Let Us Raise a Beacon to the World

· Former Headquarters Church, Korea

Our Unification Church must, in the 1970s, lay not only a national foundation but even a worldwide foundation. That we must lay a worldwide foundation while passing through the third seven-year course is the conclusion seen in terms of providential history.

The Goal the Unification Church Must Achieve in the 1970s

Just as, if the Republic of Korea accomplishes the third five-year economic development plan, it will be equipped with a national system by which it can rise to being a middle-ranking nation, so the Unification Church too, when it passes through the third seven-year course, must be made to be equipped with a foundation centered not only on this nation and this people but on the world.

For that, one cannot but go forward with a standard beyond that of any religious body whatsoever. Whether seen in terms of the national situation or from a providential position, it must without fail be so. Therefore, to attain that purpose, we must make it so that this appears not merely in words but appears as fact.

For that, a driving force is needed that can make it so; and what is it that becomes that driving force? It is, first, a person grounded in a thoroughgoing thought. And then, centering on that person, the economic question is appended here as an additional condition. This becomes an important condition.

Then what is it that the present Unification Church has aimed at from the past until now? It is not to save the Republic of Korea alone. You must know that we have pushed the work forward with a far vaster goal than that. Just as our Principle is so, it means it does not remain within the limited sphere of the denomination called Christianity but holds a scope that can cross that boundary line.

Since our nation was liberated in the year 1945, it has already been twenty-five years by the count of years. So a full twenty-four years ago, when the Unification Church first set out, there was only one person. That one person is precisely this man standing here. At that time the Teacher held no authority. Nor had he borne responsibility for any church, nor was he bearing any responsibility in society. He was no more than one young man of twenty-five years. It means he was no more than one individual like you gathered here.

From that one individual, a question began to be raised. If one raises a question, in what direction is one to raise that question? If the Teacher had at that time gone forward, centering on a standard of national limits, the Teacher would probably have joined a political party. Or he would have gone out into society and gone forth to seek the Teacher’s own individual success. But because the Will the Teacher bore was not to remain within the sphere of national limits but to raise a greater worldwide question, he could not but go seeking the quickest road to this world.

Then is that road the road of gathering religion? No. Is it the road of pursuing knowledge? That would be possible after a fashion, but because it is in every respect a view from a human position, it cannot form any relationship whatever with the providence. Seen from this point, the road the Teacher determined is not a road that aims at material, nor a road that aims at power, nor a road centered on some scholarly ground of this world. Here the question emerges that God must, without fail, be involved. That is why one cannot but bring religion forward without fail, and this must without fail be gathered with religion as its foundation.

Even looking at the process of formation of the various nations of the world, because the historical background of each nation differs and the environment of the age differs, the national policies and policies they assert are all different.

Therefore, developing centering on an ideology based on the formation of each nation, or on national policy, does not cross the boundary line of one nation. It comes to hold no content whatsoever that can exert influence before a history that goes on forming a pan-cultural world.

We can know that, on the contrary, it brought about the result of being governed by a worldwide culture or by some other thought and thereby being governed even in what it had pursued as national policy until then, and that it did not become a motive.

What Is the Problem in Achieving God’s Will?

Then, when we consider the question of what course must be taken, we cannot but think that passing through the vast stage of religion is the quickest road. Then which religion among the many religions would such a religion be? Seen providentially, that religion must be a religion with which God can be together.

Then, when we look at religion, what is the Will God seeks to achieve and the world He seeks to achieve? The more one pursues that question, the more one can know that that world is not a world centered on material things. Why? Because originally the material world began from God, it means God does not need that world. It means God the Creator has no need of the material formed within the sphere centered on this earth. This is because God already possesses the vast material called the great universe, which is hundreds of millions and thousands of times the earth.

So such treasures as we, living on the earth, regard as precious and hold in high esteem, that is, gold and silver and jewels, are no problem whatever before God. It means this earth itself is no problem.

Then what is the problem?

The people living on the earth are the problem. One may say, are there not beings like human beings living on other planets such as Mars and so on? But it is not so. Human beings live only on this earth, which is less than a single speck of dust within this vast universe; and because such human beings live on the earth, this earth is a problem, and the material of the earth where human beings live also becomes a problem.

Accordingly, the logic cannot be established that God originally centered on a material standard and desired and hoped for that and carried out the providence upon this earth. This is because God is the owner who created the vast universe, and material factors fill this universe to the full.

When we think from this viewpoint, what is the single factor that becomes the problem? It is people. People were the problem. That is why the Will must be achieved through people. There can be no Will apart from people. So the question becomes where that person who must achieve the Will lives.

People live in the family, live forming a society, and live forming a nation and a world. It is living in the house as a member of the family, and living in society holding a social nature, and further living in the world. This world transcends the nation. Yet if, when asked, “Will you live in the nation or live in the world?” there is a person who says, “I will live in the nation,” that person comes to be denounced before history. That is why history until today has developed, centering on a worldwide purpose.

Furthermore, what kind of age is the present age?

It is an age of isms and thoughts. So for us until now, the question has been within which world system, based on some thought, that is, communism or democracy, one lives. When we consider such a fact, we cannot but think that to accomplish one purpose, human society must hold a means of broadening its foundation of living.

Then where must a person live?

He must live in the world. Why? Because it is a nation within the world, and a people within the world, and a clan within the world, and a family within the world, and an individual within the world. Therefore, you must clearly know that there can be no individual, family, clan, people, or nation apart from the world.

Within the world, a nation must be formed, and a society must be formed. Also, according to the purpose of the world, the social system must be put in order, and the family and the individual too must be in accord with that. There the ideal heavenly kingdom unfolds. Then will the heavenly kingdom be a place apart from this foundation on which human beings are living? Will it be a heavenly kingdom in the spiritual world, as Christians today think? By no means; it means it is not so.

Therefore, the question is how much content of living in accord with the world a human being has been equipped with upon the earth. That is, it means the question is how much one has contributed to the movement of coming into accord with the world in the aspect of heart (심정), or in the aspect of character, or in the aspect of action. There, the difference of character comes to be revealed in history.

What kind of people were the sages and wise men who appeared in history?

They are people who passed through a worthwhile course of life for the world.

When we infer from historical facts, we cannot deny that, according to whether the field of oneself that can be an addition to all people is broad or narrow, the difference unfolds in whether one becomes a historic sage or a sage of one age. In the end, the purpose comes to be living together with this world.

What It Means to Raise a Beacon

Then, the nearer the Last Days draw, the more must this world become?

Must one smash the present world and do away with it and make a world in which only some particular class can live? Such a world is not the ideal world. It means that the movement this world desires is not a movement to achieve a world in which only such a particular class can live but a movement to achieve a world in which all people can live. We can draw such a conclusion.

We must raise a beacon (봉화) to the world. To raise a beacon is to present a question. Until now, living together with the world has been by national units. You must know this.

Even so, the only thing that lies behind it is content by which it can assert that it wished to live together with the world is religion. Christianity ran forth, braving death to make the world Christian. It is the same with Islam. It has developed until now while carrying on a movement of globalization.

If the thought of Buddhism had come forth merely to assist a national purpose centered on India, Buddhism would already have disappeared. But because the content of the truth it asserts bore a worldwide character, though the nation perished, that content has crossed the limits of the nation and remained in the sphere of living of the world.

Therefore, what has developed historically as proportionally content that can conform to the sphere of living of the world are the four great religions of today. It is so with Buddhism and so with Confucianism.

What did Confucius teach?

He taught that for the sake of goodness and Heaven, one must sacrifice one’s own individual self. He did not deny Heaven and did not deny goodness (善).

Seen from this viewpoint, the organized body that holds behind it the capacity to live together with the world is the nation, and what is related to that is religion. So one cannot but say that the quick ground on which the questions of the world today can be presented is religion. That is why the Teacher himself appeared decades ago as a solitary figure to present such questions. But at that time there were no friends, and no comrades, and no one at all who was together with him. Yet in such an environment, together with what did he seek to live? He sought to live together with the world. He sought to live together not with a world of passing process but with a world that could remain eternally hereafter. The One needed here is God. When one comes to stand in such a position, the question of God’s heart (심정), or the true truth and true view of character that God presents, is established.

Now you will know the content of why Teacher Moon of the Unification Church, asserting such vast content, had, of all things, to come forth establishing a religion.

Then which religion among religions must it be?

First, in living, the question becomes centering on what one will live. A person who says he lives with money is finished. If there is a child who, though his father is about to die at once, clutches a bankbook with a million won deposited and says, “Even if my father dies, I cannot hand over the bankbook,” that child cannot remain in terms of human ethics. This is like the light of a setting sun that crosses the boundary line of the earth and vanishes farther and farther away. Such a person is not desired by humankind upon this earth. Money is not the problem.

Even if it is a house of a single room, if one’s own parent is about to die, it is the child’s duty to sell that house even at the cost of becoming a beggar and save and nurse the parent. When we look at such a question, money is by no means the problem.

Then are being old and being young the problem?

Suppose someone has a son in his twenties and a father and mother in their sixties; if one thinks of the point of being able to be more for this nation and these people, one would say, “It is proper to be only for the young person; the aged parents are going to pass away in any case.” Seen from such a position centered on profit, the parents will place all their hope on the young child and put their main strength here. But one cannot live by that alone. More than that, it is the person who protects the aged and is filial to his parents who is respected in the village.

How Must a Human Being Live?

It means that if some young couple bear sons and daughters and love those sons and daughters exceedingly, exceedingly, exceedingly, people do not envy them for that. Why is that? It is because that does not become a worthwhile life. That is why, when one faces the aged elderly, one must treat them as one would treat one’s parents. The flavor of a parent grown old who embraces a young grandchild and rejoices is a flavor of a special kind. There is a deep flavor that cannot be tasted in a world where only young people like one another.

When autumn comes, the time for harvesting the fruit draws near; and as the time when the fruit can be harvested draws near, secondary things such as stem and leaf droop, and at the very last only the fruit remains. When it becomes so, the true colors are revealed. It means that if one planted chestnuts, one would harvest chestnuts.

Likewise, they say that when a person grows old, he becomes like a little child, do they not? If a rumor spreads that some house is holding a feast, he says, “Aigo, I would like to eat the noodles I ate long ago when our son was married.” Saying, “They put in pork and spread oil and prepared such delicious food; that was truly tasty,” he sits in the room and pictures all the affairs going on in the village. Is that a bad thing? It is not bad but good.

If a precious boy has been born in that nation, or in that village, that nation or village has a responsibility to raise that boy well. It means there is a responsibility to gather all the precious things of the village and feed him and raise him. That is why, if a person who runs an orphanage representing that nation does so with true love, that person will raise a leader of that nation.

Were our grandfathers and grandmothers of a thousand years ago like little children, and are our grandfathers and grandmothers of today’s age not like little children? Are they the same or not the same? The grandfathers and grandmothers of a thousand years ago and the grandfathers and grandmothers of today are the same. Their shapes are all protruding to the east and west and south and north and flat and uneven and oddly formed, of ten thousand appearances, but it means their minds are similar. Therefore, young people must revere the aged.

What must be done for that nation to prosper?

One must inherit history. A person who likes the aged can inherit history, and in inheriting, one must receive it from childhood. That is why children like stories of old times. It is because children, compared to a tree, are the same as a new shoot and so must receive the historical sap just as it is, intact. Liking the old times connects with such a meaning.

If one says to babies who are crying with runny noses, “If you do not cry, I will tell you a story of old times,” they stop crying at once and say, “Tell it.” They truly like it. Apart from nursing time, that seems to be what they like best. Why is that? It is because they come inheriting history. It is because the reason of heaven and earth is made so.

Then what is most needed in a person’s living?

It is not money, and not the young, and not the old either. It is not that only young people are necessary and the old are unnecessary. Then what is it? The question is how one must live. Therefore, how must a human being live? One must live centering on a person who can live together with the world. That is the conclusion.

That grandchildren like their grandfather is because, rather than the grandfather scolding the grandchild because of his age, saying, “Hey there, you rascal, why do you behave like that?” he tells stories at length centering on worldwide content. At such a time, the grandchild seeks to lean on his grandfather’s back rather than on his father’s and mother’s, and when the grandfather goes somewhere, tries to take hold of his cane and follow, trotting along.

But if the grandfather says to the grandchildren, “You must grow up and become the richest man in this village,” the children will wish to get away from the grandfather. And if he educates them, centering on himself, saying, “When you make money later, first buy me ribs, and you must eat after I have eaten,” within a few days, no, within a few hours, they will keep their distance from the grandfather, saying, “Grandfather knows nothing but ribs.” Just try and see whether it is so or not.

But if the food eaten is millet and the clothes worn are like some shabby wrapping cloth thrown over one as one sits, if it be a place where a person lives who holds broad and endless topics of conversation centering on the world, saying, “Long ago when the household was like this, such a person lived in this way and this way and became thus,” it means the children in that place become excellent people.

