We are in a position where, from 1970 until 1973, we must secure an organization for the sake of God’s will. Therefore, in carrying out this strategy, of course, we must also do overall group activity, but individually each person must witness to one person a month. That is possible if one offers devotion. While we live upon this earth, there is nothing we can leave behind centering on God but witnessing.
When one goes to that world, if there is no one to whom one has been a witness, one is in the same position as a person with no descendants on this earth. Because this is a formula according to the Principle, you must work things out centering on this formula.
The importance of witnessing to one person a month
I told the 430 Families to become tribal messiahs, but they do not all know why I said that. While you live on this earth, you must witness to your parents and relatives. Accordingly, one family must witness to at least 120 people. This is the mission of your lifetime. To go forward centering on such a goal is the road the Unification Church walks.
That I fill out the numbers according to the Principle — 36 Families, 72 Families, 120 Families — is also because that is the formula. You, too, must all walk this road of the formula. This is a road of destiny that, if it is not walked now, must be walked again even by descendants of tens of thousands of generations. You probably do not know such facts well.
That is why the road you must walk is very urgent. It is so urgent that there is no time to eat and no time to rest. You are not meant to spend time uselessly. It is similar to young women around the age of twenty who must prepare to marry.
When one marries, one must become a daughter-in-law and a wife who can adapt to the household of the husband’s family. To do so, one must not fall short of the husband’s family in every respect—not only in knowledge but also in the authority and position inherited from one’s own parents. If, measured against the husband’s family, one’s level falls short, that bride cannot uphold her dignity and will have to be ashamed.
While on earth, one must witness to 120 people
We do not live eternally upon this earth. We live briefly like travelers and then go to the spirit world. But in going, we do not simply go. People of the world think that when one dies, life is all over, but it is not so. Death is a new beginning.
If a baby in the womb, at the moment of being born, could feel and think about being born, how frightening would that be! While the baby is in the womb, it cannot dream that it will be born on this earth, where there is air, and it will be supplied with the elements of life through breathing. Just as such a second beginning of life of a higher dimension unfolds from the very moment of birth out of the womb, so the third world begins when, through death, one takes off the physical body. That world is a world in which an individual who was within the limits of matter goes beyond those limits and acts as an awakened self from a position that transcends everything. That world is the spirit world.
Going to that world is like a child being born. Just as a baby grows for ten months in the womb receiving the nutrients of its parents, so you who live on this earth grow through three great parents: the parents who gave birth to you, the parents of the earth, and the parents of Heaven.
Some parents gave birth to you, did they not?
And the earth too is your parent. Because it is the earth that raises your body. And just as a human being has a mind and a body, at the same time as there are physical parents who gave birth to the body, there are parents of the mind. Those parents of the mind are God. Living a life attending to these three great parents is what physical life is. In this way, you live, receiving the benefit of a relationship with three great parents. Therefore, there must be no parent of the earth, and there must be no physical parents, and there must be no eternal parent of the mind.
Seen from this point, what does our departing from the world mean?
It means returning to the bosom of the eternal parent. Then how must one go about going? Just as we grow in the world of the womb for ten months, receiving our parents’ nutrients, so while we live upon this earth, we must go, having received our parents’ love. We must go feeling no insufficiency in material life and feeling no insufficiency in spiritual life either.
Finishing one’s life within a boundary line of a hundred years and setting out for the third world is what death is. Thus, death is not an end but a new beginning.
Just as a baby must grow well within the womb for a sound child to be born, so in this world too one must live well. For a fallen human being to be reborn through this earthly life, various conditions according to the Principle must be established, and if one goes without having established such conditions, one is in great trouble.
Considering such a matter, you must witness to 120 people before you grow old and die. Looking at how the people of Israel organized their tribes, it starts with the twelve brothers of Jacob’s family. Centering on these twelve brothers, the seventy family members were formed, and from these seventy family members, the 120 disciples again arose. These seventy family members represent the clan. In the age of Moses, the people of Israel were moved, centering on the twelve tribal chiefs and the seventy elders.
The 120 disciples represent the world. Jesus too sought to make a worldwide start, centering on 120 disciples, but he could not do it. We must furnish this. On the road that goes forward with the world as its standard, one must establish, step by step, one’s own descendants, who can build a bridge. In establishing descendants, one does not establish them any way but must establish them in a position where they can become worldwide representatives. What is this? It is the Unification Church’s group weddings of 36 Couples, 72 Couples, 124 Couples. The 36 Families, being three times twelve couples, represent the three ages.
The being called “I” today is the fruit of the past, the center of the present age, and the beginning of the future. That is, it is a union representing three ages. What combines the form of these three ages is the number thirty-six. Multiplying the number twelve again by the three ages makes 36 Couples, and because, centering on these 36 Couples, sons and daughters of the Cain type and the Abel type must be restored, 72 Families come forth.
Next, centering on the number twelve in four directions and multiplying this by ten, it becomes the number 120. Because this number, 120, symbolizes the world, the 120 Families represent all the nations of the world.
That is why, by the year 1967, the nations that had joined the United Nations had to be at least 120. According to the Principle, it was arranged to fit exactly like that. It did not happen by chance. When the time comes that everything matches like this, it becomes the Last Days (끝날) of the world.
Since everything matched, centering on the year 1967, as it crossed over into 1968, it increased to 124 nations, 125 nations. Thus, unless the number of nations joining the United Nations matches, the history of restoration is not woven. So it is a formula-like history.
The road of the Principle is a road everyone must tread
What must you yourselves do while you live upon this earth?
To establish the center of one family, three sons are necessary. These three sons are the same as one side, the east side, if it is the east. With three sons alone, one cannot furnish all four directions, east, west, south, and north. Without furnishing the four directions, there can be no spring, and there can be no summer either.
Only upon a foundation furnished with the four directions is there spring as well. Three sons and daughters are the same as the three gates of the east among the twelve pearl gates of the spirit world. But to establish the framework of one family, three children of faith are necessary.
Next, to furnish the four directions and furnish one central standard representing the people of Israel, the number twelve must be furnished. That is why Jesus also established twelve disciples. It is furnished in that way. Accordingly, you too must witness to furnish such a standard.
If, from the position of a clan head representing the clan, you do not complete the clan-level mission, then even if you have received the Blessing, you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. Even though the gate of heaven is open, one cannot enter before one has furnished the wedding garment. The cause of Jesus’ labor centering on the 120 disciples, or the seventy disciples, or the twelve apostles lies here as well.
This is one club and one condition of indemnity. In other words, because this number becomes a vertical or horizontal foundation representing the historical ancestors, it is an absolute number. That is why it is written that the Holy Spirit descended, centering on the 120 disciples. From here, world history at last begins. You, too, must establish such a standard and carry out restoration. It is not vague. The Unification Church is not vague. It is formula-like. I, too, have walked a road of suffering until now to pass through such a formula-like course.
Walking this formula-like course is not for the church but for oneself. What I have commanded you until now is to help you, not for the church. Because it is thus for oneself, I tell you not to have the thought that you are doing it for the church.
The road human beings must walk is the nation and the world, so everyone must walk that road. From such a position, we have until now fought a war of attrition. But because a time has now come when our church can leap forward, if hereafter you unite as one and mount a concentrated offensive, our human resources will increase considerably. I am now doing such work inwardly and outwardly.
And so we are pressing down on everything from Seoul, the very top. If only we do well in Seoul, the top, the established churches in the provinces will all topple over at once. It is not difficult. It is enough to set up some thirty of the famous officers of the established churches and have them state in the eight major newspapers saying that they repent of having opposed the Unification Church until now without knowing it.
If we simply have them publish a statement of apology to all the believers of every religious body and every denomination throughout the country— “The Unification Church is a church bearing a historic and worldwide mission. The truth of that church is tremendous content that will remain long in this age of history even as scholarship. Yet we repent of the past, in which we failed to recognize that and opposed it. At the same time, in the future we welcome the Unification Church in a new sense”—then instantly they are bound to turn around completely. Such a time is not far off. When such a time comes, you will have no chance to witness it. If the people who attended the established churches turn around all at once, those who witnessed it there will set them up as their children of faith, and they will not come to you.
