The Victorious Unified Front

· Former Headquarters Church, Korea

Now we have welcomed the year 1970. In this year we must set up the motto “The Victorious Unified Front” and run for one year.

I said last year too that in the first three years of the second seven-year course we must go forward centering on the motto “Total Advance.” That is because, to bring victory, one must pass through a process of total advance. Without that, one cannot be victorious.

In this year we must carry on outstanding activity centering not only on Asia but on the world. Because an age has come when we must fulfill such a responsibility, we could not but set up the motto “The Victorious Unified Front.”

To be victorious is not an easy thing. One purpose for which God has carried out the Providence of Restoration until now is likewise to welcome the day of victory. We know that the one purpose for which God, who has continued down through six thousand years of history from Adam’s family through Noah’s family and the age of Moses and the age of John the Baptist and Jesus, has fought until now is likewise to welcome the day of victory.

Then in what land, in what place, will the victory of hope be achieved?

When we consider all the factors by which one can be victorious, those of you gathered here will know well that, needless to say, it cannot but be this land of Korea and this place today. And to be victorious, one must without fail pass through a process of struggle.

The First Stage of the Victorious Unified Front

Then what kind of struggle is that struggle?

It is not a struggle to take possession of the sovereignty of one nation, nor a struggle for some economic purpose of society, nor a struggle for some organization. This struggle is truly a struggle that must properly be fought out, whether in Heaven or upon earth, and even when we look at the whole history of humankind. In that struggle God is involved, and all humankind will be involved. That struggle is a struggle transcending nations and people. That is why we must, without fail, be victorious in that struggle.

Then what will be the standard by which one can be victorious in that struggle?

Of course, the place where one can be victorious is this nation, Korea, and this place, but the position toward victory begins from the individual. It means it begins with us today, that is, from one man and one woman. That is why the history until now has been a history of struggle to establish the standard of victory centering on one man. Jesus, two thousand years ago, was likewise one who came to take responsibility for this struggle and bring it to a conclusion. Jesus sought to unfold this struggle before the world of that time, centering on the people of Israel.

The four thousand years of history until then were to be brought to a conclusion before Jesus: that one man, who represented humankind of the world, represented the people of Israel, represented the long, long history, and represented the God who had led history.

For such a Jesus to be victorious, he had to complete everything that God pursued and hoped for behind history, that is, all the conditions that had to be achieved through the individual. Only then can one gain individual victory. But because Jesus could not accomplish those requisites, he died on the cross.

Even supposing that Jesus had been equipped with the requisites of individual victory, Jesus alone would not have sufficed. For Jesus’ individual victory to be achieved, there had to be a nation centering on Jesus, and there had to be a religion centering on Jesus, and there had to be one family, and there had to be brothers. Only after such conditions are completed can one individual at last be victorious in the struggle.

In this way, only when there are brothers and one family and one religious body and one people and one nation that can become factors of victory, and they become a common body of destiny with the one individual Jesus and connect the relationship of having been victorious, can Jesus at last be victorious individually. And thus, when the individual becomes victorious, one can establish one woman centering on that one victorious man. Then in history, the determining authority of a woman victorious as an individual is achieved. But Jesus, not having completed the foundation of having been victorious as an individual, could not achieve the ideal of a partner, and so went the road of the cross of bitter resentment.

Even supposing Jesus had laid a foundation of individual victory, he could not inherit that prepared nation just as it was by himself. Nor could he inherit a prepared religion just as it was, nor the clan as a clan, nor brothers as brothers, nor the family as a family. To inherit that, he must without fail establish the standard of having become one, as one man with one woman. Without that, one cannot inherit the family, nor the tribe, nor the people, nor the nation. Because one cannot inherit the people and the nation, one cannot inherit the world.

Jesus, who was killed because he could not be equipped with the external environment, was in a position where he had to complete the internal standard and inherit the external standard; yet, being driven by the external standard, he lost even the internal standard. We must know that to overcome this, the two thousand years of history since Jesus have been woven as a history of han.

Today countless nations and countless peoples live throughout the world, and there are many civilized nations with developed cultures, but a historic point of resolution that can stand in place of the whole, setting aside such nations and peoples, is unfolding in Korea.

Although the thirty million people of Korea ought all alike to welcome such a fact with both hands raised, that they do not do so cannot but be a shame of these people. That the religious world, which has taken charge of the spiritual guidance of this people, and among it especially Christianity, which holds a foundation that can be connected with the world, ought to become a religion necessary for cooperating and guarding the environment, and yet has raised the banner of revolt, cannot but be a second shame. To put it another way, just as Judaism rejected Jesus, who came upon the historical ground it had prepared for four thousand years, that Christianity’s public foundation, which it has prepared for two thousand years, on the contrary, blocks Heaven’s road is a grievous fact. Upon such a road of destiny, the Unification Church is struggling.

The Purpose of the Unification Church Until the Sixties

For the Unification Church to be victorious in this struggle, it must lay a foundation of individual victory. To put it another way, for Jesus to be victorious, he ought to have laid a national foundation and then laid a religious foundation and settled the decision of victory in the clan and the family and further in the individual environment and passed through the ideal of a partner and thereby inherited it; but because he could not be equipped with such environmental conditions, we cannot but wage a double struggle of gathering an individual foundation of victory while at the same time gathering the environment, standing in a position like that of an enemy toward the whole. This is the struggle we have carried on until the sixties.

We must lay the religious foundation that Judaism failed to establish. Even from a position where Christianity opposes and these people and nation oppose, the Unification Church today must lay a religious foundation.

Just as Judaism established the ideological foundation of the nation of Judea, the Unification body too must prepare an ideological foundation for Korea and raise it up to a standard at which it can exert influence. We have indemnified the position of Jesus, who sought to lay a firm foundation by connecting the people and the clan and the family with religion.

The Unification Church was not established within the sphere of the established religions but was established upon a new stage centering on a new ideology. That is why the religions of history until now have become our enemies.

