Cheon Jeong Gung, Gapyeong, Gyeonggi, Korea
(Reading from the Preface through page 63 of Sun Myung Moon Seonsaengnim Malsseum Seonjip, Volume 4.)
Today we have read a good word. In each successive era, those whom Heaven raised cried out while sacrificing their lives, but what they proclaimed was not carried on. For that reason, if it is Christianity, Christianity has no proper textbook by which it should proceed.
A Time When We Must Act Without Shame Before the Textbook
Centering on the essentials that Heaven has taught, there must be a textbook capable of surpassing the eras; the textbook of facts from a thousand years ago and the textbook of facts of today must be the same. Words may all flow away, but the textbook becomes the center, halting every current and allowing one to check daily against that textbook what may be compared with it. Such people are the ones responsible for the church.
Yet, there is no responsible person who can perform such checking, and there is neither such a textbook nor such a scripture. So what is it that I am most concerned about? It is good to know Father, and anyone among you can come to know Father, but to know God through Father is difficult.
That is why a textbook is needed, and along with that, the records of activities that were united with the Word are needed.
If there is a textbook that anyone can know and teach, that textbook will not die. In this textbook, there is not one word that comes from Father. Heaven spoke it. Even if Father is not here, this textbook will remain, and this textbook, centered on God, will remain forever even if our church should disappear.
From now on, knowing how fearsome the content of this textbook is, the time has come when we must act without shame before that content. Then, since today is the 4th, on which the solar and lunar calendars may pass, what must we do?
In only ten more days, it will be the first day of the first lunar month; centering on that first day, from this hour today until the tenth, all remaining things will also pass.
What is it that can remain after those ten days?
If the words of this textbook are true, its content stands in for God in the future. Knowing that this is the final scripture, you must, centering on its content, become owners who can pioneer the stage of life. It is not something Father does for you; it is something you yourselves do. Knowing this, we must give our utmost.
When we look at the solar and lunar calendars, the solar calendar is running ahead, generally with a 43-day difference. Centering on that period, things have been switched over, and now only ten days remain. There are sixteen days until Father's birthday. That today is the 4th means February 4 by the solar calendar.
What we shall meet in the future is the 1st of the first lunar month; all things up to February 4 pass away. The question is how you will change your garments in the remaining period.
Until now, you have thought broadly, saying you do it for the sake of the nation or for the sake of the world, but the time for such thinking has passed. Before you yourselves stand before the nation, there must be a tribe; to stand before the tribe, there must be a family; to stand before the family, your self must exist. So what is it that I must hold with desperate urgency?
To live for the sake of the world and for the sake of heaven and earth—all of that has passed. The religious ideologies of which the Western people spoke have also all passed away with the passing of Western history. Then what comes centering on the lunar calendar is the history of the East, but even within the history of the East, whose history is it? The question is, the history of what people and of what nation.
You cannot know Korea merely as a Single Country
What is special about Korea?
That Korea has survived in this manner until today is because it is special. What is that? The one and only God is always the Master. In the era of the individual, God became the Master; in the eras of the family, tribe, people, and nation, God became the Master. And then, in an Olympic Games where nations may stand opposed to nations, or in an Olympic competition surpassing the entire world, in which even spirit people who have gone to Heaven participate, who is the one capable of leading the way?
In the history of advancing with a new textbook, he has come forth bearing what no one else knows. What is that? Why are the Korean people special? This year marks 65 years since liberation; 65 years ago, Korea was a miserable nation. It was the most pitiable nation in the entire world. Whether well-off or poor, all the world sympathized with Korea. That people and that nation were in such a state in the previous era; yet, looking now, they have no way forward.
Is it Christianity, centered in the West?
Christianity, too, has passed away. Confucianism has passed, and Buddhism has passed. Until now, the mainstream of the world has been Western religion and customs, not the religions and customs of Asia. But from now on, you cannot know Korea merely as one country among the many competing nations of Asia. This textbook is in Korean, and we must be proud of this.