What is the Principle? It is a formula of fundamental rules. This cannot be ridden over even by my grandfather, and it cannot be ridden over by me either. I, too, must tread the road of the Principle. You must know that the road of the Principle is a road to be trodden, and the road of restoration is a road to be sought.
Because Adam and Eve, the ancestors of humankind, lost the road of the ancestors, you must go and seek it out. So the road of restoration is a road to be sought, and the road of the Principle is a road to be trodden. Do you understand? Because the road of the Principle is a road to be trodden, you must walk the road I walk. Yet my road is a road trodden after fighting and winning against spiritual Satan and worldly Satan—that is, cosmic Satan centering on spirit and body—while you do not have that. You have no worldwide Satan and no national Satan.
If you actually felt that your parents and siblings are going to hell,
Today, when we witness in the Unification Church, does anyone oppose it or not?
They do not, do they? You have no cosmic-historical Satan and no national Satan. Yet against me, individual Satan, family-level Satan, clan-level Satan, people-level Satan, national Satan, worldwide Satan, and cosmic Satan—every Satan—mounted an all-out offensive. Even on such a field of attack, I did not collapse but alone broke all of it and laid a foundation of victory by which everything from the individual to the family, clan, people, nation, and world can be subjugated.
You are not persecuted by Satan as I am. And yet, can you not lay the road you must walk? Such a person deserves to perish.
Do you know, or not know, that if your beloved parents and siblings now do not believe in the Unification Church, they will truly go to hell? They will without fail go to hell. Elder brother, elder sister, younger sibling, mother, father, distant in-laws, and all—if they do not believe in the Unification Church, they truly go to hell. Are you certain of that? Are you certain or not? “We are certain.” You do not truly know it.
Hell is a place from which, once caught, one can never escape for eternity. And yet you do not actually feel that your mother and father and relatives are going to hell. You just think it will somehow work out, and that is that. But think that your beloved parents are truly going to hell.
If it were only a matter of entering an earthly prison, it would be a human feeling to weep and wail and do all sorts of things to pull them out. How much more, if sons and daughters bound by heavenly relationships knew that their parents and relatives, brothers and sisters, were all going into a prison from which they could never come out for eternity, would they do that?
You do not know anything yet. You do not know whether hell exists or not, and though there is a Principle, you do not know what it is. Do you truly know, or not? It is hazy, is it not? It will surely be hazy. But if you die, you will know. If you die, you will know at once, but by then it is already too late.
That is why parents who have died now appear spiritually and witness a great deal. Having opposed their sons who attended the Unification Church, they died and went to the spirit world and found themselves in great trouble. So there are many spirit people who appear spiritually and witness. Otherwise, they are caught in the third world. Do you understand? If one opposes one’s sons and daughters attending the Unification Church and prevents them from going, one is caught in the third world.
Therefore, offering all their devotion in the heavenly world, they receive a special pardon in the name of a good ancestor and appear before their children and teach them. It is not arranged for just anyone to appear. When they go to such a world and only then come to know that the Unification Church is a tremendous place, how appalling that is! You do not know such things, do you?
You may think that the Unification Church is just a place where people gather and disperse, but it is not so. If a line is drawn here, it is drawn eternally. If this gate is shut, there is no one who can open it ever again, and if it is opened, there is no one who can shut it. Because what is bound on earth must be loosed on earth; what you yourselves have bound you yourselves must loose. This is the problem. That is why I tell you that in witnessing, you must no longer go elsewhere to do it.
One must be filial to parents and loyal to the nation
Until now we have walked this road to find and establish children of faith and thus fulfill the responsibility of a parent, but now, after fulfilling that responsibility, we must return to our hometowns. And there we must take hold of your mothers and fathers and wail. You must love your mother and father and love your siblings.
If, knowing the will, you cannot witness to your parents and set them before the will, you cannot die with your eyes closed. It is just as parents cannot die with their eyes closed if they have not raised their beloved child into the good and fine son or daughter they desired. It becomes upside down. Seen from the standpoint of the world, you are the son or daughter, but from the standpoint of the will, you are in the position of a parent. Is it not so? That is why heaven and earth are turned over.
Seen from the position of restoration, because the son becomes the center, the father enters the position of the son. The father must bow before the son. Where in the world are there such words? That is why it is a turning over of heaven and earth. In the world there can be no such law. If a person who was in first place turns around while running, is he last or first? “He is last.” It is the same as that. If one turns around backward, heaven and earth are turned over.
Accordingly, looking at the world today, it is a time when parents cannot uphold the dignity of parents, a time when ancestors cannot uphold the dignity of ancestors, a time when the nation cannot uphold the dignity of the nation. Everything has turned around.
Who recognizes parents and recognizes children?
Everyone lives centering on himself. Everyone thinks it is enough to live centering on the physical body, but it is not so. Everyone must turn around, centering on God. Yet because they think they must turn around centering on the world, the world perishes.
You must take hold of the nation and wail. You must cry out and wail, “God, will You save this nation or kill it?” And having thus blocked national Satan, next you must take hold of your clan and wail. Must it not be so? Is it not so? Such a person is a filial child toward his parents and a loyal subject toward his nation. If one knows that one’s parents are incomplete and one’s nation is incomplete, one must become a filial child and must become a loyal subject to make up for that. Without becoming such a filial child and loyal subject, one cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.
So must you witness, or not? “We must witness.” To how many people must you witness? “To 120 people.” To do 120 people, allowing forty years, one must witness to three people a year. Even witnessing to exactly three people a year, it takes forty years. Then if forty years can be indemnified into ten years, would you do it taking forty years or taking ten years? “Ten years.” Let us indemnify forty years into ten years. To do so, one must witness to one person a month.
It is said that in ten years even the landscape changes, does it not?
Without offering all one’s devotion to God during those ten years, one cannot lift one’s face when going to the heavenly world. In the world there will be many people who offer devotion for more than ten years for the sake of their parents and many who offer devotion for more than ten years for the sake of their nation. So you too must have at least a unit of ten years.
If one witnesses to one person a month for ten years, that is 120 people. For these 120 people I must offer all my zeal and sincerity and devote the whole of my strength. That is the road that is for the world and the road that is for God.
Have you ever wailed through the night for the person you are witnessing to?
Then whom must one love with a heart of loving God?
Jesus said, “Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me.”
These words mean that if you would find God’s love, treat even one of the least of lives as precious.
Have you ever wailed and prayed through the night over the person you are witnessing to?
Have you wailed while grieving more than at the death of your mother or father, or grieving more than at the death of a beloved sweetheart? Have you, or have you not? If you have not, you must. You must wail through the night. If one could only save one life, nothing is too dear to give up. Money or clothes or a house is not the issue. One must go mad with loving people.
God has come through six thousand years from such a position, crossing over history again and again, forgetting the passing of time as though a thousand years were one day. You must know that this is God’s love.
Would it be good if your mother and father went to hell?
If anyone thinks that would be good, raise your hand. If some sons or daughters think, “Since they opposed me for attending the Unification Church until now, it serves them right to go to hell and suffer,” raise your hands. There will be no one who holds such a heart even toward a sibling.
Your enemies are the people who oppose the road of the will. Generally, who is the enemy of the Unification Church? It is the parents. That is why the Bible also says that the members of your household are your enemies. Even among household members, the person one loves most becomes the enemy. Is it so arranged, or not? For the words of the Bible to be fulfilled, it must be so.
Mother and father become enemies, a beloved friend or sibling becomes an enemy, and a beloved teacher becomes an enemy. Why is that? Because parents must be restored and siblings must be restored. If one is to restore the environment in which one is placed, restoring the most central person in that environment restores it quickly. Is it not so?