Why is this? It is because a person wishes to live together with the world. It is because, though the ground where a person can live is today within the fence of the family, a flow of original nature that wishes to escape this fence and live together with the world is welling up without his knowing it. This flow of original nature cannot be blocked with material and cannot be blocked with today’s social systems either. The only way to unify it so that it can pass through unimpeded is living together with the world.

The Life of Jesus and the Life of John the Baptist

Then how did Jesus become a worldwide sage?

Jesus, who went about with fishermen on the shore of Galilee, is a cousin of a fisherman. And not even a true cousin but a stepcousin. Jesus, having no other recourse, placed his hope in Peter and James and John and went about with them.

When the Teacher traveled all over the nation of Israel, it was a very desolate place. What was good about it? That it was called the promised land of Canaan flowing with milk and honey was said because, in speaking greatly of God’s blessing, it came to be said so. Though one travels all over Israel, there is no place flowing with milk and honey. There was not a single place to which one could feel attached.

Thinking of the hymn that says, “In a few days, in a few days, I shall cross the Jordan and meet him,” I went with expectation to see what the Jordan looked like. When I went and looked, they said there was some place where a dragon had risen and told me to go in and see. But it was all a desert region with nothing but sand.

Come to think of it, the land of Korea is far too good. Wherever one goes, there is good soil and green meadow, and clear water flows. Then if Jesus received baptism even in such a place as Israel, why can one not receive baptism here in our Korea where clear water flows? You will certainly ask this.

Though now the nation of Israel has done irrigation works and made some green meadows with trees and grass, what could the state of things have been two thousand years ago in Jesus’ day? The place called the Jordan River at that time was probably a place where ducklings played and muddy water splashed.

Into that place went John the Baptist with a strange appearance, wearing clothing made of camel’s hair with a leather belt fastened. Think of that figure once.

What money would John the Baptist have had?

Was there anything to look at because of an unusually fine physique?

Since he spent thirty years in the wilderness eating only locusts and wild honey, what must his appearance have been? His beard would have grown as it would, and his hair too would have been long, as it pleased. Even looking at the hair of women who have lain sick in bed for a few days and risen, is it not disheveled and unsightly? And since there were no good combs in that age as there are today, he could only have smeared it with water.

If I speak like this, you will say, “Aigo! Speaking that way of what appears in the Bible, is that not denying it?” One would be denying it if one spoke of what is not fact; what denial is there in speaking of fact? I mean, what must his state have been?

Since such a John the Baptist said, without any explanation, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand,” he could not but be treated as a madman. Who would have followed him upon hearing those words like a bolt from a clear sky? Think about whether adults followed him, whether gentlemen followed him.

Would the scribes who were in the so-called high positions of that nation have followed him?

Would the priests who went about in holiness wearing cloth woven of cotton thread with scripture verses written on their garment cords have followed him? Would such people have followed him saying, “Oh! Holy John the Baptist”? By no means. It would have been only the village dogs and the runny-nosed children.

It is so in Korea too. When a taffy peddler comes clacking his shears and calls, “Cheap pumpkin taffy for sale,” people gather. They gather because they want to buy and eat and at the same time want at least to watch. Among those who gather, the village dog comes and goes first, and next the children come.

If one thus goes about the marketplace streets, what kind of band would the band that follows the taffy peddler be? Would they be God’s holy sons and daughters? It means they are not.

If we look at the Bible, Jesus said to his disciples,

“Unless you become like little children, you shall by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Why was that?

Because John the Baptist came forth and then Jesus came forth, the words, “Jesus, John the Baptist’s cousin, comes forth again, comes forth,” followed him every day. Because Jesus was in such a position, he spoke such words. That is how I see it. What of it? It is an apt statement, is it not?

When Jesus proclaimed, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand,” and came forth, the people of Israel said, “That one too is like John the Baptist’s crowd. A half-madman appeared, and now a real madman has appeared,” and called him one possessed by Beelzebub. That Christianity has passed through a road of harsh suffering until now is all grounded here. Since there would be no end if one told such stories, though there is much to say, let us stop now.

What Differs Between the Teacher and You

Then in living, centering on what does one live?

If parents educate their sons and daughters centering on themselves, saying, “You and I must not be parted,” that family perishes. But a family that educates them so as not to be parted from that society, that nation, prospers. It becomes so.

If one gives such education as, “Since I do a butcher’s work, you, my child, too, must do a butcher’s work,” or, “Since I am a merchant, you too become a merchant,” one perishes.

Any parent teaches his child, “You must be for the nation and become a great figure of the nation,” does he not? So today is a time when the world draws near before our eyes. It means the age of teaching, “Become a figure of the nation,” has already passed. Now one must educate, saying, “You must become a worldwide figure.” Do you educate so, or not? It is made to be so. Live together with the world! Because I know what your psychology is, I draw such a conclusion.

Just what kind of person is Teacher Moon of the Unification Church?

As I see it, my height is enough at this much, and even reckoning my weight, I consider it above the average of the thirty million populace; so why must I lead such a dreary life? I have never once until now had the thought of losing, whenever and wherever, with whoever and at whatever I do. Why does such a person keep still even while being reviled? This is a question worth studying once.

Among those who came to the Unification Church for the first time today, there may be some who have seen me, but most have only heard by rumor, and not many have actually seen me. Those who have come here for the first time today look well. I am that man called Teacher Moon. It is not that I have two noses, nor four ears, nor two mouths. I speak Korean words and eat Korean food. It means I drink Korean water too. Also, my feelings connect with those of Korean people. All is the same. Then what is different? What could be different? Eating rice in the morning and going to the outhouse in the evening is the same too. It means there cannot be anything different from you.

Then just what is different?

Are my eyes more prominent than others’? Am I handsome? What is the use if only the signboard is good? If only the outward appearance is showy and there is no content, the character of fraud is thick. Seen from that viewpoint, it means that if there were no content in the Unification Church, Teacher Moon could also be the supreme chief swindler who could remain long in the world’s history of fraud.

I say such things because a good deal of time has passed. I will speak for several more hours hereafter, so let those who are busy quickly go while there is this interval. Those who are busy may go. Even so, I am not compelling you.

Whether I do track and field or any other sport, there is no sport in which I do not place in the rankings. It means my body is as healthy as anyone’s. I will tell one impressive story. Last year, when I was preparing to leave the country to travel the world by way of America, I first had to go to the hospital and receive a physical examination. When had I ever been to a hospital? However much I think of it, I have no experience of having been to a hospital.

That hospital doctor was still a famous doctor in Korea. He was such a person as had been President Rhee’s personal physician in the days of the Liberal Party. That doctor said he would test for beriberi and told me to go up on the examination table and raise my leg. When a doctor says to raise the leg, a person who has come to the hospital naturally supposes the order is so and follows along, having watched others being examined; but I, not knowing well, simply stretched my leg straight out. Then that doctor was quite a masterpiece. He said to the person who had gone with me, “Please hold the leg,” and then gave the leg a good round of striking. How hard he struck!

How embarrassing that is. But I was not embarrassed at all. A person who is skilled at falling ill and coming to the hospital and being examined is close to being a dropout in human society. However much he examined, there could be no illness. When the doctor finished the examination, he said, “You are Mister Korea.” Those words were impressive.

If I sought to become Mister Korea or a champion in some other field, it would not be hard. Seen from the front I look small, but seen from the side I am big. Even in wrestling, Teacher Moon of the Unification Church is first. It is true. Though I am now advanced in years, even if I stopped the work I am doing and stepped forth, I could do anything. I have done all sorts of labor. Though I may look stiff to you, in fact it is not so.

Seeing such things means I hold the aptitude to do anything if I say I will do it. My head is good too. If I open an English vocabulary book and read ten or twenty pages just once and then hold a contest of memorizing many words, no one can match me. I hold such a record. That much means I would not fall into the failing class.

Furthermore, because my application is at a considerably extraordinary stage, I am truly quick. All of that became the motive by which I could set out seeking the Principle.

But I am not satisfied with that alone. Centering on a reciprocal relationship here, the viewpoint differs according to what influence it exerts upon one’s surroundings. Seen that way, even if the Teacher had not become the founder of the Unification Church today, he could have carried on activity in society second to none.

These days, being considerably heavy at heart, I went to the mountains every Sunday; and once it was a fairly cold day. Having climbed the mountain with effort, I came down to the foot of the mountain and came to eat lunch near three o’clock. When the women of the Unification Church brought and set down the food they had made with sincerity, there was appetizing kimchi there. Being too hungry, I ate that kimchi without thinking, without even considering that my stomach was smarting. Being hungry, I ate a great deal.

And then, coming home by car, whenever the car jolted, my stomach was so uncomfortable that it was terrible. So I thought this might become an upset stomach and thought that after a while it would be all right, but it continued the same. At that time, the person who had gone with me laid me down and said he would test my blood and pricked my ear a little with a needle and then said to me, “Your vitality is vigorous.” Such an experience becomes a source of vitality for living.

But because that person emphasized, “It is not good if the body keeps gaining weight, so one must be careful,” these days I keep exercising. All of you, do you approve of my exercising? “Yes.”

My method of exercising is hunting. If I go to the mountains for just a week or a fortnight and come back, even a belly as fat as this becomes slender at once. So please grant me a vacation. I ask that you take responsibility so that the Unification Church can develop and our body can develop without my being anxious. I ask that you let me go about the mountains hunting and take off some fat from my belly.

Why Do I Lead Such a Life?

Seeing such things, for what have I been doing this shabby work in the world all my life? Why have I lived like that? As for being dragged about, I was dragged about from the days of Japanese rule. But I seek to forget even having been seized and put into prison.

Even now, because the Unification Church continues to grow, many crowds hate it and are sick with envy. They know that if Teacher Moon merely gives a command, you will go without minding even death. It is so with the Japanese crowds too. It means they all know. In that sense, we are second to no group in the world. As a person who holds many people who, as those now living, can step forth with a glad mind at God’s command, I mean I am first. If you asked me to be second, you would grieve.

Then why do I live like this?

Jesus, two thousand years ago, was in a wretched position, and John the Baptist too had crowds following him who were of no account; how did they become historic figures? It is because they sought to live together with the world. Which world? They sought to live together not with a perishing world but with a world of hope. That is, because they presented before all people a new world, a new heavenly kingdom, a new sovereign, a new ideology, a new character, a new view of living, and so on, they could become historic figures.

Likewise, because I too introduced before all people an inner content by which one can live together with the world, I have become what I now am. This is a fact you cannot deny. That the Teacher has lived until now in this way is likewise to find a road by which one can live together with the world.

Jesus was in a position where he could well have not died. Then why did he offer an earnest prayer through the night in the Garden of Gethsemane? If he had watched for a chance and slipped away to the side, why would he have died? Why die, I say.

But Jesus prayed, “Not as I will, but as the Father wills.”

With a mind that said, “I know that the Father wishes to live together with the world. But for the sake of the world, for the sake of the world and the nation, or for the founding of that nation, countless people must be sacrificed; so must there not be one representative who can be sacrificed in their place? I too, from my present position, have a mind that seeks to escape the road of death. Yet I know that the figure the Father is seeking is myself.

So must I not become one sacrifice who can comfort the Father?”

Jesus said, “Not as I will, but only as the Father wills,” and stepped forth, volunteering for death.

That was stepping forth, raising the flag of victory by which one can live together with the world. You must know that he raised high a new beacon.

Then for what did he raise the beacon?

He raised the beacon for the world. If he had raised the beacon for the people, when those people came to perish, that beacon would have vanished in vain; but because he raised the beacon for the world, it means that beacon is the same as the world. That is why, though the nation of Israel was lost, Christianity, expelled from the nation of Israel, laid a worldwide foundation by way of Rome and all of Western Europe.

Because in Christianity there is involved a thoroughgoing ideological movement and content by which it can go to the world, it did not perish by any people’s sphere. It did not perish even by the nation of Israel and Judaism. On the contrary, it means it trod upon the perishing of the people of Israel and rose above it and established a footing by which it could broaden a ground of harvest in the world.

Why did that become so? How can one become one with the world?

The more one holds content that can present such questions as how to draw nearer to the world, the more one can without fail gather the world hereafter. That is why Jesus presented precisely a new worldview. Furthermore, he presented a new view of the universe, presented a new view of life, and presented a new view of living.

So an ideal is drawn by that, and a better eternal view of value is established by that. Because Jesus lived there and died there, it means he lives above history and remains above history. Therefore, the conclusion emerges that in every meal hereafter, one cannot but center on him.

In What Position and How Would the Unification Church Live?

To put it another way, it means one cannot deny that the questions of how great a measure and content and scope one held, by which one could live together with the world, and how deep a content one held, by which one could live close together with the world, become the inner material that can determine the historic sages. Do you understand?