Furthermore, the historic clan and family and individual too cannot but be our enemies. Being driven and chased from such a position, our struggle until the sixties was a struggle to raise ourselves, centering on a new religion, to a standard at which we could exert influence before the nation and the people.

For us this was the struggle until the sixties, but for God it is the struggle since the beginning of human history, and for Jesus and the Holy Spirit it is a struggle of two thousand years.

Furthermore, we must know that the countless martyrs and patriots who upheld Christianity and came and went after Jesus have until now held bitter resentment and have been fighting while awaiting the day of the resolution of han.

The Work Members of the Unification Church Must Do in the Seventies

We have welcomed the seventies through such a solemn process, and now we have come to be equipped with a religious body called the Unification Church that can exert influence upon this people. Within this religious body, there is one tribe united as ourselves, and one family, and one set of brothers. This is what differs from the age of Jesus.

Originally, Jesus ought to have gathered religion centering on Judaism and marched toward the nation of Israel. You must know that the very age in which we can do that is the seventies. What our Unification Church must do on this morning of newly welcoming the seventies is to take the first step to carry out the mission of gathering the people, as our Unification Church stands in place of Judaism.

Now the standard of individual victory has already been established, and the standard of family victory too has already been established, and the standard of tribal victory too has been determined. Therefore, now one must determine the foundation of religious victory and advance toward a new stage. This means entering the same sphere of the age as Judaism and the nation of Israel, which could receive God’s Will just as it was. To prepare such a sphere of the age, God has prepared through history until now and has driven the currents of thought of the external world as well to conform to it. And thus the result of His having led us until now is the present situation appearing. Therefore, if we only raise a ripple, a new history will spread in waves beyond Asia to the world. You must know that the very time when it can be so is the seventies.

Therefore, although until now we have lived through an age of bitter resentment, an age of indemnity, an indignant age in which we had to pay a price, from these seventies we must bring all such things to an end and enter a new historical age.

The time has come when what we have fought for this nation and this people until now can be harvested as a fruit of glory.

In the past we repeated a history in which it was difficult to harvest even once though one planted ten times and difficult to harvest even once though one planted a hundred times. Further, God labored and planted for six thousand years but repeated a history of failure in which He could not harvest even once. But now such an age has passed. A plane age has come in which, if one devotes zeal and sincerity and sheds blood and sweat upon the three-thousand-li peninsula for the thirty million people, that is harvested for us just as it is.

That this time we have set the Blessed Families forth in their entirety is God’s love in seeking to let them indemnify what the Blessed Families have failed to take responsibility for before God until now. Therefore, in these seventies, the Blessed Families, as unification families, must raise the flag and carry out an Israel-like responsibility in forming a new Israel. That on this morning we can gather our minds and devote sincerity before God from the position of stepping forth, taking responsibility for such a new nation, is a good opportunity to indemnify and be forgiven for what we have failed to be equipped with and the mission we have failed to fulfill until now as members of the Unification Church and can become an absolute requisite for renewing our shameful aspect in welcoming a new age. You must know that the reason for driving out all the Blessed Families this time lies here as well.

This year’s motto is “The Victorious Unified Front”; from where shall this unified front be spread? As was said above, one must form the unified front from one individual, that is, from one man if a man, or from one woman if a woman, centering on mind and body. Forming the unified front is not in order that I may succeed, and I may do well. It is so that my family of hope may do well and to restore the family. But for that, one must first unify my body and mind.

However great the difficulty, to save one’s beloved family, one must become a complete man, a complete woman, that is, a complete person. Without that, one cannot save the family and cannot establish a standard of victory. Because that is the wish of history woven until now, one must become one complete man, one complete woman, based on that wish. And thus, to become a person who can exert influence upon his family, let us unify mind and body. Because a 38th Parallel lies between mind and body, let us break that down and unify mind and body. From here we must make the fortune of unification stretch out infinitely.

One Must First Spread the Unified Front from One’s Own Mind and Body

The families of our Unification Church must, of course, become one body of body and mind, and that is not my will but God’s will. At the same time, it is the will of the people and the will of the world. That is why you, as one individual conforming to the tremendously strong will of heaven and earth, must embrace that strong will in your breast and carry on a movement of unifying your body and mind to complete it. To put it another way, it means the mind must not go its own way and the body its own way. One must spread the unified front from body and mind. That is, one must spread a unified front in which the body too can follow where the mind goes. First, become such an individual.

And thus, centering on such an individual, one must achieve a family-unified front in which parents and children can become completely one, and centering on such a family, one must achieve a tribal-unified front in which the tribe becomes one. Without that, one cannot bring about national victory.

However well a foundation of individual victory may be laid, if one fails to attain family victory, the individual victory again becomes a position of defeat. That victory does not become permanent. Because it is a small victory that has left a greater struggle behind, without fighting out and winning the family struggle, one cannot keep individual victory. That is, a foundation of the individual that can rest upon a foundation of family victory is not established. Only after being equipped with family victory does a resting place of individual victory come into being. That is why a person who has been equipped with a unified front of individual victory must, with that authority, struggle to obtain family victory.

And thus victorious families must become one body and become a core and spread a unified front connecting the tribe. Among tribes, there are all sorts of surnames such as Kim and Park, and all those tribes must become one. If all tribes are connected as one, one can move the people.

If all tribes become one body centering on the Unification Church, one can unify the people. To put it another way, when the whole tribe holds subjecthood and mind and body become one and achieve a unified front, one can drive the Republic of Korea into the sphere of the unified front. And thus, if a sphere of unification unfolds in the Republic of Korea, one will be able to move Asia and further develop toward the world.

To Achieve a Victorious Unified Front

From this viewpoint, the Unification Church must now spread a unified front centering on the nation and the people. You must clearly know that this is the position in which we are presently placed.