Yet Satan, to prevent restoration, uses every possible means and comes picking quarrels. But if one does not yield to these quarrels and fights to the end, even those parents come to submit naturally, saying, “Well, there is nothing to be done. I am beaten by you! The teacher too submits naturally, saying, “Well, that fellow is remarkable. I was wrong in the past.” The siblings who bitterly opposed also submit naturally, saying, “Oh dear, I was wrong.” From here the kingdom of heaven begins. That is, the foundation of a kingdom of heaven that one can govern and in which one can live is laid.
That is why, when one attends the Unification Church, one’s parents are bound to oppose. The person closest to you is the enemy. Are the established churches and the Unification Church close or enemies? Originally, as seen by God’s will, they ought to be the closest. Teacher Moon of the Unification Church is the youngest son. Is it not so? The established churches are the elder brothers to the Unification Church. From this position, because the youngest brother monopolizes the parents’ love, the elder brothers hate him and are trying to kill that youngest brother. Like Joseph…
You know the history of Joseph, do you not?
Whose son is Joseph? “He is the son of Jacob.” Which son of Jacob is Joseph? “The eleventh son.” Likewise, Joseph’s ten elder brothers were the same. Because Joseph monopolized his parents’ love, they were jealous and sold him as a slave to Egyptian merchants.
Love Cain
Does the Unification Church receive God’s love or not? “It receives it.” How much does it receive? It receives all of it, does it not? All the solid substance of love is hanging there. And the established churches are receiving the dregs left over after the Unification Church has eaten. Then the members of the Unification Church must share God’s love with the members of the established churches. But have you shared God’s love? You were told to share love, but you shared your fists and shared arrogance.
I am speaking about when you witness. Someone who only the other day was being led about meekly, saying, “Oh, Pastor, how are you?” — After hearing the words of the Unification Church Principle, he says, “That pastor doesn’t know anything,” and goes to the established church and says, “Pastor, do you know how the fall came about? Are you a pastor when you don’t even know that?” Is that killing a person or saving a person? Is that love? All of you play nothing but the butcher who slaughters people. They already hate us to death, and then you raise your heads arrogantly and swagger—how hateful that must be! Behaving in that way, you are bound to be hated.
There is Abel, is there not?
Do you like Abel, or do you like Cain? “Abel.” I like neither Cain nor Abel. Why? Because when Abel offered sacrifice together with Cain, his elder brother, even though God accepted only his offering and did not accept his elder brother’s offering, he should have treated his elder brother gently. He should have thought of his elder brother. And if he had wept and wailed, saying, “Oh, Father, why did You accept only my offering?” and had gone to his elder brother and said, “I do not want a God who accepted only my offering,” what would God have done? Without fail, He could not but have loved Cain.
Cain and Abel would have prepared their offerings equally and offered them before God. Cain would have offered grain and Abel a lamb, having offered devotion for a year. Offering devotion is good. But apart from the question of who offered more devotion, considering the question of the offering being accepted or not accepted, God accepted Abel’s offering because He was in a position where He could not but accept it.
Yet because God accepted only his offering, Abel thought it was because he was fine and God loved only him, and he would have boasted, “Elder brother, look. My offering was accepted.” Without fail, it was so. Had it not been so, why would the face of Cain, who was staying quiet, have turned as red as a beet? Would it have been so had Abel stayed quiet? Without fail, Abel went before Cain and taunted and needled him, saying, “What is an elder brother? My offering was accepted.” Abel must not have been arrogant. He should have been humble.
Members of the Unification Church must become Abel, must they not? “Yes.” Then have you become Abel, or not? I do not know whether you are becoming so or not, but to raise your head and behave arrogantly, saying, “What is a pastor of an established church? How did the fall come about? What, you say it came about by eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? Don’t you pastors also fail to know this issue apart from us?” — That is precisely the behavior of Abel, who was beaten to death. Doing that, the Unification Church perishes. Did you do so or not? I begged you not to do so, but you went outside and went about doing exactly that.
Did you witness in the 1960s to boast or to save? Think about it quietly. “To save.” Did you witness saving the members of the established churches? You witnessed to boast. This is the problem. You have caught many people.
Then why does witnessing not work now? When bands like the Abel, who was struck down and fell, go out and witness, what witnessing could there be? Would it work or not?
The reason one must love one’s enemy
Religious people must be gentle and humble. I tell you to be gentle and humble without beginning and without end. The position where one can become Abel is a position of gentleness and humility. Even if one loses everything of one’s own, even if everything has been taken away, to pray for blessings upon the other is the road Abel walks. Do you understand?
Looking at the Bible, it says to love your enemy, does it not? You must understand these words. Why must one love one’s enemy? For six thousand years the God of great power has gone along with Satan whenever Satan said to do this or that—for what reason has He done so? Even if you ask the pastors, not one of them knows. If God is a God of great power, He could finish it all off in one evening; why has He been like this for six thousand years? Is it not so? What on earth is the reason?
Jesus too came to this earth and, being bitten and driven about, died on the cross, and even though they were the very worst of enemies, he prayed, “Father, forgive their sins, for they do not know what they do”—and people do not know the meaning of that. Why on earth must it be so? This is the problem. Do you want to know this? “Yes.” What good would it do to know it when you could not take responsibility for it? Will you take responsibility? “Yes.”
If you listen to the words, it is simple. For instance, however sweet honey is said to be, one does not know the taste without eating it. The one who has eaten it knows, but however much you explain to one who has not eaten it, he does not know.
Why is God like that? This is not even set down in the Principle. But because the time has now come and I am able to cross over to such a position, I am teaching you. It is simple.
Originally there were God, Adam and Eve, and the archangel. Here Adam and Eve are children, and the archangel is a servant. Before making human beings, God loved the archangel. Until when was that standard of love to last? Until human beings were perfected and inherited the whole of God’s love. Until then, it was the archangel’s authority to be loved. Until then, the archangel had the authority to be loved. He was to receive love in God’s bosom and become a loyal subject who serves faithfully. And Adam and Eve were to be filial. Do you understand? “Yes.”
Then, until human beings were perfected and completely inherited God’s love, did God love the archangel or not? He could not, could He? Since He could not, does the archangel have a condition of being able to be loved before God, or not? He has one. So he can say that until he receives love, no other law can be taught to him. He did not receive the love he ought to have received. There is a saying that a vengeful ghost cannot even go where it ought to go, is there not? When a maiden dies, she becomes a maiden ghost. Likewise, the archangel too retains the han (한) of having never been loved.
It is not only God’s love he did not receive. Has the archangel ever received the love of human beings, who are God’s children? Has the archangel received the love of human beings or not? “He has not received it.”
If Adam is a son of God, he is God’s representative. Seen that way, because the archangel is God’s servant, he is a servant to human beings, who are God’s children, as well. When have human beings ever loved a servant? Have they, or have they not? They absolutely never have. Accordingly, without establishing at some time the condition that human beings loved Satan, one absolutely cannot pass through. Do you understand?
Then who among human beings is the true human being?
It is Jesus. Jesus is a son of God and the representative of Adam. Jesus must love to the same extent as the standard by which God loved the archangel as a servant. Otherwise, there is no liberation. Without doing so, one cannot inherit God’s love. Because God could not love the archangel and Adam could not love him either, unless a person appears who can love the archangel—that is, Satan—not as an enemy but as the archangel who is a loyal subject, this earth is not released. This earth cannot settle in place.
Why did Jesus, even while dying on the cross, say to love one’s enemy?
It was to find such a law. He was saying, “Though you are now an enemy, were you not originally the archangel? My loving you is not loving you in the position of an enemy but loving you in the position of the archangel who was originally unfallen, God’s servant, and one who could be your servant. That is why I forgive your sin and pray for blessings upon you. Do you understand? Everyone is ignorant of the fact that this is the center of Christianity.
Because such a matter hangs over us, until this is accomplished, one cannot govern Satan at will. So one cannot strike him. You must know that because no one has appeared who can resolve this, this evil world has been prolonged for six thousand years. Do you understand?
In accomplishing God’s Providence (섭리), the position of Adam is Abel, and the position of the archangel is Cain. That is why, to become sons and daughters of God and return to the heavenly world, one must establish the condition of having absolutely loved Cain as Abel. Without doing so, one cannot enter the heavenly world. Do you understand? This is a formula. Until today, countless religions have not known this matter.