Well, does it seem so, or does it not seem so? Madam here, does it seem so, or not so? This is a tremendous statement, is it not? One cannot even manage one’s own household properly and now barely lives or does not live centering on one’s own husband, and one lives together with the world? Is the fact not so? They will say, “She cannot even attend one grandfather of the village now; what religion is she believing in and living by?”

That is why the Unification Church has been enduring until now, and in enduring, one endures from there. Even these days, because we keep developing, they oppose as though they would kill us. And yet they collapse first. It is not that I keep still because I have nothing to say. “You oppose if you will. We advance.” Thus we advance, standing on the side of righteousness.

So on the day when, at some time, we confront them, and they bow their heads, one must present a condition of indemnity of victory. The greater the banner of revolt raised against us, the more there comes to be content by which one can lift history and block them, so with that we build a wall and step forth.

So how would our Unification Church live? It is to live for the world, together with the world. This is such a unifying view. If one looks for a body that seeks to live together with the world, there is nothing but a religious body. Is that not so? Christianity says, “Love your neighbor as your body.”

Then in what position must one live to live together with the world? Even the president of a nation works eight hours as president. It means he lives outside only a third of the day. Is that not so? Then where does he live the other two-thirds? He lives in the house, that is, in the family. But if the president goes right into the room and says, “Oh madam! I am the president,” acting as he did while giving orders outside; will that do? Does that get through? Do parents say to their children, “Hey! From now on, if you study for several decades, you may become a minister of this nation. So you must pass through that course and repay me”? No. It means that in the end, one must live centering on the family.

Seen from this viewpoint, the only religion that even so has appreciated and pursued the dream of the family finely and deeply is Christianity.

Jesus said, “I am the bridegroom, and you are the bride.”

What is one to do with that bridegroom and bride? Is it to fight? Is it to wrestle? What is one to do?

What is love? It is to live together. Love means to be equipped inside and out and live together. And in living, it is not that the two run away and live by themselves, but to live worldwide. Is that so, or not? “It is so.” You will not be able to deny that. There is no one who can judge that. In living, how shall we live? One must live worldwide.

If there were a person who lived so, then merely by his moving about, all nations and three billion of humankind would follow behind him, saying, “Where will you go?” All of you, it feels good even to think of it.

Jesus’ Thought and the Family He Pictured

Then what is Jesus’ thought?

Jesus required one model, one foundation, one form. That is, it means he required a specimen. What kind of specimen is that? It is a specimen the world desires and a specimen history desires. It is a specimen that can be established as a center we can never forget, even into the future. It is, among specimens, the only genuine article, and among genuine articles, a genuine article that is a little longer.

Which is the genuine article?

Between one that is a little longer and one so long that it would take about three days more to traverse, which is the genuine article? The longer one is the genuine article. To the measure of its length, once one goes in there, one does not know how to come out. It means one does not wish to come out. It means one wishes to be in there eternally.

Do you know what bees are like? Have you raised them?

Long ago our house raised a great many bees. If one prepares a hive at the house, the bees go about from place to place where flowers bloom according to the season and gather honey and store it all there. In shaking out the bees to take out this honey, when those bees are in the middle of eating the honey deliciously, even if one pulls their tail ends from behind, they keep eating.

If one pulls, they brace themselves and cling fast to the hive. If one pulls, saying, “You rascal! Come out,” they brace as though saying, “You go out. I will not go out.” Finally, even if the body is snapped in two, they do not know it and go on sucking away oblivious. No one will know such a flavor.

Have you tasted a flavor stronger than life?

Have you tasted such a flavor, or not? If you have not tasted such a flavor, it means you are a fake. You are a fake person. Though such a flavor exists, if you have not tasted it, you are a fake person. But if you had tasted such a flavor, would you not go to taste it because you would lose your life? Even the bee knows that flavor and says, “I do not care,” even if it is killed.

What is the use if a person lives a hundred years?

These days there is a saying, Do not live thin and long but live thick and short, and that saying too is not empty. It means that once one tastes that flavor, it is so.

What is the use of living a thousand or ten thousand years?

If there were a position where, though one lives but once, one could say one has lived a thousand and ten thousand years, one would just leap the whole distance at once. You know the movement of a flea, do you not? Like a flea, leaping all at once, it means that whereas before it took an hour or two, now let us go and come instantly. It means there is a flavor that can be so.

Then who would be the one who most pursued the love of a man and woman that produces such a flavor? For a full two thousand years the believers have waited, saying, “Jesus, come!” And just what kind of nest is the nest that bridegroom, who has still not come, dreaming of? What kind of family would the family Jesus pictured be?

In the Bible it is recorded,

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

But if one obtains eternal life merely by believing, that is a fake eternal life. Which do you desire more, obtaining eternal life by living together or merely believing? If the bridegroom is away in America, have you seen a woman who says, “It feels perfect just to see his photograph! Is it fine if he does not come”?

Likewise, the question is which is better, believing in Jesus and living, or living together. Jesus had to have a bride who believed in him and followed him, that is, a bride who lived together with him. Without that, Jesus does not attain his purpose. That is why he must seek a bride. Where? He must seek her upon the earth. Such a conclusion emerges.

Then what kind of family is that family?

This is what one is curious about. Is that not so? “Yes.” You do not know that, do you? However long one has lived in the world and however white one’s hair, what one does not know one must learn. Will you learn from Teacher Moon of the Unification Church, or not? Those who say they will not learn, pack your bundles and go early. Let only those who say they will learn remain. You ought rather to worry that I will not teach you.

Then what is the family Jesus pictured?

It means that family is a family in which, together with the individual, you and I can truly become one. It is not a family that lives centering on itself but a family that lives together with the world. Further, it is a family that lives together with heaven and earth, with the Cosmos. That is why the humankind of the world today says, Let us go to a place where I can live together with the world.

The Mission of the Unification Church and Its Greatness

Today the Unification Church speaks of Cosmos-ism. Then what is that Cosmos-ism? It is to live together with heaven and earth.

If I say such a thing, you will say, “My! This is impressive enough, but it is preposterous talk.” What of it? Is it dreamlike talk?

The Unification Church would pursue a world one stage higher than the established churches. If the established churches go forth bearing a plain character, the Unification Church would go forth bearing a three-dimensional character.

Then which is greater?

If I speak this way, I may be said to be praising myself, but which is greater? Between the Unification Church and the established churches, which is greater? The Unification Church is greater. Cosmos-ism is greater. The Unification Church says, “Let us live together with the Cosmos.”

That is why our Unification Church must bring to completion the mission of three ages. It is to liberate the spirits who have gone to the spiritual world, to liberate the people living in this sinful world today, and to liberate from here the people of later generations to come as well. Thus we come forth holding the authority of liberation of three ages.

This is a vast and tremendous matter. What will happen if such dreamlike content appears as fact? Eyes will grow round, mouths will fall open endlessly, and ears will prick up, but there will be nothing for it but to bow the head.

I have never yet seen a person who runs with his waist held stiffly upright when he is running somewhere quickly. All run with the waist bent. What the Unification Church is now doing is not going to watch something. We are running at a rapid pace. Because we run, people say the doctrine and words of the Unification Church are good, but the method of going is wrong. When they try to follow that road, their legs feel as though they will split.

But why is that wrong? It is because it differs from reality. But we must go with a worldwide stride. If we perish by living like this, cut off my neck. If we perish though we lived so, it means there is no God in the world.

Why is that? It is because I live together with the world. That is why the road that the person called Moon of the Unification Church walks is a road of living together with the Republic of Korea as a person of the Republic of Korea. This is what is fine.

Then why do I seek to play the part of a one-man army?

It is not that I am a one-man army; it is only that, because I know first and do what the world does not know, I look like a one-man army. That is why, wherever I go, they call me an enemy. When I appear somewhere and do something quietly, it always becomes an issue. And that too became something by which all the established bodies until now could be broken, and so we came forth receiving threats.

Hereafter, a fierce wind will beat upon the Republic of Korea from the world. At first they too came forth favorably. But it is all right even if it is I alone. I will fight facing that wind. I mean, try once making an embankment here and blocking it. It will fly away at once. That cannot be blocked. When one thinks it is spring with a favorable wind blowing, a typhoon will blow. A current of decadence will beat upon us.

Then at that time, how great will be the blow the government of the Republic of Korea receives? Do you have the confidence to block the wave breaking upon Asia? Do you have the confidence to block the situation crowding in from the world? If you have, then try blocking it. But you cannot block it. Because I know this, it means I endure while being driven and chased. Do you understand? “Yes.”

You at present are pitiful people. Because I know that, I sympathize. But the more so, the more diligently you must work. You are the same as orphans. You have no historical comrades, no friends of the age, no supporters of the future. Yet since you have made your supporter the God who exists as the owner of history, the owner of the age, the owner of the future, it means you do not need to worry.

If One Would Move History

If there is one person who lives together with the world God purposes, God is together with that person. He participates in the work that person does and dwells together with that person and goes together with that person toward the destination.

That is why the Unification Church comes forth volunteering for a road of being reviled. Because that goal is distinct, we have endured and fought for more than twenty years until now, knowing such a road as a matter of course. Even now we are advancing toward that goal, so the conclusion is that one who lives together with the world does not perish. Jesus too, and many sages and wise men of history, spoke centering on such content, and lived centering on such content, and lived out their lives centering on such content and departed. A person who lived and departed so moves history.

Therefore, your becoming ones who can move history becomes moving this world, which passes through the process of the ages. That things come to be gathered into the world of purpose God desires is because, as long as God exists, that is the principle of heavenly reason, and so, grounded upon that principle, one can strike the world. Accordingly, it is a matter of course that we work for humankind with the Principle.

The Unification Church is dispatching missionaries to about twenty nations.

Within this year, we will dispatch missionaries to forty nations. However much the Republic of Korea opposes, we will do it. Is what I am doing wrong? Until now, I have proven that it is not wrong. That is why I embrace such a history and go forward.

When I first came forth centering on the church, I came forth begging for food. Of course it was an appalling position, but I was never ashamed. When this appears as the result of a life of decades, the thought I have left behind, standing in such a position knowing Jesus’ Will, will without fail fulfill the mission of a subject thought in the historical ages hereafter. This will be established as a beacon that can set fire to the breasts of countless young people. I move forward hoping for that.

Even though you are selves who receive criticism before history and are denounced by history and, seen by Heaven, block the course of a thousand years, you must be equipped with such a condition of indemnity and go, within the Unification Church whose foundation the Teacher has completely laid, being equipped with the figure of a victor. You must know that there is such a thing as unification thought, such a thing as Unificationism. It means you must not become a person who vanishes because of a trifling small wave.

Though the road we go to live together with the world is the road of unification, we did not know God’s strategy of seeking to develop beyond the world and welcome a day of victory. But having walked for decades, the time has come when we can keenly feel that a worldwide Will, a worldwide heavenly fortune, has arrived at our very door today. Now, once 1970 passes, we enter a grave period. Do you understand?

By 1974 the second seven-year course ends. Within that, we cannot but lay a worldwide foundation in name and in reality. The Teacher holds this to 1973. This is the wave of providence. In the 1960s, the Unification Church had to pass through a seven-year course and lay a national foundation. At that time we could lay all of that.

Until now, many people have not understood the Teacher’s carrying out such an operation today. Some people say, “Since the Teacher has gathered much money too, he ought at least to hold a feast with rice cakes for the lonely and the members; what is this?” And they say, “I truly did not know it would be so. He is a person who would not shed blood even if his finger were injured, a person without moral obligation who would not blink an eye even at a beggar.”

Of course, when I plainly see those who pledged to live for the people and the world undergoing difficulty, the Teacher’s mind too aches. I have until now overcome an environment of tears and, following this rugged road, passed ten years, twenty years, and before I knew it, invested half a century of life for the world. But when one asks whether this is not the normal course for completing the responsibility, though it took unspeakable effort in going this road, and there were many side effects in that process, and many hands of all sorts of temptation, and though hereafter too there are many roads of suffering of all sorts, one must go.

This Road Is the Road That Saves the World

This road you go is not a road you go for yourself. It means it is not a road you go for your glory. Therefore, on the day you fail to walk together with the world and go awry, you perish.

It is the same with the Unification Church or with the Republic of Korea. But if the Republic of Korea, on such a standard, holds a new thought by which it can go together with the world, it means it becomes a nation of first awakening (선각국) and leads the world. Do you understand? “Yes.”

It is not that the person called Moon of the Unification Church has until now done this work lacking the wisdom to judge about that. Though it seems he does it merely blindly, he carries on a worldwide movement centering on such a view. It is living for the world with the standard Jesus established at the bank of the Jordan.

Therefore, the question is who indeed will be able to shed blood and sweat in my place and welcome that day, saying, “Come quickly, one day when God the Father can be liberated,” when I am wounded or become a body that cannot move.

Because the world must be saved first, the Unification Church today passes through a worldwide course of indemnity. Through that, it means we were able to make the world fit our course and drive it before our knees, that is, into the sphere of our footing.

