O Will, Be Accomplished

We know that, whether it be the Father who is in Heaven or the people living upon the earth, history is flowing on with the Will still unaccomplished. Yet you, too, will know well that this Will came to be unaccomplished not because of God but because of us human beings. To put it another way, it means that this Will came to fail because Adam and Eve fell.

The Accomplishment of the Will and the Carrying Out of Responsibility

That is why we know well that the course of history until now, the course of providence, is God’s coming down and laboring for the day when this failed Will can be gathered and accomplished as the original Will.

But for this Will to be achieved, a person who can achieve the Will is needed. God, passing through the long historical ages, chose from Adam’s family to Noah’s family, Abraham’s family, Moses’ family, and Joseph’s family, and established people who could uphold the Will.

If the person thus established fails in the responsibility of connecting Heaven’s relationship to the earth, then not even the direction by which the Will can be accomplished comes to be prepared. We have learned such a fact well through the course of providence.

When we look at our Unification Church today, the question is whether, on the course in which the Unification Church goes forward bearing the Will, this Will is accomplished or not. Because there is a Will that pertains to the individual and a Will that pertains to the whole, without people who can face the Will about the individual and people who can face the Will about the whole, the Will cannot be accomplished.

However much one has welcomed a time when the Will can be accomplished, if that person cannot carry out his responsibility, even the one time when the Will can be accomplished is lost.

The Conditions Necessary to Achieve the Will

To accomplish the Will, a person is without fail necessary, and next the time becomes the question. At all times, the time becomes the question. And at the same time, a condition that can accomplish the Will, related between the time and the person, is without fail necessary.

From this viewpoint, I will speak with the title “O Will, Be Accomplished.” How much must humankind have awaited this in the long course of history? It means that not we alone await this today, but that all the countless people who in the historical ages pursued goodness and stood on God’s side and stepped forth to confront the evil world held the mind that says, “O Will, be accomplished.”

Yet we have not until now welcomed a time when the Will has been accomplished. Countless people came and went seeking to accomplish the Will, but it means that a person who could accomplish that Will, in other words, a person who completely accomplished the purpose of the Will and made it Heaven’s own or the possession of our humankind, and such a time, have not yet appeared upon this globe.

The Unification Church has been manifested, centering on such a tremendous historic task. Therefore, not only the whole of the present membership of the Unification Church, but even the countless people who will enter hereafter, must hope that the Will be accomplished. You must know that this remains to us as the task we face.

Seen from this viewpoint, it means that the people of our Unification Church today must not be like the countless prophets who came and went centering on the Will until now.

If one becomes like the people who, in the course of history, were simply swept along by the environment of their age while facing the Will and then flowed away, it will be impossible to accomplish the Will at the present point.

Then what must be done?

We today must be superior in every aspect of facing the Will to the countless people who sought to face the Will in the past and who came forth facing the Will. Unless one sets before the Will a self superior to theirs in every field, such as the attitude of mind in facing the Will or the manner of living, it will be impossible to accomplish the Will.

Then, when we look at each individual, what differs between the people of old and the people of now? People are all the same. But the people of the past were simple when we look at their living environment or the world situation, or the various social systems, and so on. We, on the other hand, are living in complexity. We ourselves admit that we are placed in such a scattered environment.

When we look at the environment of that age, in which they faced the Will in a simple era and poured out all their strength with single-hearted devotion, I do not regard them as having stood above us today. Even from a simple position, they faced the Will and poured out all their strength, yet they did not achieve it.

If so, we must know the fact that we who face the Will in a scattered environment today cannot accomplish the Will without double their effort and double their loyalty.

Only by Possessing a Heart Beyond Jesus’ and Devoting Sincerity Can the Will Be Achieved

Among the people of the past, no one said he would achieve the Will all by himself. To achieve the Will, they without fail hoped for God’s cooperation. It is a fact, needless to say, that the more insufficient they were, the more they hoped for God’s cooperation.

Likewise, we ourselves, to achieve this Will, are hoping for God’s cooperation.

Then even in hoping for cooperation, we must double our sincerity compared with the people of the past. To put it another way, if the people of the past devoted a hundred measures of sincerity, we must devote a thousand measures, ten thousand measures. Thus we cannot but consider whether, even in hoping for God’s cooperation, the accomplishment of the Will is not impossible without being equipped with an internal and external aspect superior to theirs.

Countless prophets and noble forebears came and went in the historical ages, but among them Jesus Christ came and went upon this earth as the Son of God. The conclusion emerges that we must be superior to the standard of heart (심정) of that serious position in which he, having passed through some thirty years of life, prayed decisively at the last moment of going toward the cross,

“O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt (Matt. 26:39).”

Then what must differ between Jesus’ facing God the Father and our facing God the Father today? The inner heart (심정) with which Jesus faced God and the inner heart with which we face God today must differ. To put it another way, it means we cannot help but draw this conclusion: without holding a relationship in which the hearts of those who live in this age can stand above Jesus’ heart, it will not do.

Then do I possess such a heart (심정) as Jesus had when he prayed earnestly before God in the Garden of Gethsemane?

This cannot but become the question. Next, one must consider the position in which Jesus prayed. Jesus did not pray so because he feared the death drawing near to him. One must know Jesus’ circumstances, in which he could not but pray such a prayer because he was in a position of losing the people and nation of Israel that God had come seeking. These are sorrowful circumstances and a pitiable situation. Here we can catch a glimpse of Jesus, who was placed in an extreme position from which he could not turn back, however he would.

Today we must hold an attitude of mind that faces the questions of the people and the nation and further of the world, rather than of our people. Knowing this as the mission we ourselves must carry out and the responsibility of the age we must bear, we must writhe and go forward. And thus our selves must reach a position beyond Jesus’ relationship of heart (심정). This is the question.

In “O Will, be accomplished,” “Father, let it be as Thou willest,” the wish remains in the future. To fill in the gap between present and future, one must go the road of indemnity that pays a price in blood and must go the road of death by way of the cross. You must know that without that, there is a pit that cannot be filled. With this tremendous Will before us in our age, the question is how we ourselves, who face the Will with the wish that says “O Will, be accomplished,” attain through experience a heart (심정) beyond that with which Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane.