The general teaching of all religions
Why do all religions tell people to sacrifice and serve and to give and give again?
It is because there remains a twist of human relationships by which one must cross over, having established the condition of having loved worldwide Cain from the position of a worldwide Abel, with the world at stake, even though the archangel fell from his position and became Satan. You must know that religious people have been sacrificed because a road remains by which this must be resolved.
Therefore, the conclusion comes out that one cannot go to the kingdom of heaven alone. One can go only by subjugating Satan. And in subjugating Satan, it must not be done by force but by love. Thus, unless one stands in a position where one can make Satan say, “You loved me more than I loved you,” one cannot ascend. Because this is the formula.
It is the same for Teacher Moon of the Unification Church. I have countless enemies. Judging by my original character, I would have cut them all down with a single stroke of the sword. See how quick my speech is. I cannot bear injustice.
Seeing what is not right, I cannot bear it. Though I have such a nature that can rise to the top, centering on this Principle, I possess an inner self-restraint that can enter the very bottom and, passing from extreme to extreme, can overcome. Without that, one cannot walk this road.
That is why, although I have countless enemies, I proclaimed that once we pass 1969, I forgive them all. You have heard those words, have you not? It is not only words; I will actually love my enemies. To cross over the standard of the individual Abel, one must love the individual Cain. Next, to cross over the standard of the family-level Abel, one must love the family-level Cain. Only then does one cross over. And thus the clan sets out.
The clan-level Abel must love the clan-level Cain. The Unification Church is a new Abel-type clan. The established churches are the Cain-type clan. Therefore, in our denominational position, we must stand for the established churches. We must not strike them and go on, but must take them along. That is why I scrape together all the money I have and do not have for the established churches and carry on this business to save them.
Someone like Elder Park, too, is in the position of our enemy. But when he was put into Seodaemun Prison, I made great efforts and got him out. They do not know such facts. But it must be done that way. Without doing so, one cannot enter Abel’s position. Do you understand?
Looking at such things centering on Korea, because there had to be an Abel nation and a Cain nation, it was divided into north and south along the thirty-eighth parallel. Here, unless North Korea, which is the Cain nation, submits to South Korea, which is the Abel nation, world peace will not come. So look. Isn't the nation split in two and the land split in two? The world too, seen broadly, is split into the democratic world and the communist world. The place where this divided democratic world and communist world make contact is Korea. Therefore, the unification of Korea will be one method for the unification of the world. The movement to present this method is the Unification Church movement. If I were to talk this way, there would be no end to it.
The conditions for becoming Abel
All of you are divided in body and mind, and wife and husband are divided, and family and family are divided, and relatives and relatives are divided. In villages too, the village where the Kim clan lives and the village where the Park clan lives turn their backs on each other and snarl. Is it not so? Then which of those two villages will flourish? The Abel-type village, the village that yields and sacrifices, flourishes. The Cain-type village is absorbed into that village. It naturally submits and bows its head. This secret method of making one submit naturally is God’s strategy.
Why is that? Because in the Garden of Eden God could not love the archangel, and human beings could not love the archangel. Adam was in a position of having to inherit, in place of his parent, the standard by which the parent loved, but because he could not, the standard by which Adam did not love the archangel remains. Until the archangel receives that love, he brings out conditions and fights.
That is why Jesus, too, though he said that the members of one’s own household are one’s enemies, did not say to take revenge on the enemy. He said to love that enemy. This is the first thought that appeared in the history of humankind. Centering on such a thought of Jesus and centering on Christianity, a worldwide foundation was laid. From the Abel-type individual, it formed the family, clan, and people and laid a worldwide foundation, at least spiritually, and that is the democratic world.
Christianity has developed until today by cutting its flesh and shedding blood. How is it? Did it develop by shedding blood or by making others shed blood? “It developed by shedding blood.” This is the traditional thought of Christianity. Why must it be so? It is because the position in which God and human beings must love the archangel has still not been passed through. That is why for six thousand years God could not but do as Satan accused and as Satan proposed. Therefore, this must be resolved.
Then are members of the Unification Church Abel or Cain? “Abel.” To become Abel, there are conditions. What is the first? One must advance to the position of a son who can inherit God’s love. Is it not so? What did I say the first is? One must receive God’s love. What is the second? There must be a Cain. Without Cain, Abel cannot come forth! Is that right or not? “It is right.” What did I say the first is? “God’s love.”
Do you receive God’s love?
Do you receive it or not? God’s love is a worldwide love that could not be exchanged even for the world. Have you received such love? I mean, have you received the love of which it is said, “This is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh”?
To become Abel, one must first inherit God’s love. If one inherits God’s love, one inherits the world, does one not? “Yes.” So, have you become that? Yet Jesus did this. But though he inherited the kingdom of Heaven, he did not inherit the world. Then who inherited the world? Cain inherited it. Therefore, the world is Cain’s nation. That is why Abel, after inheriting the kingdom of Heaven, must receive a receipt guaranteed by the world’s Cain. To go to the kingdom of heaven, one must go having received Satan’s receipt.
One must be able to hand over the person one loves and still bless
Fallen human beings are caught on these two principles. Because these principles have not been resolved, the six thousand years of history until now have been repeated, one link after another. But now we have come to know.
In the Bible there are the words,
“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).
Since we have come to know, we must love even if we have to grit our teeth. To what extent must we love? We must love even Cain, who is the enemy.
Satan is God’s enemy. What kind of enemy? He is the adulterer (간부, 姦夫) of love.
What is a ganbu?
Is it an officer (간부, 幹部) of the Unification Church association? He is the adulterer who trampled God’s love. He is a thief who came in while Mother and Father were sleeping, beat the father to death, and violated the mother. Do you understand?
What is Satan?
He is the enemy of love who violated Eve, God’s beloved Eve, God’s substantial object. That is, he is the adulterer. Facing such an adulterer, does God confer with him or not? He confers with him.
One must have a heart that can hand over the person one loves to such an adulterer and bless him as well. To love one’s enemy, forgiving him is not enough. Would Satan be grateful with only that much? One must even have a heart that can hand over the person one loves beyond compare to the enemy and still bless him. This is the final crest. And yet you say you go to the kingdom of heaven by faith?
What the Unification Church presents today is of a higher dimension than the established churches. In the Bible, it says to pray for one’s enemy, but the Unification Church, to resolve this problem, tells you to hand over even your beloved sweetheart to the enemy and bless them. The dimension is different. That is the last hill. That is why this person called Teacher Moon of the Unification Church has been eating his heart out until now. How many enemies must I have! Yet I do not consider them to be enemies.
Then where did the overlap occur? Where did they become God’s enemies?
They overlapped, centering on sons and daughters. Next, they overlapped, centering on friends. Is it not so? This must be restored. In restoring this, it must be restored in the family. Why? Because he caused the fall of the betrothed Adam and Eve—that is, the Adam and Eve who were to form a family. That is why the words that the members of your household are your enemies are words that hold according to heavenly law.
Until now, humankind could not call parents “parents.” Why? Because we are heirs who have inherited a false lineage. Because we have inherited a lineage that is not right before Heaven, we cannot step forward as parents. It is the same with siblings. But what is fortunate is that today the Unification Church has come forth, and by the arising of a Cain group and an Abel group, a road has arisen by which both evil people and good people can be saved.
Seen this way, to become Abel, one must first receive God’s love, and second there must be a Cain. Then do you have a Cain? “The established churches.” The established churches are the clan-level Cain. They are an organization, are they not? They number more than several hundred, do they not? Is that Cain? Considering the individual, the body is Cain and the mind is Abel.
Accordingly, the mind must stand for the body. A person who takes hold of the body and wails and pities it, saying how pitiful it is that it does not even know that it is walking a road of eternal ruin—such a person does not perish.
