Let Us Cross the Pass

· Former Headquarters Church, Korea · Vol. 31-1

In our living through a lifetime, there are many paths. There is a path even in living a single day, and in the time of youth, if it be youth, there is a path.

Furthermore, in holding a family and leading that family along, there is a path, and in social living, there is likewise a path. That is, it means that before the road that goes from the individual to society and further, the nation, there is a pass that can settle its destiny. When we set out into the world, it is likewise the same.

The Standard by Which the Success or Failure of Human History Is Decided

Seen from this viewpoint, you must know that all matters go on forming bonds centering on a pass called “one summit.” We often say that someone succeeded and someone failed. Then what kind of person is one said to have succeeded? He is a person who crossed the pass he aimed at.

What kind of person is one said to have failed?

He is a person who did not cross that pass. Even when we set out on our lifetime, if one accomplishes what one aimed at in the course of one’s life, one is a person who succeeded in life, and if one does not accomplish it, one is a person who failed.

When we apply this to history, when one does not reach the standard of purpose history desires through the course of history, one comes to fail, and when one crosses beyond that standard, one comes to be victorious. Seen from such a viewpoint, when we set out God’s providence, when God Himself accomplishes what He purposes, He can be placed in the sphere of victory, and when He cannot accomplish it, He comes to be placed in the sphere of failure. Seen thus, the Providence of Restoration, that is, the providence of returning, is a noun necessary in the sphere of failure and not a noun required in the sphere of victory.

What are fallen human beings?

These are descendants of the defeated. Then how do these descendants overcome the grief of the defeated? This problem cannot but become a task of living and a task of one’s whole life that one must struggle with and overcome from birth until life is exhausted.

Accordingly, seen more broadly, it is society’s task, and the nation’s task, and the world’s task, and also a task humankind must resolve for eternity.

According to whether one resolves this task or not, whether human history succeeds or fails is decided. To put it another way, we must know that the question of whether God achieves the Will of providence or not depends upon it.

How Shall We Today Cross the Pass of Six Thousand Years of Restoration?

When we set out our individual selves today, we cannot but think about what kind of position our individual selves are placed in. In this arena of receiving a certificate of completion today as the tenth Sunghwa class, one must think about what kind of position one is placed in when set against the goal toward which the Will is directed. Though one runs while gazing upon the summit toward which the Will is directed, that road is of ten thousand appearances. It means that one person goes this way and another that way, and the friend closest to me seeks to go that way while I seek to go this way.

When we set out in such a scattered environment, one must criticize oneself regarding what kind of road I am going on in the course of running toward the summit.

In going such a road, a person who does not, at the same time as making clear the direction he must go, settle the position in which he himself is placed is an exceedingly dangerous being. Such a person will suffer the grief of the defeated without even having faced the summit pass that will draw near hereafter.

Furthermore, he will collapse without even knowing the goal of where he is going.

Then how shall one cross that summit pass?

This is the problem. By breaking through this pass, the purpose for which one believed in and followed the Unification Church is accomplished. We have welcomed this day today, standing upon a ground of merit for which we have toiled for several years until now.

From this viewpoint, you must look back upon what kind of position you yourselves are now in and, not from a third party’s position but from your position, settle your posture once again. You must know that you are facing such a grave problem.

The Pass the Forebears Could Not Cross Is Drawing Near Before Us

When we observe the course of the Providence of Restoration, here there is a pass the individual must cross. The six thousand years of history until now are a history for finding one lost Adam. It has taken six thousand years to find one completed man. In coming forth so, only when one settles once and crosses that pass of one individual’s having been completed and having been victorious individually, does one come to welcome a time when one can at last form a new bond. That time is precisely the age of hope that humankind desires today.

Furthermore, the One who must come to this earth as one completed man is the savior all people desire, and such thought is savior thought, Messiah thought.

How many were the passes the individual had to cross in the course of restoration that has come through the course of history until now?

Passing from the age of the servant of a servant through the age of the servant, the age of the adopted child, the age of the son, Jesus came to this earth but departed without achieving the Will. From the day he departed, two thousand years of struggle that bring tears of blood have continued. Not only that, while groping through a course of death that cannot be pioneered without scattering blood, heaven and earth and humankind have come forth wholly mobilized to cross the pass the individual must go. In walking such a road, how serious must the road of destiny of humankind be, which must find that breathtaking moment of gazing upon the summit?

