Former Headquarters Church
Upon this earth, countless people live. The great majority of those countless people think centered on themselves. Yet when we ask whether all the desires one thinks of centered on oneself can be realized, it is not so.
I, in Whom a Historic Bond Dwells
For some being to exist, there must without fail be a motive. In the same way, the being called “I” too exists only when there is a motive, and we must know that it stands in the position of a result before that motive.
Furthermore, viewed from the present point in time, after the six-thousand-year course of history since the human ancestors fell, behind the existence of one’s own individual self a historic bond dwells. And in the Republic of Korea, a bond of the Republic of Korea; in the world, a bond of the world — such bonds are entangled there too.
So it is the road of life to go, centered on the bonds of past and present, toward a single purpose. In walking this road of life, the great majority of people think and act centered on themselves. But when we ask whether, for us fallen human beings today, everything can be handled centered on oneself alone and every condition of happiness can be resolved centered on oneself alone, it is not so.
To find a new point of resolution for the problem that lies in oneself, one must without fail settle the account entangled in history, and unless one settles it completely centered on the account of the age, one cannot stand in the place that history desires, or the place that the age desired.
Therefore, if I myself, who am in such a decisive position, fail to completely settle the position of past and present, I cannot escape the bond of history, and cannot make a new departure centered on the bond of the age.
Seen from this viewpoint, we can know that history until now has come forth toward a single desire, in other words, toward a certain purpose. And this age too is going forth toward a single world of desire.
Yet if there is a difference between the desire hoped for in the past and the desire hoped for in the present, we cannot make a new departure toward happiness in our human life. Therefore, the problem is how, in the one “I,” to settle the point of departure of the purpose desired in past and present.
The Present Generation, Which Has Lost Its Motive and Purpose
Then, viewed through history, in the process by which humankind today set out, what motive was there?
When we ask whether they set out holding a motive by which the purpose could be achieved, it was not so. Because the human being fell, he lost the motive by which the purpose could be achieved.
Although it is said that, from a position of having lost the purpose, they have come forth toward that purpose until now, the human history that came forth toward that purpose did not come along following a normal road.
When we consider that it has come forth passing through a winding course, turning and turning according to each age, it did not know through what twists and turns it came to be placed in such an environment. It was walking the course of a wandering life that had lost both its motive and its direction.
That is why the purpose each nation desires today has all become different. The direction of the purpose pursued from the standpoint of a nation A and the purpose pursued from the standpoint of a nation B are different.
Moreover, the standard of the purpose each desires and the purpose the nation desires are at a far distance from each other. Therefore, when we consider whether I, who was in such a position in the past and am in such a position in the present, truly stand in a normal place that can head toward a single purpose, it is all too obvious that I do not.
Then how must a human being, who has lost both the motive by which he can head toward a single purpose and the direction toward the purpose, act in the present?
And what is that motive that can enable one to behold the departure of the purpose, that motive that can equip the direction of the purpose?
Unless one completely settles the content and direction of that motive, one cannot receive a worldwide appraisal centered on the present point. Therefore, if there is a historic motive of departure, one must make clear that the direction in which that motive can set out is the content pursued today centered on me.
If one does not hold this historic motive, and fails to stand in a place where one can bring this direction into agreement, then however much we succeed upon this earth, and however wealthy and developed that nation may be, standing in a place of glory and happiness such that it can boast to the world, all of that just flows away. And once it flows away, one must clearly know that it has no relationship whatsoever with the historic bond.
The Most Important Bond for Fallen Human Beings—the Bond of Motive
Then, when we consider it centered on “our bond,” it is exceedingly important on the road of life where the point of departure of that bond must be, how the direction of the bond must go forth, and how the purpose through which the bond can be communicated must be.
Therefore, one must clearly know what this motive is, how its direction must go, and where its purpose will finally be brought to conclusion.
When, knowing this, one enters that road, then at last, centered on this bond, the single view that is beheld—one must stand at the point of content in which such a motive, direction, and purpose can agree, centered on the worldwide and whole realm, so that the worldwide bond today can come to have a relationship with me.
Unless one stands in the place where this is settled, however, any happiness of the world may come; that happiness that has come cannot become one with me.
You must know that even if there comes some person whom everyone upon this earth praises, that person and I cannot form a bond, try as we might.
What is the most important bond in the lives of us fallen selves?
The road of the bond by which one seeks the purpose is important too, and living day by day, equipping oneself with a direction in the present, is important too, but more important than that is the bond that can be the motive.
Then what is that central motive, and what is the bond of motive?
A human being who has not resolved this, however much he writhes and however much he strives, will have his direction go awry, and because that direction is different, the goal-point he aims at cannot but appear in a place of a different result.
In other words, though one may say that throughout one’s life one had what one wished to have and ate what one wished to eat and relieved one’s desires, that is not a place where the original desire and original purpose can be achieved.
Rather, one cannot but go to a sorrowful place where one can only regret and lament the days past until now. That is why, among our bonds, the most important bond is the bond of motive.
Human Beings Who Lost God’s Purpose, Desire, and Goal
Every one of the three billion people of humankind living throughout the world today, without exception, was born holding a fallen bond.
What kind of bond is that bond?
It is a bond that seeks to break away. It is not a bond that seeks to unite and rally together, but a destructive bond that seeks to split apart. It is not a bond that can take possession of everything, but a bond that loses. That is why, as we know through the Principle, we, being fallen, have lost God’s purpose, God’s desire, and God’s goal.
Then when we ask what that purpose, desire, and goal of God are, it is we ourselves today. God’s purpose, desire, and goal were not to establish some other world or nation, but to establish the original Adam and Eve. That is, it was Adam and Eve themselves.
When those Adam and Eve became unified with the Father’s bond, a true person was shaped forth, a true family was shaped forth, and a true nation and world were shaped forth.
Then, centered on what we were born, centered on where we must go, and with what as our purpose must we go?
This absolutely cannot be done leaving out God. Leaving out God, it becomes a bond without a motive. A person who does not hold a motive, however he may try to bring some work to accomplishment, cannot have that result gathered, and cannot have its value recognized.
When one builds a building, one builds according to the blueprint the designer designed. A building built without the original design cannot become the building the designer purposed.
It is the same with us human beings. When we consider our individual selves, we must know what the original bond is like. Today our minds must return seeking God. We must go seeking the homeland of goodness.
We must go seeking the nation of goodness, yearn for the tribe of goodness, and yearn for the universe of goodness and the world of goodness. Then where shall we go to seek that world we yearn for? That world does not remain in the individual; one must meet God, who is the most fundamental.
