Work in Silence, Without a Word
Cheonhwa Gung, Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A.
(Beginning the Hoon Dok reading of the speech entitled “Let Us Become Those Who Know God's Sorrow,” from Volume 3 of The Collected Speeches of Reverend Sun Myung Moon; …From Adam down through Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, what did all the prophets and ancient saints who came and went testify of to human beings upon this earth, and what did they introduce?)
The teacher has come forth, solitary and alone, to meet the Time of the Providence
Today is January 15, 2010. All things of creation and all beings of the entire cosmos must newly recognize this word given today, set up a new altar before the divine presence, and prepare an autobiography by which human beings shall give a direct account of themselves before Heaven. We are entering such an age. Do you understand what I am saying? Record it well.
When I consider it quietly, today is a special day. (Hoon Dok reading continues; The tower of devotion that God built up over 4,000 years with blood, sweat, and tears was about to collapse all at once, so that the work of re-creation had to be started afresh; the sorrow of the time of the Fall was thereby compounded into an inexpressible sorrow…)
It was during that period, as I see it, that Teacher was being raised. Why did I speak such words at that time? It was a decisive moment that came only once, and the heart (심정) I felt at that time accords with the heart with which I am speaking now. Christians do not even dream of this pass. They do not know that the highest fortress wall on the way to heaven must be crossed.
From the preparatory age of the Old Testament, Providence centered on the prophets before Jesus, who faced the people of Israel, and then from the Old Testament Era through the New Testament Era and on into the Completed Testament Era, Teacher has, throughout his entire life, solitary and alone, continued the whole of history. In so doing, I have linked together unbroken time and brought it down to this place.
Today is the evening of January 15, 2010, by the solar calendar. Is it not? “It is the early morning of the 16th.” So the evening has already passed. This is the very same hour as when I spoke those words.
The Providence has come to pass to align with that hour. You must also know this fact — that, to meet this pass at this very time, this year, solitary and alone, unknown to anyone, I have come this far.
It is not the case that everyone attended Teacher, protected Teacher's environment, taught Teacher the path the environment must walk, and protected him as I have come forth. Representing all this stripped-bare humanity, naked, with that very body that lived naked in Eden, Teacher set out.
A person from Gangwon-do has come here! “Yes.” (Park Won-geun) Do not forget this important hour. I am saying — do not forget the hour at which you came. It is the hour of Hoon Dok Hae, and it is seven minutes to three.
At this hour, a person from Gangwon-do has come here, and because this is the moment when Korea and the United States can be connected, I am urging on this pressing matter.
When Park Won-geun arrived here, the teacher established the Information Office. Centering on Heaven and Earth, the moment at which America could, on this earth, reorganize its Peace Army and, centering on Teacher, complete the True Parents UN and make a new start — that moment began last year, and a year has passed.
Today is the 16th, but remember the hour at which you participated in the Hoon Dok Hae that began on the 13th and continued through the dawn of the 14th. Just now, how could the content of the teacher's words read by the Hoon Dok reader correspond so exactly with the environment!
When one sees this, the will of Providence is something fearful and dreadful. It is the same as the moment when one crosses the single-track bridge guarding a fortress like the Great Wall on a difficult mountain peak. Bearing this in mind, you must set in order the heart with which you have participated in today's Hoon Dok Hae, and from the 16th onward, begin a new departure.
From tomorrow, in fact, you must set in order every aspect of this earth. I ask that you remember that this is the new era in which you must turn and walk a course altered in pace and angle of direction from the one along which you have been going. Everything is being recorded here so that even a thousand years from now, the teacher's words can remain.
You must keep these words in your innermost hearts and leave them to your descendants. We are hearing these words from a position in which the textbooks and instructional materials capable of sustaining things for a thousand years stand complete.
You must take charge of the textbooks and instructional materials and, in the teacher's stead, teach them to your descendants.
We Must Strengthen the Organization
D-Day stands nearly three years away. Today is the 16th, and next month the 14th is the first day of the lunar new year — so it is less than a month!
We must focus on the pivotal hour of the historical age. It is more important than the time of Noah. Do not forget — by any means — that this is the pivotal age in which we must soar up and cross over into the world of the liberation of the unified realm of Israel of Heaven and Earth! Let us continue with a grateful heart. (Hoon Dok reading continues.)
