We know well that the word "restoration" came into being through the Fall. We human beings, through falling, lost the Creator who made us. Through losing that Creator, the human being came to lose the true Parent, and through losing the true Parent brought about the result of losing true brothers and family and nation and world. In this way we have lost all that is most precious as a human being.
That is why, what is it we must find?
One must not pursue the glory of one’s own self and seek to bring one’s own purpose to accomplishment. We must find what is basic for us, what is most important. We must know that we must bring to accomplishment a purpose by which this nation, this world, can be good, rather than my individual purpose.
The True Wish a Human Being Must Hold
When we look at our Republic of Korea, the Republic of Korea is at present made into two nations. North and South are divided by the 38th Parallel as the boundary. What is it that one wishes for from such a position of having become two? It is returning to the position before becoming two. That is, becoming one. This cannot but be the common wish of these people living in the land of Korea, of the people living in the South or in the North.
Then, when we look centering on the Republic of Korea, even though North and South were unified, that is, even though the people’s wish was achieved so that they reconciled and became one, it does not end with that.
However much North and South became one, because the world has not become one, one must either become one centering on the world or make it become one. To put it another way, it means one must stand either in the position of subject or in the position of object. Otherwise, even though one becomes a unified single nation, one cannot bear tomorrow’s wishes and advance toward the world.
Further, even though one made the world one centered on the Republic of Korea, it does not end with that. We know that there is not only the physical world (육계 肉界), that is, this world of reality, but also an inner world. To put it another way, we know that at the same time as there is an earthly world, there is a heavenly world. Therefore, even though one made the world one, what is pursued next is that the formless world and the formed world become one.
Then will it end by making the formed world and the formless world one? No. However much one makes heaven and earth, in the terminology of the Unification Church, the Cosmos (천주 天宙) into one, as long as one cannot attend one center that becomes its owner, the one nation, one world, one Cosmos that has been equipped does not stand in a position of being made one body together with one center. To put it another way, because all created things are beings that were made, it means that unless they stand in a position of being in accord with the central being who made them, that is, unless a complete center and a complete object are settled, the final world we desire cannot be manifested.
Therefore, we cannot but think that when we become the eternal object of that One who is in the central position and come to be in a position where we can bring that ideal to accomplishment, a relationship with God will not at last be formed.
If we ask what the wish was that the countless people desired who came and went bearing the mission of the Providence of Restoration in the long historical process until now, it was that the individual be made one body with Heaven. Next, it is that the family, expanding the standard of this wish, becomes one with God. But even though the family became one, it does not end with that.
After becoming the object of the absolute center, one comes to run up against the problem of having, from the position of a second subject, to lead one’s own clan and make it one body with the eternal center.
We know that the family that stood in such a position was Jacob’s family. When one says “Jacob's family,” Jacob’s parents enter into it, and Jacob’s brothers enter into it, and Jacob’s sons and daughters enter into it. God raised that clan to be equipped with one form of a people, centering on a foundation of some seventy relatives, centering on Jacob.
That was because, without forming the relationship of a Jacob who could be one body with the absolute God, a family that could become one with Jacob, and a clan that could become one with the family, one could not set up a standard by which the people could be made one body. Therefore, God’s finding and establishing an individual is to find and establish a family, and finding and establishing a family is to find and establish a clan, and finding and establishing a clan is to find and establish a people, and finding and establishing a people was to find and establish a victorious nation of Israel. We know well such a providential history of God.
What held the authority of a nation standing in place of the sovereignty of the heavenly kingdom upon earth is the nation of Israel, and what stood in the position of a chosen people selected by God, representing the whole of the world’s humankind, is the people of Israel. These two must become one.
In becoming one, one must become one centered on national territory, and for that the national territory must not be divided in two. In this way the land must become one, and it must become a citizenry that harmonizes with one another. And thus, one must achieve a sovereign nation that can become one with God. For that, God has conducted the Providence of Restoration for four thousand years.
We know that what He sought to accomplish in this way was the first Israelite nation. Israel wished to put the whole world under its command and lead it as it pleased, but we must know the fact that, seen in terms of providential content, it is not so; the nation of Israel vanished from the earth.
Jesus’ Mission
Then what should Jesus, who came in place of the nation of Israel, have done?
He had to be in accord with God from a position of having made the sovereignty of Israel and the people of Israel and the land of Israel into one body. In becoming in accord with God, even though Jesus stood in a position of leading the nation of Israel, that alone will not do.
Next, unless one is equipped with a number based upon a principled foundation and prepares a foundation of victory over the nation in a Cain-type position, one cannot return to God. This was Jesus’ position. We must know the fact that this was the mission of Jesus, who was sent to this earth.
One nation cannot sustain itself alone. A nation with a great enemy before it cannot sustain itself alone. In order for one nation to be sustained, it must cooperate with neighboring nations. One cannot but become one with the neighboring nations. And the development of one nation, too, comes about only by being equipped with the form of a federation.
It means that achieving Heaven’s world is likewise the same. However much an Abel-type Israel was equipped with a national standard, unless one makes the Cain-type national sphere submit and gathers it up, one cannot return. To put it another way, to appear upon this earth as Parents, Cain and Abel in Adam’s family must become one. In a position where Cain and Abel conflict, one cannot restore the Parents.
