Today, centering on the Principle Research Association, university students gathered from throughout the nation; I will continue from the content I spoke of yesterday. Yesterday I spoke of the fact that the fall came about through the inheritance of a different lineage centering on illicit love.
The road of true religion
Because the fall of human beings has been connected through flesh and blood and bloodline, to restore this, one must cross a boundary line that can decide life and death. Without doing so, one cannot be restored. It is the same as grafting oneself, having become a wild olive tree, onto a true olive tree. For that, one cannot but meet a time of denying one’s own life. Unless one reaches such a position, one cannot be grafted.
In other words, one must pass through a process of denying oneself, and what kind of position is the extreme point of that denial? It is a position where one can cross over the realm of life and death. You must know that without passing through that position, there is no road by which one can be restored. That is why true religion sets out from a position of denial. You must know the fact that the road of religion must walk a course opposite to that of present-day society.
Then what is the han (恨) of parting (離) from love?
As we know today, without love there is no happiness. And freedom too—only freedom found in a happy position where there is love is the freedom all people commonly need; freedom found in a position apart from the framework of love is not the true original freedom.
People today commonly say, “Give us freedom.” And so they speak of liberal democracy and liberal thought, but if its fundamental foundation is some outward national thought or notion, or something centering on some material craving, or something cried out centering on some system, such freedom simply flows away.
Material conditions cannot be presented as the conditions of happiness through our hearts, and even if they became conditions of happiness, they absolutely cannot be presented as three-dimensional conditions of happiness. To furnish three-dimensional conditions of happiness equipped inside and out, there must be love.
That is why Christianity teaches, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your mind and with all your nature.”
In Christianity, knowing God is the first knowledge, and loving God is the first commandment.
Then, when we ask whether human beings have known God and, going further, have possessed a position of grasping happiness through experience, because there has been no person who passed through the condition presented as “Love” — that is, because they have not arrived at the result of “I have loved”—human beings are still going forth searching for happiness.
The conditions of freedom and happiness
A position of which one can say, “I am happy,” is at last accomplished in a position of becoming one centered on God’s love, which is the first commandment.
That a servant or a child rejoices before God, who is the master, and God, who is the parent, rejoices is unprincipled. It is the way of a servant to rejoice following the joy in which the master rejoices, and it is the way of a child to rejoice following the joy in which the parent rejoices.
But because in the history of humankind evil set out first, it did not become a start of joy in which the master could rejoice and the parent could rejoice. This is a natural principle. From such a resultant position, however much an individual pioneers on his own and feels joy, that joy is in every respect joy in a position departed from the master and joy in a position departed from the parent, and therefore there can be no true happiness there.
Therefore a servant desires to escape from such a departed environment of freedom and make a new start upon a foundation where the master rejoices, centering on the master’s love; and a child desires to make a new start upon a foundation where the parent rejoices, centering on the parent’s love. That seeking to resolve such a problem is religion's mission, and the purpose history has sought, cannot be denied.
Then, when we ask whether the substance of freedom, built on the framework of God’s love—a foundation of happiness in which Heaven rejoices, the earth rejoices, and all people and the created world can rejoice—has manifested on this globe, it has not yet.
Just as the Bible says, “Where the Spirit of God (the Spirit of the Lord) is, there is freedom”; where God is, there is freedom. But in a position where human beings have departed from God, however much they cry out for freedom, they cannot possess freedom. In this world where evil rather than good fell first, there can be no true freedom. You must know that our human life is placed within a realm of destiny in which we must tread upon and cross over from this position into which we were first born.
Then upon what foundation must such a problem be resolved? It is love. Happiness cannot exist apart from love. For an orphan, if there were a road by which he could meet his lost parents, there would be no position of joy beyond that. Even if he were stark naked, he would forget that and rejoice at meeting his parents. If he found the parents he had lost, the parents he could not find, the orphan could overcome any trial and any difficulty and praise one victory.
And if a husband who had been at the brink of death revived, that wife would regard her revived husband as a million times more precious than before. Not only that, if a beloved child had died and there were a possibility of his living again, those parents would not shrink even from their death to save the child. To those parents, comparing the joy of their dead child coming back to life and meeting them with the grief of their person being sacrificed, the joy of the child coming back and meeting them is stronger than their being sacrificed. Such power is established only in a position that contains love. You will often have seen and felt such things through daily life.
