Our Attitude Toward the Enemy

Former Headquarters Church.

Today is December 4, 1966, the first Sunday we greet in the last month of this year.

Considering the Will, our Unification Church family members have until now made vows staking their lives and have run forward, resolved to go for the Will even at the cost of sacrificing all that is their own.

Such days have, before we knew it, flowed by for six years.

The Principle of Establishing Good

The Teacher knows well that, meanwhile, you have had stories you could open up to no one about and have carried tragic circumstances that could be shared with no one.

What is the cause of your having come to stand in such a position?

It is because you pledged to cooperate in fulfilling the remaining Will of Restoration and to accomplish the providence for these people. And so, by that covenant of vows, we have walked this road until now. Therefore, we have something to say to these people.

Furthermore, even facing the three billion people of humanity, we have much to say. And further still, even going before God Himself, we have something to say.

It is a fact that, while pioneering this path of the Will, there were many who confronted us as enemies. But at the present stage, where the Unification Church has laid such a foundation and, with Korea as its base, is pioneering worldwide, should we still treat such people as enemies?

Should we take the position that, because we are personally aggrieved, we must at all costs vent that grievance? We must think about this problem once again.

People are bound, on the last day of a passing year, to look back upon the year gone by. At such times, people generally think first of the joyful things. It is a heart everyone alike feels, to recall that in such a month, at such a time, there was an unforgettable joy, and to think by whom that joy was brought about, and to wish to have the person connected with that matter share in that joy.

A human being wishes to boast not of the joyful matter itself, but of the person who took part in the joyful matter. On the other hand, everyone alike, when there is a sorrowful matter, the greater that sorrow is, the more one wishes to remove it.

To boast of the good and to seek to remove the sorrowful and painful has become an inevitable principle in the historical process of establishing good. This is the same in religion, which discerns good and evil and establishes true good; and we know well that this principle holds in common through the present social system and across any historical social environment.

Until now, in the course of pioneering this road—in his individual life, family life, and communal life, and in facing the people centered on an ideal, and in seeking to go forth toward the world stage—the Teacher knows well that there are countless enemies.

Moreover, in walking the final road that is the most wretched in human life and that everyone most dislikes, even when, being blamed and derided, the aggrieved and indignant heart was about to explode all at once, because he knew he must endure, it became a stimulus by which today’s Unification Church could grow, and it also became an emblem of sorrow. This he knows well.

Now we must completely remove the enemy from Heaven and Earth. This is the Principle.

If there is an enemy of one’s parents, one must avenge the enemy of one’s parents; if there is an enemy of one’s clan, one must avenge the enemy of one’s clan; if there is an enemy of one’s people, one must avenge the enemy of one’s people. And if there is an enemy who gnaws at the world, that enemy too must be avenged.

Even God, before that blazing heart of public indignation, comes to hold a heart that cannot pardon.

You must know that this is heavenly law. You must know the fact that, whether a religious person or a worldly person, regardless of high or low station, regardless of position or conduct, this heavenly law has governed and judged history.

However sorrowful, lonely, and aggrieved one may be, our Unification Church believers must know that, though this law exists for those who today walk the path of the Way, it is as yet a law held in reserve.

However much one may curse, dislike, and wish to avenge the enemy, it is the common lot of one who walks the path of the Way not to stand in a position where one can lose one’s whole heart and resist.

In a fallen society, even if the position one might occupy is lowered or is stripped away, and one is expelled, one cannot there draw the sword and avenge the enemy.

Even when driven out, one had to be driven out in silence; and even in the place where the people betrayed, one had to go in silence.

When one ran up against an environment that pushed one out of the flow of the historical age, one had to be pushed out without a word.

You must know that it was the road of religious people to grope through such a course of much sorrow in history.

The Path of the Way, Which Must Be Walked in Silence

You will remember the words Jesus spoke upon the cross. Saying, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34), Jesus prayed earnestly before God.

Jesus did not pray this way because he did not know the content. It was not because Jesus himself did not love the people, nor because he was on the side of the betrayers of the people (背逆者).