Viewed centered on God Himself, God too must have a body and a mind. If there is God’s mind and body, there must without fail be God’s sphere of life.
If a bond of parent and children is set out in God’s sphere of life, there must without fail unfold there a constitution of society, and centered on that constitution of society there will unfold the form of a tribe or a nation.
Then there, centered on the whole purpose of God, there is set up the standard of the direction in which the purpose of the nation, if a nation, or the purpose of the world, if the world, can go.
When we consider this problem, where is the very first point of departure? That point of departure is not in yourselves but in God.
We Must Set the Motive and Purpose of Life Centered on God
Therefore, what is the most important thing for fallen human beings today?
It is that we must know God.
We must know what kind of God it is who has writhed so through the course of history; we must know through what direction it is that God has been coming forth, and we must clearly know what kind of purpose God is seeking to achieve.
If we today fail to know this clearly, however much labor we make, it becomes vain labor. Active members are working here now, but that activity too, however much effort one makes, goes off at an angle from a place that has not equipped itself with the motive.
Ideology and purpose—in other words, motive and purpose—must without fail form a relationship through a straight-line course for a good result to come out.
If the result goes awry, one cannot bring the motive into agreement, and if the motive goes awry, one cannot bring the purpose into agreement. These unfold on a mutually straight line.
You must know that there is a straight line your mind wishes to go along, a straight line your body wishes to go along, and a straight line your life wishes to go along.
Likewise, God too must have a responsibility. His mind must go along, a responsibility His body must go along, and a straight line by which God Himself, formed of body and mind, goes to the world through His life.
However different the circumstances may be, the goal-point one goes toward must without fail be brought into agreement, going straight, at the focal point that can be joined to the worldwide purpose; without passing through that process, the whole purpose is not achieved. That is why we today must set out centered on this original bond.
Consider each of your minds within a single day’s life. If some discord arises in your mind within your day’s life, consider why all this is so.
You must reflect day by day on whether I have truly formed a bond with God, hold the desire that God holds, and have a bond of life by which I can head toward the place God purposes. We are acting with some purpose.
That action is decided as one of two—heavenly or earthly. Even at this very moment, there is a higher volume of oxygen intake required for our bodies to breathe.
Depending on whether one fully absorbs that volume or absorbs less, the longer one stays in such an environment, the more the difference unfolds whether that body becomes healthy or unhealthy. This is a natural phenomenon and also a natural law.
Viewed from this viewpoint centered on our individual lives, the directions of mind, body, and life must always be brought into agreement. For myself to go that way, I must be able to keep step with God, so that, centered on God, the direction of the mind, the direction of the body, and the direction of the sphere of life can be brought into agreement.
But have you today become such a self?
One must go forth to possess this, yet human beings today have been placed in a wrong position until now, going on about money and honor.
Originally the human being was created so that he could enter into God’s mind, body, and sphere of life. That road, on which God could not but do so, was already appointed.
Yet because the human being fell and stands in a place having no relation to the road he was originally to go, we must without fail return and restore ourselves into that place. This is the present position of us human beings.
Then what is the greatest ill of us fallen human beings now?
It is the act of valuing an ideology centered on the fallen, evil sovereignty.
Therefore, one must transcend the human bond centered on the bloodline of the world—the bond with the parents who bore one, and with brothers and relatives.
One must also transcend everything bonded with the environment. Thereby, unless one can be confident that one is a self who can freely steer one’s body as the original I designed, one cannot enter and stand in the enormous world of God’s motive, direction, and purpose.
When one cannot be confident that one is a self who can freely restrain and freely take up everything one lives with in the present, one cannot, from the present position, agree with the direction God goes.
The Road of Religion—the Road of Recovering the True Bond
Would it be good to live forever centered on oneself, still wearing the bond of the fallen world just as it is and holding that bond just as it is? Living so, we cannot go the road of God’s motive and the road of God’s purpose.
Even though we live like this today, where lies the cause of God’s not being with us, of our minds always feeling sorrow, and of my own self growing more inwardly lonely the further I go?
It is because we forget the bond with God that we ought to hold and go on facing only the bond of reality. Therefore, until we cultivate a time that can be broken through in the course of history, we cannot go seeking the true bond.
To cultivate that foundation, one must deny everything. The road of religion sets out from self-denial. The brothers, family, tribe, and nation thus sought out will be the very ideal nation, tribe, family, and individual that history had been seeking.
If they thus become the substance of the desire that history longed for, in this age they cannot but automatically stand in a central position.
It is not that God’s purpose is unachieved because this world is evil. It is not that the purpose is unachieved because this evil world always betrays God. The purpose was unachieved because no individual, family, tribe, or nation could decide the central position that history desires.
Thus, what has come forth to walk in place of the Israelite course of history, which came forth repeating a winding, turning road until now, is the many religious bodies of today.
So, if we rally these religious bodies, equip them with the form of a single nation, and lead them forth, God’s purpose can be achieved. That is why the world must equip itself with such a form. It must carry out give-and-take action so that it can settle into a world of a single ideology and purpose.
The world must become one world, but with individualistic or nationalistic desires, the world cannot be gathered. Therefore, one must carry out a continuous struggle to establish the ideology and protect the world.
You must know that only when the humankind of the world, from the same standpoint, yearns for and gropes for the same seat of glory with the same purpose and the same content of value, can the world equip itself with a single form. That very place is the goal-point of the bond centered on God.
Seen in this light, from where did you set out?
You set out upon entering the Unification Church. The place that set out, centered on the long six-thousand-year history, is the Unification Church. Until now, countless people and nations have striven, centered on a single point of departure. Some people meet for this purpose and then fall away, and some nations meet here now and then pass on.
Yet whatever the person, whatever the nation, there is a single point of departure at which they must meet again. It is the day of the Messiah’s Second Advent, a Christian observance. That day is the day of the whole nation’s desire, the day of the desire of the many religions, and the day of the desire of the many individuals.
Then the problem is how one must act to meet at that place. Shall one, when a time happens to come to oneself, take a direction as one pleases and meet? No. To meet this, one must without fail ride the main stem and go.
If one fails to join that confluence, one perishes. When we observe the long course of history, the people who came forth sharing the historic bond flourished. Even if it perished, because it rode the current of Providence, though it was pushed down, it rose again.
Because it grasped the direction of Providence well, it made a road that can gather the fallen world. So when one goes down following this road, Providence seems to be trampled underfoot and to perish, but it is not so.
Even looking at the national history of Israel, when they failed to be loyal before God, they went to ruin, and again, when they came into agreement with the road God pointed to, they flourished. Seen in this light, however splendid a nation may be, unless it goes in a direction that can agree with Providence, it cannot develop.