How serious must Jesus’ position have been, as he bore responsibility for the whole while being anxious over God’s four thousand years of providential history toward Israel, knowing that if Israel lost him, the fortune of Israel would decline and God’s blessing would be transferred to the Gentiles?

We must become selves who surpass the heart (심정) of Jesus, who writhed in such a serious position. Otherwise, it means we are far too insufficient to resolve the han and accomplish it for the road of death Jesus went, saying, “O Will, be accomplished.” So in becoming a true person who can accomplish the Will, that is the question.

God’s Will and Our Attitude

When you yourselves, centering on the work, follow the Will and say, “O Will, be accomplished,” it is not that my individual self will accomplish it. In saying “Be accomplished,” the subject is God, and we are in the reciprocal position. We are selves in a reciprocal position who must become one body with that subject. Yet because the Will is something that God and we must achieve together, it is God’s requirement and the mission remaining to us that we must without fail accomplish this Will.

When we consider the question of how to connect Heaven’s Will and our mission, our individual selves alone will not do. That inner heart (심정) with which Jesus, facing the cross and praying his last decisive prayer, appealed, “Father, let it be as Thou willest,” must be in us today as well.

Your individual will and God’s Will differ. When we look at centering on each individual, the environment in which each is placed is all different. Because the circumstances in which one is placed, or the historical background, or the environment of the age are all different, each holds his conviction centering on that different content. Such an individual's will and God’s Will, centered on the whole Providence of Restoration, are content that cannot harmonize in a hundred cases out of a hundred. It means the more such content there is, the more the degree of possibility of accomplishing the Will falls.

Seen from this point, we who must accomplish the Will must disregard every factor centered on ourselves, which is my will, and lead a life that gives expression to the factors of the whole centered on God. The question is how one leads such a life, and how one establishes a standard of character by which one can give expression to the whole character of Heaven, centering on one’s own self.

That is why one must hold an attitude of mind that says, I was born for the Will, I live for the Will, and apart from that, I can require nothing else at all. To put it another way, one must always keep within one’s sphere of living a position where one can settle it decisively with the requisite of that prayer in which Jesus said, “Father, not as I will, but as Thou willest.” And thus one must be able to say, “Since I have stood in a position where I can achieve the Will, O Father who governs the Will, instruct me and command me concerning the Will.” Isn't the question of how to unfold such a position within my sphere of living, in the course of my life, the most important question for us who stand in a position of having to accomplish the Will?

In “Not as I will, but as the Father willest,” there can be no my will. It means there cannot be even a little of my will. You must know that. Through the Father’s Will being achieved, my will is wholly completed. What is called my will, centered on myself alone, does not cross the boundary line of the will that can be achieved within the sphere of the citizenry if a citizen.

If a nation, it means it is difficult to cross the boundary line at which the will can be achieved within that national sphere. Furthermore, in this world, it is difficult to cross the boundary line in the world.

But the Will centered on the Father transcends historicity. Because it is a Will transcending time and space, a person who stands within the sphere of that Will comes to stand in a position of having already achieved his own will. It becomes so. It means one comes to stand in a position where one's will has already been achieved.

Then what is my original will?

My will must be something that can be born from Heaven and live from Heaven and receive its purpose from Heaven. We must be able to stand in a position where we can say, “The Will has been achieved,” even without praying a decisive prayer. From such a viewpoint, one must discover a self that can cross beyond such requisites, centering on the Will that Jesus, praying decisively in the Garden of Gethsemane, held as ideal, and must discover a self that can continue eternally through that Will. And thus one must hold the self-awareness and subject consciousness that I have been set before the Will. How one attains this through experience cannot but be an important question.

One Must Meet the Time Well

But even though one has become such a person, if the time when the Will can be achieved has not come, the Will is not achieved. However much one has become a person who can achieve the Will, it means that if the time has not come, it will not do. Just as in a single day, too, there is morning and midday and evening and night, so also in the process of achieving the Will there is without fail a time of morning, a time of midday, a time of evening, and a time of night. Those times must not be reversed.

However fine a person one has become, who can achieve the Will, without correctly fitting the point regarding the time, one does not achieve the Will. Why did Jesus fail to achieve the Will? That time could not be a time that could keep the beat with Jesus. To put it another way, it means he could not be equipped with the relationship of the environment.

It means that the time did not ripen to become an environmental time when, nationwide, all the citizenry above and below and left and right could be in accord and welcome Jesus entirely. That is why Jesus, to meet that time, passed through the period called the three-year course and adjusted the time.

But because Jesus’ three-year course for fitting the time went awry, Jesus never met that time and departed, leaving it as a time that we, passing through two thousand years of history, must achieve. It became so.

Then what has our Unification Church today been like?

The Unification Church is too. It did not meet that time. In the Republic of Korea, the time when the Unification Church set out and the time when the religious world of the Republic of Korea could face God’s Will did not stand upon a standard where they could correspond with each other on a parallel line. Because here a repulsion unfolded and a conflict unfolded, we lost many times. Losing countless times, we welcomed the 1970s.

Then, in the process of time thus flowing on, which time is the most appropriate time at which one can see the consummation of the Will and can see the accomplishment of the Will? That time must, without fail, exist on the course of our Unification Church. Of course, the sixties too will remain as an age of achieving the Will, and the seventies too as an age of achieving the Will. But when we ask which time among them is more precious, the seventies are a more important period than the sixties.

The Sixties Were the Age of Foundation, the Seventies the Age of Practice

Seen in terms of the Will, until the sixties it was a period for laying the foundation of the church. It means it was a period for consolidating the foundation of the church. What this means is that it was a period of being equipped with an external environment such that, although Christianity was opposed until now, one overcame that so that it would not oppose.

Originally, centering on six thousand years of history, Christianity ought to have borne fruit. But because Christianity was opposed, our Unification Church itself pioneered a course to meet the time. You must know that this age is the sixties. To put it another way, it means this age was for us an age of indemnity.

Because they sought to achieve the ideal Will centering on Christianity, which ought to have borne the fruit of the six-thousand-year historic age of indemnity, and yet could not achieve that Will, there must be a period of indemnifying this again horizontally. It means that period was the sixties, now past. In this period, one had to pay the price with tears, and had to pay the price with blood, or had to pay the price with every other kind of sacrifice.

