The Central Being of Harmony

No action begins alone. There must be something that causes the action. It means there must, without fail, be a relative relationship. To form this relative relationship, there must be a subject and an object, and this subject and object must hold some decisive factor for forming a relationship with each other. Without that, they cannot form a reliable relationship.

Every Action Must Have a Relative Relationship

Even in the solar system, because the sun is in the subject position, the planets in relation to it can act.

Likewise, if a foundation on which the standard of such subject and object can be decided has not been formed for all existing things, order and organization do not come about. Only when the subject is settled, and the object is settled, do all order and organization arise. We know the fact that the phenomenal world of today and the world of all things too are formed in this way. Nature is all made according to such a principle.

The human body too maintains life while all its members move, centering on the heart. When we consider our mind, there is a center in the mind too. That center is absolute in the mutual relationships of human beings. It is what is called the character a human being holds. Centering on that character, human beings have lived until now.

Then what kind of person does one call a person of character?

One calls a person of character one who can stand in a central position within the system of some society. For example, if there is a person of character who is respected in some village, he is a person who can perform a central action, whether in living or spiritually, for the people living within and around that village. Only then can he become an object of respect.

It is the same with a nation as well. A nation, too, is formed centering on the representative of the nation, that is, on one person of character. By the citizenry forming a relative relationship centering on that person of character, a substantial organization is formed. When we think in this way, in the world of broad scope too there must likewise be one central person of character.

Even though one is a person of character, seen externally, that is, physically, there is no particular difference from an ordinary person. But seen internally, in the aspect of thought or in the spiritual aspect, he differs from ordinary people.

Seen thus, we can know that what defines a person of character is not a person’s external aspect but the spiritual aspect. Therefore, one must discuss character centering on the spiritual field of the human being.

To become one who broadens this spiritual field, one must know the world of the mind. The mind holds an activeness that can make contact infinitely. Seen from this point, we can know that the desire a person holds does not arise from the body but arises from the mind. The mind acts endlessly and draws forth infinite desire.

Furthermore, even looking at our character, that which is called character is not limited within the boundary sphere of some society or nation or the world.

Further, we can know the fact that it is going forward while gazing upon an absolute highest standard that can cross beyond even past, present, and future.

When we look at the working of the inner mind that thus seeks to go forward even to an absolute position, we can know the fact that the world of the mind is connected with the infinite.

But the question is whether this mind has settled into place as an absolute standard in the spiritual world. This has been the question until now. When it is said that the mind has taken such a position, a starting point at which the human being can become the master is prepared.

What kind of position would that starting point be?

It is a central position at which the requisites of the highest happiness and the requisites of absolute value that the human being requires can be decided. Yet even though one stands in such a position, there will also be a highest being visible from that position, and there will be one holding the highest value, and there will be the highest treasure. And the question is where there is a character who, in such a position, can be equipped with the highest relative requisites and sing of happiness.

Therefore, the human being cannot judge the reason for things without setting up absolute requisites. If one has set up such an absolute standard, transcending temporality and spatiality, there is nothing at all that becomes a problem.

The Standard of Character That Can Become the Absolute Center

Then what is the standard of character that can become the absolute center?

With a character centered on the human individual alone, one cannot reach that standard. That is why one pursues a deity or an absolute being. Then what kind of relationship must the Absolute Being and I have? Unless the human being becomes one, from a relative position, with God, who is the Absolute Being, he cannot enter the subject position. But in becoming one, one must become one in the inner aspect rather than the outer aspect. When a person becomes one with the Absolute Being, the inner aspect becomes the question. That is, it means one must not wish to become one externally in a relative relationship but must seek to become one internally.

Our mind goes seeking the absolute highest standard. That is why, if God exists, one will wish to become one centering on that God. God will wish not to become one in the external field but to become one in a position where one can be connected with the highest value of the inner standard.

When parents would become one with their children too, it is not that they would become one in living but that they would become one in the world of the mind, that is, in the world of love. Likewise, that a person wishes to become one with the Absolute Being is because he himself wishes to stand in a central position.

According to the Principle, within the subject there are inner nature and outer form, there are internal nature and external form, and there are above-and-below relationships. The conclusion emerges that in order for the subject being who is the root of all things, to present an ideology of unification and one view of purpose, there must be above-and-below relationships within that subject and there must be before-and-behind relationships. Inferring through the human mind, such a conclusion emerges.