If one were to restore the Parents, it would not come about by Abel alone. It is the content of the Principle that only when Abel leads Cain can one restore.
That is why Jesus, who came to the Abel-type nation of Israel, must make the Cain-type nation submit. The larger the nation he makes submit, the more quickly the world is restored. This is the principle by which God has restored until now.
Then if, governing the nation of Israel, he made the Roman Empire submit at once, a road would open by which the world could be made to submit at one stroke; but when he cannot make it submit, it means a worldwide fight remains on the course of restoration.
But because the nation of Israel did not do this centering on Jesus, Jesus could not but fight worldwide enemies wherever he went and cross that pass. That is why the road Christianity goes is a road gone resolved upon death. You must know that.
Abel, Who Must Give Everything to Cain
The title of today’s Message is “The Starting Point of Restoration.” Then what is this “starting point of restoration”?
However much Israel became a nation that could restore the world, that nation alone will not do. You will know, through the Principle, the age of substantial restoration of Cain and Abel, that is, the substantial foundation.
Likewise, centering on the nation of Israel that has been found, one must make the Cain-type nation, that is, the archangel-type nation, submit. That is not done by armed force. We must know the fact that because Abel was killed by his elder brother Cain, unless one enters the position of dying, that is, the position of being struck, and does not die but lives and is equipped with a bond by which one can make them submit, the starting point of restoration does not appear.
That is why Jacob wished to offer his servants and all his property, found as the result of toiling for twenty-one years, before his elder brother Esau. When Jacob offered all his goods to his elder brother Esau, saying, “My life and property belong to my elder brother,” and saying, “I am my elder brother’s servant,” Esau accepted all of Jacob’s offerings. His receiving the gifts was his accepting Jacob, and accepting Jacob was accepting Jacob’s family, and also accepting the family was accepting the people of Israel, and the result of accepting the people of Israel was a sign that he could accept the nation of Israel.
To put it another way, it means giving everything before Cain and then finding it again. This is the principle of restoration. The positions of God and Satan are the positions of Abel and Cain.
So God has until now given everything to Satan. He gave to the individual, and gave to the family, and gave to the clan, and gave to the people, and gave to the nation, and gave to the world. He gave everything. He gave up to a position where one could say, “Do as you please with the world.”
So He gave up to a position where one could even deny God, could say that God is dead. It means He gave everything. So it means He was completely denied. What is the fact that this appeared in this history? It means that behind that complete denial there is inherently the appearance of complete affirmation. We must know such a fact.
It is likewise the same with the positions of a traitor and a loyal subject. In order for a loyal subject to be equipped with authority as a loyal subject, he must stand in a position of being completely denied. Only then can he take part in the rank of loyal subjects who can be revealed in the historical process.
Likewise, it means Jesus too must walk such a road of destiny. He must be completely denied. By whom? He is denied before the satanic world. Then what is being denied? It is handing over the whole. And yet, if one regards them as enemies or strikes them, it breaks apart. One cannot return.
That is why, what was it Jesus prayed hanging upon the cross?
He said, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do (Luke 23:34).”
That position of saying “forgive” is a position of handing over all of one’s own possessions to the enemy. It means that even if one dislikes it, it is made to be handed over.
Jesus, gazing upon the immediate handing over of everything precious brought from Heaven, of the nation of Israel found and established by paying the price of sacrifice through four thousand years of history, reached the extreme of indignation and mortification, but here he said, “Forgive their sin.” It means this was a strategy of handing over everything before the enemy and seeking one road by which one could find it again.
If one did not forgive their sin, there would be no road for the goods that had passed to Satan to return. Unless one opened a road by which they could be forgiven, one would completely lose the nation of Israel found and established through toil until then. It means one could not find what is called the starting point of restoration.
That is why Jesus, though he was in a wretched position, on the contrary, prayed for the enemy. This fact became one motive that could completely make the bonds of two worlds submit. One is that though God is in a position where He cannot love the enemy who made Him lose His original authority, a road was opened by which He could love; and the other is that a road was opened by which the enemies, who could not but perish, could revive. We must know that from here Christianity has developed.
The Road of Casting Away Oneself
Seen from such a viewpoint, if the road the Unification Church goes today is undoubtedly the right road, the road we go down is the same as that time. Just as God stood in a position of having everything taken away by the enemy and then finding it again, it means the road the Unification Church goes today is likewise so. It would be good if our Unification Church today were welcomed before this nation and these people, but if it became so, it would be a position of accepting the things of the satanic world just as they are. That is why here a matter of being denied cannot but arise. It means one of the two must deny: either Abel denies Cain or Cain denies Abel.
What that means is that even though the Unification Church was welcomed by some people, one cannot love those people just as they are. If one would love, only by going to another people and coming back equipped with a condition of being welcomed can one love the citizenry of those people's nation. Therefore, it means one cannot take a position of being welcomed by those people just as they are. We must know that because we were not welcomed, that is, because we were opposed, we came to stand in a position where, centering on the starting point of restoration, one can stand near before God and can be equipped on this earth with a historic bond of restoration by which one can stand together with God.
Then what was the history that came forth from such a position?
