Good morning! Be seated. Because I have come back from the sea, my face has become very dark. So I think the Black people will feel that I am considerably close to them and feel a sense of intimacy.

Today the Teacher has no time, but I must say one more word about something else. The purpose of going out on the boat is not fishing but to set up a plan for making a nationwide yacht club, a worldwide yacht club, and binding people with much money before our Will. For that one needs much material and much experience, which is why one is carrying on such a play. I ask that you understand this. I do such work because I see that thereby one can make a considerable contribution to the development of the Will.

The title of the Word I seek to think about together with you this evening is “The Road One Must Go in Any Case, While Hoping.” Let us talk a little about such content.

To Resolve Man’s Agony, One Must Overcome the Present and Leap

We come to observe that all the people living in the world today, as it has been until now, are unhappy presently too, and that there is a strong likelihood that they will be unhappy hereafter too. Where did man come from and where will he go, and what is man’s original value?

What is the ideal?

These questions have been the object of the agony of thinking people ever since history began. When one comes to think centering upon such questions, we know well that we human beings have carried on the play of drawing an ideal among ourselves and have even brought in the absolute conviction called “God” and have made efforts to resolve this question but have not yet seen a resolution.

We know that in this world there live three kinds of people: thinking people, religious people, and ordinary people. Among such kinds of people, what kind of person is even the standard of hope we can look toward? One can expect something of philosophers or thinking people and, going further, of religious people, but one cannot place expectations upon people who do not think. This is a natural conclusion.

At present, philosophy cannot present a view of the future at the terminal point, and we see that religion too, in this end, has collided with a final crisis and is sounding an alarm bell. Then if the philosophers cannot resolve this and the religious people cannot resolve it, who will resolve it? This is the problem. At the present point of decision, though one has thought all the thoughts man can think and has equipped all the forms of religion man can make effort at, it is impossible; the question of how we must do is the present trouble.

Then what must humanity do today? If there is here one single road a man can go, it is nothing but the road of overcoming the present and leaping or bounding. Nothing but the road of leaping and bounding…. Seen from such a position, do we human beings can leap or bound? There is none; that is what I mean.

At present, setting the position of one individual of ours before us, it is different from the old days. In the Last days, it was enough if one took responsibility only for one's family and lived well only in one's village, but now, because one has entered the world age, one's own shoulder bears the world and is related to the nation and related to the whole of humanity. One has entered a time when one can feel this really. The destiny of you as individuals is now connected not only with the destiny of your village but also with the humanity of the world. We are now directly beholding that the destiny of the family too is so and the destiny of the nation too is so.

Seen from such a perspective, if one were to leap, one must make not some local leap but a national leap, a worldwide leap. The conclusion comes out that unless one does so, one cannot overcome this and escape. That is why the conclusion comes out that one must kick off the world and leap. Then do we as individuals have the strength to be able to do so? When one thinks of such a thing, it is proper even if one concludes that man has collided with pitch darkness and is completely in despair.

In a Confused Age Like Today, God and a True Person Are Needed

Seen from this position, what is a true person or some ideal?

That is what I mean. It is a natural saying that we are placed in this age in which we cannot but re-examine such questions and urgently examine and resolve whether God exists or not. That is why now a true person is needed. Now indeed a true person is needed, and if there is a God, now indeed is the age when He is needed. It is that urgent. “A true person is needed now indeed, and a true ideology or a true God is needed now indeed”—are we in a position where, colliding with the crisis of life, we can cry out so? We are not; that is what I mean. This is the accident.

Hearing the Teacher’s words, you say, “It is so,” but have you ever awaited that from such a serious place, offering up all your life, staking your question of life and death, from a place where one was indignant of oneself? There has not been; that is what I mean. Therefore, if we here pursue such a place, how we infer it in outline and how we think of the method of resolution cannot but be the problem. If one has become a true person whom we can truly acknowledge, the conclusion comes out that unless one is a person who thinks worldwideion, a person with a notion of nationalism or ethnic nationalism is unnecessary to us.

However many there are presidents of America, and senators and representatives who guide America, however many of them are right people, with people who think only of America, it is impossible; that is what I mean. That is why what we can generally conclude is that a true person is a person who, holding a worldview, can present happiness and a better value to humanity. The conclusion that such a person cannot but be a true person is proper. If one is such a person, the conclusion comes out that a white person is good too, and a Black person is good too, and a yellow person is good too. If there is such a person among Black people, white people too must follow, and yellow people too must follow.

Such a true person must be a person needed not only in one age but also one who can truly be attested to through eternity.

Moreover, such a true person must be a person whom not only the people of the present world like, but whom the ancestors who went to the spirit world like too, and the people of the present like, and the people who will come too can publicly acknowledge and like as a true person. At present, if there is some truth, it holds historicity.

Therefore, because one was a true person from the past, one becomes a true person in the present too, and by becoming a true person in the present, one can become a true person in the future too. This is a theoretical guarantee. We must find such a person. Such a person must come forth. Such a person becomes the central being before the humanity of the world, which is in misery and in agony. We can conclude this by inference.