Nor was it because he was in a position of being unable to make clear God’s law of heavenly law. It was solely because the time had not come.

Even in the position where the Roman soldiers pierced his side with the point of a spear, because the time had not come when he could avenge that enemy, Jesus had to embrace them until that time came; and we must not forget the sorrow of Jesus, who had to endure and suffer it though he knew.

The Teacher proclaimed the seven-year course centered on 1960. At that time, our church was in a period of trial. Even when, along with the blame of society pouring in from all sides, we ran up against an environment caught in the sweeping storm of trial, where not a single thread of hope could be found, the Teacher did not command us to resist the multitude and fight.

God exhorted, “Have the smiling face of Esther. Have a face that can accept whatever ill-treatment it receives. Have a face that, though sorrowful, is not sorrowful. Have a face that, though aggrieved, can forget that grievance.

When you are indignant and indignant, endure with the resolve that you can forget that you were ever born.” When we look back upon such facts, you must know the fact that God could not but come forth as He has today.

To Subjugate the Enemy

If the Teacher, holding personal feelings, were to avenge his enemies, there are many he could strike down in a single blow, but the day for avenging enemies has not yet come. Because God, gazing toward the day of hope, endures long and goes forward, you must know that we too must endure.

When we look at how hard things have been for the Unification Church, though we wish to lose all at once, before brothers, relatives, the social groups opposed to us, the nation, and the great world, all the feeling that had pierced us with indignation, you must know that it is not the time when we can do so.

When we look back upon the heart of Restoration, considering Cain and Abel before God, Cain was Abel’s enemy. Considering Noah’s family, all but Noah’s family were, before Noah’s family, enemies.

In Abraham’s time, likewise, all but one man, Abraham, were enemies.

In setting up the people of Israel and passing through the Egyptian course as well, for well over four hundred years, they groaned in the enemy’s nation and suffered hard labor. Though it is said that, since Jesus came to this earth, the Will of providence has been set up for two thousand years until now, that too was a world of the enemy. In this way, because the responsibility of entering the world of the enemy and subjugating it remained, God has endured until now.

That enemy is not a personal enemy. Nor is it the national enemy of one Jewish nation. Nor is it the enemy of either side in the democracy-communism divide.

This enemy is the great enemy that ruins the world and ruins Heaven and Earth.

To place this enemy upon the world stage and avenge him—gazing toward that day—is the path of Restoration.

Today, our Unification Church members long for the day when the Will will be accomplished. Though you resolve in your hearts that the worldwide Will, the Will all people pursue, the Will that Heaven and earth alike desire, must be accomplished quickly, to accomplish that Will is impossible centered on your individual selves alone.

It is impossible, centered on the one organization of the Unification Church, and impossible, centered on the Korean people alone. It is also impossible even by rallying the nations of Asia. It is accomplished only by solving the enormous problem of being able to rally the whole world and unite the spiritual world in Heaven.

To accomplish this, Will, one must subjugate Satan, the historical enemy, the worldwide enemy—not subjugate him by gun and sword, but bring him to voluntary submission. Gazing upon this enormous responsibility, God has driven out countless religious people until now.

Sacrifice One Hundred Percent

What was the purpose of sacrificing the individual as an offering?

It was not to avenge the individual’s enemy, but to open the road that the people must walk by sacrificing the individual.

That is, through the sacrifice of the individual, to open the road that people must walk. And to sacrifice the people is to open the road for the nation in which those people live; and to sacrifice the nation is to open the road for the world. Because God carries out the providence of restoration in this way, it is an undeniable fact that the road walked by the people of Israel, who come forth holding the sphere of victory within Heaven’s sphere of dominion, must be wretched.

God does not, because an individual He set up stood on a victorious standard; therefore, judge the whole, who did not stand on a victorious standard, on his account.

Just as when a single grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it bears much fruit, God means to sacrifice one person and reap a hundredfold, a thousandfold harvest.