In pursuing unification, in spreading the unified front, if we are to be victorious, we must have equipment. There must be a band that can be victorious. Among these, which is the band most needed? It is a conviction stronger than the conviction of anyone in the world. Without a powerful conviction that one will unify, strength does not come out. For this conviction to exist, there must be an ideology, and for an ideology to exist, there must be a thought.

Then what is thought?

It is a system and a logic that has come forth centering on a worldview or a view of life and the like. It is systematic logic and thinking. To put it another way, it can be expressed as truth. Without truth, an ideal cannot arise, and without truth an ideology cannot be formed. And without an ideology, conviction cannot arise, and without conviction, strength cannot come out.

Then what has history until now come seeking?

It has come seeking one truth that presented a plan by which one could unify, one system of thought, one ideological system. Now the times are passing over into an age of thought and ism. That thought transcends nations and people. Democracy too is not a democracy centered on a particular region but asserts a supranational, supracitizen democracy; and likewise, communism too asserts communism not from a position centered on one particular nation but from a supranational position.

For us hereafter to achieve a victorious unified front, we must establish a view of history, a view of the age, and a view of the future centering on unification thought. To put it another way, we must establish an ideology centering on truth. This ideology is truly what history until now has awaited and what the countless forebears who pursued the Providence of Restoration labored and came seeking and what God, who has moved human history, has labored and fought and sought to accomplish and manifest. It must be such as can become the fruit of all such wishes. That means the manifestation of truth.

The movement centered on such truth is the unification movement that the Unification Church is carrying on today. Then what kind of truth is the truth of which the Unification Church speaks? It is not the truth of which communism or democracy speaks. It speaks of one thought that God and human beings alike require. Such is the view of the Principle of which the Unification Church speaks.

That is why we have until now cried out “unification of thought” whenever we said “unification.” Centering on truth, everyone must be the same. It means that whether a man called A or a man called B, whether a Kim or a Park, the worldview and the view of purpose they gaze upon must be the same.

If the purpose is all the same, the same action comes to unfold, centering on that purpose. But however good a truth one centers upon and however one centers upon the Word, as long as the Word remains merely as Word, the world that the Word aims at is not achieved. But a world completed by believing the Word and following and practicing it does not change. It means that with the Word alone, such a world cannot be manifested.

So one must become one, centering on the Word and practice. One must become one, centering on the Word and spreading the unified front. One must be unified, centering on the Word.

To be unified centering on the Word, action must unfold. Whether A or B, whether men or women, old or young, action must be unified. In this, no one must object. Men too and women too must follow that command. That is why we have enforced unification of action. We have enforced unification of action, unification of heart (심정), and unification of ideology.

Then for what have we fought in this way?

It is to accomplish the purpose. Then what is the accomplishment of purpose that truth pursues, and what is the accomplishment of purpose that we pursue today through action? However good the Word may be, if action does not follow, that person does not become a person of character.

A person who unifies action centering on the Word is a person of character. Then what is the purpose desired by a person equipped with a character unified with the Word? It coincides with God’s purpose of creation. Therefore, the purpose at the time when the Creator created the human being and the purpose we seek must coincide. When we ask what that standard of purpose is, the question of heart (심정) emerges there.

Unification of Ideology, Unification of Heart, Unification of Action

Before a man, too, a woman is needed as a reciprocal being, and before a woman, too, a man is needed as a reciprocal being. In the family too, a reciprocal standard of heart (심정) is without fail needed. A standard of heart centering on society is needed. That is why, if there is one family, one must form one tribe centering on that family, and centering on that tribe, one must pursue a greater goal of heart. That is patriotism.

If there is such a standard of loving the nation, one can love the world. That is why the purpose of such things as philanthropy and the like comes down to the question of heart (심정).

The Unification Church has until now cried out the words “unification of ideology,” “unification of heart (심정)," and “unification of action.” To summarize them simply, unification of ideology is unification centered on the Word, unification of action is unification centered on character, and unification of heart is unification centered on heart.

Then what is the Word, and what is character, and what is heart (심정)? Originally they were one, but in Eden the Word went its own way as Word, character went its own way as character, and heart went its own way as heart. That is the Fall. Because Adam and Eve fell, God’s Word was split apart as Word, and Adam’s character too, which ought to have become one body with God’s Word and been completed substantially, ended without being completed. And thus the heart (심정) too, which ought to have been achieved centering on a completed character, was all scattered in every direction.

That is why history until now is pursuing truth. It has fought to establish God’s true Word, and has fought to establish a true person, and has fought to establish a true world centered on true love.

From such a viewpoint, the Unification Church says that fallen human beings must pass through a process of judgment by the Word, judgment of character, and judgment of heart (심정). That is because fallen human beings are not the substance of the Word and are people without relation to the Word and are not individuals of character unified with the Word but fallen ones who destroyed the Word.

That is why the love achieved there too is torn in every direction. Everything is incomplete, and all passes away. That is why this must be gathered once again. For that, a condition of indemnity is needed there, and that is also why one must pass through a process of judgment by the Word, judgment of character, and judgment of heart (심정).

Then, returning to the fundamental question, how does one pass through judgment by the Word and judgment of character and judgment of heart (심정)?

And thus, how will one bear fruit? This is the most important question. Until now, the Word remained as Word, and people remained as people, and heart remained as heart, all split apart. But the problem was not people. There were many people, but there was no Word. If the Word and people do not become one body, God’s Will cannot be achieved. That is why the human being has come seeking the Word until this day.

When it is said that there is such a Word in the Unification Church, you must become one with that Word. That is the wish of history. To become one with the Word means to become one with God’s love. Therefore, the question is how each of you as an individual becomes a substance of the Word whom God can publicly recognize and coincides with God’s love. This is the most important question for you today.

Jesus is a person of character who inherited God’s internal heart (심정) and one who inherited the Word of truth that can accomplish God’s wish. Furthermore, Jesus is one who was formed by God’s Word and one who could harvest the fruit of God’s Word and a substance who could harvest the fruit of God’s ideal of creation, and at the same time, one who came forth equipped with a complete relationship of love so that a relationship of love could be formed.