All beings, beginning with the human being, are acting through three hundred sixty degrees while changing direction in a relative position centering on the subject. But in a position where the direction in which the subject moves and the environment in which it is placed change, one cannot feel fixed and infinite happiness. Then where is that position where one can obtain eternal happiness? It is a position within the absolute sphere, holding content one with the subject upon a subject standard. That position is a position that commands and governs everything. Only when one comes to be in such a position do the requisites of happiness at last arise.

A person feels happiness when, in a position where he becomes the center of all things and can govern all those things, he himself becomes the motive and all things come to be equipped with relative requisites. That is why the human being must settle on a central position before an absolute standard in which the inner and outer relationships and the above-and-below relationships with the Absolute Being who is the center of the universe have been wholly mobilized. Without that, one cannot feel the highest happiness.

Then how must one form such a relationship?

One must form it centering on the love of the parent-child relationship. The parent-child relationship centered on love is a vertical relationship, and the relationship of husband and wife is a horizontal relationship. That is why in Korea there is a saying that one trusts one’s child more than one’s wife. This is a saying that gives weight to the above-and-below relationship.

What the human being fundamentally pursues is to enter the position of the Absolute Being and there become one body with the subject. When one enters such a position, an above-and-below relationship is formed. When a relative relationship is formed here, horizontally a relative relationship of plus and minus, that is, of subject and object, unfolds. This is precisely what for us human beings is the love of husband and wife.

What becomes the greatest question for the human being is becoming one with the highest center the human being pursues, that is, with the Absolute Being. In pursuing the nouns absolute and relative, it means the human being must cross beyond the relative standard and become one with the Absolute Being.

Only then is an above-and-below relationship established. The human being must thus enter even to the position of an above-and-below relationship. And thus one must become one together with the Absolute Being, who is the origin of all existence, and hold absolute content.

When one comes to stand in a position of thus becoming one with the Absolute Being, His happiness can become my happiness, and His ideal can become my ideal, and His situation can become my situation, and all His relationships and bonds can become my relationships and bonds.

When it becomes so, a complete parent-child relationship is formed. The human being was originally made to set out from such a position.

When the Human Being, the Central Being of Harmony, Becomes One with the Absolute Being

The human being is the central being of harmony. But to harmonize, an absolute central standard must be settled. It is just the same as the fact that if many people keep the beat, the above-and-below relationships must be well connected, centering on the conductor.

We have learned through the Principle that the central being of harmony of this universe is the human being. Because such a human being is in a position in accord with the absolute standard, where that human being dwells, the universe dwells, and the world of existence acts centering on him. And through that action, power arises in the world of existence.

What is the content over which God has lamented until now?

God is a spiritual being, a being like the mind. Such a God wishes to become one with a being like the body. This being, like the body, is precisely the human being.

Therefore, the human being must become one with God, who is a being like the mind. Yet he is not becoming one. This is precisely the reason God has lamented until now. On the day the human being becomes one with God, the universe will automatically become one.

Why does it automatically become one?

The universe made by God takes the human being as subject and stands in the object position to him. In that position, it must become one with the human being. Only then can they form a relationship with each other within the sphere of creation.

If the human being becomes one with God, all existing things too can form a relationship with God and the human being. The relationship here is not a mutually opposed position but a relative position in which they can give and receive. The scope of that relationship is supracosmic. Because a relative relationship centered on the Absolute Being is thus connected even within the absolute sphere, there can be no being that escapes that sphere. Therefore, if the being who can connect the Absolute Being and all things, that is, the human being, becomes one with the Absolute Being, the universe is naturally unified.

If in the historical ages the central being of character that human beings desired had been settled, it would without fail have become a world of harmony. When the central being is settled, harmony without fail unfolds. As our Principle says, a complete center creates a complete object. Because everything that exists cannot exist apart from relative factors, in existing there is bound without fail to be a subject and an object. To put it another way, it means that if there is a complete subject, there is an object. Because all beings exist in the universe holding God’s attributes, they are made to exist relatively according to the principle of creation.

The human being has pursued one central character through the six-thousand-year historical process. To find this, countless forebears have walked a road of toil. Passing through countless ages, the human being has pursued one character that can adapt to that environment and an ideal world centered on that character.

Only by giving and receiving together with an object does the human being become one whole being. A person of character must be able to have dominion over an object. That object can become the citizenry, and can also become the national territory.

That is why, if one is a worldwide person of character, one must have a worldwide citizenry and must have a worldwide territory. Seen from this position, God Himself too must have a cosmic people. It is the same with God. In the Unification Church, we call the combining of heaven and earth the Cosmos. Those who can become masters here are the people of Heaven. And the foundation on which these people of Heaven can stand is the territory of the heavenly kingdom. It means God too must be equipped with such a foundation.