Seen in itself, it was a wretched history. It was a history of having lost everything. In any case, one must lose. Otherwise, it is made to be taken away. It means one must give. Just as God handed everything over to Satan, we too must hand everything over. From such a position, one must set up a standard of having completely found it again. Here a new bond of restoration is formed. Because going forth restoring centering on the original posture in this way is the road of the destiny of restoration, the road we must go today too cannot but unavoidably be a road of suffering. This is an exceedingly reasonable logic.
Then what must our selves do?
It means let us cast ourselves away of our own accord. In casting away of one’s own accord, for whom must one cast away? Because one must find this nation, it means let us cast ourselves away from this nation.
If Jesus himself had cast away his life by compulsion, he could not have become the Savior.
Of course, Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane,
“Abba Father, all things are possible to Thee; remove this cup from me,” but he said, “Nevertheless not as I will, but as the Father wills (Mark 14:36).”
Through thus crossing over the final road of death centering on the Father’s Will, from here the matter became different.
It means he cast himself away. It was not that he was sacrificed by compulsion by someone but that he sacrificed of his own accord. It will not do to be sacrificed by compulsion by someone rather than sacrificing of one’s own accord. Abel did not sacrifice of his own accord before Cain. He was sacrificed by compulsion. Because the position where Abel was sacrificed could not be a position of sacrificing with joy, but he was sacrificed with sorrow, the problem of restoration follows.
That is why, in restoring, it will not do by compulsion. One must deny one’s own self of one’s own accord. In whatever age, or even in the satanic world outside God’s sphere of providence, history likewise takes its direction centering on those people who go such a road. A conscientious person, a good person, a person who is forsaken by the multitude without any reason, and also a person who, though he is equipped with authority, does not exercise that authority and sacrifices without any recompense, such a person remains in whatever world. He remains even in the evil satanic world. He remains even in the good world.
When we pursue that position, it means it is a position of casting away oneself. You must know this. The road our Unification Church has walked too was such a road.
One Must Cast Away Beginning from What Is Internal
Then from where shall one cast away?
One does not cast away beginning from what is external. Anyone at all can cast away what is external. One must cast away what is internal. Needless to say, what is external, but one must cast away even what is internal.
Then what is the internal problem?
It is the relationships of the heart (심정) centering on oneself. Here one’s own brothers are the problem. How good it would be if one could take hold of one’s brothers and simply be restored? But it does not work that way.
How good it would be if one could take hold of one’s parents and simply be restored?
It does not work that way. How good it would be if one could take hold of one’s beloved wife and children and simply be restored? But it does not work that way. How good it would be if one could take hold of all the things one possesses and simply be restored? But that too does not work that way. This is the problem.
Here one must cast away externally and internally. If one does not cast it away, it is without fail taken away. Otherwise, God cannot work history. One must do one of two things: either I am cast away, or it is taken away. Because Abel stood in a position of having it taken away even though it was not a position he himself chose, God stands on his side.
We today too are in such a position. We, our families, our people, our nation, and our world, who stand on the road of destiny of having to go restoring, are placed in such a destiny. So even though one made the world one, the final problem remains.
How good it would be if I were a self who could simply enter that world that has become one and live happily?
How good it would be if, when it is said that the heavenly kingdom has come upon this earth and let us keep house in the heavenly kingdom, that could be so? But it means it is made so that it cannot be. Here there remain, without fail, conditions that must be settled. They remain inwardly and outwardly: outwardly there are that world and that nation and that people and all those things, and inwardly, centering on oneself, there are parents and a wife and children and brothers. These must be settled. It means that, otherwise, one cannot return.
That Jesus said to his mother, “Woman, what have I to do with thee? (John 2:4) was not something said as a passing remark.
Those words were serious words that settled his life and death. Though he loved his parents, he was in a plight where he could not love those parents just as they were. It means there is content that must be settled. How good it would be if one could take hold of one’s brothers just as they are and love them? But it cannot be. One must return to the original position and love. If one were to return, one must deny.
Jesus, hanging upon the cross, seeing his mother weeping, pointed to John and said, “Woman, behold thy son” (John 19:26).
To say such a thing to a mother who was weeping for him is something that could not be in the world. It means that John is her son, and he himself is not her son. Jesus did so because he well knew that he was not a self who could return and welcome his mother.
Immediately after Jesus’ resurrection, when Mary Magdalene, gazing upon Jesus who had been manifested, said, “Rabboni!” and sought to take hold of Jesus, he did not let her take hold of his body. Why was that? Because he had not yet stood in a position where he could settle accounts and meet her. Therefore, though Mary said, “Lord! I love Thee… In order for Mary to love Jesus, she had to pass through a process of self-denial and return to a position where she could be affirmed again.
It was natural that Jesus spoke such words to Mary, who had not returned to such a position. We must know the fact that Jesus, seeing Mary who had not stood in a position of completely casting away, could not but be so.
If I Do Not Deny, I Am Denied
From such a position, when we look centering on the problem of the starting point of restoration, our making the nation one today too is necessary, and making the world one too is necessary, and all are necessary. Furthermore, we are going forward, wishing that it may become so.
If one would do that, one must become one centered on God. To become one, the actual environment itself will not do just as it is. Even though there is a unified nation centering on God, I cannot simply become one before that nation. This formula remains.
