A Person of Faith Who Grasps Through Experience

Daegu Church, Korea

To live as a human being, one must first go the right path. To go the right path as a human being, one must become an example in one’s family and society, and become an example before those people. And, going further, one must become an example before the world. This is the right way (正道) a human being must go.

To Become an Example and a Center

We Unification Church members must be an example not only before this world but even into the past, present, and future—that is, before the countless spirit individuals who came and went in the past, before the humankind living in the present age, and before the countless descendants to come. This is the path we must go.

Seen concerning the problem of the value a human being must hold, today general society does not cross beyond a worldwide limit, and even religion, within the limits of the doctrine its denomination asserts, has been pursuing character. But our Unification Church, going far beyond this viewpoint, must be able to tell even all the saints and sages and ancestors of the past to take us as their example, must be able to make all humankind of the whole world say they must follow our example, and must be able to make the descendants to come say they must serve us as ancestors.

If you quietly listen to the prayers of Unification Church members, what kind of prayer do they pray? They pray, “We of today are the fruit of six thousand years of history.”

You have heard such prayers, have you not?

The ones laughing here are the ones who prayed such a prayer. Then do you think you are beings who become the fruit of six thousand years of history? A person who has not once seen a single one of the heroes and martyrs whose names remain in history flops down and says, “O God, we are the fruit of six thousand years of history.” Granting that this much is all right, on top of it they add and pray, “Though three billion humankind live on this earth, we are the center of the world.” Do you pray that way, or not? (We do.)

Then next they often pray, “We must become ancestors to the descendants of ten thousand generations and prepare the shoot of a new age.” Have you heard such a prayer, or not? (We have.) Where did you hear it? You heard it just now. If you prayed that way, it was ill done. If you prayed that way, you prayed without knowing well.

To pick the fruit of six thousand years, must one pick it in spring, or in summer? When is it? (In autumn.) That is so. Then have you seen the autumn? (We have not.) Not having seen it, how can you say you are the fruit of six thousand years?

There are many peoples in the world; how can you become the worldwide center? If you say, “Let us do it this way and that,” does the world move, saying, “Yes!”? Only if it moves that way are you the center. At a track meet, when told to stand, they stand, and when told to run, they run, do they not? You must become such a person. When one commands the whole at the contest ground, the whole moves, does it not? Such a person becomes the center.

If you say, “World, do as I say,” does it move? (It does not move.) Far from moving, it will pour out curses and try to slap your cheek and, not content with that, will do all manner of things. Are you still the center?

Furthermore, next, we say let us become a true origin so that the descendants take us as their example, do we not? Are you splendid enough to do that? Will your descendants take you as their example? Will they, or not? After the descendants are born and come to know, they should say, “Oh, our ancestor is the best. Though homely, he is a person we must take as our example.” Do you hold such content? At best you flutter about and live within the bounds of Daegu, if Daegu, or South Gyeongsang Province, if South Gyeongsang, and yet say you are doing cosmic works? As I said, are you or not? In value, you are not even worth this much.

When a person has said a thing once, let him do it once to the end. Will you do it only in Daegu? If you have done it in Daegu, then next, leaving Daegu, you must do it in North Gyeongsang Province, and, leaving North Gyeongsang, do it in the two Gyeongsang provinces. This three-thousand-ri peninsula is minimal.

Since the three-thousand-ri peninsula is asleep, you must tell it to follow you. You must make it so that the thirty million people, whether they die or live, can follow. You must drag it on until it is settled that one cannot but go this path. Yet many throngs stop midway and turn back.

Who Is the Fruit of Six Thousand Years of History?

If you prayed to become the fruit of six thousand years, you must receive acknowledgment as the fruit of six thousand years, and if you prayed to become the center of several centuries, you must receive acknowledgment as that center.

Only then can you be an example as a good ancestor before your descendants. But if you become an ancestor who is not so, those descendants will say, Our ancestor did wrong, so it must be torn up and fixed. If that happens, what will become of it? The state of the ancestor is a sorry sight.

Since you said you have not seen the autumn, what fruit is the fruit? So when you speak, who, hearing your words, will try to follow? While the established church has opposed and made a fuss for decades until now.

Moreover, is there anyone who says she will marry a Unification Church bachelor?

It is only because she is a Unification Church woman that she unavoidably marries you. Because she cannot help but go, she unavoidably goes. If it were not so, put up a signboard outside from the start, and if there is a woman who says, “There is a splendid man here, let us do it,” tell her to come to Daegu. Put up a signboard and wait six thousand years. See whether even one person appears. It is only because there are Unification Church women that you can get married; otherwise, what marriage would you get?

The clothes you wear are all jacket-like getups; who would come?

Even your faces, when I look, are jet-black, and even when you laugh, you laugh crookedly. Because one puts on tinted glasses and looks, the other seems a bit lacking. So when one rushes at them head-on, they are set to bow their heads. When I look at you, all of you are more lacking than others.

So even if you advertise, since your age is near thirty, who would want to come?

This time it is fortunate that there is a bride who can be matched, but before that bride, there is nothing you can set out and say is thus. You are such a lot. And when I quietly look at your faces, they are bloodless, and, whether from starving and being chased about, wrinkles have formed.

In other words, a person’s face appears differently according to the environment one lives in. The features of a person who lives in a mountainous region are rugged. Topographically, or the atmosphere of that region, makes a person so.

So a Unification Church member too must be handsome. One must be plump and handsome to the degree that someone wants to touch him. Anyone who looks must be able to feel that. But when I look at you, you appear all black, to the degree that the one looking is discomfited. That is how you are. A moment ago, someone said that, since the Teacher has come to Daegu, he hopes I will make Daegu prosper. Is it because Daegu seems about to perish?

You must leave a record. You must set a record and go abroad. There are good records and bad records, but you must set a good record. From your present position, do not be excessively pleased.

You say you are the fruit of six thousand years and this and that, but do you have the confidence to become so?

Can you? Looking at your figures this way and that, you are not made to be able to become so. Then who must become that central being that is to be the fruit? (It is the Teacher.) It is not the Teacher. It is God. Then who is the person who can become the historical fruit? (I must become it.) Do you become the fruit even before being born? You are in a position the same as one not even conceived in the mother’s womb. And you say you yourself become it? Not even married, can you say you yourself will become it? If you became it, a grave matter would arise.

So who must become it?

The historical fruit must be God. It means He must become the seed-ancestor. When the One who was to bear the fruit could not bear it, what stem could arise, what branch could form, what flower, what fruit? So there must be a perfect fruit. And who is that fruit? It is God.

To Become a Perfect Fruit

In the course of six thousand years of history, God could not become the fruit. That fruit had to be borne in a human being, but it was not. Then on what kind of branch is fruit borne? Is fruit borne on a thick branch or on a small branch? It is borne on a small branch. Even among small branches, is it borne on a side branch? It is not borne on a side-branch.

If it were borne there, when the wind blows, it all falls. If a branch has grown seventy years until now, only a branch that has grown healthily, receiving nutrients normally without suffering blight and pests for seventy years, can bear the perfect fruit. Only then is it truly borne. It means the perfect fruit can be borne.

If there is even a little lacking there, by the corresponding proportion, the fruit is lacking. So, centering on God, He did plant, but this planted human being became a branch in history, stretching east and stretching west, and made a ground like today’s. Yet He has not gathered even one fruit. That is, He could not find the fruit. Before fruit is borne, what comes out? A flower comes out. Before the flower comes out, what comes out? A leaf comes out. Of course, before the leaf comes out, the branch comes out, and so on.

Looking at humankind of the world today, there are many leaf-like people. But even leaves, if they were the leaves of a good tree, it would be one thing, but there are many leaves one cannot even recognize. There are all kinds of leaves. There are many such leaves entangled in countless complicated circumstances. You have Anjirangi (안지랭이) Mountain here, do you not? Look at that mountain. It looks green, does it not? The mountain looking green is not because there are only pine trees making it green. When spring comes, every tree, whether a tree with a name or a nameless grass, all give off their own green color.

However bad its name, it gives off its own green color. Is that not so? But being green does not mean all are the same. There, countless kinds are growing, each equipped with its form.

Looking at the human world too, it is likewise. There are too many types of people living. Among them are many people belonging to a field that is coarse and unpleasant, like a thorny thistle, merely to look at. Since the one in charge of such a field seeks to become the great king, can that be? It cannot. As an individual, it cannot be.

On a mountain there are trees, and among those trees, how many are the biggest? There is only one. And how many are the best grass? There is only one clump.

Then if the owner loves the grass and the trees and loves only one of each, which would he love? Setting all else aside, he would love the best and biggest tree and grass.

The Person God Likes

Then when God looks at the human world, what is it He can like most?

Is it doing business? Does God like that? Does He like doing business? (He does not.) Then for what did you gather here? You are merchants who sell guns—that is, a lot God does not like—so why have you gathered thus? (We gathered to be liked.)

Do you like it even if you cannot make money?

They say that to do business one must not do it honestly; would God like it when one does not do it honestly? If He liked that, He would not be God. So God does not like a person who does business.

Then who asserts that?

God does not assert it. Satan asserts it. One must defend against it. If one does business in that world, Satan asserts, one comes to follow Satan. One must not do that. It is enjoined not to follow. Because Satan did such work and ruined God’s work, if I do business and rather make Satan perish, God is changed. Do you understand what I mean? Business itself is a good thing.

That does not mean God loves the person who does business most. Then, looking at this world, by what do the well-off live well? Do they live well by doing business? Do they live well by cultivating the Way? God does not like a person who lives well by doing business. As you know, Japan too lived by doing business, so generally speaking, God does not like Japan. Then America? God does not like America either. Why? Because the advanced nations seized weak nations as colonies and used them as markets to consume their products, God does not like them. Then if God does not like a person who does business, does He, conversely, like a person who does not do business? Should that not be so? God does not like a person who does not do business either. Then whom does He like?

Let us first examine it one by one. God, generally speaking, loves a person who does not do business more than a person who does business. People who do business are in Cain’s position, and people who do not do business are in Abel’s position. It is regrettable, but it cannot be helped. But if God liked only people who do not do business, then worldwide today He would have to dislike the advanced nations and like the backward nations.

If that were so, He would have to love Africa most. But it is not so. God loves, and one must know whom He loves. Whom does He love? He loves the person who reveres God. It is simple.

The Power of Affectionate Love Must Be Great

Even if you raise your voice at your wife at home over some matter, your wife answers, “Yes.” Who else would do so? It is because she is your wife that she says, “Yes.”

If you scolded a woman of the neighboring village, she would surely get angry. Therefore, the more one has concern and likes that person, the more deeply one interferes and scolds, without one’s conscience being pricked. Is that not so? (Yes.)

The closer a person is, the more one does not give a reward but rather gives a scolding, “You rascal, why did you do that?” If it were a bachelor of the neighboring village, one would pretend not to see even a fault, but if it were one’s own child, one would say, “Roll up your trouser leg,” and while striking, say, “You rascal, was that well done or ill done?” That is because one is thinking of him more than the striking. But if one strikes more than one thinks of him, that is a sin. If one strikes more than one thinks of him, one becomes an enemy. One becomes a great enemy among enemies.

If a husband divorces and then strikes his wife, a grave matter arises, does it not? Have you seen such a person?

Even if one says one loves, if one strikes from a place where one does not love more than the cudgel one holds, everything shatters. But if one strikes from a place where one loves more than that, it is all right. That is, if one loves ten and strikes five with the whip, since five of love remain, she thinks of it with gratitude.

God, in loving human beings, does not look at whether one is handsome or homely. In God’s sight, handsome or homely, all are precious beings. But when these are unspeakably ignorant and, however often told, cannot do well, does God’s heart burn, or not? It burns. Then unavoidably He will strike with a whip. Does He strike for one to perish?

If He struck for one to perish, He would not be God. From there the beacon of revolution arises. Even in striking, one must strike below that standard of loving. Have you seen a parent who feels good after striking? (We have not.) God is greater and has more love than a human parent; would He say He feels good after striking humankind? He cannot.

If a child suffers trial and pain in a hard place, God, who sees it, feels more pain than that child. Therefore, the child must know such a heart and be grateful even after being struck. You must know that this is the affectionate tie by which Heaven has sought the human world until now.

The Religion God Likes Most

Then where in this world do people revere and like God and gather?

It is the church—that is, religion. It is not some university. It is religion. But among religions, there is also a religion centered on material blessing. Do you understand what I mean? A person who needs money says that if one believes in religion, one profits. There are also people who believe in God to receive material blessings.

Next, there are also people who believe in obtaining sons and daughters because they have none, and there will also be people who believe in seeking God’s help to obtain a world-class beauty as a wife. There is even a rascal who goes before God and asks for a beauty. There are all kinds of people. In other words, there are all kinds of religions. Then what is it that God likes most?

What is it God likes most and takes the most interest in?

One must think about this. Do you believe in God to obtain money? Do you believe in marrying well? You must know well why you believe. In the end, a religion that makes demands from a position different from God is far from God.

The person God seeks is a person who can stand in the same position centered on God. The religion God likes is a religion formed by the joining of individuals who take an interest and devote sincerity centering on the problem God faces—a religion that moves holding such an -ism or ideology. Which religion is such a religion? It is a religion that ties the relationship between God and human beings, centering on love.

From that viewpoint, all the religions of the world each say they love God most, but the issue is with what content they love. If God asked about that content, how would you answer? Rather than saying, “God is the king of our nation,” say, “God is my Father. God is my husband”—there is nothing better than this.

If one becomes a father and sons and daughters centering on God, one becomes a family. There is nothing better than this. Even in God’s sight, there is nothing better. Do you understand?

Among religions too, a religion that has dug out such content becomes a religion that can, crossing beyond the limit lines of all nations and humankind, receive God’s interest, and a religion where God’s heart can abide. This religion cannot but be the religion of the final purpose that today’s humankind must go toward. Do you understand? So how did the Unification Church define God? It calls God “Father.” It has revealed it this way.

Who is God? (He is Father.) The Unification Church revealed God as Father. But among fathers, there are all kinds of fathers. Stepfather, elder uncle, younger uncle, foster father, and so on. In the world, there are all kinds of shabby fathers. But God is not such a father. God is the True Father among fathers. Does it feel good, or bad? (It feels good.) What, Father? (The True Father.)

The True Father and True Son, Who Are Like the True Fruit

Then are there two True Fathers, or one?

This is absolute. It transcends this world. God is the True Father. One must become a person who can say, “God is the True Father,” even if anyone in the world threatens. If there is a person God wishes to seek, He will seek such a person.

If not, think about what kind of person He would seek. If there is a God who is seeking a person apart from the person I spoke of, that God is a lying God. Such a God is a God who can never eternally form a relationship with us. Would a child and parent wish to live apart, or wish to live forever together, brow to brow? They would wish to live together forever.

Even in the parent-child relationship of the fallen world, one wishes to live together forever; how much more would the True Father and True sons and daughters wish to live together? Would they wish to, or not? (They would wish to.)

Even if another person hereafter tries to define what has been historically defined as “True Father,” one cannot define beyond this. There is no name to develop and call more clearly than True Father. So is it the last or the middle? (It is the last.) It came out last. It means the last Father. It is the very last. Therefore, that Father is the last fruit.

What is the Father?

The Father is the fruit. Since the Father has come out, next the son must automatically come out. Then is that son different from the Father? (He is the same.) Since he is a son like the Father, he is the “True son, True sons and daughters.” This True Son is the son whom God sought at the highest standard from the position of the True Father.

Then how many were there who came bearing the name of True sons and daughters? Among the countless people who came and went in the long course of history, how many True sons and daughters were there?