Then, if a person enters an absolute position and comes to stand in a subject position, will he become a person who desires nothing whatsoever? It is not so. When one comes to stand in an absolute position, one without fail comes to pursue a second desire. That is seeking something relative.

The human being must draw near to the absolute position. Next, one must form a relationship with the relative, centering on the absolute subject. The larger that scope, the more one must stand in a position where one can draw nearer within the absolute sphere. Accordingly, if one is in a position where one can rule a nation, one must draw near within the absolute sphere centering on that nation.

If, transcending the historical ages, one becomes a representative leader before the nation, one will without fail enter the worldwide sphere beyond the nation. The more one thus enters the worldwide sphere, the wider that scope becomes. When it becomes so, a desire arises to make one's worldwide sphere centering on the absolute sphere. Seen thus, the human being cannot be happy with the absolute standard itself. Relative requisites are without fail necessary.

Likewise, God too must settle a relative standard of character and must have a relative world centered on that character. Without that, He cannot be happy. Thus, if one becomes a person who can return happiness to God, that person becomes a standard in the historical ages.

The Highest Position the Human Being Pursues

In the six-thousand-year historical process until now, we human beings have hoped for and pursued an absolute purpose and an absolute being and an absolute love centered on God. But we have not stood in a position where we could connect such a purpose and being and love. Though a historic distance has passed, if one would become such a being in this age, one must receive recognition from the Absolute Being. This is the question. Until now there has been no such person but Jesus alone.

There is no clearer word revealing the relationship between the Absolute Being and oneself than the word Jesus spoke, “God is my Father.” And among the words designating all relative relationships, there can absolutely be no better word than his saying, “I am the subject and you are the objects. I am the bridegroom, and you are the bride.” Therefore, one must make it so that such a relationship is actually connected to all humankind. In connecting, it is not connecting centering on material value. It is not connecting, centering on the present physical human being. Then, centering on what must one connect? One must connect, centering on love.

However much we have settled on an absolute being and however much we have established an absolute purpose, if one is not glad there, it is of no use at all. Living and dwelling must be glad. Living and dwelling are done for the sake of achieving the purpose. When one has achieved that purpose, there will be something new there beyond existence itself.

What is that? When we look at the man, if a man, the woman, if a woman, what is the most precious thing to them more than anything? It is love. Love alone becomes the factor of happiness that can connect with this.

However well a person has set up a purpose, when he fails to establish the subject authority of love that will govern that purpose, he must again pursue a new purpose. The limit point of purpose cannot be above love.

Then in the historical ages until now, has there been a person who has said he confirmed the Absolute Being and confirmed the Absolute Being’s love? The only one who can be said to have set up such a standard is Jesus. How did Jesus settle the relationship with the Absolute Being? He settled on God as Father.

Jesus’ Purpose and the View of Character He Presented

Then what is Jesus’ purpose?

It is to achieve a world of goodness. It is to achieve a new world of goodness that the Father and the Son desire. That world is a relative world that can be achieved only when the Father and the Son are absolutely connected.

If an absolute bond between Father and Son is not involved, one cannot expect that world. The Father must have a son. What kind of position is that son’s position? It is a position that can become God’s object, settled as the relative being of God, the Absolute Being.

Then what is it that Father and son require in common?

It is a world in which the two become an absolute matrix and an absolute relationship is formed with this matrix so that they can communicate with each other. Apart from that world, all is a false world. In forming a relationship with such a world, means and methods will not do. Money will not do either. There must be love. Centering on love, organization too must stand, and order too must stand.

If there is a person who lives for the common purpose of humankind, that person will become one centering on love for humankind. Likewise, if a citizenry holds love for their homeland, they will become one centering on patriotic thought. The stronger the mind of patriotism, the more they will become one vertically centering on patriotic thought to achieve the nation.

If one knows that one is in a position where one cannot carry on the patriotic movement alone, one must connect horizontal bonds. This is what is called gathering comrades.

That they gathered comrades and carried out the March First Movement too was to recover the nation and make the whole citizenry happy. Our people, who could not recover the nation, are pitiful. Therefore, to be happy, the whole must become one from a position of loving the nation and recover the nation. One must recover a nation one loves. In order for the family too to be happy, one must find a family one loves, and in order for the world too to be happy, one must find a world one loves.

