When we ask whether good came first or evil came first, evil came first.
Evil, which began with illicit love
Then how did evil set out?
It did not set out centering on some outward, material condition, but in every respect set out centering on the problem of love. We must know the fact that evil set out with the unavoidable relationship of lineage through illicit love as its motive, and that this is the han (한) of humankind and became the historical starting point of good and evil.
Your individual selves were born having received the lineage of your parents. Without fail, taking your parents’ love as the origin, you today were formed through the bloodline of your parents. No one can divide the nature that resembles one’s parents and take on a different nature. Seen in terms of the principle of creation, this is impossible.
Because the root of evil too was planted based on the parents’ nature, pulling out this root is not a simple matter. If one goes slightly wrong, one ends up denying the principle of creation. What cannot be pulled out without crossing such a boundary line is the root of sin centering on the basis of lineage. That God has labored for six thousand years until now is also because such a matter of lineage is the motive.
Then how is this corrected?
Because falsehood and evil are the opposite of goodness, to enter the position of goodness one absolutely cannot enter centering on the same line, or the same direction, or the same purpose. In pursuing a world of goodness and pursuing a character of goodness, there is no way to pursue a new world of the purpose of goodness while holding just as they are the historical direction that has been woven in the past and the social system that was formed in the past.
Then what must be done?
One must fundamentally change direction. If one goes east, the other must go west; if one goes south, the other must go north; if one goes down, the other must go up; and if one goes up, the other must go down. Human beings have until now not known the fact that this became the origin of the contradiction that humankind has been unable to do anything about until now.
If this is a fact, then attaining that hope through the heart of our original nature, which pursues goodness, is not a simple matter. Attaining this purpose is the original heart of human beings, but within a besieged sphere of environment one cannot hold a normal hope. Holding that hope again is impossible without possessing a world of complete revolution.
The converging points of God’s Providence and human hope, which must be united
What is it that religion pursues and hopes for? It is goodness. And who is the object it pursues as the center of religion? It is a deity. What that deity and the truly good person aim at is to liberate human beings, who are today in the midst of sin, and make them into human beings of good value. This is the desire of us human beings, and it is God’s Providence (섭리) through human beings, or the Providence of the deity.
The converging point of such a Providence of the deity and of human hope must be united, and that converging point at which they are united is the point of completion, the point of consummation. That point of consummation is not accomplished with outward conditions. When we ask whether, in an age of the omnipotence of gold such as today, in which material civilization is surging, the converging point of humankind’s hope and the converging point of the deity’s Providence can be determined centering on matter, that is utterly impossible.
Therefore, what becomes the problem above all is how a true person and a true God, possessing life, may meet one day of true joy and, centering on a bond of true love, bring forth a true new origin of life.
What is such a factor of life, factor of hope, factor of happiness?
It is tasting the joy of being reborn through a bond of love upon a foundation where a true person and a true deity can rejoice. A time will come when a joy beyond such joy appears in the history of humankind, or in the world of value that human beings pursue. Because that is a standard that human beings hope for and the deity hopes for as well, we must take that standard as the decisive point of the desire we long for.
Therefore, centering on that, human beings must be educated within the Providence of the deity. In educating, one must not only teach that to human beings but must also let them form a bond with it. That is the final essence that the deity seeks to unfold through religion. From this viewpoint, if we examine the Bible of Christianity or the scriptures of each religion, we can know that such content is without fail there.
A true person must love Heaven. He must love the earth. He must love people. That is, he must love heaven, earth and humanity (天地人). In loving, one cannot love the earth first. Why? Because the earth is not the origin of love. One cannot love people first. Why? Because people are not the origin of love. Then what is the origin of love? It is the absolute being, the deity. That is why a person who cannot love the deity cannot love people, and a person who cannot love people cannot love the earth and all creation.
Seen from this viewpoint, what is the highest standard of religion?
It is loving the deity. Next comes loving people, and next comes loving all creation. That you, centering on religion, seek to economize on goods and live frugally also originates entirely from there. Accordingly, one must hold an origin of love that has furnished an economic foundation upon a standard that respects humankind and aims at human equality.
Considering all this, the mother body that can protect and take charge not only of the outward ideal of human beings but even of faith centering on all the inner problems of heart that well up in the mind is, in every respect, not oneself but God. God is the center. That is why a person who cannot love this center cannot love an object in the outward sphere.
If human beings had received perfect love from God
Considering all these things, the question is what the first words would be that God, if God exists, would teach facing human beings. The question is whether the deity must love human beings or human beings must love the deity — which is the principle?
In the fallen human world, the principle is that the deity loves human beings. To what extent does that love go? It is perfect love. We human beings would demand perfect love. How good it would have been had there been such perfect love! If our lives had been determined upon a foundation of perfect love, and if the outward stage of living had unfolded through that bond of love, what a happy foundation that would have been! When we consider this, we did not possess a starting point at which that could be so. That is why it is a problem.
If human beings had received absolute love before the absolute deity, what would have happened? How strong would the power of that absolute love have been? It would have become the motive that could develop the power of life. Life too must be governed by the power of that love. What is the authoritative power in carrying out the most difficult matter, which can decide the question of our life and death? It is not some power of the outward world. It is the power of love welling up from the inner heart. No one can deny that. That is why we often see in our daily surroundings people dying and living centering on love. That proves that love is stronger than life.
Within the sphere of the principled law, did the deity love us human beings perfectly?
And though human beings were originally in a position of being able to receive perfect love when they were created with the relationship of sons and daughters, did human beings receive such love? If they had received it, there would be no problem. A person one has deeply loved can never be forgotten. A relationship bound by such love can be severed by no one. It cannot be severed by the exhortation of parents or by the teaching of any teacher.