So Christianity, to agree with such a place, centered on the historic bond, sought to prepare a new foundation of history. When we consider this bond, the bond centered on Jesus is not an accidental bond but a historic bond. It was also brought into agreement with the direction of the practical life of this age. Unless this comes forth, this world cannot be saved.
To Inherit the Merit of the Forefathers
Then, viewed centered on the Unification Church itself today, what road has it walked?
Until the Unification Church came forth, it came through the road of countless individuals, the road of families, the road of tribes, the road of peoples, and the road of nations.
Even before the providential departure of the Unification Church appeared, God, looking toward the day the Unification Church would appear, has drawn history along until now. Because there is such a historic bond, a person who entered the Unification Church did not enter because he himself did well in his generation. He came in without fail through the bond of inheritance of the historic forefathers.
Our countless ancestors grasped the direction of history, so that when God rose, they must rise, and when He descended, they must descend. It is the same as this: a loyal subject must fulfill the way of loyalty when the nation flourishes, but must also fulfill the way of loyalty in the place where it perishes.
One who changes according to the times cannot become a loyal subject and cannot become a filial child. The principle of loyalty and filial piety is not established without passing through an unchanging course.
Seen from this viewpoint, the fact that you today are bonded to the Unification Church is not something centered on a few years or a few months of your life. This place is a historic place, a place of desire.
It is a place that has passed through a historic bond that can become the point of departure from which I will actually live. Then, though in your lifetime you neither saw that history nor held that bond, how can you yourself be connected to the historic bond?
And how can you be connected to the Unification Church holding a historic bond?
Whether small or great, it came about by the standard by which, in the direction of your mind, the direction of your ancestors’ minds strove to match direction together with the current of the age. That is, according to how closely they strove to be together, one comes to be able to draw near to the Unification Church.
Seen from that viewpoint, this point in which you are placed today did not come about by some individual, some so-and-so Kim. It came about through the historic bond.
Though I today am gone wrong and left to become whatever I will, because there was a foundation of merit within that historic bond that could agree with the purpose toward which our countless ancestors offered loyalty, toward the purpose of history, it is by the bond of that merit that you today have been set up. Then, you who are in such a position—as I, who has received the historic bond—have today’s self become a figure that can make the historic bond shine within daily life? You do not even know that. Since it was said that history is moved by that, if we do not do it, who will?
Viewed from the perspective of Unification Church members, the people who follow the Unification Church are not all of a single form. To gather the many nations of the world hereafter, they must equip themselves with forms of a thousand different kinds. Even in terms of occupation, there will be some who do business and some who go to a factory.
Likewise, each person’s point of departure is of a thousand different kinds. Thus, if one had a historic forefather who was loyal in the field corresponding to such a difference, one must inherit the bond of that forefather and diligently follow that road to achieve the purpose of history. And thereby the Unification Church comes to enter the sphere of Heaven’s fortune and spreads out.
Inheriting such a historic bond, you must form a new foundation. In other words, you must inherit the foundation on which your ancestors have labored until now. Therefore, when we consider your individual self placed in reality, that self is not a self within the limit of being ten-some years old or twenty years old. Nor is it a self formed by setting a boundary line within some sphere of an age. It is without fail a self formed through historicity.
That is why this place I am now passing through is upon a precious focal point that can make my whole life shine and can achieve the historic purpose. So if one does well, one can achieve the purpose, but you must know that on the day one does ill, this is completely taken away.
You have until now come forth to pass through the course of Restoration within such a bond, and the forefathers too came forth offering merit. And so now the time has come when we can make contact. The time to make contact has come, and one must set right that direction before oneself; how heartbreaking it would be if, trying to make contact by following someone else, the standard failed to match!
Moreover, from what an earnest and anxious place, as though gripping sweat in their hands, must the ancestors of the spiritual world who labored until you came here be watching!
The Mission of One Who Stands Before the Call of History
You who have come to stand before this historic call and mission must not live a life like that of human beings who merely drift by. My individual self has come through thousands of years of history, and now the time has come when I can meet God face to face. It was the historic desire to long for the day when one could become completely one and remain on this road, fighting and leading it forth.
You must consider how greatly, while knowing that you yourself stand in the place that can be connected to that focal point, you have troubled the Parent in that place. If you yourself slip and make a mistake, everything becomes miserable.
When you look at a marathon runner competing in the Olympic Games, that runner runs toward the finish line, staking the dignity of his people, to take first place. And for that moment of crossing the finish line to appear, that is, the fruit of victory, is a phenomenon that appears as the combined result of the agony of training, the apportioning of strength, endurance, and all the devotion of the sorrow and joy experienced until then. In that moment there is no other thought. Upon the running steps of all who took part hangs the new renown of the nation.
If thirty million, the flag of the rejoicing of thirty million unfurls. The nearer the moment of crossing the finish line, the more the decision of victory or defeat unfolds, and the nearer that moment, the more the winning people unite.
For us to be able to completely take hold of and overwhelm this point, it will not do to be like you, with no strength and knowing nothing, saying, “Well, it is just so-so.” The prize you win by laboring and offering devotion is eternal. The treasure obtained by staking one’s life in some place and offering every loyalty is something one wishes to keep together with one’s life forever and ever.
Seen from this viewpoint, quietly consider the life you have lived until now since entering the Unification Church. Have you truly become a self that can be the fruit-body of the bond that has come through the course of history, the single central body that this age demands, the founding knight who can set a new world in motion? When one considers the self called “I,” one has become nothing. Therefore, let us here deny our self called “I.”
One must remove the environment one has lived in until now and all the branches of resentment, and cause new branches and new sprouts to come forth. One must become a self that can break through such an environment. Therefore, people who stand in such a place must equip themselves with the original bond.
Centered on Goodness, the Place of Perishing Is the Place of Flourishing
Goodness has been trampled upon this earth, but the time of grief is bound to be overturned. Goodness is always trampled and always enters the place of perishing, but in such an environment, however great the condition of evil, in the end it overcomes it and is moved to a place of glory.
So, beholding this sinful world, if one has no strength to shove this evil world aside at once, a conviction that can break through it must arise. Outwardly, human living is just eating, sleeping, coming and going, rejoicing, and grieving. Even so, when we ask whether a person who faces
God’s purpose is not any different; it is the same. It is the same, so what is different? A difference arises in the character formed from the motive of the historic bond and the source of love.
You must know that here the difference of religion, the difference of peoples, and the difference of nations unfold.
These days, when the Teacher looks at the sales members, their minds seem quite sunk. When they go out in the morning and come back without achieving the goal, no strength comes. To sell even one thing, one must have a strong conviction to seize hold of anything at all and see it through. And when good work piles up, one can go this way and that heedlessly, keeping at it even into the night.