If God is the True Father, for that True Father to meet the True Son is to accomplish His wish. There is nothing better than that. What use is it to possess the world? And what use is it to graduate from university? Just as it is said that whatever one’s form, it is enough if one only loves oneself; it is enough if there is a True son. There is nothing better than that.

Why the Unification Church Is Great

All of you, do you need a father and mother, or not?

(We need them.) Until one becomes independent, one needs them, but after marrying, does it do to say, “Father, mother, die quickly”? Does that fit the principle of the heavenly law? That is unfilial. What God seeks is to seek True sons and daughters as the True Father. There is only this.

Among the countless religions today, for what reason is the Unification Church great? The Unification Church is great precisely because it discovered this. No organization in this world, no religionist, no person, discovered this standard.

Through whom did this come about?

It came about through the Teacher. One who discovered this cannot but be a worldwide being. This is not to advertise the Teacher. Even without advertising, it is set to be known automatically.

The Teacher did not merely teach the name True Father and True Son. He also taught the concrete content of what the True Father is like and what the True Son must be like. If it only becomes so, since all Heaven and earth are God’s, there is the privilege of inheriting. If that happens, the son can inherit that Father’s love without a word. In other words, that son can automatically inherit the Father’s authority.

There are many people who think, “I am the best in the world.” Even though circumstances are now bad and one unavoidably goes about the village gates begging, since one’s lot is unknowable, there are many who live thinking, “I am the best.” Is that so, or not? (It is so.) Where does its origin come from? It is because one has split off from the root and become separated. Though it has now become like this, since originally the seed was the same, following the tie of the seed, it automatically becomes so.

If you plant a persimmon tree in America across the Pacific, it bears persimmon fruit, does it not? (Yes.) Even if told not to bear, it bears. It is the same as that. Though you now look like a gourd or a pumpkin set on a tiled roof, in your own way you must be able to say, “I am the best in the world.” Do you have such nerve or not? (We do.) One who does not die—dies. Such a person is set to perish. Because there is that, the logic is established that one can call God Father and also friend. There, there is an equal privilege centered on love.

Does a parent need a crippled child, or not? (He needs it.) One wishes there were no such child, but after it is born, it is absolutely needed. Even if one is in a mountain valley, a parent worries about the crippled child more than the other children. Wherever a parent is, he worries most about that crippled child. For a fine, handsome child, less worry goes. God too does not worry about a person like the Teacher. That does not mean the Teacher is handsome. But he is handsomer than you. Is that not so? Since you call me Teacher, is the Teacher not handsomer than the disciples?

God too loves a homely person more than a person of good frame like us. But when it is said one must love because one was born tied to God, God too is caught fast and cannot budge. It is set up this way. Are you handsome or homely? However shabby one looks, when one holds the tie of a son or daughter who has intactly received the blood that can pull God’s power of love, handsome or homely is not the issue. Do you understand? (Yes.)

Even if one lives having no clothes, covering oneself with a straw mat, collecting scrap, and rummaging through trash bins, when one forms such a tie, there is a day one commands all under Heaven. Do you understand? (Yes.)

One Who Can Share Life and Death, Weal and Woe

In that sense, where does the motive lie by which today’s Unification Church can be called the historical fruit?

It is that we came to know the True Father. And that we are True sons and daughters. If one is the Father’s son or daughter, one must go and live where the Father lives and go and die where the Father dies. Is that not so? (Yes.) You must have the confidence to be able to do that, and that heart must not change. Even if Heaven and earth change, that heart alone must not change. If it becomes so, you remain as the fruit of six thousand years. Do you understand? (Yes.)

Whoever, from such a place where one can do so, says he will live together and die together, is God’s son or daughter, and that son or daughter is, without fail, the fruit of six thousand years. Among you, whoever says he is surely such a person, raise your hand. Is it really so? (Yes.) Even if it is not so, one must change quickly. When a person is about to suffer disgrace anywhere, one must dodge that place well. One who reads the situation and dodges is a wise person.

Rather than suffering disgrace there, one who, even copying others, does not suffer disgrace is a quick-witted person. God too will like one who does that. Hearing the Teacher’s words and quietly considering, if it seems plausible, one needs the wisdom to be able to do so even in this hour.

Instead, you must hold conviction.

What kind of conviction?

The conviction that God is, without fail, my Father. Therefore I live where that Father lives, and I like what that Father likes, and I must grieve if that Father grieves, and if that Father is in a place of dying, I too must be in such a place. Here one must follow like a shadow, not yielding one step.

If one prays holding such conviction, would one become only the fruit of six thousand years? Before becoming the fruit, you must become a new stem and a new branch and the flower of a new branch. Thereafter, one must say, “Now, having become the fruit, I cannot be different from God.” Only then does God say it is so. It is set up this way.

Then when the Father is about to die, can you die together? (Yes.) Is it really so? (It is so.) Is it really so? (Yes!) Then I need not say this today. I do not believe it. The aftertaste has not yet risen. I must be able to know your minds. Is it really so? (Yes!) If so, I must catch all of you and put you through a bit of drilling.

If there were a torture rack here now, I would tie you upside down. Then I would torture you. I would rip open your inner heart. If, even then, I asked whether you would die together with the Father, what would you do? (Even so, it is fine.)

Consider it seriously and factually. Even if a knife is put to your neck and you are threatened, will you die? (Yes!) Is it really so? If it is really so, a grave matter would arise. I would have to shoulder my bundle and leave. Is it really so? (Yes!) Then God too cannot but accept it. When you resolve to die together, would the all-knowing, almighty God say, “You alone die. I alone will live”? Would He, or not? (He would not.)

All of you, do you know why I say such things? Because you cannot concentrate on me. Only when talk of dying comes out does a dozing person suddenly wake from sleep.

From Busan, from South Gyeongsang Province, you did all sorts of things to prepare money to come here from days ago, did you not? So does it like to come here and doze and go? If you doze, I feel bad too. Well then, you promise not to doze, right? (Yes.) If someone is dozing, twist his nose and pull his ear. If even that does not work, I will throw an object here.

Only when talk of dying comes out and bullets fly back and forth, does one’s spirit snap awake. If you doze, you cannot achieve unification. Only when one becomes completely one is there unification, is there not? Two must become one.

When Armstrong got off on the moon, did that person and the people watching by television not become one? Everyone must have been on tenterhooks. Khrushchev, the general secretary of the Soviet Communist Party, must have been so too. Kosygin must have been the same.

Now, having heard such words, you must have gained confidence. In what did you gain confidence?

You must have gained confidence in praying. So when you pray, you must, with confidence, say, “O God, the fruit of six thousand years has appeared here.” Do you have confidence, or not? (We have.) From now on, pray such a prayer. Do you have the confidence to say, “Among all the people of the world, there is only me. The true ancestor of ten thousand ages begins with me, so let the descendants take me as their example”?

A Standard One Can Boast of for All Ages

Where lies the principle by which one can achieve unification?

History until now advanced toward the future, setting up a purpose, but by this the world of unification does not come. In such a course, revolution continues, and a wretched history of struggle swirls.

Then how must history hereafter be?

History has passed, but history is set to influence the present. Therefore, one must make the present become the ground of hope for the future. From now on, in our age, we must make an ideological foundation by which the world can be made one. Then how must one do it?

If a thousand years of history have passed, one must make it so that the thousand years of history—that is, the past—bows its head to us, the present bows its head, and the future bows its head. Unless one makes an origin where the three points join in one place, there is no unification.

So today, in our Unification Church, we say that we have become the beings of the age and the origin that are to become the historical fruit. Only then can the three points join here and everything be resolved through the ceremony of releasing han. This place becomes the motive and beginning of everything. It is at once the Alpha and the Omega. The meaning of Alpha and Omega spoken of here is not that the Omega surpasses and treads over the Alpha, but that the Omega coincides with the standard of the Alpha. It means becoming such a world.

Put another way, to reach that standard, there is no way but to become the True Father and True Sons and Daughters. Only when you coincide here do you set up a single standard by which you can boast in the course of history, boast before three billion humankind, and boast before the descendants of the future. To that end, you must join. On the day you set up such a standard and receive acknowledgment from God, you become “above Heaven and below Heaven; I alone am honored” (天上天下唯我獨尊). Shakyamuni said such words from an illusory place, but you must say such words from a demonstrable standard.

History must develop together with such a mother body. This world develops together with the mother body of history. History develops to become the object partner the mother body desires; it does not develop from a position of denying that mother -body, which is its cause. Otherwise, it does not become one world. Would it, or not? (Yes.) You who stand in such a place are certainly historical beings.

If you ask the prophets and martyrs or the filial sons and daughters whether they know the True Father and True sons and daughters, they will say they do not. Grasp anyone among the three billion people of the world and ask, and they do not know.

If one educates this, it will be the highest education among educations. If one teaches it from morning to evening, God too cannot but take an interest in this education. The education that can form a tie with God is this one path alone.

Therefore, an educator who teaches the tie of True Parents and True Children can become a teacher greater than anyone above Heaven and below Heaven. That teacher can, transcending time and space, become a historical object of adoration, and, whenever, become the guide before the path humankind goes. Such a central being is what today’s Christianity calls the Lord at the Second Advent. That thought is the thought of the returning protagonist. Seen this way, it is simple, is it not? In Christian terms, it is the thought of the Second Advent.

Without such thought, it will not do. One perishes. When one, equipped with a right sense of values, cuts off Satan’s lineage, the first words that can come out of it here are “True Father” and “True Sons and Daughters.” Even at the cost of han being formed, one must set this tie in one’s very bones and set the world of sin in order until it becomes a mother-body that Heaven and earth can acknowledge, and this phenomenal world can acknowledge. The subjective consciousness of stepping forth and doing it must be driven in thoroughly. When you do not seek to do this completely, it remains as a condition of judgment. Therefore, you must comply with this standard.

Let Us Have a Love God Can Acknowledge

Thereby, through those sons and daughters, a True Family must be formed. Only then does that True Family become a family that can cross beyond a thousand years of circumstance and cross beyond historical sorrow. Doing this, to seek the blessed place of rest, which is the ground of one day’s hope and happiness, is the standard countless religions wish for and the purpose God has worked His providence over six thousand years for. Though humankind until now is groaning in a wretched course of history, you must know that God making them overcome this is also because He came out hoping that that one purpose be accomplished.

When, passing through such a path, one takes a normal position and fulfills the duty of God’s son before the heavenly world, God can say, “Yes, without you I cannot live, and I cannot but boast of you.” On the day one equips the figure of such a son or daughter, the Kingdom of Heaven is automatically realized.

You must know how great a happiness it is that we have come to bear, before all the peoples of the world crossing countless national borders, before this history that has passed through long ages, and before the history to be woven in the future, a great event that occurs but once and is unprecedented and unrepeatable. The resolve for this, the conviction for this, must be clear. When one seeks to realize on this earth, hereafter, a living history crossing beyond that standard the world’s humankind wishes for, from here the new Kingdom of Heaven on earth begins. Do you understand? (Yes.)

Then if God said, even at the cost of death, to sell guns, what would you do? Must you sell or not sell? (We must sell.) But if He says not to sell, one must not sell even at the cost of death. You would be pleased if I did not say to sell. I, too, wish I did not say to sell. If the Teacher says to toil, you dislike it, do you not? Is there anyone in the world who likes it when told to give? One feels bad. When one is seized by the collar and told to give, does it feel good? It feels bad. One path by which the bad feeling can become good is the path of forming a parent-child relationship.

If one only forms such a relationship, even hell becomes the Kingdom of Heaven. The relationship of a loving husband and wife is so, and the relationship of true brothers is so.

If it is an elder brother who truly loves his younger brother, even seeing the younger ask for something, he is glad. But such social ethics, such human ethics, have not yet appeared on this earth.

To Have a Faith That Grasps Through Experience

A faith that grasps through experience—to have this, money will not do, and effort will not do. One must devote sincerity and pray. Even if one weaves a thousand years of history with one cup of water, one must have the conviction to go without spilling a single drop.

However rough and unsettling the world, one must say one will not let it encroach even a little on the path one goes.

One must have the conviction that the history of all ages is mobilized and cooperates. Only when one becomes a person who can do that can God bequeath to that person all the great achievements of Heaven.

All of you, after becoming God’s sons and daughters, will money be needed, or not?

At that time, even if you say it is not needed, it is set to be given. Would you like it if God blessed you materially, or not? (We would.) Suppose the Teacher became the world’s number-one rich man, and that whenever you needed money, if the Teacher only signed a check, you could receive any amount. Suppose that, according to my mind, I could write one for one won, or ten won, or a hundred won, or a hundred million, or ten billion, or a trillion, or a quadrillion. Then how much would you want to receive? (A quadrillion.) Then do you know when I would give that signature? I might write it when you are absent. That is decided by God.

If God gave a check to Unification Church members, saying He would give them a blessing not found in the world, how much would you want to receive? If you are not a servant apportioned one nyang, five nyang, ten nyang, then answer how much you need.

If God gives a blessing and gives as you ask, how much do you need? (A hundred quadrillion.)

If He gave that money, where would you use it? Do you have the confidence to set up a year’s budget with that money and make a profit? I ask whether you have confidence. Without even confidence, what would you do with that money? God does not do a losing business. In that sense, how much do you need? Answer. (I need four million won.) Four million won? It is too trifling to be in the budget.

God’s Way of Doing Business

Money is indeed needed, but just how much is needed?

When God says He will give, how much will you receive? That is a problem to consider. If you would earn money, the purpose for which to use it must be clear. Is that not so? The purpose must be clear. Those here who say their purpose is clear, raise your hands. There is not one. What will a person with no purpose do having received money? The problem lies there. So if I worked with you, ninety-five percent would fail.

How much money will the Unification Church’s Teacher Moon need?

The Teacher needs money because it is short. Money is infinitely short. Then what will I do? Hereafter, the Teacher will even buy America. The method of buying America is simple. If one makes the American people live ten times better than now, they will say, “Quickly, quickly, please take charge of America.” Would they, or not? (They would.) Buying the Republic of Korea is also simple. One can buy all of Daegu too.

If one makes the standard of living of Daegu citizens three times what it is now, the starving people will make a fuss for someone to take charge of Daegu. Buying is also simple. If one only makes them live several times better, even if one says one will not buy, they beg one to buy.

Then what will Unification Church members do?

Will you be sold, or not be sold? (We will not be sold.) If you will not be sold, what will you do? Must you not be one of the two—buy or be sold? What will you do? (We will buy.) Then buy me. Those who will buy me, raise your hands. If the Teacher says he will be sold, he is sold. Then will God be sold, or not? God too is sold to love.

If a beloved child, on the way back from abroad, breaks his leg and is stranded for three days, does the parent shoulder a bundle and rush over, or not? Even without saying so, the parent rushes. Any parent would do so. That can be called being sold on love.

Likewise, it is normal for a person to move toward the place of profit rather than the place of loss. A handsome person seeks the profit befitting a handsome person, and a homely person seeks the corresponding profit befitting a homely person. It is the principle that one follows only what can be a profit if it is shown.

You believe in the Unification Church; believing in the Unification Church, are you eating rice and beef stewed in soy sauce?

People who used to eat rice are now eating millet or barley. Is that well done, or ill done? Having received the love of father and mother day and night and lived at ease, after entering the Unification Church, you get beaten by father and mother, and when you come from church and try to go home, you read whether father and mother are there or not—yet is it a grateful thing? Is it good even when treated as a stepchild? Is this profit or loss? (It is profit.) What is profit?