Because there was no woman suited to such a Jesus, Christianity has until now woven two thousand years of history centering on the ideal of bridegroom and bride.

Therefore, you must firstly unfold a victorious unified front in your own individual selves. For that, the Word is needed. Character is needed. Heart (심정) is needed. With words alone, it will not do. The question comes down to this. A person who does not feel that the Word is more precious than his self cannot stand as a worker of the unified front. A person who cannot regard Heaven’s character as precious before regarding himself as precious likewise cannot become a worker of the unified front, and a person who does not know how to love the central being of the Cosmos before loving himself likewise cannot become a worker of the unified front.

What the Unification Church has taught until now is to go out with the Word and fight. Why do we have you fight? Because the Fall unfolded not inside the house but on the front line, and so to restore that, one must fight on the front line. To find what was lost, one must go to the place where it was lost. In going, with what does one go? It is the Word. One must go with the Word and fight.

Where were character and heart (심정) split into pieces?

They were split from Adam’s fall. The Fall was not done alone. It was done by two. That is why one cannot go to the heavenly kingdom alone either. That is why in the Unification Church we say there can be no such thing as the completion of individual salvation. We assert the completion of family salvation. This is new content that has not existed in the history of religion until now. We regard the standard of the family as absolute. That is why the manifestation of an absolutized tribe is possible.

If the completion of family salvation is achieved, tribal salvation is possible, and connecting that one can save the people, and when it becomes so, the formation of a nation centered on the people becomes possible.

Multiplication Activity Centered on God

The question is how you unify your own individual selves. Unifying the world is not the problem. Because within your own individual selves, mind, and body are split and fighting every day, you must gather that up with God’s Word. One must gather it up with God’s character. One must gather it up with God’s heart (심정). God must like me loving myself. But you are not so. When I set myself up, God must be able to recognize it. It means that what I say must be such that God cannot but recognize that it is so.

To become such a substance, the most urgent question is how I unify myself within my sphere of living, how I construct a unified front within myself. On entering this year, you must without fail feel this question keenly. To know whether I can become a substance that can be so or not, one goes out and tries. One devotes all the sincerity one has and tries proclaiming the Word. Doing so, one will come to know that God is always together with the Word. Through that, one is connected with God through the Word. It means that apart from the Word, one cannot be connected with God. It means that only by centering on the Word can God and a person be connected. Without the Word, one cannot find connectedness. That is why without a substance to proclaim the Word, nothing at all comes about.

The purpose of God and the human being being connected is to be connected to God’s love. The person who proclaims the Word that can connect a human being with God is a person of earth. But because the Word he conveys is God’s Word, a new person can be fashioned through that Word. That is why you can be equipped with a standard of completion, standing upon a foundation of giving and receiving. Such is the view of the Principle.

If one gives and receives, multiplication unfolds. Because God is together with the Word, the partner comes to stand in a position of being resurrected, and when such a partner and I become one, we come to be equipped with a firm substance, and as such a substance is equipped, one becomes able to grasp God’s heart (심정) through experience. As the depth and breadth of what he is equipped with grows greater, the proportion in which he grasps God’s heart through experience likewise grows greater.

In the Word, God’s heart (심정) throbs. Therefore, however fallen a person may be, when he hears that Word and comes into contact with the Word, God’s heart sprouts within him without his knowing it. God’s heart sprouts, and strength arises by which he can love his enemy, and the foundational power by which he can have dominion over the satanic world is set in motion.

This Word must absolutely not be known by me alone. You yourselves must call forth God’s heart (심정). That is why until now I have had you do pioneer witnessing. Because Satan fell by performing an act of multiplication centering on a second object, only by our performing an act of multiplication centering on God can that be restored.

The Dividing Point of Family Victory

That is why you must form a sphere of the unified front within yourselves and become substances centered on the Word, centered on character, centered on heart (심정).

According to how one excavates a self that can become such a completed substance, the question of whether I advance toward the family centering on unification thought or not is determined. Without becoming that standard, one cannot form a family.

Jesus left the Word but could not leave a reciprocal standard. In that sense, sons and daughters of faith are absolutely necessary. They are my witnesses. They exist for my sake. Likewise, the angel too ought to have existed through Adam.

Because such content is the foundation of the Principle, one must go forward because of such a view. From this viewpoint, all the regional leaders, or district leaders and subdistrict leaders, scattered throughout the nation must set out anew with a new determination. To put it another way, one must connect the Word and character and heart (심정) centering on a victorious unified front within one’s own individual self.

If one cannot do that, salvation too has no relation to you, and that nation and that world too have no relation to you at all. That is the greatest problem. The victorious unified front must be achieved from one’s own self. Only then is a victorious family achieved, centering on that victorious individual.

The reason the Teacher himself walked the second seven-year course is likewise such a reason. Until before the year 1960, I was buffeted individually by harsh wind and frost. But centering on the will not to yield, I collided with all trials with the heart (심정) of living by Heaven’s command and dying by Heaven’s command.

Now that I have a family, the question is how to make this family one. Here one must devote every sincerity. One cannot but devote double the sincerity of the individual course.

Centering on a standard where such sincerity has been devoted, the question is how to make the unification tribe and the Unification Church into an influential subject. How to settle this centering on the family cannot but be a great question. To put it another way, the individual must secure a unified front centering on the Word and secure a family unified front.

For that, the family must coincide with the Will and make a foundation that God can attest to. And thus, together with religion, one must unfold it beyond the nation into a worldwide movement. You must know that this is the course of struggle we must go, and the unified front we must spread.

That is why you must know that my own individual self is the most precious being. It means my own individual self is the most precious. However great God’s love may be, if I cannot be equipped with the reciprocal conditions by which I can receive that love, it is of no use at all; and however good a being God may be, if I do not become a reciprocal person of character before Him, God’s goodness too has no relation whatever to me.