A True Person Presents Eternal Value Through Religion

Now, what sort of category of person on earth will such a person, such a kind of person, be? That is not a worldwide economic figure; that is what I mean. He cannot be a politician either; that is what I mean. Or he cannot be a philosopher either; that is what I mean. Because we human beings hope for eternal life and pursue eternal value, he must be a person of a field that can indicate the inner circumstances of eternal value centering upon eternal life. Such a person, I see it, has the possibility of being discovered only through religion. Only then is there the possibility of coming forth. Why is that? It is because the road by which we can overcome the fear of death cannot be discovered through a philosopher who holds knowledge or through any learning or knowledge. This cannot be done without the power of religion; that is what I mean.

Seen from such a perspective, the conclusion comes out that the possibility of being great can be held only by a religious person. In such a person’s coming forth, can it be done by man’s effort alone? Of course one must become an excellent person who can fulfill responsibility from a human position, but if it is a person who, crossing beyond man, can, following some divine purpose, combine even the portion of responsibility that can bring that divine purpose to conclusion, that is all the more ideal; that is what I mean.

Seen from such a perspective, the conclusion holds that in the end-of-the-century age of humanity’s confusion and humanity’s chaos, without fail, someone must come who is sent from Heaven rather than someone coming forth from the human world. Such a declaration must have been in the course of human history. If God had some Will for loving humanity and saving humanity, the conclusion holds that He ought to have made such a proclamation. The fact that such a thing is the Messiah's thought, proclaimed centering upon God, is an astonishing discovery.

Yet we have not thought that if there is such a thought, it has the value of a great discovery; that is what I mean. If there was such a word and such a being, was he not a being who could transcend the nation and transcend the world? That is what I mean. What this means is that if one could greet Him first even at the cost of sacrificing one nation, then even though that nation was sacrificed, that nation could come to have the qualification to guide the world.

Only When God and the Messiah and I Become One Does One Find Peace and Happiness and the Ideal

A while ago I said, “The road one must go in any case holding hope.” What is that road a man must go? Is this not standard? One must go seeking a historical standard and the standard of our individual hope; that is what I mean. That is why, where can one find true happiness and true peace and true ideals? That cannot be done with “I” alone; that is what I mean. One must meet the Messiah, who holds a historical mission. That the Messiah and I form a relationship becomes the focus of resolving the ideal. Such a person is the Messiah, is he not?

Then is it enough to meet only that Messiah? No, that is what I mean. One must meet God together with the Messiah. One must meet God. That is why one can draw the conclusion that the ideal is discovered where God and the Messiah and I, the three, can become one. Therefore, one must connect the three.

If one looks around the planar world today, there is your teacher, and there is some leader, but that is to the very end of the planar. I see that in that field there is a road by which one can be happy, where that teacher and I become one. Yet though the teacher and I have become one, I remain and all flows away. Only I remain.

So, if it is not so and there is a teacher, how good would it be if there were an eternal teacher, a teacher who could be eternal? That is what I mean. If you wish to meet a true teacher, you will desire such a teacher. And next, if there are parents, one desires eternal parents.

If there are brothers, one desires eternal brothers, and if there is a husband and wife, one will desire to be an eternal husband and wife. If, in a place where that can be so, one says, “At the same time as I am happy, the whole of our family is happy,” would that not be the ideal land we can go seeking?

The Messiah Will Resolve the Wish of God and of Man

Then what sort of being on earth must this being called the Messiah be? In the teacher’s stead, he must be a teacher who can represent eternity, and in the parents’ stead, he must be equipped with the content of parents who can be eternal, and in the brothers’ stead, he must be able to be equipped with the value of an eternal elder brother. If He is such a One, would that not be ideal? That is what I mean.

Why is that? Because when our humanity hopes for peace and happiness, one does not hope that I alone become so; that is what I mean. It is because I need my family and my relatives and all my relationships above and below.

If the Messiah were to bring peace and bring happiness to our humanity, he must present such content all at once. If he cannot present such content, the conclusion comes out that he cannot bring peace before these people of the world. Because in the course of human history until now, there have not come forth the true parents one idealizes, or husband and wife, the relationship of brothers, everything, one family system; the conclusion comes out that if this is to come forth equipped with one form all at once, such content cannot but be equipped all at once.

If one enters into the content of the qualification called “Messiah” and analyzes its attributes, it comes out like this: “He must be, as a teacher, an eternal teacher.”

Just as, from a position like God’s, God is “It must be so”—likewise, the Messiah must appear before our humanity as true parents, as parents like seeing God’s own figure. Therefore, the bond of departure of a true husband and wife too must be presented here. And next, the bond of brothers too must be presented amid God’s governing. And next, one tribe too must be presented, and equipping even one form of how a nation must be, equipping the qualification of being able to hold the highest authority as a monarch or as a sovereign, must he not present a model of the human world; that is what I mean.