The Unification Church does not take profit from the start. It is to take a loss first and profit later. God’s way of doing business is a bit different. Because one fell trying to take only profit, it is to take a loss first and profit later. Can a person who does not know the taste of loss know the taste of profit? He cannot. So a person who believes in the Unification Church must take a loss first.

Does the word indemnity mean one has been blessed or that one has taken a loss?

It means one has taken a loss. Does the word Restoration mean one has taken a loss or not taken a loss? (It means one has taken a loss.) The word Restoration means returning, does it not? Is it not that, because it is bad, one returns? So it is to take a loss first and profit later. You must know that. An ignorant person understands only when taught this way.

Let Us First Sacrifice and Toil

People who seek the path to God—that is, the good path—take loss first and profit later. When that loss does not end in one lifetime, it goes down over several generations, and only on the day it is all filled does one take profit.

Jesus too came to this earth and took loss. God had the people of Israel undergo toil and sacrifice for four thousand years to give them profit, and, after a certain time, sent the Messiah, but rather they seized and killed that Messiah.

Thereafter, the people of Israel suffered for two thousand years. The time to blossom again came, and Israel was founded, but just as they tried to kill Jesus long ago, enemy nations waged war against them. Here, if the people of Israel come to know God’s Will and come to a place where they can repent of having killed Jesus, Israel will not perish. So to keep Israel from perishing, the Unification Church must witness. It becomes so. Do you understand? (Yes.)

Considered centering on God’s providence, Christianity has come down taking loss for two thousand years until now. When one takes loss at the national standard, one becomes an origin by which a people can rise again, but one does not become an origin by which the world can rise. But when, connecting it, one takes a loss worldwide, centering on a worldwide standard and departing toward the world, the master who is to give worldwide profit comes; and who is that master? He is the Lord at the Second Advent.

To succeed religiously or economically, without first taking a loss, the purpose is not accomplished. Can a businessman succeed by playing about like an idler without hardship? He must undergo hardship. To overcome the hardship of mind, the hardship of body, and all trial and pain inside and out, one must input all of oneself. Only then can one succeed. And only by setting up the result of having taken a loss can one overcome difficulty, and by as much as one overcame that difficulty, it returns accomplished.

Because this is the principle of heavenly ethics, God has walked the path of toil until now to turn back the fortune of the universe. Yet, walking that reverse path (逆路), He took loss cleanly without growing weary. He made His truly beloved son perish, made His beloved nation perish, made His beloved world perish, and has come until now.

But when it is said this is all over, only profit remains. Just as the day comes when night passes and the moon wanes when it is full, all affairs of the world surely have an end. It is enjoined to wait until that measure is filled.

If, before that, one tries to fill the measure and cross over, however one tries to fill it, it is not filled but disappears. Therefore, following the law of heavenly ethics and right principle, one must devote the utmost sincerity to fill the measure and remain to the end. When one remains to the end and that measure comes to be filled, one becomes a person who can, for the first time, greet the sun of a bright new morning. Such a person will become a worldwide fortunate one.

If a person is so, that person; if an organization is so, that organization; if a nation is so, upon that nation fortune will come. Therefore, let us too become such an individual and organization and make such a nation.

Then, to make such a nation, how must one do?

It is to take a loss first for the sake of that nation. Everyone dislikes taking a loss. Therefore, one must make the people who dislike taking losses ride over my back and step over my belly. These people must let me take the profit. To that end, I must not take profit. I must take the loss. The path of attending God is such a path. Because if I do not go such a path, God must go such a path; before God suffers it, I must, in His stead, undergo hardship. When I take a loss and stand at the head, God comes seeking me. If God comes seeking, does He suffer hardship or not?

If I suffer hardship and pay that price, God does not suffer hardship. Therefore, God seeks such a place.

Religion must be such a religion. So the Unification Church says, Let us first undergo hardship before the people, sacrifice before the people, and go on taking loss. Starting from the individual, let us be for the people, and, centering on that people, take loss completely for the sake of the day the nation can rise again. Even taking loss completely this way, when the sincerity for the sake of the people accumulates greater than that of any people, upon the ground of that sincerity, a great blessing comes.

You, walking this bloody path of struggle until now, when you suffered wretchedness, said it was wretched, and when you suffered injustice, said it was unjust, and when you suffered indignation, said it was infuriating; but that is no more than one expedient for taking loss cleanly.

If, walking this path, you held an indignant mind, you yourselves are contradictory beings. Because the path one must go, even sacrificing completely and taking loss completely, is the path of Restoration, in setting right the principle of goodness, one cannot but pass through such a path. Because this is heavenly ethics, one must stand in a position of conforming to that principle.

In a position where one can feel emotion, where one’s flesh and blood remain, where one’s eyes can still see, and where the mission of saving the people remains, one who nonetheless says he will receive blessing and criticizes centering on himself must be punished.

Now we have a mission we must give to the Republic of Korea. On the inner side, we must equip and give the character side, and on the outer side, we must equip and give the material side—we must give on both sides.

Although we have come to a position where we can give this way, because that limit line is not yet set on this earth, we must do our utmost. Because it comes from the spirit world at that standard too, when we give completely for the sake of the people, God cannot but come to us. And in coming, He comes in glory.

One Must Believe to Give

Even though God must give completely, only when the Unification Church gives completely in God’s stead does God come. When that happens, only then is the ground of national glory prepared there.

Seen from this point, though you may boast that you have believed in the Unification Church for ten years or several years until now, did you believe to receive or believe to give?

If you truly received well, you must give well. And if you received without price, you must give without price. In giving, one must not limit it to one person but must give from a position that stands, crossing beyond the world, within the immense sphere of thought called Cosmos-ism.

Because we have sought a path of giving upward for the sake of Heaven and downward for the sake of humankind, in giving we must drive in a cornerstone. What I give must become like a cornerstone used in building a house. You, from the position of knowing all of a hundred years’ circumstances, must devote sincerity and do the work of giving well.

Seen from this point, the saying in our Unification Church to choose sons and daughters of faith is a holy saying. If one rightly sets up a standard by which one can give well, all nations set their horizon to that standard.

If that happens, just as a great building can be raised high on this earth but, when its foundation goes wrong, everything collapses; however splendid a people is and however great a historical merit and ancestral benefit it holds, when its foundation goes wrong, that people collapses.

Seen from such a position, the path the Teacher goes is wretched. You must know that the Teacher is one who cannot rejoice even after winning. You must know the responsibility of a leader who must pass through such a course, in which, even after continuous fighting ends, one must not be conscious of oneself and who must pioneer such a path of fate. The warriors gathered under the banner of unification today must be able to spread a single front nationwide and charge toward the enemy camp swarming with countless enemies. To become such warriors, one must arm oneself inside and out and equip full readiness.

Furthermore, crossing beyond the position of receiving even from the satanic world, one must be able to give to any people. Further, one must have the magnanimity to be able to give even to Satan.

Because Satan too wishes to receive love, one must hold a mind to love even Satan. When one advances with such magnanimity, Satan too, without fail, praises that warrior as a warrior of Heaven finer than his soldiers. Jesus Christ was too advanced with such a mind, so even while dying on the cross, he could pray for his enemy. Therefore, he gave well and went.

Seen from this point, is the business you now do to receive or to give? Is it to give or to receive? Where does the issue lie? It is that one must give. In now selling guns, with what mind does one sell?

One must hold the conviction that one sells not for the sake of selling guns but to save the Republic of Korea, which is in imminent crisis. One sells because one must use the money from the guns to a value greater than ten million geum.

Therefore, if one sells many guns, North Gyeongsang, if North Gyeongsang, can live; South Gyeongsang, if South Gyeongsang, can live; and, further, the Republic of Korea can live.

My selling guns is to give for the sake of these people and to save these people. It is to give not to some one person of the people but to a thousand, ten thousand, the whole people. Therefore, this gun is by no means a fifteen-thousand-won thing. One must go and sell it with the mental posture that it is of more value than ten million won, feeling a grateful mind, an awed mind, and a sense of duty and responsibility toward God. When one does so, God is together with one. Do you understand what I mean?

You have not yet given completely. Hereafter, drawing the resources of three nations centering on the Republic of Korea to make these people live well is the mission of the Unification Church. The Unification Church must, without fail, fulfill this mission.

At the spiritual standard, what is the final blessing true humankind must pursue? The final blessing is nothing else. What is the wish of a son or daughter in the position of an orphan whose parents died early? It is not money. It is not rice either. The wish of such a person is only that the dead father and mother come back to life. Likewise, in giving a gift before humankind, let us, in the true sense, give the highest gift. And when introducing them, let us introduce the true thing; when showing, let us show the right thing; and let us teach the unerring thing.

In teaching, what shall we teach?

It is not to teach how to earn money. Nor is it to teach studying well and getting ahead. It is to teach the duty of True Parents completely that all humankind in this age wishes for, and of the true children tied to Them. There is nothing more valuable than that.

Where lies the reason you today revere the Teacher, follow the Teacher by fate, and must attend a teacher? Though it is a position of half-doubt, still, because it is a position where one can rest, as long as one does not find something that can deny that mind, one cannot but go this path of fate. But we, though on the spiritual side we are in a position to give completely to the thirty million people, on the physical side we are still in a position where we cannot give.

The Unification Church, Which Must Present a Worldwide Modernization Movement

How much must the Unification Church contribute today for the modernization of the fatherland?

The present Republican Party government is unfolding a fatherland modernization movement. Upon that foundation, we must present a worldwide modernization movement. This is precisely the mission of the Unification Church. Do you understand? (Yes.) To that end, immense resources are needed. Then how to prepare those resources is the issue.

When a perfect subject appears, a perfect object also appears. When the center of the truth is decided, its corresponding conditions are joined. The temporal distance is not yet connected, and the age-environment in which corresponding conditions can appear is not yet formed, but when such an environment is formed, not only the material conditions of the world but the whole world will come rushing before us.

One must not think only of the individual economy. If I think about centering on the individual economy, I have already crossed beyond the standard of living by which I can live. But I have not set this standard as the center of the economic foundation that any organization or our church can use.

Upon the present economic foundation, we must prepare an economic foundation by which we can connect with the nation, and we must also think about the problem of how to prepare an economic foundation by which we can connect with the world.

In doing business, we must do it centering not only on the domestic scene but on the world stage. Thereby we must prepare an origin by which, embracing all humankind of the world and giving them material together with God’s love, we can be eternally grateful before God. God seeks to make such an origin today by putting our throng of unification in front.

Though God loves human beings on the inner side, our Unification Church is in a position to be able to give on both sides in God’s stead even in the material field. Therefore, we, as God’s sons, can even judge Satan. You must know that. God cannot judge Satan, but we today can boldly judge Satan. That is because we take responsibility in the inner field and also in the outer field, giving on both sides. Therefore, we are in a position where we can be finer than Satan and finer than God. So we can judge Satan and also liberate God.

Such an immense mission is placed before us. We must feel and realize the fact that Heaven and earth, and the history to come, are urging us toward the fulfillment of this mission. Overall, it is not money that is the issue, but I. Who is the issue? I am the issue. That is, the True Parent and the true self are the issue. If only this is resolved, all problems end.

In gathering money, one must not say one will feed one’s own sons and daughters well with the money gathered. Before giving to sons and daughters, one must set up the condition that one gave for the sake of the world. Because those sons and daughters are sons and daughters for the sake of the world, one must first give to the world and then give to the sons and daughters. Do you understand?

If, before my family, I first give for the sake of the people and then try to give for the family, God gives blessing to my family and me. God feeds and keeps my sons and daughters alive. Even if I try to give, there is no need.

If there is a throng that thus sacrifices all of itself, gives all the property it has for the nation and for the world, and goes on sacrificing, they are automatically set to receive blessing.

How did America come to be a nation that receives worldwide trust today?

It is because after World War II, it gave aid even to the nations defeated in the war—that is, enemy nations. That is, because it gave in God’s stead, America’s position rose. But as this gradually decreases, it falls.

Just let America retreat from Asia. Then the Soviet fleet will gradually approach by way of the Indian Ocean. On the other hand, America gradually retreats. Just wait about five or seven years.

The Right Attitude to Take in Economic-Restoration Activity

The year 1981 is when our Third Seven-Year Course ends, and I say wait until then. In Asia, the foundation of unification will gradually increase. Centering on the problem of how to make this worldwide by then, the Teacher is planning a strategy. Do you understand? (Yes.) To back this vast plan, people are needed, but money is also needed. Yet before money, people who can move first are needed. It is to make people first, then make money.

Then is money the issue, or am I the issue? (I am the issue.) In selling guns, one must not become a person sold to the gun. When you go about the city of Daegu, you must go about to collect historical material.

If we have stood on the Unification front for material economic restoration today, we must exert all our strength there. We must become soldiers who march through the streets while gazing at the purpose. Because all the supply lines of our friendly forces are cut off, you must know that I have stepped forth as the representative to do this.

When you in Daegu say you will take responsibility for the life of the whole country and for the entire Unification Church, God will grasp the throng of Daegu and work His providence, holding the tie of blessing He had regarded at the standard of the whole. The Teacher is not saying, Having you do it, to make an enterprise for the sake of the Republic of Korea. It is to make something greater than that. Therefore, I am the issue. Do you understand? (Yes.) It is enjoined absolutely not to become a person sold out to the gun.

Therefore, if there is an unjust matter, store it all up. A person has their time. It is not to be forgotten. One must leave a tradition for historical economic restoration. One must be able to boast, “To give completely, as a warrior of the pioneering age, overcoming all difficulties, I fought this way.”

We now are active to make material that can be left as a tradition for the descendants of ten thousand generations. In going such a path, one will be mocked, one will meet times when people spit and turn away, and one will meet times when people seize one’s necktie and slap one’s cheek. But that is by no means sorrowful.

In resolving the problem of economic restoration to find that nation, there will be even greater things than that. You must go forward holding the mind that all of this is one absolute condition, equipping the pride of a warrior in doing economic restoration for the sake of these people and the world, and that it raises the target amount one must attain.

Even if money does not come in, one must not feel disappointed. It is enjoined not to be disheartened because it does not sell. With such a spirit, how will one go? The problem lies there.

If one must continue a work others cannot do for a year, one must do so, and if, even after doing so, one must do it again to accomplish tomorrow’s hope, one must continue it even for two years. If one only drags it on for ten years, after ten years one will, without fail, achieve a success others cannot.

You must absolutely not be sold on the gun. Do you understand? (Yes.) I am not a person who advertises guns. I am a person who advertises people. One must sell guns knowing that it is to make a material and economic foundation for realizing the solemn heart-world of God, staking the people.

Even if that gun breaks down and becomes useless and one is in a situation of having to sell it as scrap iron, one must sell the gun with such a mind that God can say, “This gun must not be sold as scrap iron; it must be kept in Heaven’s storehouse.” Do you understand? (Yes.) Sell it with such a sincere mind.

The Teacher’s View of Economy

When you take this up, it is a gun like a mere stick, but in this gun the soul of the people is lodged, and there is a thought that the peoples of later generations must take as their model. Therefore, a person who sells a gun with such a mind leaves behind that gun, a tie that cannot be cut even if one weaves a thousand years of history.

If such a person has sold a hundred guns, that all becomes his property. Do you understand? (Yes.) If he has sold a thousand, as much as he sold, it all becomes his property. Even if he offers it to headquarters, that by no means ends with only offering it to headquarters. God brings you, through headquarters, a blessing tens or hundreds of times greater. You must handle material from a position where you can do that.

That I have done this work until now is not to gather money. I have much money to use. But there is not a single private motive of mine in it. Accordingly, it is used publicly for the future of the Republic of Korea. Do you understand? (Yes.) Therefore, because Heaven’s time has come when one must equip the economic conditions absolutely necessary to resolve the nation’s fate, we must all devote sincerity centering on the economic problem.