Next arises the question of which is Cain and which is Abel between man and woman. Abel is the one who is in the position closer, centering on God’s love and will. Only by loving Cain is Abel’s position determined. It becomes so. Abel’s position is determined by centering on the principle that Adam, who was in the position of a son, must indemnify his failure to love the archangel.
The time when the Abel family, clan, and nation must be determined
Once Abel’s position is thus determined on the individual level, next the Abel family must be determined. To become an Abel family, a Cain family must be established. Only then is the Abel family determined. That is why in the Unification Church one rises to the position of an Abel family only after establishing children of faith and creating an outward environment in which they can receive the Blessing. Is it so arranged, or not? I am carrying out that business. It is not being done by rough guesswork but according to the principle and the fundamental rule. That is why the Unification Church will not perish. The formula is so arranged.
Then what kind of age is the decade of the 1970s?
It is a time of gathering centering on the family. The 1960s were a time of indemnifying by the individual, but now it is a time of identifying as the family. It is a time when the family-level Abel must be established. And so, since we are trying to make a clan-level Abel realm centering on the family-level Abel, I tell you to love the established churches, which are in the family-level Cain realm.
That is why I spend a great deal of money on the established churches without anyone knowing. Even at the cost of not feeding the most precious things to my wife and children, even at the cost of not feeding the members of the Unification Church and making them suffer, we must love them. Because restoration cannot take place without establishing the condition of having given them everything I love most, even my life, I have been carrying on this business. Do you understand? That is why I gathered many religions together and formed a religious council.
Next, we must stand for the nation. Our nation holds anti-communism as the first principle of national policy. So, centering on that standard, we must be able to stand at the head in standing for the nation and say, “Follow our example.” Let us become the fence of the nation. Let us prevent in advance the trials that will come upon this nation.
When the clan-level Abel leads the clan-level Cain, and they become one, from here a people-level Abel appears. When a people-level Abel appears, there must be a people-level Cain, and what is that? It is not Christianity. It is the many religious bodies.
Accordingly, what must be done to gather these many religious bodies into one? One must stand in a position of having loved more than any religion. One must love from a position of being able to make everything most precious to oneself an offering and give it.
If one loves in that way, they become one by Heaven’s mandate. They are drawn in, and they submit. When they submit and become one, that becomes a people-level foundation. Originally, Jesus should have become one with Judaism, which was in the Abel position, and with the nation (government) of Israel, which was in the Cain position. Likewise, we too must become one with Christianity and with the government. And thus, we must make the Republic of Korea an Abel nation.
To become an Abel nation, there must without fail be a Cain nation, must there not? That is why the fact that it is divided into South Korea and North Korea is God’s love. Without Cain, Abel cannot find the nation. That is why it is divided north and south. Here, South Korea must subjugate North Korea.
Evil spirits, if Abel’s strength is weak, will without fail invade. Yet what is fortunate is that the Cain-Abel Providence of Restoration is not being carried out between peoples of different countries, but that we have been enabled to establish the Cain-Abel standard and carry out restoration as one people with the same cultural background and content of life. This is God’s love.
And so, if an Abel nation appears, there must be a Cain nation, must there not? From this point, because finding the nation is one purpose, when we rise to the standard of the nation, unification comes. When that happens, the age of Cain-Abel sacrifice passes away.
Thus, once the vertical standard is established, the horizontal standard must be established. The purpose of restoration is world restoration, is it not? “Yes.” So once one subject-like standard for world restoration is established, it moves over to the horizontal standard. Then it is not a relationship of Cain and Abel but unfolds as the Adam type and the Eve type. Why? Because the archangel has been loved.
Then did Adam love Eve? He could not, could he?
Adam could not love Eve. But because now an age has come in which the Eve nation can be loved, the Adam nation must love the Eve nation. Nations loving one another is loving the individual, family, clan, people, and nation all together. Because only after loving the archangel can one love Eve, the Unification Church is now carrying out a strategy of establishing Japan as the Eve nation, centering on the Republic of Korea.
Then which nation is the archangel nation?
Just as there is an Eve nation, there must be an archangel nation, must there not? So only by setting the archangel in a horizontal position, an equal position, and making them one does Satan submit; and only by that does one at last escape the condition of accusation. To establish China as such an archangel-type nation and carry out restoration is Heaven’s tactic. You do not know such things, do you?
Subjugate Cain naturally through love
You must subjugate Cain step by step and become heirs who can receive God’s love. The mind must be united before God’s love. And so, by loving the body, one must make the body submit naturally. One must establish the standard according to the principle of having truly loved the body and stand in a subject-like position.
You want to be loved, do you not?
That is why I bring the members of the Unification Church and make them suffer. To save the established churches, the members of the Unification Church must go without eating and without clothing and without sleep and suffer. Whom must Abel love more? Whom must the members of the Unification Church love more?
Whom did I say Abel must love? “Cain.” Abel must love Cain. He must make him submit naturally through love. He must stand in a position of loving them with tears of blood. One must give love higher than anyone else’s. Otherwise, one cannot subjugate them, so restoration does not take place. We must do so for the established churches, for the Republic of Korea, and for North Korea. That is why I am now praying for North Korea.
I have a firm view according to the Principle. Everything I do, I do because there is a basis for it. Yet religious people today know nothing. So they may say, “Why has the God of great power been going on like this so pitifully for six thousand years…. What kind of God is that? But that is because the past was a state in which no worldwide representative had appeared who could restore the world according to the principle of restoration in spirit and body together. In such a position, it could not but be prolonged not for six thousand years but for sixty thousand, six hundred thousand, six hundred million years. God has dragged along such a destiny until now.
Seeing such things, you must know what a great blessing it is that you have come to the Unification Church and have been able to know such things. Do you even know such things? Even if one shows you a diamond, you see it as nothing but a ring. Human beings do not know the fact that all the principles of society and the factors of historical development originate entirely here. Do you understand? “Yes.”
Must you become Abel, or not? “We must become Abel.” Then what must one do to become a son of Teacher Moon of the Unification Church? Must there be a Cain, or not? “There must be.” That is why three children of faith are necessary. Next, three families are necessary, and three great groups are necessary.
The 36 Families are twelve families gathered three times, are they not?
Everything proceeds that way. Because we thus possessed the authority of having subjugated three clans, on earth we could meet a new, level age of good fortune. Because we entered within the realm of such an age, it could be expanded to 120 Families. And so, passing through 70 Families to 120 Families… it could be applied horizontally without limit.
The approaching age of the Unification Church
Now the time has come much closer to the age of the Unification Church. For example, we are arranging with the Gyeonggi Province police bureau a plan to send the intelligence division officers of the Suwon police station to the Sutaek-ri training center for training. I do not know whether detectives of the intelligence section are here, but until now how those intelligence-section detectives ground their teeth and fretted, unable to devour us! Do we ask them for food or ask them for clothes? They hate us for nothing, though we are not their enemies. If I say I am going to Busan, they telephone Busan that Teacher Moon of the Unification Church is going to Busan. They simply cannot trust us and follow us about.
Yet the other day they said it will not do without the Unification Church. Now the guest and the host have changed places. Is that good or bad? But did this come about by always fighting with them? Because of what did it come about? It came about because of love. Before love, one submits naturally.
The other day too, so-called notables kept asking to meet me, but I did not meet them. If they want to meet me, let them come and find me. In return, I will share with them the love of Heaven that they do not possess. I meet people when I need to, not because they say they need to. I am absolutely not used by them. Some newspaper company presidents too say, “Let me meet Teacher Moon of the Unification Church once,” but why should I meet him when he asks to meet because he needs it? I meet only when I need to. I will not become the frontman of such merchants. Such a cheap thing will not do.
That is why there are many people who have not seen Teacher Moon of the Unification Church. Among you, some ignorant youngsters used to run about in the streets, and having come here and heard everything I say, you may think, “Aha, so that is the person called Teacher Moon of the Unification Church,” but when I must take a high posture, I take it. This is not arrogance. I do so for their sake. Because there is a heavenly law by which God’s dignity and authority must be established. Do you understand?
To find Abel's parents
Among your parents, who are the Cain parents? Are there Cain's parents, or not?
