?

You must know that only one who becomes a victor—attending parents in the family, feeling happiness, freedom, the ideal, and satisfaction together with brothers and sisters, and returning glory from a position of joy where one can take hold of all the world and give the command—can enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

You there—if what the Teacher says here is wrong, then lodge your complaint when you go to the next world. But if it should prove that the Teacher’s words are right, then if you fail to conform to this principle, you will be accused.

You must know that now is the time to find this and cross over into a new age.

Therefore, we, the Unification family members, must live a life of cooperation.

Through that life, we must lay the foundation of Restoration. To become a parent, one must be victorious in the life of attending parents. For the Unification Church members now to bear sons and daughters among themselves and live is a violation (犯則) — a violation.

The Teacher has fought until now upon such a principle. For this, I have given forty years of my life. Without keeping such a principle, can one become a parent?

When you mind a baby at home, the baby is adorable, isn't it?

Is it not so? And so, having entered this year, I let husbands and wives be joined. Why? Because the time had come. And so, only these days, after three years had passed, did I join together what had all been kept apart.

Having blessed all the good-for-nothing ones, I must now open the gate to countless people and go on forming bonds of relationship. Centering upon ideology, the gate must be opened. Whether there are people who come in and go out is not the issue. Those who are to come in will come in. People are the issue.

God sought to fulfill the Will over three generations by setting up Noah’s family and connecting it within and without. In that sense, there was a time when the Teacher, too, worked, centering upon the grandmothers. You, too, must know why I did so.

Therefore, from now on, the members of the Unification Church must attend the Father without fail. You must get along well as brothers and sisters. That is why you must exchange letters with one another even once a month. You must live giving. The time will come to attend to parents in earnest.

You have sons and daughters born in the world, do you not?

You must be sparing in giving to your sons and daughters, while your heart to help the family members of faith must be earnest.

Anyone who is not so is not a Unification member. You may wonder where there is such a teaching, but everyone must be so. The Teacher is so too. This is all that the Teacher does himself and then has you do.

When you greet the Teacher with tears flowing and with a heart pierced through, the Teacher cannot receive the greeting. Those who do not know this may think the Teacher truly haughty and arrogant. They will say that when an older person comes and greets him, he does not even look. It is a fearful thing.

If I receive a greeting and yet I am less than his spirit, I am judged. It is a fearful thing.

What Must Be Done in the Era of Attendance (侍義時代)

Heaven does not forget the measure of devotion. Even though one asserts some work grounded in righteousness, one must uphold devotion.

When one has not stood upon that standard, one must go forward saying, “I cannot receive this; therefore, Father, do Thou receive it.”

That is why the Teacher has very many thoughts. Whenever I greeted such a grave moment, I offered much prayer. “O Father, I know such things….”

I have prayed in this way. And I have come on paying indemnity, knowing how history has flowed and how it will be hereafter.

Until now, along the road of restoration, countless ancestors failed again and again in the course of setting up conditions of indemnity. I came forth saying that I would pay indemnity for the conditions of those failures.

I came forth resolved that I would not stand in such a failed position. I have come on offering devotion, until now, on a different dimension from the ancestors of the past.

If there has been a mistake here, it is a mistake on the flat plane, not something Satan can accuse. Because I know such things, when Satan tries to accuse, I can say, “You wretch! I did it this way.”

You will not know how long a path of hardship I walked to climb onto such a standard. It would not fall short of the place of death. That is why it is grave.

Do you know such things?

You are loafers. Just as the Teacher, feeling dread, said he could not receive it when someone came seeking him with devotion and bowed head, you too must be so.

Therefore, you must know such things and offer devotion. Looking at people these days, they are devoted to becoming experts in the world. That is all a thing of a moment. You must, without fail, set up a standard for the sake of Heaven.

If you do not, you cannot go to the spiritual world. The gate stands wide open, yet you cannot go.

You must go to be wed; would you go dressed in rags?

The bridegroom waits dressed in fine wedding robes; would you go dressed in rags? The gate of the Blessing stands open, yet you cannot go; that is the point.

The gate is open. Therefore, you must pass through this standard. Do you understand?

Then, when have you ever attended the Lord?

As the words of Matthew chapter 25 say, “Did you not feed me when I was a stranger and give me drink when I was thirsty?” — When have you ever done so?

Until now, because we knew nothing, there was no way to release our han, but now it is not so.

On whatever front, you must not lose to Satan. Do you understand? Do not lose to Satan is the point. Even your having borne sons and daughters is all caught up with Satan.

You must walk that path of mockery, blame, and bitter grief in place of Jesus, who was nailed to the cross without fulfilling Heaven’s Will.

From now on, salvation is attained through attendance, is the point. The Era of Attendance (侍義時代) is coming; that is the point. The age of individual salvation has passed.

Now is the age of family salvation, centered upon the family. In the past, the spiritual world and the physical world were divided, and they received the benefit of salvation. Man symbolizes heaven, and woman symbolizes earth.

That is why Jesus gives the benefit of salvation from heaven and the Holy Spirit from earth. And so a family foundation is being laid. In laying a family foundation, when a wife attunes her heart to her husband, she receives blessing; when a husband attunes his heart to his wife, he receives blessing; and when the children become one, they receive blessing. Now is the age of family salvation.

From where did God’s sorrow begin?

God’s sorrow began not from Noah’s failure to believe in God, but from Noah’s family failing to become one. It was not Abraham’s failure to believe that was the sorrow; it was Abraham’s family failing to become one that was the sorrow, and Jacob’s family failing to become one that was the sorrow.

You must know that, because the han is bound up centering upon the family, the standard of Restoration must be brought to a conclusion centering upon the family. Do you understand?

Those who understand, raise your hands. Those who say they will do so, raise your hands. It is not that the Teacher wishes to see your hands. By doing this, the Teacher fulfills his responsibility. You must now be able to carry on this Will even though I am not here. That is why I ask you these things. You understand, do you not?

Since every good term has been attached to you, give thanks in any case, is the point. Give thanks from such a position.

You must become one who can say, “Because it is so, I give thanks. Because it is so, it is good. I give thanks.”

If you become selves who, knowing such a Will and content, can feel it in your living, how grateful a thing that is!