Although we paid such a price, that price was not a price for which we could confidently be recompensed by God. Yet it was not paid as a price that would vanish forever.

If a thousand people pay a price, it brings a fruit that a thousand people can receive; but it means that the price we paid in the sixties became only a condition by which the Unification Church could welcome once and did not bring such a result as could achieve the completion of the time.

Then what kind of time are the seventies?

It means they are a time when, if we sacrifice, we can receive a price to the extent that we sacrificed. In that sense, it means the sixties and the seventies differ as ages. What this means is that in doing any work, there is without fail a time of laying the foundation, a time of practice, and next a time of accomplishment. But without the foundation being laid, one cannot practice, and without practicing, one cannot accomplish.

So for our Unification Church, the sixties were a time of laying the ground. To put it another way, it was an age of coming forth, attaching the signboard of a religion, and laying a foundation as the Unification Church.

Now the seventies are an age of practice for the Unification Church.

Accomplishment is not achieved without fail passing through a process of practice. Even though the foundation has been laid, with the foundation alone, accomplishment does not come about. The time of practice, of how to carry this out upon that foundation, or how to practice it, is more important.

When spring comes, there is a time when the farmer sows seed, a time when the sown seed sprouts and grows, and a time when it bears fruit. Likewise, there is a period of preparing the ground to sow seed and a period of growing, that is, a period of practice. This period of practice is the most important time, on which everything depends. That is why one must do well in this period. For our Unification Church, the seventies are a period of practice. A period of practice for what? It is a period in which one must practice for the accomplishment of the Will.

Then does everything we practice vanish along with history? It means it does not vanish but brings a fruit for accomplishing the Will.

If one sows seed and that seed grows, the seed vanishes. Yet as the price of the vanished seed, one new life sprouts. That seed and that life are absolutely different. That is why, if it be rice, until this life bears fruit centering on this life, every labor of the owner must be added. Fertilizer must be given, and every benefit of heaven and earth and nature must be added for it to be knotted as fruit.

Likewise, through everything we labored at in the sixties, one sprout called the Unification Church came forth. Today, upon this earth, there are countless religions. Compared to grain, it is like countless grains being planted in fields and plains. Rice or foxtail millet, or corn and the like, the five grains are planted there, and it means that at least one sprout called the Unification Church has sprouted and, holding its existence, has begun to show a green color.

Become One Who Exerts Influence Upon the World

Then what is the question from now on?

It is how to ripen this fully and bear the perfect fruit God desires. When we consider the law of nature, it means we have come upon an important period. To put it another way, it means we have arrived at the most precious period as a period of practice in which the Will can be accomplished. Because we enter an age of practice from this year upon the ground where such a foundation was laid in the past, it is more precious.

The second seven-year course will end by 1974. And from 1975 to 1981 is the period of the third seven-year course. So these seventies are the most important period for our Unification Church, in which the second seven-year course and the third seven-year course are connected to the last crisis.

The time has already ripened, and it has become an environment for welcoming the age of practice we desired. Even though such an age of practice has come, in what position are the people who can practice? The time, equipped with the environmental requisites by which the Will can be accomplished, has drawn near before our eyes; but what of us ourselves, who must practice centering on this time? This cannot but become the question.

Now, when we gaze upon Christianity and all the situations of the world, it means that those who oppose us do not tread upon us and rise above us, but rather they have entered a sphere in which they can be influenced by our movement.

Compared to a single day, this is the same as their having welcomed sunset and our having welcomed morning. The light of the setting sun will, as time goes on, have twilight settle upon it more and more and become night; and the light of morning will, as time goes on, on the contrary, become bright midday. That is why it means we have arrived at a truly grave period of the process of practice.

Now that you have come to know that the time has come, you must fulfill all that a human being must practice and exert influence upon the world. If you fail to exert influence, you will be accused. It becomes so.

Because the people of Israel failed to fit the time centering on Jesus, to revive that time, they wandered as suffering strangers for two thousand years. It was so even in the time of laying the foundation; then what would happen if we today, being in the process where accomplishment is possible and being in an environment where we can practice this from a position of gazing upon the accomplishment of the Will, fail to fit this time?

If the people of Israel, who failed to fit the time in an age of laying the foundation, passed through two thousand years of a course of suffering to meet once when they could revive, would not the destiny that comes upon our Unification Church or the Republic of Korea be more wretched than that?

When we consider that we are in such a position, the members of our Unification Church must unite as one and, centering on this one prepared time, in other words, this good time in which we can practice, exert its effect in every direction. Is this not the responsibility that unification believers must fulfill, centering on the seventies hereafter? You must bear such questions in mind.

The Three Absolute Factors for the Completion of Restoration through Indemnity

Then, when the time and the person for accomplishment have been prepared, what is needed here?

A condition is without fail needed. However fine a person may be, and however much the time is prepared, one must be equipped with a condition that can be presented. Preparing this condition differs for each of you. Because one’s inborn nature differs and each one’s disposition differs, it means the course of indemnity each must go is all different. For the completion of Restoration through Indemnity, a person is necessary, a period is necessary, and a condition is necessary. These are absolute factors.

So although the dispositions of each of us who must do that work differ, since we have now been equipped with character and have welcomed the time, a condition is necessary here. What will this condition be? Here one must without fail be equipped with the right direction.

Your original nature and the direction you yourselves must go must coincide with the standard as God sees it. Up until the moment of saying, “Abba Father, not as I will, but as Thou willest,” it means the direction is not in accord. It means the Father’s Will and my will are not in accord.

So it means the direction must be in accord. It means one must present the condition from a position where the direction is in accord. For instance, if God is gazing eastward and one presents a conditional object while gazing westward, it cannot get through. It means one must present the conditional object from a position in accord with God.

Then what is that conditional object?

It is the conditional object Adam and Eve lost in the Garden of Eden. They lost the Word, lost the substance, and lost heart (심정). To put it another way, what are called the three great offerings are as well for finding this. Then what are the three great offerings? Overall, it is to find sons and daughters. The three great offerings are that.

If it is a forty-day period, what is one to do centering on those forty days?

In forty days, the three great conditional objects are to find three sons and daughters. That is, it is to find three people. These three people are the types of the three sons of the Old Testament Age, the New Testament Age, and the Completed Testament Age. Also, this conditional object corresponds to the three angels, and this conditional object also stands in place of three generations. For instance, it becomes the substitute for Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And that, for me, also becomes my father and myself and my descendants. It becomes so.