Seen from this viewpoint, what is the content Jesus Christ came to this earth and proclaimed? What is it that can become the matrix of eternal hope that can connect the world as one? It is love. You must know that in a place where there is no love, there is no hope, no purpose, and no happiness either.

We must know the view of character Jesus Christ presented, that is, that we human beings are representatives of the Absolute Being. That is why, as representatives of the Absolute Being, one must hold absolute love and eternal subjecthood. However great the hardship, one must go holding such subjecthood. This is the thought of the Messiah. The world Jesus desired was an absolute world. That is why the world we desire too must be eternal. To achieve such a world, one must love.

What kind of love must one have?

Rather than hating one’s enemy, one must love even one’s enemy. The whole universe cannot but enter into this love.

Jesus is one who stood in a position of having to have such love, representing the historical ages. That is why all humankind must become one to enter within such a sphere. For that, one must settle on a center at whatever age. Here, the subject being who can become the central being of harmony becomes the question.

God did not make all things for God’s own sake. He made them for the human being. He made the human being as the central being of the world of existence. That is why in the human being all the elements and natures of the world of existence are contained.

Accordingly, when a fallen human being is settled as a complete center, heaven and earth publicly acknowledge it. Such a human being comes to stand in the position of the central being of the harmony of the universe. We must enter even within such a sphere. To become such a being, the question is how one discovers a self that gives and receives with the whole universe.

You must know that as fallen human beings you are going to seek the character of the world of the Way. Seen from this viewpoint, you must enter the central position where character can be settled in the world of the Way. Shakyamuni too entered such a position and said that in heaven and on earth he alone was honored.

If One Would Restore the Position of the Central Being of Harmony

Then, on whose account did the relative-created world come into being?

It exists because of me. On whose account does it exist? It exists because of us. It exists to give us joy. That is why the human being must himself become the motive and make an environment in which he can feel happiness with the result obtained. Herein lies the Will for developing it into a higher ideology of love. When the human being loves all things and all things return beauty to the human being, entering that state, the human being becomes the central being of harmony.

Where must a human being bound to such a position place his center?

The living you aim at, the living you hope for, is not itself what is important. You must find that center in your present living. Then through what method can one find that center? The question arises in reality of what my own fallen self, who has lost the position of the central being of harmony, must do if he would find that position.

Then what must one do? It is not that one becomes the subject only by being greater in comparison with all existing things. It means one must have the confidence that one must become the subject; in other words, the confidence that one must be better than you.

When spring comes, and all things revive in the garden, seeing the flowers bloom is a must; while admiring and saying, “Ah! The flowers are good,” think that you must be better than they. Even while looking at a figure overflowing with new hope, one must think that one must become more than that.

Furthermore, when you see a bird flying and singing and harmonizing together with nature, you must hold the confidence that you must be better than that bird. When you gaze upon the great sea too, you must be better than the broad and great sea, and even when you are alone in the mountains you must think how you can express the inner heart (심정) with which God rejoiced when at the beginning He made all things.

The subject must be absolute. The whole universe must become one and harmonize together with the absolute subject. You must enter such a position, that is, a position where you can integrate all things. If one would enter such a sphere, the motive that works from God must without fail intervene.

When one becomes such a person, one must, while criticizing what one has felt about the universe until now, feel a new emotion, saying, “How interestingly must God have made all things? God made them for my sake.” Even while gazing upon a single sow thistle by the roadside, one must know that God made it for the human being. One must know with what kind of mind the Father made the world when He made it.

Because it is the human being’s original demand and wish to take God as the absolute center and form a relative standard with Him and become in accord with Him, when the human being enters such a position, he will feel to the full all the original beauty and joy of creation that God felt.

Then how must one feel that heart (심정) with which God rejoiced when He made all things?

Also, how great was the toil of making all things for the human being? Knowing that God made the human being, how must one feel that heart with which He made him, thinking that the human being would like it? You must attain such a heart of God through experience. Whether an object is disliked or liked is not the question. There one must attain God’s heart through experience.

If you would grasp such a thing through experience, you will have to sit in the garden and meditate from morning until evening until the sun sets. You will have to sink into a sphere where you do not even know time passing. When there one draws a long breath, the air of this universe will come rushing in with vital power. One must live together with the vital power of the universe in this way. When I, who thus live, breathe out, all beings will awaken anew, and when I fall deep asleep, all things will harmonize relatively. Such a position is the position of an absolute being who can rule over all existence.

When one comes to stand in such a position, only when one is equipped with a relative relationship with all things will all things receive when you breathe out and give when you breathe in.