That is why one must without fail part from the satanic world. One must part from one’s own nation, which is placed in the satanic world. One must deny all the material one regarded as most precious and loved, or the authority one took as one’s goal and pursued upon this earth, or everything one prided oneself on as a condition of glory. If one would not be denied, one must first deny. If I first deny, I do not receive Satan’s temptation. It means I do not receive the enemy’s attack. If the enemy attacks this, on the day he does so, the enemy himself is destroyed.
When we look at such a thing, the person called “I” today is an exceedingly simple being, but in the historical process he is one starting point. Only when you exist does your family exist, and only when you exist does the nation exist, and only when you exist does the world in which you can live exist, and also, it is through your existing that the universe exists. If you do not exist, everything is unnecessary. World restoration too is necessary, but what becomes the greatest problem is one’s own self.
Then, when we look centering on you as individuals, what do I love? What do I like? What do I want? When we set out, whether it is something external or something internal, does one not desire what is internal even in the world? It means it is parents and wife and children; to put it another way, the internal family.
So when it comes to standing in a position where the internal family suffers harm, one will cast away entirely whatever is external, however precious, and seek to protect this. Is this not the norm we know in the fallen world today?
Then can one, because this is precious, simply take hold of it and return?
The Fall was done through the lineage and came about through Satan’s false love. That is why one cannot simply return as one is. If one could simply return as one is, it would not have taken six thousand years.
If that could be, Jacob would not have gone a road of suffering. Grandfather Noah too would not have gone a road of suffering for a hundred twenty years. Jesus too would not have needed to die. Joseph’s family—that would have been enough. One’s own brothers, that would have been enough. A church would be unnecessary.
In order for a new nation to be built, there must be a new family. If it simply came about just as it is with that, that is, if the family too just as it is, and the clan too just as it is, and the people, nation, world too just as they are came about, how good it would be? That is what anyone wishes.
If it became so, it would mean there would be no need to do anything extraordinary. But in the course of restoration, it does not work that way.
If One Would Receive God’s Protection
That I who stand here today do this work is not because I am more worthless than anyone. It is not that I am reviled because I wish to be reviled. It is not that I do such work because I wish to. Because the road I go on is made to be so, I cannot but go; however, I would not go. This position is wretched. Though one’s own nation exists, one cannot love it. In our national anthem, there are the words, “Until the East Sea’s waters run dry and Mount Baekdu is worn away, may God protect and preserve us…” But does God protect? It means He cannot protect.
When one runs up against a greater enemy and fulfills the duty of loyalty and the duty of filial piety before God, one can receive God’s protection, but when one cannot fulfill that duty, it means one cannot receive protection.
If the Republic of Korea is struck by a greater nation, to put it another way, if it becomes the weak one and is struck by a greater enemy, God takes its side. Why is that? Because the priority of restoration is given to the side that is struck. Because Abel stood on the good side rather than Cain, God protects Abel. But when one cannot stand in such a position, I am struck. When the Republic of Korea does not stand in a position of being struck by the enemy, it means it is struck by Heaven.
Then when the Republic of Korea comes to stand in a position where it can be struck by the enemy, who must be struck? I must be struck. The citizens of the Republic of Korea must be struck. The citizenry must receive persecution for the nation. That people must receive persecution for the nation. It means that otherwise one cannot receive protection from God and cannot receive sympathy.
Seen in this way, within the people, within the family, and within the family, the individual must stand in a position of being driven to receive God’s sympathy. To put it another way, in the nation the people, in the people the clan, in the clan the family, in the family the individual must stand in a position of being driven. Why? Because God protects people who stand in a position of having a greater enemy before them.
From such a position, when we look centering on Jesus, Jesus appears alone holding worldwide content. Jesus held the thought that the world is together with me, the nation of Israel is together with me, the people of Israel, the clan, the family, even the people are all together with me. That was not conceptual. It means it was so, in fact. Before such a Jesus, if the family opposed, the family became the enemy, and if the clan opposed, the clan became the enemy, and if the people opposed, the people became the enemy, and if the nation opposed, the nation became the enemy, and if the world opposed, the world became the enemy. It means the greater enemy is the problem.
Accordingly, if one goes forth holding a self who can fight such an enemy, even if one dies while fighting, God becomes that person’s side until the nation, if it be the nation he confronted, perishes.
If he fought against the whole world, He takes his side until the world perishes. Because Jesus crossed beyond the nation and fought centering on the world, God takes Jesus’ side until that world submits. That is why Christianity became a worldwide religion in name and in reality.
What is being undergone in the Unification Church today is such a position. Those who grieve over such a position are people who block the road going to the world. Those who would flee such a position are people who avoid the road by which one can go straight to the world. You must know this.
The Awareness That God Is My Father
Even though we have at present been equipped with every environment, this is a means for tomorrow. It is not a means for today but a means for tomorrow. To fight a greater war, preparation is necessary. That is why it exists for tomorrow. A person who thinks it exists for today cannot cross beyond a world greater than that. To put it another way, he cannot settle down. It means do not settle down until God settles down.
The people of Israel supposed that God would send the Messiah from a standard where He had settled down and did not know that He sent him from a position of having to settle down. That is why they lost even the nation of Israel. We today must know this.