So how different is your thinking from the Teacher’s thinking?
The beginning and the end waver back and forth. The Teacher knew that when you went out to the field, you did not move as instructed. Such conduct must be done away with hereafter.
If the Teacher leaves it be, the spiritual world will discipline it. When motive and direction do not agree, the purpose wavers. When the central point of the purpose is not visible, it is finished.
At the standard one aims at, direction alone leads me on through the bond. In going, that motive comes to follow; the direction is presented, and one arrives at the destination. Yet, to grasp that direction, it will not do to say, “Since I am trying to grasp the direction, raise that motive for me!” That cannot be. Here contradiction and hardship unfold.
When society becomes so, it is society’s hardship; when a nation becomes so, it is the nation’s hardship. That is why, however much America commands the world, unless one keeps step there, one is isolated.
However much you boast that what the Unification Church does is the heavenly law, unless you conform to and agree with the principled line of the Unification Church, you are isolated. When one cannot correct oneself from that isolated place, one perishes.
When one is about to perish, friends and parents all leave. The place of perishing is originally where one loses everything. When Adam and Eve perished in the Garden of Eden, God too was absent.
Once one enters the place of perishing, one loses God, loses the True Parents, and loses the true tribe, people, nation, and world. In such a place, one ultimately loses even one’s own life. But conversely, the place of flourishing is where one finds everything.
That is why, when we set good and evil side by side, evil is the place of perishing and the place of losing everything, so one must not go there, and goodness is the place where one can find everything lost, so one must go seeking that road. Viewed from the center of your mind, when you do a bad deed, you come to look behind you. That is the conscience leaving me. When the conscience is stung, it leaves, saying, “Hey you, I am leaving; after I leave, you have nothing to do with me.” Thus, when one stands in the place of losing the conscience, one perishes.
Centered on goodness, the place of perishing is at once the place of flourishing, so when someone opposes it, infinite strength comes.
If it is a place where the nation flourishes, however much I am to die, I must go. The principle of Heaven and earth is set up so. Only then do I flourish, and only then can I find everything. Goodness absolutely does not perish. If it does not perish, Heaven and earth are bound to be found.
Come Into Contact with the Mainstream of History
Then what is the method by which the Unification Church Teacher guides today? What has he done for God until now?
It is precisely, “Come into contact with the mainstream of history.” It is this bond that founds the world; it is not you who found that world. The earth turns around the sun along its orbit.
Turning and turning ten million times, there is no change in it. Because it is in a normal orbit, the sun turns, and the earth is bound to turn.
What we must consider here now is our bond. Our bond today is a great one. We here have gathered, our purpose agreeing, seeking to go to the original hometown centered on the six-thousand-year bond.
In that sense, what does our Principle inform us of?
It teaches us the original God. What bond do God and I have? The bond of motive and the bond of departure are the same. Originally, the human being was born through God. God did not, in the midst of making all things of Heaven and earth, think that He would make the human being.
God made all things of Heaven and earth for the sake of the human being, His beloved sons and daughters. That is why the human being, viewed from the ideal of creation, is in the subject position. Centered on thought too, he must stand in the subject position.
Declaring this, God made the human being a purposeful substance. Because he is a purposeful substance, all the universe is bound together like a net centered on the human being. It was the fundamental bond of the human being and God that the human being and all the universe were bound together, and God should be completely bound together. Yet because the human being failed to stand within an integrated bond with God and fell, he failed to rise to that place.
God Can Escape Sorrow Only Together with Human Beings
Then what became of God?
The very motive of all departure is made of the human being, and the very purpose of creation is brought to conclusion in the human being; so, because such a human being fell, what became of God? He came to be a fallen result.
When a person makes a mistake while speaking, who takes responsibility for that mistake?
The one who spoke takes responsibility. If I made a mistake while working, I take responsibility for that too. The one who thought takes responsibility, and if there is one who carried it out, it is the same for him.
God too created the human being centered on the ideal of creation, and when that is the created being that God envisioned, it is not that the created being takes responsibility for the mistake because the created being God envisioned failed to turn out.
Just as when a manufactured article changes and fails to become what was wanted, it is not that article that takes responsibility but the person, so God, who created the human being, takes responsibility for everything of the fallen human being. That is why God has borne responsibility until now.
Because the human being fell, God, who had wished for joy, became a God of sorrow. Since He became a God of sorrow because of “me,” we must become one centered on God’s sorrow. You must know that unless one becomes centered on the sorrow, joy cannot come. Seen in this light, God and I are without fail related. Until now God has come forth bearing sorrow.
Then where does joy come from?
If I come forth first, can that be the motive of joy? It absolutely cannot be. It can be only when God rejoices.
Joy comes only by passing through the gate of sorrow. In other words, only when one begins from the place that can agree with the point of the sorrow at which God grieves can one greet a departure at which God can rejoice. That is why the road that goodness goes is the road of going to seek the historic place of sorrow.
Viewed from the standpoint of fallen human life, though joy is for the realization of the ideal of creation, which is the purpose of goodness, not everything can itself be the condition of that joy. One must break through the condition of sorrow. Thereby one must dig into and dismantle this condition of sorrow, connected historically until now, by which humankind met with misfortune. So when in grief, one must feel, “So this was God’s sorrow!”
This sorrow cannot be escaped by God Himself. Because He became a God of sorrow through the human being, God cannot escape that sorrow by Himself. If He could escape it, there would have been no need for God to have carried out the history of Restoration until now. God can escape that sorrow only together with human beings.
Because God’s sorrow began through the human being, unless the human being, at the vanguard, makes a new resolve by which he can tread over and rise above all of this sorrow, God cannot escape sorrow.
The Greatness of the Unification Church’s Principle
Then what must the seekers of the way, who have borne responsibility for the road of the Way upon this earth, and the Lord who is to come at the Last Days hereafter, do?
They, too, cannot set out with joy upon the earth. There is something they must do before giving joy to all people. It is that, in complete agreement with God, they must find a single explosive motive that can take responsibility for and resolve the sorrow hidden in the deep valley of the course of history, that is, the motive of the sorrow that made God sorrowful.
To take responsibility for a son having made the Father sorrowful, one must, centered on the Father’s mind, take hold of history and make it a world that sets out anew. We have, without fail, the mission to remove sorrow.
The strength of the Father and Son becoming one is a strength stronger than the combined strength of any powers of evil. Therefore, here a new explosive departure unfolds, and here a typhoon will arise.