If one thus forms a relationship of giving and receiving with all things centering on love, this universe comes to give and receive with one another.

You must not stop at such a relationship but must become the central being of harmony. And thus, you must become such a figure as can be like the form of beautiful nature and like the universe itself. When one enters such a state, only there does one become the center of the harmony of the universe.

Completely Pull Out Worldly Desire

Only when all things also become one in such a position where object and subject have become one does one become happy. Only when it becomes so has one at last created one world. But the human being until now has not held a relationship with such a world and has led a life apart from it. He has lived centering only on his thoughts and has pursued that. That becomes something vain.

When you become the central being of harmony, even a bird flying feels as though it flies for the sake of the Providence of Restoration. Such a conductive body must be within our minds. Just as, for electricity to flow, there must without fail be a conductor, so within our minds there must be a conductive body.

Within us human beings there is a desire to become the central being of harmony centering on the universe, and at the same time a desire to live centering on oneself is at work. That is why one must pull out the latter even to the root. Then something new is bound to be filled in there. It is just the same as when a low-pressure area forms and a high-pressure force comes toward the low-pressure side. The reason for things is made so. That is why one must pull out all one’s own notions. Then something new is bound to appear.

Something proportionate to the force pulled out appears. It means a being appears that conveys something new. It means a being that conveys it comes forth. Otherwise, it means this cannot be filled.

Just as, if one makes a low-pressure sphere, wind blows in from the high-pressure sphere, so the human being too must pull out his notions to meet God. If there be an absolute goodness, one must do so. If only that foundation opens within the low-pressure sphere, something like a rainstorm will set out from the high-pressure sphere.

God and Satan, this world and God, are in opposed positions. That is why one must completely pull out worldly desire. One must not fail to know this. In pulling it out, one must not pull it out slowly. One must suddenly pull it all out at once. One must become a person who can do that. Is that not so? One must pull it all out at once.

The Teacher is now well past forty, but he is doing the work from the position that several thousand years have passed. In the midst of that, he is working together with an unseen power. Today we need cosmic power. If body and mind become one and there is a purpose, one can receive such power. You must know this.

Seen from this viewpoint, the human being must become the central being of harmony. For that, one must pull out one’s own worldly desires and all selfish desires that are within the fallen sphere.

Furthermore, the human being has a physiological working, that is, an instinctive desire to multiply, and that is flowing into something centered on oneself. One seeks to make all people into one’s own fence.

Then how does one deny my mistaken existence?

To think centering on oneself is to sacrifice others and have oneself do well. How will one deny the thought of placing all people beneath oneself and receiving their protection? How will one deny being within a mistaken sphere of living? This is the question. The next question is eating and clothing and using. But such things are simple. The question is how one denies that.

If one’s own living has gone wrong, and if in comparison with this there is what is true, one must completely remove what is mistaken. You must enter such a state. Entering such a state, one must become a truly necessary person.

If one enters such a state, the sound of the heart’s beating will be heard louder than the sound of a train whistle. Do you understand what I mean? Only by entering such a state that the sound of the heart is heard louder than a train whistle can one become the central being of harmony. Only then, it means, can one at last stand in the subject position.

If One Were to Cross the Boundary Line of Becoming the Central Being of Harmony

Then how will one cross over the boundary line of becoming the central being of harmony to stand in the subject position?

There must be a new awareness of existence and a new purpose. One must form character centering on God. Overall, it is a question of heart (심정).

For us now, more than anything, the Word is necessary. You must know that only when we become one with the Word can we be together with God. If one thus becomes one with the Word, one will be connected to that boundary line. When it becomes so, for a fallen human being, it is the same as a miracle.

Then on whose account was the creation of heaven and earth done?

It was not made to become the center, taking the human being as the object. It was made to be glad. To be glad, what must there be? There must be a purpose. Without a purpose, there is no joy. One must connect the environment to this purpose, centering on the purpose. But in this environment there is a law that must be kept. One must achieve the purpose while keeping this law.

Are not the words you speak private words?

Are they not all private things within the fallen sphere? Would it do if God said He disliked the words you speak? You must speak words you can speak as the central being of harmony. Have you thought about such things as, “If there be an Absolute Being, what words shall I speak in a position that Absolute Being can publicly acknowledge, in a position where I can form a relationship with that Absolute Being? What words shall I speak at first? What words would you speak before the Absolute Being? Would you speak of money? Would you say that since I am a man, find me a bride? What words would you speak?