Furthermore, however good the Word may be, if I am not equipped with the reciprocal condition of striving to be assimilated to that Word and re-created, that Word and I have no relation at all.

To summarize, a family comes into being, centering on an individual. That is, a man and a woman who have been equipped with reciprocal conditions individually become one and become a family. Without an individual, a family cannot be formed. It means that if either the man or the woman is lacking, a family cannot be formed. To put it another way, subject and object must be able to give and receive.

Therefore, members of the Unification Church must live for the Will, giving and receiving and cooperating as members, or as families among the Blessed Families. Only when plus and minus perform give-and-take action can God be present there.

Where Is the Victorious Unified Front?

But have the Blessed Families until now led a life centered on God, a life centered on the Will? They have not. All have led lives centered only on themselves. Only when the motive and the purpose of all living are the Will and God is a garden of love achieved there. And thus, with God as subject, we must become objects and be able to give and receive. Then God’s love intervenes there.

If a family that has become so again becomes the subject of the tribe and gives and receives, God comes to move in the center of the tribe. That comes about by centering on God’s love; it does not come about with means or expedients centered on the human being. Material conditions have nothing to do with it. Solely centering on God’s love, tribes must become one with tribes, and relatives must become one with relatives. Because the responsible course that must go together, holding the same purpose, opens only by centering on God, one cannot but dig into that road. Only when one is in such a position is love centered on the tribe at last formed and an environment of love unfolded.

And thus, centering on such a tribe tribe is added to the tribe, and a people unfolds.

And when peoples too give and receive with one another, God comes to descend in their midst, and an environment of love unfolds. And thus a nation comes into being. When again nation and people give and receive, upon that foundation there at last comes to be a world of love centered on God’s love. To put it another way, it becomes a world in which God’s purpose of creation has been achieved.

In this way, whether we look centering on the individual or on the family or tribe or people, the standard in every case is God’s love. When that love of God spreads from the individual all the way to the world, that world in the end becomes the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.

In our Principle we speak of dual characteristics.

Why are dual characteristics necessary?

Without dual characteristics, one cannot achieve the harmony of creation. Because there are dual characteristics one can give and receive with each other, and because one is like bone and one is like flesh, a new form can unfold through giving and receiving. Because God is dual characteristics itself, a reciprocal world cannot but come into being centering on God. In this way, dual characteristics are necessary to achieve the exquisiteness of creation.

Therefore, subject and object must without fail give and receive. The purpose of giving and receiving is to attend to God and to transfer God’s love. When the sovereign and the citizenry in a nation give and receive, that citizenry and sovereign become one. When it becomes so, that nation comes to ride the fortune of the world.

In this way, if only the sovereign and the citizenry become one, centering on one ideology, the fortune of the world descends upon that nation. Accordingly, if only one nation becomes one centering on God’s Will, heavenly fortune descends there. Whether one nation will prosper or perish can be known by looking at the sovereign and the citizenry of that nation.

The question of to what degree that sovereign and citizenry become one body becomes a measure by which one can gauge whether there will be development hereafter.

One can know by seeing whether the citizenry loves the sovereign and the sovereign loves the citizenry. That love must be such that sovereign and citizenry alike are absorbed, beyond themselves, before that holy thing called the nation, which is their common body of purpose. And thus they must form one composite body, and there God’s love must be added, and an environment of God’s love must unfold. This is the view of the Principle.

Individual completion too must be so, and family completion, and tribal completion, and national completion, and worldwide completion too must be so. In the end, it is a unified front centered on God. It is the victorious unified front.

Then what is the victorious unified front?

It is precisely this place. Even in the individual, when mind and body become one, does not God’s love descend there? Therefore, you must become one. You must go seeking the place where the infinite love of God, which you have not felt until now, can be present in your mind. Without God’s love, which the individual and the family must go seeking, one cannot develop, and in a place where there is no God’s love, existence itself will end up shattered.

One Must Love the World More Than One’s Own Nation

That is why Christianity placed the essence of life in love. This must bear fruit in our Unification Church. Within our living environment, there will be a front of victory that we must go to, confronting every social environment. Each of us individuals, to go that road, must break it open with sacrifice and service, however great the trials and hardships. If adventure is required, one must adventure. Whatever sacrifice one pays, one must without fail go that road.

Originally, the human being is not made to remain below the family. He is a tremendous being who can go, taking the family as a foundation, to the tribe, and taking the tribe as a foundation, to the people, and taking the people as a foundation, to the nation, and taking the nation as a foundation, to the world. And thus he can go all the way to the Cosmos and at last enter even the sphere of the parent-child relationship with God. But without being equipped with a relationship of heart (심정) by which one can stand upon a worldwide foundation, one cannot become a son or daughter of God. Can one become a son or daughter of God just because one is a patriot who loves the Republic of Korea? Can one become a son or daughter of God just because one is a citizen who loves America?

An ism or thought that cannot cross the frame of a people or a nation cannot gather the world. An ism centered on the individual human being, that is, on “I,” cannot gather a nation. The citizens of an advanced nation conform to the law within the frame of that nation and protect and foster that boundary line. But an uncivilized people live with the thought that, without concern for the nation, it is enough if only one raises one’s own sons and daughters well. They are far removed from the standard God desires. A people thus removed from the standard God desires is an uncivilized people, and a people whose standard is high is an advanced people.

Then, if hereafter there appear worldwide people whose standard is higher than that of the citizens of the present advanced nations, what kind of people will they be? Those people are people who love the world more than their nation. Apart from such people, one cannot guide the world. For example, neither the communism of the Soviet Union nor the democracy of America has crossed that frame. Such nations at some time retreat. They are all bound to perish. However loudly they talk big, they perish.

Forgive Your Enemy

Hereafter, we who hold unification thought must be able to love the world beyond the Korean people. Then one may worry whether the Korean people will not all perish, but it is not so. When one has found the world, the Korean people go and stand at the very front.