People have much greed, and if there were really such value, would one take hold and let go or not let go? (“One would not let go.”) Even if the hand comes off, one would not let go, and even if the leg comes off, one would not let go. (Laughter.) Then if there is a person who has discovered such a One, what is most fearsome to him? It is losing that One. Do you think so? Does it seem it would be so? (“Yes.”) Hearing the words, it seems it would be so, does it not? (“Yes.”) Really, my eyes are so, and my ears are so, and my five senses are so, and even my flesh and blood—I have somehow taken hold of Him….

If one cuts this off so that one cannot take hold, one must take hold with this, and if one cuts this off, one must take hold with this.

That is why the conclusion comes out that the homework humanity must solve is the Messiah. Only the Messiah—that is what I mean. That Messiah indeed is an idealist. He is an idealist with whom not only man, humanity, can be smitten, but with whom even God can be smitten. That is why there is one possibility of being able to resolve history and resolve the world. That is possible for anyone. Whether an unexcellent person or an excellent person, whether a Black one or a white one or a yellow one, whether some excellent civilized people or underdeveloped people, I acknowledge that all have a likelihood.

The Messiah Comes Seeking a Person or Body That Makes Effort to Tear Down the World’s Wall

Then what are you people gathered here doing? What are you people doing?

That is what I mean. German people, Japanese people, Black people…. What do these people seek to do? That is what I mean. The answer is simple; that is what I mean. We met, saying, “Let us once explore and resolve the world of purpose humanity pursues. Let us look for a plan for resolving it.” If hereafter this road by which we can go to the world is blocked, let us tear down that wall…. It is to tear down the wall that screens off this world. Would you do so? Can such great men as you do it? (“Yes.”) Even the president of America could not do it, and the presidents of many nations could not do it, and you do it? (“Yes.”) Yes? (“Yes.”) (Laughter.) How can one do that? That is a riddle; that is what I mean.

If you shake the world, does the world shake? Is it felt? If one kicks it…. Have you such a thought? Firstly, can the thought go ahead? Has the thought gone ahead? That is the problem. What one has not thought of cannot be accomplished; that is what I mean.

If one does not hold conviction and actually struggle, there can be no victory. Are you so? Do you have confidence? (“Yes.”) If somewhere like NBC opposes it and so on, do you say, “Oh dear, let us run away”? (“No.”) Your thought is, “Oh dear, how will it be?” is it not? Have you the confidence and the ability to reduce and smash this world’s wall of suffering, this miserable wall? (“Yes.”) Though I took hold of the land of America with one hand, what would become of it if I shook the land of America? Have you the conviction that it will shake? (“Yes.”) Really? (“Yes.”) If one can be so, you are excellent; that is what I mean. If one can be so, there is a likelihood that this despairing humanity can hold hope once.

Then what sort of place will the Messiah seek, and what sort of place will he seek to go to? Because he seeks to meet such a person and seeks to go to such a place, the conclusion comes out that the Messiah must come seeking precisely such a person. Then it is a transethnic company; that is what I mean. He does not go seeking a white person who, with a Black person beside him, says, “I dislike Black people.” One must become a person who says, “All white people do not like Black people, but I, representing white people historically, shall like Black people.” For that, one must be able to say, “I shall marry a Black person.”

God, the Messiah, will come seeking a person who can be so. It will be a person who can say, “I shall take a Black person as my son or daughter and love them”; that is what I mean. He is not such a person as kicks one away, saying, “Since you are a Black person, I cannot bring my mouth near you”; that is what I mean. He is a person who can say, “Come in quickly.”

From such a perspective, the Unification Church must play a leading role in smashing and overturning the established thought the white people of the West have held until now. This is the Unification Church’s assertion. Because white people and black people, extreme and extreme, fight and it is hard, I think one must put in the yellow race to harmonize this.

If the yellow race does such a mission, who is the person the Messiah and God could think of first since history began? The conclusion comes out that it is not a white person nor a Black person but the yellow race. That is why one can here find and establish the conclusion that in the Last Days the yellow race presents problems and an age comes when they become the world’s problem. From such a perspective, hereafter, Communist China becomes a nation that presents global problems.

The Lord Who Comes, Coming in the Flesh, Makes Human Beings One

This is outward, but as an inner problem, the yellow representative who raises one wave in the world is this Reverend Moon who is here. (Cheers. Applause.) Then is this person called Reverend Moon a great man who can be so? (“Yes.”) (Laughter.) I do not think so; that is what I mean. You perhaps think so. (Laughter.) God perhaps thinks so, but I do not think so. He is a person like you. He eats rice and is the same sort of person; how can he be so?

These days the established church members are saying that the Messiah is a person who can fly about lightly without riding in any car. They think that when Jesus lived, he had no toilet. They say, “What use is a toilet to a son of God?”

If one thinks so, they do not know the fact that the toilet is holy and that urine and feces are holy. Now, if there were even one fork with which Jesus ate rice, they would say they would not exchange it for America. They did not know until now how holy such a fork is.