Fifty years ago, the world's population was 2.4 billion; now it is 6.5 billion. It may even exceed 6.5 billion. Calculated by nation—saying this nation has so many people and that nation has so many—the total comes to 6.5 billion, but in actuality, it will be even more than 6.5 billion. China has 1.6 billion; when couples bear children, they have been waiting only for sons.
Some couples have failed to bear a son and have borne as many as three daughters. Even having borne three, there is no guarantee they will bear a son.
Have our sons and daughters resembled Father?
Can they preserve, just as it is, everything Father has? They cannot. The concern is how many can preserve it. They cannot preserve it, so what is it that I shall leave behind? Now I am turning 90. On the day one becomes 90, what age should one originally be? It is 90 with 20 or 30 years lost.
Why is this so?
If we look at the nine-by-nine multiplication table, and look at addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division (加減乘除)—the calculation laws by which numerical principles are computed—we may stand on the plus side. When you do the multiplication table, it becomes greater than one.
If one is multiplied by two, what does it become?
When one is multiplied by two, one becomes smaller. There is no rule by which 1×2 = 3. How much is it? “It is 2.” It should not be merely 2. What ought originally to be 3 has become 2, so from two persons, three persons cannot be found.
Who has disappeared?
The one that could stand as the standard has disappeared. When 1 is multiplied by 2, the 1 disappears and 2 remains. People live without knowing this. When 1 is added to 1, what happens? One must become an heir equal to God, an heir who can stand in God's place.
In that sense, there are only two in the world. Yet when one is multiplied by one, the one—myself—disappears. But I am not a being that wishes to disappear. One says, “Even if God should disappear, I must remain.” When you consider such a thing, regarding existential value, all beings have the desire to remain beyond an equal value when their value is presently equal in number.
So in addition, 1 plus 1 equals 2, but when 1 is subtracted centering on 1, I too disappear. What is 1 minus 1? The 1 disappears, and I disappear, and it becomes zero. Humanity has never, from the beginning, held a demonstration of protest against the laws of mathematics.
In addition and subtraction, what is subtracted disappears; and in multiplication and division, when 1 is multiplied by 1, how much is it? Does it disappear, or does it become 1? Only I remain as one; God disappears.
A Life Not To Be Lived by Asserting Oneself in Boast
And what about division? Four people cannot divide three people.
When divided, where will the three or the four persons be?
If four persons divide three persons, one person is lacking. What is lacking is not something one can obtain merely by waiting. Here it becomes zero.
If three persons divide three persons, it can be done; but if four persons divide three, all vanish. To that degree, it is a fearsome mathematical formula, yet no one finds it fearsome.
When 1 is multiplied by 10, what will it become?
Only 10 remain, and this disappears. When you multiply, someone—one person—will disappear, yet people like multiplication. And in addition to subtraction, multiplication, and division, division—dividing—is what anyone might dislike; yet without exception, all like it. Even though they will disappear, it is so.
What is the reason they can like it so much?
Only when one becomes a person of capability equal to God before the 1 does it become 2.
Where is there a person equal to God?
Therefore, life is not to be lived by asserting oneself in boast. Within history, who can boast? There is not one person who can boast beyond the origin. God was there, and from below the origin, God was driven out.
When one drives God out in this way and also knows that I myself may disappear, can there be hope for living?
Therefore, even if I were to compose a scripture I like through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, it would not become a scripture that disappears. Then, if God, along with me, composes a scripture, what will happen? In any era, even if one disappears, what remains and follows behind?
Because God can follow behind, He always stands in the position where He can appear again; yet until now there has been no one who has said that he has found a God who thus appears. Nor is there anyone who says that there is a textbook centered on God. Even if there were, there is no one who can understand it.
Then what is the Unification Church?
Whose textbook is this textbook?
This textbook is the textbook of the family. It is a textbook for the family. Until now, there has been no such textbook. If you look here, it is The Door That Opens the Kingdom of Heaven—the True Family.