Without Cain's parents, can you restore Abel's parents? Answer. “There are none.” To restore Abel's parents, Cain's parents must be restored. Then must you be better than the Cain parents, or worse? Because you must be better than the Cain parents, the Cain parents strike you. The Cain parents make you kneel and say all sorts of things, such as, “You wretch, how can you hurt your parents’ hearts like this?” I tell you to listen to all of it. You must be better than your parents. There have been many bands like that.
There were many people who abandoned even their homes and wrapped up their bundles and ran away, were there not? Let those who have run away raise their hands. Let those with such a record raise their hands. There will be many here as well. It will be everyone who thought they could not live like that and must run away. They could not go on living even with their husbands. So they came out as the only recourse. Members of the Unification Church know such a heart, do they not? Seeing the ladies and grandmothers here laughing, it seems we understand one another. The people of the world do not know that.
This is not rough guesswork but according to the Principle. Because it is arranged exactly so, this is without fail scientific. What is being scientific? If what has been worked out centering on a hypothesis fits reality, it is scientific. Have you seen science? Have you seen atomic energy? Who has seen a neutron? Because they all experiment and it fits, they call it scientific. When a hypothesis fits, it is called scientific. Is it not so? Is what I am saying a hypothesis? It is truth. So it is without fail the science of sciences.
Have you found Abel's parents or not? “We have found them.” If so, as Abel, you must become a filial child beyond the filial children of the world. You must become a filial child better than any filial child of the Cain world. Among all the filial children who have existed since heaven and earth came into being, you must become the king. That is, you must become the king of filial children. And you must be able to say, “Among loyal subjects, the king of loyal subjects is I.”
If sons all become filial children before their parents and loyal subjects before their nation, are they loved before Heaven or not? They are loved. Then who are the objects that are loved? Cain and Abel. When Cain and Abel thus stand rightly, Abel's parents are found for them. Do you understand?
If you come to receive God’s true love, your family is automatically restored. That it has not been so and that the family has until now gone back and forth in complication is because content remains that must be indemnified. Once one is completely loved and steps forward, they submit. Why? Because one has been loved by the heavenly parent. And one stands not within a realm like that in which the fall occurred in the Garden of Eden, but within an unfallen realm. Because you stand within an unfallen realm and your physical parents are in the position of the archangel within the fallen realm, they must submit.
The mission of Unification believers
Because you have not believed such things until now, you have been driven into corners. Because there remains a course of indemnity you yourself must walk, you receive opposition and all such things. If I speak more deeply, you will not understand.
Do you have Abel parents and Abel siblings?
Do you have an Abel individual, an Abel family, an Abel clan, an Abel people, an Abel nation, or an Abel world? “We do not.” On the other hand, is there a Cain individual, a Cain family, a Cain clan, a Cain people, a Cain nation, a Cain world, or not? “There is.” Then today, which is larger, the Abel nation or the Cain nation? “The Cain nation is larger.” Is there an Abel nation? Have you found an Abel world? We have not found it. You must know that. How do we unfold the mission of Abel, who has received Heaven’s mandate to found an Abel world while facing a Cain world? This is the mission of Unification believers.
Therefore, Unification believers must go beyond the nation to the world. I am now striving infinitely for world missions without your knowing it. Do you understand what I mean? Why is that? It is in order not to make the spirits (靈神) of unification, the spirits who will follow hereafter, suffer.
Though the Unification Church has not yet crossed the standard of the nation, it has been laying a national footing and laying a worldwide footing and laying a religious footing. That is why in the religious society of Korea today there is nothing in which the Unification Church is not taking part and moving. Seen that way, it is without error. When some activity is said to take place, it is without fail moving within my plan.
I am thus waging a bloody battle, centering on clan, people, nation, and world, to make a foundation of a Cain who can stand for Heaven rather than a Cain who opposes Heaven. And yet you only sleep. Then you will be struck by lightning and perish. You are all ghosts who say you are for me while using me up. Is it so or not? You must cooperate with me and assist me and go when told to go and come when told to come. You are people who cannot help but do so.
That is why this time, after I bless the 700 Couples, I will mobilize all the wives. Those wives promised me that they would be mobilized for three years. Those who were engaged this time, did you promise or not? Answer clearly. Did you, or did you not? “We did.” Being mobilized for three years is a formula. That does not mean I am selling those wives off.
Why must it be so?
It is to organize an Abel clan and thereby make an Abel people and an Abel nation. Without doing so, everything perishes. A man cannot go forward without putting a woman at the head. That is why religion until now has been believed mostly by women and has developed through the devotion of women. Men have all sponged off them. It is the same in the Unification Church now. Because the men are all muddling along, they are middling sorts who can do neither this nor that. Half the men go about with a thief’s intent wrapped up in their bundles.
But women are not like that. Because I have thus taken the women’s side, I have been abused until now. The women like me desperately…. That does not mean in a bad sense; they truly like me. Do you truly like me? “Yes.” Even if their husbands are displeased, there is nothing to be done. Now, since the world knows it is all like that, they are bound to listen absolutely to my words. One must walk a road on which one can die if told to die for the nation.
That does not mean I am a teacher who is only for myself. Absolutely not. I take responsibility for the matter of your eternal life. I am different from any men of the world. Even so, all sorts of rumors have spread in the world. But even if rumors spread, it is all right. If the women of the Unification Church do not listen to what I say, I even slap their cheeks. And I say everything that their husbands cannot say. Seeing such things, people may misunderstand and wonder, “How close must they be to act like that?” But it is all right if they misunderstand.
So, women of the Unification Church, will you listen to my words or not? “We will listen.” Looking at all your eyes, you are thinking only of your bridegrooms.
Know clearly what kind of church the Unification Church is
There is an interesting story. Long ago, when I finished my studies in Tokyo, Japan, and was returning, I prayed that we would meet again in twenty-one years and came across it. Twenty-one years later, I went to Japan again, but at that time even the emperor of Japan was my enemy.
So, to strike down Japan, I engaged in an underground movement, and there were times when I joined ranks with the communists and carried out joint operations. I did all sorts of things. Detectives were always following at my tail. When I was to come out to Korea, they telephoned Korea in advance to say that so-and-so is now going to such-and-such a place in Korea. And so, when I came out of the ticket gate at the station, people I did not want came and asked whether I had just arrived. Such things I have gone through until now.
How can a person who cannot love his nation love Heaven?
Because I had such thoughts, I did all sorts of things, even playing the beggar. Our comrades went to Kanto and, to cross the border, carried on the business of hanging upside down from a freight train and riding for more than fifteen hours.
The members of the Unification Church today must know what sort of background the history of the Unification Church has. You must not just play about in that trifling patch of rags you have been living and eating in and set out from there and swallow it up, but you must fundamentally remake it.
Seen from this point, what is to be thanked for before God is that there is a Cain-type world, that there is a Cain-type nation, that there is a Cain-type organization, that there is a Cain-type family, and that there is a Cain-type individual. This is what is to be thanked for. Is it not so? Today the world of the twentieth century is one in which this is laid out clearly at a glance as a level realm, from the world down to the individual.
The world is now divided into democratic and communist and confronting each other, and every sovereign nation is divided inwardly and outwardly into opposition party and ruling party. Furthermore, within the opposition party there are the mainstream and the non-mainstream, and likewise in the ruling party there are the mainstream and the non-mainstream. Everything is furnished in the form of Cain and Abel. Then is this to make them perish or to make them prosper?
This must, without fail, be made one. That is why the Unification Church has been doing that work. Must we make them become one, or not? Have you become one, or not? Since you have not, we must make it so, even by beating you. They are bound to ask us to make it so without fail. They will do it even if it takes offering a thousand years of sacrifices. If I teach it all, they will do so. Because they do not know anything, they become simpletons and are disgraced and let things fizzle out. It would be good if I taught you that, would it not? You are greedier than thieves, but even for a thief, I will teach him only after I have built a wall and made it so that he has nowhere to go. Such a time will come.