Therefore, it is: “Sacrifice gently, sacrifice gently.” It is: “Sacrifice one hundred percent without regret.” When one does so, like a single grain of wheat, one reaps not merely a hundred percent but more than that.

When God comes seeking each one of you, He wishes to seek the individual and set him in the position of a victor.

Then what must that individual do?

He must overcome Satan, the enemy who has followed the individual. Do you think God will get rid of Satan? He leaves Satan remaining.

Beyond the personal enemy, there remains the family enemy, a greater enemy; beyond the family enemy, there remains the enemy of the people, greater still; beyond the enemy of the people, there remains the enemy of the state, greater still; beyond the enemy of the state, there remains the worldwide enemy, greater still; and beyond even the worldwide enemy, there remains the great enemy who has ruined Heaven and earth, greater still.

Therefore, however well the individual has avenged the family enemy, the enemy of the people remains. However well one has avenged the enemy of the people, there is no way to block the enemy that appears by betraying the state.

Even if the people raise the banner of victory high and sound their authority and their song of triumph resoundingly before the whole world, national victory alone cannot be an eternal victory. Beyond national victory, the enemy of the state remains, and even if one has won a victory for the state, it does not end with the victory of the state, for the worldwide enemy remains.

Even if one has won a worldwide victory, we must know that there remains the enemy who pierced Heaven and earth to the marrow with han, the wicked archfiend enemy who holds the authority of the whole universe.

However well one has avenged the lesser enemies, one comes to stand in a position where one cannot win complete victory without avenging that enemy.

Even if one has avenged the personal enemy, if that person does not win victory in the age when he must avenge the family enemy, the first sword strikes him. And even if there is one who has avenged the family enemy, on the day he becomes the loser on the battlefield for avenging the enemy of the people, he is struck first.

On the day one is struck, it is all for nothing. All beings connected with it cannot but shed blood. And even if there is one who has avenged the enemy of the people, when he fights the enemy of the state and fails to set up the authority of victory and to equip the foundation of good, he is opposed and struck by all people.

How Loyal Have We Been Before God?

Because such a law of heavenly law remains, God said, “Endure! Endure,” he said, to endure even when entering the place of being sacrificed on the cross and to endure until the last moment of one’s fate, blood flowing from hands and feet and one collapsing.

Jesus’ sorrow was God’s sorrow; Jesus’ hardship was God’s hardship; and there is no likelihood that God would welcome the death of the only begotten Son whom He loved—so why would God have said only, “Endure”? You must know that meaning well.

Because in Jesus’ time the condition for avenging the worldwide enemy was not established, Jesus must come again. And so you must know that God, setting Christianity before Him, has come running day and night with miraculous development. In the course of coming forth in this way, countless people were sacrificed.

Countless sorrowful spirits (哀魂) called forth the future nation of victory, the world of victory. They walked for the sake of a kingdom of peace where Heaven and earth could gently dwell and find rest.

Yet have human beings ever lived in a homeland that greeted such a day, on any single day?

Has Christianity ever once pledged that it would go to such a world? And has there ever been a word of God saying He had seen such a world on any single day? Because there has not, the final great fight remains.

In that fight, everything must be included. To seek and set up such a final single day, how the tangled bonds of history have been driven and buffeted, colliding on all sides, east, west, south, and north, and gone round enduring how much buffeting!

From this vantage point, when one quietly sets oneself down and considers—if I, called before God, had not died for six thousand years, but had lived from the age of individual struggle through the ages of family, people, national, and worldwide struggle, and faced the Will of the providence—have you considered how loyal a being my one self would have become before God? It is impossible.

You must know that God, dragging this way and driving that way a throng apt to believe today and betray tomorrow, to have them equip a new worldwide form centered on Christianity, has paid a sacrifice of blood beyond what you can imagine.

People today think that they are living in an environment where they can enjoy a comfortable life through developed civilization that came about by their merit or by the merit of their forebears of a few generations back. But that was achieved by passing through countless crisis roads behind history. Though this may look, to the eye, various and split into disunity, you must know that, because Heaven was aiming at a single purpose, any individual or any people came to stand in such a place.