Then how joyful it would have been if the absolute deity and we human beings, centering on the relationship of parent and child, had loved perfectly and been perfectly loved! And how good it would have been! Had it been so, the history of humankind would not have become such a history of misfortune.
Love possesses a subject-like power that is the sum of all powers. That is why, in a moment concentrated on love, one enters a state of forgetting everything and being unable to form any relationship with anything else. That is why for love one even kills oneself. When one is drawn into it, no outward thing can interfere with one or form a relationship. What thus stands in a subject-like or governing position with all power summed up is precisely the power of love. Seen this way, when one forms a relationship centering on the power of God’s absolute love, nothing can invade one.
If our first human ancestors had set out from such an origin and human beings had stood in such a position that God said, “This is My beloved son and daughter,” and loved them forever and ever, would human beings have become so wretched?
You do not know the fact that a deity exists. The very fact that the question of whether there is a God or not has been presented to us is a historical wretchedness.
If human beings and the deity had formed a perfect bond of love, whether the deity exists or not would be actually felt. Because there is the love of the deity, related to us in a sphere of feeling that transcends the consciousness of existence, whether the deity exists or not would be a problem there. All of this itself is the desolation of human beings having fallen and been born within a different relationship. You must keep this in mind.
Seen centering on such a standard, what must the many scriptures and the people who walk the road of the Way teach us today? They must teach God’s love. What a person who walks the road of the Way aims at is to furnish a character that can be perfectly united, centered on God’s love. Nothing else is necessary for us human beings.
If one is born as a child, one must receive one hundred percent of the parents’ love. Otherwise dissatisfaction arises. Is it not so with you as well? When one looks quietly at parents loving their children — a parent’s bundle of love should not be indicated by numbers, but if parents held a thousand of love and gave their child only nine hundred of love and kept back a hundred, then however much love the child received, he would think as though he had not received love. Only when the remaining hundred of love is filled in upon the nine hundred does he at last feel the satisfaction that he has received all the love.
When you later marry and the one who becomes your bride or your bridegroom asks, “Do you love me?” it will not do to say, “I love you only ninety-nine percent.” One must say, “I love you one hundred percent.” Why is that? Because only love can form a bond with the whole, and only love can give the whole and receive the whole. Only when one gives the whole and receives the whole does unity come about. Only then does one become one. If unification takes place here, would it not be complete unification?
What kind of being is God to us?
Then what kind of being is the deity? Who is the deity to us?
He is the one who made me. Then if the deity made human beings, with how much devotion would He have made them? Look quietly at a person. What would have happened if there were no eyelashes on your eyes? Have you thought about such a thing? Because eyelashes were made, the dust driven in by the wind does not enter the eyes.
Because the eyelashes stand firm like a partition, they block all the dust coming in. And the eyes blink every day — who told them to do that? Were you born having thought for yourself that you must blink your eyes? Have you ever thought about such a thing? The eyes blink every few seconds — who told them to do that? Can you say that your father did it? If so, then that father’s mother and father, and that mother and father’s mother and father… going up this way, in the end one goes all the way up to the absolute being. Is it not so? That one made it that way.
Think about it once. When you were born, were you born having thought that your eyes must be formed like this, and must blink, and must have eyelashes? Looking quietly at this black and white thing, it is an odd sight. And yet do they seem to be attached at random without thought, without design, without plan? If there were no eyebrows, where would the rainwater go when one is caught in a downpour? That rainwater would all go into the eyes. It is the same when one sweats. But because the eyebrows block the way like a mountain range, the rainwater and sweat do not go into the eyes.
What would have happened if the eyeball had been sunk in?
Because the round eyeball is covered over with the eyelid, even when rainwater flows, it flows off like this. Seeing such things, we can know the fact that we were created under a scientific plan our own thinking could never reach.
And look at the nose. Why is this nose attached here? If it had come about at random, it would be attached upside down. What would happen if it were attached upside down? Think about it. It would be quite something on a day of pouring rain. Why on earth is it attached like this? It did not come about naturally.
That aside, why on earth are the nose hairs attached like this? This is odd if you call it odd, unlucky if you call it unlucky, and marvelously strange if you call it strange. Did this know there is dust in the air, or not? “It did not know.” If it did not know, why would it be attached here? The nose hairs knew that there is dust in the air.
And did the eyes know that there is a sun, or not? “They knew.” And did this mouth know that it must live eating all the things prepared upon this earth, or not? “It knew.” Who knew? Did you know? So-called university students go on about the deity this and religion that — did such fellows know?
And look at the hands. What would happen if the hands were the other way around? That would not do. And what would happen if there were only one hand? None of this is arranged so that it can be reversed. Can it be reversed? Then did this know what it must grasp, or not? It knew. What about the feet? If the toes were attached at the back instead of in front like this, could one walk? Think about it. Seeing this, did the toes, in coming into being, know that they would walk about, or not? Everything knew.
The nose hairs knew that there is dust in the air, the eyes knew that there is a sun, and the mouth knew that there is something to eat.
Strangely, human beings come out knowing everything before they are born. Then who knew this? Did Mount Baekdu or the Himalayas or Mount Everest know? Can I come into being like this because a mountain knows? Looking at how I came into being like this, there is something before me furnished with some personal content. There is some will. There is no way to deny this. Denying this is already a contradiction in terms of the Principle.
There was a cosmic being. Whether one calls it a deity or a stone or a brick is not the problem. But that self at least must be acknowledged. Yet the communists, because it is troublesome, deny this.
The human body is a palace of mystery
Let us think about a person being born. When a fetus is in the womb, how does it eat? How does it breathe? What would happen if a fetus breathed through its nose in the womb? It is inside a sac of water, and if it breathed through the nose there, it would be in great trouble. Then through what does it breathe? It breathes through the umbilical cord. It eats too through the umbilical cord. And then, when it comes out into a world without water, what must it do? Will the umbilical cord do? It will not. As soon as it comes out, this must be changed. Then does the baby come out having made every preparation for that, or not? It comes out having made it. What would happen if it came out with no preparation at all? Would it die before even smelling the air and come to nothing? Having made every preparation, it bursts out as a new living being with a cry. Did you know all such things?