The Principle of the Unification Church will hereafter become a standard that can move world history even in the academic sphere. Even in schools, it will become impossible not to study our Unification Principle. And yet wretched bands like you have come…. You ought to know what kind of place the Unification Church is. You ought to know whether it is a kindergarten or a university. It is just like putting a kindergartner into a graduate school where he still knows only at the kindergarten level. So it is appalling.
When I think of it, it is appalling that I have brought together senseless people like you and am speaking loudly as the teacher of the Unification Church. Even bringing in doctors of learning would not be satisfying. With them, I would set them to work at once. But this is nothing but a gathering of leftovers who were begging somewhere….
It would be good if you at least knew how to move along amicably when I presented a direction, but in your state you cannot even do that…. You will be struck by lightning. Will you be struck by lightning or not?
If you are struck by lightning, you are in great trouble. I taught you the content of being a child, of True Parents and all that, yet that has rather become a chronic ailment. Because he is a crippled son, shall I do away with him? Shall I kill him? Then you ought to have a heart that says, since our parent is pitiful, before the parent suffers, I will take on the suffering and will instead perform even a crane dance like a cripple dancing—and you say you cannot even do that? In that state, you cannot even get into a manure bucket.
You must know such things and walk the road you must walk. I have walked through forty years of my life suffering centering on such matters, and I am still fighting over this matter, staking my whole life. I am waging a fierce struggle. You may be sleeping, but the Unification Church is developing. There is a machine called a rock drill that bores holes in a mine, is there not? It is the same as that.
You are sleeping, but that work is being done. One bores a hole and puts dynamite into it. This time too, the building of the Sutaek-ri training center was coached by me. No one even dreamed of it, and it was built within a month. Now the fuse has been attached, and if I only set fire to it, it is bound to explode.
Twenty million won ran away over that matter, but what problem is twenty million won? If one is to bring in several hundred million at once, one can blow away about twenty million won. Is it not so? Such is the road a man walks. A man must have the boldness to let flow away instantly, with one laugh, the property gathered by effort over several thousand years. But I have not carried out any strategy that runs at a loss. Look—see how I am made. Look at my eyes. Is there anything careless about them?
That is why you who follow Teacher Moon of the Unification Church are happy people. However one looks at it, you are happy people. Though you are abused a little and are shabby, you are happy. When the spring wind blows, mountain fires break out too. That such side effects unfold is by no means a bad thing. If one walks the normal course, summer soon comes.
However good spring is said to be, if it ends with spring, it perishes. Is it not so? When spring passes, summer must come. Likewise, if summer too simply ends as summer, it perishes. If autumn too simply ends as autumn, it perishes. After summer comes autumn, and after autumn winter must come. Only by passing through the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter can all the elements furnished with four-directional completeness be combined and a complete form be furnished.
Because Koreans have lived through all four seasons, even if they go and live in the Arctic, they will not freeze to death. It is so in the Antarctic too, and wherever they go in the world. Thus, Korea’s climate is the specimen of the world’s climate. So even if you live wrapped in a straw mat, you must be thankful that you were born in Korea. You understand, do you not?
The mission of the Korean people and the Unification Church
The Korean people are called the Baedal people, are they not? What are the Baedal people? There is the word baedalbu (deliveryman), is there not?
In the word Baedal people, the character dal (達) is the dal meaning “to reach,” is it not? “Yes.” What does a deliveryman do? He is a courier who conveys news.
So these people are couriers who convey news to the world. The name is truly well made. All this is according to the Principle. And they are also called the white-clad people, are they not? White (白) symbolizes peace, does it not? The color that anyone can take as a standard, by night or by day, is white. Red or yellow cannot be taken as a marker at night. The only thing that can be taken as a marker at night is white. That is why the white-clad people can become the standard of the world.
Then what ideology is the Unification Church?
It is standard-ism. It is an ideology of playing the deliveryman. A deliveryman delivering what? A deliveryman delivering God’s love. Will all the people of the world eagerly await someone bringing the bundle of God’s love, or not? “They will eagerly await it.” So I tell you all to play the deliveryman. The deliveryman of love goes to the kingdom of heaven.
God’s heart is the same as the heart of a parent eagerly awaiting a son who has gone far away. That heart of eager waiting is doubled (倍加) the farther the distance of separation and the rougher the road. The heart of a wife who loves her husband, or of a husband who loves his wife, and the affection that longs for a sibling, become more earnest the farther the distance and the more the coming and going is cut off.
That is why the Unification Church must plant its flag anywhere, even in the remotest mountain village, and distribute the gift of love together with new news. That is the road the Unification Church walks. Is that not splendid? The Unification Church must become a lighthouse that keeps ships from striking reefs on a desolate sea where raging waves surge in. It must become a church that presents a new direction to a fallen world.
Such are the Baedal people. But from now on the Baedal people must be called the deliveryman people. Seen this way, a member of the Suwon Unification Church is a deliveryman of the Suwon Unification Church. So I tell you to distribute. To distribute, one must witness.
Now then, will you witness it or not? “We will witness.”
If you do not witness, you perish. If you want to perish, you need not witness. A person who has not found Cain has no place to stand. Do you understand? However much one cries out about God’s love, without Cain, one cannot go to the kingdom of heaven.
The kingdom of heaven must be one’s own kingdom of heaven
One absolutely cannot go to the kingdom of heaven alone. One goes only having furnished two. That is why one must furnish a husband and wife and siblings and go having restored the Four Position Foundation. Because Teacher Moon of the Unification Church has thus discovered and proclaimed all the necessary things, among young men there are many who hate Teacher Moon. When you think about it, he attached all the plausible things and sold them off. Even so, I am not a religious swindler.
Seen from this point, for you to live, must you witness, or not? “We must witness.” Whose kingdom of heaven is the kingdom of heaven? Is it the kingdom of heaven of Teacher Moon of the Unification Church?
If the kingdom of heaven were Teacher Moon’s kingdom of heaven, would you go and live in a kingdom of heaven borrowed from me? Having lived one day and said, “Teacher, thank you. Today I lived this much. If tomorrow I said it would not do, would you say, “Save me, save me”? Think about it. Is the kingdom of heaven my kingdom of heaven? Must it become my kingdom of heaven?
Whose kingdom of heaven must it become?
It must become precisely one’s own kingdom of heaven. If there are two hundred people here with different surnames, it must become the kingdom of heaven of all two hundred.
To become so, one must make one’s own kingdom of heaven. To make that kingdom of heaven, at times one must even go to prison. If you cannot do it, then die. If one simply dies in this state, it would be better not to see one another when one goes to that world hereafter. In that world too you would follow me about saying, “Oh, Teacher, I was wrong,” and how could I bear to watch that sight? Being a person of much feeling myself, I could not bear to see it. So in order not to see such a sight, I must drive you out, even by beating you before you die. This is love. Do you understand what I mean? Not doing it will not do.
Though God loves me, He treats me pitilessly. Why? Because the principle is so. To make me walk the road of setting out to find worldwide Cain, He must drive me to a worldwide crest. Because without that worldwide Cain cannot be broken through, I came to know that great is the love of the God who drove me mercilessly into such a position. Do you understand? To make me advance into such a position, to make me great, He had me do everything doable and undoable. He had me taste all the bitter and sweet tastes of life.
That is why now, when someone comes and hems and haws, I know from a mere glance what he is going to say. From such a position I am, inwardly and outwardly, a closer friend to you than any friend. Because I have a relationship with God, I stand at the central position of a high and in-depth relationship of love. That is why you need me. Even when you die, you are bound to need me. Is it so or not? Find out whether it is a lie or the truth.
If you die, within fifteen minutes you will know it all. “But one has to be able to come back after dying.” It would be a great problem if the dead could come back again.
If everyone tried it, would I not be unnecessary? If, after dying, one cannot but believe naturally, would I still be necessary?
The road of restoration cannot be walked without loving one’s enemy
Now I am necessary. I am necessary until you die. That is why, however much the people of the world study the Unification Church, they do not know it. The intelligence bureau and the public security department and such places have studied our Unification Church until now, but they say they cannot understand it. They call it a third line. What is that…? They cannot understand…. That is something no one can know, but we can know. That is why life is worth living for us.