Yet that person cannot forever stand in such a place, and that person cannot forever enjoy the glory of such a place.

You must know that when they forget the historical fact by which they came to be placed in such a position, the day of the final judgment comes to call them.

The Unification Believers Who Must Cross the Crisis-Road of Endurance

When the Teacher set out the Unification Church, he was resolved that the closest people would become enemies. Enemies in one’s individual life are easy to bear.

The enemy that appears in an individual place is nothing.

Who will fulfill the responsibility of attending God and bearing the fate of all humanity and the fate of the Cosmos, standing at the very forefront of the world, avenging the enemy that appears in that place?

It is a problem to consider. The one who must do this is only the Son of God, the Messiah, who can rule this Heaven and earth. That is why the thought of the Messiah is necessary.

Then what must the Messiah be like?

On the crisis road of history full of han, he must know how to endure. And he must know how to take part in his accord in the groaning of history full of han and be able to go of his accord even into the place of tragic misfortune full of han and must pass through the position of an owner who can digest it as his own.

If this is a fact, then the Messiah who is to come hereafter absolutely cannot come amid glory. If he should come so, he is a false Messiah. The coming Messiah must be a responsible one who, even running up against historical tragic misfortune, does not vanish in the flow of history but tramples history and rises above it and can face and win victory boldly over the worldwide enemy.

The reason the Teacher says such a thing today is that, since there are many of our family members in Japan, among the family members, there seems still to remain a historical feeling between the Korean residents and the Japanese people. It is that the yellow dye, if yellow, and the blue dye, if blue, have not yet washed out.

The problem is how to erase the thought that this blue dye and yellow dye have nothing to do with oneself—the notion that this yellow is mine and that blue is yours.

The enemy that Heaven must avenge does not appear over against one nation such as Japan or Korea. To strike this enemy, the whole world must become one.

And so Jesus too said to all the believers who followed him, “I am the vine, ye are the branches.” (John 15:5) That is, he said they are one body.

You must know that God has longed for those branches to stand not as branches captive to an environment where some individual can be glad, but as branches by which the world and God can be glad.

Therefore, today’s Unification Church is not a matter of the relation between nation and nation. You must know that, however much Japan by itself strikes the worldwide enemy, the worldwide enemy comes again.

The Enemy’s Heart Must Be Loosened

Since the Unification believers have come to know God’s Will, they must walk the road of endurance for the sake of the final single day God desires. Even if there is a crisis road that is exchanged for one’s own life, one must endure and cross over.

That place of enduring is not a place of betraying God and forgetting God’s longing and the whole responsibility God desires. You must go, gently holding the Will and thinking in silence, to the place of establishing that Will.

We are bodies called for the sake of the final single day. Now, in December 1966, the time has come. If there are bonds knotted among the Unification Church family members, they must be loosened. As the same seed that dies together if it dies and is beaten together if it is beaten, we are a throng that must undergo trial together and hardship together.

We must be agreeing with one another. And so, whatever is knotted—of the individual, if an individual, of the family member, if a family member—formed upon this earth centered on Satan, must be loosened. And what is knotted before the coming people, nation, and world must be burst open.

Then how is this burst open?

To burst this open, it is not solved by the victory of my one self alone, taking my one self as the standard. First, one must rally family and acquaintances. To bring national victory, one must rally the clan; to bring the victory of the state, one must rally the people. And to bring worldwide victory, one must rally the nations. Therefore, a worldwide religion must appear quickly.

A religion that, centered on its own individual self, values only itself, has no development. A religion in which, though receiving unusually much persecution, the individual and the whole cooperate and fight their way forward, develops. Paul went around the region of Asia Minor and witnessed; in that sense, God called and set him up.

We must not avenge enemies over trivial problems. We must loosen them. If there is a problem among us, we must solve it among ourselves. Until now, the established churches have treated the Unification Church as an enemy. The Teacher does not regard them as enemies, yet they treat us as enemies.