Yes — Teacher, in place of Jesus, crossed over the pass of the Providence in the body of a man in his thirties. These words are like a reenactment centered upon that hour. It is a moment hundreds of times, thousands of times more weighty than the time of Noah's judgment.
The hour has come when God can step forth with the gait of one liberated. You must know that this hour leaps across 2,000 years of history. It is the morning of January 16 in the 10th year of Cheon Il Guk.
How many years has it been since Teacher first spoke those words?
I was 35 or 36—so how long ago? At that time Teacher conveyed his words in hiding, going about in secret. Fifty-three years have passed since the days I conveyed the words in that way. Now, continue! “It has all been finished.” Then let Won-joo close in prayer.
Since Cho Jeong-soon and Park Won-geun have come, it is best to hear their reports without letting the hour pass.
To deeply recognize this hour, let us hear the reports of Park Won-geun, then Cho Jeong-soon. Now, pray. (After Jeong Won-joo's report-prayer, Cho Jeong-soon's report on her attendance at the Las Vegas “Latin Chamber”; …Reiko-san is making various plans, and as I stepped out actively to introduce Happy Health, I think the time will come hereafter when I can give the autobiography to such people as well.)
Reiko-san is the 17th- or 18th-generation granddaughter of Tokugawa Ieyasu (徳川家康). She is a woman who bears a name like that of a princess.
So this is a household that played the leading role in moving the bakufu world of Japan; failing to fulfill its responsibility in Japan after the defeat, it came here as though in flight. She knows the secret matters of the Tokugawa Ieyasu household. She is an important person. (Report continues)
Park Won-geun, you must work in oneness with this person. Do you understand, Park Won-geun? “Yes.” Place her under your command and work with her. She is Cho Jeong-soon's younger sister. Do you know a person called Dong-ho? “When I was in Wonju, he once came to the regional church bringing Happy Health.”
Knowing that, then, all of you must become one and strengthen the organization by stringing close ones along, one by one. We must bind together steadfast people from the top down. (Report continues)
Tokugawa Ieyasu and Toyotomi Hideyoshi — these two were the monsters who raised war against Korea. In olden days, what was the region centered on Buyeo of Baekje?
Elder Park's Jeondogwan was on the opposite side of the Han River, and that place was the land of Buyeo. It was the land of Baekje. The side across from Walker Hill was the land of Goguryeo.
Those Who Assert Themselves Cannot Remain
I knew about that land of Mangu-ri and bought it. It was over 700,000 pyeong; about a third has been lost. Around 460,000 pyeong remain. The mountain behind Walker Hill is our mountain. That stone mountain is a fine place where the rock can be broken up and made into gravel for concrete and sold. Hundreds of millions of pyeong of land can be turned into flat ground.
As the sand of the tideland is being depleted hereafter, the time will come when the rock of that mountain must be crushed and used as sand. So the teacher knew this in advance and bought it. I had intended to buy all of Jamsil. (Report continues)
So then, when the time comes to take up a course of faith equal to that of Abraham, what does it call for? At the time of the fire judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah, what was the name of the woman who became a pillar of salt?
When sulfurous fire fell on Sodom and Gomorrah, there was one who looked back as she fled and became a pillar of salt, was there not? “It was Lot's wife.” You must know all such history.
When I called Park Won-geun here, it was not to come and look around. Did we not recently establish the Information Office? You yourself, as its provisional head, must, taking the work you have been doing in Gangwon-do until now, carry it out here, centered on the Teacher's autobiography.
We must make it possible for the leadership of the U.S.A. and the UN to know how important the rally we held at COEX was. The foundation by which everything can be linked through [?: 주동문] or The Washington Times stands ready.
You said the other day that you intend to run for the National Assembly in Gangwon-do, but you alone are thinking such a thing. The teacher has not given any order. Do you understand what I am saying? “Yes.” Tell me a little of what was on your mind on the way here. We must know the work you have been doing in Gangwon-do. It is all right even if the hour grows late.
When you received your assignment here and went off to Gangwon-do, the thought you had was, “The work of Las Vegas has nothing to do with me!” — even that you must speak honestly so that it can serve as a reference by which those who are here can become co-workers and counterparts hereafter.