Seen from such a perspective, what sort of person on earth is a true person? Let us give a definition of a true person. He is a person who eats rice, but a person who eats true rice. Though he has eyes, a person who has eyes clearer and more certain than ours is a true person. And yet, a person whose eyes know how to see what is different from ours is a true person. The ears or whatever, everything one touches and speaks of and all. One must be such a person; that is what I mean.

If God were to call one a true person, would He call such a person as is there like a phantom and then disappears a true person? That is what I mean. If it is “He is one who to the very end cannot become a hundred percent one with man,” then he cannot be a true person. That God sends a true person and makes what has not become one become one is idealism; that is what I mean. In that sense, that our Unification Church asserts “The Lord must come as a man” is a splendid assertion. It is an assertion that can turn history about and present a new revolution. It is a dignified assertion that fits reason; that is what I mean.

God likes people. He likes people. One must love people. One must love a person who has this hair; that is what I mean. One must love this flesh. One must love this flesh; that is what I mean. One must love these eyes, and must love this nose, and must love this mouth, and must love everything. God has no body, so can a God who has no body love? So only by putting a body on in God’s stead and sending him, only by setting up a person in His stead, can He love; that is what I mean.

That is why I think that the Messiah will be of a type that resembles neither Western people nor Asian people, a middle sort, a very compromising person, an idealistic type. So if a man, he will be handsome. And if he has aptitudes, he will have aptitudes in many directions. He will have aptitudes beyond those of the famous actors of these days whom the people of the world admire. Even in playing sports, he will do everything well. He will be a person with interests in many directions. He will be better than I, better than I. He will be better than I.

A Person Whom God and the Messiah Acknowledge Is a Completed Human Being of More Value Than the Universe

Seen in this way, such a person is needed; that is what I mean. Then what will such a person do? What will this person assert? He will teach that the completion of the individual is done in such and such a way. Man, however much he has made effort, cannot have the noun “completion” alone; only through Him is there completion.

All of you, whether you look at the sky or look at the earth or look in all four directions, night or day, have you felt, “Ah! I am happy. Was I born for this? In the words of the Bible, it was said that the life of one person is of more value than this universe.

If such a complete person comes forth, he will be a person whom this whole universe hopes for. If a person sings in a good mood, the whole universe sings; that is what I mean. If that person laughs “ha ha ha,” the universe laughs along. If that person goes somewhere, the universe follows. One feels such a thing. Can you too be so?

A woman’s eyes are “Oh dear! Who is my man? (Laughter.) It is pitiful; that is what I mean. She is not an ideal woman. If one was born as a worldwide and universal woman, even if one cannot become Miss Universe, one must be able to boast of being Miss Something. Whee— One must be able to be like this; that is what I mean.

That is why one is different from you; that is what I mean. It is good even if one is fat and the behind sticks out; that is what I mean. (Laughter.) If one decides so, it is settled; that is what I mean. Is there anything special?

If one decides so, that is beauty; that is what I mean. It is not that one is a beauty because the waist is slender and this sticks out and the behind sticks out, as today. At that time, if one says that being fat and like a pumpkin, rolling well when rolled and able to roll in all four directions, is a beauty, that too becomes a beauty; that is what I mean. (Laughter.) It can be so; that is what I mean. One must hold such an aspiration and hope, such a hope. Only when one can say that one has discovered confidence that can boast of completion and remain is one a person who can bring individual completion—you will understand that.

It would be good if I told an interesting story, but because much time has gone and time is short….

All of you, have you completed it? (“No.”) If one completes it, one can have God the Father as a friend. A son of God must be universal; would it do to be American? Would it do to be American? That is what I mean. From such a perspective, it is unmistakable that Reverend Moon is one representative figure who can present before God content with the likelihood of electing candidates for sons and daughters of God. That is possible, is it not? That you like Reverend Moon is that you like him to stand out because he holds such content; that is what I mean. Is that so? (“Yes.”)

What will you do if I kick you away?

If I kick the foot, will you take hold of the hand? If I kick here, will you hang on with the foot? Can you be like this? If so, there is no pitiful person but me; that is what I mean. (Laughter.) Even with only two or three sons and daughters, one thought about how to rear them, and with Black people and white people all holding on like this, that is hell. (Laughter.) Now, would you wish to run away or wish to stay? (“We wish to stay.”) (Laughter.) For that, to make you remain, there is no road but to sympathize and comfort. If one is irritable and makes life hard and they run away, what does one do? Can one be so? (“Yes.”) That face that says “yes” is gorgeous, truly so. (Laughter.)

And now, if one speaks of completion, where can one find my individual completion? One can draw the conclusion that it holds only in meeting the Messiah, having God present, setting up the Messiah as a witness, and receiving a signature. Centering upon God, with Jesus as witness, one must receive credentials under a public acknowledgment in which God can say, “So-and-so is a completed person.”