The purpose for which we pioneer and witness too is not for my sake but to plant God’s love worldwide. It is to plant God’s love in this nation and these people, and thus to distribute God’s love to the thirty million people; that we are doing such a tremendous mission. How splendid a thing is this?

Being struck too is not being struck for my sake but being struck for the world. One is struck saying, “Satan, who has ruined history and accuses history, strike if you would strike.” That God’s power of love, being stronger than Satan’s power, is not denounced is because you are within the sphere of the people. That is why He is leading us along. Jesus, in that sense, said that it was all accomplished.

God’s Will and Jesus’ will must not diverge. Jesus was preoccupied with coming forth, gazing only upon the people of Israel and that nation, but God gazed upon the whole world. God’s position of loving the world and Jesus’ position of loving the people of Israel differed from each other. It means the Father’s will and Jesus’ will differed. You must know this. Just try living, hugging only my house and my sons and daughters, and humming to yourself.

If one goes on that way, one perishes. One digs a grave and dies inside that wall of “my sons and daughters.” When one says that in the Republic of Korea one cannot live without loving the people, that person leaves his name within the fence called the Republic of Korea and goes. Such a person is called a patriot.

Jesus left his name within a worldwide fence, and that became the starting point of Christianity. Jesus had to find the humankind of the world even at the cost of losing the people of Israel. He had to forgive his enemy and make him into the sphere of a people he must find in the future. From this viewpoint, it is proper to accept the enemy.

Our Unification Church too had many enemies until the sixties. Now we must forgive all those enemies. I am not a person who will rot away within the fence of this Unification Church. Because I must cross beyond the thirty million people of the Republic of Korea and go to the world, I give all the gifts to the church. After doing all such history of liberation, after giving all to the thirty million people, what shall I do? I must gather the people who opposed. That is a question of time. Since it must be given anyway, why is there any need to form enmity and think it bitter and then go and give it? When one gives, one makes up one’s mind on a large scale and distributes the lot. Would it not be so? It means it is a question of time.

The Unification Church is now doing such work. In doing such work, the Unification Church alone will not suffice. One must gather the established churches and do it. One must gather Christianity and let it exert influence upon general religions as well. And thus one must exert influence upon the thirty million people. And thus one must connect from the Republic of Korea to Japan, to Asia, to the world. We are now doing such work.

Korea and Japan were enemies in the old days. They were historically enemy nations with such a knot that they could not put their brows together, and marriage joining their cells could not even be thought of. But that is no problem. Now let us become subject and object and spread a unified front.

Let us establish God’s love between Korea and Japan. God’s love is stronger than the love of a people. Because it is stronger than any love in history, that love transcends even the people. Let us set out powerfully, centering on the seventies, in which the carrying out of such a tremendous work is possible.

The Victorious Unified Front Is Becoming One Centering on God’s Love

You must spread the victorious unified front from your own individual selves. The victorious unified front means becoming one centered on God’s love. When mind and body become one, centering on the individual, God is present there. When God is present in such a place of giving and receiving, multiplication will without fail unfold there.

If God is not present, multiplication cannot unfold. Such is the principle of the creation of heaven and earth. Because everything was made with God’s love as the motive, there is no law by which multiplication unfolds while leaving God out. If one gives and receives, God is present there, and multiplication unfolds.

Such a unified front must be spread from the individual to the family, the tribe, the people, the nation, and the world. At present our Unification Church has risen to a position where it can go seeking the nation, centering on the people.

Now the Unification Church has come to a sphere of the age in which it can exert influence upon the people and the nation. The world situation has made every preparation and has come to our very door.

Now, on day one, it peels off, but a single layer is bound to fly. Apollo 11, launched from Cape Kennedy, also came to fly when fire was lit at its tail, did it not? We, too, must go toward a time when it can be so. In going, one must not simply go and then come back again.

The question lies in whether the awareness of the Will is stronger than the awareness of my mind and body or weaker than that. Just as a strong magnet, once it sticks, does not come off easily, however one tries to pull it away, your minds too must be together with the Will as strongly as a strong magnet. And thus one must have a thoroughgoing and unshakable attitude of mind that says one longs only for God and lives only for God.

If one has such an attitude of mind, one can remain even though the body is shattered and disappears. What does it mean that Jesus said as he died that it was all accomplished? It means that centering on such a mind, he accomplished spiritually the purpose that was to be achieved in the reciprocal world. But in you that spirit is faint.

For you to accomplish this, you must pass through the whole course of indemnity. That is impossible one-on-one. Therefore, you must set up conditions of indemnity and pass through them all. That is, to spread the victorious unified front, one must pass through a process of indemnity centering on the Word. For that, one must establish the relationship of subject and object from the individual and spread it to the family, the tribe, the clan, the people, and the nation.

The road that goodness goes is sacrificing what is small for the sake of what is great. The family is greater than the individual, is it not? Therefore, the destination the individual must go to is the family. The place that unmarried young men and women must go to is the family that will be formed by marrying. The destination a man and a woman must go to is the family. And what the family must find is sons and daughters. When sons and daughters come into being, brothers and sisters unfold, and from there the tribe unfolds.

The purpose of the individual is the family, and the purpose of the family is sons and daughters. And from those sons and daughters, the tribe is organized. After the tribe is organized, such tribes gather and become a people. And thus a nation is formed. That nation is formed precisely around you. Speaking in today’s democratic manner, it is the same as the president becoming the representative of all the citizens. That is why it is said that in democracy sovereignty lies with the citizenry. When such a nation is formed, the president too becomes the elder brother of our household, and when such an elder brother labors in my place, what is there to envy? When the elder brother becomes a doctor, do you envy him because he is the brother who beat you in the old days? Don't the father and the mother and the brothers and sisters all like it?

Therefore, you must achieve the family that the individual aims at and achieve the children that the family aims at. And thus you must restore the Four Position Foundation of the family. If families restored in this way are joined, what happens? They become a tribe, and become a people, and become a nation. The tribe and the nation and the world are all an expansion of the family.