Who made such preparations? Did the mother’s belly make such preparations?
Seeing this and that, each one of you is a truly splendid product designed under a meticulous plan. Can you deny this? If you can deny it, try. There is no way to deny that until one resultant being is formed, some third being existed and made preparations. Let anyone who will deny it raise his hand. Can you deny it, or not? “We cannot.” You too can only answer, helplessly, that you cannot. If I talk on like this, there will be no end.
The body is a palace of mystery. Even with this one fingernail, medical research of several thousand years, several tens of thousands of years, would not come to an end. When one looks at those called doctors of learning today, they are all loafers.
If one compares what the doctors research with the whole universe, it does not amount to one part in hundreds of millions. Can you believe those people, so-called doctors, when they conclude that there is no deity and so on? It is offensive. They speak of some formula or law, but there are many things that transcend such things. Have you thought about where the end of formulas is? To what stage in the world of the universe’s formulas would the formulas of higher mathematics we learned at school belong?
We must consider once again the fact that we human beings were born possessing content by which we can meet the natural environment.
How would you answer when asked whether you think there is a deity or not? Would you answer that you do not know? There is no need to ask our members of the Unification Church, but among people of the world there are many who would say there is no deity.
The foundation of the universe is subject and object
One must possess perfect love. Human beings are arranged to love. Love cannot be done alone. It is not established except in a relative relationship. Then, since God is omniscient and omnipotent and absolute, and is the master who is the center of the universe, if that master is love, must that God be alone or be two? Have you thought about that? Must He be alone, or be two? Love cannot be done alone. A relative relationship is absolutely necessary.
Then what must there be? There must be a subject and an object. Only then is love established. When subject and object exist and love is established, from there multiplication unfolds. Among all the things existing until now, there is nothing that has not passed through a process of multiplication. That is, they passed through the gate of love. That is why, if one intends to live asserting a bond of love, one cannot avoid the standard of subject and object.
What is the foundation of the universe?
From where does the origin of existence set out? It sets out from the relationship of subject and object. Yet people who do not know say it arose naturally. Then of what is nature composed? It is composed of force. Then does force arise in a relative relationship, or arise independently? Answer.
If there is a world champion here, does force appear while he stands still? Force appears only when there is an object. Force requires an object. You must know this.
Then how is the content of that object arranged?
It is without fail arranged as subject and object. What are subject and object? They are the relationship of center and outer form. Centering on the bond of such a relationship, the phenomenal world of all existence unfolds. Therefore, before there are human beings, what must there be? There must be force. And before there is force, what must there be? There must be subject and object. A relative relationship of subject and object must be formed.
Then what is the foundation of the whole universe?
It is the subject. What is the subject? It is the nucleus. Then is the nucleus square or round? If I talk this way, there will be no limit, but at any rate, listen. Is the nucleus at rest, or in motion? It is always in motion. Then, to be in motion, must it be square or round? It must be round. That is why the resultant beings centering on the moving nucleus without fail resemble the round form.
Are your fingertips pointed or round? They are round. That is because everything came into being resembling the round form. That the fist is round when clenched is the same. When one looks at people, the person who gives the impression that “that person can live well” is a plump person. The closer the type is to round, the more it is a completed form. Do you like what is round and full (圓滿), or what is angular and full (角滿)? The most ideal is the round form.
What is the most precious part among human beings? It is the part formed most round. Then what is formed round? The eyes, the heart — all the important organs are formed round.
The reason God could not but create the created world
Then what kind of being is God?
He is the mother body of human beings and the nucleus of all existence. Yet why did God, who is the nucleus of all existence, have to create heaven and earth? It is because if the nucleus were alone, the nucleus itself would perish and vanish. Speaking in terms of electricity, however perfect a plus it is, when there is only plus and no minus, the electricity vanishes even if you tell it not to vanish. For that plus not to vanish, it must follow the principle by which it can avoid vanishing, and therefore, through the work of creation, a perfect minus comes into being. Do you understand?
Why is that? Because existence is determined only when the two give and receive with each other. Do you understand? You too maintain life only by breathing, do you not? Life is maintained only when the blood of the heart gives and receives and circulates, is it not? What is single perishes even if you tell it not to perish.
And in giving and receiving, would it be interesting or uninteresting to give and receive the same thing? It would be uninteresting. That is why the form of the subject and the form of the object are different. Do you understand? Even in eating, if one eats only kimchi and pickled radish every day, does one want to eat something else, or not? With food too, only when something different is brought in each day does the standard change. That is how seasonings developed. Human beings are made that way. What is ordinary is dull.
Would it be interesting or uninteresting if subject and object were the same? What would it have been like if women had beards? If woman and man were the same, they would not need each other. Because they are different from each other, they need each other as beings of different value. This is what a relative relationship is. In developing that content, only when one furnishes distinctive, stimulating conditions is one needed as a relative being. Such words are rather difficult, so it will be hard for you to understand.
Then did God create heaven and earth because He wanted to create? What happens if the subject is alone? It dissolves. So in order to exist, He could not but make the created world; there was no other way.
Then what is the center of the created world? It was not the trees, not the tiger cub, not the lion cub, not the monkey cub. However one looks at it, it was the human being. Is it not so?
Then from where would God have begun creation?
When positive electricity and negative electricity seek to meet, they gather at the highest peak, do they not? If the subject is at the highest peak, with what would that subject seek to unite? It would seek to unite with what is at the highest peak. What is that at the highest peak? It is the human being, the so-called lord of all creation.
You wish to recover freedom, do you not?