This pass is a summit pass that human beings, whether they like it or dislike it, must cross with history at stake and eternity at stake. When one cannot cross this pass, a han of a thousand and ten thousand years will lie across before me, and an authority of darkness proportionate to what I wish for will press me down. It means there is such a fearful historic pass.

Toward the summit of this pass, countless prophets and noble forebears, hiding their identity and scattering blood, cried out, holding only that single thought even while forgetting their existence amid the bloody battle of death, or died but did not achieve the Will.

You must know the fact that the pass, which they left without achieving, that Will is drawing near before us. It means that the pass, which God wished to cross for six thousand years, is drawing near to us today, in the age of the consummation of history.

The Unification Church, Which Espouses Family Salvation

Religion until now was a religion for saving the individual. This was the one pass religion sought to cross from the beginning of history until now. Then, once one crosses this pass of the individual, what pass is there? There is the patriarch of the family.

What kind of church is the Unification Church today?

The Unification Church is not a church that takes individual salvation as its goal.

Escaping from the form of religion that made individual salvation its main concern for six thousand years, it must become a religion for saving the family. This is the historic task the Unification Church must resolve hereafter.

Today the nation commends individuals. It commends loyal subjects and virtuous women, or filial sons and filial daughters, but this is in every respect commending the individual and not commending the family. Until now there has been no nation that commended centering on the family. It is likewise the same with religion; there has been no religion that came forth taking family salvation as its goal.

The countless religions that have come through the historical process until now could not rise to a position where they could establish a nation. Why? Because the purpose of salvation was individual salvation. It was not one that took social salvation as its purpose, nor one that took national salvation as its purpose. It merely came forth, taking individual salvation as the purpose of religion.

Religion until now has tried for six thousand years to cross a victorious path centered on the individual. But before the road our Unification Church must go on, there is the path of the family. In crossing this pass of the family, it will not do to cross alone. One must, without fail, cross together as two. In crossing together, it is not that one goes in a before-and-behind relationship, but that one must go in a left-and-right relationship. Why? Because the Fall unfolded through following. To put it another way, it means Eve perished while following the archangel and Adam while following Eve. In a position of thus following, salvation is not established. Only when one goes from the same position left and right, an equal position, an equivalent position, is relative salvation established.

Seen from this viewpoint, what is it that the Lord who comes as a man must do upon coming to this earth?

Is it to seek a partner who can follow him and spread the ideology of the heavenly kingdom?

With that, it will not do. One must, sharing the same tune and the same toil with the partner, step forth before God with the two on a parallel line, left and right, and go forward with the same pace. Without one man and one woman coming forth who can be so, one cannot restore to the original self. To put it another way, it means that unless such human beings, that is, a man and a woman, come forth, one cannot cross beyond the summit pass one must go.

That is why Jesus said, “I am the bridegroom, and you are the bride.”

With What Formation Must One Cross the Pass of Indemnity?

Bridegroom and bride go not in a before-and-behind relationship but in a left-and-right relationship. When a wedding ceremony is held, there is without fail an officiant. The bridegroom and bride advance before him in parallel. This is the road the bridegroom and bride go.

In the course of history until now, has there been an age in which one man and one woman went before God in parallel? There has not. This has at last appeared again in the course of history, and it is precisely the final pass that man and woman must cross today. Once one crosses this pass, a peaceful family such as has not been in history, a new family such as has not been in history, departs.

When one achieves such a family, the next one must go the road the family must go, centering on husband and wife. In that family there will be sons and daughters centering on husband and wife. These sons and daughters too must likewise not be in a position of following the parents. Even in advancing before God, dividing into the father’s side and the mother’s side, one must be equipped to parallel and advance. This is the purpose of creation that God desires.

In this way, there is a pass the individual must cross, a pass the husband and wife must cross, and a pass the family must cross. If the whole of the families cross that path and become completed families, the countless families of the world will form left-and-right relationships centering on God and be equipped with a horizontal formation. And thus there will come to be families that can each make their assertion before God. When it becomes so, God will welcome those families with the same blessing, the same delight. But when they are in a before-and-behind relationship, it means that, without fail, sorrow intervenes to the extent of that difference.

That is why you must know that if one would hereafter achieve an ideal family, a man and a woman are necessary who can fit together horizontally, centering on God. Then how such a husband and wife lead their children along on a left-and-right horizontal straight line is the problem. These must achieve one family and achieve one clan and achieve one people and form one nation.

If all the people of the world come to go from such a position, is not such a nation the nation God held as ideal?

It means that all people appearing in the same form on a straight line is the highest standard of purpose God created on this earth.