If the Teacher had passed the long span of thirty years having set up a purpose and ambition according to his will, it would have been out of the question. Had it been so, all would have perished.

The women of the Unification Church will have a mind that likes the Teacher.

Well, do you like him? “Yes.” It means women simply say they like. Even when doing some work, if one does it for the men first, the women sulk and say they will not do it. That human beings feel is because of women. What the Teacher of the Unification Church suffers is also because of women. It means it is considerably distressing.

Where is Satan? It is not that Satan exists separately. Satan begins to arise from me. If one is for oneself, one is Satan. It means that if one is greedy for oneself before the Will, one is Satan.

The Teacher’s Principle

Then people will say, “Because you have become the Teacher of the Unification Church, you have to fit that so you can speak so; and because you guide the whole Unification Church, can you not speak so?” But by no means. When I pray before God, do you think I pray as the Teacher of the Unification Church? It means it is not so. Rather, the Teacher’s principle is to seek, as far as possible, to set all of you before the Cosmos, before the world. It means the more you leap high over me and become one, the better.

However much you think and come to realize thousands of years of history, the Teacher has the confidence to go without losing to anyone. On the road the Teacher goes, you must dance. When it becomes so, since it governs two worlds, it means that even if one perishes, one perishes later.

Furthermore, if one is victorious, both are victorious. This is a safe strategy. God has been unfolding such a strategy. At first Satan rejoices and dances, saying he has won, but eventually he collapses. So it means, endure just a little.

These days, because I come out and sit in front, those who come for the first time think that man is probably the Teacher of the Unification Church; but in the old days, even when one came to the Unification Church, one did not know whether I was the Teacher of the Unification Church. How would one know? Since I sat together beside them.

Western people, especially many journalists from America, having come to Japan, came saying they would meet the Teacher who was in Korea, since the Unification Church and the Teacher were much talked of in Japan. But does anyone meet them just because they ask to meet? I meet only when I have need; apart from that, I do not meet. You too, look well at the Teacher in advance today. They say, “Aigo, how good it would be if we introduced you in the newspaper,” but you must know that the Teacher most dislikes being indebted to others. The Teacher’s principle is such.

This time when they came, they said, Why does the Unification Church not advertise?, and even tried to coach us.

So I said, “We do not wish to go forward quickly. It is good to be reviled wretchedly,” and on the contrary, they were the ones who were worried.

The Mainstream Thought of the Unification Church

What is the mainstream thought of our Unification Church?

It is to unite in this world only as members of the Unification Church. This is the Teacher’s useless obstinacy. Is this useless obstinacy or good obstinacy? “It is good obstinacy.” Such good obstinacy is necessary.

When the Teacher made the Seonhwa Children’s Dance Troupe, many people opposed. But the Teacher does not attempt anything without confidence. I thought, “Just wait and see. It will become a worldwide dance troupe.” When making the Korean-American Cultural Foundation too, I made Pak Bo-hi the chief officer, but you did not believe in Heaven’s work. That was made by the Teacher receiving an inheritance as Heaven’s secret envoy.

Now in the world, all the worthless ones are gathering and clamoring. It means this is causing worldwide disturbance.

Now even the Republic of Korea has come to need us. What the Teacher has laid a hand on cannot but become a worldwide issue. On the day I lay a hand on it and turn it around, there will be no one who can withstand it. That much at least cannot be done.

That I have remained until now without dying, undergoing all sorts of hardships in places of death, is because there remains upon this globe a road I must go. Even though everyone else says it is a road, it means that it is not the road. That road cannot be found even by going about with eyes open. That is why members of the Unification Church must follow the Teacher.

Yet when I see that, though the Teacher tells them to do so, they do not do it, it means that whether that person is fine or worthless, wherever he goes and whatever he lives by, I do not care. What of it? Does the Teacher seem like a madman? Well, would a madman say such things? Does it seem I would do a mad thing? Look at my eyes a little. Look at my nose a little. The established church members who oppose me have all been shaken off in this way. It means, make a racket to your heart’s content. It means make a racket until before I die. But once I die, you will not be able to laugh.

The Unification Church has now achieved a worldwide foundation. Since there would be no limit if one once told such stories, let us stop now. Then even if one sets up the conclusion that the Teacher came forth holding an apt view, he will not fall into the class of madmen. Is it so, or is it not? “It is so.”

Since I did not perish even in a position of perishing, what kind of education will I hereafter give you? I will give an education by which one can live together with the world. This is important. What has history come seeking? It comes seeking that time when one can live together with the world. You, too, must go and fight and strive and teach and die, centering on that time. Then in the end, though one dies even in that position, one will be resurrected anew.

If one plants a single chestnut, a chestnut tree grows in that place, does it not?

When that chestnut tree passes through the season and bears fruit, one harvests chestnuts by the bushel. Is that not so? So do not worry. If it is unmistakably a chestnut tree and has been set in an environment where it can grow normally, it means there is nothing to worry about. It means that time is already made to come.

Today we must raise a beacon to the world. All of you must do so. The women say, “Ah! How can I, born a frail woman, raise a beacon to the world? Simply marrying a solid man and living loved is a woman’s greatest happiness.”

If that is best, then try doing so. Then one lives so generation after generation. But if one would become a king later even though one becomes a beggar now, will you go that road or not? Do you wish to go, or not? It means you will certainly say you will go. Yet if you say you will not go, you perish. It means in the end one does not even count as a person. Well, will you go that road or not? “We will go.”

The Outcome of History

The outcome of history until now is that. Then is the Unification Church now going that way? That is the question. If it has walked so, the Unification Church absolutely will not perish. It will develop all the more. Also, the individual restoration, family restoration, clan restoration, people restoration, national restoration, and world restoration that you and the Teacher speak of can be achieved.

When one thinks such thoughts, this great global village looks different. If one draws the world horizontally and places a pendulum at its center, at first the pendulum will swing back and forth a little. Then instantly, what happens? It swings back and forth all the way to both ends. Yet it means such a thing is nothing special. Will you believe those words? “Yes.” When it becomes so, individual restoration, family restoration, clan restoration, people restoration, national restoration, world restoration, and Cosmos restoration too come about.

If one takes advantage of this and makes just a little effort, one rises. If one goes “click,” a tenth rises; if one goes “snap,” it has already all risen. It means you are now at such a standard. In the Unification Church, we call that Restoration through Indemnity. Do you understand? One must not, without even thinking of such a thing, say, “There is another road. How tiresome.” You are now in a triangular zone. Because here, where there is horizontal power and the power of the universe, is the front line of God and Satan; it changes according to the human being’s fulfillment of responsibility. That is, if one goes even a single step north, one becomes a communist, and if one comes even a single step south, one becomes a person of the democratic world.

You will know that on June 25, prisoners were exchanged, centering on a buffer zone. Each side propagandized, “Come over this way.” If one crossed a single step backward, it was the North, and if one crossed a single step forward, it was the South.

Then, opening out the world, who would the people be who can stand upon such a line? Will there be a nation that can stand upon such a line, a nation that can pursue that and bring it? Such a nation must exist. There must be a nation that can settle the satanic world and found the heavenly world. But before such a nation exists, there must be such a religion, so the Unification Church seeks to stand in that position. And thus we must live centering on a nation that can rise so. This is an inevitable desire of the human being.

In the 1970s, one must be able to weigh the world centering on the ground called the Republic of Korea. That is why the Blessed Families must be trained. If left alone, they remain in Satan’s position. Because until now I said nothing and then, on entering this year, told the 36 Families, 72 Families, and 120 Families all to gather, I saw those who are not Families feeling aggrieved and displeased, saying, “The Teacher values only the Families and does not even look up at us.” What are the Blessed Families? The Blessed Families all have their use.

So we gather them and train them so that they become bold. As long as I am alive, the Unification Church will not die. It means the old soldier does not die but lives on.

The Necessity of Three Years of Witnessing and Its Significance

You have husbands and parents. It has been decades since the Teacher cast away his parents. Only recently did I find my grandfather’s grave; how appalling a thing is this? It is a grievous thing.

You must receive education in doing business for about two months. It means, endure during that time even if it is hard. When the Teacher told them to come on a certain day, they came in a crowd, and when I looked at the appearance of those women, their clothes were worn just like defeated soldiers, and they even carried babies on their backs. And they were saying to one another how glad they were and how good it was that they had come. Seeing this, their appearance was like defeated soldiers’, but it was truly impressive.

When others see it, how very dreary and how very appalling a figure that must be? Since a band of beggars gathers and speaks of world restoration and so on, it would be laughable. Very well! Laugh! That is what is fine. Those babies’ noses will become noses like beads. It becomes material that can add long and long to a thousand years of history. It becomes the temple of the ideology of the heavenly kingdom that will remain before our descendants for a thousand and ten thousand years hereafter and becomes a firm ground. So it means it is all right to be worthless. If I speak this way, ordinary people, when they see it, would be appalled, would they not? That is why they hold curiosity about it.

This road must, without fail, be gone. Long ago, when one attended school, circumstances were complicated because of worries about finding employment after graduation and so on. But now, since you have husbands, naturally the women must step forth.

There is nothing left to do now, is there?

Since you have borne all your babies, a woman’s work is all done. Well, is there anything more to desire? On whose account did you meet your husbands? On whose account did you bear children? Since I married you all off, that too is all on my account. Since it was good on my account, must you not repay this?

Well, those who will not go out, raise your hands. There is not one. Then where shall I send you out? You must go again to the posts where you were active in the old days. Now if you witness for about three years, everyone who has heard the words of the Unification Church even once until now will cooperate with us. When it becomes so, from that time one need not labor.

You must have been dispatched as husband and wife for about three years.

Because you were not dispatched at the very first, it means one must restore it through indemnity. Now, if you fail in your responsibility, I will draw a line.

If we expel just a few people who fall short of that line, they will come sharply to their senses. It means they know that being expelled from the Unification Church is most fearful. Is it fearful or not? Even the Teacher finds it fearful. Then can you not find it fearful?

You must be able to say, “I will raise a beacon and go out and fight and return, so do not worry.” With worry alone, one cannot move the world. It means a person who only worries cannot become a person who lives for the world.

That is why a pioneer must be like a dull and ignorant bear. One must become the bear’s cousin fully. The bear, when it climbs a tree and falls, climbs again even though it hurts. And yet where it lives is still the foot of the tree. I have never been a bear, but I have heard it said. One must have a dull tenacity like the bear’s. But there are many insufficient aspects in you. The Teacher too is an insufficient commander.

For What Does a Person Live?

When you go out to witness, do you go because there is somewhere that asks you to come?

Even when you go to someone you know and greet him saying, “How have you been?” if he ignores you, it feels bad; then how would it feel to go to a place that tells you not to come and treats you with contempt and says, “How do you do?” Occasionally they even spit; would that feel good? It means one undergoes all sorts of things.

The people of the world always suppose it is summer and do not know that autumn passes and winter comes. Because we are one stage ahead, when the people of the world welcome spring, we welcome autumn. The people of the world welcome autumn and make rice cakes and eat and carouse and say it is good, but at that time we welcome winter; and when they welcome winter, we welcome spring. At that time they come even though we tell them not to come. Because I know this, it means the Unification Church has not died.

Now, let us return to the heart of the talk. For what does a person live?

It is not the family and not money. You must clearly know that you live to live together with the world. In living together with the world, centering on what does one live? One lives centering on a love that the world can like.

What must one do to go seeking that love?

If the substance of the love that the world can like is God, then since God is the great ruler and sovereign of heaven and earth, one must love the Son whom that sovereign loves most.

Have you seen parents who bar and lock the gate so that their son’s friends cannot come? Rather, they worry that they do not come. So it means the person who can freely come and go into the inner room together with the son is the son’s friend or the friend of the master of that house.

Then God too must lead a worldwide life; but would God sit at the end of the world and merely give orders, saying, “Hear now, gaze upon me and live”? It is the same with God. He must lead a family life. The quickest road by which one can come and go where God leads a family life is the road of becoming a friend of the master. But one must not become a friend of the daughter. It is sorrowful for the daughters. But behind the daughter, there is much possibility that a thief will follow in. So it means do not become the daughter’s friend.

Then whose friend must one become?

One must become the son’s friend, and next one must become the father’s friend. That is why He is called God the Father. That was taught well. I do not know who taught it, but it means the conclusion was drawn well. Yet those who do not know the value of this conclusion are the Christians, and those who know are the members of the Unification Church.

Therefore, since God loves Jesus, we must know who the partner is whom Jesus loves most. That is why the word “bride” comes out of itself. Jesus’ bride becomes God’s daughter-in-law. Because one cannot see a grandchild except through that daughter-in-law, God too is caught there. Seeing this, it means Christianity is the religion among religions. It means it is the true religion.

How Is the Beacon Achieved?