Wishing to recover freedom is because one possessed freedom and lost it and now seeks to recover it, is it not? Considering such a matter, this world must be settled because human beings fell. That is why perfect love is demanded.
If God is the perfect subject of the nucleus who created all things of heaven and earth, then what is the center of that subject? It is love. That is why, if that nucleus and love are in a relationship of giving and receiving, it exists eternally.
Could there be uneasiness, or could there be complaint, in love, the center of the nucleus, and the nucleus giving and receiving with each other? Because human beings were made as the relative beings of such a subject, human beings’ minds and bodies came to resemble that subject.
Just as God’s inner love becomes one body with God’s outward nucleus and possesses an environment in which they can give and receive eternally, so if our inner mind and outer body had formed the relationship of subject and object and been able to give and receive perfectly, the factor of unhappiness would not have arisen.
For human beings to become God’s relative beings
Because God is the subject of love, human beings, born having received that original nature, are also subjects of love. Therefore the body, placed in the position of object, must become the minus.
Do you understand these words?
Had it become so, they would without fail have become one. Can one divide a harmonious husband and wife? Suppose there is a woman now going to die together with her lover, and another man appears and says, “Do not follow your man and die; come with me instead” — would those words get through to that woman? A young man and woman are going to die because of love, and when one looks at the man, he is homely. So if some handsome man appears there and says to that woman, “I am finer than this man and more capable in everything, so follow me. Why die?” would that woman say, “I will”? Rather, she would say to that man, “What are you, you wretch?” This is love. What becomes the source of a foundation that can never be moved is love. Through that love one even crosses over death. When that love explodes, strength arises that can overcome any difficulty. Are these words understood?
The nuclear being of such love is God. For human beings to become relative beings resembling this God, they must possess a nature that can correspond to God’s nature. That is why the mind of a person must possess a nature that can represent a character the same as God’s nuclear content. Where is its root? It has its root in the essence of love. From that love comes peace, from that love comes happiness, and from that love comes joy. It does not come from money.
When the plus has realized perfect love, a perfect minus comes into being — is that not so? It should have come into being and become perfectly one, but what happened before this became a perfect plus? Another love was injected through the body, and a plus came into being. A plus-dash (+′) came into being. Plus and plus repel each other. So what happens to body and mind? They repel each other.
That is why within you yourselves the mind and the body, centering on different purposes of love, are struggling within mutually opposed bonds. That is why human life is called a sea of suffering. Let those among you who say they are happy raise your hands. If there are any, they are probably mad fellows. What happiness is there? When I see fellows who are not even happy blinking their eyes and trying to live as though they were something fine, it is appalling. Having become the most forlorn of orphans and still trying to live — that is the misfortune of human life. You must know that.
Do your bodies and minds struggle, or not? “They struggle.” Your individual selves fight day and night. When these fighting individuals become two, it becomes a family; when they become ten, it becomes a village; when they become a thousand or ten thousand, it becomes a people; and when they become several million or several hundred million, it becomes humankind, does it not? Would there be peace in a place where this ragged field of fighting has been spread out? That is impossible.
That is why the origin of peace must be restored beginning from the individual. One must dispose of the things of the flesh and reinforce the desire of the mind. That is why religion sets out from completely denying all the conditions of the flesh.
Even in believing in a religion, you must believe, knowing such things. Only then do you become qualified to hold a religion. So, did you enter the Unification Church from such a position?
Did you come in with such a heart?
Since the Unification Church too is a religion, in coming in here can one bring such a fundamental problem in just as it is, or must one pass through a process of denial? Religion sets out from complete denial. From the very day you join the Unification Church, you must deny everything. Even what? Even love.
To receive God’s love, one must become a perfect minus
In cultivating the road of the Way, for a man, woman is the enemy, and for a woman, man is the enemy. Because it was planted wrongly when it was planted, because it set out with mistaken love, to restore it one must pass through that road again. That is why the appearance of an object of mistaken love who tempts one is, seen as centering on the principle of restoration, an unavoidable phenomenon.
Such a phenomenon testifies to the fact that human beings fell through love. This cannot be denied. Accordingly, the factor of love must be expelled. This is the task of religion.
Our conscience has not yet been completed. If it were like the chestnut in autumn, whose burr has fully ripened so that the husk splits open and the nut falls, the conscience would be complete. But the conscience is still like an unripe chestnut. That is because human beings did not fall having matured but fell while immature.
Then what must be done here?
Human beings must possess God’s love. They must pursue God’s love. That is why religion teaches God’s love. Because human beings have not gone all the way to a position of being able to receive God’s love perfectly, they must once again open the gate and seek a road by which they can fill their minds with God’s love.
For that one prays and offers devotion. You have heard the words about going into the mountains to practice and offer devotion, have you not? The opening of the gate through such devotion is called spiritual communication. You will not know such things well. When that gate opens, a strength several times stronger than the strength that was in the mind until then comes into my mind. What shall we call it? Shall we call it cosmic power? Self-control arises that can gather up and take charge of the whole. When such strength arises, in terms of strength there is no rival.
In this way one must restore the power of love to the mind again. That is why, when one becomes intoxicated with religion, joy comes. A mad person laughs alone, does he not? Even a mad person laughs; so how much would one laugh if one went mad with God’s love! Laughing and laughing, laughter would keep coming until one’s mouth curled up. With eyes closed one feels good, with eyes open one feels good, and living a thousand years, ten thousand years, one feels good.
What would it be like if there were such a person?
What would happen if such a power of love arose in you? At once, as though electricity ran through all the cells, one would be gathered into that love all at once and be embraced in that bosom and dance there. Though it seems one dances alone, the world is arranged to keep the beat with it. That is why you must offer devotion to reinforce such strength. And thus, when one rises above the original homeland — that is, above the boundary line of the fall — and becomes a perfect minus, a perfect plus comes here. Even if you tell it not to come, it comes automatically.