You were born through your parents. That is why who would be the object to whom you could speak upon being born? It is your parents. Parents. Is that not so? What was it that I could speak first upon being born? It is Papa and Mama. What could there be beyond that? The Papa and Mama I call are the Papa and Mama that human beings of old called in their original position. It is an interesting thing. All of you, try calling Papa and Mama a thousand times, ten thousand times. Find out what the flavor of Papa and Mama is. That flavor will be inexhaustible. When one calls Papa and Mama, will not Papa and Mama answer? If one calls, they are made to answer. Why? Because subject and object are made so.

If there is a complete object, a complete subject is bound to appear. If this is the principle, then if one calls Papa and Mama, they are bound to answer. When it becomes so, they come to like each other. Does one come to like it when there is no answer, though one calls countless times? It is the same in going seeking God. One must live together with God from the same position as a little child spending time with Papa and Mama. Though one grows up sucking milk at the mother’s breast and soiling oneself on her lap, the parents teach one everything. It is so with the relationship with God, too.

Now we have come to know that the words "father" and "mother" are true words.

What is the next true word?

Next are “elder brother” and “elder sister.” After passing through such stages, one can find an object. It means one can find a partner. Because one was born through love, one must be perfected through love. Only then does one become a perfected person. Centering on God, one must embrace and love the world. One must govern all things. One must achieve one world of purpose centered on love. Would there be such a world, or not? Such a world without fail exists.

There is only one road for crossing over the boundary line. Are there two roads by which parents love their children? There is only one road. Though six thousand years have flowed by in terms of time, can that love transcend historical time and space, or not? Is there any difference between the love of parents two thousand years ago and the love of parents now? There is no difference. This love is absolute.

The love of parents is absolute. Not only for human beings but also for animals and plants, it is all the same. Animals and plants too love because there is something invisible. In this way, in love it is all the same whether human beings or animals or plants. What is that invisible thing itself? It is love. Love between parent and child, love between brothers, love for one’s own people, though the dimensions differ, are alike in being absolute. The human being has led history until now centering on such love.

Now we must cast away the fallen world and cross over to the original world. But the question is casting away. Anyone at all comes to cast away what he had before only when there is something he likes more. A person who casts away without holding something he likes more is a foolish person. Is that not so?

If one would cast away one’s life, one must obtain something more precious than life. Only then can one cast it away.

To Obtain What Is More Precious

For the sake of what is more precious, what will one cast away?

To obtain what is precious, matters will arise in which one must cast away one’s younger brother, cast away one’s elder brother, and cast away one’s father and mother. Do you understand what I mean? “Yes.” You must clearly know that such matters arise. In casting away, one must cast away while holding what is more precious. Then how will one obtain what one can love more than one’s elder brother? How will one prepare a foundation on which one can love more than one’s younger brother than one’s mother?

Now fallen human beings do not hold such a foundation and are taking what is inferior. That is why you must kick aside a mistaken environment and step forth for the sake of a more complete world in which you can be for the whole, centering on love. Even though that road is slow, one must go with one’s life at stake. One must go forward into the world of love together with God.

You believe in the Unification Church, but have you come out of the Unification Church and cast away your home? Have you cast it away, or not? Have you really cast it away? For what did you cast it away? One must be able to cast it away for humankind. Would a person who cast it away with such a mind change? Would a person who cast away his family and cast away his parents with such a mind change? In any case, we must cast away. One must cast away to obtain what is more precious.

Now, unless one finds these people, one cannot enter the world of heart (심정). For that, one must cast away everything of one’s own.

Jesus said, “If any man will come after me, let him take up his cross and follow me.”

If one would bear one’s own cross, one must deny oneself. To say "deny" here does not mean to deny blindly. If one has cast away the world, if one has cast away that nation, one must discover something greater than that.

If one has cast away one’s family, one must discover something more precious than that.

If one has cast away everything with one’s life at stake, one must discover something more valuable than that. If one has discovered such content, one must go without regret. One must go with dignity.

If One Knows God’s Heart, One Can Deny Everything of Oneself

Among you, those who have been driven out because of the Unification Church, raise your hands. Raise your hands. There will indeed be some. If one enters a state of having discovered precious value and goes forward, one becomes tomorrow’s subject. One becomes tomorrow’s subject. Do you understand? Because you have not yet stood in the subject position, you must go the road of becoming a subject while absolutely submitting to the Will.