However desperately your mother and father oppose, tell them to die if they will die and stop if they will stop. Let the parents shout as loudly as they will; even if the mother went mad this instant, it is not arranged for you to say you will not believe in the Unification Church. Because you have appraised it all and are guessing how many pounds it weighs, you do not budge. That is why I have been much abused by the parents of the world for having made their sons and daughters that way.
The Japanese know that hereafter, in about ten years, organizations such as the Unification Church’s Principle Research Association or the Victory Over Communism Association will completely take hold of Japan. It will not even take ten years. The people of our country make an outcry that Japan drained the blood and sweat of our people for thirty-six years, but at that time we will receive back several hundredfold, several thousandfold, what was taken. Who will receive it back? I will receive it back. Do you approve or disapprove? “We approve.”
Now, sitting still, whatever order I give, the members in Japan are arranged to obey. Even if I give an order to smash the communists, they do it. Splendid, is it not? This is the Unification Church. The members of the Unification Church in America too—if only a directive is issued, the communists are no problem. Is it so or not? “It is so.” That is why I now have nothing in this world to envy.
Let those who could die together with me when I say, “Let us die,” raise their hands. Seeing that everyone raises their hands, this education has been done well. Whom do you take after in this? The world does not know such things. It is the same with me. You must know that for me to be able to be so, I made a resolve a hundred times, a thousand times, ten thousand times, several million times at the crest of death, saying that where beans are planted, beans come up, and where red beans are planted, red beans come up, and that a tower built with devotion does not fall. You understand, do you not?
For the sake of the will of public righteousness, some die, and some survive; it is all like that. Or, in a time of national difficulty, there are people who vanish like dew for the sake of the nation. I am a person who thinks seriously about how I will go for the sake of God’s will and about when I will accomplish all of God’s will on this earth and go. I am a person who has already transcended the problem of death. Do you understand? Because it would be a han if I died without shaking heaven and earth and commanding all the people of the world; I have endured until now and been careful of my body.
For those who do not fear dying, where is there anything fearful? When they know that if they die, a second road opens, and know without fail where they will go if they die, would they be afraid? Will you walk the road of dying or the road of not dying? “We will walk the road of not dying.”
Then what road must you walk to walk the road of not dying?
You must walk the road of Cain and Abel. You must know this clearly. The road of Cain and Abel is everywhere. Is it not so? Because the road of restoration is a road of han that cannot be walked without loving one’s enemy, God has until now been branded as pitiful. And Teacher Moon of the Unification Church too, who, as such a son of God, inherits that responsibility and that will, is in fact pitiful when seen from the standpoint of the world.
But it is not because I am inferior that I have been walking this road until now. In my high school days, I was first in the whole school, even in physical strength. In track and field or anything, I was never out of the rankings. In everything, I was the winner. I have an aptitude for anything. Why has such a man been doing this work until now while being abused? It is because I came to know the strong will and came to know the pitiful God. I came to know that God does have nothing to do with me, but that He is my Father and the original absolute center with whom I must form a relationship. As long as He grieves, I cannot be joyful. And as long as He cannot rest, I cannot rest. That is why I have continued this weary life until now. Do you understand? If you know such a will and yet close your eyes and sleep comfortably, you will be punished.
Work diligently to lay the foundation of the kingdom of heaven
Now you must establish the kingdom of heaven. Because I have laid all the foundation, you have no enemies. If there are any, there are none but your parents and relatives.
So now there is no need to go to every corner of the three thousand ri to witness. I tell you to take hold of your parents and pray and offer devotion. If you offer only one-third or two-thirds of the devotion you offered outside, your parents will be restored quickly. Until now, going out to witness, you have risen at dawn and done things like cleaning the village and cleaning the outhouses, have you not? In your village, I tell you to offer only half the devotion you offered in other places of worship.
Because you have furnished such an environment of freedom, a time has come when you can restore, not in forty years but within four years, this road I laid across forty years of my life. No—not four years, but you must be able to do it within four months.
If you cannot do this work, though you can, do you think you will be able to lift your face when you go to the heavenly world? Not a chance. Because you have met a free environment in which you can do so—because you have met an age like a calf in springtime that frolics freely in a green field and eats at will whatever grass it wants—if you miss this time, you will become wretched.
You know the story of the ant and the grasshopper, do you not? What became of this grasshopper in the end?
Likewise, if you are not diligent, you will end up in the grasshopper’s plight.
Therefore, you must be diligent. I do not rest. Even when I go into the mountains alone, I do not rest. Offering all my devotion, I go my road without ceasing. Night or day, the moment I open my eyes, I am running for this work. You who follow such a teacher before you must at least imitate him.
Now you must lay the foundation of the kingdom of heaven centering on your clan. Knowing that this work is the enterprise of your whole life, you must go, having sworn it even by planting a knife before Heaven. If you go wrong, you are in great trouble. Do you understand? If you go wrong once along the way, you get badly hurt. Knowing that, from now on, you must return and bring even one more person into the Suwon district. The number of 250 here is too many. Twenty-five would be enough and more.
Now a free age has come in which my forty-year hill is driven into a ten-year crest. Accordingly, since what I walked across for forty years must be driven into ten years, you must witness to one person a month. Doing that for ten years is 120 people, is it not? After I blessed the 120 Couples, I selected holy grounds on the course of a world tour, did I not? Do you know why I did so? Because only by finding and establishing the center of the lost ancestors and the lost people can the lost land be found. All this is according to the Principle.
Become tribal messiahs
Heavenly fortune is approaching toward our Korea. So there is no need to fear Kim Il Sung of the North. And I tell you not to trust America either. One must believe only in God. I am now doing such work. On the day when the devotion accumulated by some Unification Church members united together puts to shame the devotion offered by Kim Il Sung’s faction for Kim Il Sung, Korea will not perish. Do you understand? That is why we are offering devotion until October. I tell you not to trust other people. Our road is urgent. Even if those who are to perish perish, we must not perish. We have come to know the secret method of not perishing. It is nothing but going according to the principle and the fundamental rule.
That is why I tell you to become tribal messiahs. Because it would take much time to unfold and explain this concretely from a historical standpoint, there is no time to speak of it. You must become tribal messiahs. To become so, you must witness to 120 people. How good it would be if you witnessed to all your family—your mother, father, elder brother, elder sister, and the rest!
If it becomes so, everything is handled within the household. There is no need for the trifling business of going to fishermen like Peter and James, spreading a report, and dying on a cross.
If everything is done within the household, who become the twelve apostles?
Without even going as far as in-laws, it can all be done with people within the eighth degree of kinship. Because Jesus could not do this, he went about spreading a report and was hung on the cross. It would have been enough if he had quietly shut the door at home and witnessed inside.
If relatives whisper together among themselves, who would interfere? Thus, had he done it centering on relatives, he would have accomplished everything; but it is Jesus’ destiny that, having spread the work out centering on the nation, he died on the cross bearing the grief of a defeated man.
We must not vanish in such misfortune. Because I must indemnify and restore such a position of Jesus, I have no choice but to do it on the people level and the world level, but I tell you not to do so.
To return to your hometown, you must stand in a position of having fulfilled your responsibility by tending with all your devotion the children of faith you had sown. That is why you are now going back to the places where you witnessed in the 1960s, are you not? After settling the children of faith of that time, you must then go to your hometown.
Will you do it or not?
Let those who will do it raise their hands. You must, without fail, do it. Do you understand? District leader, stand up. What is that hand raised to do? It is a hand raised to witness, is it not?
Who is the person responsible for the province here? It is the district leader. What is the district leader’s name? “Moon Hong Kwon.” Moon Hong Kwon? Well, that is splendid. The Suwon district is bound to do well. At a glance, the district leader’s appearance is like that of an old man who has not eaten. But if he has offered devotion until becoming such an underfed-looking old man, then inexhaustible wisdom is necessarily contained there.