From this viewpoint, it is likewise the same even when we look at our minds and bodies. A person whose mind drags his body along cannot stand before God. Such a person cannot achieve the history of indemnity. Then how shall one make oneself into a self who can lead one’s mind and body along on a horizontal straight line from a left-and-right position?

One must fight to make such a self. Is this fight not relevant to your pioneering the individual course? That is why how one will cross that pass is the problem.

Then if there be a Will in God’s sending the Teacher upon this earth today, would it be God’s purpose to welcome a band that follows behind the Teacher in a single straight line? No. Such a band will at some time be attacked by a band like a pack of wolves. They have already departed from the field of vision in which one can observe. The place I can directly govern is not behind. It means one cannot govern what is behind. If one would govern what is behind, one must turn round again. If one wants to turn around, one must change direction.

So only by standing within a sphere of a hundred and eighty degrees does a sphere of protection arise. It is made so that one manages from 180 degrees. Even when we look at our hands, they are made to govern within a sphere of a hundred and eighty degrees. The eyes too are not made to look behind. When the eyes look straight ahead, that angle grows gradually narrower. Our nose bridge too is so. All these mark a line by which one can go straight to the summit.

From this viewpoint, when we set out the believers who believe in the Unification Church and yourselves who complete the tenth Sunghwa class today, how are you going? Are you following behind? Are you standing on a parallel line and going?

We Who Must Cross Eight Stages of Passes

A person of character, if he has promised something to someone, carries it out and puts it into practice. If there is a person who says, “Because you asserted this and promised it, I will not follow this,” he is not a person of character. Law is what has been promised, centering on a public standard. That is why all the people within the sphere of the promise of that law must keep that law. When a person who has promised cannot keep that law, he must receive sanction according to the common law. This is the responsibility of people who must observe the law.

Whoever asserts it, one must put into practice a promise that has been set up. If one does not put it into practice, one becomes a dropout. As for a promise, everything must be in accord, centering on the promised standard; that is, a line if a line, a point if a point. There must be no before-and-behind relationship there.

Therefore, when it is said, “We will assemble at such an hour and such a minute,” all must be unified upon that very hour and minute. At that fixed point, anyone at all must stand in the same position. From there a new history begins. It is not achieved in a before-and-behind relationship.

Likewise, when we set out the Unification Church today, there are many paths the Unification Church must cross. There is a pass one must cross as an individual, and a pass one must cross as a family, and a pass one must cross as a clan, and a pass one must cross as a people, and a pass one must cross nationally, and a pass one must cross worldwide. Within the tremendous Will called “Cosmos restoration,” one must cross eight stages of passes from the individual.

Then how will one cross this pass?

The problem is how sure you yourselves are equipped with a posture by which you can cross. A person who cannot go, however much one tells him to go and go, ends up unable to go. Furthermore, a person who cannot come, however much one tells him to come and come, likewise cannot come.

Then whose church is this Unification Church you believe in?

This is not the Teacher’s church. It is your church and “my” church. Whose ideology is the ideology of the Unification Church? It is not the Teacher’s ideology. If this were the Teacher’s ideology alone, it would be a sin against all people.

This is the ideology of all people and, at the same time, the ideology of the citizens of the Republic of Korea. Accordingly, a nation that pursues such an ideology is not one’s own grandfather’s nation alone. It becomes one’s own father’s nation too and becomes my nation too. This is in every respect parallel. It is not anyone’s alone.

From this viewpoint, you must clearly know what kind of position you stand in at present in the Unification Church as young people. Is it a position of saying I go individually?

Is it a position of saying I go in place of the family?

If one goes in place of the family, one must gather that family and make it possible to go in a straight line. Or when one says one goes for one’s own clan, one must gather that clan and go toward the same direction. Rather, one must set the family, if the family, or the clan, if the clan, before oneself and cross over.

You will have heard the words that liken Jesus to a shepherd who tends sheep, or a good shepherd. In a time of peace, when the shepherd drives the sheep along, he stands at the head and leads them; but in a dangerous time, he puts the sheep in front and drives them. Because we today fight with the satanic world behind us, it means we must put them in front and drive them. A person who does not stand in a position where he can do so can never become one of Heaven’s side. In this way, we must cross the pass the individual must cross and must cross the pass the family must cross.

Then what does the Unification Church today go for?

It is to cross the individual pass, and cross the family pass, and cross the clan pass, and cross the people pass, and cross the national pass. How has it been until now? It was a position of rallying the clan and crossing the people pass and crossing the national pass.