Whether a brick wall or a concrete wall, all of it must be torn down. If they would take away all the members of today’s Unification Church, let them take them; but in exchange, open the door of the heart.

They treat us like enemies, but we must not be so. Whoever wins, as time passes, the enemy too flows away. One who harbors an enemy’s heart must loosen that heart. One who carries an enemy can go into the bright day. When it is so, watch who becomes the owner. In the Last Days, the bundles will be exchanged.

Therefore, we must make our resolve for the final single day to come, that is, the day when we must avenge the worldwide enemy, the enemy of the history of the Cosmos.

Therefore, toward the den of corruption, the den of the betrayer, we must prepare and go into each field. Until that time, we must endure and go. Such a road is the road Heaven normally walks. Therefore, one must be wholly sacrificed and sacrifice for the sake of the greater, serve for the sake of the greater, and work for the sake of the greater. From that vantage point, to pave the road is the road of faith.

The people of the world say of the Teacher of the Unification Church, “Ah, if you go to that Unification Church, they only make you suffer.” But the Teacher does not think so. One who suffers for the Teacher’s sake is a fool.

If one did so, one ought to perish. If one is loyal only for the sake of the Unification Church, one ought to perish. If one is loyal only for the sake of the church, one ought to perish.

Is God’s providence a providence for the church?

No. It is a providence for the world. The Unification Church, too, must be for the nation, for the world, for Heaven, and for earth. More than being for one’s own church first, one must be for Heaven and earth.

Otherwise, that place will perish when the time comes for Heaven and earth to be established, when the time of judgment comes.

That Jesus forgave his enemies upon the cross, too, was not because those enemies were lovely to him. Knowing that a greater enemy would come hereafter, and to settle this with that as the focal point, for the sake of that day, the day Heaven desired, he resolved his heart in silence and forgave his enemies.

God, Who Has Not Greeted a Joyful Day

God has not yet had a joyful day. Though God is the Creator who created all things, He has not had a joyful day that He could boast of for all ages.

Why was that?

In the course of history, when an individual led a people and brought national victory, God rejoiced for a moment. But because that joy could not become a joy that runs consistently through history, moves Heaven and earth, and can be praised on high, centered on Heaven and earth, that joy ended as the joy of a single moment. Such joy is a joy that flows away, a joy that can turn to sorrow tomorrow.

God set up Adam, but he failed. So he set up Noah again and rejoiced, but he too failed. So He set up Abraham and rejoiced, but he too failed; and He set up Moses again, but he too failed, and so He sent Jesus.

Yet, even though Jesus did not accomplish the Will, God has not, until now, greeted a completely flawless, joyful day. Of course, He also took joy in saving individuals one by one, but He has not reached the highest joy that God desires.

Then what must you do?

If one pours all one’s energy into the individual, God blesses that individual; if one pours energy into the family, He blesses that family.

What we do is precious because it is for the greater good, more than for the Unification Church. And because it is for the greater good more than for me, we seek to set up a ladder and climb.

Because God desires this, we must quickly greet the day when we can avenge that final enemy. Unless one avenges the enemy and wins victory, the Messiah cannot be born.

Was the Son of God originally arranged to be born in an enemy world?

Is it not the law of heavenly law that the Messiah is born only after all enemies are swept away and a kingdom of peace is made?

Until then, God must fight. But God does not fight for His own sake. He fights in place of the road we must walk to bring about for us the Kingdom of Heaven in which we can live.

Then what must you do to enter the Kingdom of Heaven?

All must become one.

When individuals gather and form an organization, it is the same as a clan that has passed beyond the family. Therefore, you are the unified clan. It is the Unification body that has come forth equipped with a clan-level bond higher than the position of the individual and higher than the position of the family.

When one seeks to break this, one is caught by the condition of individual judgment, caught by the condition of family judgment, and caught also by the condition of clan judgment.