The desire of human beings
One method of reinforcing the power of love is the method of breaking through into the inner power; another is the method of beating down the body. That is why, when one enters the Unification Church, one is told to fast.
If one cannot fast for a week, one cannot become a regular member of the Unification Church. Is there anyone who does not want to eat? For how many days did Jesus fast? He fasted forty days. Even Jesus, who bears the name of a saint, narrowed his way into the original position while fasting for forty days. In order to find a perfect bond of love, he pushed aside what was imperfect and fasted for forty days.
Because the body has passed through Satan’s love, it tries to rise, saying it will become higher than God. Do you understand? Arrogance is Satan’s essence, and rebellion is Satan’s original nature. Having received such a bloodline of Satan, one always tries to rise, centering on oneself. This must be beaten down. It must be corrected in that way.
Why must it be so? It is to make an absolute object person before God, who is the subject of love. That is why the desire of human beings is to take possession of God’s love. Even if one has taken possession of God, the bundle of love within God can also be given to another person. Taking possession of that love of God is the desire of human beings.
You all want to become president, do you not?
If you cannot become president, you want to become at least the president’s son, do you not? If you cannot be that either, you want to become at least the president’s son-in-law, do you not? Do you want to, or not? Anyone who says he does not want to is a fool and an idiot. For what do you go to university? Do you want to succeed in the world, or not? You want to succeed. To what extent? To the extent of wanting to become president of the world. You want to make even God your own. That is normal.
Because we human beings are relative beings before God’s love, our original nature tells us to go toward that place. Yet the bad thing is that this appears as desire mixed with mistaken flesh and blood and thereby ruins the desire of original nature; the desire to resemble God, to be loved by God and to possess God is not a bad thing.
Therefore, what is the purpose of us human beings?
It is to take possession of God’s love. On the day one takes possession of that alone, all one’s desires are accomplished and nothing else is necessary. After taking possession of God and putting God’s love firmly into my heart and clicking the lock shut, one sleeps in the daytime even if told not to. Even if other things are brought, they are a bother. Should there not be a point of settlement for such desire?
The reason like poles repel
It was said that force is formed in a relative relationship. Therefore, does the power of the desire hoped for by the conscience have a subject, or not? It must have one. What is that subject? It is God’s love. One becomes one body centering on God’s love. And after becoming so, one repels again. Having become one body, why does one repel? If anyone says he does not repel, let us see whether he repels or not.
In the principle of electricity, plus and minus become one, but plus plus and minus and minus repel each other, do they not? Why do they repel? It is not that they are arranged to repel from the start. There is a time when they repel. Look. When a shower is about to fall, black clouds come rolling in with a rumble and a crash, do they not? That is exactly the principle. By what action does that happen? It happens by electrical action. A plus force and a minus force of hundreds of millions of volts long for each other and then collide and give off light. Love too gives off light. It is the same.
Then does a plus force amounting to hundreds of millions of volts burst out all at once? No. Little pluses join with pluses in a combined offensive. It is not that a great plus comes out at once; first the small pluses combine and form a great plus realm. It has become this way. Without passing through a realm of the summation of pluses, a great plus realm would not be formed, would it? That theory is right, is it not? If I had not become the teacher of the Unification Church, I would have become a doctor of learning with this.
Then how do pluses combine and a great plus come into being?
This is the problem. You must know this. Before a plus and a minus are arranged to come into being, but if a plus comes into being here before a minus comes into being, those pluses combine. If, at the instant plus and minus are about to collide, another plus comes into being just slightly ahead, those pluses combine. When that happens, the minus follows along. It follows along at a distance of even one part in hundreds of millions. In this way, pluses combine and form a perfect plus realm, and when a minus realm equal to it is formed, light is given off. Is it understood?
After a minus has been determined before a plus, from then on, when the poles meet, they repel each other. Are these words actually felt? Before marrying, bachelor and bachelor can join together. And before marrying, maiden and maiden can join together. But when a spouse appears, it becomes different.
If there is a homely woman who married a handsome man, she does not like the beauties among her friends hovering about her husband. When her friends come, she dislikes it. She repels. Is it not so? Is this actually felt? This is logical. And it is the same for a man. Having received as his wife a beauty beyond compare in all the world, if his friends come crowding in and joke or even look slightly different, that man repels his friends.
What is the reason for that?
You must know it. Why is it so? Looking at the principle, a being that does not possess a foundation for giving and receiving perfectly does not last. It comes to vanish. Because the beings of plus and minus resemble the everlasting form of God, who can give and receive with each other; if they are together, they can last; but if a minus or a plus is alone, it vanishes. That is why I tell you not to dawdle but to make a spouse and subsist.
Heaven and earth, the whole world of action, is formed by the actions of repulsion and fusion. If the action of repulsion here were to repel eternally, that would be a contradiction. It is rejection for the sake of forming a second realm to subsist. Is this understood? “Yes.” Such things, once one is a university student, one ought to know. One must come into the Unification Church to learn this.
If one were to talk about such things, there would be no limit. Still, since it is better than your not having heard it, I tell you to know it.
The highest law for fallen human beings
We human beings seek to receive perfect love. Think once how much one would reject it if, while receiving perfect love from God, something else came and collided with one. Think how much one would reject it on the day it is said that, by this principle, God and we human beings have become subject and object of a love that can perfectly give and receive. Could other things come and attach themselves? If they came, they would be smashed. Is that structure actually felt?
It ought to be so, but because it did not become so, everyone is a wandering band. If one does not attach oneself somewhere, one vanishes. If that happens, one goes to hell. Hell is a storehouse of discarded goods. So one must go and attach oneself somewhere. Is it not so?
Then where must one attach oneself?