Then are you yourselves equipped with a direction by which you can keep step with that? If perhaps you go this road and cannot go and come to be defeated, you will come to suffer not only an individual grief of the defeated but even a national grief of the defeated.

When such a person goes to the spiritual world, it will be worse than if he had not known at all, and he will be full of regret. Spirits who are in hell can resign themselves because they did not know at all. But it means it is a great problem if, although God has prepared for us a final time in which we can cross the pass of national Restoration through Indemnity, one fails in responsibility and lets this time slip away. Therefore, in the Unification Church, it does not end merely with knowing.

If the whole is trying to cross the pass of national indemnity and one could oneself cooperate there and yet does not take part in it, for him the national pass becomes the last. But if one is loyal here and comes to stand in a position of crossing the national pass, one can follow along even though the road that the church goes on, the road that Will goes on, crosses beyond the world course and goes to the Cosmos course. And yet, if, although placed at the time when one must cross the national pass, one comes to be unable to go, one cannot pioneer a road by which one can go to the world or the Cosmos. It means one cannot receive the benefit.

Seek First the Kingdom and Its Righteousness

The longer the number of years since you entered the church, the more recognition you must receive. And yet, although the number of years since one entered the church is long, if one comes to keep step less with God, the sense of responsibility gradually grows thinner. If it becomes so, it means one is rather worse than a person who has newly entered.

You do not know when you may die while living.

If, in an age of national providence, knowing the Will of this providence, in such an environment where one must carry out the responsibility God has presented, one dies without crossing the pass one must cross, it means that is the end.

However much one tries, one cannot go, however much one would, to a world beyond the national pass. It means one comes to be blocked within the sphere of the fence of the nation.

From of old, countless people lived and departed from a plane position, but the question is whether they lived and departed centered on what is public. That “public” is not limited only to the nation. A public standard that is only for the nation vanishes when the nation perishes. That is why I say to follow the way of the sages. Then what kind of people are sages? People who live for the world rather than for the nation are sages. And what is the way of the sages, the teaching of the sages? It is teaching a method of living centered on a worldwide public standard. Why? Because even though the nation perishes, the world remains.

From this viewpoint, our Unification Church today is a Cosmos-ism church that says, “Let us live for heaven and earth.” It is a church that represents history.

If the Unification Church has lived so far until now, it means the matter is different. Within that world, the nation too is included, and within that world the people too are included, and within that world the clan too is included, and within that world the family too is included, and within that world the individual too is included.

Therefore, a person who has lived for the world can have the whole recognized at once as his standard of value.

Even though some mountaineer has not climbed many mountains and has not crossed many passes, if he climbs the summit of Mount Everest, the highest in the world, with that one thing, everything is resolved. Even though he had not climbed many mountains until then, through that one action he could stand in a position equal to the countless mountaineers who have climbed many mountains of the world.

That is why Jesus said,

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind (Matt. 22:37),”

and then said,

“Take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? … But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness (Matt. 6:31-33).”

Then what kind of kingdom is that kingdom?

It is a nation holding a mind that loves God, a nation God wishes to love. That kingdom speaks of the world.

What is that righteousness?

It is the way of living without deviating from the appointed course. Then, on such a course of restoration and also on your course of life, there are many passes one must cross; how will one cross these passes? This is the task given to you hereafter.

Now Is the Time to Make the Final Decision

What kind of position is the position our church aims at today?

It is a position of fighting a final decisive battle that comes but once. And yet one must not lose such a one-time opportunity while sitting still, and lose it while living, centered on one’s own thoughts, and lose it through action in one’s own manner.

If one loses that, one becomes a foolish person who meaninglessly forfeits the present point, which holds infinite value in this historical process. Such a person will not occupy one day of glorious victory. To put it another way, it means he will not be set up by God as a brave one of victory who has crossed the pass in the course of God’s providence.

That is why we must have a distinct view of purpose. One must go saying, “Even if I die, I die going this road. I will certainly go this road. However much the world says anything, however much anyone beside me says anything, my road to go is time-sensitive.” It is a road one may or may not be able to go on even if one goes without rest, night, or day. So it is an urgent road. Even if one is weary, one must go. Even if one is exhausted, one must go again. It is not that one goes alone but that one must exert influence upon the environment and lead along the people who follow one. The more a person shoulders such responsibility, the more he will become a person God remembers.