Over twelve years, in developing the factory too, I devoted more sincerity than any enterprise owner in the Republic of Korea. God knows that. When I resolve and go forth with confidence, evil Satan is set to retreat. This is an iron rule.

There is no private motive in the Teacher’s view of the economy. As long as there is God in governing the fortune of the Republic of Korea, and there is God’s administration in building the economy of the Republic of Korea, I have pursued that purpose from a public position, apart from private motive, more than anyone in the Republic of Korea. Therefore, if anyone here sets a condition and opposes it, that opposing person is broken.

If one goes forward holding such conviction, even things that seem they cannot be done are all done.

Even if one lives one’s whole life as a slash-and-burn farmer in a mountain valley, gripping a hoe handle and digging up bellflower roots to eat, one must hold the mind that with the tip of that hoe, one angles for Heaven and earth.

Knowing that things are woven according to the tie of the ordinances of Heaven and earth, you must be able to praise this. You must know the fact that such a person, though living a thatched-hut life in the mountains, later becomes a leader of that nation.

The Witnesser and the Gun-Seller Have the Same Purpose

The issue is you yourselves. You do not move for the sake of money. For what do you move? You move for the sake of the nation and for the sake of the world. Then for what does the Unification Church witness? That too is for the sake of the nation and the world. Then does the purpose of the witness and the gun seller differ? (It is the same.) It is the same. Neither is better than the other. Because they are the same, they become brothers.

It is enjoined not to interpose oneself here. In selling guns, there may be someone who thinks the place he is in is so precious. And there may be someone who says the commission of a thousand won each is small, so it would be good to give three thousand won each. I know all about how you have become cousins of a thief. It is only because, hearing my words, you thought it would not do and you would suffer disgrace that you unavoidably remain like this; otherwise, you would already have all thrown up your hands. That people who would do so were made to be like this is also a great thing.

That is why the Message is good. Turning it this way makes one a man, and turning it that way makes one a woman. Having spoken this way, now you will know your position. Even selling guns and carrying about whatever, one must not become a person who chases after money. I am too trifle-averse to do that.

If you did business with a trifling mind, I would absolutely not have come down here. Am I some advertising general who goes about advertising to sell guns? It feels bad. Though you may think it hard, it is to do it for the sake of the nation. It is to do it for the sake of the world. Do you understand? If one does that, does one’s honor stand? (It stands.) Therefore, there is nothing that cannot be done.

That I do such work is also for the sake of the world, and that I speak as a representative of religion with the content of the Bible is also for the sake of the world. Which work will be faster? If it is thought that this air-gun business is even a little faster, one must do it with zest. That is, if earning money seems faster, one must do it with even more zest.

When you negotiate to witness, do the people of the world say the taste of the Principle is tastier than the taste of a hotteok pancake? If you tell them to listen to the Principle from the start, they will not even look, but if you feed them even a hotteok and then tell them to listen, they at least pretend to listen.

That Professor Suh Nam-dong could testify to the Principle this way this time is because the Teacher has unfolded an interdenominational movement until now. Much money was spent on this interdenominational movement. Without your knowing, this movement is now being unfolded.

If one tells university professors to lecture, giving them only three times the lecture fee they receive when lecturing at their schools, they say, “Oh, thank you.” If one only has money, one can do it all even sitting in the inner room. To do that too, one must earn money. Do you understand? (Yes.)

This situation is the same in Japan and the same in America. Even the famous pastors now in America, if one only deposits about a million dollars, will cling by the dozens. They will rush over desperately, shouldering their bundles, and, even if the Teacher were a goblin, make a fuss to attend to him and do it quickly. Therefore, hereafter, moving the world is simple. The Teacher has that much of a head. Do you understand? (Yes.) So it is enjoined to trust only the Teacher. I do not know whether I will become a goblin’s cousin or not, but until now I have not become a goblin’s cousin. What the Teacher has said until now is fitting reasonably well, is it not? (Yes.) So now, having tasted and lived it, you may as well be taken in a bit.

In that sense, if I said, “Let us sell five hundred thousand guns,” would you do it? (Yes.) Would you do it that way? (Yes.) To do so, one must go at it whether one lives or dies. If one cannot sell them, one unavoidably dies. Even so, will you try it once? (Yes.) Then it is settled. So I feel good. It is time to eat supper, but I feel so good I forget even that.

You may say what a trifling ragtag lot there is here in such numbers, but are you a trifling ragtag lot or a splendid lot? (A splendid lot.) Now you seem to have become more splendid than a moment ago. You yourselves think so too, do you not? (Yes.) Now you have become much more splendid. If a little more is added here, you can do anything.

All of you, you know the spaceship?

I wanted to make Armstrong my younger brother, but before I could, he first flew off riding the spaceship. Those rascals—I was going to do that, and he did it first.

So I just watched it on television, but I set up a certain indemnity condition regarding it. Otherwise, I could not bear to watch it. The Teacher is a person who cannot sleep at night unless he does so. That is the Teacher’s nerve.

In Anything, Be Either First in the World or Last

Seeing this, you met the Teacher wrongly. Did you meet him well or ill? (We met him well.) In anything, one must become either first in the world or, rather, last. If one cannot be this, one must say one cannot even die. Even in becoming last, one must become a last that watches, not a last that follows along. Therefore, in following along too, if one cannot be first, one rather does not do it. That is why today I am planting the highest flag in the world, saying I will realize a unified world under Heaven.

Is that not so?

Therefore, God does not merely watch. It has become a little better than a moment ago, has it not? (Yes.) So now you have come to cross the boundary line of the satanic world.

Would it be good for Korea to prosper more than Japan, or worse?

(It would be good for it to prosper more.) And would it be good for Korea to prosper more than America, or worse? (It would be good for it to prosper more.) Those who say it would be good for it to prosper more, raise your hands. There is a condition to prospering. Do you wish to prosper more than Japan without hardship? One who says he will prosper without hardship is a thief. And in prospering more than America too, one must not prosper without hardship greater than the American people’s. But the issue is whether Korea can prosper or not. Can it, or not? (It can.)

When I look at Americans, their noses stick out so that they look grotesque, and their eyes are so blue that with such eyes it seems they could not even see, and their noses are so big that they get in the way when kissing. They look like parrots. Have you seen a parrot kiss? Since we are all men here, let us speak openly.

When one considers such things, if one says the Easterner is finer than the Westerner, one must set that right. One must not say one is superior indiscriminately.

What is there in which the Korean is inferior to the American?

When the Korean has resolved more than the American, there can be no such thing as the American being superior to the Korean. And in what is the Japanese finer than the Korean? When the Korean has resolved more than that, there is absolutely nothing in which he is inferior to Japan.

It is a matter of time. One must tighten one’s belt. Ten years from now, to how many nations will one go out as a missionary? The issue lies there. Then with what does one urge ideological cohesion or unity? It is done with the Unification thought. The Teacher is putting it into practice. Is that so, or not? (It is so.)

Now, among you there are people living together with their wives, and if the Teacher told them to come without living together, would they come? Living happily together, if told to come, would they come or not? (We would go.)

If there is anyone here who has a wife, raise your hand. When I look at your eyes, I know all. Those who raised their hands just now—if told to leave your wives and follow me, would you do so? (Yes.) Even if I said, “Go to Lake Cheonji on Mount Baekdu, cast a fishing line, and pass the years,” would you follow? (Yes.) Even if one dislikes it, one must do it, and even if one likes it, one must do it.

Even if told to do a disliked thing, you would not complain, right? (Yes.) If one does not complain when set to a disliked task, then, conversely, when set to a liked task, one must complain. One must have a philosophy of complaining when set to a liked task and not complaining when set to a disliked task.

If a people becomes one that puts only this into practice, it commands the world. Would it, or not? (It would.) If I told you to work twelve hours a day, sweating blood, to make an expressway, would you like it or dislike it? (We would dislike it.)

If, despite disliking it, you do not complain and continue that work smiling, what do you think would happen?

If these people only hold such thoughts, no one in the world can withstand these people. Do you understand? So what must you do about what others dislike? (We must like it.) What must you do about what others like? (We must dislike it.)

What Kind of Person Is a Person of Character?

What kind of person is a person of character?

Most people are all pleased when they rise to a higher seat. When they become even a little higher, they are all pleased. A country person, having been in the seat of township head, when moved up to the seat of county magistrate, says, “Oh, how good. It is this good.” But even when told, “Sit up here,” one must say, “Sorry, but this as it is suits me.” If one does so, does that person rise or not? (He rises.) Character is such a thing.

That is why it is said that he who would be exalted is abased, and he who would be abased is exalted. This is the issue. That is, he who would become good becomes bad. One who, in a good place, dislikes the good becomes good, and one who likes the good becomes bad. It becomes so.

Today the Unification Church members, even when others dislike them and set up an iron wall telling them not to go, must break through it. When one charges this way and it is broken through all at once, on that day the world is unified instantly. Do you understand or not?

Then what would be the most disliked thing in the Republic of Korea?

Think about it. We must restore the Republic of Korea as soon as possible and, riding the whole heavenly fortune of the Republic of Korea, render a settlement; to do so, we must do the thing said to be most disliked in the Republic of Korea. What is the most disliked thing to do in the Republic of Korea? What is the hardest hardship among hardships? It is crossing the 38th parallel. Why do people dislike crossing the 38th parallel? It is because one’s neck may come off. They dislike crossing the 38th parallel most. It is nothing else. (The recording was interrupted.)

Is there a business where, over a year, one only manufactures for nine months and must sell all those goods in three months? Is there, or not? (There is not.) That is to perish. Perishing is the formula. But have we perished until now, or not? (We have not.) It is because there are pitiable you that we do not perish.

A man named Park Dong-gi is said to have made several thousand guns; just watch. That man will now perish.

Do you think he will sell them for cash?

Watching what we do, he followed and set them on installment, but do you think he can collect the installment money scattered across the three-thousand-ri peninsula himself? Since it is easily defaulted, how will he collect it?

In the end, he melts away in the installment strategy himself. That man is not doing it these days, I hear. (Yes.) He is not making air rifles, I hear? (Yes, he is not.) When I make a powder gun, then he will completely pack up his bundle. Let us push aside one person, two persons, this way and go forward.

Just Try Doing as the Teacher Says

Just try doing exactly as the Teacher says. Later I intend to sell even hundred-won socks on a three-month installment. On the day that it is collected, the economy of Korea will play in my hand within a few years. Do you understand? The Teacher holds a thoroughgoing thought. Until now the Teacher has been in a wretched position, driven off to prison and chased about over the Ewha Womans University incident, but just wait a little longer.

When the thirty million people mocked, countless people must have thought, “Oh, that fellow’s lot is harsh and his luck is harsh,” and expected me to drift off and vanish like a cloud. But they thought wrong. They did not know there was lightning striking within the cloud. That is how I have come.

Let them perish if they perish; if I were the sort to vanish at such trifling criticism, I would not even have begun this work. I have formally been in and out of prison six times now and lived a full four years or more of prison life. Even undergoing such things, I have not perished. I only go by my judgment.

Hereafter, when the time comes, I will disregard all our Unification Church members and test you once, asking, “Will you believe in the Unification Church, or not?” I will set you upside down and ask whether you still believe. It is to test whether the Unification thought stands upright and whether one can become a person of the great Unification household. I would like to test once how many men there are who can inherit the traditional thought by which I sought to set up an unchanging fidelity before God while following the Will and can hand such thought over to these people. Would it be good to try? (Yes.)

Long ago the Teacher had a dog he loved. But a situation arose in which he had to kill that dog. That dog, seeing me, made a gesture begging to be spared. The Teacher truly loved that dog, but because there might be a time of trial ahead when he must drive his beloved sons and daughters onto the path of death, he once killed that dog.

Such a time of trial may come before our Unification Church hereafter. It may be so hereafter. That is why I test you. Do you understand? (Yes.) Even if one goes back and forth over the crossroads of life and death several times, one must become a person who can say, “Shall the iron-and-stone fidelity a man has fixed change?”

Even while I received such cruel torture from the Japanese scoundrels, I did not expose the secrets. Because by one word of mine, the lives of dozens went back and forth. In order to keep the secrets for the sake of my brothers and comrades, I overcame it and came through. I have been tortured for seven hours, eight hours, even over twelve hours. I am a person who has gone back and forth over the crossroads of life and death dozens of times. But I shook my head and even made the resolve, “Strike me, you rascals. I will test once before you the lesson I learned from you. I will do more than you now do in torturing me, not less. Even if I draw my sword and cut down a third of the world, I will not, as a sinner’s body before God, put on the cap of glory.”

So when my mother wept, I turned away from my mother; when my brothers wept, I drove my brothers off; and when my wife and children wept, I drove even my wife and children off. Do you know such things?

It is enjoined that trifling, wishy-washy people not so much as come near. Even now I cannot bear it when things go against principle. Therefore, before anyone, I blow up what is not principle. In going the path one must go for the sake of the Will, there must be no side effects. Because if one gets angry in the morning, one’s whole day feels bad, even if one gets angry in the evening when the sun sets; one must endure in the morning. Now, which is like the morning on the road I go, one must endure.

If one goes forth that way, one can set things in clean order in the evening. Do you understand? (Yes.) It is not a bluff; the fact is so. The Teacher, if severe, is a very severe person. That is why I melted Satan away, is it not? Do you all know that? (Yes.)

The issue is the satanic world and the spirit world. You must not live holding the thought of living as you please, as you have until now. This North Gyeongsang, where you are active, is in a tremendously urgent state. From now on, we must restore this land of Daegu. Though the hand does not yet reach it, I will angle it out starting from Seoul.

I sometimes go to Cheongpyeong and fish for carp, and that is not simply to catch fish. Staying up all night, hearing the cock crow at dawn, I think, “Who will be the one to hear tomorrow’s dawn bell? Who will be the one, at that time, to prepare the dawn meal and greet the coming guest?”

Become a Warrior of Heaven

Let us not become people who receive the dispatch in the morning. And let us not become people who receive the final special order in the daytime. One must become a warrior of Heaven who, at dawn’s first light or the instant just past midnight, receives a worldwide secret order and can carry out a worldwide action while others sleep. God longs for such a person. Holding such a mind, criticizing and appraising oneself, one must try to live a more meaningful life.

Now where must you go?

Since you have come to know the Unification Church, now there is no further place to go. In the old days it was a pitch-dark night, so, going, one unavoidably turned back. Now it is gradually becoming day, so the path to go is bright. Is it bright, or not? (It is bright.) Now it takes only crossing one threshold.

Now, if the Unification Church only advances a little more, even the President must consult me to root out the corruption of this nation. If it is done only as I direct, the corruption of this nation can be rooted out within three years. It is simple. Do you understand? (Yes.)

If one only prepares three thousand warriors of unification and steps forth, tightening one’s belt for three years, there is no problem. If one educates them within a year, forms an organization, and moves, one can do as one pleases. One plants the Unification thought firmly in people of mottled, impure ideology and lays bare the corruption before the world. It would be good to do that, would it not? (Yes.) But before doing that work, I will first do so for the officers of our Unification Church. One must analyze the hearts of all the families. The war is not yet over. Therefore, one must not become a wishy-washy man. Understand? (Yes.)

What kind of stubbornness is the stubbornness of the Gyeongsang person called?

It is called mule-headed stubbornness, is it not? That word seems bad but is a good word. If only the Unification thought once enters, even the Gyeongsang person is useful. Shall we try it once in Daegu, or not? (Let us do it.) Is it true? (Yes.) If only you unite, the world is not frightening.