That also becomes, on the horizontal side, when seen centering on myself, the representative type of the Four Position Foundation. What must be done in order to restore all of this conditional object? One must become one body with the Word. It means one must become a person in accord with that Word. But even though one is a person who has become one body with the Word, it will not do unless one’s heart (심정) is in accord with God.

That is why, in being equipped with direction, one must be equipped with a direction in accord with the Word that God aims at and desires, a direction in accord with God’s character, a direction in accord with God’s heart (심정). Here we can restore the sons and daughters of faith who become conditions of indemnity.

When Jesus took the three disciples and went up to the Garden of Gethsemane and prayed, the direction between Jesus and the three disciples was not in accord. It seemed they were equipped with the condition and form of three sons, but Jesus’ will and the disciples’ will were different.

There was a difference between God’s Will and Jesus’ will, and there was also a difference between Jesus’ will and the disciples’ will. It means God’s Will ought to have been Jesus’ will, and Jesus’ will ought to have been the disciples’ will.

Centering on Jesus, from a position where above there is God and below one can represent the earth, they ought to have gone toward a goal totalized into one standard, centering on a direction that could be in accord with the three realms of formation, growth, and completion. Yet what writhed from a position of mutual conflict was the prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. It means the content of praying as many as three times is such. Praying once would have been enough; for what reason did he pray as many as three times? The problem lies here.

Seen from this viewpoint, the Father’s Will and your will and the will of the sons and daughters of faith you will restore hereafter must be in accord. These three generations of wills must become one vertically, and centering on this, God and you and your sons and daughters of faith must become one. Because the vertical must be indemnified horizontally, it means there must without fail be three sons. From such a position, one must present the conditional object.

Therefore, without presenting a condition from a position where the time is in accord and the person is in accord and the direction is in accord, the Will is not achieved. However much one prays, “O Will, be accomplished,” and however great a grace one has received by praying, from a position that is not in accord, that grace does not become one’s own. Grace must, without fail, meet the time and pass through that point. With merely having welcomed the time, it will not do either. Only when, from a position where the Will God desires and my will are in accord, the conditional object God desires and the conditional object I have presented come into accord, is the Will at last accomplished.

Three Generations Must Become One and Achieve the Four Position Foundation

From a position of gazing upon the seventies, the Teacher feels his responsibility. I know that there is a responsibility. From the time we entered the seventies, we have already come to be in a position of being able to receive the time God has prepared. Therefore, one must present here a conditional object that can be in accord with this. Among the conditional objects that must be presented, there is the conditional object the Teacher himself must offer, but there is also the conditional object the Unification Church must offer.

To put it another way, just as God’s Will and Jesus’ will and his disciples’ will had to be in accord, so God’s Will and the will centered on the Unification Church and the Teacher’s will must be in accord. Furthermore, the Teacher’s will and your will as you face the Teacher must be in accord.

In being in accord, one must be in accord in a straight line. From positions apart from one another, there is no accord. It means that if one tries to bring things into accord centering on oneself, it does not work. One must bring them into mutual accord in a straight line and go forward.

That is why Jesus had to bring God’s Will and his own will into accord. And thereafter, he had to bring them into accord with the disciples’ will. Yet that did not come about. When it becomes so, though one would go one’s own road, one cannot go. It means one cannot go any road apart from the cross, nothing beyond it. It means one cannot determine such a road.

To achieve the Will, one must already have determined the road and stand in a position where, upon a decisive foundation, one can say, “I now go.” To put it another way, it means one must bring things into accord with God’s Will centering on one purpose and direction. Without becoming one body, it will not do.

Among those who believed in the Unification Church and then fell away, some people say, “The words of the Unification Church are good, but must one necessarily attend church on that account? Even without attending church, it is enough to live according to those words.” That does not work that way. Because the vertical history must be indemnified horizontally, you must come to church. It is set out exactly in the Principle.

Then when we look at our Unification Church itself, God’s Will and the Teacher’s will and your will must be in accord. First, that must come about. Then one must take the direction, and then one must present the conditional object. Unless that is in accord, however much the time has ripened, the accomplishment of the Will is absolutely impossible. These three generations must be joined and stand in a position the same as one offering. When we look, centering on the whole of universal history, there is no road but the road of becoming one.

That is why God has labored until now?

It is that He established a person in accord with God’s Will and, centering on that person, made his descendants be in accord. Achieving accord in this way is the Four Position Foundation. When we look at the family, it is three generations. Centering on God, with Adam and his children, it comes in the end to three generations. Is that not so? Why is the Four Position Foundation necessary? It is because when this is achieved, the Will is achieved. But if the Four Position Foundation is not completed, a world in which vertical and horizontal are in accord is not achieved. What is called the Four Position Foundation means three generations coming into accord.

In Jesus’ age, the ones who had to achieve the Four Position Foundation with Jesus, centering on God, were Peter, James, and John. Yet they did not become one. If they did not become one, the Will could not be accomplished. Through that, God’s suffering remained as God’s suffering, and Jesus’ suffering came to remain as Jesus’ suffering, and the disciples’ suffering remained as the disciples’ suffering.

That suffering too was divided and did not come into accord. It means they did not receive suffering from a position of being in accord with one mind. God felt his hardship as God, and Jesus felt his hardship as Jesus, and the disciples felt their hardship as the disciples.

Then at what time do these three generations of hardship become bound together? Because they cannot be bound together without crossing the pass of death, Peter, James, and John came to stand in a position of crossing the pass of death through Jesus. Through that, they could at last be in accord with Jesus’ will and in accord with God’s Will. Otherwise, there is no way to be in accord.

The disciples, who had given hardship to God and given hardship to Jesus, had eternally and eternally no way of being redeemed, but by crossing over the road of death, they came to be equipped with a foundation of heart (심정) and a foundation of practice. Through this, they set themselves, who had been opposed to the direction of the Will, in a position in accord with the Will. This is how we see it.

The Problem Is You Yourselves

God’s Will is not something vague.

Then how does God’s Will stand concretely?

God clearly has a Will as He faces these people today. You must become those who can take responsibility for such a Will of God and go forward. After becoming such an individual, one must become such a family and must become such a clan and people and nation. One must become a person who can take responsibility for this. That is why the person is important.