God told Christians, or religious people, to endure and hold out to the very end. And so, when the great final day of judgment arrives, He asked them to hold the authority of victory that is caught in no condition. Only by holding such authority of victory can one freely come and go before God.

We must not forget that God has set up the great day of judgment to greet the day when, in a free and equal place with no obstacle whatever, He can answer back and forth with us human beings.

The Throng That Is Centered on Itself

Therefore, you must know clearly.

If there is, among today’s Unification Church members, a throng centered on itself, it is a great enemy before the Will. These are satanic offspring worse than dogs and pigs. There are people who, centered on the individual, gather to pray about something, or crowd about, or dream absurd dreams—let us watch what becomes of them all. That is all the fortune of the age. You must know clearly, clearly. The very essence of their faith is wrong. To exalt oneself and treat others so is not the law of heavenly law.

Unification believers must reject such things, staking their lives. Such a throng is a preeminent inner vanguard of the enemy in deciding victory or defeat on the stage where we must fight.

They assert themselves before the nation God desires. One who regards as enemies the people going toward the original nation, to set himself up before the original nation, is Satan.

You must know this problem. It is not that you should avenge the enemy, but that you should not make contact at all with such a person. Each of you has a more urgent problem: the road you yourself must walk.

When you leave the sanctuary in the morning, it is the path of Restoration to gaze upon the people and be concerned, and, going beyond the problem of the people, to gaze upon the problem of the world and be concerned, and to go forward concerned for God’s Will.

We must go forward concerned about how we may quickly greet the final single day. Only then does it become a unified world.

To rally into a single world, one cannot but pass through the struggle of doctrines and ideologies. To pass through this process of struggle, countless individuals, clans, peoples, and nations must be mobilized.

A religion that does not hold the authority of victory can rally and lead democracy and communism into one and hereafter receive judgment before history.

A religion of the kind whose doctrine—which that religion regards as most thoroughgoing—is provoked by the ideologies of democracy and communism cannot attain the purpose of the final judgment and cannot bear the responsibility of avenging the great enemy.

Therefore, the ages must cross over, circumstances come to be buffeted, and countless ideologies and doctrines collide.

If there is a religion that, passing through such an environment and being driven and driven, does not show the driven appearance but rather sympathizes with the one driven and vows to avenge as an enemy the environment that drives and to prepare a road of life for them, that religion will be the religion that remains to the very last.

To Become One Responsible, One Must Sacrifice

When Unification believers meet one another, since it is a meeting after six thousand years, they must not talk of trifling things or quarrel.

When they meet, they should talk of things for our church, things for the people, and things for the whole of humanity.

Whenever the family members meet, they talk much of “eating well and living well and such, or this being disappointing, or that being good.” This will not do. The good and the bad are not to be discriminated against based on one’s own individual self.

One must hold a heart that can discriminate the good and the bad, centered on the family, greater than oneself, and centered on the clan, the people, the nation, the world, Heaven and earth, greater still.

What did Abel desire?

He desired God’s longing. What did Noah desire? Did he desire his family? Did he desire his relatives? Did he desire his people? Beyond the people, he desired a worldwide figure who would appear in a higher age.

When God blessed Abraham, saying, “I will make your descendants greatly flourish, like the stars of Heaven and like the sand of the seashore,” Abraham at that time had nothing. Yet in his heart, he already felt as if he had occupied the world.

It is the same with Moses. His purpose was not to live a luxurious life as the son of the princess in Pharaoh’s palace. Because he knew that God would come seeking the people of Israel, he resolved, centered on the thought of Israel, boldly to sacrifice all that was his. Because he did so, he became the national leader who could guide a new Israel.

To guide a people, one must be able to overcome the trials that appear before that people and be able to avenge their enemy. Only then can one become the leader who can guide those people.

You who are Unification believers, from now on, when you meet and speak with one another, must not talk about yourselves centered on yourselves, but must exchange talk for the sake of our Will, our church, our people, and this world.

Only when you do so can you save these people, save this world, accomplish God’s Will, and loosen God’s han.