Look at me. In the days of refuge, the Teacher lived wretchedly, alone, building a mud-walled house on top of Beomil-dong. Above I dyed and wore American work clothes, and below I wore Korean-style trousers, and when spring came I unavoidably pulled out all the cotton batting and wore them rolled up.

Moreover, I went about wearing rubber shoes. That appearance would be quite something, would it not?

Then I went to the labor site and worked. At Busan’s third and fourth piers, I did work making bridges, all shoulder-pole hauling. At some time a prince of God, transformed into such a figure, must introduce these things experienced in the days of refuge as material for education. I am a person who is good at shoulder-pole hauling too. There is nothing I cannot do.

If told to carry salt sacks at a salt farm, do you think I could not?

Wherever one goes, you may starve, but I, if I only change my clothes, absolutely do not starve.

By some means I do the work. Do I not look so? I am a person who has graduated from all such things. I am a person who has gone to a beggars’ den and played the boss and even begged for rice and done all manner of things. Not only that. I am a person who has even done the work of spirited away pitiful girls to rescue them by going into a tavern. So what work would I not have tried?

I am a person who, once I say I will do a thing, does it. To realize God’s providence of Restoration, I have done all manner of things and rushed forth without hesitation. Because I have built up such a standard of success, a time will come when, in Asia, one cannot but acknowledge me and cannot but remember me. Will you too remember me as such a person? Rather than remembering, you must put it into practice to become such a person. So on the day you unite, there is nothing that cannot be done.

All of you, do you know the accounting manager?

When I met the accounting manager, he was a shaggy-haired bachelor of nineteen. Four years passed thereafter, and he became twenty-three; what work would there be? So I had him do restaurant-boy work and all sorts of things. He ate the rice fetched for him, and instead of lunch ate scorched rice crust. That does not mean I did it because of rice. It means I had him experience all manner of things. It was very dramatic, striking, and enjoyable.

When it is cold, people all gather on the sunny side. Then, frowning, one goes and says one is hungry and must eat, so do not torment people and please move aside. “You have all eaten breakfast and lunch too, have you not? We have not even had breakfast, so do not mistreat people eating breakfast and move over there.”

Having set it up this way, we would sit in a ring on the sunny side and eat. Eating rice that way is very enjoyable. There, there is a philosophy others do not know. It is very fascinating. Now, wherever I go, I have many companions. People are all my friends. Feeling flows through. When I see a load-carrier, I can weave a thousand years of circumstance with that person.

All of you, when you see an ox standing in the middle of a levee, gazing at a distant mountain and meditating, it is quite something, is it not? It is more something than Confucius. There, there is some circumstance. Therefore, a person going with the Will embraced cannot grieve even when sorrowful, cannot be lonely even when lonely, and cannot be wretched even when wretched. He cannot be so. In him the spirit of the people is contained, and the soul of the people goes back and forth. A new world must depart from him. Even people who had no Will, if I light the fire, explode.

The Path Men Must Go

Wherever the Teacher goes to a labor site, even going with his clothes off, within three days he obtains clothes to wear and food to eat. Even in the beginning, I beg it to go into the inner room. That is quite an enjoyable thing. I have lived this way until now; is such a Teacher good or bad? (He is good.) I will not perish this way. How dramatic it is! When I take up a brush and record the scenes I have passed through, it will become the yeast of a new thought that can bloom flowers in the hearts of the youth of the coming twenty-first century. This is splendid. Seen this way, the Teacher is a first-rate actor unseen in history. Do you understand? You, too, must live that way.

“Sweat hard! Strive! Drive on! Drive it hard!”—this is precisely the path men must go. Such people must become one and realize a unified world under Heaven. One must become a person at whom Heaven and earth are astonished and topple over, and who can make it be said that without us it will not do. Seen this way, this North Gyeongsang Province is too small. It is so small there is nothing to see.

Now we are in a position like refugees who have fled. In such a state, what else can we do? We must labor and do whatever comes to hand. When our Unification Church members go out to witness, what else can we do? We must sit astride the furrows and do it while humming a tune, must we not? Have you done that, or not? People who have not done such work will hold han. When such a person later goes to the spirit world, when the Teacher’s history comes out, they will all repent and be unable to lift their faces. In the spirit world, if one only presses a switch, the Teacher’s whole past comes out.

The labor sites I frequented when the Teacher was in Japan and the recent work of pulling a load cart are vivid even now. That is not something I did to eat. It is nothing else. It is that, in undergoing hardship in youth, I must become an example. To let a student who could not attend school graduate, I quit school for a few months and even played the role of their mother and father. Do you understand? There was no separate night. I would rise at two in the morning and do such work.

I have gone through all manner of such things. Then for what did I do so? It is not that I am inferior to anyone to have done so. I went out to a company and worked, and also sold my handwriting. At times I even did on-site supervision at a company. Now, even when I go to our factory, I do not speak of such things.

When one is young—that is, until before thirty-one must try anything. When one trusts one’s own hand and does anything with conviction, within six months one becomes such that one does not lose to anyone. One must trust oneself, holding such conviction. Do you think God would trust a person who does not trust himself? You just try to do things half-heartedly, do you not? Doing things half-heartedly that way, God does not even snort. Do you understand? (Yes.)

Because there are not yet people whose measure is thus full, I intend to drive on and make such people and set them to work. Those who welcome it, raise your hands.

When raising hands, it feels good only if raised all at once; what is this?

Now raise them once more. Just as one must think, at the moment of death, that one dies instantly whether breathing in or out, one must do it clearly. I dislike a person who is useless here and useless there. Even the Bible says it dislikes the lukewarm. Is lukewarm water tasty? Wherever I go, I do not drink unless it is cold water.

Some person may say, “What grudge does the Teacher hold against us that he glares so and makes a fuss?” Such a person is that way because he is still unripe. That I do so is all for a reason. All this is not for my sake but for the sake of your descendants.

When I was in Beomil-dong, I dressed shabbily, and two shaggy-haired bachelors lived in a cave-like house. To others’ eyes, it must have looked wretched. Wonpil said he himself would go earn money, and the Teacher told him to do so. At that time I was writing the Original Text of the Principle, and I cannot tell you how precious a comrade was, how precious even one person who followed was. You, too, must know this taste for people. That is why, when Wonpil went out to the company, I would, without fail, follow him out over a kilometer, and only doing so was my mind at ease. And when it came time for him to return in the evening, I would, without fail, go out to meet him, and that taste of meeting was beyond words. Coming back that way, at night we slept, and having no quilt, we would sleep covered with a single wrapping-cloth. At that time we lived that way.

The Beomil-dong Days

There was a church in that neighborhood, and that church, seeing us—since we were good people, knew the Bible well, spoke eloquently, and it was also heard that we had attended church—wished to witness to us. The Teacher said, Do all the witnessing you like, and quietly listened. When they spoke to the witness, I received it well.

So when they came to witness, I would say, “Welcome. Have you something you wish to say?” and listen well for however many hours. Then the person who came to witness, thinking I had surely become his church member, would be pleased and just go the first day.

Then the next day they surely come. Then I would speak, saying, “Now, have you said all you have to say? Is there no more? Then shall I ask one thing?” When I ask them all sorts of things this way, what would those people know? “Is Jesus so ignorant? The Bible seems to be made ignorantly?”—I set down such a remark. That is not to say such a thing because I am gifted. Because that person did not know the Bible well, I said such a thing, but no one is set up to be able to say the Bible is wrong.

How can a person who does not know the Bible witness?

Saying, “I do not attend church, but shall you try hearing a Bible story I know?” one starts the talk smoothly. At the very first, I absolutely do not say anything that would give that person indigestion to hear. Quietly reading the situation, if the person is the nervous type, I speak in a slow, unhurried way. Speaking that way for just a few hours, they come to do as I say. If one talks about it while glaring with the eyes, one’s spirit goes quite dizzy.

There was a well in that neighborhood, and the people who came to draw water there said it was rumored that that house did not quarrel, but these days it quarrels, and they thought it strange. Quietly listening to the talk, a seemingly simple person, who did not seem the sort to do so, was making a fuss saying such-and-such, and seeing that, this became a topic of talk. Listening to the talk, the content was that the world goes back and forth and Heaven and earth turn upside down and rise.

Looking at the getup, it was utterly beyond description, and though living in such a house from which a goblin might appear, since I was telling immense tales of gulping down the world in one fist, of Heaven and earth turning over, and of Korea unifying the whole world all at once, a rumor arose. When the rumor spread, “I went to that neighborhood, and the man who was silent at the well was tremendous,” would people not keep gathering?

At some times a person attending some seminary would come and say, “In history many people finer than you came and dreamed of a unified world, yet none accomplished it. And you say you will unify here?”

At that time, speaking, I quietly thought, and it was truly wretched. Because I had dug a ditch for water to flow and built the house over it, under the floor there came the trickle-trickle sound of flowing water, and sitting in such a house speaking such immense words, who would believe?

If it were you, would you believe?

Now it is all right, since at least about two hundred fifty people gather and show a look of agreement, but at that time I spoke sitting face to face, one to one. When they ate better, dressed better, and lived better than I, what was there for them to believe of my words?

Who knew that a man of the Beomil-dong valley would become like this today? Did you know it or not? They say a person’s lot is a matter of time, but it became like this in a mere fifteen years.

Likewise, if you now, from such a position, go out to the provinces to pioneer and, bearing responsibility, become men of the moment who present problems, is this North Gyeongsang the issue?

To do so, how must one do it?

One must undergo training. Shall I have you trained, or not? (Please train us.) Now, seeing that you no longer even have the strength to answer loudly, I too have no strength to speak. When one speaks for a long time, is the speaker more tired, or the listener more tired? You seem to want supper. Since my words are not yet finished, I will keep you from eating supper.

Fulfill Your Responsibility

In Gyeonggi Province and Gangwon Province, I spoke until 9:40. Just as when steaming siru-tteok, the more it cooks, the more a savory smell comes; it is the same with talk. Has it been three hours since I began the talk? Now, when I cross four hours, five hours, I will tell the fascinating story. Shall I do it or stop? (Please do it.) It feels bad, this Gyeongsang lot. Where is there such a way of treating a guest so poorly? Shall I tell the story, or not? (Please tell it.)

If one only mobilizes you here, there is nothing that cannot be done. Can one drive and catch a living tiger, or not? (One can.) Is it really so? (Yes.) Then we must go to Mount Baekdu. At that time, when I say, Let only the Gyeongsang lot gathered here gather, you must really gather. Do you understand? (Yes.) At that time they will probably all flee, saying they cannot kiss a tiger’s maw. Then, leaving the tiger aside, since there are many wild boars in Gyeongsang, shall we do a wild-boar hunt? (Yes.) Those who wish for that, raise your hands. Since we may do so, let us try it once. Then let us sell all the guns by November, fulfill our responsibility, and, from New Year’s Day, do a Gyeongsang pig hunt for about a fortnight. So if you cannot sell the guns by November, a grave matter arises. Will you do it, or not? (We will.) Why? Have you no confidence? Then we must give up the pig hunt too; what else can we do?

If one goes into a deep mountain, the only holes there are the holes animals pass through. Holes one cannot pass through standing but goes in and out crouching. If you go about, you will know. If one goes into a very deep mountain, there is only one hole for going about. If one puts one’s head there, one may kiss a wild boar. Let us try it once! (Yes.)

If in this North Gyeongsang you come in first, I will visit North Gyeongsang first. Then let us catch a pig and hold a feast. Let us try it once. (Yes.)

How many counties does North Gyeongsang consist of? (Twenty-four counties.) Then how many townships? (238 townships.) Then it would be more than enough for the quota. Now we must bring all these North Gyeongsang people and re-educate them. Do you want that? Would it be good to be re-educated? (Yes.)

The Teacher wishes to take a good spot by the shore of Cheongpyeong Lake and make it so that ducks come and go and carp leap and play so that anyone would wish to come. In making such a place, I will set the Gyeongsang people as the vanguard rolling the boulders off the cliff. Is that all right? (Yes.) So, let us dig a cave below the mountain that can hold about ten thousand people and make it an assembly place. A place usable at any time, whether winter or summer, is what is most needed. In winter it will be warm and in summer cool. Shall we make one once? (Yes.) Is it really so? (Yes.) I will, without fail, take you there. When going, you must all bring your food and clothing. Bringing that is the principle. Do you understand? (Yes.)

There we train for about six months each. I will have you begin with practicing digging in with a chisel and pickaxe. If one cannot do the day’s quota, one will get drilling. Then there will be many who flee at night. Those who will take part there, raise your hands. Those who will flee at night, raise your hands.

Now, from now on, let us live a bit splendidly. Do you understand? (Yes.)

If the Teacher says he needs money, it is set to be sent from Japan, but the Teacher passed about three years without saying such a word to the first or second business director of Japan.

Though the Japanese family members earned Japanese money, when the Teacher uses that money, it is not Japanese money but Korean money. The Japanese family members are now earning much money. They earn over a million won a day. When you hear such talk, you are simply thrilled. This will hereafter become truly a good thing for the Japanese family members.

The Teacher intends to have you set up a tradition. It is not to make you suffer hardship but to have you set up a tradition.

Because It Is an Object into Which the Teacher Poured His Heart and Sincerity

The Japanese people are truly serviceable. Command once, and they absolutely obey. They do far better than Koreans. So you must join hand in hand and run hard. How much do North and South Gyeongsang together come to? (About ten million.) Truly many. Now we must make the headquarters in Daegu, if not Busan. Do you agree? (Yes.) Is it all right even if I make life hard for you? (Yes.) The Teacher had Kuboki sell guns in Japan. Can Korea sell guns to Japan? For a Korean product to enter Japan is not even dreamable. But since the Teacher commanded it, they could not but do it. So last year I sent 2,500 guns to Japan. Then must they sell them, or not? (They must sell them.)

What is splendid about the Japanese family members is that many hold the gun and weep. They think that this gun, into which the Teacher devoted sincerity for over ten years, is a family heirloom without equal in their clan.

Soon a time comes when, even if one wishes to buy this gun, one cannot. Do you understand what I mean? When you do business directly, have you thought that if you buy this gun, it will remain as an heirloom for generations of descendants? A house or other property can be obtained at any time, but this alone comes to a time when one cannot buy it even with money. Would it be so, or not? (It would.)

Hereafter, a time comes when, at a head-family clan meeting, a quarrel arises over who will inherit this heirloom. Thinking that this gun thus remains as a historical relic, it is a great thing. When I face you, who do not know such things, the Teacher feels considerably disappointed.

This gun the Teacher pioneered, standing at the head for the sake of God’s Will. When you cannot even think of leaving such an object, into which the Teacher poured his heart and devoted sincerity, as your clan's heirloom, what gun can you sell? You are selling guns not for the sake of the Will but for your own sake. So you are not qualified to sell guns.

If the Teacher goes to Japan, America, and Germany and tells them to buy up guns, they will, without fail, do so. So the Korean family members must not fall behind them. Do you understand what I mean? This time you must all buy one gun each, even on installment. This is not for the sake of selling guns. Men and women, all must buy. Thereby, hereafter, when a daughter marries, it is good to leave it as an heirloom that can be handed to the son-in-law as a family relic.

The Reason the Air Rifle Was Made

Seeing Korea’s situation, besieged by the enemy on three sides, hereafter one must rightly set up an ideological viewpoint and protect the nation and people.

Accordingly, when one takes responsibility for the thought of national defense, defends Asia, and goes to the spirit world, one must hold a ceremony of solemnly handing this gun over to the descendants. One must be able to pass such thoughts on to sons and daughters or sons-in-law.