So, having searched through many religions, the finest teaching was found within the Bible. It is the passage, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength; this is the first commandment.” We came to know that this is the heavenly rule (天則). You will actually feel it. The words “Love God with all your heart and with all your mind and with all your nature” are the highest law among all the laws of existence. That it is said, “God is love,” is because God is in a position of transferring the whole of His own value and the whole of His own essence to His object.
Because there is the love of another plus-dash (+′) that has not received perfect love, repulsion comes about. Human beings must take charge of this. What kind of descendants are you? Are you sons and daughters through a bond of essential plus love in terms of lineage, or are you sons and daughters through a bond of plus-dash love? Think about it. Are you plus-dash, or plus? You are plus-dash. It is certainly plus-dash, is it not? “Yes.” And our young ladies too are certainly plus-dash, are they not? “Yes.” Then from now on the method of handling it is the problem.
What will you choose?
The freedom of choice belongs to you. Let those among you who like to perish raise your hands. You dislike perishing, do you not? There is the curse “You wretch who will perish,” but there is no curse “You fellow who will do well,” is there? Among curses, the curse “You wretch who will perish” is the worst curse. So, in order not to perish, must everyone form a relationship with God, or not? “One must form it.” In forming a relationship with God, can it be formed without passing through the content of religion? It cannot be formed.
Since it cannot, must there be religion, or not?
Is religion necessary, or unnecessary? It is absolutely necessary. If we awaken the young people of today’s university districts to this and sweep clean away the stale, rag-like ideas stuck in their brains and make them into people who say only that they must believe in religion, then communism cannot exist even if it tries.
You are descendants of the plus-dash. What sort of fellow is that plus-dash? He is the subject of evil. How on earth did that subject of evil come into being? As I spoke of briefly yesterday too, while God was preparing to marry His son and daughter and live pleasantly, an old, wily servant in that house tempted and violated Eve, whom God had raised to become the future mother of humankind, and had her form a bloodline of a different love. This is the fall.
Here lies the motive from which the words in Christianity, “Be resurrected. Be reborn. You must be born again. You must live again,” came about. Yet Christianity until now has not been able to bring this to light. Must you be reborn and born again, or stay just as you are? “We must be born again.” To be reborn, what is necessary? Because humankind was born having received the bloodline of false parents, they lost God. The root was extended wrongly. Though it has the shape of a root, it is a denial-body. That is why it cannot exist eternally. Though it possesses the bond by which it can exist eternally, because it cannot exist eternally, it must be re-created. For that, one must enter the womb of rebirth.
To revive all people, the position of True Parents must be re-established
For True Parents to come forth, a true man must first come forth, must he not?
Religion until now has come seeking one true man. Because until a completed true man is found, love cannot be forgiven by the law of heavenly principle; one is told to live the single life. Why does Christianity, a higher-dimensional religion, live the single life? Why does Buddhism too live the single life?
When a perfect man has not come forth and received a perfect woman and established the law of love, would God permit good-for-nothing men and good-for-nothing women to marry? When the original wedding has not yet been held…. That a fallen wedding was held is the bitterest of God’s grievances and the deepest of His sorrows; and are we to add rebellion on top of even that? That is why higher-dimensional religion emphasizes the single life.
Then until when must one live the single life?
Until a completed man, a true man who can become perfectly one before God’s love, comes forth and meets a true woman. What appears in this way is the True Parents. That is why the thought of Christianity is the thought of the Second Advent. The Lord of the Second Advent comes with the qualification of a True Father who becomes the ancestor of humankind.
Jesus came upon this earth to perform the mission of a father. Coming as a completed man, he was to receive a completed woman and furnish a family of True Parents in whom God could rejoice. Centering on God’s love, he was to form a subject-object relationship that never changes eternally and leave behind sons and daughters. Those sons and daughters are God’s grandchildren. The purpose was to leave behind God’s grandchildren, God’s blood kin, but because Jesus was seized and killed, that could not be done. That is why he must come again. It is the same as having to go again when one has gone on a business trip and returned without finishing the work. This is how the thought of the Second Advent came about.
Thus Jesus came as the true ancestor of humankind, that is, as a father; and having killed that father, with what will that sin be repaid? With what will that sin be forgiven? Because they committed a sin that cannot be forgiven, all people are caught in this sin and are destined to go unfailingly to hell. They are destined to receive heavenly punishment. One must hold the heart of Jesus, who prayed that the sin of those who, being beings who ought to have become sons, did not know their father and killed him, be forgiven. One must stand in the position of a father’s heart.
Therefore we must know that, centering on love, only Jesus was one who could bring new good tidings before us human beings. Because he stood in a position of being able to be loved before God, a worldwide cultural sphere formed centering on Christianity is a natural principle. If there were no deity, it might not have become so, but if there is a deity, it could not but become so.
Therefore, Jesus, at his Second Advent, must come as a bridegroom and find a bride. That is because, without re-establishing the position of true parents, all people cannot be revived. Teaching what those True Parents are is the way of the Unification Church. That is the final way.
Until now, a family was not permitted. In the Unification Church today, we hold group weddings. Among you here too, those whose heads are open will know that there is nothing so fearful as the Unification Church expelling someone without letting them hold a group wedding. Because they know that Americans too, when I say come, come running saying, “Yes, I will come”; and Japanese too, when I say come, come running saying, “Yes, I will come.” Whether the emperor opposes or the president opposes, they are arranged to come. If one thus hooks them by the nose and draws in the world, the world is arranged to be caught.
Because the fall came through love, restoration too must be done by forming a relationship with a new parental love centering on Heaven. That is why, when the Unification Church holds a group wedding, I and Mother, the two of us, perform it. That is a ceremony of the transmission of love. The tradition formed here becomes an eternal tradition. Revolution is not necessary. When such a new tradition, needing no revolution, is established in all heaven and earth, from here a new family and a new clan and a new people and a new nation and world are formed and can govern this globe.