You must also do educational work in Hawaii together with Yoo Jeong-ok. Now, speak. (Park Won-geun's report; …In Korea now, externally, the conflict is extremely severe because of the Sejong City issue.
Such talk — I know better than anyone, because a government official came and personally made a request to us. You need not speak of such matters in detail. We are about to set up a Science and Technology Office, and the question is, who will become its center? Considered from that perspective, even if we remain still, things will come seeking us out.
I want to take charge of the ties with North Korea and the Chinese mainland ahead of the United States, and I believe there is no one but us who can open that path.
President Moon does not even dream of dealing with North Korea, centered on Korea, in such a way that the United States would drop off. If matters proceeded that way, both would be ruined. North Korea would vanish, and China would be ruined as well. America will not sit still.
Can you express yourself freely in English? “I studied in the English department at university, though somewhat late, but I cannot easily express my thoughts in a flowing way. Even now, I am wrestling with English books.” Kim Won-geun, how many years have you lived here? “I have lived here for 17 years.”
If you have lived here 17 years, you must speak English well — use it as needed. I am saying, have him interpret for you while you work.
If you find yourselves lacking, supplement the deficiency. We must not display the fact that we are Koreans; rather, since we stand in a position to educate the natives who have come and made their home here, we must, in our surroundings, uphold this person's position, protect him, and raise him — you must know this. Do you understand, Kim Won-geun? “Yes, I understand.”
If not for that, we could call in university professors from here and do all sorts of things. You must be able to stand at the top here and carry out the work of the Information Office. Bring people from Gangwon-do and educate them here.
Gangwon-do, Chungcheong-do, and Hwanghae-do. Centering on Gangwon-do, Hwanghae-do, and Chungcheong-do, then North and South Jeolla-do. I intend, while conducting Hoon Dok Hae here, to thoroughly pursue the work of distributing the autobiography.
That is why I intend to take in those who do not conduct Hoon Dok Hae well in the provinces, discipline them, and coordinate even with the CIA (U.S. Central Intelligence Agency), the KGB (the State Security Committee of the former Soviet Union), Korea's investigative bureau, the British, and the intelligence offices of the Second World War, and to establish relations from here. This is not for the sake of letting things go to nothing. We must move with our lives on the line.
When in the army, a commander gives an order, and the soldier's right to life and death is no issue. You must even go into the communist world and live the life of a spy, in hiding, for your entire life. Those who assert themselves cannot remain. Do you understand? “Yes.” From now on, I intend to discern people thoroughly and to raise them as officers who can receive the veneration of the people of the nation and of Heaven and earth. This is not done in jest.
Act with Bold Resolve
MGM, the Bellagio, the Mirage, the Venetian, the Mandalay Bay, the Silverton, and even South Point — I know them all well.
If Reiko moves, the financial conglomerates and the government of Japan can be hooked and reeled in with a gaff. If they will not listen, then through the CIA or KGB, the foundation formerly seized by raising the war long ago in the Pacific can be occupied instantly.
We must make it so that no one infringes upon the sphere of activity of the South and North Pacific. That a naval base must be built in the Solomon Islands, centered on Hawaii, is not a thing said in passing. All have a bond; the teacher even surveyed the ground without your knowing. They must be making preparations now, with more than three times the necessary funds given to them, to build a model embassy.
Do you have bold resolve? “Yes, whatever work it may be, I will do it.” Do not speak only with words; act with bold resolve. (Report continues; I called the central members and Ambassadors for Peace from PyeongChang, Yeongwol, Taebaek, and Jeongseon, and gave the Blessing explanation message at the Yeongwol church.
After that, centering on the Sokcho region, Gangneung region, Hongcheon region, and Wonju region, I did the same; then the central members of Yanggu, Hwacheon, and Cheorwon gathered at the Chuncheon church, and we held the Blessing explanation session from 1:00 to 1:30 in the afternoon, and then came on to Las Vegas….)
What I sought to do there is a starting point from which this man can come hereafter and show his mettle. You cannot stay here at ease.
If I command you to dash out even at dawn, you must go out; if I tell you to gather by some river somewhere, you must gather. Hereafter, what must we do if some incident breaks out? A day like today in Las Vegas is a commemorative day.