Seen from this viewpoint, what has come forth holding an ideology of living that goes to a world centered on God is unification thought. I do not like the church. Because the age of the church has passed, Christianity too is perishing, and Buddhism too is perishing, and all will perish. A religion that cannot carry on a social movement flows away. Because the Teacher knew that the worldwide current of thought, the current of thought of the consummation, would become so, he has been carrying on Victory-Over-Communism activity from long ago in order to make a breakwater that can remain in the world. It is not that I say this to you for nothing. It means I come forth having planned it all.

Then has our Unification Church raised a beacon to the world, or not? It is long since we raised it. Then how is the beacon achieved? It is not that one lights it oneself. The beacon spreads among beacons.

If, centering on Heaven’s beacon, thirty thousand of the multitude can light the fire all at once, heart to heart, it means that vast force cannot be blocked even by the world. Knowing this, we must raise a beacon centering on the world in a new sense.

To raise a beacon, one must light a fire. Are you now prepared to light a fire, or not? “We are.” Then, since I have Heaven’s beacon, the one who comes to me and lights it first is in first place. Such things I do first; I do not do them later. However much you stay up through the night and keep watch for decades, it means I am first.

Then those who will light the fire first, raise your hands. This too is a competition. Such things are what is finest about the Unification Church. The competition is fierce. “Let us raise a beacon to the world!” These words are apt even when you hear them. That is why you will be able roughly to conclude that in entering the Unification Church, you entered a place that is not bad.

If One Would Build a House, the Timber Must Be Prepared

From now on, how shall we develop the Unification Church?

If one were to build a house, the timber must first be prepared. To prepare the house site first without even preparing the timber is to reverse the order of the work.

Then is timber prepared upon this earth, centering on Heaven’s providence?

If one were to build one house, there must be the timber necessary for building that house, and even in making a single door, one must make it fit the number of rooms. To put it another way, it means that when building a house, the timber according to the design must first be prepared. Then, centering on the design, that is, the structure of that house, one must prepare the house site.

Then the question is whether timber has been prepared on the road the Unification Church has come until now. This is the same as the question of whether Teacher Moon of the Unification Church can prepare it. There is a person in this society who has assessed me as having much of the character of a swindler. Do you not criticize the Teacher? Has the Teacher become timber, or not? “He has become it.”

A little while ago, there was a person who rushed out carelessly, but that must not be done. When a multitude is gathered like this, one must greet the representative and receive the representative’s instruction and then come out; one must not run out as one pleases. Seeing such a thing, I am appalled. Without even such discernment, how does one follow the road that goes to the heavenly world? Even in thieving, hands and feet must match to some degree to do it together. The Teacher does not do so wherever he goes.

When the Teacher sometimes reviles you from the platform, it is because unless he does so, it is not indemnified. Even if someone's life comes to that place for the first time and is wounded and falls away, it cannot be helped. To save many people, I must properly revile. It means, misunderstand if you will. Unless one is an utter idiot, would one wish to strike someone at the very time he is devoting his merit?

I do not make such a blunder wherever I go. I already take in the situation at a glance and move. Even if I rent a room and live apart, it means I do not give off the smell of a Unification Church member or a religious person. When I pray, I pray through the night; but during the day, those around me do not know well whether I am a religious person or not. I do not give off such a smell. Why? Because making myself known cannot become glory to God. Ministers all go about putting on airs and doing the work of judging, but it means I do not give off such a smell. In this way, one must take in the situation. This is the proper road.

A filial son prepares delicious food when the parent is hungry. A person who tells him to eat delicious food when he is full is not a filial son. Such a person is an insufficient child. In any environment, it must not be so.

Why do you keep boasting of Teacher Moon of the Unification Church when you go out to witness?

Did the Teacher tell you to boast? In the world now all revile, and the rumors too are bad; if you boast of the Teacher, what is there but being reviled? You need only introduce the Teacher later, when the witnessing is done, and you come back. And thus you must make an environment in which you can be praised in that village and in which the village people can all follow. That is why one must be quick to take in the situation.

Then what of the Teacher?

In pioneering the Unification Church, has the Teacher himself become timber, or not? This is the question. Has he become timber, or not? “He has.” If he has not, criticize. It is all right even if someone comes before me and makes a scene.

At the meeting of regional leaders, even if the regional leaders speak quietly, I already know from their mouths alone what mind they hold and what they are about to say. The Teacher is a person who feels bad if one cannot state one’s opinion clearly and dithers. Then you say, “The Teacher does that while listening to no one’s words”; but it is obvious once one has listened.

So because I cannot sit and listen to such talk in a busy time, I say this. If you would say such trifling things, you might as well do some other work. This road has already all been planned.

Though Mother attends the Teacher, she will never have seen him separately preparing a Message. It is not that I sit, especially at a desk, and search through books and prepare a Message. I come straight out and speak the Message. Even so, I do not speak the Message blindly. It means everything is done according to reason.

In that sense, does it seem the Teacher is apt as timber that can accomplish the ideology of the Unification Church, or not? “It seems apt.” Well, let us reckon it up exactly once. Then do you all approve of the Teacher’s work? “Yes.” You approve if it is necessary for you, and if unnecessary, you do not.

Furthermore, if it seems profit will come out, you do it, and if it seems there will be loss, you do not. Is that not so? “It is not so.” Is it not so? Do you approve even if there is loss? “Yes.” That feels good.

The Teacher’s Aptitude and Strategy

Not long ago, several people in a certain religious body held a meeting to criticize the Unification Church. They are people who do not know Teacher Moon of the Unification Church well.

If I stood in such a position as they speak of, the Unification Church would already have vanished decades ago. I am not a person who dances to such a slack beat. I am not a man who, once he has made a promise, says he will tread upon it and cross over first before heaven and earth change or before they betray. Even people who betrayed me, I went seeking three times to admonish and urge and sought to make them comrades. I am a man who holds that as a tradition.

However much they criticize this and that, the Teacher is not to be trifled with. Even if one works several hundred times more than Teacher Moon of the Unification Church, suffers several hundred times more, and labors several hundred times more, it will not do.

If that were likely to work, I would not do this work. If I did not do this work, there would be no need to be reviled. I have the aptitude to succeed as much as I like if I seek to succeed in society. I am rich in sociability and quick to take in a situation. It means that at a glance I know anything a hundred percent.

Yesterday I went to the hospital for a health examination and, while there, told the doctor to go to the mountains with me, and came back. Because of the dignity of being the Teacher of the Unification Church, there are many awkward matters if I grow close to people.

If we grow close to each other, we come to eat together, and when a telephone call comes, one must say, “Yes, I am coming,” and go out and become a friend. But if one has been entertained once, one can be entertained twice; and if one has been entertained as many as twice and then puts forward one’s mouth seeking to be entertained a third time, one gets a slap on the cheek from that person and is criticized as, “That fellow is no good.” Is that not so? If one has been invited to that person’s house, one must once invite that person to one’s own house. Is that so, or not? “It is so.”

Then when you, who have followed the Unification Church until now and been loyal to the Unification Church, sought to invite and attend the Teacher, did I quickly go and sit at the table? My conscience cannot do that. But with foreigners, it is all right to do so. I, too, wish to hold a great feast splendidly together with you and then face the thirty million people; I do not wish to make you suffer and sit alone in a good place.

Foreigners are treated as an exception because hereafter we must make a fence. One must treat those people so, and there must also be coming and going with each other. But because my conscience does not yet permit the coming and going, I have become a man who lives in the shade. Do you understand what I mean? “Yes.”

Though I know that I am rich in aptitude, I must establish the whole dignity of Heaven and the authority of those who have labored and thereby seek a road by which humankind can hereafter accept the Unification Church. Only then can your authority stand and the ground be consolidated.

Furthermore, because a foundation of the people and a foundation of the nation on which the Unification Church can go hereafter can be prepared, I am waiting until such a foundation is prepared. That is why I do not go even if the members of the Unification Church invite me. That I do not go even when invited is not because I do not know how to eat. So do not misunderstand.

If I had not become the Teacher of the Unification Church, I would have been at least the secretary of some politician. I have such aptitude and am also a clever person. I am a person who holds the aptitude to supervise anything. It means that if I were involved in a political party, there too I would lose to no one and could, without fail, accomplish any work. That is why the satanic forces come forth, carrying on operations of obstruction.

It is not that I do not know such things. The sages who came and went until now trod this road and departed without a name, and that was revealed after an age had passed. Because pursuing such a result is Heaven’s strategy, I too go this road in that way. Not knowing such circumstances, one must not speak carelessly. For decades until now, Heaven has not forsaken the Teacher, and also people who commune with the spiritual world are cooperating with the Teacher.

Let Us Not Grow Weary

It was so yesterday too. Yesterday was Hyo-jin’s birthday, so I prayed for him. Ishii (石井) and several children gathered and sat together and gave congratulations. But while the department heads and regional leaders living near the headquarters did not even think of it, out of nowhere a congratulatory cake was sent from another place. Seeing this, I was ashamed. The thought came, “The members of the Unification Church have now grown weary.” That person was a Buddhist, and having somehow found out even the date and the name, he attached a label saying long life and put in a congratulatory telegram and had his disciple bring it. Though I had not told him, that person did so every single time.

You must hereafter receive re-education in that respect. Must you receive re-education, or not? “We must receive it.” That is why this year we would have all the members receive training. Once this Asian Victory-Over-Communism Rally is finished, I intend to educate all of you. From now on, the Teacher must directly instruct the method and do this work. You are not equipped with the basic attitude of a person of faith. It means it is shameful to look at Heaven.

If we accumulate the merit and another person receives the glory and the congratulations, in the end it becomes the same as defeated soldiers who have had their blessing taken and lost. That I say such things is all because of you. Do you understand? When I see people who commune with the spiritual world bearing witness to me, it means I am grateful. Seeing such things, the Teacher of the Unification Church is not in a fortune of perishing. I know this. If I had stepped forth blindly, I would already have perished and fallen away.

Today I have laid a worldwide foundation in one generation, centering on my individual self. What Christianity achieved over four hundred years of history, I found and established within a period of a mere ten years. This is a miracle of the century.

If our Unification Church had stood in the same position as Christianity in its early days, all would have died. You cannot believe in the Unification Church without being resolved upon death. This road is a road that must go even after dying. The Teacher himself is also advancing at this time from a position that is not wrong. It must be done so. Do you too acknowledge it so? “Yes.”

Even people who have left the Unification Church and oppose it all say the Teacher is fine. Furthermore, while saying, “I do not go because I dislike the sight of the Association president,” they do not say that they themselves dislike attending. Well, do you all dislike the Teacher?

If you dislike him, step aside over there. I am not a person who behaves so trivially. I go without fail. You must hereafter handle such questions well.

Let Us Lay the Foundation Firmly

Then, whatever anyone says, if one would build a house, there must first be timber, and next one must prepare the site. That is why, since the Teacher stands in the position of timber, now the site must be prepared. In preparing the site, from where must one prepare it? One must prepare it from underground.

If one would build a high-rise building, one must first dig the ground deep and do the foundation work firmly. If one thinks, “Ah, there is no need to suffer; let us build it on a broad sandy beach,” one cannot build a house. One must do the foundation work. Our foundation work has not yet ended. Do not think it has ended. Even now we are going on preparing the foundation.

Then how much has the foundation been prepared?

It has been prepared as much as is visible at the present point. This time I listened right through to the content of President Park’s New Year press conference for nearly two hours and fifteen minutes. That content can take responsibility in the nation’s economic field, but will it also become a citizens’ charter in the spiritual field?

It perhaps becomes a citizens’ charter centering on our citizens alone. Still, it cannot become a charter of humankind that can conform to and be prepared for the rapidly changing worldwide current of thought. Then how would one answer when asked whether it is not the citizens’ charter that must receive respect before a charter of humankind? That is what I would like to ask. Is there no plan? On such questions, there can be no answer.

Therefore, without fail, when that time comes when one runs up against such a question, the Unification Church becomes necessary. Do you understand? At that boundary line, the Unification Church will become necessary. We go without speaking for the sake of that time. Therefore, you must work for tomorrow. You yourselves must go such a tremendous road. This is because the Unification Church now is not upon a ground where the foundation has been prepared but is going on preparing the foundation.

Then what is necessary to consolidate a foundation with concrete?

Before cement, one must first prepare gravel and sand. This is because if one prepares one truckload of cement, one must prepare several times that much gravel and sand. Then where are the gravel and sand? They are at the riverbank. The riverbank is a place where no one lives.

Furthermore, the stones are in the mountains. They are not in the meadow. Those things themselves are objects now left abandoned in a dreary position. Next, there must be water.

Then who are the people in the Unification Church who can become gravel, the people who can become sand? It becomes so. You feel aggrieved, do you not? You may feel displeased, saying, “Aigo, listening to what the Teacher says from the beginning of the year, it is we who become the gravel and become the sand.” But even if you feel displeased, it cannot be helped. Since this is the principle, what is to be done? Then it means let us hand down to you the likes of sand and gravel. Do you approve, or not? “We do.”