The age of the harvest of fallen love
When you come into the Unification Church and first hear the word, it becomes a sea of tears. You even forget to eat. Going to your own house is as hateful as dying, and coming to church feels truly good. Have you felt such things? Everything is reaped as it is sown. If one sows beans, one reaps beans, and if one sows red beans, one reaps red beans.
Then how did the fall of humankind begin? How did evil come into being?
It came into being through false love. It fell by pushing God aside and having an unlawful love with Satan, that is, an illicit love. At what age did they fall? They fell as teenagers. That is why in the Last Days a worldwide age of the moral ruin of youth will come. An age in which that sweeps the world will come. In other words, an autumn season will come in which what was sown as the seed of mistaken love is harvested worldwide. When such an age comes, you must know that the age of the fruition of fallen love has come.
Now is precisely that time. Young men and women have all been trampling on precious love as they please. When a worldwide trend unfolds of young people meeting one another horizontally from a position of denying and betraying their own parents, one must take the sword of a new law of love for young people and cut this off all at once. The ideology that cuts this off becomes the ideology that will found a new world. Do you understand? So then, must you dance to this tune, or not? Must you carry on love affairs, or not? Is everything of the Western trend good?
People with such a mental disposition are arranged, in any case, to be caught by my hand. Unless they are stronger than I, they are arranged to be drawn into my strategy. This is not a bluff but earnest talk.
It was said that one reaps as one sows, was it not?
Because the autumn season has come for harvesting what was sown as the seed of false love; what is false falls. Just as leaves fall when autumn comes, false love that has not formed a bond with the record of life falls. There, one cannot feel satisfaction. It passes in a moment. At most, it lasts twenty years. Do you understand? This wind began to blow when we entered the 1960s.
One must have the vitality to pass through the winter season
When you come to know the Principle, truth is truly interesting. Living in the world becomes interesting. It is so because one lives without knowing; once one knows, living is interesting. Would you not like to become people who live interestingly? Let those who would like to become so raise their hands. Put them down. I will not teach that for nothing. I will teach it only when you pay tuition. Hereafter, when I stand at the platform and lecture, anyone who has not paid about thirty thousand won will have no seat. That is why I do not often appear in public. Do you understand? Only by coming with thirty thousand won or more prepared can one enter here. Only then is it actually felt.
Then must this in any case be dissected once, or need it not be dissected? “It must be dissected.” In dissecting, let us set such things right and make a standard in which Adam and Eve become one body centering on God. It is religion that has come holding the will to leave that behind.
If a religion comes forth saying it has made such a foundation, know that a new age has set out. If only these four — God and Adam and Eve and the archangel — become one, the start of the world is already decided. A person with eyes to recognize those four is a wise person. Only when such a standard is established can a new start be made. You understand, do you not?
That the autumn season has come means that winter is approaching. Winter is a course that only those who have life can pass through. Whatever does not possess life can only retreat here. That is why I tell you to infuse new life before winter comes. New life must possess a new ideology and thought centering on new love, and a new view of life, a new worldview, a new view of the universe. Otherwise, one cannot pass through the winter season.
If one possesses the vitality to pass through the winter season, the process of passing through is hard, but the further one goes, the nearer the spring day comes. A spring day comes. The Unification Church walks that road.
That is why, when one believes in the Unification Church, the people around one all fall away like leaves falling in the autumn season. Friends disappear, and mother and father grow distant. If they follow one, it is all the better, but they are arranged to fall away. What has life breaks through even a difficult road, but what has no life falls away. Such things happen. When one says, “Let us die together, you and I,” can they? Because God leads beings that have life, conflict arises with parents who do not have life and they separate.
Let those among you whose parents oppose raise your hands. There will be some. And there will be friends who oppose one’s belief in the Unification Church. Even schoolteachers say that believing in the Unification Church is a road of death, do they not? For people who until now know only summer and autumn, winter is death. But for beings who possess life, winter is life.
As for something like a pine-nut seed, it is by the cold of winter that the seed splits and the sprout comes out; what would happen if it were not cold? Of course the seed would split, but winter rather acts to split the seed so that the sprout can come out. The harmony of life can overcome all authority over life and death.
Members of the Unification Church today must become a band that, even if all fall away under persecution, goes forward saying, “Let us go! Let us go!” for the sake of tomorrow’s hope. Are you such a band? “Yes.” Really? “Yes.” If so, there is hope. Let us meet spring again!
Having met spring again, what must we become?
Having met spring again, we must become complete human beings who can go beyond the original perfect love. And thus let us set right the history of humankind, which did not possess the origin of true ancestors of humankind, and become sons and daughters with the authority to tread upon and rise above the wretchedness of a history that did not pass through the flesh and blood of True Parents, and seek out a new family. Do you understand? This is precisely Cosmism.
In the word “Cosmos” (천주), what kind of ju is the ju?
It is the ju meaning house (宙). Why was the ju meaning house used? You must know that. The Cosmos is the spirit world and the physical world joined. It is the formless world and the formed world joined. Everything comes down to this. This is the wonder of it.
Seen from that position, humankind, which says it will live in order to earn money, is pitiful beyond compare. Though I have performed the mission of a pioneer alone and single-handed until now, I am not lonely. Is it not splendid?
My age is fifty, but if I simply say fifty, I feel bad. It is six thousand and fifty. I have lived six thousand and fifty years. Having lived that much, I have lived well, have I not? Do I look about fifty to you? It is not merely fifty years old. It is six thousand and fifty years old. How old are you? People who believe in the Unification Church have lived six thousand years more. There are no people in the world who live as splendid a historic life as we.