Once the 1970s come, guns will not be made. They will not be made in Korea at all. Now then, those among you who will buy a gun, raise your hands. This—one must not fail to buy it. Kwak Chung-hwan! (Yes.) Have all who raised their hands contract for one year or a year and a half. Hereafter, man or woman, a person who does not have this gun cannot be a Unification Church member. All must have this and, before the whole citizenry, undergo intensive training for national defense.

The Teacher holds the sense of mission that, even if the Unification Church sheds blood, he must resolve the great problems of Korea and the world within his generation. That is why the gun was made.

Seen from the present national situation, the Teacher thinks a time will surely come when the defense industry is emphasized. Centering on ten years, I have come to gaze at such a time. And sure enough, the time has now come. Therefore, we have come to be able to move before these people.

Because he equipped an unerring thought and specific conditions, the Teacher developed it while suffering all manner of slander and scheming. In that sense, the Republic of Korea ought to give the Teacher a citation of merit.

This time, since the nation says it will strengthen military power, everyone here and there is making a fuss to build factories. However much a Korean conglomerate invests billions to build a gun factory, Korea’s market is limited. It is limited to the 600,000 army and the navy and the air force. But hereafter, once five or six or seven or eight years pass, a time will come when we can pioneer the seven nations of Southeast Asia. No one can do such work, but I can.

We will train the young men of our Unification Church and widen our foundation. The wider that foundation grows, the more we come to hold the might to educate anti-communist personnel centering on the nation, anywhere. Therefore, we can, crossing beyond the age, lay a foundation and equip a market. But private conglomerates, however greedily they invest, cannot achieve it. When they realize that even investing billions cannot be done long-term, they all pack up their bundles and fall away. In the end, at present, there are only foreign-made goods.

We are now delivering to the Blue House an air rifle identical to the M1 rifle. Once this election ends, we will receive payment. Now, hereafter we must make a training type for middle and high schools and a new model. Before the Teacher departed for America early this year, I directed that this be resolved by some means by the end of May.

So this year the Teacher pushed things a bit hard. You were to send up the gun payments by April and May, and you know the fact that the Teacher, going into debt, prepared it in your stead and had it sent up.

Then, since the Teacher is not a fool, why did he do such a thing?

Seen in the present situation of the Republic of Korea, Kim Il-sung regards this year as most important. Around June, because the foliage grows thick, it is easy for armed communist infiltrators to penetrate.

If three platoons of armed infiltrators penetrate various areas of Seoul—Seodaemun, Dongdaemun, Namdaemun, and so on—and wage street fighting, even if they are all annihilated, it will deal an immense blow to our nation’s economy. Would businessmen stay and do business, or shoulder their bundles and flee? If such a thing happened once a month, people doing important work or wealthy people would abandon everything and flee.

Do you know how much land prices fell even at the time of the Kim Shin-jo incident? They fell by half. So if such an incident continued for even a few months, all businessmen would shoulder their bundles and flee.

This year is a year in which the final victory or defeat must be decided through what has been devoted with sincerity over ten years. You must know that if this time is missed, the tower built with ten years’ effort collapses. That is why I commanded, by whatever means, that this year’s planned quota be attained by before May.

The Teacher, as a person who has taken responsibility for this age, is in a position where he cannot but make ready and cannot but prepare. Because there is a responsibility that must be done, he took such an adventure. I diagnosed that this year, if all personnel unite as one and move, there is a possibility of accomplishing what the government requests.

Originally, money was to be prepared by the end of June. But, having prepared money by July, I pushed the contract with the government. If one concludes a contract to supply 100,000 or 600,000 shooting guns, one must produce them by some means.

If that happens, since everything must be made anew, it takes a period of about eight months. Before eight months, the goods cannot all be made. Because I know such difficulties, I concluded the contract with the government while producing the guns to be sold this year.

If one does it as a side matter, both perish. Among the businessmen now, how many are jealous of us and sick with envy? They only wait for a chance to bite.

Therefore, setting aside all other work and working through the night, one must set up conditions of which neither the government nor anyone can speak. That is why I made such preparations. Therefore, one must produce more than last year.

Now Is an Emergency in Which the Nation Must Be Saved

When the Teacher estimates all the government’s circumstances, the government has no dollars in current reserve. That is, because there is no government funding, the government cannot back the operation of the defense industry hereafter.

Therefore, one must resolve it by one’s own strength. But to resolve it by one’s own strength, one must have over 300 million won in cash. Without fail, by the end of this year, one must have 300 million won in cash.

With 300 million won in cash, if one purchases the raw materials needed to produce 100,000 or 200,000 guns, everyone is caught here. If one prepares steel and all materials, sets up a plan, and produces goods, then even if one fails to make the goods in time, the government has nothing to say. This is a once-only opportunity. To not miss this opportunity, one must take an adventure by every means.

From this September, a footing was prepared to push through the funding problem. The Teacher went abroad and directed everything under such resolve. So we completed the contract by the end of July. The quantity made last year through untold hardship was made this year by the end of April, so one has worked tremendously hard.

What I am about to say is a company secret, but the Teacher will speak, trusting you. The money we must now collect is 220 million won. It is too infuriating and mortifying a matter. At present, our company is using private loans at five percent interest. Then, calculating 220 million won at five percent interest, it is 11 million won each month. Thus, we are losing 11 million won of profit each month. If we collected right now, 11 million won would remain to us each month. To save the Republic of Korea, we are doing even work you do not know of.

Meanwhile, we have taken on 80 million won of debt. The interest on that is 4 million won a month. Thus, we are running a deficit of as much as 15 million won each month. If we had collected, that would all have become our property. But because we could not fulfill that responsibility, we are paying out as much as 15 million won each month.

Then how much is it in a year? It is 180 million won. We are throwing 180 million won into the air each year. That money is money we could use plentifully with plenty to spare. Thinking of this, we must collect even a single jeon quickly. Even standing at the crossroads of life and death and rendering a final verdict, one must collect it. That we have until now been unable to collect money gathered by shedding blood and sweat is a disgrace of the Unification Church. Hereafter, by whatever means, all must be collected.

This year, all must buy one gun each. And one must come collecting each month. To do so, there will be difficulties. But one must undergo difficulty once. Discuss well among yourselves the method by which one can collect. Hereafter I intend to make all Unification Church members collection committee members. So one must take responsibility for ten guns each month, if ten, or twenty, if twenty.

Now is an emergency in which the nation must be saved. In this time when the whole citizenry must be mobilized and the whole spirit world must be mobilized, one must not rest at the rear. We must collect 220 million won.

And at present there are about 50,000 guns in stock remaining. If one collects this on installment at 15,000 won each, it comes to 750 million won. Is that so? (Yes.) Then it all comes to 970 million won. Adding what is to be sent to Japan, resources amounting to 1.2 billion won are made. Do you understand? If it becomes so, 1.2 billion won is prepared.

It has now been a full three years and four months since we built the factory at Sutaek-ri. At the very first, there were only a few truckloads, but now it is more than several hundred truckloads. Until now we have lived a wretched life. But this time we have made at Sutaek-ri the finest facility in Korea. Hereafter we must live better than anyone.

The Countless Hardships Until This Standard Was Established

The Teacher invested 18 million won even this year. Because I knew there would be difficulty when this became dualized hereafter, I have until now devised a supply route by which this can be supplied. Last year too, I invested 8 million won. Thus, I have carried out an emergency strategy.

But you probably thought everything happened of itself. You do not know how many countless hardships there were in breaking through this complicated environment in Seoul until now. Whenever a difficult problem arose, I did all manner of adventures to connect my conviction to a position united with God.

Now, if only the goods made are sold, over 300 million won in cash will come out. Therefore, if we only carry out well the nationwide rally for this year’s sales, no great conglomerate of our nation is the issue.

The market in Korea will, at some stage, be cut off. This year may be the last, or, if things go well, it may carry over into the 1970s.

Since June 1967, we have been receiving tax exemption on commodity tax. From June 1967 until now, a full two years and four months, we have received the tax-exemption benefit. Meanwhile, striving by every means, we have come up until now with a three-year plan. Accordingly, everything must be settled within three years. On the day one comes to pay commodity tax, one cannot make even one gun. Because the commodity tax on luxury goods is seventy-five percent, we would have no choice but to close the factory doors.

Such a pressing circumstance will come upon us in the not-distant future. Because the Teacher knew that, I set up another plan. If guns cannot be made and Tongil Industries perishes, our church’s footing is lost and our social standing collapses too.

Therefore, to prepare for such a time, I have been manufacturing machines for four years. At first, I took the adventure in a state of knowing nothing about machines. But what was planned for three years, we came to make two machines in one year and eight months. And now, three full years on, over ninety percent of the machines in our factory are made by our hands. The machines costing about 15 million won that we used to import from Japan, we can now make with ease. In performance too, they are absolutely not inferior.

So hereafter, even if the factory does not make guns, the factory can keep running without rest, and the people in the factory can make a living. You must know that until this standard was set up, behind the scenes, the Teacher worried, took adventures, and decided.

If we sell this year and next year, the domestic market will reach a saturated state. What our family members have devoted with blood and sweat until now was based not on the domestic market but on the world market. Therefore, the issue is how, turning aside the domestic market, to handle foreign consumption. So the Teacher, even going abroad, after speaking the Message through the night, advertises guns, forgetting face and standing. Thus he is placed in such a wretched fate.

This is not work the Teacher should do. But because no one among the sons and daughters of unification can do it, and because I cannot escape the responsibility for the world, I do it directly. Because I know I must do it when I see the pitiful, ill-clad brothers, this time, going to Japan to persuade people who do not know, I spoke about guns. And going to America too, I spoke about guns. At that time some family members said, “Can the Teacher say such things?” But the Teacher, forgetting entirely the wretched position of having to explain that, has persevered until now.

This year I sent 2,500 guns to Japan. To the personnel spread across all Japan, I commanded, “If one does as the Teacher says, it works. It is certain. Have confidence. There is no problem with sales. If one has confidence, one succeeds.” If only 15,000 go out this year, next year 30,000 to even 50,000 more can go out.

The Plan for Air-Rifle Sales in Japan and America

If Japan takes 50,000 guns, what happens?

At even 30,000 yen each in Japanese money, 1.5 billion yen comes into Korea. If one does bank transactions with 1.5 billion yen in cash, one can be recognized by the bank as a company that can always draw about that much funding. When one has sold 50,000 guns and earned 1.5 billion yen, it is a certain fact that one can earn 1.5 billion yen the next year too.

Seen about Japan’s economic situation, because one can sell more than 50,000 guns, if one sells 100,000 guns at wholesale price alone, one must send nearly 800 million to Korea. If the Japan Association has no such money, it can borrow it all at once from the bank and send it.

If one can only sell 1.5 billion yen's worth in Japan, one can draw from the bank 3 billion yen, double the 1.5 billion. When the Japan Unification Church can handle about 3 billion yen, if one orders some product made at a leading large company in Japan, they make whatever it is. At that time, one can conclude even a long-term contract of three years or more.

At present, because Korea is in a position of having to build countless factories in each field for industrial development, if it only becomes so, Tongil Industries can partner with a large Japanese enterprise, build a factory in Korea equipped with machinery, and sell the produced goods in Japan.

If one gives them on a one-year installment, everyone will buy. If one receives cash over two years and six months and deposits it in the bank, one can repay all the Japanese money with the interest alone. Do you understand? A path by which one can earn boundless money even sitting still is bright. Therefore, one must quickly make a foundation by which one can move 2 billion won in cash. If you only follow the Teacher’s command, you can make such a foundation in four years.

If 100,000 guns go out to Japan, it is 3 billion yen. Accordingly, one can move a large sum of nearly 6 billion yen. The hunting rifles and air rifles in Korea now come to nearly 18,000 to 20,000. So the result comes out that we have, until now, sold a vast quantity. Comparing the economic situations of Korea and Japan, Japan has a market tens of times larger than Korea. Yet Korea sold more than five times as much as Japan. Seen that way, when gun consumption in Japan at present is over 1.5 million, one must sell at least five times that, 7.5 million.

Then over how many years must one create a boom? Seven years. Then one must sell an additional million guns a year. Do you understand? Even if one cannot sell all of that, one can certainly sell an additional quarter of a million, 250,000. If it proceeds well this way, the money in Japan comes flying to Korea. Do you have confidence, Oyama-san?

This year the Teacher sent 500 guns to America. But the American missionaries Choi Sang-ik and Kim Young-woon opposed it, saying, “Teacher, please do not send them!” so I said, “What do you mean, please? If you will not do it, the Teacher will go himself and do it. So do as I tell you.”

If only 15,000 guns go to Japan within this year, the American family members go, “Oh dear.” And if it is said that 50,000, or 100,000 were sold in Japan, America cannot but sell more than that.

The Teacher toured all of America and investigated. America is a golden market and virgin land. Because there are boundless resources there, one can sell transcending numbers. One or two in ten houses is not the issue. At present, fifty percent of the whole citizenry own guns. And in America, anyone can easily buy a gun. It is not that one must obtain a difficult license as in Japan.

If one goes to a sporting-goods store, one can buy a gun. Even an elementary-school pupil, if he gives cash and only writes his name, can buy a gun.

A Miracle of God Appearing in the Twentieth Century

Therefore, we can sell our air rifles boundlessly. If one forms an organization and pioneers the market nationwide, one absolutely does not perish. One can sell hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of goods. Do you understand? If that happens, the European market is automatically formed.

This is a miracle of God appearing in the twentieth century. It is a precious miracle, like God sending down manna in the desert. God’s boundless blessing is before us; can we not gather it in? All of you, must we gather it in, or not? (We must gather it in.)

This is not a lie. Though, judging from Korea’s present situation, it was said one can sell no more guns; the Teacher newly built a second factory this year on nearly 500 pyeong of land. So I intend to double the production quantity hereafter. I plan to make at least a million, up to 1.5 million, a year. And after that, I will build more factories. By the latter half of 1971, I will build a world-scale factory.

All of you, what gun is our gun? (It is an air rifle.) All the public foundation of today’s Unification Church came out of here, and the factory came out of here. Everything came out of the air rifle the Teacher conceived, and the factory came out of here. Everything came out of the air rifle the Teacher conceives.

In 1960, in setting forth on the First Seven-Year Course, when I sent you out to the provinces to witness, do you think the Teacher did not foresee that a lot of arch-beggars would arise? The Teacher is not a man who would send you out to a place of hardship and end it at that. I certainly knew that if I only dragged it on for seven years, exhausted people, pitiful beggar-like people, would appear. But while you underwent hardship, on one side the Teacher was preparing to back it up. So I thought about what special product to make.

An ordinary enterprise already equipped with a foundation has technicians and funds and also has managerial experience, so it developed while competing with difficulty. For us, in a situation with no funds, no technicians, and no managerial experience, to break into one field of Korean industry could not but be a great adventure.

Therefore, what I put my hand to to make a patented product unfindable anywhere in the world is the shot air rifle. I knew it spiritually, but it is truly an ingenious idea.

A hunting rifle is a luxurious gun, to the degree that it is rumored that whoever owns one surely goes to ruin. Owning that gun costs over 100,000 won a year in expenses. Once one fires it, one learns it costs a lot of money. But what is equipped with such good conditions that it can be called a second hunting rifle is the air rifle.

If one advertises it to hunters as a second hunting rifle, it is a hundred percent effective. Using this, even if one cannot hit a flying pheasant or wild goose, one certainly hits one that is sitting. Accordingly, one can taste the flavor of hunting fully.