That is why the Unification Church teaches one to go down such a road. The point of departure of desire does not set out from desire. It sets out through the ridge of sorrow. Because God stands in such a position, we too must go that road of sorrow.
What is happiness?
Today some people think that if they have much money, they eat well and live well and are happy. People who feel such things to be happiness are, at their root and in their content, different from us.
Then from where does happiness sprout?
Look at where the motive by which some nations can flourish arises. How did the Renaissance come to set out? It was possible because it came into contact with a motive that could be the matrix for establishing a new view of human history centered on a new ideology. To have come into contact with that motive was not an easy thing. It had to fill in and cross over all cultural gaps. To do so, one had to deny everything of the present.
When the standard of denial at that time became stronger than the outer environment denied, one could cross over that outer environment. It was in that way that the Renaissance set out.
From where can the Kingdom of Heaven begin?
Without God’s sorrow being relieved, one cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
Because we fallen human beings have woven a sorrowful history until now since the Fall, we must directly seek all the bonds of the sorrowful history. We must seek that bond in the six thousand years of history from Adam and Eve.
What is meant to teach such a God of sorrow is the Principle of the Unification Church. The people of the world, if there is sorrow, all flee, saying they dislike it.
What teaches God’s sorrow, which is more wretched than any account of sorrowful content, is the Unification Church Principle. In the world, if there is a sorrowful matter, all try to evade and flee it, but the matrix of the Unification Church Principle is the will to pass through this sorrowful place. In the world, when there is a sorrowful matter, all try to avoid it, but the human being is originally set up so that he cannot do so.
The more one knows the sorrow toward God, the more a powerful strength comes forth in the actual Unification Church. The more one knows the wretched content of God, the source of the strength that seeks to relieve it becomes a motive that gives rise to an infinitely explosive action. This is the great strength the Unification Church possesses.
Let Us Not Forget That the Road of Restoration Is a Road of Sorrow
So we must first meet the sorrowful God. We must meet the God who is more sorrowful than anyone in history, the God who became the great king of sorrow.
When we meet that God and tread over and rise above that sorrow, a strong joy surges up in my mind. At that time we must equip ourselves with the condition that can be newly greeted. It is like this: when one has eaten only bitter things and then eats even a little of something sweet, it is felt to be tremendously sweet.
What will God, who is in such a position, desire of fallen human beings?
If you first feel God’s agony, stand in the position of a son, and walk the course of Restoration, God can, with that explosive love of the homeland, dispense the history of love centered on a day without shame.
There is a single unified standard that can form a bond, not from a place of merely calling upon God after treading over and rising above the ridge of sorrow from the original, pure standpoint, but from a place where the great mountains shake, and the bones, flesh, and cells can throb.
Because the place from which one came forth holding the motive became a perfect standard that Satan absolutely cannot invade, from here one works centered on the point of departure and the heart from which the complete energy of Restoration wells up.
Because one set out with sorrow, joy comes only by pushing through the wall of sorrow and rising. If, while living upon this earth, one fails to resolve that sorrow oneself, one goes to the spiritual world, enters the sphere of the boundary line of sorrow, and suffers agony forever.
If it becomes so, one can never form a relationship with joy.
So our Unification Church teaches the sorrow of God, the subject of the historic bond. Yet we, as sons and daughters bearing that sorrow, who have woven a history of sorrow, have until now forgotten the sorrowful road. But from now on we must be able to break through the wall knotted individually, and the wall knotted nationally and worldwide.
If, forgetting that we have been called before God, we fail to fulfill individual responsibility, we perish. The family perishes when it fails to fulfill the responsibility to tear down the wall of the tribe and liberate the tribe; the tribe perishes when it fails to fulfill the responsibility to remove all the conditions of sorrow toward the people.
The nation, the world, and the Cosmos are all the same. When we consider these things, on the course of those who follow the Unification Church today, the road of sorrow lies layer upon layer.
The Reason We Have Endured
Until now, the war we have fought was a fight against the nation. We have fought a fight against the nation until now. Even while fighting against the nation, we were driven and defeated again and again.
For what did we endure being defeated, restraining ourselves, and overcoming it? It was to win victory in a greater fight. That is why the Teacher has until now said, “Stay still. Stay still.
Even if trampled, stay still.” We did such a poor-looking thing because there was no opponent with whom to fight a fight centered on love, and it was to bring about the time when we could take responsibility in the arena of the showdown.
So the more we yielded, the more we went on pledging a road by which, throwing in all that inner strength, we could burst it all out at once at some opportunity.
Being driven and pursued until now was to take possession of a national condition that could come thereafter, or a victory in a wider field. Must it not be so?
Yet these days the Unification members are all sitting slumped, saying, “That was so in the old days. It was so in the old days, but now I dislike it.” Though the time has come when we must actually fight a worldwide fight, if one thinks only of the old village fights and goes on saying, “Ah, those were the good days,” one perishes. One perishes. Behind such of you, there is neither nation nor world.
That is why, from this viewpoint, we must tear down all the walls of God’s sorrow. One must fight to remove the sorrow of the family rather than the sorrow of the individual, and to save the tribe, one must be able to sacrifice the family.
Furthermore, one must set up the tribe and save the people, and even if one must sacrifice the people, one must save the nation. Going further, even if thirty million of the Republic of Korea, if the Republic of Korea, are all sacrificed, one must be able to save the world.
Then what does God’s Providence demand?
It demands individual victory. It demands individual victory because it desires family victory, and it desires family victory because it desires tribal victory. It desires the victory of tribe, people, and nation to lay the foundation of worldwide victory. Do you understand? So Heaven’s Providence is rushing.
For the Restoration of the World, Self-Sacrifice Is Needed
Seen in this light, what does the Unification Church teach?
It teaches the boundlessly sorrowful God. It teaches such a God to make us go together in the direction God goes. God, bearing the history that set out with sorrow, goes toward Restoration bearing individual sorrow, family sorrow, tribal sorrow, national sorrow, the sorrow of the nation-state, worldwide sorrow, and the sorrow of the Cosmos.
Today, for the world to aim outwardly at a single world, all the elements of sorrow spread throughout the whole world must be removed, and who takes responsibility for that?
If America cannot bear that responsibility, Korea must bear it.
If, centered on today’s grave events of the world, including the Vietnam War, the sovereign retreats because the public opinion of the American people says this or that, he perishes.
Where does the world go?
In what direction will human history be gathered after retreat?
If one fails to equip this, then one truly perishes. The Soviet Communist Party too, if it fails to do so, perishes.
Then what is the one road by which one can flourish?