Now, the conclusion has come out. Do you have the confidence to receive such a thing? (“Yes.”) How? I cannot believe you; that is what I mean. Have you confidence? (“Yes.”) What will you do? I dislike you. (Laughter.) Do you say, “Come, please! Come, please! Sacrificing everything of your own from your inner room? Is that so? In your breasts there is still a secret storehouse built with steel bars; that is what I mean. Have you opened it all? Must the Teacher open that, or must you open it? Must one open it because Reverend Moon tells one to open it by force, or must one open it voluntarily? (“One must open it voluntarily.”) If one can be so, it will be possible; that is what I mean.

The Base of Completion Is the Place Where One Meets God and the Messiah

How a completed person must be is that, together with Heaven, one must become a citizen of one worldwide nation.

What nation’s person are you?

For you are an American person, a German person, a Korean person, and all, but where is my nation? It is this globe. This globe is my nation. Where is my hometown? This globe is my hometown. I do not know such a thing as national borders. I do not know such things as Black people or white people either. All are God’s children. From such a perspective, the world turns out well….

Let me ask you, American people, one thing. Who is an American? Let me ask you. Is it good for America to turn out well, or good for the world to turn out well? (“The world.”) You answer so because you are Unification Church members. Other American people dislike that; that is what I mean. Reverend Moon is heresy, and this and that…. Then who will win? Who will move history, move the world? America cannot move it. I know that America is already being expelled and isolated from the world. Only we protect the world and the world….

Then what nation’s person is this Reverend Moon? (“Korea, God’s nation.”) God’s nation. I desired that answer; I do not like the word “Korea”; that is what I mean. Korea is a nation that has opposed me for thirty years until now. That is why, even at the cost of casting away Korea, I seek and rescue the world. “Even at the cost of casting away the yellow race, let us find white people and find black people. And so, finding white people and finding Black people, I shall find you for you—it is like that; that is what I mean. That is why now, knowing that Asia and Korea are in an emergency, I have come to America and am carrying on this play; that is what I mean. Well, what place’s person is Reverend Moon? (“God.”) He is a person of the Father’s nation, is he not? When one asks what nation’s son of whom you are, one says “God”; but when one asks what nation’s person one is, will it do to say, "God"? Is God a nation? (Laughter.) One must say a person of the heavenly kingdom….

Because I discovered that there is in that nation something greater than Korea, which one can call the fatherland where I was born, and discovered that there is something greater than living with our mother and father, and discovered that there is something greater than all the brothers in our hometown, I could not but cast away everything and take this as my hometown and take it as my nation. So I learned the procedures by which one can be entered in the register of the heavenly kingdom; that is what I mean. For that there must be documents. One does not know how complicated it is even to obtain permanent residence in America, where trifling people live. Then would becoming a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven be simple?

It will not do for me to say I am qualified there. It will not do; that is what I mean. Even if one says go this way, “Yes”; even if one says go that way, “Yes”; even if one says come here, “Yes”; even if one says come tomorrow, “Yes”—one must say “yes” to everything. If one complains that it is different from the procedures of one’s own nation, it is impossible. Simply, the eyes too “yes,” the ears too “yes,” the thought too “yes,” the mind too “yes”—it must be so. Well, if the Teacher has such qualifications, will you do whatever the Teacher teaches? (“Yes.”) Then how would it be if one said not to use English but to use Korean? It will not do to say, “Oh dear! I must use English.” One cannot assert that; that is what I mean. Do you understand? (“Yes.”) One must pass through a process in which one can be so; that is what I mean.

For that, in the end, hereafter one must meet the Messiah and, under the Messiah’s witness, receive a certificate of approval before God. You will now understand such words; that is what I mean. And next, completion is absolutely necessary. Yet more absolutely necessary than that is God, and the Messiah is more absolutely necessary; that is what I mean. That is why, for the sake of that Messiah, one must be able to sacrifice everything of theirs to God and have some left over.

Where did I say completion is?

Where is the place where one can complete?

That is what I mean. One must know, certainly; that is what I mean. That is the place where one meets the Messiah; that is what I mean. The Messiah. All of you, have you met the Messiah? (“Yes.”) One is seeking to meet the Messiah. One is seeking to meet him; that is what I mean. There remains a road one must go; that is what I mean. That is why one must certainly know that only by meeting the Messiah, by taking hold of God and the Messiah, can one be complete.

Then where is the base of completion?

God and the completed Messiah—what is the completed Messiah? From the completed parents…. Individual completion is so, and where does family completion come from?

However much a white husband and wife stick together like a wad of chewing gum so that they cannot be separated and live enjoyably so that honey pours out by the bucket, that is not an ideal married couple. One must be able to receive God’s public acknowledgment under the Messiah’s guarantee.

Only when such completed individuals join and become husband and wife and receive approval can completed sons and daughters at last be born upon this globe. The conclusion comes out that only through the Messiah centered upon God can a family come forth, and from there sons and daughters can come forth, and one tribe can be formed, and one nation and an idealistic world can be manifested. This is a proper conclusion; that is what I mean.