The meaning of Jesus proclaiming to love him more than anyone
Then how strong would God’s love be?
If, centering on love, there were a road by which one could not only find a lost father again but also take exclusive possession of that father’s love, shame could not block that road. The crossroads of death would not be a problem. However wretched and difficult the road, it could not govern one. You must know that this is the road that can overcome that and have more besides.
Only this road centering on true love is the one and only road that can sever the bonds of life that have become chronic and knotted within the fallen realm today and lead into the realm of resurrection. Apart from this, nothing in the world can lead there. That is why the first article of the teaching God gave us was the words “Love Me.”
And Jesus, about two thousand years ago, in such a time as the feudal age, in a solitary and lonely plight welcomed by no one, proclaimed to all people such revolutionary words as, “Love me more than your mother and father and more than anyone. Otherwise, you cannot become my disciple.” You must know the fact that he made such a proclamation solely because it would not do unless it was the road of love.
Because Jesus knew that God’s love, the only love of God, appears through himself, he made the crying proclamation that love must converge upon him. That is why those words were proper.
Then what was the content he proclaimed? It was not to take up swords and guns and fight. It was to be bound together centering on a bond of love. Jesus’ words “Love me” are words meaning “I will love you more than that.”
Love is not only self-centered, and not only centered on another. Because it is relative, “Love” means “I will love.” When we consider that from there human happiness begins and the heavenly will of heavenly law is established, we must know how precious this love is. You must know the fact that apart from such a road of love, there is no road of sacrifice.
The reason Jesus must return
Then, God must have wanted to love infinitely the Jesus He sent to this earth after a toilsome historical course of four thousand years; so why could He not love him?
Did Jesus receive God’s love and depart as the true only begotten son?
Jesus may have received more of God’s love than anyone in the course of grasping through experience the secrets of Heaven that no one in the satanic world knew and of unraveling the inner facts hidden behind the ages of history. In the position of knowing and grasping through experience the deep content of truth that no one knew, it may be proclaimed that he was in a position of having received God’s love more than anyone; but when we consider the question of whether he received God’s love in the aspect of daily life and departed, it was not so.
When we infer from Jesus’ words,
“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now” (John 16:12),
and from his lamenting words,
“I came to cast fire upon the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! And how distressed I am until this fire is kindled (Luke 12:49–50).
You must know the fact that Jesus, as a pioneer opening the road of seeking the truth hidden in the ages of history, may have received God’s love on behalf of all people, but in the aspect of daily life, he did not receive God’s love and depart.
Though he came to this earth as God’s only begotten son, he could not once act properly according to his conviction, and beginning with being driven and ending with being driven, he had to finish a life of misfortune at the young age of thirty-three. When we consider such a fact, we cannot but draw the conclusion that Jesus departed without having received God’s love in the aspect of daily life. That is why he could not become God’s ideal only begotten Son. Therefore, we cannot see Jesus’ aspect in daily life.
Jesus, receiving the opposition of Judaism and being denounced by the people of Israel as an agitator of national treason, showed only the appearance of an expelled orphan; he was not upheld as a master planted in the breast of every member of the people of Israel as a historical representative figure of heaven.
Because Jesus’ life was a life of being pursued and driven, in the aspect of daily life he could not show the value and character of the Messiah. It is a natural principle that apart from the stage of daily living, an ideal cannot be established. That is why Jesus could not stand in a position of saying, centering on some view of character and worldview, “I was happy. Become like me.” Therefore, it is a fact that he returned without having fulfilled his responsibility as an actor of love furnished before all people and before heaven.
The words “I have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now” mean that Jesus sought a time in the future world when they could be borne and people who could bear them. Considering such a fact, we cannot deny the fact that Jesus did not receive ideal love in his daily life and in his course of life. That is why Jesus must come again.
For example, in the case of a business trip, if one has gone and fulfilled the responsibility, a person who goes again on a trip already made would be a fool. When the work of the business trip is not accomplished, if one cannot go oneself, one must recommend and send someone else.
Seen this way, that Jesus must come again clearly proves the fact that Jesus departed without having received all of God’s love in the aspect of daily life and in the ideal aspect and without having established a framework of living that could protect all people.
Jesus was a pitiful one. That is why the Christians who follow Jesus too have not escaped a pitiful sphere of living. Not only that, they could not avoid a gypsy-like course, like duckweed drifting wherever the wind blows, toiling within a pitiful sphere of living toward the ideal end point of history. Such a history is precisely the history of Christianity, and such a band is the Christians. So you must know how wretched Jesus was.