Where is the place where tens of thousands are dying and there is a tumult because of an earthquake right now? It is Haiti, is it not? “Yes.” We must support Haiti from here with thousands. I was the one who had hoped that we would be able to announce that we are raising tens of millions of won to support them. But the moment has been missed. Do you understand what I am saying? You must do such work.
Not only the veterans of the United States and Korea, but a Peace Army and a Police Corps, and then international armies and police corps as well, must be at our command. When we become a new UN, we will at once raise a fundraising movement centered on the wealthy.
We must not do it piecemeal. We will form, for instance, an assembly of former and incumbent presidents of nations. We will say to them, “In helping in this age of competition, Heaven also wishes this, so let you yourselves set the model and do it!”
On the day when the nations of the six continents — 194 Abel nations — combine and each assesses a certain sum, we must, without fail, see to it that the executives of the presidents pay. We can mobilize the military for such work. The communist party mobilizes the military as it pleases. The nation of Israel handles the military as it pleases.
If in America the presidents of 194 nations resolve to do it, who can oppose? We must advance to that point. Only then, I believe, will the foundation come about by which we can accomplish the will we desire. Do you understand? “Yes.”
This evening, I called you all out early on purpose. You ought to have prepared Hoon Dok Hae before coming here, but did Dong-ho not come only after Hoon Dok Hae was finished? “I did contact him…”
What do you mean, contact?
You must take a man and bring him in yourself. You cannot work that way! “Yes.” We must become an organization more fearsome than the army. If I have no foundation here, I may not come at all. Without a foundation, how can the work be done? In the realm of religion, beginning with Christianity, how many people are there who hate President Moon? Listen well. (Report continues)
You Must Work in Consultation, Like Twin Brothers
Park Won-geun, how old are you? “Sixty-two by the family register.” Then you are the elder brother! And here he is, fifty-eight or so, is he not? “I, too, am sixty-two.” Then who is the elder? “My birthday is the eighth day of the first lunar month, so my birthday is probably earlier.” (Park Won-geun) That being so, regard one another as elder brother and as twins. I am saying, work in consultation — consult with each other. When the time comes for me to depart, even without my interfering and giving orders this way and that, such a system must function automatically.
Do you know how many tens of thousands of people from Japan are taking part in this Blessing? Have you not heard the news? Everyone has been told. How many has Gangwon-do prepared? “I do not remember precisely, but Gangwon-do has around 1,600 couples.”
Even 1,600 couples — that is nothing! Korea has more than 17,000 people. We must gather as many as 20,000. You must prepare centered on your own kin. We must always be preparing it; who is going to prepare it for you?
The hour has now come when the Teacher must go to the spirit world, and I must drive these things through before going. How many Blessings have been done here? Cho Jeong-soon! “Yes.” Even if you gathered your own five siblings and concentrated, I have thought, it would be difficult to prepare.
How many couples will you do from here?
Are you going to leave it to Reiko? We must do it in our own way. From now on, we must lay that foundation. If we proceed in the teacher's manner, we can sweep it all clean.
Take a volume like this — Pyeonghwa-ui Juin, Hyeoltong-ui Juin (Owner of Peace, Owner of Lineage) — and distribute it. We can do it on any scale, even by taking out a loan from the bank. How long does this take? “About 45 minutes. You mean the time for the Hoon Dok reading?” It must all be distributed. And this time, it is not just anyone who participates here. Only those who have been specially designated must take part.
For the publication and distribution of the seven-volume textbook, the tribal heads must consider arranging financing not merely tenfold but a hundredfold, and lending the expense to be used. It is a living offering of devotion. It is not a sacrifice. I have said to deposit it in the bank — why do you not do so? If you deposit it, some percentage of it can be borrowed back from the bank by resolution of the board. If 30 percent of the reported amount is needed, 30 percent can be borrowed and used.
This is used under the protection of the Unification Church, standing as witness, and the present government and the UN itself, standing as guarantor. Do you think President Moon is going to pay your educational expenses? He cannot pay the costs.
What money do I have so much of that I can pay it?