That is why: what is the center of heaven and earth? It means it is my very self. It means that without each of you as individuals, the Will cannot be achieved. It means that without me, neither the will of the family, nor of the clan, nor of the people, nor of the nation, nor of the world can be achieved. That is why I am the problem.

Accordingly, one must achieve God’s Will centering on oneself. It means my self must become a matrix of victory before the descendants. So on the day my one self goes in the wrong direction, everything is broken. When we look centering on our Unification Church, it means the Teacher has come, taking responsibility for both sides, between God and you.

From this viewpoint, when we look at centering on the accomplishment of the Will, it means that for us these 1970s are an age of practice in which, upon a ground where the foundation has been laid, the Will can truly be accomplished. Then how do we go through this age of practice? Do we go winding this way and that? Do we go straight? If one goes winding this way and that, the distance grows longer. So one must go straight. The problem unfolds from here. If one goes by the long road, it can take a thousand years. It means that if one goes wrong, it becomes so.

Then how does one go straight?

One cannot go straight alone. One must attend to God and go together. That is why it was not “I will accomplish” but “Be accomplished.” One must attend to God and go. It is not that God goes at the head. Because the human being fell, the human being must go at the head. It means you must go at the head.

Next, one must lead along people who will resemble oneself. In every respect, that person must be in accord with the parent. Jesus’ three disciples ought to have been in accord with Jesus. It means they ought to have become three disciples who could die first, before Jesus went forth to a position of death.

Jesus ought not to be struck. It means that even if he were killed, the inner bone ought not to be broken. The disciples are in the position of the external flesh. So before Jesus, who is the bone, is struck, the disciples, who are in the position of the flesh, must be struck first. That is why, when the killing comes, the disciples must fulfill the responsibility of dying first.

When we analyze, setting out the position of the members of the Unification Church today and the Teacher, who are those who have caused the Teacher to be struck until now? It means it is the members of the Unification Church. It was not entirely outside people who struck. It was the members of the Unification Church who caused him to be struck.

So when we ask who the enemy is, it means it is the members of the household. When we ask who the people are who pained the parent’s breast and caused him anxiety and complicated the road he goes, it means it is not the people of the world but you members of the Unification Church; it means you did such things as ruin both the world and Heaven.

Who would be the one who did such a thing? The fallen archangel did so. Was it not Satan who ruined both the world and Heaven? When we look from such a position, it means it fits you exactly. So what is it that becomes the greatest problem? It means it is precisely your selves.

The Road That Goes the Road of Death Is the Road That Achieves the Will

“O Will, be accomplished”; for the sake of that, you must attend God. It means you must attend to God in your mind. It means you must attend to God in your minds and educate your children rightly. It must be so. You must educate your children rightly. A person who bears responsibility must not tell them to do it perfunctorily. Such is a parent.

There are no parents who teach their children wrongly. A teacher can teach a disciple wrongly. If it is a teacher in the position of an enemy, he can even teach to ruin them. There can be two kinds of teachers. There can be two kinds of brothers too. But a parent is one alone. However evil a parent may be, he teaches his child rightly.

Accordingly, God and I and my child must become one. Where must that become one? It is not becoming one after going to the spiritual world. It must become one upon the earth, upon this earth. And the place where that becomes one is not a comfortable resting place. It is upon the course of the cross. It means one becomes one upon the course of the cross. To put it another way, it means one comes into accord on the very front line where God and Satan stand opposed.

So this year we must become one on such a front line. One must prepare an attitude of mind that says one will become one on the front line and cross over into the seventies. When one crosses over into the seventies holding such a mind, is not the fundamental content by which the Will can be accomplished determined?

When you go out to the provinces to witness and meet difficult things, God is without fail with you there. When one shoulders the cross and enters a position of offering one’s life and everything for God from an earnest position, God without fail teaches. Just as when Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane said,

“Abba Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt (Matt. 26:39),”

God intervened there and appeared as the object of all inquiry, holding decisive authority, so it means that when you stand in such a position, God without fail teaches.

Then why does God do such a thing?

It is to find sons and daughters who can be brought into accord with God’s heart (심정). For what has God been walking the road of suffering until now and conducting the Providence of Restoration? It is to find sons and daughters. He does such a thing for the sake of that. It is to find sons and daughters, that is, Adam and Eve. Then why have people labored centering on God until now? It is to find their sons and daughters and achieve the Four Position Foundation. It becomes so.

From such a viewpoint, in God’s coming, seeking one man if a man and one woman if a woman, it means He holds a double purpose. That is, it is not only to restore Adam and Eve but to restore even their sons and daughters and thereby restore the Four Position Foundation.

Then who restores the Four Position Foundation?

Each of you must restore it. It means I must do it. I must be in accord with God and also in accord with sons and daughters. One must find and educate sons and daughters of faith and set them up as sons and daughters of faith who can go the road of death in one’s place. Only then is one complete foundation of rest at last prepared. If one only settles this standard in one’s own generation, one can go forth to a position even greater than Jesus.

When Jesus came to go the road of death, Peter, James, and John all forsook Jesus and fled. But if, when you yourselves go forth on the road of death, the sons, and daughters you have found and established centering on the Will step forth saying they will die in your place, from there the heavenly kingdom unfolds. It means that if Jesus’ disciples had done so, even if Jesus had died there, there would have been no need to be resurrected on earth. It means that if the standard is established on earth, Jesus and the Holy Spirit can become one body and carry out earthly operations. It means that even a spiritual Four Position Foundation, if such a ground is established, can fight upon the earth.

But because Jesus died without coming into accord with the disciples, Jesus the bridegroom ascended to Heaven, and the Holy Spirit the bride descended to earth, and the sons and daughters came to be in a position of floating in the air. It is set out that way. It means Jesus, who is the father, ascended to Heaven, and the Holy Spirit, who is the mother, descended to earth, and the sons and daughters are drifting round and round in the air. This is because a plane ground was not prepared on earth.

The Accord of Word, Character, and Heart, and the Perfected Substance

Then what is it that we wish for?