Where is the base, the original hometown, of the completion of all such requisites as the completion of the world, the completion of the ideal, the completion of happiness? When one sets before oneself the question of where the base is, everything is at the point of settlement called God and the Messiah…. Do you understand? (“Yes.”) Leaving out God, there is no completion, and omitting the Messiah, there is no completion. There can be no completed ideal society, and no ideal nation can be manifested. Only God and the Messiah are the basis of the original hometown that can resolve all the requisites of happiness and ideal pursuit. Do you understand? (“Yes.”)

One Must Pierce Through God’s Heart of Love and Go Seeking the Messiah

Then what is most necessary for you? (“God.”) God. God is necessary, and next? The Messiah. And next? I. These three must become one. Only then do your thoughts communicate with the Messiah’s thought and communicate with God’s thought. Your actions can stand in the stead of the Messiah’s actions and stand in the stead of God’s actions, and your words can stand in the stead of the Messiah’s words and stand in the stead of God’s words.

If it becomes so, through you one can put on spectacles (메가네) and look out as the Messiah, and can look out as God; that is what I mean. Speaking in terms of the eye, this black part must be God, and the blue part the Messiah, and the white part you; that is what I mean. Well, is the focus all wrong? Can the black part go up while the blue part goes this way and the white part goes that way? They all go to one side; that is what I mean. If only it were so; one could sit and behold this universe; that is what I mean.

That is why for you this has not yet been fitted; that is what I mean. The lens has not been fitted. The more it is a telescope that looks far, the thicker the lens must be and the greater their number. Therefore, if one would look far out, all one’s thoughts must enter within God, and all one’s actions must be done together with God, and such a view must become the center before you; that is what I mean. So now one has come to know that is what I mean. One has come to know that the original hometown of completion—that this is nothing apart from God and the Messiah.

Then what is it that our Unification Church seeks to do?

It is to guard that road. This world: one must pierce into the middle of this world, into this middle.

So what does our Unification Church do?

Where does it seek to pierce into? If there is a God, it is to pierce into God’s heart. It is to pierce into Jesus’ heart; that is what I mean. It is different; that is what I mean. It is not believing; that is what I mean. So it is God’s heart, but what sort of heart among hearts is it? It is the heart of love. Is love two, or one? All one love….

If only one can pull out that love, one can know God’s love that truly loves humanity. The base from which one can discover the love that loves the individual, and can discover the love that loves the family, and can discover the love that loves the people, is nowhere but there.

In the midst of the universe, what do you wish to have?

A diamond mine? Knowledge? Power? None of them. It is that one wishes to have God. It is that one wishes to have God; that is what I mean. Among those, do you wish to have the eyes? Do you wish to have the hands? Do you wish to have the clothes? Do you wish to have the head? (“All of them.”) Then do you always carry them all about like that? Will you carry them in your wallet? It is enough to have only one. What is that one? (“Heart.”) Heart; and among hearts, what is the center? (“Love.”) Love. Can one do that thing called love alone? However much God too has love, because He cannot do that love alone, He cannot but seek a true person who can enjoy this love.

The people of the world display other greed, but Reverend Moon says Let us pull out this love; that is what I mean. It is to seize and find it. If one does so, Reverend Moon will be a tremendous person. (Laughter.) If I seized that love and ran away, would God follow or not follow? (“He would follow.”) He follows automatically; that is what I mean. If one comes to know that there is love, is one not automatically all dragged along? Here, you pretty made young ladies! You seek to go to a man who has love, a man who has love, do you not? (“Yes.”) It is so; that is what I mean. God too is so; that is what I mean. That is why the point Mr Moon of the Unification Church desires is that point; that is what I mean. So teaching God’s heart, teaching what God’s heart is like, and bringing to light what that world of heart is like, is the characteristic of the Unification Church; that is what I mean.

So God’s love, through the Messiah…. That Messiah is the parents, the parents. At the same time as being a parent, he is a teacher, and a king representing the nation, and an ideal elder brother representing brothers, and an ideal husband symbolizing a husband, and an ideal man representing men. That is why humanity must seek that One. Even at the cost of losing my mother and father, one must seek that One.

Even at the cost of casting away all my knowledge, one must go seeking that One. Even at the cost of casting away and leaving the nation in which I live, if one can find that One, one must step forth. We are people who do such work.

Resembling God and the Messiah, One Must Shoulder Their Responsibility in Their Stead and Go

You have cast away parents. Your parents oppose, saying, “Do not go to the Unification Church! Why do you love Reverend Moon more than your mother and father, more than me? This will not do,” and oppose the Unification Church. They say, “I bore you, so you are a white person’s child; why do you follow a yellow person? Why do you cast away this family that I bound together and go out of nowhere to that church? (Laughter.) “What do you seek to do going to church? You have grown up in this house until now, and your mother reared you and did everything; does the church feed you rice? Does it clothe you?

If you come here, I love you and make you comfortable, but if you go to church, there is none of this taste; why do you go?”—they do not understand that. Yet you know, that is what I mean. (Laughter.) Why? Because the eyes keep opening.