Then does it end with the individual alone crossing such a pass? No. If one crossed only as an individual, that person is a lonely person. One must get the family across. We who have a remaining road of destiny of restoration must, in any case, cross that pass. Another does not cross it in one’s place. It is not that someone saves one. It means I must cross it. It means one must oneself decide the five percent of authority given. I must cross that pass and find what is mine.

That is why Jesus died on the cross. This is not that he died because God could not save him. It is because there was a pass Jesus had to cross. Jesus had a past he himself had to cross to choose a bride.

If Jesus had welcomed a bride and achieved one family, there would again be a pass that family had to cross. And if that family had been set up before God, there would remain a pass one had to cross by connecting the clan centered on the family. In this way, it means a compounded environment of indemnity is waiting before us.

When we come to think of this, if among you there be a person who thinks he will cross the summit pass of the Providence of Restoration from a position of going if he wishes to go and not going if he wishes not to, as though it were play or a spectacle, that person is exceedingly foolish.

If One Would Stand on the Side of Goodness

You must make a grim resolve. Why must it be so? What are good and evil? Goodness is Heaven’s side, and evil is Satan’s side. We who follow God on the course of restoration today must stand only on the side of goodness. It must become so. One must not stand on the side of evil. When we set out on this fallen earth today, was I born in goodness? No. Am I living in goodness? No. It means one is burying one’s life and living here, where every movement of eating and living, every word and deed and thought, all take evil as their motive.

Then how great is the standard of goodness here? It is the size of a speck of dust.

If one were to become a person standing on Heaven’s side, the standard of goodness must be greater than the standard of evil.

Then at what time can God manage?

When goodness is small, God cannot intervene. So only when the weight of goodness and evil is similar within a buffer-zone sphere does a right arise by which God too can manage. This is the teaching of the Principle.

The fruit of the knowledge of good and evil is Eve, and Eve became the matrix of two worlds. What does that say? It means she became a middle position between good and evil.

Then who must decide the direction of good and evil?

One must decide it oneself. For that, one must smash evil and smash Satan and take hold of God. One must take hold of God several times more strongly than one strikes Satan. To strike evil, one must exert the strength of one’s whole body. At the same time, one must take hold of God with strength beyond that.

That is why the course of restoration is a course of indemnity, and the course of indemnity is a war of attrition.

If Satan demands a hundred, one must strike by adding strength corresponding to a hundred. After striking, one must take hold of God with strength beyond a hundred. Doing this is impossible with our human strength alone. It means it is possible only through there being the grace of the absolute God cooperating ninety-five percent.

Here there must be adventure. One must adventure and break through this road and go forth. It means God is always together with that position where one thinks this is the last and throws down one’s life and strikes Satan and advances. You will not know such things. When one reaches the final point of conclusion of adventuring at the last, God is without fail together. It means that apart from such a position, God cannot be together. This is the view seen in terms of the Principle.

Today the Korean peninsula is divided north and south, centered on the 38th Parallel. You know the fact that in Dr. Rhee’s time prisoners were released, do you not? They were set in a middle position and told to choose as they pleased and go. Who holds that right of choice? It is neither the North nor the South. It means one holds it only oneself.

Then have you become selves who can thus hold more weight in one world?

At present you yourselves are neither this nor that. One must put such a self on a level scale and weigh whether the right side, which is goodness, is strong, or the left side, which is evil, is strong. If the left is heavier, one is on Satan’s side.

Furthermore, do my eyes gaze upon the world, or gaze upon Heaven?

If one is gazing upon the world, that too is Satan’s side. That eye must rot. That body too must rot. It must become Satan’s food. The I who gazes upon Heaven must win.

Then when we say, “Let us cross the pass today,” where is the standard of departure for crossing the pass?

It means the departure is decided by whether the weight of goodness is great or small. Those who have not yet discerned this are all on Satan’s side. It means that it is not even a problem. Then in what position do you stand? You must think about this. In what position do you stand?

Because one was born into a world centered on material things, it is the normal road religion must go that one must depart from complete denial. Then what must you completely deny? One must deny everything from one’s own parents to one’s own brothers, society, the nation, the world.

If one does not do so, one cannot separate oneself from Satan. Therefore, when one completely denies me, a second I comes into being who can stand on the side of goodness. You must enter such a state.

Departure and Conquering the Summit

When one comes to feel a value beyond that of being able to serve one’s beloved parents and steps forth, one draws that much nearer to God. Only when one stands in a position where one can set right one’s own nation, this world, and every desire for oneself, into a desire for God, can Heaven’s side depart.