We are ones who have entered a road of destiny in which we cannot simply go as we are with the external things of the world. God is the Absolute Being, and that Absolute Being is our Father, and that Father is the sovereign of heaven and earth. Seeing this again, that Absolute Being is Father centering on me, and sovereign centering on the world, and Heaven’s center. That is why the noun “Father” is precious. What is in the nearest position by which one can integrate the spiritual world is that noun, and what is in the nearest position by which one can integrate the world is likewise that noun. What is in the nearest position by which He and I can be unified is, likewise, nothing but that noun. It means that in the spiritual world or in the physical world there is nothing nearer than that noun.
Then where is the human being? What is the Fall?
It is that God, the Absolute Being, and I did not become one. To put it another way, not becoming one with God, who is the center of the world, is precisely the Fall.
We must hold the conviction that says, “God alone is the Absolute Being.” Through Him human beings came into being, and through Him the universe came into being. That is why everything at all that opposes this must be removed.” One must hold such confidence. If one would hold conviction, there must be faith. If one would hold confidence, one must become one qualified to stand in God’s place. If one were to govern created beings in God’s place, one must hold a mind of love. Governing without love is impossible.
What was the motive of the Fall that the ancestors of humankind committed in the Garden of Eden?
It was centering on them. That is why they did not become sons in the position of God’s son and did not become daughters in the position of God’s daughter. So they received Satan’s invasion. Because they received the invasion, they lost everything.
If one avoids receiving the invasion, one becomes a son and becomes a daughter. That is why the awareness that says, “The absolute God is my Father,” must be stronger than Adam’s.
That Father is the center of the heavenly world and the center of the earthly world. Therefore, one must become one with that Father. Through that, I become one with the absolute center and become one with the absolute governor who governs heaven and earth.
The question is how one becomes aware of this. It means that before one clearly knows how absolute that value is, there is no way to settle accounts. One must have the awareness that says, “The value between the Father and me—how precious is that value! That Father is the sovereign of the world! That Father cannot be exchanged even for the world, cannot be exchanged even for the whole under heaven! I am that Father’s son and daughter! Undoubtedly a son and daughter!” To put it another way, one must stand in a position beyond that of Adam and Eve before the Fall.
And so, will not I, who have become one with such a Father, need a family that has become one together with such a Father? This is the original family. Furthermore, will not a clan in an absolute position be necessary, and a people be necessary, and a nation be necessary? This is the Will God wished for. But this reality today is the opposite. So one must return. Today we, as fallen descendants, have parents. We have brothers. We have a clan, a people, a nation, humankind. But that clan, that people, that nation, that humankind did not come from Heaven’s side. It did not set out from a position of awareness centering on the absolute God. It did not set out having formed a relationship with God in an absolute position. It set out from a position where God is anxious and sorrowful. That is why, to escape this sorrow, one cannot but deny all of this.
The Starting Point of Restoration Is Ourselves
Seen from a Principle viewpoint, how did Adam and Eve fall?
It is because they disbelieved God. So they did not become the substance God wished for. This is the Fall. Through whom did they disbelieve? They disbelieved through Satan.
Why did they not become God’s substance?
Because Satan held them fast. Because of what did they not have an opportunity to love eternally? It was because of deceitful love centering on Satan. Because you are in such a position, you must properly cut this Satan off.
Therefore, you cannot go the road of restoration while simply holding to some position or class in society, or the authority as a professor if a university professor, or the authority as a sovereign if the sovereign of that nation. One cannot but settle accounts with the relationship with Satan.
That is why the starting point of restoration becomes yourselves. So it must be resolved beginning from yourselves. Within that self, who must be present? God, the Absolute Being, alone must be present. It sets out from a position where one can attend to God, the central sovereign of this world. The question is whether this is firmly planted within your minds even though whatever of the world denies it. Otherwise, however much one denies it, that denial is false.
Only when one stands in a position, from the position of a son standing in place of the Father, of saying, “Becoming one with God is becoming one with the world, and the position of having become one with Him is a position where one can unify the world!” can one also deny.
If one denies from such a position, God will without fail sympathize. It means it will not do for you to deny while remaining just as you are. That is remaining just as one is in the satanic world. Doing so, it becomes entirely without relation to God. Therefore, one must deny from a position of awareness. It means one must deny manifesting God’s authority. Everything at all that does not accord with manifesting God’s authority must be denied. One must be able to say, “Any desire whatever in the satanic world, any power whatever, anything whatever one wished for oneself, I can deny! Such things are no problem at all!” If such things become a problem, one cannot receive sympathy before God.
Among those who today are said to believe in the Unification Church too, there are people for whom such things have become a problem. Young people say they have a sweetheart in the world and this and that; it means do not think such thoughts. That is worldly thinking. One must completely deny such things. Such things are not the problem.
Abel’s Responsibility
All of you, you must think. Who must carry out restoration? Abel must do it. Then what must Abel do? He must make Cain submit and restore him and must restore the Parents. If one cannot restore these two, one cannot return. What is Abel’s responsibility? Because Abel is the center, he has a responsibility to restore the Parents and a responsibility to restore Cain. Only then can one return. If Abel becomes one with Cain, the Parents are automatically restored.