The old air rifle was made a long time ago, but there has been no further development, and there is not much profit even from selling it. But the shot air rifle has prospects for the future. So we make the shot air rifle. People who have bought and used the shot air rifle say that these days the shot air rifle is the best. So one can sell this.

This is something we can do because we have an organization; without an organization, it cannot be done. Look at Japan; they are working even harder than you. So without an organizational foundation, one cannot do business.

Hereafter we must go out to the world. By the end of this year, or at the latest by next April, our mission departments will be established in 40 nations. You do not know it well, but at present missionaries are set to go to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Greece, and such places.

If, on the Teacher’s world tour, one only informs me where I designated holy ground, they go right out. Mission departments are established in various African nations too. Hereafter, within three or at the latest four years, our mission departments will be set up in 360 places. We will send missionaries even to nameless nations, even to nations not admitted to the UN.

Then how will one send them out?

Money will not do. One goes out with our guns. If one only sends 100 guns a year to one place, 40 places are 4,000 guns, are they not? 4,000 guns our factory can amply make in half a month. And at 400 each, it is 16,000. This one can be made plentifully in about three months. The expense of making this is not much.

If one only sends 100 each for three years, one completely takes hold of the foundation. Then hereafter, in exporting abroad, how much will one receive per gun? One must receive from 57 to 63 dollars. One will absolutely not sell cheap. I inquired about everything at the National Tax Service.

Accordingly, sending 100 each is 6,000 dollars. With 6,000 dollars, several people can amply live and devote themselves to witnessing activity. So, holding one’s nerve and speaking boldly, one has money left over even after doing mission work. Therefore, if one only sends 300 each to one nation, our mission department can, without fail, develop.

Furthermore, looking at our sales route until now, when one gun went out, more than three came in. So if 300 go out, more than a thousand are automatically sold. A thousand guns is 60,000 dollars. Because this becomes business capital, one can develop all the more. (The recording was briefly interrupted.)

The Normal Path the Unification Church Must Go

What has the Unification Church made central until now?

Centering on the sovereignty of goodness (善), it has done the work of making people. That God has worked His providence centering on the Way (道) is also to make people. So He has until now given up the notion of material things. Do you understand? (Yes.)

But in our Unification Church, from 1967 we began the restoration of all things. What is the restoration of all things? It is economic restoration. In 1967 we could at last raise the slogan “the completion of the foundation of economic restoration.” Before that, the Teacher told you not to think about money. But the Teacher, while having you undergo hardship, was going a step ahead behind the scenes, centering on the economic problem. At that time, knowing that once about seven years passed, one would come to a considerably difficult situation, the Teacher, a step ahead, could not help but worry over the economic problem. So what was made was the gun factory.

Looking at our church’s system, who managed the economy until now? The district leader managed the church and also managed the economy. It would have been good if, managing this way, both church and economy did well, but both became difficult. Therefore, this must quickly be dualized. So from 1967, the Teacher directed that it be dualized. Even from the principled standpoint, it must be dualized. It truly must be dualized. Because, despite the direction to dualize it, it was not dualized, this June the Teacher carried it out directly. When it is dualized, because the Teacher bears responsibility, minimum living expenses are provided for six months. Do you understand? After six months, living expenses are not provided. To explain why only six months are provided would grow long, so I will omit it here.

To pursue public value is the Teacher’s responsibility and the work he must do. Rather than an individual becoming happy, one must take the path by which the church can be happy, and rather than the church being happy, one must seek the path by which hereafter the nation can be happy. Therefore, one must undergo hardship and save the Republic of Korea. And one must make the Republic of Korea undergo hardship and make the world live well. This is pursuing public value. Such work the Teacher must do. And that is the normal path the Unification Church must go today.

The Providential Reason a Church Must Be Built

The Teacher gave the district and regional leaders all manner of commands to prepare regional headquarters. I had them try this way and that, but far from preparing regional headquarters, they were all sunk in self-centered, easygoing thoughts. Then one perishes.

Over the past six months, we paid out over 3 million won each month as living expenses. Even so, if one asks whether our Unification Church has developed much more than in the 1960s, it has not. Rather, there is even a sense of retreat. At that time, if the Teacher commanded the Daegu district to give an offering of a million won, you did business while begging rice and fulfilled the responsibility.

Do you remember the offering?

At that time, even in such circumstances, there was not one person who said, “Oh Teacher, I cannot live; please give me some living expenses.” Even when the Teacher said he would give living expenses, they refused, saying, “By the principle of restoration through indemnity, one must not be indebted.”

But now the age of the principle of restoration through indemnity seems all past. People just try to snatch away whatever the moment they see the Teacher. They try to snatch away even this arm. When it becomes so, one perishes. Even among the same citizens of the Republic of Korea, a person who says he will only be indebted to the nation perishes. But a person who, even falling to the ground, serves the nation loyally prospers. Is that not so? What must one do to prosper? Is it first, or later? (It is later.) You do know. That is why one can both work and do restoration.

3 million won a month is 36 million won a year. If one provides this 36 million won and tells one to resolve all problems centering on Daegu, if Daegu, or North Gyeongsang, or North Gyeongsang, can one resolve them? One cannot. If you cannot be a regional leader, step down quickly. The Teacher will re-educate innovatively and reorganize everyone.

How has the Teacher reorganized until now?

Standing on the Principle, I made supplementations by Heaven’s decree. There is no objection to that. If one cannot do it, one must give it up. So I issued a special order to witness to 40 people in six months. People who do not follow this command must all be expelled. Now, must one leave them be or expel them? Answer. Must one leave them be or expel them? (One must expel them.) Is that not so? Even if the Teacher says he dislikes it, you must do so.

With 36 million won, one must build regional headquarters nationwide. The North Gyeongsang district must build ten regional headquarters with 3 million won. Then 300,000 won is allotted to building one regional headquarters, and with 300,000 won, in two months, one can build a good house that can hold about 200 to 300 people. You, if you shoulder your bundle and leave while living, that is that. Nothing remains. But if one builds a public church, it remains forever.

You are now wretched, living with your bundle on your shoulder and using it as a pillow. Suppose someone visits there. Since it is said the Unification Church gives victory-over-communism lectures, the county magistrate visits, and the police chief visits. They thought the Unification Church was excellent, but going along a narrow alley, they came to a small room with no gate, giving off a smell, with flies buzzing. It might be enjoyable for a husband and wife to live brow to brow, but does it do to hang a Unification Church signboard on such a place?

So you cannot keep pace with the Teacher’s way of thinking. Then why must one build regional headquarters? Because one must wash away entirely the impression until now. The Teacher cannot but take responsibility for this.

To pay out such sums, we are taking a great adventure centering on the factory. Though the money collected is small, this year we are producing more than the quantity produced last year. Because the Teacher is considerably strained over such problems, since one must have several tens of millions of won of funds even for a few months, I prepared it all when coming from America.

So, blocking situations that could lead to bankruptcy, we have come to October. Even by the end of October, we have already taken on 15 million won of debt. It averages 500,000 won a day. When urgent, there are times when as much as 2 million, 2.8 million, or even 3 million won is needed at once.

Accordingly, until October 31, there may be times when over 4 million won is needed. It is easy to say, but one must handle 500,000, a million won each day; do you think it is easy?

If a rumor spread that even 100,000 won had bounced, since we owe much debt in many places, dozens would swarm at once upon Tongil Industries. If that happened, we would perish instantly. You must know how difficult it is to handle money behind the scenes.

Money is like a rice cake; once it sticks, it sticks fast, more and more. So, having studied it, I took the adventure. Now, once November and December come, all the gun-sale payments come in. In November, about 12 million won will probably be enough. Then how much funding must one have to run our company? At least 20 million won a month is needed. What the Teacher has used for a while alone comes to nearly 10 million won. Thus, even now I am doing things you cannot imagine.

The Teacher, Who Values the Public Side

The general established churches think that all that money is invested to develop the Unification Church. But the Teacher does not wish to invest money to develop the Unification Church. A time comes when the nation faces a fate of perishing and we must resolve it.

If one fails to prepare for that time and, colliding with a great matter, simply lets it pass, one is doing preparatory work now, without others’ knowing, considering the great trend ten or twenty years hence.

People say the Unification Church’s Teacher is truly an inscrutable person. Though the Unification Church has few members, they say it does something great.

Hereafter, all work will be done centering on the regional leaders. When the Teacher, centering on headquarters, assigned regions, it was for development, but there are many who remain just as they were. Hereafter I will, without fail, purge such people. I will purge them automatically. How pressing is this time to which the Will points, and can one idle away the days on money given by headquarters?

This time I intend to build residences at the Sutaek-ri factory. I intend to make the finest residences in Korea. And I will build many more factories than now. Hereafter, a person who entered our factory and left absolutely cannot re-enter. And until 1972, we will pay lower wages than any factory.

The Teacher, in his whole life, has rested not even once a month, let alone on Sundays.

I worked over eighteen hours a day. You now work twelve hours a day. But hereafter I will keep shortening it. And I will improve treatment too. When one looks at your lodgings, one gets the feeling of whether a person can even live in such a place. Though you live in a place like a pigsty, you must know that in that pigsty the Kingdom of Heaven unfolds.

In good houses, the toilets are all flush type. Inside, steam heating is fully installed, so that however cold the winter, however the Siberian wind blows, one can sleep with one’s belly bare. No quilt is needed. But since there is such a thing as appearance, one had better sleep lightly covered with a Cashmilon quilt, right? Hereafter I will build such houses. But now equipping such houses is not the issue. When sons and daughters are dying, what use is it merely to build a proper house? Without sons and daughters, a house too is unnecessary.

Now, when God’s Will is at the crossroads of perishing or prospering, what does it matter if we, His children, are a bit ill? What does it matter if one is called a beggar? If the Will perishes, the whole perishes. Therefore, centering on the relation of before and after, one must pursue the greater value.

In such a reality, there is no help for it. One cannot but undergo hardship. People who dislike hardship and have complaints must all be purged. This time I will purge about 140. People who only make a habit of backbiting I will all send out. Hereafter I will not pay much wage to a person who hinders work.

When the Sutaek-ri factory was built, young people who entered the Unification Church thought they had struck it rich, but before long I know they all fell away. Thus we go on consuming immense human resources. This is precisely war. A person who cannot fulfill his mission as a warrior in combat is a traitor. If one falls away like the history of the Fall, one dies. Resolved on such a sacrifice, I have worked until now.

Hereafter, to enter Tongil Industries, one must pass an examination. First, one takes a Principle examination, and next, one is made to witness. Through training, I will employ people who are well educated and serviceable. A wishy-washy, dog-legged cousin is not accepted. So you must know that valuing the public side is the Teacher’s destined lot.

If Only You Had Done as the Teacher Commanded

If you look at the Teacher’s eyes, they are fierce-looking. I am not a good teacher. There is a cold-hearted side. Once one does wrong and errs, then it is fearsome. Instead, when I must endure, I endure, and when I must show tolerance, I show tolerance. Even so, when, because of one person, more than three persons come to be harmed, I cannot forgive. This is the law of Heaven.

You, though it is hard, must develop technology. What must you do here? At the same time, both you and the church cannot do well. Both cannot do well at once. Both come to nothing. For it to be so, one side must undergo hardship first. One side must undergo hardship, do well, and pass it to the other side; only then do both develop together. Both cannot develop together from the start.

In 1962, to build regional headquarters nationwide, I gathered the district leaders nationwide, taught them the method, and commanded them to do exactly so. But at that time the district leaders said it could not be done. If they had only done as the Teacher commanded then, however hard, all could have been done. When one misses the time, it is this hard. Though nearly ten years have gone by, one only idled and did not make great development. So in the end, the Teacher took responsibility. Because the family members did not fulfill their responsibility and set up merit before Heaven, the Teacher took responsibility and came forth.

When the Teacher commanded that regional headquarters be built, at least 150 regions nationwide should have been completely built. When the Teacher told you to sell houses, if only you had done so, you would have made an immense contribution to church development today. But by missing once, until now it has brought immense harm to church development. Therefore, you must never again miss the time.

Even concerning the dualization problem, one can see that a principled view is urgently needed. You must know that when one misses the time, harm comes to the whole.

The Position and Responsibility of Woman Seen Providentially

The Second Seven-Year Course is the age of children. It is the age in which the children, one stage below the Teacher, take responsibility. So the Teacher is in the inner position, and you are in the outer position.

Likewise, our church too must be divided into the church field and the economic field. That is, it becomes the age of dualization. The principle of dualization is more important than anything. Let us make clear the church person in charge and the economic person in charge. That is dualizing it. The district leader must exert strength for the district and fulfill responsibility. The person in charge of the business field must not lose either. With about one month of the sales period remaining, one must know that the person in charge of the business field absolutely must not sell less than the district leader.

Now there are many places where the church is upside down. The church is headed by a woman and the business by a man; just have them compete once. But the person in charge is the man. The district leader has much aptitude for winning. Why? Because he is equipped with the standard of the opposite-sex object partner. The Teacher thinks that, theoretically, he can sell more than the business personnel.

When women once resolve and raise a skirt-wind, the world flies. Since the world was ruined by one skirt-wind, they must raise a skirt-wind again and make it prosper at one stroke. Women, will you raise a skirt-wind or not?

When giving rice to women, if one gives half a bowl, does it feel good or bad? If one gives a man a full bowl but a woman only half a bowl, does it feel good or bad? (It feels bad.) There is not one person who would like it. By the principle of equality of the sexes, one gives rice in a bowl equally to each and treats them equally, so a man must sell one gun and a woman must sell one gun too. Why do you laugh? This is equality.

A man does it with fists and force, but a woman does it with feeling and emotion. Which is poetic? A woman is poetic. People like the poetic. In that sense, the district leader and regional leader need not worry.

Because of whom has God until now been melted down? Because of a woman. And because of whom did Jesus die? He died because of a woman. Why? Because Jesus came seeking a bride but could not find her, he died. In the end, the perpetrator is a woman. And because of whom has the Teacher until now been reviled? (Because of a woman.)

Accordingly, who made all the pain, contempt, and sorrow of the age?

Women made them. If it is so, does a woman’s standing stand, or not? It does not stand. To make that standing stand, one must be able to blow away all the historical han at one stroke. The Teacher intends to set you in such a place.

Even in witnessing, women stepped forth first. So in business too, let the women step forth. If a man does peddling, it is unsightly and unpleasant. It is shabby. But if a woman, primly, carries the bundle and goes in, they buy well. Thus, a being called woman remains to be used at one time.

Then when is that time?

It is the time of the Unification Church’s Teacher Moon. Until now, countless men perished because of women, but in this age a man who gets ahead because of women must appear. If the women fail to make the Teacher get ahead, one perishes. As for money too, after using up all the money the women earned, if there is none, one must use the money the men earned. Therefore, before you starve, the Teacher must not starve. Before you dress, you must first arrange the Teacher’s dress and cap. Is that so, or not? (It is so.)

But, since you so insisted I come to Daegu, having come, it seems the hospitality is not good either. You must give hospitality, right? Is that not so? Then did you prepare and come? If you did not prepare and come, you are all improper. If one thinks in advance about what the Teacher might like to eat and brings even a little, how good it would be. In doing so, one becomes one.

Then, since the women have made the Teacher be so reviled, now they must show a bit of sympathy, must they not? Is that not so? So that I set the women forth to undergo hardship and get ahead is done not in a bad sense but with such a thought in a good sense. Does it feel bad or good? (It feels good.) Then it is settled.

If one holds such a mind, there is nothing in the world one cannot do. Until now you have been treated with contempt by men, so even if the Teacher says he will make you undergo hardship and get ahead, does it not feel bad? (No.)