If there is no textbook of the true family, then there is no door that opens the Kingdom of Heaven, no Kingdom of Heaven, and no knowledge of the true family.
No one can establish the entire history with what he himself knows. God said to Abraham, “Your descendants shall multiply like the sand of the sea”—but how precious is a single grain of sand?
Even if there are ten thousand grains of sand, that sand cannot bind itself in relationship with human beings and remain as the substantive entity of all things.
In only ten days from now—since today is the 4th, on the 14th—Western history will disappear. From what people did, religion, the root of culture, writing, and science appear.
That is the question. Has the history that can shape the world into one come to pass through Eastern people, or through Western people?
When Eastern and Western people are equal, the one called superior comes to the fore; whether the Eastern or the Western person is lifted; but when one is brought forward centering on the name of religion, how will it be? Even if there are hundreds of millions of people, among hundreds of millions, did a Western person begin it, or did an Eastern person?
So, since a Western person has not stood in a position that can be absolute, even if he came first, when you subtract the Western person together with the Eastern person from the one, there is no place for the Western person to stand. And does that mean the East remains? This too disappears.
So it is, when you do the arithmetic. Then, if God is the absolute God, what shall He set up? What both the Easterner and the Westerner say is precious is money, but can that money be set up as the absolute standard, like God?
The Owner of the Word
Here we have The Thousand-Character Classic (Cheonjamun) and the Myeongsim Bogam, and I once recited them through and through, but I have deliberately forgotten them all. There was the Mujesi, and Father memorized that well, too.
Therefore, the poem he composed at the age of 17, his prayer, was chosen the other day as the representative poem among more than 2,000 people gathered there. That is the “Crown of Glory” prayed for by Father at the age of 17.
Father is not originally one of great verbal skill, but if you listen quietly to such words, they are words worth using. “Ah, even if I disappear, this Word must be left behind.” Because that is the foundation from which the Word resounds, if there is a way in which anyone may take it as the basis and add to it, then everyone must be mobilized. Who owns that Word? The “Crown of Glory” was prayed for at the age of 17—I am not its owner. The one who taught the content of that prayer is God.
That came about 72 years later. I toured 50 states, determined to make America one centered on God. It was when the tour of the 50 states had ended—a tour I had made to save even the Black world, centering on a representative Black man and a representative Black woman. It was after 72 years had passed from that time.
In days past, when I looked at the characters of The Thousand-Character Classic, I knew the meaning of all of them, but when I looked the other day, I knew only as far as “Heaven (天), Earth (地), Dark (玄), Yellow (黃),” and beyond that I had forgotten everything. I had forgotten “House (宇), Cosmos (宙), Vast (洪), Wild (荒), Sun (日), Moon (月), Full (盈), Waning (昃).”
After that, I knew only “Cold comes, heat goes (寒來暑往),” but everything else I had forgotten. After “Heaven, Earth, Dark, Yellow,” the next is “Cold comes, heat goes.” This was made centering on Western people. Western culture is written from left to right—should it disappear or remain? The East goes like this: publications and even people's thinking would have to be turned around, and how confused that would be!
Here, after “Cold comes, heat goes,” comes “Clouds (雲), Rise (騰), Bring (致), Rain (雨).” Turning one page, the second time the heavenly and earthly cycle is described is “Clouds rise and bring rain” (雲騰致雨), and I do not know anything beyond that. “Clouds rise and bring rain, dew condenses and becomes frost (露結爲霜), gold is born in the beautiful waters (金生麗水), jade comes forth from Kungang (玉出崑岡)”—all of these I do not know. I have forgotten them all.
Beyond that, what is it? “The sword is called Geogwol (劍號巨闕), the pearl is called Yagwang (珠稱夜光), of fruits, the most precious are plum and crab-apple (果珍李柰).” At the very end is “Eon (焉), Jae (哉), Ho (乎), Ya (也).” A thousand characters are here, and I know only “Eon Jae Ho Ya (焉哉乎也).” I have forgotten it all. Forgetting what pertains to Western history was good, but I have also forgotten what Asian people would know.