One must stand in a position that can agree, centered on the direction of the Providence God goes. One must become a people that can, embracing all the world’s sorrow and being wounded in the world’s stead, step forth without minding even entering the place of dying, bearing responsibility for worldwide sorrow.
And thereby, even if those people have no land to stand on and are scattered throughout the world, as long as the thought that people left behind remains, the heavenly fortune opens by which the world can be gathered with that thought. Do you understand what I mean? “Yes.”
One must not boast of one’s national culture. One must not boast of one’s authority as a worldwide Christian nation at present.
If one fails to become a people that can bear responsibility for the world of sorrow that is to come, this people’s sovereignty and desire will be lost.
However wretched a place a people may be in, without holding national sovereignty, if it possesses a national character that can, strongly and boldly, take responsibility for the world’s sorrow, that people will greet the world of victory. It is such a world of victory that the individual longs for, that the family longs for, and that the tribe, people, nation, and world long for. So do not be discouraged, but fight to the end.
Even living the life of a lonely shepherd, or becoming a wandering people and living a sorrowful, han-filled life while being driven, one must become a people that can resolve to take responsibility for the world of sorrow to come.
Such a people will become a people that can be blessed by God for thousands and tens of thousands of years. And that people will, in the end, conquer the world. To become such a people, one must abandon even the national culture and abandon the sovereignty of the people. Such things may be lost.
To take possession of the world, one must sever oneself from what is narrow. If there is a band that holds such a view, that band will without fail meet a decisive time on some day.
When Jesus was dying nailed to the cross, he did not think, “Alas, I am dying because I met the wrong parents. I am dying because my disciples betrayed me,” or “I am dying because the Israelite people, who represent all humankind, failed to take responsibility.” It was because Heaven and earth failed to take responsibility. This responsibility is the responsibility of Heaven and earth, and not the responsibility of one age alone but a historic responsibility. Because Heaven and earth failed to take responsibility, Jesus’ life was lonely.
Since he cast aside all that responsibility and cultivated it anew, Christianity must become the center and fulfill the responsibility the earth bears.
The meaning of this prayer, “O my Father, not as I will, but as thou wilt…” (Matt. 26:39), was not that he longed for happiness within a given limit, but that there appeared a mind that, within the sphere of a single lifetime, desired the restoration of the world more than anyone. It is the same as God’s longing for the sake of the world and the universe.
So when we look at “my will” and “God’s will,” Jesus’ will was a will that wished to long within some sphere of limit, but God had crossed over that boundary line.
When Jesus beheld the Father, who was concerned for the world beyond the Israelite people, and knew that within the Father’s mind He held the heart of suffering that must go to the world, Jesus prayed the earnest prayer, “Not as I will, but as thou wilt.”
What is that Father’s will?
It is worldwide Restoration. Because he sought to save the world but death lay across the way so that he could not go, the place where he held a proclamation and a declaration, saying, “Even if I cannot go, I will form a bond with God so that people of later generations can walk this road,” was the very cross. Therefore, Jesus, though on one side he stood in the position of the loser, became the subject of God’s heart and the foremost one who takes possession of suffering and sorrow.
Then what was the standard by which he could take possession of sorrow?
It was the hope that he could set out toward a new world of hope. Seen in this light, the Unification Church is the place that teaches God’s sorrow, which can be the bond of motive.
Then in what direction must one go forth?
One must go forth in a single direction, the direction of liberation and unification. Because God is one, the purpose cannot be two. The road the purpose pursues cannot be two.
Therefore, the human being must go forth toward that single purpose. Here lies the reason you must make this clear and live. Therefore, one must share the point of departure with Heaven and must not make it different. The Teacher knows all this. That the Teacher tells you these things is also because there are such circumstances.
Yet you and the Teacher may be split apart. Unless that standard matches when one goes to the spiritual world, one cannot return together.
Unification Believers, Who Must Relieve God’s Sorrow
Since everything is set up according to the Principle, viewed centered on the Principle, beginning, middle, and end—three points—are needed. Now the Providence has motive and purpose on a straight line.
If one takes one center of the straight line as the present, the left is like the past and the right is like the future. So the present must be able to move the past, think of the future, and integrate the strength of these two worlds; only then does it become the center.
Then what does the Unification Church teach you?
It does not teach a joyful thing. Because the motive was sorrow, it teaches not a joyful history but a sorrowful history. Yet though the first departure was sorrowful, someday there is a time when this sorrow ends. Do you understand?
For this sorrow to end, your faith and your living must be better than those of anyone in the world. The yoke of this sorrowful world has come down until now, but on the day this is relieved, it is liberation.
Then how must each of you act?
You now stand in a place where you can set out centered on the heart of resentment and sorrow that God has borne for six thousand years. Because you have stood in a place where you can keenly feel God’s heart, you can feel, filling your whole self, the sorrow of God, who has labored for six thousand years.
Do you understand what I mean?
Furthermore, the mind of a parent loving a child has continued for six thousand years, but it is unchanged whether then or now. This is because the bond of parent and child, that is, the bond of father and son, is the center.
Therefore, the Father’s sorrow becomes the son’s sorrow, and the son’s sorrow becomes the Father’s sorrow. And the Father’s joy is the son’s joy, and the son’s joy becomes the Father’s joy. So, going ahead of the sorrowful Father on the road he goes, we must gather the sorrowful road.
And in doing so, we must know what it is that we must bear. It is that we must liberate the people, and must liberate Asia. Furthermore, we must liberate the Republic of Korea before the purpose, and must liberate America. This is what we must do. Other things can be done later. What I mean is that we must first relieve the blood-knotted sorrow of God and pass over. Do you understand?
Then how are we, who are at the present point, now? Unification believers must go the road that has motive and purpose. Must it not be so? Then why is it that you do not go? Do you wish it to be the other way around?
We must go seeking the motive. We must seek the cause and go seeking the bond. Thereby we must seek the bond that was sorrowful and achieve the purpose of going to seek the sorrowful bond.
We Unification believers must be able to say that we have achieved all that. Otherwise, you become pitiful. You come to lose everything. Do you understand? “Yes.”
The road of going to seek goodness in the fallen world is sorrowful. You must know that. If there is a goodness here that is not so, it is a fake.
Among the people here today, there are many who wish to settle down and sit inside the Unification Church. Those people are “fakes.” All those who, centering on their living, say, “Purpose or whatever, let us just live comfortably,” are fakes. When I quietly examine you here, there are many fakes. The other day, when it was said that money would be given to the sales members, some people centered on that money. Such a person is a fake.
If one moves thinking of that, one can become only that much of a person. One receives blessings only by working with the thought, “This is absolutely necessary for my activity.” Then one is bound to receive several times what one has done in activity. To keep public trust is God’s law.