And if Abel becomes one with the Parents, Cain can be restored. But it takes a long time. If Abel fights against the world, it remains as it is until the world’s fight ends. History is so. To give an example, Jesus is in Abel’s position, God is in the Parents’ position, and the world is in Cain’s position. Here the problem arises. God and Jesus must become completely one and stand in a position where they can make the world submit naturally. Jesus is always within the sphere of possibility of accomplishing the Will. That is why Jesus began to work in his thirties. That position is a position of making a new departure, a position of going in place of new people. Here, if Jesus were only equipped with an external foundation, that is, his family, the world would be automatically restored, centering on that family.
Why is that? Jesus is in a position standing in place of Adam, is he not?
So it means that next, if he were only equipped with a wife and sons and daughters and became one with God, the world would be automatically made to submit. But it means this too went awry and this too went awry. (He spoke while pointing after writing on the blackboard.) So it means God could not be together with him.
Jacob too was in Abel’s position. In order for Jacob to restore Esau, his mother’s cooperation was necessary. So he plotted with his mother and told a lie. Though he told a lie, because Jacob and his mother became one, he could restore even his father. Though Jacob was in a lonely position for twenty-one years, the parents always thought of Jacob. But the problem with Esau was not resolved. But when Jacob was equipped with a family, it was resolved. That is why one does it centering on the family.
God Himself, the Parent Himself, cannot do as He pleases. Through the human being’s falling, God is in a grieving position. It means He holds a grieving heart (심정). To put it another way, it means He is lamenting from a sorrowful position.
Then what must be done to restore this that has become so?
One must make the archangel submit, and brothers must become one with each other. Otherwise, restoration does not come about. In order for Jesus to accomplish God’s Will, he had to become one with the nation of Israel. In becoming one, he had to become one centering on the family. If that had happened, the nation’s being restored would have been a matter of time. Judaism too would have become one and come in. If it had become so, God would automatically have become the owner. But because a fight broke out here, Jesus too died, and this too perished.
If only this became one, the Parents would be restored. It means it will not do if the eldest son, who is in Cain’s position, says he will make the world his own. That is why God has until now set up Abel and had him inherit. When the degree of Abel’s sincerity is fulfilled, he comes to inherit. That is why the eldest son struck the heir (Abel) each time he sought to appear. This has been the background of history until now.
Then what kind of age were the sixties in the Unification Church today?
They are in an age of becoming one with God, centering on the family. It means that if only this is achieved, even though the Teacher does not appear, the Will goes on developing. Instead, it means loving the nation more than any sovereign of the nation if a nation is in the Cain-type world. It means loving the world more than any sovereign of the world. Then it means the world is restored.
What the Unification Church Must Do Today
Then, when we look centering on the Unification Church members today, what is it that is most a problem?
It is awareness concerning oneself. One must be able to say, “I have been born as a new son and daughter centering on God! Being born as this son and daughter cannot be exchanged even for the whole under heaven.
Therefore, I cannot go back and forth! Just as winter goes and spring comes, just as the seasons change, my mind cannot change! Though the four seasons change, I will not depart from the principle.” Though the external shape differs, in returning through the inner heart, the center, one must be like iron and stone.
What is the reason for denying oneself?
It is to deal with the object of attack that Cain can strike. This is the highest tactic among tactics. To put it another way, it means let us step forth before they attack. It means, having stepped forth, let us also become a model for them. It means let us be better than they. It means that being worse than they, restoration does not come about. That is why all the people who have set history right until now are people who fought to be better than the people of the age in which they lived. You must know that they are precisely the sages.
What is the work the Unification Church must do today from the present position of having welcomed the seventies?
When we look centering on the nation, we are in a position of having to unify North and South. There are also people who say the seventies are the age of unification. Then what must one do to unify? While taking an offensive against the North, one must at the same time hold a mind of shedding tears and praying for them. To put it another way, our selves must have a new awareness centering on God. One must attend to God as the sovereign of Heaven above, as the sovereign of earth below, as my Father. One must stand in a position of saying that I exist for Him and stand in place of that nation. When one comes to stand in such a position, that position is the same position where Jesus stood. That is, Abel’s position. It is a position standing in place of Heaven, a position standing in place of earth. It means an Abel-type position. Without such awareness, one cannot become Abel. If this purpose is brought to accomplishment, one can cross over everything without a problem.
That is why outwardly one must deny, from the world to the nation and even to the material one holds oneself. This is a formula. From the present position, one cannot love the nation. To love the nation, one must love it as one of Heaven’s sides, together with a new awareness. And one cannot but deny it. Only when one stands in a position of losing everything, even one’s own self, from the external position, can God love.
All of you, try praying. It means that when one prays and first receives grace, one does not even let one’s own mother meet one. There must be such a feeling. That there is such a feeling means one has drawn that much nearer to God.
Furthermore, even the husband or wife one has loved until then, when one has a spiritual experience, looks like a snake. It means that merely to see them feels unpleasant. It means such a thing is felt. That being felt so is not a bad thing. It means that behind it one knows one is drawing nearer to God.