Those who have walked such a road were the Christian believers who believe in Jesus. Then what has Satan done until now? He opposed the people who walked such a road so that they could not become subjects. He asked them to take Satan as their subject. He has come forth opposing in the manner of, “Having been born into this world, it is enough just to eat and sleep and live like others; how long do you intend to live? It is a short life of at most seventy or eighty years; why do you carry on so? Have you seen God? Simply living in this world is best.”

If one casts away one’s present position and goes to a worse place, it is evil. But if one goes to a better place centering on God, it is goodness. Casting away is the same, but the question is where one goes. That is why one must cast away centering on God. It must be done so. Seen centering on the world, one may become a qualified person, but seen centering on Heaven, one must become an unqualified person.

If one casts away one’s present position and enters a state of Zen meditation, one becomes in a state of selflessness. When it becomes so, what is obtained? One becomes a person of character. Such a foundation is established for you.

Then have you entered the Unification Church and been equipped with the character the Unification Church desires?

Have you been equipped with character through the Word?

What must one do to become a person of character such as the Unification Church desires? One must cast away the view of character one has held until now. That is why there is the threefold judgment. In the Last Days, one cannot enter the heavenly kingdom without passing through the threefold judgment.

Can one deny my conduct and everything of mine?

Can one deny it all at once? With what can one deny it? One must do it with God’s love. If one knows God’s heart (심정), one can deny it. By knowing God’s heart, one can cross the boundary line.

Now you must stand in the position of the central being of harmony, but how can one feel that one has entered such a position? How can you feel the fact that “Now in the world of faith I have risen to a certain degree”? Now even if I live however I please, I will not go to hell. Now I have crossed a certain standard.

Have I crossed the boundary line?

One must be able to write a poem praising God upon looking at the sky, and be able to write praising God even upon looking at a river. One must enter a state where one can, even while looking at a flower, face that flower like a lover and write a literary work praising God.

If one enters such a state, one can know at once. But with a mind that remains just as it is worldly, it will not do. Absolutely it will not do.

You must be able to give and receive the Word together with God and be able to contact God’s heart (심정). The more one contacts God’s heart, the more one becomes a second absolute center. When it becomes so, one comes to stand upon the foundation of a family centered on God. A person who stands in such a position is the best.

When one sees a person who stands in such a position, though one does not know why, he looks good. You, too, will have felt such a thing. Why is that? It is because the bond of original nature has been invested in that person. It is because one has seen his side profile or front profile through the bond of original nature. It is because in the inner world, centering on a real factor, either I have stood in the subject position or he stands in the relative position. Because one holds such content, one receives a feeling that one looks good through the working of the original mind.

The Lord Who Comes Is the Central Being of Harmony of the Human World

Then how would the Lord who comes hereafter be?

Seen through the working of the original mind, all people ought to like him, but because we are in a fallen world, it will become a problem. Among people there will be historic beings who can represent humankind historically, and there will be beings of the age who represent that age.

If one turns up the historic sages, there will be Confucius, and there will be Jesus, and there will be Shakyamuni. But you must hold a mind that says you are better than Confucius, better than Jesus, better than Shakyamuni. Such a mind must well up.

The nearer one draws to God’s absolute sphere, the better it is made to be. Why is it good? It is because one comes to stand in a position of absolute value. It is just the same as when people who seek a gold mine and aim at a fortune at a stroke discover a vein of gold in a rocky mountain and are glad. That is why, if one goes near to God, it is joyful, and if one grows distant, it is sorrowful.

You must bear historic fruit and fruit of the age in a position near to God. When it becomes so, the good people who came and went in the past will come to like it. The conscientious people who are upon this earth today too will like it. If it be such a person, he comes to be better than his father in the satanic world and better than his elder brother. Finally, it becomes so.

One must be able to give everything. One must be able to give without receiving. If one does so, there will be no regret. That is not something one regrets even after a year passes. It is not something one regrets even after ten years pass.

If one lives a whole lifetime like that, one becomes a self who can be eternally guaranteed. The One who comes holding such character is the Lord. To put it another way, that One is the central being of harmony of the human world.

You must become people whom all people can like. You must be equipped with such a standard. You must be equipped with a subjecthood of love that all people can like. You must be equipped with subjecthood of character, subjecthood of heart (심정), subjecthood of the Word. Do you understand? At the very first, one must be equipped with subjecthood of the Word. Next, one must be equipped with subjecthood of character, and finally one must be equipped with subjecthood of heart.

If such a thing is achieved centering on the Word of the Unification Church, one must regard that Word, which is more valuable than anything, as absolute.

Then how much have the Blessed Families here regarded each other as absolute between husband and wife?