Then what will happen if one pours cement and water onto the sand and gravel and mixes them? It becomes one mass. When you do this work day and night, forgetting parents and children, your children must become one mass together with you. And thus, taking this as the foundation, it swells. When that swells, the mass of stone swells too, and the mass of sand swells, and the mass of cement swells. When that becomes greater than thirty million, it becomes a resounding issue in the world. All of you, try climbing a high mountain and rolling a stone. Watching the stone go crashing down as it rolls is truly impressive. When a great stone rolls, the matter unfolds greatly.

Therefore, you must become the cement, and become the gravel, and become the sand, and become the water. You must make your blood and sweat and tears the water, and make your bodies the sand, and make your bones the gravel. And so you must consolidate your foundation. A ground thus consolidated, because it is creative, cannot be broken down though a thousand years of history pass, cannot be broken down though ten thousand years of history pass, and cannot be broken down though any body labors a thousand and ten thousand years. Because we are consolidating such a ground, however much money a person in the world may have, he must come here and learn this.

The Road the Unification Church Must Go Hereafter

But not just anyone may come here. That is why we must go forward establishing a standard beyond the communists’. You will know if you look at the modern history of the Soviet communists, who carried out a third and fourth five-year economic development plan centering on political revolution. During the period of the third five-year economic development plan, they did not distribute rice a hundred percent even to public officials. They gave a few percent rice mixed with starch powder. As a result, there were many public officials who collapsed while doing their office work. In this way they presented a thoroughgoing core enterprise.

They emphasized the unity of workers and peasants and said, Let us go gazing upon one day of victory when we can overthrow the bourgeois class of the world.

So thoroughgoing was that thought that unless one overcame the social environment with one’s own hands, one was not treated as a communist. To stretch out to the world as a nation holding a communist system, they did not give lukewarm training.

That is why we must be beyond that. You must fast for a week, and if that still will not do, you must fast twenty-one days. If you cannot do it, I will fast twenty-one days. One must do it by going out on the sandy beach and shedding sweat under the blazing sun. Will you do it, or not? “We will do it.”

If one does so, without fail the blood will grow cold, and the flesh will grow cold.

One must endure that steadfastly. One must hold a patience and resolve more than enough to overcome all the suffering of the cells of an individual defiled by the Fall.

So one must fast until the blood and sweat one has shed can govern one’s own person. Just as if one would build a bridge somewhere, one must prepare the foundation from the deepest place, so we too must prepare the foundation from the lowest position and build upward.

When the world denies the Unification Church, what must you do?

Among members of the Unification Church, especially university graduates, must become the bottom layer. Every day one must devote sincerity and become an owner. A person who dislikes that and runs away comes to be reviled by this nation.

Even when going out to the field to work, others eat and then go out, but one must oneself go out without eating and weed before others. If the owner comes out to the field and sees that, naturally, that person rises. So even though all in the village oppose, they come to bow their heads. This is how the foundation of today’s Unification Church has been laid, from the individual through the village.

Then what is it that we must do hereafter?

Hereafter, the age of the church passes. What humankind desires is not the church. The church is necessary when one goes the road of the destiny of Restoration within the sphere of the Fall; when one welcomes a new time, the age of the church passes.

That is why the Unification Church does not carry on church activity. The Teacher too does not carry on church activity. With the name of the church, we adapt to society, reform society, and carry on a movement of cleansing society. That is fulfilling the mission of a pioneer that humankind living in that nation and that people, or in the world, cannot do. This road is the road you must now go.

Because such a world arrives, however great and however much it contributed to history Christianity may be, it is like chaff. If there is no fruit there, one cannot pluck fruit on that ground. The fruit one seeks to pluck in the church is not needed by God. Because that fruit must be plucked in the world and plucked in the nation, you must know that we cannot but cross the age of the church and disregard the age of the church and develop a stage of activity that can pass through a relationship with living society.

For that, one must resolve these things today from the middle, where the democratic world and the communist world confront each other, centering on thought. This has been the Teacher’s strategy until now. It means a worldwide age of consummation comes just as the Teacher anticipated. But because one cannot carry on a worldwide movement with the ideology of religion alone, an ideology that can overcome that must come forth from here.

God too hopes for that. It is Heaven’s Providence of Restoration to lay the ground of a worldwide ideology of living. Therefore, going forward equipped with an ideological system by which one can live for the world, and to adapt to a special environment together with the people of the world, is the direction the Unification Church must go hereafter.

If One Would Save This Nation

That is why the Unification Church does not make being for the Republic of Korea its center. Because it is the Principle that one cannot develop without a foundation on which subject and object can give and receive, if the Republic of Korea is the subject nation, one must establish an object nation.

Then what nation shall we establish as the object nation?

At present we are establishing Japan. Therefore, where must we love? It is not loving one’s own nation but loving the object nation. Therefore, the strategic method of Heaven in the 1970s is to put forward the reciprocal position and drive us on.

So the strategy of the church must be so, and the activity toward society must be so as well. To lay such a foundation, we have been carrying on a worldwide movement centering on anti-communist thought. Do you understand?

Then how shall we gather this up and bring it to a conclusion?

If you cannot gather it up, the Teacher must gather it up. But God, to gather that up, comes gathering it up from another field. Seen from such a position, the conclusion emerges that in the Korean church, or in the religious world, the only one that even so is unknown to others, is seeking a religious view of the future and presenting a direction so that religion can be equipped with an innovative system in the future, is at present the Unification Church. In that process, we hold behind us a wretched history.

Then what is the final question hereafter?

It is how to block the communists who penetrate our sphere of living. The democratic world is connected by fraternal love and holds a plane relationship by which it can stretch out freely as it pleases. Therefore, the question now is what must be done to gather the communist world and save the world.

Since what developed centering on thought is the communist sphere, how to absorb and digest this cannot but be the supremely difficult problem we must resolve. That is why the rise and fall of the nation is not the problem. The environment is not the problem. However much we are persecuted and driven, we must go. We go and fight. Under such a goal, we have been walking this road since the 1960s.

Then how must we carry on enlightenment activity and witnessing activity?

First, we must be thoroughgoing ideologically beyond the communists. One must hold the conviction that without our unifying thought, one cannot find this nation, this people. Then what is next? It is a method of guidance for living. Though you now lead an unhappy life, living like workers and peasants, if you come to be equipped with a thoroughgoing thought, those conditions of unhappiness, on the contrary, become conditions of happiness. And that becomes the driving force by which the ideal of history can be founded. That is why one must defend it. Only such a thought can shine.

If material becomes abundant in reality, it is hard for the spirit of faith to dig in, centering on the environment.

Among the people who live within the sphere of the Unification Church today, there are people who live with difficulty in farming villages. Even amid a difficult environment, they are advancing to lay a ground of happiness. That a movement of throwing oneself in all the more for Heaven even within such a difficult life came forth in this Korea centering on the unification thought of the Unification Church is a historic event.

That, in the present society where workers as workers and the poor as the poor go seeking a stage beyond the one in which they are living, one contributes there, is the natural result that human beings ought properly to bring about.

So the Unification Church says, let us go to a position more wretched than the position in which we ourselves are living, and let us go seeking an environment worse than the present with joy and hope. God is supporting the Unification Church so that such a movement can appear in Korea as a new origin. From here new flowers bloom, and the leaves grow luxuriant.

When we analyze every thought, the only thing that can love my people and save my brothers and clan, and save the world, and make my own self into a man of hope, is unification thought. Therefore, we must make known before this people that unification thought is great.

What must be done to save this nation?

One must make these people like the members of the Unification Church, who are said to be more relentless than the communists. If it becomes so, this nation will be saved. We must present such a direction before these people.

Next, one must break down ignorance and poverty. We must become leaders and forerunners in overcoming ignorance. For that, we must endure something harder than those who are poor and starving. To the ignorant, one must become a friend who awakens them from ignorance before anyone else, and to the poor, one must stand in the position of a mother who relieves their poverty before anyone else.

And thus one must bring hope to people who, in the midst of despair, are discouraged and disappointed and about to give up all of themselves entirely.

What has gathered bands who can sacrifice themselves to go such a road and has been equipped with a system of activity is the Unification Church of today. Seeing this, the Unification Church will not perish. It absolutely will not perish.

The State of Preparations for Holding the Asian Victory-Over-Communism Rally

Now we must present before the citizenry the thought and direction that the Korean people must hold and go with and enlighten them so that they can hold confidence in their living. We must break down the ignorance and poverty of these people and save these people. Students must go to the farming villages and weed with hoes and glean the ears of grain. They must go into the farms and work barefoot and shed sweat together with the farmers. From here, it means let us block the demon claws of the communists’ invasion from stretching out. The true intent of our activity lies there.

The established churches will without fail oppose, and these people will oppose.

Knowing that a period of receiving such persecution would come, we have, of our accord, gone seeking a position of being driven and have done that work from the shade, whoever might oppose. That is why we regard the several thousand certificates of commendation we have received from the nation today as a token of evidence that we have loved the Republic of Korea.

At the time our Unification Church registered with the Ministry of Culture and Public Information, we were a body nearly expelled, but now we make use of such achievements.

At first we were all rejected. We were rejected all at once before the nation and society. Even over this, Teacher Moon’s carrying on anti-communist activity, the intelligence agency thought it laughable and sneered. Enduring that, we went to the provinces and walked fifty li, sixty li, and a hundred li, crossed mountains, and made visits. They were all agonizing to do well for themselves. Even amid such opposition, the Unification Church advanced without speaking.

Having come forth so, now the time has come when we can speak to them through Unification Church revival meetings. I gave the order to do so. But it means attend if you will attend and do not if you will not. What matters is that Heaven, more than anyone, acknowledges. It means the question is whether Heaven acknowledges and plays the role of a breakwater or not. Therefore, we must work with the conviction that says, “Acknowledge if you will acknowledge, and do not if you will not. Revile if you will revile; whether it is long or short must be measured to be known. You work centering on your greed, but we do not.”

In this way we have pioneered until now, not only in church activity but also in the anti-communist movement, a road by which we could obtain the right to hold a rally centering on the World Anti-Communist League. When we think of this present point today, this has achieved a great miracle. The decisive occasion by which we can cross over such a crisis is the Asian Victory-Over-Communism Rally we would hold this time. That is why this time we seek as far as possible to contact government institutions.

Then to what stage have the preparations concerning this Asian Victory-Over-Communism Rally advanced? At the very first, the government side too was pleased and said it would support us, but now it has come to oppose. Yet we do not retreat. The signboards saying Asian Victory-Over-Communism Rally are now posted here and there in the streets, are they not? When the Ministry of Culture and Public Information saw them, they came forward saying, Why did you post signboards when the Minister’s approval was not even received? So we answered, “Did the working-level officials not already promise one another to do so?”

If they take down the signboards, the newspaper reporters will not keep still. If they persecute us with official power, even if we keep still, the newspaper reporters will not keep still. So today too I sent out several officers to work on it before and after. It means we are fighting like this.

You now do not know whether it is day or night, but behind the scenes we are struggling ceaselessly to develop. Here vast material resources must be invested. Today the members of the Unification Church say they follow the Teacher, but the Teacher is in a position of having to support them. Is that not so? “Yes.”

Meanwhile, we have held countless rallies, but among the members of the Unification Church, there are many who live forgetting it even though a rally is being held at the church. Such people are not members of the Unification Church. They are like fallen seed leaves. They are the dead. Do the students of the Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles know this? It means many live without knowing what is being done at the church now. This must not be. In the 1970s, I will put such people in order. That is why you must not be indifferent to this Asian Victory-Over-Communism Rally.

We must raise a beacon in Asia. If we raise a beacon in Asia, it is heard in the world too. When it becomes so, Korea can keep pace with the world even while keeping still. It will without fail become so. I will make it so. We have already entered the sphere of a plan by which this can be made. The first stage has come to a stage where it can end successfully.

But if the Republic of Korea now does not cooperate with us, when that time comes, the Republic of Korea cannot establish its dignity in the world. Such a time will come. If it does not become so, you must make it so. Those who wish to make it so, those who say they will take part in that, raise your hands. Looking up at others…

If One Does as the Teacher Says, It Works

The Japan performance of the Seonhwa Children’s Dance Troupe was a great adventure. I drew up the organization and gave instructions one by one. Even Pak Bo-hi, the person concerned, did not know it. We pushed it forward to hold a nationwide tour within two months.

Because I said, “If you only do as I direct, people will crowd into the Unification Church, and it will be a great success nationwide. The Teacher has such a strategy,” the Japanese officers did not believe. Meeting them several times, I coaxed them along, saying, “You believe in the Teacher. If it fails, I fail; if we die, the Teacher’s one person dies.” Whatever it is, if you do it according to your view, all fails, and if you do as the Teacher says, all works.

So in preparing the admission tickets, we made two-thirds of them A tickets, and of the remaining third, we made two-thirds B tickets, and the remaining C tickets we sold through the newspapers. Having made the admission tickets this way, in the end there was a great fuss over going about selling newspapers because there were no tickets. Yet at first we had to sell forty-five thousand admission tickets, and until one week before the performance, we could sell only four thousand. Until one week before the performance, we could not sell even a tenth.