I have watched many worldwide matters and therefore know much. A time will come hereafter when the world must listen to our words. Now even a leading figure of Japanese philosophy listens well to my words. That person wants to see me and keeps our house in his heart and longs for it more than his own fine residence.
I asked that old gentleman, “There is a group wedding of 777 Couples this coming October 21; will you attend, or not?” Then this old man told his secretary to check the date, and it turned out he was to have an interview with the king of Indonesia on the twenty-first. Because he had already postponed the interview with the king twice due to circumstances, postponing it this time would put him in the position of postponing it a third time. Yet the remarkable thing about this old man is that he said that the opportunity to attend this group wedding comes only once in his lifetime, whereas he can meet the king any time, and so he would cancel that plan and attend the group wedding. Would that old gentleman like me even at a loss to himself? Even in Japan he is an old gentleman who holds about four hundred billion….
Believe higher, deeper and broader than heaven and earth
Is the group wedding good, or bad? “It is good.” Then our young ladies, will you marry, or not? Do you want to marry? Let us speak frankly. Will you marry, or not? “We will.” Then will you go to the bridegroom’s house just as you are, or go to the bridegroom’s house by way of me? “We will go by way of the teacher.” Why? Because it is arranged that it will not do otherwise. Once one has come to know the doctrine of the Unification Church, one must pass through my house and go with at least a ticket; if one goes without it, one is in great trouble. You know that. And so, what will you do when I marry you? That will be your desire.
Among those who took part in the March First Movement, there is a person called Yi Gap Seong, is there not? He is now the only one living, and considering the March First Movement, is he higher than the president, or not? That is higher without even needing to ask. Likewise, people who hold a group wedding through me will receive worldwide glory. Do you understand? That is not the problem; the very fact of having been blessed through me is what matters. Do you understand? That is something one cannot buy even for hundreds of millions of dollars. Do our Unification Church young ladies know that? How much do you know it?
This time 777 Couples hold a group wedding, but hereafter we will hold one even up to 777,700,000 couples. It can be done. Hereafter, it is arranged that people will say they will receive the Blessing even by selling their own houses. If that happens, will the Unification Church become rich, or not?
In this sense, I intend to buy about ten thousand pyeong of land on Yeouido. Those who hold a group wedding this time must know the importance of this Blessing. And so I intend to make a monument commemorating the establishment of a world record.
Hereafter, a time may come when I buy the whole of Korea. If the Central Government Building costs five million won per pyeong, and I say I will give four times that, twenty million won, what else would they do but sell even the Central Government Building? Even if they build a house elsewhere, they are arranged to sell it. I can buy even the Central Government Building. Is it not so?
If that happens, hereafter anyone who will not believe in the Unification Church will have to die or go and live elsewhere. There are only those two options. Why do you laugh? It is offensive. It can be so. That is why I make the members of the Unification Church suffer and pour abuse on them and watch to see how much they endure. I am testing them.
Then for how many years do I test them?
Since God has been testing for six thousand years, I ought to test for about six hundred years. For that, I would have to live seven hundred years. Since seven hundred years is too long, I will test for about seventy years. I will live seventy years, will I not? Testing throughout a lifetime, I must then use your sons and daughters. Do you understand?
Then how much must you believe?
You must believe higher and deeper and broader than anyone in all heaven and earth. Even if I sell off your wives and sell off your sons and daughters, you must be able to like me. That is the standard. Do you understand? One must cross over such a standard. Then what about the person who speaks this way? I myself have also passed through the gate of such a test.
Why must it be so?
For God, Adam is a son and Eve is a daughter. When Adam and Eve matured, God intended to enter into Adam and enter into Eve and hold a wedding. Then whose wedding is that wedding? Is it not at once the wedding of Adam and Eve and the wedding of God? Then whose wife is Eve? At once Adam’s wife and God’s wife.
Then who is the archangel? He is the adulterer (간부, 姦夫) who took away God’s wife. Do you understand? What Satan, that is, the subject of evil, is, is the adulterer who took away God’s wife. Ganbu here does not mean an officer (간부, 幹部) of some institution. It means the adulterer who plucked away love. People did not know this.
Why does God seek to restore Satan, the enemy of love?
It is said that God is love, so why can He not forgive Satan the devil?
This is the problem. Because he trampled the love of God’s woman, He cannot forgive Satan, who is the subject of evil. That is why the bonds of heaven and earth are arranged this way.
That your ancestors received the bloodline of the adulterer who drove out the king and sat astride the queen — is that not appalling? When I think of it, I feel so bad I could die. There were times when I wanted to drain out this blood. If there were a way to get rid of this blood, I would do anything. I want to get rid of even my own beloved face and eyes and everything.
It is Teacher Moon of the Unification Church who has come forth and is at last unraveling history systematically.
Believing in a religion is to find the original Father and the original nation. That is why what religion teaches is the ridgepole teaching. Do you understand? (While writing on the board) What character is this? It is the character jong (宗), meaning “ridgepole.” What is a ridgepole? It means the highest. Is religion a ridgepole teaching, or a branch teaching? Is it a branch teaching (枝敎), or a ridgepole teaching (宗敎)? It is a ridgepole teaching. It is the highest, ridgepole teaching, which teaches the road by which the heavenly bond and the earthly bond, heavenly law and human relations, can be joined and completed. This word “religion” was truly well made. It must surely have been made by a person who prayed and attained the Way. Otherwise it was made by a person who received the inspiration of conscience.
Then, at the time of the fall, God could have cut off with a sword the neck of Satan, the enemy of love, or blown him away like dust; so why has He been like this until now? This is the problem. Why could He not wipe him out at once, and instead has let him multiply countless offspring until now, only to speak of restoration and so on at this late date?
For how long has He carried on this business?
He has carried it on from immediately after the fall. It was extended and extended and has come down to now. How appalling a thing is that! The question of why it is so, I will speak about tomorrow morning.