It is to make a substantial ground centered on spirit and body upon this plane foundation. For that, one must achieve the Four Position Foundation centered on God. And thus from here one must go on accomplishing God’s Will. On the day this is settled, one comes to stand in a position of having achieved what Jesus could not achieve. When it becomes so, the Father’s Will and my will are not different from each other, but the Father’s Will is at the same time my will. It means one crosses beyond that position in which he prayed,

“Abba Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt (Matt. 26:39).”

So in the end, it means that position is a position of having accomplished. For you yourselves to accomplish the Will, you must without fail be in accord with God’s Word. It will not do if one cannot be in accord with that Word and practice. Furthermore, one must be in accord with God’s character and in accord with God’s heart (심정).

That Adam fell was also because he was not in accord with God’s Word. Through not being in accord with the Word, he did not become the perfected substance, which is the purpose of the Word. It means the standard of character was not offered before God. Through that, God’s perfect love did not form a relationship with a completed standard of character. In the end, the Word is for making a substance. Accordingly, love too is not established unless the substance is completed. Without becoming the perfected substance, there is no road of harmony.

From this viewpoint, when we look centering on love and the Word and character, Adam is not a person within the sphere of some fence. He is a worldwide person. It means Adam and Eve are the center of all nations. That is why you must hold the actual feeling that says, “The Word I hold is a worldwide Word, a Word representing all nations; and I, having appeared in the world, have appeared to confront the Satan who has trampled the world; and the love I practice is a love like the movement of blood flowing from the artery connected to God’s heart.”

The Word is for re-creating Adam and Eve, who were lost in the Garden of Eden. That is why, when one comes to stand in a position in accord with that Word, one can subjugate even Satan; and once one has subjugated Satan, God’s love comes automatically.

What is called the completion of character means that standard of subjugating Satan. Therefore, the completion of character does not come about without subjugating Satan. Because character was wrecked through Satan’s intervening, without completely removing Satan, the completion of character does not come about.

For you to remove Satan, you must go out to the front line where God and Satan stand opposed. Otherwise, there is no road by which one can subjugate Satan. It means it is impossible in the rear. So one must go to the front line.

That is why Jesus too went seeking the line of the cross. One must go seeking toward the crossroads of death. Because that place is the supreme front line where God and Satan confront each other, one must go to that place. It means the road by which one can subjugate Satan is that road, that one road alone.

You must know that. To put it another way, from where does the accomplishment of the Will come about? It is from the front-line zone where Satan is. It means the base for resolving every problem is here.

That is why the road our Unification Church has walked until now, the road the Teacher has walked, was always the front line. It means it was always the very front line. Officers and soldiers who guard the front line have not a moment’s rest at any time. They cannot be off guard. It means there is no knowing when the enemy will attack me. One must carry on such a life from the individual all the way to the boundary line called the family, clan, people, and nation.

To Find, Cast Everything Away

Jesus sought upon this earth to lead the people of Israel and the Judaic body that guided that people and to form a ground that could resist the Roman Empire, and thereby to restore the world. When we consider that this was the position, it means that we today have entered a stage of gathering up Israel, that is, an age in which we must resolve the han and accomplish it for the long-cherished wish of the people. It means we are placed at a point when, from a grave position of whether we find the nation or not, we must find and cross over such a standard as Jesus hoped for.

To find the individual, one must sacrifice everything of the individual. To find the family completely, one must sacrifice everything of the family. It means one must fling it away. It must be so. To find the clan completely, one must enter a position of losing the clan itself completely. The saying that he who would die shall live is said about such a thing. To find the people, one must go holding an attitude of mind that can completely cast away the people before God’s Will.

What one calls “mine” is not mine. The Unification Church too is not the possession of Teacher Moon, who leads the Unification Church. Everything is the nation’s. So it means one must, one way or another, offer it up quickly to the nation. It means let us seek a road by which we can offer it up quickly. Furthermore, the Republic of Korea is the world’s, so let us carry on an operation of seeking a road by which we can offer it quickly to this world. You as individuals are the family’s. So it means go seeking a road by which you can be offered up quickly for the family. It must be so.

The satanic world is the opposite. That one sacrifices the family, centering on oneself, and centering on one’s own family sacrifices one’s relatives, and centering on one’s own relatives, the people, and centering on one’s own people, has moved the nation, is the practice until now. But in our Unification Church, it is the reverse. It means the view is different. Our nation is a nation for the world, our people are a people for the nation, our clan is a clan for the people, my family is a family for the clan, and I, as an individual, am one for the family.

Where and to what degree will one exert influence in one’s lifetime and depart? How much influence you exert and depart, from your family to the clan, the people, the nation, and the world, becomes your standard of character when you go to that world. It means it becomes the standard of resurrection when you go to that world. Seeing such things means I am the problem.

The time has already ripened, and we have entered a good time in which we can practice. The time has come when, if you devote merit, a fruit is harvested to the extent you devoted merit. It differs from the old days. Because bygone days were an age of indemnity, however much merit one devoted, it was not harvested.

That is why what is important is myself and the time and the condition to be presented. Without holding a standard in which God’s Will, that is, God’s direction and my direction and my children’s direction, are in mutual accord, one cannot accomplish the Will. Alone it will not do. Without joining three generations, the accomplishment of the Will does not come about. Do you understand? Furthermore, even though the three generations have been joined, that joined thing must be in the front-line zone. It must be the front-line zone. Do you understand? Is it so, or is it not? “It is so.” It is not the rear.

Then where is the supreme front line on the road the Unification Church goes? If it be the Republic of Korea, where is the supreme front line of the Republic of Korea? If the people standing there only become one centering on the Will, the Will is achieved. Is that not so? Then where is the supreme front line of the world? It is not Africa. Those standing at the supreme front line are the people who are governing the world. It becomes so. Seen in terms of people, it is so.

Seen from this viewpoint, who was the substantial enemy that appeared on the front line where Jesus prayed? It was the people who held the power of that nation. Would it not be so? Who were the people who appeared as the enemies who dragged Jesus off to kill him? They were the statesmen of that time, or the scribes and the chief priests. It becomes so.

Then where is our front line?

The Republic of Korea is the front line. Of course it will be Kim Il Sung in the North, but in restoring the Republic of Korea, it means that the statesmen who are governing in the present government are the problem. It means the question remains of how to move them and make them submit before the Will.