So we followed Mr. Sasakawa and even former Prime Minister Kishi from beginning to end and sold them tickets. Do you think it was because the Seonhwa Dance Troupe was excellent that it went so? It is out of the question. The Teacher gave special instructions to set up Mr. Sasakawa as chairman and former Prime Minister Kishi as honorary chairman. So to stir up a wind nationally, we drew up that whole plan. But when I heard the interim report, they said that even a week before the performance, they had sold only four thousand.

Mr. Sasakawa is a famous person in the Japanese financial world. If one says Sasakawa, no one does not know. Furthermore, former Prime Minister Kishi can be said to be the sole elder statesman in Japanese politics. But if a performance for which former Prime Minister Kishi had taken the honorary chairmanship failed, he too would suffer great disgrace. He would come to be criticized by the Japanese citizenry. So they made a fuss, asking whom we were trying to disgrace by doing this.

Even so, Mr. Sasakawa had nerve. Saying, “Once a man has made a promise, he must push it through. Only then, even if one fails, does one fail only a little,” he continued to support us. So Association President Kuboki, greatly pleased, ran about busily and sold the tickets. Standing at the head, he concentrated the offensive from the best places first. In investing personnel, in the end we invested by the opposite method from the beginning.

We organized mobile units and were active; if only three performances succeeded, it got into the newspapers. When it became so, a boom arose nationwide, so for that we placed our personnel here and there in the performance hall. Because there are many impressive parts in our Korean pieces, I told them that when a good melody came out, they must, without fail, clap.

If only three people do so, everyone does so. When a spring breeze blows, the old dance and the young dance. It is the same. There is content there that can be so.

The Japanese people all assess Korea with national feeling. So before receiving such an assessment, the Teacher makes it so that the Japanese people clap of their own accord, saying it is good. When it becomes so, even the critics can do nothing.

Carrying out such a strategy, we came to finish all the performances successfully, ending with the Nagoya performance. I gave special instructions to do it so. So it feels excellent.

Let Us Raise a Beacon of Love Centered on God

You have an antenna you yourselves do not know of. That antenna differs for every person. If the Teacher had been like an ordinary person, Japan would have sold off the Unification Church and roasted it and grilled it and fried it and done all sorts of things.

There were even fellows who heard preposterous and absurd talk and came and threatened and blackmailed, saying, “You did this, did you not?” So I said to them, “You rascal! I did. Well, what of it?” At such times, one must do it this way too.

There were also several hundred crises when we nearly perished. And yet the fact that I could come forth like this until today is because I skillfully unfolded a strategy of not perishing. If the first line fails, the second; if the second line fails, the third; if the third line fails, I have established even a fourth line. There is a saying that a half-cooked ox head is sold first in the market. It means that, seen in terms of the Principle, it is so.

Yesterday I met a person who is a director of the Anti-Communist League who came to see me, and he said that in Korea it is dark beneath the lamp, and said that a worldwide figure had appeared in Japan. So when I asked, “Who is that person?”, he said, “A young man called Kuboki.” Who made Kuboki so? The Teacher made him so. So when I called the important members of the Anti-Communist League and told them, they were amazed, saying, “So that teacher was in Korea.”

Strategically, one must do such a thing. In the end, I made them submit completely with one blow. Without even needing supporting fire from the middle. Do you understand? “Yes.”

The people of the Republic of Korea will from now on be curious about Teacher Moon of the Unification Church. Because I do not now step forward publicly, they do not know me well. When I read the letters the foreign members write me, their content is truly earnest. They say, “Teacher, when will you come?” desiring it more earnestly than one hopes for a dead bridegroom to come back alive.

That is why it means, let us raise a beacon. What beacon must we raise? We must raise a beacon of love centered on God. Our Unification Church must do that. In that sense, this Asian Victory-Over-Communism Rally may be called the opening ceremony of the 1970s. Three times seven is twenty-one. Thus, from the beginning of the year, it has fit well even numerically. January 21 is a day that left a great bitter resentment for these people. Furthermore, this day became an occasion on which these people could awaken once again concerning communism.

You will remember the armed infiltration incident of January 21, 1968, also called the “Kim Shin-jo incident.” That incident became the occasion on which Korea could raise a beacon and appear anew. That we, at the crisis of welcoming that one day, have come forth presenting a new historic condition has great significance.

This time, seventy of our members from Japan will come to Korea. Those people are the ones who first clashed with the enemy on the anti-communist front line.

Though struck down with clubs in broad daylight and collapsing, they collided with the communists and fought and were victorious. That came about because they heard that the members in Korea had moved in that way in the past and said they would not lose to the Korean members.

Having obtained new strength through such a historic struggle over the past one year and nine months, in this year, which welcomes the full second anniversary of the January 21 incident, they are coming to seek the homeland to raise a new beacon and go out to the world. They are coming to touch the strength of the homeland, its matrix, and gather material by which they can go forth to tomorrow’s front line. Do you understand? “Yes.”

When we held a rally in Tokyo, Japan, we filled even a place several times larger than the Seoul Citizens’ Hall. You, too, must fill the Citizens’ Hall on the coming twenty-first; are you confident? “Yes.” Uncles and aunts, and also grandfathers and grandmothers, are you confident? “Yes.” Young men and women too, are you confident? “Yes.”

If you are confident, that is enough. When I look at the old gentleman who has come before me here, there is one thing that feels good. Previously this old gentleman’s three sons received the Blessing together. Well, did I obtain good daughters-in-law for you? “Indeed you did.” (Laughter, applause)

The Responsibility You Must Fulfill with the Victory-Over-Communism Rally Before Us

Now if we only do well and cross over this year, the matter grows great.

Since the Japanese members are coming with considerable expectations, we must not fall short of those expectations. A gentleman does not warm himself at a straw fire even if he freezes to death. Though wretchedly worthless and of no account, you are unmistakably the owner’s sons. Do you understand? “Yes.” You are the owner’s sons. Though the clothes are shabbily worn, those eyes differ from other people’s.

Therefore, you must be active for this rally. According to the degree to which we move, we can expect that result. Combining the seats and standing room of the Citizens’ Hall, about four thousand people can enter. Therefore, if we are active at the beginning of this year and only fill four thousand, the rally is no problem.

Then if I told the aunt with the limping leg to bring twenty people, would she bring them or not? Seeing that she does not answer, it seems there is no such aunt. Well, ordinary aunties, if I told you to bring twenty people, would you bring them or not? “We will bring them.” And you young ladies, will you bring them or not? “……” These wretched young ladies…

If the young generation has no will and is passive, it perishes. If there is such a young lady, the aunties must treat her with contempt. Well, young ladies, do you wish to lose to the aunties? “We will not lose.” Hearing those words that you will not lose, that is enough.

I see all of that in my mind. Before a woman marries, shyness comes first. Furthermore, she laughs alone just at seeing a dry leaf rolling by. Is that not so? Because there are many people, shyness comes first, and so you keep still; is that it? Is that so? She nods her head.

There is no need even to ask the men. Grown men, young men, will you bring twenty people or not? “We will bring them.” I cannot believe it. Because people are not steady, one cannot easily believe. Can I believe it, or not? “You can.” If so, this rally is no problem.

We have received many certificates of commendation in the provinces from police bureau chiefs and provincial governors. That is because the Victory-Over-Communism Federation was active. The Anti-Communist League is also in a position of asking us to send lecturers. The officers of the Anti-Communist League say, “We have only a head and no hands and feet, so let us do it jointly together.” This is an unmistakable fact, is it not? That is why we continue this activity.

That is why, from last year, we have been carrying out nationwide personnel transfers. We have entered an age in which whoever from the provinces goes can take the place of the officers who had been working with responsibility in the regions. That is why we called in the regional leaders of the eight provinces who had been working on the front line and set them all to that work. We will drive it hard and press it through by June of this year. So each region must make at least thirty-six districts. Then will you promise to develop so region by region, or not? “……” What is to be done with this?

When we look at the German citizenry, their noses are large, and the contours of their faces are distinct too. They differ somewhat from us. If one goes toward northern Europe, the contours of people’s faces are distinct. It is made to suit the national character and disposition of that nation. When I went on tour to Germany, about a hundred Unification Church members had gathered, and when I walked in, all the people who had been sitting in their places stood up and stood at attention and greeted me. The custom of Germany is made to be so. When a teacher they respect enters, without fail the whole body stands up and shows courtesy. Though I have been to countless nations, that was the first time I saw such courtesy shown all at once. Seeing that, it truly felt good. So when I went to Germany, I danced a real dance once.

When one looks at the Korean crowds after seeing such Germans, strength does not come. They hem and haw. They cannot move actively but only watch others’ faces. This is the chronic custom of an oppressed people. What is there to look up at others for? And then, if the situation becomes unfavorable, they say they do not need it, and if the situation becomes favorable, they pair up with it. They stick to the liver and then stick to the gallbladder. That must not be.

If one watches others’ faces, one has no freedom either. Even now they are watching the Teacher’s face and since it seems that in a little while a reviling will come out, they are flinching. What can people who behave so accomplish? It must be torn out and remade fundamentally. Do you approve of that? “Yes.” Then one must suffer much. Becoming an owner, one must suffer for a lifetime.

The Time Has Come When the Unification Church Can Be Introduced Worldwide

If we finish this Asian Victory-Over-Communism Rally and the Japan rally in September, an issue will without fail unfold. America will come to view the greatest event among the events of Asia as “the Victory-Over-Communism Federation event.” However much they dislike it, they will come to study it. On the day they study that, communism too can be overcome.

Now we have entered a time when the Unification Church can be introduced worldwide. A time has come when the inner activity of the Unification Church can be introduced worldwide, and outwardly too, a substantial environment has been prepared in which it can be introduced worldwide. So from now on, we must go about for about ten years with our bundles packed. Gazing only upon the Will, we go with our belts tightened.

Then whom must one follow? One must follow the Teacher. In following the Teacher, one must follow gladly. When we hold this Victory-Over-Communism Rally, if there is something that feels good, let us dance once.

During the rally, you must know how, even if no one tells you, to clap when it is time to clap and, rousing your spirits, to say “Hear, hear” and keep the beat. And thus, gaining a great result at this rally, we must raise a beacon in Asia. It means let the Unification Church and the Victory-Over-Communism Federation become two wings and flutter over all the heaven and earth of Asia. Those who have no wings will ride an airplane and fly. So you too, please become one qualified to ride an airplane. Do you understand? “Yes.”

Because I would make you into people who can live together with the world, I do such extraordinary work. What must one do to live together with the world? One must know all the complicated events and complicated currents of thought arising in the world and also be able to keep the beat and keep the breath with them. Only after that can we go forth to the world with dignity, and the world too welcomes us. Knowing that such a tremendous time is drawing near before us, we must raise powerfully not a beacon of failure but a beacon of victory. Do you understand? “Yes.” Those who say they will do so raise both hands. That is enough. Put them down.

I now need not carry on the Victory-Over-Communism movement. I have now done it all. Since for this rally you have said you would raise the beacon, I believe in you.

The Expenses Required for Holding the Victory-Over-Communism Rally

Then how much funding will be invested in this rally? Let us calculate once. For the Japanese members to come by way of Jeju Island to attend this rally, the travel expense alone costs basically a hundred thousand won per person. So for seventy people, it is seven million won. And though the general participants will exceed a hundred, reckoning them at a hundred, since it costs a hundred thirty-five thousand won per person, it is thirteen million five hundred thousand won. This expense alone is tremendous. So from this Jeju Island rally to the Seoul rally, twenty million won in expenses is required.

This is purely the expense of participating in the rally. In addition to that, the expenses otherwise consumed, that is, the expenses of the general participants for a week or of our members riding vehicles for a fortnight and so on, are not included. Therefore, when one person comes here, a general participant comes paying three hundred thousand won. And it means one must come with more money to spare.

Those who come this time are all people of the middle class and above. Those people too are not merely coming to Jeju Island and going, but passing through Seoul, so three hundred thousand won in expenses alone will not do.

If a hundred of those people come, it becomes thirty million won. Then will exactly that much expense be required for our members to move together? At the least, about forty million won in expenses is required for this. It means such vast funds are invested.

Also, the people of the middle class and above in Korea number about two hundred, and among them we reckon those who can participate at a hundred. To that, the money invested individually is two million won. Adding this up, it is forty-two million won. Investing such great expenses, we carry out the Seoul rally.

Then what degree of plan is the headquarters making?

A little while ago, when five people came in the first group, forty thousand won per person, altogether two million won of expenses, was required. Then this time, for seventy people, it will require two million eight hundred thousand won. Also, the one million two hundred thousand won required for preparing the rally, and if one is to buy even souvenirs, five million won is needed. Therefore, our Association must furnish five million won in expenses. Because they stay for a fortnight and go, without fail, about that much expense will be required. Therefore, the total expense is forty-seven million won.