One must work with this thought, knowing this: the thought “How much money will I make if I do this?” ruins oneself. One must absolutely not think such a thing. Perhaps because the activity is hard, there are many sick people among our Unification Church members. A little while ago I saw that, leaving only two people, they were all moving about to take medicine.
The road we go, centered on the God with whom we have formed a bond, is a road of sorrow. That road is also difficult and dangerous. When we cross over this road, how greatly will we think of the things past? We will always think of them.
On the Road of Restoration, Everyone Is Needed
People generally, if they have a house to sleep in and much to eat, become smug with that. But for the Teacher, such things are mostly needed for strategy, not the purpose. The Teacher thought so. That is the road of being favored before God.
Thereby one gathers the individual, family, and society, and, going further, gathers the Republic of Korea and spreads out to the world. Only by going with such a mind does a greater foundation of practice arise, and even when an unpleasant mind arises, one can go on as though it were nothing. Therefore, if one works with such a mind at the present point, one is not discouraged. Do you understand? “Yes.”
And since it is called our bond, among ourselves we must especially feel one another and encounter one another. There the wife is needed too, and the husband is needed too. The young are needed too, and the old are needed too. For this reason, we have done the work of equipping a common shape, whatever the public opinion of all people may be.
If one were to say that aged people are not needed, what would become of things hereafter? If one comes to stand in a position of turning away from all aged people, the national character of that nation disappears. Do you understand? A person who comes to dislike aged people becomes, viewed centered on the traditionality of those people, a person who sells out the national character.
Yet these days children deny their parents. They deny even the morality of human relations. When one denies human relations, it is the Last Days. Our Unification Church must not be so. One must not dance keeping time to such a present trend.
The Unification Church must have a bond that can be truly and eternally affirmed. Parents as parents, children as children, teachers as teachers must form relationships. Therefore, it will not do with young people alone. In this purpose, aged people are needed too.
Therefore, one must value aged people. Hereafter, centered on the Teacher, such work will be carried out.
If what the Teacher has told you is true, one must at any rate not die. On the day one remains long and long, all our family members are needed. The aged people here are all needed too, I say.
When one goes into the young people’s rooms, there are cases where people who ought to understand make the Teacher knit his brow and frown. Because their spirits seem to have grown lax lately, the Teacher sometimes asks even about things he knows. Do you know why that is?
If one fails to value people who are aged and lacking in strength, that people’s national spirit grows dim. Do you understand what I mean? “Yes.”
The Way to Love
Viewed in the center of the bond by which we have gathered, the Unification Church was not formed through “me.” The world too was not formed through “me.” It was formed through the whole. It was formed through us. That whole cannot move centered on me. Then, to move the world, centered on whom must one move? God. That is why I cannot but live attending God.
So, in moving centered on God, the baby is needed too, the adult is needed too, and both son and daughter are needed. Centered on a single tribe, all are needed. Whatever kind of person, that is, even a criminal in prison is needed, and even a dying person is needed in that world. That is why “Love the humankind of the world, love the people, and then love myself”—this is the road that goes to Heaven. Having loved humankind, one must then love one’s own family. This is the tradition in which you will be educated hereafter.
We must live by such an ideology. Even in eating a meal, one must find out whether there is anyone in the village going hungry, and if there is one going hungry, one must eat only after helping them. This is Heaven’s mind.
When the Teacher was in prison, when you brought various things packed in a bundle, the Teacher gave it all away to other people. Even there the Teacher lived centered on the purpose of public righteousness.
Heaven keeps alive the person who pursues learning in a place harsher than that, and who, even in the place of death, does not spare his labor. And if there is a person who writhes, saying, “O Master of goodness, O homeland of goodness, O day of goodness, come quickly and liberate me,” Heaven is together with that crying mind.
If the members of the Unification Church today face the Teacher, centering on themselves, the humankind of the world cannot yearn for the Teacher. They absolutely cannot yearn for him. Even in the give-and-take of Heaven and earth centered on love, without matching each other, one cannot yearn.
Yet some people forsake their people, come to Korea, and pray for Korea to be saved; from where does that strength come? They too, admirably, have such a mind welling up again and again because they held God’s purpose. The more one goes holding God’s mind, the more the bundle of love is dragged behind one like a great mountain.
When some man and some woman commune in purpose, that heart of resolving to love each other is the same whether man or woman. “Since I have met God, I must hold a mind that can love all people more than anyone, even amid any tribulation” — a person who can, pierced by such a writhing heart, think deeply has a great strength coming forth behind him.
It is not that the Teacher sets you to work to gain profit. Now it has come to such a state that, even if the Teacher does not think of them, the people of the world cannot but think of the Teacher.
Now, even without praying for them, because of this foundation cultivated until now, God can bring out public value in that prayer, and there is a personal footing that can hold up the praying people hereafter. That is why the Teacher has many things in which the purpose was achieved in an epochal way. You must know that these are our bond.
We, Who Must Found a World of Bonds Centered on God
If your love has grown cold, who must re-educate you?
Losing love came about because one forgot God’s sorrow. God is the Father, and we are the sons. Though it is a bond of father and son that can be together forever, now we stand in a position opposed to that. Do you feel this vividly, or not? Even while knowing that the Father labors, if one does not know why He labors, it is of no use.
The road that the Father goes is not a road an individual goes, but a road for restoring the people, nation, and world, passing beyond the family. In other words, before embracing the family, one must love the people, and before embracing the people, one must love the world. This is love. Without loving the world, one cannot embrace the people. And without loving the people, one cannot love one’s own family. That is why, on the course of Restoration, we must go holding such a mind of love.
Viewed in terms of the Unification Church, Unification Church members are individuals, but when one says the Unification Church, it means the whole. To achieve such a whole, God has come through countless wars and the course of history over a long time.
So the bond of meeting, having torn down the historic walls between individuals, was formed in the Unification Church. People who disregard this receive historic judgment. You must know that we are thus bonded by an appalling bond.
Until now each of us has, centered on God, fought and fought Satan and remained. Now this remaining band must prepare a second operation. Then what is that operation?
That operation is to fight for the nation and the world. We stand on the road of having to prepare and train for this. That is why you must well know that comrades are needed and family members are needed. Do you understand? “Yes.”
You must become one who can vividly feel for certain that our bond, which has clarified the bond centered on God, is pure. Once you clearly know these things, would there be time to die? However much money there is, one would not dislike it. What I mean is that if one is to earn money, one must earn so that the Unification Church becomes first in the world.
Since the road has appeared, brace yourself on both legs and live, I say. Even if there is work the people of the world dislike, one must go forth boldly. And so one must earn money that can be used for the sake of the world.