Who will find God’s lost love?
It seems your throats hurt from straining them until late last night. It appears that way because you are not members of the Unification Church. If one is a member of the Unification Church, October 4 is a day one must think about seriously. Do you know what day today is? It is the day of liberation, sixteen years ago from now, from a position in which the Korean people raised the flag of persecution to wipe out the Unification Church and drove and drove and stabbed and pushed us onto a road of death. And yet, will it do to greet me this way from the morning? I did not come out before you to receive such a greeting. Shall I stop speaking? “No.” If there is such a person beside you, do not just look on but poke him with your finger. I would rather not become a person who guides only trifling bands. Do you understand, or not? “We understand.”
Why do we make such a fuss? What is the matter with dozing a little after coming here in the morning? If someone’s throat hurts and he is hanging his head, it is love to tilt his head back and open his mouth and give him medicine.
When one wakes in the morning and is shivering with cold, one feels bad. But when one sleeps in a warm room and wakes and the body tingles, that feels good. I tell you not to doze because you feel bad. Let us leave that talk and continue with the word.
I said, “The han (恨) of parting (離) from love”—what is love? We lost love. Because we lost God’s love, we lost ourselves and lost our parents and siblings, down to our distant in-laws and lost the Republic of Korea and the humankind of the world and everything. So now we must find this again.
Losing God’s love is like someone having compressed the only treasure in the world to the size of a grain of sand and thrown it into the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Then, when we ask whether there is anyone who can dive once and mention it, there would be many who say there is none, but how many would say there is someone? Rather, they would call the person who says he can find it a mad fellow. Where on earth would one go to find it? It cannot be found.
Yet if someone said, “I will do such a thing. I know undoubtedly that it exists. Whether it is caught in a crevice of rock or lodged somewhere, it must surely be there,” and actually dove in and picked it out at one go, saying, “This is it.” How would that feel? It is like that.
But that is hard. Which would be easier: a little child achieving the unification of all under heaven, or a diver diving into the sea and finding the treasure at one go? If one were told to choose one of these two, there would be more people who say that a little child achieving the unification of all under heaven is easier. Finding the treasure is that difficult. Then do you have the courage to do so? Until now, tens of millions of people have been carrying on this business of dying and dying again to find this, going in once and dying and going in and dying. That treasure is precisely God’s love.
To resolve the han of love
That one must carry on such a business is a sorrowful thing. Then would this sorrow be the sorrow of human beings alone? Would God not have grieved? Then would human beings have grieved more, or God? Think about it. Who would have grieved more? When it was lost and a boundary line was set so that it could not be found, God grieved more than human beings.
Currently, in the fall, God’s sorrow, as He watched their fall yet could not intervene, was greater than the sorrow of Adam and Eve, who were the parties that fell.
Human sorrow may be resolved by God, but who will resolve God’s sorrow? That human beings lost God’s love is like a child who lost his parents being able to recover his parents’ love if he finds his parents — one can find it if one finds God; but who can find for God, the parent of human beings, the love He used to receive from human beings? You must know such things. Can one say, “God can just find it Himself”? Can God, by Himself alone, find the love He lost from human beings?
If a newly married couple lived happily, saying, “You and I are a match made in heaven, one that no one can block,” and the husband died, could the wife alone find that husband’s love? Could the woman herself alone find her husband’s love? She could not. If there is one single road by which that love can be restored, it is nothing but the road of the dead husband coming back to life.
Likewise, because God too cannot find His lost love alone in finding it, there is no road but that of making the dead human beings live again. That is why there is resurrection and rebirth. There is no road but this. The method of finding that love does not lie with God. Because love is accomplished in a relative relationship, finding the lost love too requires an object. You must know this clearly.
So then, is God pitiful or not pitiful? You may say, “Why is the omniscient and omnipotent God pitiful?”But however omniscient and omnipotent He is, He cannot escape the shock of having lost His beloved sons and daughters. If a road by which He could escape that shock lay with God Himself, God would have no need to suffer through a historical course of six thousand years until now.
The han (恨) of love can be resolved and accomplished only through an object. So the road by which God’s han can be resolved lies with human beings. Where did I say it lies? “It lies with human beings.” Then are you confident that you can resolve God’s han? And do you have the qualifications to do so?