Then, is it not that what President Moon may leave behind cannot remain in the West and will also be forgotten in the East?
If I disappear, what will remain?
At present, the number of nations is—the Abel nations have been proclaimed as 194. The Cain nations are 193. One nation is lacking. When the two are added together, how many? Among them, which is the nation that will remain?
The One and Only God
When you do addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, the conclusion is that there will be nothing remaining; people may say, “We drove out the Westerner. Good.”
If, centering on the Easterner who was thus driven out, the Easterner speaks, he says, “Listen, only you Easterner!”
If the Westerner disappears and only the Easterner listens, then where the Easterner used to face the Westerner and call out, “Hey, Westerner!” and receive an answer of “Yes!”—since there will be no one to answer, the Easterner himself will disappear too, so what remains?
If you leave money behind, how many trillions, hundred-quintillions, or octillions does it reach? The number more than 6,000. Culture and civilization, the people of culture, and the nation of civilization! Is a nation of civilization needed, or a people of culture?
What is civilization (munmyeong)?
The “mun” in civilization is the character “letters/writing (文),” which has a dot above and a board below, with an X (⨉). If that X (⨉) is not there, what becomes of it? No matter what is placed on the altar, it topples over.
You know what a mirage is, do you not? It is what is called a mirage in English. When I went to Las Vegas, there was the MGM. What is M? “It means metro, the same metro as in metropolitan.” Then if Western history disappears, must the MGM made by Western people also disappear with it, or must it be left behind?
What is it that President Moon wishes to leave behind?
Money, too, is too much. Centering on money, also, who is number one? When I heard the words, “From the beginning, the one and only King is the Father and Mother of the world and can be the King of kings,” my eyes opened wide.
The Master who can represent heaven and earth is God; if such a God embraces me and becomes the Master who does not let me go, then unless He denies me, I remain. Many individuals also say that, more than our individual selves, the King who can be served as King while attending God remains eternally, even though individuals disappear. No explanation can erase this. I have discovered that one thing.
Then what is it that can remain?
Money is made as each nation pleases in the middle of things; culture is what may be good for one's own nation; civilization, too, is what those people discovered and pioneered as something good for themselves. Culture is what representative people do. Because the “hwa (化)” of culture is the character for “becoming,” it can change. It is evolution. But civilization transcends the starting point of evolution.
When all that totality is spoken of, what is the symbolic question that cannot but remain forever in the cosmos? The One who is God is always King. Even though there are myriads of people, He is such a King who can be attended as the one King. And though many families pass over and tread on, He is one familial God. Then no matter how many tribes there are, He is the God of all. No one will say, “I do not need a king.”
When you consider this, even if there are ten million Easts and Wests, even if the two combined amount to ten million, there is one God in them. Two Gods are not needed.
From the One who can be such, to the end of ten million ages, how will it be? Even if one nation is greater than heaven and earth for ten million ages, even if there are ten million such nations, in them there is the one and only God.
When one speaks this way, one concludes, “Then only that one noun is needed!” Is that conclusion a possible conclusion, a contradictory conclusion, or a conclusion that must not exist? It is the conclusion that fits exactly. So I think. Ah, President Moon has discovered something strange.
Then what shall President Moon leave behind in the future?
Even if I disappear, if I make a textbook, then regardless of when and even if there are a million or ten million clubs, the nation that says, “We need the one God,” will remain. What is the answer? The answer is, “It will remain.” I do not know it well either, but there is the possibility of remaining. Even though there are ten million, the saying that among them one answer—God alone—can remain is correct.
In that sense, President Moon's life is grave. With me, in facing Heaven, it is an absolute standard. If made to be the God called upon from the absolute standard of the “Sphere of Sabbath of the Parents of Heaven and Earth and the Cosmos,” He can remain. So what I am saying is that, centering on the Sphere of Sabbath of the Parents of Heaven and Earth and the Cosmos, it is absolute sex.