Become One with the Teacher and Be One Who Does Not Change

If this problem is resolved, then problems unfold worldwide. That is why it is a difficult problem. It is a difficult problem. We have worked from the provinces until now to solve such a problem. So we must go forward with such achievements. Achievements must precede publicity. When achievements run ahead of publicity, there is without fail victory on that road.

For that, a person must exist, and the time must fit, and a condition must exist. The time must, without fail, fit, and you must be in an attitude to go forward there. Next, what is it? A conditional object must be prepared, and the conditional object is determined in the front-line zone with three generations in accord.

So this year the Teacher intends to carry out a two-sided operation. He intends to unfold an operation toward the upper levels and an operation toward the local grassroots and thereby settle this. From this year, we intend to unfold this operation.

Because one cannot achieve the Will alone, you yourselves must attend to God and restore children and achieve a Four Position Foundation centered on three generations. Otherwise, the Will is not accomplished. This is the six thousand years of history and the course of struggle through which God has conducted the Providence of Restoration until now.

Then what is the Four Position Foundation you can set forth before God? However much you yourselves have accomplished the Will nationally, if you have not achieved the Four Position Foundation, it means you are a cripple. One must settle the Four Position Foundation and lay even the foundation for exerting influence upon the nation. You understand, do you not? “Yes.”

So the members of our Unification Church must become one with the Teacher and be able to go wherever in this nation they are told to go to witness. If, when told, “Go to such a place,” one says, “Aigo, I have such and such circumstances now, so I cannot go,” does that get through? Does it get through, or not? “It does not get through.” Circumstances arising from the affairs of the world do not get through. Saying it cannot be done because of school does not get through either.

It is a matter of person to person. Is it not so? It is a matter of human being to human being, not a matter of human being to society. What becomes the problem first is the Teacher and each of you as individuals. It means do not thrust other indirect matters in here. Such problems as because of school, because of the house, because of the husband, because of the wife, because of the son have no relation here. It is a one-to-one matter between the Teacher and you. Is that not so?

Jesus and Peter and John and James were each in a one-to-one relationship. You must stand upon a foundation of having become one with the Teacher in such an absolute relationship. Didn't God tell Adam and Eve to have dominion over all things after becoming completely one? Since He said, “Be fruitful and multiply and have dominion over the earth,” it means one must first be fruitful and multiply.

The problem is becoming the substance. You go on trivially saying, “Such and such is thus and so”; it means, do not say such things to me hereafter. Such things as how the problem of the family is and how the sons and daughters are are things you talk about among yourselves; if you bring that and ask the Teacher, what answer am I to give? It means I too am at a loss. Between the Teacher and you, it is a one-to-one relationship. The Teacher treats it as a one-to-one matter. It means nothing else besides that intervenes here. This is the same for the Teacher himself as well.

It is not that the Teacher holds some other purpose regarding you. It means there is only that purpose of seeking to make you true sons and daughters centering on the Will of God the Father; it is not that I intend to use you and get something out of it. There is only the purpose of how to make you into true sons and daughters; it is not that I hold some other purpose centering on you. One must not forget such a relationship.

Knowing such a thing, hereafter, if there be a road of suffering, you must be resolved to walk it in his place, and if there be a road of death, you must be able to stand in a position of dying in his place. Can you do that, or not? “We can.” You speak eloquently enough. How well did Peter answer? How many times did he answer? Not even once. Three times! He answered as many as three times. And did he do it in a whisper? No. Peter boasted grandly, “Teacher, though all others betray you, I will not betray you.” It means it can even be so. But you must know that that time was a period of testing. You, too, must at all times take such a position into account. Otherwise, it will not do.

God’s Providence for Choosing Three Generations

God and Adam and Eve and their children must achieve the Four Position Foundation. Here the representative of the Four Position Foundation is God. The next representative is Adam, is it not? Next is the son. It means one cannot but pass through three generations in this way. The Will is not achieved. This is absolute.

How does that come out when we look at centering on the Teacher? God and the Teacher and you are three generations. Is that not so? And how does it come out when we look, centering on you? Here it unfolds horizontally. The Teacher is the first generation, you are the second generation, and your son is the third generation. Here you must be in accord with the Teacher and be in accord with your son. Only by doing this does unification unfold.

If this goes out of joint, it will not do. Only by tearing out what has gone wrong and gathering it up again can one form a relationship with the heavenly world. One must clearly know this.

If this is not connected, the Kingdom of Heaven on earth is absolutely impossible. The Father’s Will must be at the same time my will, and my will at the same time the ancestors’ will, and the ancestors’ will at the same time the will of all people, and the will of all people at the same time God’s Will. That Will must not be divided. All must be in accord, centering on the Will.

That is why the substance is the problem. God and Jesus and the disciples: this substance is the problem. Seen in terms of the man, God, Adam, and Adam’s son, these must become one. It means that if these go out of joint, the Will is not achieved.

That the Teacher has suffered until now was also to find three sons and daughters. It means that unless these are established, one cannot achieve plane development. God, preparing for this, prepared various conditions and has conducted the providence while striving in every direction to remove the conditions opposed to this. To choose one person, He prepares more than three people.

If you depart from selfish thoughts and come to hold a mind that says you will live according to the Will like Jesus, for God’s Will, a partner will without fail appear.

Just wait and see whether that is a lie. It means that when you go to some village, there already arises a person who comes and greets you, having received a revelation in a dream. It does not work when one does it with a wrongful mind, thinking one’s own scheming thoughts; but when one goes forward with a mind that says one will, from a position completely in accord with the Will, choose sons and daughters of faith who can restore the Four Position Foundation, God without fail works. It means it is truly so.

If God and Adam become one, the son naturally comes into being. And thus the Four Position Foundation naturally comes to be achieved. So if you are in accord with God, God creatively prepares in advance. It means that when you come to stand in such a position, they teach you from the spiritual world. You must always think of that.

Did anyone in the past see the Teacher, or meet him?

It means there are people who never once met him who have been attending the Teacher for decades, or even from before the Teacher was born. That is truly strange, is it not? A person far greater in years than the Teacher has been seeing and attending the Teacher from before the Teacher was born.

That can be so because of God’s predestination. When sending one central person into the world, He must work centering on the same standard both in internal nature and in external form. That is why God worked with the Teacher’s form even before the Teacher was born. It is so even now. Even now many people who commune with the spiritual world are receiving training. Why is that? It is to bring them into accord. That is, it is so that, becoming one, they can bear all trials in his place.