Furthermore, whereas in the old days when one’s own sons and daughters said they were hungry, one would bring them something to eat and be so glad one could die, now it means one cannot bear to look at them. It means a mind arises that says, “You wretched child. Try being hungry.” Without feeling such a thing, one cannot welcome the day of liberation. That is why they say that if one enters the Unification Church today, the family is destroyed. Since such wives come in…
The Restoration of Love
The Fall came about through disbelief. Through disbelief, one lost the substance and lost true love. Then when we ask how many kinds of love there are, there are three loves: the love of parents, the love of husband and wife the love of children. These must be restored. These must be restored all at once. Then what happens when you enter a sphere where you can deny all such internal problems? It means one comes to feel, “I am God’s son and daughter.” One must feel that. One must feel it completely. It means one must feel receiving God’s love as a son or as a daughter. When such a period passes, next is the reciprocal relationship. The love of a parent and child, and the next one feels the love of husband and wife.
Therefore, what mission must Christianity carry out?
It must carry out the mission of sons and daughters, and next it must carry out the mission of bridegroom and bride, and next it must carry out the mission of a father. Though Jesus carried out his mission during some thirty years of life, his relationship with God was the relationship of parent and child.
Jesus’ some thirty years of life was a life that carried out the mission of a son. Next, it means Christian history until now is a history for finding the love of husband and wife. When the love of husband and wife is found, the love of parents is established, and after that love is established, one can love children in God’s place.
Seen centering on me, it means one goes up in reverse: the love of children, the love of husband and wife, the love of parents. It means that unless one feels such love centering on God, restoration does not come about. One must feel these three loves.
Then when we look at our Unification Church members centering on the Principle, though it is unfortunate for the men, what is the man? Because he fell, he is of the archangel’s rank. Then what is the woman? She is the archangel’s wife. That is why, if we would restore ourselves and go before God, we must go up to the position of Adam and Eve just before the Fall. If they had not fallen, what would happen? The archangel’s wife originally becomes Adam’s wife. Because marriage is not permitted to the archangel, it means he disappears. He becomes a servant. Do you understand?
That is why, upon merely entering the Unification Church, the husband comes to be thought of as an enemy. When the wife enters the Unification Church, it means the husband, from the archangel’s position, seeks to drag the wife down.
Furthermore, when the husband enters the Unification Church, it means the wife stands in a position the same as fallen Eve telling the husband to eat. Without passing through such a process, restoration does not come about.
But in what position was Eve?
Eve served two men. The position of serving two men is fallen. The wives who have entered the Unification Church are standing in a position of having to face two men. The man in the family is of the family; the man in the Unification Church is of the Unification Church… It means they are standing in such a position. Here one must decide where one will go. Who decides this? Who must decide for restoration to come about? All of you, yourselves, must do it. That is why, until now, people say this and that about the Unification Church. They make a great fuss with their fires burning. But all of you, try praying. It means trying to find out spiritually. It means that for men, if they only follow a wife who believes well for three years, they are completely saved. It means that if, for three years, standing in place of three ages, they only listen well to their wife’s words, they are saved. There is a saying, “If the hen crows, the household is ruined,” is there not? That is ruin because it is a hen of the fallen world. In the course of restoration, it is made the opposite. That is why it means that in the age of restoration the woman must crow.
The Duty of Filial Piety
It means that in the Unification Church the seventies are a time when the woman must do so. That can be known by looking from after the Second World War until the seventies.
If the woman is active, the man rises in the world. Is it not so even in the Republic of Korea?
Therefore, it means one must simply say, “My dear, I ask you.” These days, do men have market value? Even for a man, it is difficult to get employment anywhere. But for a woman, if only she were beautiful anywhere… It means it is all right even if she has not studied. For a man, even though he has finished university, they ask, “Which university did you graduate from?” But for a woman it means there is no such thing.
At such a time, in our Unification Church, a phenomenon unfolds of being chased about and suffering hardship to restore the Cain world, while in the world things unfold exactly in the shape of the Fall. In the Garden of Eden, such a thing happened when Adam and Eve were in adolescence, at the full age of sixteen. Just as they fell beneath the shade of a tree, it means the world becomes a scene of confusion. But we must set this order right. Because it is our mission to set order right from the aged through the mature and the young and even to the children, we are doing such work.
The moment you have entered the Unification Church, something feels strange in terms of heart (심정). It means one wishes to deny everything. At the same time as wishing to deny, it means one does not wish to take everything and give it to the satanic world but wishes to take it and give it to the Teacher. It means this is the same for foreigners and for Koreans alike. Otherwise one is not a Unification Church member. It means that if there is a good house, the thought enters that it would be good if the Teacher lived in that house. It means one’s own mind first becomes so. Otherwise one is not a Unification Church member. It means that without that it will not do.
Then if we ask whom one sets up through that mind, it is that one sets up the Father. In the Unification Church, the question is whether one can make people have awareness concerning the Father from an actual position, and it means that that can be so. It means that when there is something good, one thinks, “I wish I could offer that to the Teacher once…” It means such a mind must come out without one’s knowing it; such words must come out without one’s knowing it. That is what is normal. Then it becomes completely denying oneself. Satan seeks to have such a house, such a car, and so on for my sake. But it means Unification Church members are fundamentally different. It means an awareness that everything is done for the Father’s sake unfolds automatically from within. It is likewise the same with the nation. One must say that the best place, all such things, are not mine but the Father’s. This is the duty of filial piety. When such a thing is possible within the sphere of actual living of Unification Church members, the Unification Church does not perish. It means such a thing is awareness concerning the Father.