At the conclusion, even if many hundreds of millions, trillions, and quintillions of people multiply hundreds of millions, trillions, and quintillions of times, when viewed centering on the concave and the convex, the concave and convex cannot differ.
We Must Attend to the One God
Now that you have come to know in what sense the textbook and teaching materials have been composed, you must read the textbook with that in mind.
When reading the textbook, in a case where you read of a club that is greater than I, read with a focus on the position of God among them.
If it is a textbook that thus guards the position of the one and only God, that textbook will not lose that position for ten million billion years.
So when we look at the conclusion, it is the Sphere of Sabbath, and what is there? Absolute nature. It is an absolute nature, but centered on whom? It is not something said about the individual.
Our nation is Cheon Il Guk—Cheon Il Guk! Even if there are a thousand “Heaven (天)” characters, the one King is needed. The one King.
Are two Kings needed? The one King is needed; did that King come like a thief in a helicopter?
Hundreds of millions of people, shedding blood, have attended Him as the one King. Therefore, I say it is a fearsome textbook. Even having made it myself, I find it fearsome. How will you live? As an individual, you attend God; as a family, you attend God, representing the families of the world; and in seeking the tribe, the people, and the nation, all these must become one and attend the one God.
Even though the position of God horizontally extends to hundreds of millions of places, one must vow to attend the one central Heaven forever.
If the saying that God, whom the one root itself acknowledged and called God, can only be explained as content acknowledged as the value representing eternity, then even though there are ten million families, the one God is also, on the family level, the one. No matter how many nations, no matter how many families, there are making ten million different assertions, there is the one and only God.
In that sense, what I have known from my youth is God. God is the one and only august being. We say “Hananim” (one God) and not “Dunanim” (two Gods). If there were “two Gods,” which would be the first “Lord” to follow? The “nim” in Hananim is the character “to entrust (任).”
Even if ten million people are gathered, even if all the cells that arise from individuals are gathered, when they connect, centering on one Master and can be publicly recognized, they also say, “We too need the one God who sets a single standard.”
So today I must read The Thousand-Character Classic and Myeongsim Bogam once again. Having forgotten everything that I once knew, can I set out to find that place again? I must go and find the place where I once remembered and delighted alone in joy. Even if ten million people, facing The Thousand-Character Classic, rejoice together with me in that place where they can rejoice with me, He is still God.
Even if ten million people such as I were gathered, there it becomes, “I need the one and only God whom I serve.” It cannot be denied. Now what I lost must be sought again—it is Restoration.
If we say of this Thousand-Character Classic, just as it is, “This is what God acknowledges,” what will happen? If we say it is the one and only Thousand-Character Classic, what happens? Everyone will try to receive it, saying, “Give me that Thousand-Character Classic!”
The Textbook and Teaching Material of Eternal Imperishability
Because such logic is established, I have become unable to trust myself, who lived centering on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. How complex was President Moon's sphere of thought, who began to think even to such a dream-like standard, and how difficult was it to make it one! That must be conveyed. To convey it that way, I must say that, centering on God, from before eternity to after eternity, I am centered on the textbook. Anyone who calls upon God cannot abandon this textbook.
Is there such a nation?
Only Korea. So when I was young, Heaven said, “Ah, God watches over you. There is eternally no second Lord. Even if there are a thousand people like you in a family, because there is only God, He is the one, God.
Even if hundreds of millions of nations were gathered, if one attends the King, who can be the one God, there is nothing to worry about. When you grow up, the time will come when you can know all of this, so why do you worry?”
When I worked through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, I knew that all must disappear. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division—from old times, this has a condition that can change in the middle. Then what is the unchangeable conclusion? Even if there are thousands of stages, even if one has ascended to the position of one thousand, apart from the one position of the Lord who is the standard, it cannot become the one root for ten million ages.