Park Won-geun, too, in Gangwon-do — if you cannot raise the cost of putting yourself forward centered on the Park clan, that will not do. (Report continues; Father, I will obey your word to come to Las Vegas and work. But if you would give me a choice, I would still wish once more to work in Korea, raising a storm…)
I Sought the Front Lines, Not Villages of Comfortable Rest
If you take a plane, you can get there in a single evening any time. In seven or eight hours, you arrive — what is there to worry about? “Yes, I will go back and forth, then, and do the work.” Centering on the American continent, we held weekly rallies on the East Coast and the West Coast. The kind of thing where, full-bellied, one carouses about — that amounts to nothing. It just flows away.
Even when the teacher departs, just as when he was present, you must go forward, attending Park Won-geun as your elder brother. Attend to him as your elder brother and obey absolutely. What is there that you cannot do? If you bow down, saying you cannot do it, I will not forgive you. Do you understand? “Yes.”
In going around to the hotels here, you go according to the list — there must be no one who does not know Happy Health and the autobiography. We must create an atmosphere of driving away anyone who does not know.
Otherwise, there will be no ground upon which Heaven can protect this city. We ourselves must create that ground. Do you understand what I am saying? “Yes.” “I will finish my report.” Welcome it with applause. (Applause)
Should you not state your resolution?
(Report continues; I still desire, taking the rough wind, rain, and arrows of the wilderness, to become a commander and to fight. I had wanted to do so in Gangwon-do, Korea, but since Father's command is solemn and you wish me to do this, I will regard this Las Vegas as a barren wilderness, do my utmost, and fight even at the cost of being covered in blood….) Welcome it then with applause. (Applause) Do well.
When you are here and the teacher is no longer, do not think that you yourselves brought the teacher with you. Did you attend Teacher Alone? You wish to attend to him comfortably, but those who are truly on the front lines attend to the teacher better than anyone. I sought the front lines many times, but I did not seek villages of comfortable rest. Because some elder was there, because some place had been around a long time, I did not visit them on that account. When such people set out, they make introductions centering on their church.
What has the Christian faith to do with us? Knowing not even a hundredth part of the contents of the Teacher's autobiography, do they say that Unification Church President Moon must be done away with?
Where are such madmen to be found?
People who know nothing of me would not even speak in such a way. I am saying — is it conceivable that anyone would think such things about a person who is invited by the kings and presidents of the world and travels to every nation as a state guest?
So — work in silence, without a word. I work without words. They have no idea what I am doing right now. Why do I go every dawn to the gambling halls here? If you go into the toilets in those gambling halls, do you know how foul the stench is? The smell of cigarettes, every kind of stench imaginable. I do not go because I enjoy such smells.
To a clean spring, to bathe…. When I was living in Hungnam Prison, I did not so much as wash my hands in the water that came out of the factory. I am saying I did not wash my body. I have never let anyone see this flesh of mine. Even Mother did not know of it.
If I do not speak of it, how would even Mother know?
Even if everyone opposes, I alone must walk the path I must walk. Mother and Father cannot help me. I made up my mind and left this mark upon my body, and this mark knows me and protects me.
If, while this mark remains, I suffer until it is gone, then the world, the nation, comes alive. (Report continues; The thought arose in me that, just by bringing in this book, the evil spirits depart…) The evil spirits depart. At birthday celebrations or commemorative days, you read it out. It must be read out without fail. Then they depart! (Report continues; I laughed as I thought to myself that this becomes a tiger of the Savior and an autobiography that drives out and educates the evil spirits of the land of Korea and the evil spirits of the spirit world….)
Whoever Has a Fire Burning in His Heart of Hearts Will Do
Better than the autobiography, it is the ancestors who come forth and supervise. The moment you give them the Blessing of the Tribal Messiah, they stand guard. They will say, “Who do you think you are, coming onto our land? Having left fallen bloodlines behind and thrown even the spirit world into confusion — who do you think you are, coming here?”
You must inspect yourselves in this way, stand upon the discerned ground, and hasten your preparation to attend Heaven. You must make this preparation. Those who cannot do this will be driven out.
I intend to gather such people on a worldwide scale. Not just people of Gangwon-do. Not just Koreans. I intend to gather people of Japan, Germany, and Italy, and of Britain, America, and France.