If you do not do so, you cannot escape the history of trial. Not only can you individually not escape it, but your descendants cannot escape it. To enter and walk this road of fate is the road of religion today, and, among religions, you must know that it is the road walked by the Unification Church, which comes forth receiving persecution.

For you to walk such a road, you must loosen and cross over even the most trivial problems. This year, you must loosen it all and cross over.

If there is something to loosen between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, you must loosen it all. Whether that person believes in the Unification Church or not, if there is something to loosen with that person, you must loosen it all.

If it is religion, then even among religions it must be loosened. Why? To widen the stage on which one can fight in place of Heaven’s side. You must know that God has changed His strategy based on this principle.

The Road the Unification Believer Must Walk

However great the stage, it is not that one should settle oneself on that stage centered on oneself.

If one goes forward holding only the thought of leaping beyond that stage to a greater stage, then however great a day of judgment may come, it cannot judge him. And you must clearly remember that the day comes when God greets such a person.

If there is anything that becomes a problem before the Will, it must all be loosened away. And even within our environment, we must not live a life centered on ourselves. Meeting one another and just talking about oneself. Being centered on oneself must be given up.

When did you, of your own accord, attend me as the Teacher of the Unification Church? It was because God taught you all through the spiritual world that you attended me.

One cannot set oneself up.

Do you think one can set oneself up?

The owner must set one up; one cannot ask to be set up by oneself. For one to be set up by the owner, one must receive proof. Therefore, for us to go before Heaven, we must go having received individual proof, family proof, and clan proof.

To receive this proof, it is not by setting up the condition of having fled from the enemy and won victory.

You must know that it is possible only with content by which, from a position the enemy publicly acknowledges, they can submit of their own accord.

From this vantage point, for seven years we have fought with these people at stake, but as we pass beyond 1966, we have still not reached the standard we set as our aim. Our fighting while gazing upon the people is to pursue the worldwide Satan even one step and face him and render a verdict.

We eat for that day, move for that day, and fight for that day; so until that day comes, we must not grow weary.

From the very time of setting out, the Teacher walked this road with the thought that, whether he went to prison or was driven anywhere, so long as he lived and breathed, he would breathe for its sake, and even at the cost of collapsing and dying, he would die for its sake. Therefore, you too must adapt yourselves to an environment in which, in Heaven or on earth, at any time and in any place, you can run for its sake. Go, knowing that such a person is a wise person.

Only then can one avenge all at once the enemy one wished to avenge. Heavenly law is so arranged. And so, to restore vertical history horizontally through indemnity, this Principle came forth, and our Unification Church members are undergoing world-historical trials of this and that kind.

Therefore, you must seek not the good place but the most sorrowful place. The good place has no relation to Heaven. God crosses over through the most sorrowful place. Why? Because wicked evil rules the world, all the good places are ruled by Satan. On the other hand, Satan dislikes the sorrowful place. Therefore, religious people have sought the most sorrowful place.

Herein lies the reason we have, these days, made all the Unification believers enter such a place and suffer hardship. As for what kind of place you must go forth to hereafter, you must go of your accord even as far as Africa.

You must be able to say you are the ground of the world and thus the root of the world. From that vantage point, when one looks at you, you are forlorn beyond compare.

Now, at this time of crossing over the last stretch of the seven-year course, I ask you to resolve anew once more and to reorganize and go forward. Do you understand? (Yes.)

Prayer

Father, we know that Thou art awaiting the day when Thou must, without fail, expel from all Heaven and earth the great enemy who has seized the authority of the air and swallowed up all Heaven and earth.

Father, how could the road Thou walkest be like the footsteps of my individual self? And how could I feel that the Father’s inner circumstances (內情) could be shared with my individual inner circumstances?

Our Father, who hast endured amid tangled twists and sorrow full of han! We cannot look upon that, Father. We earnestly desire and pray that Thou wouldst pardon the foolish days of the past when we ran about not knowing the Father.