One must gain results to earn money that can be used and worked with for the sake of the world and for the sake of the nation. So how weary one must be personally! God knows your weariness.
If one overcomes that hardship, the glory of Heaven and one’s own bond with it remain. Knowing these things, you must found such a world of bonds.
You must clearly know that one cannot live apart from bonds. The eyes of a person are set up to see, the nose is set up to breathe, and the mouth is set up to eat. All are bonded so. Therefore, we too must seek and establish a world of bonds. In other words, we must found a world of bonds centered on God. Do you understand? “Yes.”
Father, grant us to know, centered on Thy sorrowful, sorrowful heart, how precious a time is the one time in which Father and son can meet each other in a bond of father and son in this Heaven and earth.
We are figures far too lowly to become the Father’s sons. When we consider that we were selves who indiscriminately called out, “Father! Father!” Upon Thy holy and wondrous name, grant us to realize that, even if we could be recognized as being in the same place as when we called the Father with a choked throat in the days when we did not know the Father, and so be forgiven, we are selves who, as those grown to maturity, cannot call the Father.
Grant us to know that the name that can bloom forth as a lofty, precious, holy, immortal flower is the Father’s name. We have come to know that within the Father’s name is the Father’s mind. Grant that we may become Thy substance, and grant us to become Thy children who, knowing that Thou art a Father who has come forth shedding tears with the spiritual world behind Thee, soothe a sorrowful mind with a mind that always wishes to love the child and embrace the child, yearn for that figure.
At the holy place where one can truly call the Father, at the place of meeting the son who labored to cross over the ridge of the han of history, please let us know how merciful, how joyful, how overwhelming a Word is the Father’s voice that, facing that son, calls, “So-and-so!” We know that it is the road of Restoration that, at that place, the Father and we must meet in a bond of father and son.
Father, we have come to know how holy a word, how lofty in ideal a word, these two syllables, “unification.” Grant that we may not forget that the place that can teach such a lofty and holy unification is the Unification Church. Today we have come to know from where that unification unfolds.
We have come to know that unification is achieved at the place where one can, without turning away, share the folds of sorrow that soak through and through the deep valley of the heart within the Father’s mind, and where the Father’s whole mind can be consoled by my mind.
Yet we did not know until now the fact that only when the mind, overflowing with the hope of resolving this, knowing that the ridge of that sorrow is enormous, is greater than that sorrowful mind, does the bond of unification sprout and the bond form at that place.
Rouse a new alertness in the minds of Thy children gathered here today. And grant us to feel once again that, though Heaven’s labor for unification was wretched, the foundation of the bond that the Unification Church can leave behind was also wretched.
Though it is a Unification Church that has left a historic bond of some ten-odd years until now, grant us to know that behind that wretched history dwells the sorrow of thousands of years of history. Grant us to awaken to the fact that one who feels the history hidden deep, deep behind it is a Unification believer in the true sense, more than one who traces the history the Unification Church has shown until now.
Grant that we may become believers who, not Unification believers who merely join today’s reality and move by the name of the Unification Church alone, but who hold the desire of the Unification Church and have a bond with the Unification Church from a place higher than the many spirit individuals of the spiritual world who endured through thousands of years of history.
We have come to know through the Principle that it is the present point that must go ahead of even the spirit individuals. Since it must not end merely with knowing such a fact, grant us to know also that that knowing judges me at the Last Day.
We know that the countless people who longed in history for this bond to be achieved now, in the spiritual world, know the value of the Unification Church and are protecting and cooperating with the road the Unification Church goes, offering every loyalty.
When we consider the position that they cannot but be indebted to the people of earth, the people of earth are far too weak and lacking, ignorant children. Grant us clearly to realize, we earnestly hope and desire, that though the substance of the desire they came forth hoping for has appeared, that substance stands rather in the fearful place of casting a condition of sorrow over them.
If we become Thy sons and daughters equipped with original authority and an original posture, the Father’s love and the Father’s grace will always come upon us, and the Father’s mercy, the Father’s authority, and the Father’s holy voice will overflow within our lives; but we earnestly hope and desire that Thou wilt look with mercy upon our movements, which are not so.
We earnestly hope that Thou wilt grant that we may become Thy children who can, for the Father’s sake, inherit the Father’s sorrow and explode a bond of joy.
When we behold these people, we know that sorrowful accounts remain for this people. When we behold the three-thousand-ri peninsula, we know that the residue of sorrow remains on this three-thousand-ri peninsula. Therefore, we must equip ourselves with every condition that can resolve all inner and outer problems.
Grant, we earnestly hope and desire that on the inner side, centered on the spiritual content, we may come into contact with the Father’s sorrow, and, on the outer problem, come into contact with the sorrow of the false material world, so that we may become sons and daughters who can sweep away all inner and outer sorrow.
Where are the loyal subjects and virtuous women, and where are the filial sons and filial daughters?
We know that those who consoled the sorrowful Father in the inner position and who took responsibility for all the sorrowful twists and turns before us and took responsibility for the road of death were loyal subjects and virtuous women.
Therefore, make us loyal subjects, virtuous women, filial sons, and filial daughters who can, standing amid the Father’s inner sorrow and the world’s outer sorrow, console the Father and deny the earth. Grant us clearly to know, Father, we earnestly hope and desire, that only by becoming a person who knows how to deny the present sorrowful world can one become Thy true son and daughter.
Grant that we may not become human beings who lay upon others the cross we ourselves must bear, and grant us clearly to know that we cannot but bear this cross and follow the Father.
Since the individual has borne the individual’s cross, the family’s cross, and the tribal, national, and worldwide cross, all of them, we must console one another and share that heavy cross. Therefore grant that we may not forget, Father; we earnestly hope and desire that we are Heaven’s warriors who cannot but attend the Father, become completely one, bear this holy responsibility, and found God’s Kingdom upon this earth.
We earnestly hope and desire that Thou wilt grant us to become laborers of unification who lack nothing to completely inherit this wondrous heavenly bond and to inherit all the authority of the hope that is to come. Today is a holy day! Gather us at Thy altar. Repay a thousandfold, ten-thousandfold before all the devoted minds that yearn for and pray to the Father, and since some have pledged the road of death and the road of sacrifice according to the purpose of public righteousness, O Father! Protect them.
We earnestly hope and desire that Heaven will always stand on their side and remember them in the leaving behind of the national spirit and the traditional content of the Church. Thereby, asking that the Father’s loftiness and preciousness be with our life and with all of us forever and ever, we have offered up all these words in the holy name of the True Parents. Amen. Our Bond