This time one is caught by a person like Ted Patrick, and in places like the Washington Post or some Daily News, they say the Unification Church is thus and so…, that Reverend Moon is a wicked person, that if one has seen him it is a great matter, that if one meets him, he is a person to be beaten to death; and oh dear! on finding out, one propagates that it is not so; that is what I mean.

All of you, when a typhoon blows, one does not know whether the wind is blowing or the trees are simply shaking, does one? There are many things such that one does not know where they are blowing from, and only after it is all over can one say, “Ah, the wind blew, so it became like that.” Only then does one say the Unification Church wind is blowing…. At first one did not know what it was and was like this, but when it grows quiet and the Unification Church takes its place, only then does one say, “Ah! It was so.” Mr. Moon of the Unification Church raises the typhoon. Because there is wind, one goes. One knows nothing but going. One does not know how to stop. If they would oppose, let them oppose; that is what I mean. If they oppose, one collides and goes around; if one goes around but one does not stop, that is what I mean.

I do not take hold and fight; that is what I mean. I slip over it. One is carrying on such a play, and there is still a low-pressure area remaining. That is why we go; that is what I mean. With Reverend Moon as the head, you become Reverend Moon’s body and follow along with a “whoosh,” do you not? (Laughter.) It is a typhoon zone; that is what I mean. If one goes around the fifty states of America like that with a “whoosh,” America is swept. You must not know such a thing.

Then what shall we do? It is to accomplish such a world of God’s heart, and to widen that world, which God seeks and humanity seeks, from this individual through the environment as far as this nation and the world. You must know that this is the duty of the people of the Unification Church. You must resemble God; that is what I mean. Have you resembled Him or not resembled Him? (“We have resembled Him.”) And the next one must seek the Messiah and resemble him; that is what I mean.

When one has so resolved, one can say, “Even if there is no God and no Messiah, I shall go!” Only then can one say, “God, rest. Messiah, rest. I shall finish it.” (Applause.) One can say, “From within my family, I take responsibility for my village, my county, my state, and I take responsibility for my nation, the world, and I shall take responsibility even for the spirit world.” Have you confidence? (“Yes.”)

If there were a person who could be so, would God look and say, “Hey! You fellow! You good-for-nothing fellow. What is this?” (Laughter.) Would He say so or not? He says, “This fellow, being excellent, has good thoughts. Try it once.”

In that respect, you must take Reverend Moon as your model; that is what I mean. One must do it holding the confidence, “I can be so. Let us try it!” One must hold such confidence as, “I shall love even to the range Thou canst not love, and I can love even what Thou canst not love.” Then would God say, “Hey, you fellow!”? He thinks, “All right! My son is excellent.” Would it be so or not? (“It would be so.”) Therefore, when you come to the Unification Church, you must look at Mr Moon and say, “Go to Korea. Go somewhere else and spend the summer. Go out on the Pacific on a boat and catch fish and take your hand off it. I shall do it all.” One must think, “Next year’s Yankee Stadium gathering of two hundred thousand I too shall do alone. Even if all leave off, it is too many. I shall do it alone. If there are many people my achievement is halved, but if I do it alone, the achievement goes up that much”—I say think so. Is that so? (“Yes.”)

Even in drinking water one must think one drinks the water of the ocean, and even in breathing, one must think one breathes the air of the universe, and even in fighting one must think that this hand strikes not only America but the world, and even in shouting, one must shout so that the world is smashed. One must think such a thought; that is what I mean. If I attack, do I collide head-on? Are you so? (“Yes.”) That is necessary; that is what I mean.

One Must Believe and Love a Leader Who Accomplishes God’s Nation in God’s Name

Think of it. Reverend Moon is of the yellow race…. American people consider little Korea to be a trash-can-like nation they aided in the old days, and this Reverend Moon, born in that Korea, came…. When I came to America, I said, “I shall cook America once,” but would American people believe that? When I met the senators and representatives of America and said, “I have done thus for two years; let us take our young people and carry on a movement to save America once,” they went mm-mm-mm…. (Laughter.) Their expressions are not forgotten even now. They were dumbfounded that one had come as a guest who did not know America. That unrelaxed look on their faces is not forgotten even now. So I received a stimulus. That became a great stimulus to me. Because as a man I had said such words, I thought I must do it to put those faces out of countenance.

Even if this NBC opposes us, I do not refute and fight, but wait and see. I shall without fail do more than that; that is what I mean. If the American citizenry opposes, I hold such a thought as, “Because the American citizenry opposes, I can have confidence that I can make America an America of a higher dimension." In any case, I am better than you.” Wherever my hand goes, a fight will simply unfold, and the division of good and evil will unfold.

All of you, do you really listen well to the Teacher’s words, and do you really believe the Teacher? Do you believe in and love him? (“Yes.”) Do you believe, though, that you are white? Looking, he is different; that is what I mean. The eyes are different, and this and that are different, and yet do you believe me? (“Yes.”) Why? One must know that it is not for America’s sake but to find the world; it is to find the world. One must know that it is to accomplish God’s nation. Because he guides, setting that purpose before him, because he is a leader who can make possible the purpose corresponding to that, one loves and believes.