The Path Men Must Go

Now, if I bring you anything and tell you to do it, you must do it. The district leaders are the same. The women of the Daegu region too must all buy one gun each this year. Why? Our enemy is not only Kim Il-sung in the North. Hereafter we must fight Communist China. Therefore, women too must undergo military training. Our final fight is grappling with Communist China and the Soviet Union, and one must prepare for this. Here the future fate of Korea is decided.

What the Teacher thinks about is how to govern Communist China, the worldwide communist nation, and how to unite it completely in ideology to make an Asian federation and rule the world.

In fighting, men alone will not do. Only when one makes a women’s corps that can regard it as glory to stand at the very front and fight bravely and die in action does God take direct command at the front.

In Seoul, the Teacher saw a woman in a skirt, wearing a hat, firing an air rifle. She fired the gun quite discourteously. She committed many breaches of manners. But when I looked at the gun, it was very welcome. It was one of our guns. A person is truly strange. A woman holding a gun and acting like a man’s cousin was unpleasant to see, but seeing that gun, I cannot tell you how welcome it was. That woman had invaded the men’s world, but by holding a gun we made, she could be forgiven.

Women must unite as one mind. Further, they must unite as one mind with singleness of heart. With a single-hearted mind, they must gather into one. Uniting the mind in oneness, making a full-scale charge, let us win a victory greater than the men’s. To that end, women are needed in the Unification Church today. Will you do so? (Yes.)

Then what will the grandmothers do?

The Teacher will educate the grandmothers. I will invite about fifty grandmothers to Seoul, treat them well with meat soup and rice, educate them, and have them raise a skirt-wind. If only that happens, the Republic of Korea overflows with hope. Does it do for the mind to grow old just because the face has grown old? One must not hold such a mind.

The Teacher does not say this now to sell guns. Suffering all manner of slander and scheming until now, I have done such work for the sake of the Republic of Korea. And the Teacher has already prepared a foundation by which he can make his name known to the world as a religious leader.

Hereafter, the religion of the latter half of the twentieth century must differ from the religion of the past. What comes by force must be confronted with force. So the Teacher made Jeongdo-sul (정도술). Hereafter, I will build a hall and train all the young people. Why? Because hereafter we must fight a great fight. Women too must undergo training. Doing so, the Unification Church members must be able to block the invasion of the North. Would God like a woman finer than the men of the satanic world, or a woman inferior to the men of the satanic world?

The Teacher intends to withdraw his hand from the factory from 1970. Now, because a time has come when, even without the Teacher’s direct hand, one can set up a budget dividing the year into four quarters, the Teacher has, for his part, fulfilled a stage of responsibility. Until now, in making guns, the Teacher led from the leading position. Now is the time when you must take responsibility and do it. The Teacher’s age is passing.

Take an Interest in the Air Rifle

Therefore, one thing the Teacher wishes to say is that, since the Teacher has done business centering on guns on this earth, hereafter the Unification believers must all take an interest in guns. Why? Because the satanic world is centered on guns—though it is not that we conquer the world with guns—one must make a fence of force with guns. Hereafter, the people of later generations will think about why the Teacher took an interest in guns. Because it is absolutely necessary in making a fence to defend against the attack of the satanic world, the Teacher takes an interest in guns. Do you understand? (Yes.)

Once the 1970s come, because the time when the Teacher directly devoted sincerity and led passes, the guns made before that become treasures in history hereafter. Hereafter, a time comes when a 15,000-won thing cannot be bought even for 1.5 million won, 15 million won, 150 million won. A time comes when, in each household, a quarrel arises over who will keep this one gun. Do you understand? (Yes.)

Accordingly, the Teacher, knowing that, is in a position of having to hand you a relic that can be left as a precious thing. So this year all Unification Church family members must buy one gun each. Shall I just give it? Shall I just give it to those who like to receive? (We will buy it.)

Hereafter, among you, a person who has a daughter, when that daughter marries, if she takes this gun, a time comes when it compares with bequeathing ten million geum to the son-in-law as a gift. Once a few years pass and the day comes when the Teacher makes a worldwide announcement, the value rises.

So it is enjoined to return what was allotted or obtained free and buy it. Women too must buy. Since the Teacher tells you this having planned it in detail, one must not fail to have this gun. But because you have no money, it is lent on a year-and-a-half installment. So one must gather so much each month and pay it by some means.

If one has bought a gun, the next one must fire it. Only then does one pay one’s respects to that gun. If one buys a gun and just sets it down and only looks at it, the gun weeps.

If a bride has come, she must be enabled to bear a child to have the worth of having married; would it be good for the groom not to take her hand even once and just leave her? The groom must, by some means, make the bride bear a child.

Likewise, one must not just enshrine the gun and only gaze at it. One must use it more than anyone and always handle it, night and day. If a woman embraces the gun to her bosom and cherishes it, the gun too will be pleased. Because a gun is masculine.

Because men handle guns carelessly, they break down easily, but women, however carelessly they try to handle them, cannot. Therefore, in cherishing it, a woman is at first at an advantage. Since a gun is masculine, how pleased it would be if women welcomed it! So do not shove it into a corner; place it in the nearest spot attainable to your hand. When studying, place it a little behind the pencil case, and each time you pick up a pencil, handle it once.

At some time, the Teacher will assemble all the women family members nationwide and train them in loading real bullets and hitting targets. Now you do not understand, but such a time will come. Therefore, in preparation for that time, all must learn how to fire a gun.

Furthermore, do women like riding horses?

When one watches a movie, one sees a woman riding a galloping horse; does it feel good, or bad? Since one is at it, one must be able to gallop pleasantly, tasting the flavor of a man too, as if commanding all under Heaven.

Hereafter, what will be the most popular sport?

Soccer will pass. It is not that soccer disappears, but shooting becomes the most popular sport event. The more civilization develops, the more people need something with stimulating sensation. Even in reciting poetry, one likes the kind that, like “O bright and brilliant morning,” uses many adjectives and pricks the very root of the senses.

Then what is the most stimulating sport?

When one watches soccer, they only run about with a ball and give no great stimulation. But think how loud the sound is when you go into a Gangwon Province mountain valley and fire a gun. Rumble, bang-bang—when one fires in a valley, all the animals in the nearby mountains focus their nerves, and even people all at once take interest. There is nothing more stimulating than this. And not only that; when one fires bang at a running wild boar, it spreads its legs, spraying blood, and topples over. This is very stimulating.

That is why men like hunting. If one does much such work, they say it is more enjoyable than eating. Therefore, the sport that will remain hereafter is a stimulating sport. Even seen in worldwide statistics, one can know that interest in shooting is gradually ripening. So hereafter national defense is no worry.

Then will women compete in such stimulating sports, or not? (They will.) When they compete, the Teacher will be the coach and the director. If that happens, our Unification Church young ladies can compete in the Olympics as shooting representatives.

If one has ability, can one not send her just because she is a woman?

In that sense, all buy one gun each. Do you understand? Buy if you wish to buy, and do not if you do not wish to. It is not that I do so to sell guns. Instead, do not regret it in later days.

A Nation Must Form a Four Position Foundation Centered on National Sovereignty

The talk has flowed off to the side a great deal. Now let us return to the main point. When the Teacher tried to dualize the church, the district leaders gathered and all opposed. Was that opposition well done, or ill done? (Ill done.)

Looking at the organization of the Republic of Korea, it is divided into the three branches of legislative, judicial, and executive. For the Republic of Korea to develop hereafter, each branch must be organized down to the localities and become one with the central organization. Then what is the lowest organ of the executive branch? It is the township. Hereafter, it must go down to the village.

Next, the lowest organ of the judicial branch is the police substation. But the legislative branch has no lower organization. The party personnel are all gathered at the center and have no organization down to the localities. Then it cannot develop. Down to the township, if a township, one must make an organization so that the three branches form a trinity.

It is the same as the Four Position Foundation in the Principle. Only when one forms a Four Position Foundation centered on national sovereignty does the nation not perish. That is precisely the Principle.

What is the purpose of creation?

It is the completion of the Four Position Foundation centered on parents.

Therefore, the Kingdom of Heaven too must form the completed form of the Four Position Foundation.

Just as, centering on one point, one does give-and-take action and exists for a common purpose, our society too must become so. Down to the localities, the structure of legislative, judicial, and executive branches must be equipped. It must be able to become completely one body. It must become an environment in which it has a relationship of mutual giving and receiving that can reach even into daily life; only then can it become the Kingdom of Heaven hereafter. That is, the Kingdom of Heaven must be made in a principled way.

To Realize the Kingdom of Heaven

Then what must our church do?

It must make people. Centering on the sovereignty of goodness, one must make God’s sons and daughters. It is said that if God’s sons and daughters completely become so, material things naturally arise, is it not? Until now everything was entrusted to the members, but through poor management neither the church nor the company developed.

So now it must be dualized. Seen from this position, within today’s Unification Church itself, the organization must be completed. Therefore, in making people, the representative organ is the church, and the organization for material things is the business department.

Then which must have dominion over which?

People must have dominion over material things. Therefore, the persons in charge of the church must manage the business. They must receive reports on the business situation. The business department absolutely cannot do it independently. The business-office managers must clearly know this. The business-office managers must, standing on the Principle, report and receive directions. Without fail, whether a good matter or a bad matter, they must report. Thereby, from a united position, one must go forward standing on the principled standard.

Disliking to report cannot conform to principle, and one must not dislike receiving reports either. This is the same as the relationship of mind and body. It is also the same as inner and outer, and the relationship of subject and object. Therefore, unless this becomes one, the Kingdom of Heaven cannot be realized. That is, a nation cannot exist apart from a material foundation. Therefore, this relationship of subject and object must begin from the family.

So because the Kingdom of Heaven must, centering on environmental ties, make a standard by which one can become completely one body, material things and people must, without fail, become one. Here there must be no corruption. In reporting, one must not report falsely.

Just as one cannot live without conscience, a manager, who is in the position of the body, must not manage as he pleases without the person in charge knowing. He must, without fail, report. Therefore, the business-office managers must receive the management of the church persons in charge. Do you understand? This is a just management system from the principled standpoint. Until now there was no such system.

Let the Three Position Foundation Become One Centered on the Central Family

Just as a nation has sovereignty, the Unification Church comes forth centering on the sovereignty of goodness. What can act on behalf of sovereignty from a position like the judicial branch is the sovereignty of goodness.

Centering on the Teacher, in the direct line of descent, there must, without fail, be an organizational form like the party of a nation. That does not mean making a Unification Party; the Unification household (통일가, 統一家) must do this work. The Blessed Families must do this work. Therefore, hereafter the work corresponding to the legislative branch too must be done by the Blessed Families.

Originally, this family must be formed by people who lived conscientiously in material life in the world. Next, they must be an example in church life. People who are an example inside and out must form it.

Then, of the couple, what must the man do?

The man must have a relationship with the church. And the woman must have a relationship with material things. This is so environmentally, but familially, how does it become? Father, mother, and children—these three must become one. Here the family Kingdom of Heaven unfolds. Therefore, to realize the Kingdom of Heaven centered on people, one must form the Four Position Foundation.

To equip the Four Position Foundation, because one must equip a form centered on a horizontal foundation, in the social environment, people, church, material things, and family must become one.

So the Three Position Foundation was organized. Originally, the mission of the Three Position Foundation was to be an example in the family, to be a model for the church, and to take responsibility for the economy too. This Three Position Foundation must become completely one. On the day this cracks, the ideal of the Kingdom of Heaven hereafter is broken. Your families too have a Three Position Foundation organization, do you not?

Then how must this Three Position Foundation do hereafter?

Centering on the Three Position Foundation, one must choose a family that can be representative among those families. That family, as an absolute heavenly family, is the family God envisioned and a family representing the Teacher’s family, so one must set up a tradition of being able to absolutely obey that family’s command.

And the family that has formed the Three Position Foundation must, in leading the church, be more loyal than any church leader. And in managing material things too, it must be more frugal than anyone. Therefore, hereafter, equipping a systematized, organized social system and economic system is the society our ideal points toward.

Then, splitting into two what had been joined—is this development, or regression? (It is development.) When subject and object give and receive completely, force arises. And when force arises, multiplication unfolds. That is, here, when subject and object give and receive, goodness (善) is decided. Because goodness is decided, the multiplication of goodness unfolds.

Seen centering on the ordinances of Heaven and earth, one must clearly know how important a responsibility our Blessed Families bear. The Blessed Families are the direct line of descent. As long as the Blessed Families do not become corrupt, our world, by such a principle, comes to have an organization based on the Principle. Even without sovereignty, our nation is formed anywhere in the world. Centering on the Blessed Families in America, I will hereafter systematize this. This is the organization of the Principle.

Hereafter you must not, because the Teacher is at the central headquarters, depend on headquarters, but, centering on that locality, must divide like a cell dividing. When something arises, one must receive the direction of the central family. Because that family has been granted the authority to act on behalf of the Teacher.

Therefore, from where is the Kingdom of Heaven realized?

It is realized from our families. Then what -ism are we? We are family-ism. The Cosmos-ism (天宙主義) we uphold is, in the characters, heaven (天) and house (宙)—that is, heavenly-house-ism. Only becoming so does the meaning of Cosmos become clear.

So the sixty-six books of the Bible are all messages wishing for an ideal family. And what do all people wish for? An ideal family. What a person born a man wishes for most is to meet an ideal wife. Is that so, or not? A man who says it is not so is not even a person. And what a person born a woman wishes for most is to meet an ideal husband.

However much a woman becomes a scholar and speaks big before the world, her wish is to meet an ideal man. It is to meet a lovable, ideal man and bear blessed sons and daughters. This is the root of happiness. Because the Unification Church doctrine is driven into such a family, no one can pull it out.

The Unification Church’s ideal is not elsewhere. The departure too is the family, and the conclusion too is the family. Because no one has yet resolved this problem, one has wished for it. And because happiness is there, systematizing this and making it cosmic and revealing its infinite value, the Unification -ism was acknowledged. Therefore, when there is no one who dislikes this -ism, and all bow their heads and like it, the world is automatically unified.

You will think about where the ideal man grows. Though there are countless men under Heaven, you will think about where the ideal man I can love is. You must cultivate well one person alone. Centering on such a principle, one must develop.

Therefore, centering on the Three Position Foundation, there must be a person who can be an example in the church and a person who can be an example on the economic stage. One must absolutely not be ruled by money. A people and nation ruled by money perishes. And if one deceives the nation in order to fill one’s own family’s and individual’s greed, that family perishes. Do you understand?

But until now, having entrusted everything to the district and regional leaders, they used money without the headquarters’ consent. Did they, or not? Then one perishes. To block that perishing, one unavoidably must dualize. Because both cannot be done, one must divide and do them.

So, knowing that it has been dualized, hereafter the district and regional leaders must take special interest in the management problem. In speech and conduct, mental posture, and faith life—in all respects—one must manage so as not to go astray.

Hereafter, a time will come to select a representative family. When one family is selected in each district, one must form the Three Position Foundation centering on that family. One must go forward centering on a Three Position Foundation that can live together forever.

From there, the Kingdom of Heaven on earth unfolds. That is the principled world. To realize such a Kingdom of Heaven on earth, history develops. That the communist party absolutizes the party also has a point, in the aspect of centering on a center. That one dies by the party’s command and exists for the party has a point on one side.

You in the localities must fulfill that mission and responsibility centering on such a principle. One must prepare, being blessed oneself, to become a central family before later generations and before Heaven and earth.

Hereafter, in this age, one must go forward holding the mind to establish, through one’s own family, a firm foundation that can bear normal responsibility before God. Only then, one must bear in mind, does one not go against the law of living centered on the Principle.