The only main pillar and the root, and also the stem—if God dwells in them, and one is attached to that God, one can be eternal! Think with such a heart.
Why worry?
If there is a teaching material made by God, even after a thousand years or ten thousand years, no matter how many people there are of hundreds of millions of forms, no matter how many ten million kinds of things there are, I see that within them, gathering, history can be connected such that attending the one august being called God is without fail.
The individual is for the sake of the family; the family is for the sake of the tribe; the tribe is for the sake of the people; the people are for the sake of the nation; and I must serve the nation, the world, and even God. If God stands as the one King of that world, would not that be the ideal world I desire? A strange conclusion has come out, but it cannot be complained about.
Everything President Moon has done until now, all the things that were said to be lies, have come out to be correct. Weeping alone, I went searching out the prisons, but in the prisons too I attended that Lord, and now there is nothing but to introduce to heaven and earth the one and only God.
We can introduce the autobiography of the one and only God—is that not the textbook and teaching material of eternal imperishability? You, knowing this, cannot deny this explanation.
As a result, you become people who attend to God and become His sons and daughters. To become God's sons and daughters is to complete everything at the very summit. The prince of that time becomes an eternal prince.
Even if God should separately appear after a thousand years, that prince and the prince of ten million years before cannot differ. Becoming one with the departure of God, of which I have spoken, heaven and earth become connected as branches and twigs from the central root of my God-realm ancestors.
Knowing in that position the One who can be attended as the one Master, that does not fall away. The individual is for the family, and from the family, one naturally stands in the position of God.
The family is for the tribe, and the tribe is for the people. They are the era of the individual, the era of the family, the era of the tribe, the era of the people, and the era of the nation; but centering on the boundary line of the fifth stage, the nation, those things that guarded the ridge-line of the seven-tenths, eight-tenths, nine-tenths, and ten-tenths are no longer needed. The Lord Himself becomes the direction in which one must go.
The individual realm is for the Lord of the family; the family realm is for the Lord of the tribe; the tribal realm is for the Lord of the people. That is one august being. It cannot be two. The authority and dignity of God can be held by one.
If in the eternal world one longs for the one and only God, from where must one begin to seek?
If the teaching material is so composed, one begins with the teaching material. Since that is President Moon's conclusion, even if there are ten million different conclusions, in that place, the one Lord who is God cannot be abandoned.
The ancestors a thousand years before and I, and the descendants ten thousand years hence and I, cannot be cut off from each other. Therefore, though I am in this era, I can participate in God's position in the era of ten thousand years and hundreds of millions of ages, and the thousands of descendant beings can also participate in God's position.
Since I cannot be separated and removed, President Moon will be living until that time and standing in the position of Master. At that time, becoming the only couple as the eldest son, he attends God eternally.
When the parents take the position of God, the sons and daughters cannot cut off God's position. Take the position of God; the sons and daughters cannot cut off God's position. It is the People Who Lead the Age That Bring About the Transformation
When it comes to this point, from now on, I must finish and truly sleep. I must forget everything and sleep. Even when at play, I must not think of other things; I must play only that play which is together with the Lord.
So can I meet and converse with you who are individualists? Rather than thinking of meeting an individual Lord, I go with the thought of meeting the Lord of heaven and earth, and becoming the center there.
If one ascends to that place, one can meet Him, but if one cannot reach that place, even though one's body is connected to one, it does not reach one's own self. My mouth cannot eat together with Him; that is what is meant. If I gulp and swallow it down, it lodges in my throat.
The transformation of an age is not brought about by the age that moves it; it is brought about by the human beings who lead that age. In that sense, Yu Jeong-ok, who until now has been active centering on America, went to Europe on the 22nd, stayed there until now, and came back yesterday.
You must have felt strongly how rapid the difference of change is in facing the Word amid a rapidly shifting environment. Speak about that briefly. (Yu Jeong-ok reports on the education of the Theory of the Original Substance of the Principle conducted in Europe, and offers prayer.)