God is Father when we face Him directly, but in the spiritual world He is the sovereign. He is occupying your minds with infinite value and governing even your feelings of living. A person who can feel this is not a person of the satanic world but a person of Heaven’s world. That is, a person who is in a position of having completely denied the world of reality centered on himself. He is a person in a position of having denied even his husband, or his wife and children.
That is why among the aunties of the Unification Church there are also people who cast away their husbands and came out. The Teacher did not tell them to come out. Though the Teacher did not tell them to come out, they cast them away themselves and came out. Some people cast away their children and came out. It means there is a person who entrusted their child to an orphanage and came out. Because of whom is that? Is it because of the Teacher? It means it was because of them.
Because of whom is that?
Overall, it is because of oneself. It is the road one must go. It is likewise the same with the Teacher. I am a person who cast away beloved parents. When God told Abraham to kill his child and offer him as a sacrifice, Abraham did so. Then what would you do if you were told to kill your parents and offer them as a sacrifice? Then it means I lay down my neck and do it. Can there be such a law in the world? There is no such law. It means there is no such thing as seizing one’s child and offering him as a sacrifice. But it means one must offer one’s child as a sacrifice. Why? Because Adam and Eve disbelieved God and fell, to be forgiven for that, one must offer a sacrifice according to the Word. Even so, that is not casting away. It is saving both.
If One Were to Make the Starting Point of Restoration
The Teacher has until now held no concern regarding relatives. This is a frank confession. But upon entering the 1970s, my concern regarding relatives has changed a little. Even so, I am absolutely not a person who, because they are relatives, goes behind and shows them favor and such. But it means that upon entering the 1970s, I have a responsibility I must fulfill regarding the relatives.
Why? Because the direction of the fight has already changed. It is a time when one must move house. When one leaves one’s hometown, is it not the law of the world to go to the hometown and meet the relatives?
Now the Unification Church too has settled down. The seventies are a time of entering into the sphere of the Unification Church’s fortune. It means asking people who commune with the spiritual world. Whether it is so or not… As for why that is, there is no time to explain it now. It is made to become so centering on the Teacher’s family. I cannot explain all of that.
So it means that now one must save even the relatives. Until now, the Teacher loved you more than his relatives. Undoubtedly, it is so. In living until now, I have never once given any gift to parents, brothers, wife, or children. Though my mother devoted such sincerity to me until now, I did not even buy her one handkerchief. When members bought something for the Teacher, I gave it away, saying, “I must give this to another person.” One cannot help but lead a life according to laws.
I am a person who has done such things. I came out, casting away both parents and wife and children. So one must cast away even the nation. Because one says one will cast away the nation and then find it again, that nation opposes. It means that family opposes. Without going down such a road, one cannot find the starting point of restoration. Therefore, Abel must restore Cain and must restore the Parents.
If the Teacher has a responsibility today, it is that he must restore the Republic of Korea, and next he has a responsibility to attend to God in the Republic of Korea.
What must one do to carry out this responsibility?
To find what is greater as God’s own, one must cast away what is small. Unification Church members are the Teacher’s relatives. They are the clan. Is that not so? So it means one must not love the clan. I must strike you. It means you must toil. God has until now established the nation of Israel to find the Gentiles. Likewise, only when the Abel-type group restores the Cain-type group is the Teacher liberated. Is that not so? This is an unavoidable principle. Centering on such a principle, the circumstances of restoration are being woven.
Then from where does the starting point of restoration begin?
It is from Abel. Abel must restore the Parents and must restore Cain. Therefore, Jesus had to restore the nation of Israel and had to attend to God in the nation of Israel. Likewise, what is the Teacher’s responsibility? It is to restore the thirty million of the Republic of Korea and attend to God there. The unification of North and South is our responsibility. It is not the Republic of Korea that does it. Can the present government unify? It means it cannot. It means that hereafter it cannot be done except by the Unification Church. Why? Because God cooperates. We must unify North and South. If North and South are unified, an origin is prepared by which Asia can be unified.
The Abel-type individual, the Abel-type family, the Abel-type nation can without fail restore Cain and attend to God in that environment. Knowing that this is the starting point of restoration, you must apply this to your living and life. Departing from this principle, one cannot go before God. This is a formula.
Here it is not putting oneself forward. In every respect it is others… Because putting oneself forward and asserting oneself is the Fall, on the contrary, one must deny oneself and say, “Let God alone be present.” One must say, “Let God alone be the center of my individual self.” You are in a position of having to make Cain submit to centering on God’s heart (심정) and go. We must go forward centering on the starting point of restoration.
Let us conclude. Even though one can make the world one, before making that world one, one’s own self must become one. That is because, even though the world becomes one and I live within the sphere of that world, that world cannot form a relationship with me. Therefore, it means you as individuals must be born again in the Father’s bosom. It means that to be born again, one cannot but enter a position of denying everything.
Next, awareness is necessary. One must have awareness concerning oneself, awareness concerning one’s environment, awareness concerning the nation, awareness concerning the world. It means that in a position where, centering on such a new worldview, one has a new awareness and settles accounts with everything and crosses over, Abel’s position is settled.
If one has settled Abel’s position, one must without fail make Cain submit and attend to God. You must know clearly that through that you can become individuals who can go to the heavenly kingdom and can become individuals who achieve a heavenly family, a heavenly nation, a heavenly world, that is, the heavenly kingdom. This is the starting point of restoration.