If one makes one family that can become such a model and establishes it as a worldwide family, from there three billion of humankind can come forth, and three hundred sixty billion of humankind can come forth.

The heavenly kingdom is not achieved somewhere else. It is achieved in the family. Before there is a nation, there must be a tribe, and before there is a tribe, there must be a family. Can there be a nation without a family? Yet Christians say, let us believe in Jesus and go to heaven. Can a widower go to heaven alone? Because Jesus too is a widower, he cannot enter heaven and has been waiting in Paradise for as long as two thousand years. He is waiting for a bride.

All of you, when a wife dies, why does the husband shed tears?

It is because the road by which he could obtain sons and daughters, the third purpose, has been broken. If one cannot accomplish that, one cannot but collapse. One cannot but die. So one cannot but weep. When we look at electricity, there is plus electricity and minus electricity, and if one of these two disappears, the remaining one too can perform no action at all. The road a person goes is likewise the same.

That is why a man and a woman must marry and form a family and bear sons and daughters. And even though one has formed a family, that family cannot live alone.

The relatives of that household, that is, relatives such as uncles and cousins, are needed. When asked whether one has relatives, would there be anyone who says, “I do not need relatives. Is it good to live alone”? Is there anyone who would say it would be good if the citizens of our Republic of Korea were ten persons in all? Have you seen such a person? The Chinese boast that their population is seven hundred fifty million, do they not? That is how it is.

How to Make Body and Mind One Is the Urgent Task

To become sons and daughters of God, no less, one must become a worldwide person. One must become a person who can say, “This heaven and earth is mine.” For that, one must put the environment in order and break through all the walls and fences that block the way ahead so that when one says, “The world is mine,” people can say, “That is right.” But what is the reality? There are many borders between nations, and cultural spheres differ, and languages are all different. It means it is all mottled.

So one must wash all this up clean. And thus one must make even language one and make people live together and work together so that God may like it.

If one plan is set up, all must follow forth, centering on that plan. If a plan were set up to dig up Mount Baekdu, all must strip off their upper garments and take shovels and step forth. Members of our Unification Church, are you like that? “Yes.” If the Teacher says let us do it, do you have the confidence to do it? “Yes.” Really? “Yes.” Even if I say let us dig up the graves of the mothers and fathers of those who oppose our Unification Church, will you do it? “Yes.”

Where is the victorious unified front?

Even so, it is not that I am trying to become president of the Republic of Korea. Do not misunderstand. Fellows who have misunderstood the Teacher’s words go about saying all sorts of things. They say the Unification Church intends to spread a unified front and overturn the present government. What would be the good of overturning a Republic of Korea the size of a palm? If I had such a thought, I would think of overturning Asia; why would I think of the present government, such a trifling thing?

Japan is bound to be caught up in the Victory-Over-Communism activity I am now carrying on, and Communist China too, since this work being done in Communist China is bound to be caught up in it. Just wait and see whether they are caught up or not. Japan is already being caught up. Even though such is the actual state, members of the established churches are saying Let the Unification Church perish and are saying such things as that members of the Unification Church dance naked and such and such about the ringleader, that Moon fellow. Do you think it will collapse just because they do that?

The victorious unified front, all of you, shall we say it once? Where is the starting point of this victorious unified front? “The individual.” How does one make the individual’s body and mind into one? This is the question. Aren't those who have stepped forth saying they will follow the Will even at the cost of their bodies dying truly people of courage who have stepped forth saying they will spread the unified front?

Men and women holding such a Will meet and receive the Blessing. Yet when I look at you quietly, you are two people, one of mind and one of body. These two people are always fighting. When a man and a woman thus divided into body and mind join, they become four people.

If these four fight, would they be happy?

There is no way they could be happy. If it is ten people, how many people is it? It becomes twenty people. What would it be like if twenty people fought? The reason the families of the world set up separate households apart from one another whenever possible lies here too.

If relatives live together, the women say, “My dear husband, if your younger brother does not set up his household, I cannot go on living.” So they separate households. It means the only road to find refuge from the fighting is the road of separating households.

These days in a nation like America, there are even men who say they do not need a woman. A man lives alone in a hotel. He sits in a hotel room puffing away at cigarettes or wanders leisurely about the night streets and comes in and spends the night, and so on. They say there is no reason for four people to gather and live when even two people living is complicated. It means that when two people sit together, it is complicated. Is that not so?

Since even a mind and body, even one person, cannot become one but fight and make a fuss, four people would be the death of them. So they say they will not marry because it becomes a burden.

What do you think? Is it good to be in one room with a person whose mind suits yours? Or is it good to be in one room with a person whose mind does not suit yours? “A person whose mind suits.” That is right. It is good to be in one room with people whose minds suit. But what about yourselves?

Do your mind and body suit each other well?

They do not, do they? When will you make that into one? This is the question. History has been worn down by this struggle, and many sages and wise men died fighting that struggle. They died fighting such struggles as what life is and whether there is a God.

The Standard of the Unified Front

Yet when one comes to know unification thought, and the Will of the Unification Church, odd things happen. Because the Teacher said to go out witnessing, everyone went out, but those who could not go slinked about lest they catch my eye and quietly avoid the Teacher. Though no one says anything, they cannot bear it. It means it is better to go out witnessing. That is strange, is it not? You, too, will be like that.

Furthermore, when schoolgirls who attend school come to the Unification Church and once hear the Word, from then on they must come trotting to the church with their satchels after school lets out and then go, or else even when they go home and eat their rice, it does not digest well. Have you too felt such a thing? A person who has not felt such a thing is a fake.

In this way, the relationship of the Unification Church is thick in concentration. It is because your mind and body like the church and wish to be at the church. That is because the church is a place where the Word and character and heart (심정) that God aims at are present. You must attend to God not in your hand and not in your thought but in your mind. When it becomes so, one comes to be unable to do anything contrary to the mind. The individual’s unified front must be established upon that standard. But are your minds like that? If they are not so, you are fakes. Fakes.