If Korean, the education must be received in Korea. (Report continues: In two years, there will be a general election. The National Assembly elections will be held in earnest….) Other things — do not think of elections! “Understood.”
That is the responsibility of the ancestors. Even if you yourself wish to become a National Assembly member, it will not do. I did not let even Bo Hi Pak run for the National Assembly. “It was because I wanted to attend Father at Yeouido.” Yeouido is a marketplace — where would one live there? “Korean politics must be changed.” It is Heaven that changes it. You yourselves cannot change it. Heaven must step forward.
God must step forward, but God does not step forward. He does not step forward for the likes of you. Because I have come here and tried to do the work, He has had no choice but to follow along. Do all the Blessings of the ancestors. Have one person do 470 couples. Pray that you will give the marriage Blessing even to those in the spirit world. There are now 6.5 billion of mankind, are there not?
What is there to do here?
If President Moon is the returning Lord, then anyone who would seek to meet the returning Lord would come and seek him out, even selling his funds and his nation, would he not? — So what is there to worry about?
Whoever has a fire burning in his heart of hearts (사무친 마음) will do. (Report continues: With a new heart and a new spirit, I will pray about how I must work here, and, taking counsel with those who came before me and holding consultations, I will do my utmost to pioneer….) Pioneering — we have been pioneering all this while, and now you speak of pioneering again? It is to continue the work that has been done.
Who is it that adds the heat?
Without the spirit that says, “I will invest one hour more, one penny more than the rest,” coming first, you can speak with your mouth all you like, and it will not be believed. I think this way.
This is twenty pages — read it in place of Hoon Dok Hae. Hereafter, you must hold Hoon Dok Hae diligently. (Hoon Dok reading of the subsections from “The Textbook That Teaches All Things” to “When the Departure of the Absolute Family Comes Forth,” in Pyeonghwa-ui Juin, Hyeoltong-ui Juin (Owner of Peace, Owner of Lineage).) These are the textbooks and instructional materials.
Only when you love the textbooks more than you love the babies do you educate the babies. The question is whether this can actually become so. Just as parents shed tears when they make a quilt for the baby, so too when you take hold of the book to educate, do likewise.
A Good Remedy for Releasing the Heat
Going in now, at what hour shall you rise? “Father must sleep about three hours.” What time is it now? “It is now 5:20.” So, eating after 8:00, and going out at 9:30 will do! It will have to be 10:00.
Since I am going out at 11:00, it will not work. 5:20? “Yes, 5:20.” Waking at 9:00? “Yes, you will rise at 9:00, then receive a bit of massage….” There will be no time for a massage. We must rise quickly and do the massage.
The way Jong-ho does the massage now is good. He works on the exercises one did from infancy as one was growing. He works inside and out, not only on the parts that are needed. He works the whole.
Doing it that way these days, the heat — where does it escape?
It should escape through the head, but since there is no hair on my head, it is discharged through the fine hair on the arms, and you cannot imagine how it itches.
Look here. I scratched, and scratched until it bled! On these darkened spots, I scratched until blood came. That was the discharge of heat. It itched so badly that I scratched, and my whole body bears these dark marks. Bloodstains have appeared. Why are such things present? It is the heat being released. When I rise from sleep, there is no saliva in my mouth. It is because the body is dry.
So we have the lip balm we apply to the lips. When I put on the ointment, it actually discharged all the heat. One ought to drink water because the tongue feels coated, but with this, it is no longer necessary. The lips, too, because the heat is drawn off, do not chap.
For some five or six years since I began applying that ointment, no matter how exhausted I have been, my lips have absolutely not chapped. The gums had been swelling, but they no longer swell, and even the ringing of the teeth when they struck together is gone.
That ointment is truly a fine thing for discharging heat. If something else itches, applying it will quiet it. The heat is being released. Heat arises because the blood does not circulate and things stagnate; the heat arises, and what was chapping and so on — when the ointment is applied, it is released.
Will you sleep until 9:00 then? “We, too, will rise at once and prepare as our Parents prepare.” Sleep until 8:30, then eat at 9:00. Come out at 9:00, eat, and have it so that we can go out at 10:00. By 10:00, even the government offices are all at work. Sleeping too long will not do. (Bow)