Here in America, it was April 1973 that they gave me permanent residence. (He spoke while writing on the board.) Since now is August 1975, in these two years…. If one is an American, if one is a thinking person, Reverend Moon came and did work at which anyone would be astonished; that is what I mean. Do you believe that too? American people, if one says “Reverend Moon,” many know, do they not? (“Yes.”) In New York there is no one who does not know; that is what I mean. In New York they all know now. The other day I went to the park, and someone said, “Ah, is that not Reverend Moon?” So I said, “Yes, that is right, I am Reverend Moon.” (Laughter. Applause.) Did I become famous by the fist? (“No.”) Did I become famous by speech? (“No.”) Did I become famous by expedient means? (“No.”) There is nothing but that I became famous with God’s name; that is what I mean.

And yet they do this and that and every sort of opposition. That is good; that is what I mean. Victory and defeat come at the end of a fight. It is just as when one holds a boxing tournament; there are preliminary bouts before the main bout. That is why Reverend Moon steps forth last, after sending you out. So Reverend Moon is doing worldwide work, not American work, the play he is doing. However much Rabbi David opposes here, he is no match for Reverend Moon; that is what I mean. He is not even a match; that is what I mean. Even if Rabbi David faces the world and says, “Listen to my words,” it does not work, but if I once command, in every part of the world they can do every sort of thing. In that sense I am better; that is what I mean. Can Rabbi David be compared? He is too trifling, so I do not take him as an opponent.

I have nothing to lose even to President Ford of America; that is what I mean. If Ford says to the young people of the world in the name of the president of America, “Listen to my words and rise,” is there even one person who would do it? (“There is not.”) Can the young people of the world be so? (“They cannot.”) Yet if I only command, they do it in Germany too, and in Japan or anywhere. So I am better.

Fight On for the Completion of the Kingdom of Heaven Through Expansion of Organization and Strong Training

In that respect, I say entrust the young people of America to me. I hold confidence that I can also make assertions representing the American citizenry; that is what I mean. The nation and the family and the parents, all within my hand, in three years I shall make an entirely new America. If one only entrusts them to me for three years, I can do that and have some left over; that is what I mean. If one only entrusts them for three years, it is possible; that is what I mean.

Your parents opposed, and the nation opposed…. Look. You who have come here, your parents opposed, and your friends opposed, and your teachers opposed, and your nation opposed. Though they told you not to go, I made you, who rushed out, like this; if they entrusted them all to me, I would make them go in smoothly like a pumpkin that thinks. Are you convinced? (“Yes.”)

In the past, have you met a person who, as a foreigner, in two years could shake all the states of America and do like this? (“No.”) President Nixon too was expelled, but if one had only done as Reverend Moon said, America would not have been so utterly disgraced; that is what I mean.

If Nixon had been there, would Vietnam have become like that, and would Cambodia have become like that? Thinking such thoughts, now they will think, “Ah, Reverend Moon has something.” If they had listened to Reverend Moon’s words, America would not have become like that…. That is why Reverend Moon’s stock will gradually rise; that is what I mean. Wait and see.

Now, even setting the senators and representatives before one, there is no one who does not know me; that is what I mean. They know that you, centering upon the PR team, work for the sake of the nation and the world without hoping for any profit. That is why, through the United Nations operation, the people who are somebody at the United Nations all know this Reverend Moon; that is what I mean.

If America were to expel Reverend Moon, some people could say, “Oh dear! Reverend Moon, come to our country!” There are such people even now. “If America opposes, we shall welcome you!”—there are such people; that is what I mean. That is why I am not a pitiful person; that is what I mean. Simply, whatever one does, even with this small grasp of the hand and this head and this one body, I am not afraid; that is what I mean.

Seen in this way, if America only entrusts America’s young people to me for three years, I shall finish it all cleanly; that is what I mean. Because that has not come about, one cannot but do it even by a paradoxical method, to pierce through that environment that has not come about and cultivate a foundation that can be. That is why we cannot but carry out a vast expansion of organization and strong training. In that sense, do you wish to become the Teacher’s fellow worker, or do you wish to become a fellow worker? Will you become a person who is dragged along, or will you become a person who can urge and drag, saying, “Teacher, let us go”? (“A person who can drag.”) Then I shall close my eyes….

There are only two secret methods of victory. There is the road in which Reverend Moon stands at the head and runs and fights, and the road in which you stand in front and run and fight. Then which is quicker is that your standing in front and running and fighting is quicker than Reverend Moon’s standing at the head and doing it. Now, which method will you take? I shall keep my eyes closed. Then will you drag? (“Yes.”) Will you do so? (“Yes.”) Let those who say they will do so raise their hands.

Why must one do so?

Because it is the duty for which I was born; I must give my whole life for the completion of my individual self, for the completion of the family, for the completion of the nation, for the completion of all the people of the world, for the completion of the Kingdom of Heaven; one cannot but do so. Apart from that road, there is no road to go on. Because the road one must go in, in any case, holding hope, is precisely this road…. This is today’s Word.