On the first Sunday of this month, the Unification Church believers must once again bind themselves together. Centered on the great mission of judging the world and creating a new history, we know the direction we must go and the attitude of life each must individually take; so, Father, we earnestly desire and pray that Thou wouldst let us not forget how greatly Thou hast awaited such a day.

Father, how much hast Thou toiled to drive the throng of unification thus far? We know that upon the course we must walk hereafter, there remain all manner of trials. Each time we grope after the heart with which Heaven has endured amid such twists and turns, we call the Father, shedding tears, knowing that even embracing the Father and struggling, we cannot contain it.

O Father! We earnestly beseech Thee to look with mercy upon us, born as fallen descendants who can only take hold of the hem of the Father’s garment and struggle.

Father, today be a strength and a shield to those who, scattered throughout South Korea, go forth pledged to the victory of a single day.

If there is a throng scattered throughout the world praying toward this place, grant, Father, we earnestly desire and pray that that throng may become a throng going for the sake of the place Heaven desires and become an altar that can fulfill the responsibility of a priest and burn incense before Thee.

Grant that they may become the many children who can commune with Thy circumstances. Grant, Father, we earnestly desire and pray that we not forget how greatly Thou awaitest children who, following the throng Thou hast set up, subjugate the enemy and, as princes and princesses of victory, receive the Blessing and can boast of it.

Though the altar of unification appears exceedingly shabby and as though nothing at all, grant that it may become a place that struggles centered on the Father’s heart. And we earnestly beseech Thee that a bond which, centered on God’s circumstances, cannot be avoided and cannot be severed, may dwell in this place.

Even though we are naked, possessing nothing, if this becomes a place that, though struck down by the rejecting throng upon this earth, tumbles on embracing only Thy ideal and heart and love, we know it will surely be a place where Thou canst come; so grant, Father, we earnestly desire and pray, that not one of Thy children who follow this bond may fall by the wayside.

Scattered throughout South Korea, we are struggling, centered on the epochal mission we have set forth and taken up. Some fight for the Will, some standing at the forefront against the enemy, fighting in a new direction; so grant, Father, we earnestly desire and pray that the battlefield we unfold may become before Thee a law of heroes, and that it may be made a road by which Thou, before the Will Thou hast set up, canst discern and come seeking.

Grant that all we have planned until the last day of this year, 1966, may be made one with the Father’s Will, and grant that our plans and our movements may become ones by which we can offer a sacrificial condition before the single day of hope and console the Father. We earnestly desire and pray.

Grant, Father, we earnestly desire and pray that Thy children gathered here, feeling that they cannot but become one centered on the great Will of executing the enemy upon the earth, may become warriors who run to the place Thou desirest.

At this hour, be Thou personally together with the many peoples who pray and gaze toward this place, and manifest the bond of life within their lives, and be the heart’s support to those who fulfill the mission of pioneers, so that Heaven may come seeking through that bond. We earnestly desire and pray.

We earnestly desire and pray that Thou wouldst personally take charge of and govern and accept all of this day; and since Thou knowest the standard I desire, grant that the children gathered here may not become ones who fall by the wayside until they reach that standard.

Even on the crisis road that runs over steep mountains and rugged peaks, let down a rope and grant that they may break through that road without mishap.

We know well that there is a road one cannot walk trusting in oneself alone, so grant that they may become children who take counsel with Heaven and go looking before and behind.

We must become Thy children who, in secret, take counsel with Thee and hold the deep place Thou hast commanded; so we earnestly desire and pray that Thou wouldst come to such a place and form a bond.

Grant, we earnestly desire and pray that the bond of the forty countries and one hundred twenty holy grounds chosen, centered on these four nations—Korea, Japan, America, and Germany—may commune with the bond of the mission nation of each country so that the bonds upon the earth may be unified and a new direction of human life equipped, and that Thou wouldst drive us to the place Thou desirest.

Let the Father personally take charge of all we desire on this day and make this year holy. Earnestly desiring that we may become ones who can offer up this discerned year and this period, we have prayed all these words, bearing the holy name of the True Parents. Amen.