Even if we subtract thirty million won from this, seventeen million won goes in. But the seats of the Citizens’ Hall are three thousand three hundred. Then if one divides seventeen million won by three thousand three hundred, the calculation comes out that filling one seat of the Citizens’ Hall costs an average of five thousand won in expenses.

That is why, if a hundred seats remain, five hundred thousand won is lost, and if a thousand seats remain, five million won is lost. Therefore, if one brings one person, it becomes earning five thousand won in a day. If one brings ten people, it is earning fifty thousand won. Only if I speak this way will it feel real to you.

If one brings twenty people, how much is it? It is earning a hundred thousand won. In Japan, they talk big about earning much money through the flower business, but we earn more than that. It means that if you try and have just twenty people attend, it is the same as having donated a hundred thousand won to the Association headquarters. It is worth doing, is it not? Is it worth doing, or not? “It is worth doing.”

Whose work is this? Is it the church’s work or the Teacher’s work? The Teacher need not work. Even if the Teacher dies now, I have gone all of my road. Then whose work is this? It is precisely your work. That is why I am doing this work while going into debt for the sake of my children, holding the heart (심정) of a parent. Has anyone, in holding this rally, known the Teacher’s mind and brought even a single coin? Probably if it were said that five thousand won would be given for bringing one person, all would do it well.

Now the Association headquarters is investing vast funds and doing such work. Then must you do such a thing that feels real once, or not? “We must do it.” One must go forward resolved upon death for the sake of these people.

If only the result of this rally is good, hereafter I intend to hold a great revival meeting. This time we have presented this much centering on our members; next I will rent the Citizens’ Hall and try holding a great revival meeting for a week. Does it feel good to you? “Yes.” Then for this rally I will furnish the money. You gather the people. This rally is a model case inside and out. So let us finish this rally splendidly and successfully and then hold the revival meeting.

The Method of Mobilizing Personnel

When this Asian rally is finished, at the end of May or the beginning of June, we will hold a world rally in Japan. With the world rally before us, we hold this rally as an interim operation. I will drive about ten nations together worldwide, but I will do it if this rally goes well; and if it goes badly, since it will be your fault, I will not take responsibility. Do you understand? “Yes.” Let us make it more than full.

Now the agencies come every day and worry, saying, “Will you people be able to fill that place?” The nation too is mobilizing personnel in its own way, centering on its agencies. The Minister of Home Affairs has given the order for even the neighborhood and precinct heads to attend the rally, and the KBS radio broadcast is also continuing to publicize it.

Because, among countless bodies, the Victory-Over-Communism Federation has suddenly appeared like a goblin in daylight and is active, they ask, “Just what kind of body are you? Are you really confident?” Seeing our work, people seem exactly like madmen, and the rally seems likely to go wrong. Furthermore, they would not mind if the person negotiating for the Citizens’ Hall were of good and large build, but because the small Choi Chang-rim goes back and forth, they feel displeased and glare. Even so, we kept going to meet them.

Now then, will people fill the Citizens’ Hall, or not? “It will be filled.” Will it not? “It will be filled.” The real thing must be louder than my voice. Will it be filled, or not? “It will be filled!” If your answer had been feeble, I was going to strike each of you once.

If you are struck by me, you cannot even go anywhere and complain. But though it hurts when you are struck, later, the more you think of it, the more grateful you will be. Just try, each one of you, bringing twenty people. See what happens. If one works relentlessly and about fifty die and it gets into the newspapers, one becomes famous; what else?

Then let us raise a beacon! Shall we raise it, or not? “Let us raise it.” I do not desire that. Then what of you? “We desire it.” If I oppose, you must go out even if you have to strike the Teacher down. It means you must run out. At that time, even if you slap the Teacher’s cheek, I will gladly take the blow. If you hold such a mind, there is promise.

Display all the abilities you yourselves have, and when you find people who have them, attend as quickly as possible. Since this rally begins at one o’clock, if the seats are all filled around half past twelve, those who come after that cannot attend. There is no need even to ask, “Why did you come late?” Do you understand? One must come in quickly before the time. After the seats are all filled, even if ten million people or all the citizens of Seoul are mobilized, they cannot get in.

Having done that, fifty is fine too. Even if it be a hundred, bring them. But if you bring people without saying that, you will all be beaten by me. Do not say until one o’clock, but say without fail that if they do not come by twelve or half past twelve, they cannot get in. This is a plus strategically. Do you understand? This is how one publicizes. Because I am the Teacher, I teach you that method. Playing the part of Teacher of the Unification Church is truly awkward too.

One must not merely hand out invitations and say, “They say to come by half past one.” What is “they say”? This time there is, without fail, something splendid as invited. Even when we do this, it means come if you will come and do not if you will not. So one must without fail say, “Come as quickly as possible. If you do not come before one o’clock, you cannot get in.”

Thereafter, bring not a hundred but even a thousand. I will take that responsibility. You just say those words and bring them. Then your responsibility is finished.

If, because there are many people, they are blocked from getting in, some person will say, “I am a person who came to the hotel from yesterday and has been waiting to attend this rally,” and another person will clamor, saying, “I came to attend this place, paying several thousand won and sleeping at an inn.” At that time one slips in a word, saying, “You can come here if you have only the bus fare, but there are people who came by airplane from the various nations of Asia and have already waited for several days. And yet, if the citizens of the host nation come late and act like this, will that do?”

Since your scope of activity is unlimited, centering on such content, bring as many people as you can. I greatly approve. At this rally, I will commend those who bring many. I will have them once eat a fine meal of bulgogi with rice. At that time, I do not want the aged. Even in a film, it is good when young people come out. They save that film. So they make it not a fake film but a real film. Then I will believe in you.

The Providential Significance of the Asian Victory-Over-Communism Rally and Our Goal

This rally has an important significance. Because the officers of the World Anti-Communist League will come and go to a rally held in Asia in the name of the Victory-Over-Communism Federation, a considerable issue will unfold in Asia.

You must know the fact that to raise things to such a position, we have, meanwhile, unknown to you, struggled inwardly behind the scenes and are achieving this much.

You have until now not known whether it is day or night. You do not know what the Teacher is doing. In that sense, unless you hereafter make an effort to be equipped with direction and keep pace with the movements of the headquarters and the church, you will retreat without knowing it yourselves. It means you become dropouts.

Since we have labored in pioneering this road anyway, we must hereafter welcome a time when we can labor and work together. Hoping that at that time you can stand in a position where you can become the center, I emphasize such words.

Therefore, centering on the new beacon raised this time, many things will unfold with the Seoul rally as the standard.

Student department head, have you fully prepared people to hand out the invitations? “Yes.” Go up to the top of Namsan and try training too. Let our young people take the lead and try it once. Must we not avoid having the elite corps of activists centered on Japan’s organization department head come and see and criticize or pity us? Is that not so? “Yes.”

Though the Teacher is carrying out a great operation with the world hereafter before him, because the Japanese government has moved here, the Korean government does not oppose. Therefore, since this Asian Victory-Over-Communism Rally has great significance, you must pray much for it.

This Jeju Island rally, as you all know, is a hunting rally. Why does the Teacher keep holding interest in such rallies? Hereafter, I intend to hold a worldwide hunting rally on Jeju Island. Men hold much interest in guns. They like guns. If one sets a ring and a gun here, the men take the gun, but the women take the ring.

So there is a saying I made up. Because a woman likes rings, she lives wearing them; because she likes to hang earrings, she lives hung; because she likes necklaces, she lives suspended. The Teacher is an expert at making such sayings. You, too, will be able to use this saying once as a good topic of conversation when you go to your workplace and guide the multitude, or in a place where many women are gathered. Men like guns. Because they like guns, they are bachelors.

If I had not become the Teacher of the Unification Church and had been active in society, I would have had truly many friends. But having become the Teacher of the Unification Church, I am a solitary single body without a single friend. Yet now I am not a solitary single body. Solitude has changed into abundance, and a single body has become ten thousand bodies. There is no such expression as abundant-solitude ten-thousand-body, is there?

Though the Teacher too has held a gun for more than ten years, a gun is a truly strange thing and a dangerous thing. Hereafter, the young people of the Unification Church must, if the North Korean communists invade, take up guns and go out and fight against them. The time of being driven back as in the past has passed. The theoretical principle is made to fit exactly. If they come out with force, we too must meet them with force. That is why I have invested vast funds in this. If they come out with force, we too must do it with force. Do you approve, or oppose? “We approve.”

Our goal is to smash the communists. He would never have dreamed even in a dream that a certain Moon, who had entered Hungnam prison, where he could do as he pleased, would go to the South and do such work. As I went in there, I held such a mind as this: “You rascals, wait and see in a few years; you high officers, I know all of what you are living by now. Wait and see.”

You wish to go once to the Teacher’s hometown, do you not? “Yes.” Do you wish to go, or not? “We wish to go.” Even if I do not wish to go, what of you? “We will go.” One must go. Even if I do not go, you must go. If one goes to my hometown, it is perfect. The Teacher, too, wishes to go once to his hometown. Hereafter, one must go to the hometown.

The Teacher is a person who went back and forth across the 38th Parallel. You, too, must cross the 38th Parallel. Because it must without fail be so, one must always be thoroughly armed ideologically. One must move Asia and go on moving the world. So because the question will arise of how to confront the Soviet Union and Communist China hereafter, we go forward centering on such questions.

President Park spoke this time about a plan for unification, but there is no distinct plan. What will be done hereafter? What will be done about the question of Asian security? It means he has no confidence. Hereafter, our enemy is Communist China. So one must think of how to prepare in Asia a new system that can confront that.

That is why how to unite the religions of the world is becoming the greatest question. For this, one must form an anti-communist line, taking the religions within the country and the religions of Japan as a framework. We are now preparing with such a strategy. Now you too go from underground onto the ground. Do you understand? “Yes.” In that sense, the Unification Church must become the vanguard and lead the way.

Gather Your Sincerity Materially and Spiritually and Invest It in This Will

It means, let us raise a beacon to the world beginning from the Unification Church. We have entered a stage where this is possible. Now, if you raise a ripple and this comes to spread, next you will be able to do anything with confidence. Such a time has come. If one cannot work at this time, all die. It means no further expectation can be placed upon you.

If you dislike doing even this, you must pack your bundle. If it is a seed sown by the Unification Church, which began with a refugee’s bundle, one must reap as one has sown. If one set out with hardship, one must harvest with hardship. If one began with a refugee’s bundle, one must succeed with a refugee’s bundle. That is why it means all of you should shoulder a refugee’s bundle and go out to witness.

Over there, Heo Bong-gu’s father has come. “Yes.” Well, how many people will you bring this time? “I will bring twenty people.” I will not bring even one person. I intend to watch and judge and evaluate what I have prepared until now. So when this rally is finished, I will give commendations. In giving commendations, the person who witnessed the most is in first place. Let us all put forth our whole strength and finish this rally successfully.

All of you, how is my necktie? Is it good or bad? “It is good.” I went out and bought this yesterday. Someone ought to have bought it for me. Though I dislike wearing a necktie, since I could not come out on New Year’s Day wearing the old one, I bought one. I thought that if there were a woman who knew how to think, she would at least buy me a necktie, but there was none. It is the same with the men. There was not one. So, reckoning that I have worthless children, crippled children, I went out yesterday and rummaged about and bought one. Is this good or bad? Only if you say it is good will no condition attach to you. Saying such a thing in a public place is like an utter fool, but I say it because you keep looking at the necktie.

When we look centering on our Will, the destiny of the people, the providential viewpoint, and the world situation woven inside and out, what the Teacher plans can all be achieved hereafter if we only cross a few crises. When it becomes so, the Teacher wins. It means that if we only cross a few crises, a perfect time comes.

The Japan church did well within its appointed sphere. That it laid such a foundation in the short period of one year and nine months has achieved a miracle unprecedented in Japan’s history. That is why we can hereafter make Japan our breakwater.

A time comes when, in Asia, Japan hereafter cannot but unavoidably stand in a subject position. Why? Because Eve fell, Japan, being a female nation, cannot but take responsibility for this as one naked.

In the Last Days, in our unified front, one cannot but take responsibility. One must undergo harsh wind and waves. It means the work is time-sensitive to the degree that one cannot but do it from a naked position. One must follow along rapidly.

For that, Taiwan is needed here, and Korea is needed. You will have seen through the newspapers the words emphasizing that in such circumstances, Taiwan and Korea must be in a plight of common destiny. It means the quickest road by which, centering on the Republic of Korea, one can move the Japanese economy, and Asia can be bound as one is only this road, and going this road is the safe course. That is why, knowing that the Teacher is carrying out such a strategy, you must gather your sincerity here and pray. Also, I hope that hereafter, in keeping pace with this, you will invest all your time and sincerity here materially and spiritually.