Otherwise, one cannot go toward the summit of restoration; one must cross. It means one cannot even depart. Even though one departs, one does not advance but comes to go around in circles.

That is why one must make such a notion certain within one’s sphere of living. For what do I go to school? For what do I study? The purpose must be certain. For the people of the world, if they say they go to university, it is to resolve their lives and to rise in the world. But it means our purpose is different.

We must do it to know a little more and be for the Will and become heavenly warriors for restoring this nation and this people. God looks after a person who studies to defend inside and out as a heavenly warrior.

If one does not do so but eats all one wishes to eat and plays all one wishes to play and does all one wishes to do while carousing and saying this too is good and that too is good, both come to nothing. God absolutely does not cooperate with a person who is in a position of playing while embracing both. Therefore, one must choose one of the two.

What kind of person is a wise person?

A person who judges the reason for things well is a wise person. Unification Church members must become wise people. If you know the Principle, it is made so that each comes to know clearly the road he must go. One comes to know clearly what kind of time this is. It is made so that one knows not vaguely but clearly and formulaically. This position in which you stand is not a trivial position. Having thus known clearly, one must make a new departure.

If one has departed, one must go straight toward the goal God is directing one toward. One must not think of another road. You must know that there are many passes one cannot cross otherwise.

If perhaps you think that if you fail while going the road of the Will, you will prepare again and go, that thought is a mistaken thought. If a player who has stepped forth to a final decisive arena has fallen out at some meet, the more that meet is worldwide, the more no one will recommend that player next time.

Therefore, once one has departed, one must become serious. It means it will not be done without staking one’s life.

Likewise, in your living hereafter, or in going the road of faith, how you will cross the passes that draw near is the problem. That is why one must cross the pass. In crossing, it means not to follow. People who move only when the Teacher gives an order and who lift their backsides and rise only when he scolds are no different upon going to that world. They are people who live merely gazing.

For us there remain the individual course of restoration, the family course of restoration, the clan course of restoration, the people course of restoration, the world course of restoration.

If before us there be a road on which one can be loyal to the world rather than a road on which one can be loyal to the nation, one must be loyal to the world. In that sense, it means the missionaries are at a near distance where they can receive a worldwide blessing.

Seen from this viewpoint, what pass will you cross hereafter?

And what pass are you now crossing? Where have you arrived? Or are you gazing upon that pass? Or is it not even so? One must clearly make evident in what position I indeed am.

If one were to depart to cross the pass, it would not be done without separating good and evil. One must separate good and evil and build a foundation of living for the self and make a resolve by which one can say, “Even if I die, I will die on the side of goodness, on the right, which is Heaven’s side.”

When one thus steps forth holding a new goal, one can normally cross the individual pass if an individual, which God has presented, and can cross the family pass if a family, and can cross the people pass if a people. Here it means that according to the resolve one has set for oneself, one may cross that pass or may not cross it. In this way, the question unfolds of how you will cross that pass.

As Graduates of Sunghwa, Fulfill That Mission

Though you have, of course, until now come forth following the Will, the road you must advance hereafter is still more important. The very words “Sunghwa student” will be able to stand in place of our church’s history. It means that the greater such a foundation is, the greater the problem. That figure of yours, as you go, will exert influence over the countless people who follow in later generations.

When, although one is in a position of having to cross a pass, one cannot cross it and cannot carry out responsibility, one comes to receive a judgment compounded tenfold or a thousandfold. That is why the Teacher, too, until now does not trust dropouts or problem figures even though they are Sunghwa graduates.

Sunghwa graduates are people who represent the church. Even among the candidates for the Blessing this time, whether one was a Sunghwa graduate or not became an issue. I saw many times that women and men alike asked each other whether one was a Sunghwa graduate. When we see that, even so, there are many people who seek to trust a Sunghwa graduate, you must re-recognize how serious a position the position in which you are placed is.

Hereafter, you must become ones who do not become a burden on the path the church must cross but can become an addition to the church. Only then will there be for you hereafter a road by which you can go to the people and the nation, or to the world. And yet when one has become a burden, the people who cross the pass of the nation and the world will not wish to go dragging a burden along. In crossing the pass, a person who becomes a burden is left behind.

From this viewpoint, you must become one who crosses each one’s own path that must be crossed. Because this is the church’s Will and the course of restoration, I hope you will remember that from now on each of you must make a new determination and, making evident in what position one is, depart anew. Do you understand? “Yes.” Let us pray.