Now Is the Time for You to Step Forth and Work

When we look at the Unification Church from such a position, until now the Teacher has led you along. Is that not so? Whether you disliked it or liked it, he led you along. The Teacher led you along and has achieved this much. But it means the time has come when you have come of age and can know as much as one ought to know. It means the time has come at last when, from the same position as a Jesus who has not died, one can set disciples like Peter, James, and John to work. Do you understand?

Why did Jesus choose twelve disciples? For what would he have chosen them? He chose them to set them to work for the people of Israel. But did Jesus get to work with the twelve disciples? He did not get to. After Jesus died, they were all dragged this way and chased that way in doing the work; while Jesus was alive, he did not get to do the work.

The members of the Unification Church today, too, have said they were working, centering on the Teacher until now, but the Teacher led you along; did you attend the Teacher and come forth? Until now the Teacher led you along. But from now on, the time has come when you, from a position standing in place of Jesus’ twelve disciples, must attend the Teacher and work for the people, for this people.

Until now we have come to indemnifying. You could not do the indemnity. The Teacher paid the price of indemnity; it was not you who paid the price of indemnity. Connection was made environmentally, but it means I came to pay that price directly. Because all such a price has been paid, it means the time has come when you can now inherit it directly as your own. That is why it means the time has come to set you forth and work. Do you understand?

Knowing it so, from the seventies we must run toward the front line holding a mind that says, “O Will, be accomplished.”

It happened when the Teacher went to Cheongpyeong the other day. I climbed a high mountain called Ureoksan (now Seoninbong) and tried rolling a boulder once. Five people pushed a great boulder and rolled it, and it was magnificent. Because the slope of that mountain is very steep, the speed at which that boulder fell was probably close to a hundred kilometers an hour. That boulder went rolling, shaking the mountain, and then plunged with a splash into the river; how splendid it was.

But that great boulder went falling while being smashed to pieces. It means you must not be like that. Just as, when snow has fallen, if one rolls a lump of snow from a high mountain, it grows bigger and bigger until it becomes like the mass of a house, so now you too must begin to swell.

The time of shattering yourselves was the sixties. That time was like a boulder rolling and falling from a cliff. That is why the Unification Church now has only bones left. Is there any luster on your faces? Look. When one looks at your faces, all that remains is gaunt bones.

But it means now differs from such a time. Just as one lump of snow grows into a snowball the size of a house, so now if we too begin to roll, we grow that big.

People who live here in the mountain valleys will know. It means that at first one rolled a snowball the size of a fist from the top of the mountain, and it swelled and turned into a great snowball the size of a house and lodged itself in the valley below. Likewise, since we have welcomed an age in which your labor can be harvested as your possession and as your will, now it begins to swell to the extent that you labored. Do you understand?

The time has come when this can exert its influence from the individual to the family, from the family to the clan, from the clan to the people, from the people to the nation; so welcoming this age, let us, by practicing, achieve the accomplishment of the Will all the way to the national boundary sphere. This is the wish of the seventies.

From now on, let us all move for just about three years. Do you understand? It means just listen well to the Teacher’s words and live like a bear. You know the bear? They say that when a bear climbs a tree and falls once, and it hurts, it climbs again and keeps falling until it does not hurt.

Since it already hurts, if one climbs a second and third time and falls again, it would hurt more; yet they say it keeps falling until it does not hurt, so in the end it means it dies. It means a mind like that bear’s is needed.

Let Us Advance in Full March to Achieve the Kingdom of Heaven

If we do so, the Will is achieved, centering on a ground where the Four Position Foundation has been achieved by becoming one with sons and daughters of faith. For the sake of such an accomplishment of the Will, I hope you will set out powerfully into the seventies from now. But in making that start, one must not go down. It means that the resolve at the beginning of the year was good, but as many days pass, one must not sink lower. One must keep climbing.

Now the Teacher too intends, as far as possible, to go out to the provinces with you. So as far as possible, I intend to meet you who are active in the provinces. And this year’s operation is to organize mobile units and have them be active. So I intend mainly to hold many revival meetings and next, to strengthen anti-communist activity. In this sense, I intend to organize nationwide and, throughout all four seasons of the year, to carry on these two fields of operation in parallel, centering mainly on the mobile units.

So I hope you will cooperate with this as a whole. The Teacher has already drawn up all the courses. When it is said that such and such will be done somewhere, I hope you will send word to that place as far as possible.

Until now the Teacher has held considerable concern about the factories and invested much time in them. It is also a fact that through this there was hindrance to the development of the church. But I consider that once this year passes, we will cross a certain limit. So now, centering on the seventies, I am thinking that for the development of the church, I must meet you often at the front line.

Until the sixties, it was an age of indemnity. In that age, it may be said that filial devotion was fulfilled before God, but the Kingdom of Heaven had not yet been achieved. It means that a religious foundation was laid, but the Kingdom of Heaven was not achieved. It means the religious foundation, which is like the spirit, was achieved, but a foundation on the earth, which is like the body, is not standing.

What is our purpose?

It is to fight to achieve the Kingdom of Heaven. Is that not so? It is not to fight for the religion of the Kingdom of Heaven. You must always think of that. It means we fight to achieve the Kingdom of Heaven, not to fight for the religion of the Kingdom of Heaven. In every respect, the actual question is the earth.

Until now, indemnity had to be made centering on the Unification Church.

Because religion must indemnify, the Unification Church stood at the vanguard in religion’s indemnifying before the nation. In that age of indemnifying, the Teacher may be said to have fulfilled filial devotion before God, but he has not yet achieved for God an age in which He can rejoice. It became so.

From that viewpoint, knowing it as an infinite glory that you have come to have the benefit of participating together with the Teacher in a sphere of the age in which we can fulfill filial devotion to God, we must unfold nationwide activity, Seoul as Seoul and the provinces as the provinces, and exert influence before the whole citizenry.

Now we must be resolved to make the utmost effort for about three years and fight for the Will. Knowing that men and women, old and young alike, cannot but advance in full march to achieve the purpose that says “O Will, be accomplished,” we must resolve firmly this morning. Do you understand? “Yes.”