Because they were bound in relationship through the Word, husband and wife must regard each other as absolute. If they become one centering on heart (심정) with each other, God’s wish is achieved through your individual selves.

Since you are Blessed Families who must establish the standard Adam and Eve failed to establish, how much have you regarded each other as absolute centering on God’s love?

Regarding each other as absolute, you must have absolute love. Centering on such love, you must become one and become the central being of harmony.

Become One: Centering on Absolute Love

Husband and wife, even while gazing upon the mountain ahead, ask on whose account that mountain came into being, and even while thinking of the whole universe, ask on whose account this universe came into being. Then one answers that it came into being because of me and, at the same time, because of you.

Husband and wife are precisely this. To bring to accomplishment the purpose for which this universe came into being, to give weight to the subject purpose, is the road by which husband and wife become one. Husband and wife speak centering on the mind, centering on character centering on love. Husband and wife go the same road. Is that not so?

Even if a country girl marries a cabinet minister, what happens?

They go the same road. Do they go the same road or not? Even though that country woman has not even finished elementary school, all people must bow their heads, calling her the minister’s wife. Do they bow, or not? They bow. In this way, husband and wife go together.

For husband and wife, is there your love separately and my love separately?

It is your love and, at the same time, my love. It is your love and, at the same time, my love. When husband and wife ask each other, “How much do you love me?” If one says one loves this much, does it feel good? Only when one says one loves the most does it feel good. Is that not so?

Where does absolute character, absolute heart (심정) absolute love, by which one can exhort and comfort one another centering on true love, unfold from? It is the family. It unfolds centering on the husband and wife of a family. This husband and wife must bear children and achieve the Four Position Foundation. If a family becomes one with absolute character and heart and love, the Four Position Foundation centered on God is achieved.

When it becomes so, that family becomes the central being of harmony of everything. It becomes the central being of harmony representing all people and representing all families, the central being of harmony of the clan, the central being of harmony of countless peoples, the central being of harmony of countless nations.

If it is thus restored even to the national standard, the world is automatically unified. Seen theoretically, it is made so.

Newly Affirm Reality Centering on God

We Unification Church members must achieve accord of heart (심정), accord of ideology, and accord of living. In such a position, one must be equipped with absoluteness. And thus, one must go forward to the world.

To go to the world, what is necessary?

A nation is necessary. Before combining with the nation, what is necessary? A people is necessary. Before a people are necessary, what is necessary? A clan is necessary. Before a clan is necessary, what is necessary? A family is necessary.

Then before a family is necessary, what is necessary? An individual is necessary. In the end, my individual self is the question. It means the individual is the question. One must become an I who can embrace the family, an I who can embrace the clan, an I who can embrace the people and the nation and the world. Without becoming such an I, one has no relation to the world. One becomes my individual self, who has no relation to the world within the absolute sphere. It becomes so.

That is why in the Unification Church we would seek an absolute view of character and present an absolute view of value to humankind. That is why, if God’s providence of salvation is achieved centering on the Unification Church, the unification of this universe comes about automatically. That is the principle. Do you understand?

If one would achieve a nation and world centered on God, one must be for the nation more than for the family and for the world more than for the nation. That is why, to save the world, one must make the Republic of Korea an offering. To save the Republic of Korea, the Unification Church must become an offering. To achieve a new nation, one must deny oneself and cross over into a world of light. Do you understand? One must charge toward such a world. In charging toward such a world, without standing at the head, one cannot hold authority beyond that.

There is a purpose in the Teacher’s carrying out a strategy until now. He is doing this work to become the central being of harmony. That one must overcome individually, and must overcome at the family level, and must overcome at the clan level, and must overcome at the national level, is the road the Unification Church must go. We must fulfill that mission until we are settled as a vertical central nation. One must go forward thinking of it as the mission of one’s whole life.

Today our Unification Church must stand in an absolute position. When it becomes so, our families too come to stand in an absolute position, and the Teacher too comes to stand in an absolute position. Also, the nation too comes to stand in an absolute position. Such an absolute vertical relationship must be connected horizontally.

If a vertical person appears in the nation, that position becomes a position representing the nation; if he appears in the clan, that position becomes a position representing all clans; and if he appears in the family, that position becomes a position representing countless families. Only when one center thus appears can a heavenly kingdom of peace be achieved. Is that not so?

What must one do to become the central being of harmony?

After denying everything in reality, one must newly affirm it again, centering on God. And thus, one must gather mistaken reality. You must know that without going forward in that way, one cannot go the road the Unification Church would go.