Originally, your mind and body ought to become one. But that standard came to be out of joint. From the beginning, the standard of heart (심정) dislikes going down. The higher it climbs, the more it seeks to climb. It is because one knows that the more one climbs, the nearer one goes to God. For instance, it is the same as when you gather money; you keep wanting to gather more.

Furthermore, do not all people wish to become president of the world? It is the same. Because God’s love too is the highest, one keeps seeking to climb to the highest.

You must make this standard of the unified front certain. When that is not done, you are fakes. Let the Will occupy the mind and occupy the body and go. This is the Four Position Foundation centered on the purpose. This is the philosophy of the Four Position Foundation. There must without fail be a subject who can govern mind and body. And thus one must give and receive with that subject and set out again with the purpose before one. Yet this has not been achieved until now. That is, one is away from one’s proper position. This is the Fall.

You must achieve such a standard of the Four Position Foundation from the family, centering on the husband. When the husband is worthless, the wife must achieve it even by becoming the center. When it becomes so, even if the husband feels bad, it cannot be helped. Whoever it may be must become the subject and, centering on him, gather and be bound together as one. And thus, setting out from that family that has become one, one must achieve a tribe that has become one, a people that has become one, a nation that has become one, and a world that has become one. Thereafter, one must make it so that one can be connected all the way to God’s heart (심정), centering on God’s love.

One must make it so that one can be connected all the way to the bundle of God’s mind. And thus, when the external standard is connected all the way to God’s heart, their unification unfolds.

Just as God desires one unified world, human beings too desire one unified world, do they not? It is the same. In that unified world, God becomes plus, and that world, which has become one with God’s heart (심정), becomes minus. You must achieve such a unified front.

If the Unification Church only firmly establishes such a standard, one need not witness. There is no need to witness much. That is because, if only the individual family, the tribal family, and the national family are resolved (in the family too there is a core), and if that standard is connected to the world, the world is automatically restored. Do you think all thirty million people must be restored?

The Road Goodness Goes

Gazing upon such a victorious unified front, go from the individual through the family, the tribe, and the people. From this viewpoint, I have spoken to you the words tribal messiah.

In becoming a tribal messiah, can one become one without becoming one with God’s love?

Without becoming one with God’s love, one cannot become a messiah. Only a man and woman who stand upon such a standard can receive the Blessing and form a family. Just as sons and daughters of faith come into being through the working in which the Holy Spirit and Jesus become one, you too can establish a standard of becoming one substantially and multiply sons and daughters from a plane position. Only when that can be so can one speak the words, tribal messiah. Do you understand?

Accordingly, one must establish the family even at the cost of sacrificing the individual. Even if the parents are sacrificed, one must save the sons and daughters. Parents seek to save their sons and daughters even at the cost of going the road of death. Are there not many cases where parents sacrifice for their children rather than many cases where children sacrifice for their parents? This is heavenly law. Parents must save their children.

If one does not save one’s children, the road the parents must go is blocked. And the children of that family need relatives. One must sacrifice for the relatives. Such a family is bound to be revered and esteemed in the village as a good family.

If one is revered and esteemed by the people around one, what one gave them returns again as one’s own. Furthermore, they become a band on my side, and I come to be able to have dominion. Is that so, or is it not? Do you understand? It means one makes them into one’s own side and harvests the fruit, centering on oneself. That is why I tell you to sacrifice. That is why a family that sacrifices for relatives, or for the tribe, comes to be able to harvest that whole tribe as its fruit. That is why all those tribes come to that family and ask for help.

Accordingly, the family must sacrifice for the tribe. And the tribe must sacrifice for the people. That the tribe is sacrificed for the people and the nation is goodness. And further, that one nation is sacrificed for the world is goodness. That is the normal road of goodness.

In this way, goodness is found after sacrificing. That is, harvesting after sacrificing is goodness. To put it another way, God’s strategy is to be struck and take back. Satan’s strategy is to strike and take away. When we look at the rise and fall of the various nations of the world historically, we can know such a thing. A ruler who beat others to death and made blood flow and seized power in the end perishes. That countless nations perished by doing so can be known by looking at history.

Attend God Within Your Sphere of Living on a Worldwide Standard

But because religious people sacrificed themselves and took back, religion did not perish even after passing through several thousand years of history, but on the contrary has broadened its domain worldwide. Historical fact cannot be helped. A good person seeks to sacrifice for others, and an evil person centers on himself and seeks to use others. Such a villain perishes.

Then what would the Unification Church do?

Is it to make the people of the Republic of Korea into servants centering on the Unification Church? No. It is that we would play the part of a servant for the Republic of Korea, holding the heart (심정) of a parent. Just as parents treat their children from a parental position, it is to serve the people and teach them and awaken them and establish that heart just as it is as a tradition. And thus, when they come to realize it, they will come to know that we are in a parental position, so they will follow even if we tell them not to follow and will listen to our words even if we tell them not to listen. Do you understand?

Now, in the year 1970, we must make such principled content explicit and achieve a victorious unified front. And thus we must be able to unify this and bring it to the surface. You yourselves must bear such a responsibility. We must drive you out so that you yourselves can live such a life in your environments. Do you understand? “Yes.” And while doing so, one must do the work of connecting with all the currents of thought of the world.

That is why from this year we will hold many Asian, or worldwide, assemblies. One way or another, the Unification Church will hereafter present many worldwide questions. At that time, for you to keep pace with that, you yourselves must wholly attend to God within your sphere of living on a worldwide standard. That is, you must make co-workers before and behind on the road you go and put your main strength into making your stage of living heavenly. Then the road you go will absolutely not be lonely. You will vividly feel within your living that God is without fail together with you.

Furthermore, only then can you leave upon the earth a foundation on which your descendants can bear witness that God was together with you. It is with such questions in view that I have set up “The Victorious Unified Front” as this year’s motto, so I hope you will bear this in mind.