Have you ever risen in the morning and looked in the mirror and said, “I am a son who can resolve for God the han of the love He lost,” or, “I am a daughter who can resolve God’s han”?
Lineage is the cord of love
Women, when they rise in the morning, look in the mirror and put on makeup, and they put on a great deal of needless makeup. For whose sake do they put on makeup? Is it for the sake of the other, or for their own sake? Originally, makeup (화장) is real makeup only when done at the crematorium (화장터). (Laughter) That very word for makeup is unpleasant. If such a thought came to mind, one would put on makeup from a serious position. For whose sake is it done that way?
When one rides the train to Seoul and looks, from thirty minutes before arriving at Seoul Station, the toilets begin to get busy, and it is almost all women in skirts. The men are dignified. That is why in the Last Days the women are busier than the men.
Though you may not be good-looking, you will think that your mother and father cannot live without you. Why do they say they cannot live without you? It is because of love.
Then through what does love unfold? It unfolds through an object. And through what of the object must it be? It must be through the bloodline. Love through the bloodline is substantial love. Thus, wherever the bloodline goes, love without fail follows.
Our people are called the Baedal people, or the Han people. When you go abroad and see a Korean being slighted or wronged by foreigners, you will feel your blood boiling. And what happens when the blood boils? Does the fist go out, or not? Without your knowing it, the fist goes out. Even if the other’s fist is so strong that one might die, that is a secondary matter; however large the other’s build, one will push him back and strike back and fight. That is righteousness. That is why the Bible emphasizes blood. Therefore, in love, I tell you to love following the bloodline.
Where did I say your cord of love began? Where did it set out from?
It was said that it began from evil. What is the ringleader of this evil? It is Satan, the devil. What bond does this devil have? He is an adulterer. A ganbu? An officer (幹部) of the Principle Research Association? He is not such a ganbu but a ganbu (姦夫), an adulterer. Human beings were born having inherited the flesh and blood of that adulterer.
If so, does the love we seek to receive mean the love of an adulterer? Did we seek to receive the love of an impure bloodline inherited through the bloodline of an adulterer? This is the problem.
Human beings must resolve the conflict of mind and body
The mind accompanies eternity, and the body accompanies one lifetime. The mind regulates one’s life, and the body regulates one’s daily living. Daily living and life are different. “Life” refers to one’s whole lifetime, and “daily living” refers to one day. Thus, you must know that our bodies and minds are different in themselves.
Human beings are arranged so that the mind governs one’s life and the body governs one’s daily living. That is why, if one does not eat in one’s day-to-day living, the body dies. Yet the mind says, “Eat, but you must not eat in a position that goes against your life.” Seen in this sense, which is greater? “The mind.” The view the mind desires is greater.
Then, since the body is set upon one lifetime and the mind upon eternity, which of these dies first? Can the two die at the same time? A long lifespan means living long. Even so, when it comes to dying, which dies first? The body dies first. The mind does not die together with the body.
So how good it would have been if the mind and the body had been born through the same bloodline so that they could like each other! But because of the fall, the human body became a being centered on Satan’s flesh and blood. Yet because God is the God of original nature, He has put down roots in the mind of human beings’ original nature. In other words, the mind is the outpost of the kingdom of heaven, and the body is the outpost of hell. Therefore, we must set life right from the mutually contradictory position of heaven and hell. Walking the road of destiny at such a crossroads is the road of human life. Then why must we walk such a road? It is to resolve the han (恨) of parting (離) from love.
What the final religion must take responsibility for
Now you will have come to know why the God of power, in resolving the problem of love, cannot but go through an object. Then what kind of object is that object? One must seek a true person, one true man. Yet in seeking that one true man, one does not seek by rough guesswork. One must seek according to the original principle of creation.
A broken product cannot become a complete article without being repaired according to the process by which a finished product is made in the factory.
Likewise, one must come seeking while correcting what must be corrected, removing what must be removed, and adding what must be added, according to the original program of creation, so that a perfect man can come forth. Because a perfect man cannot come forth without following the principle of creation, history until now has been a process of repairing the broken son, the man who flowed away into evil, twisted over a long period.
Because a man has not yet stood in a position where he can perfectly marry centering on God’s love, history has been coming forth until now, deferring marriage and saying not to marry. That marriage must be done from a position where one man comes forth and becomes a perfect man who receives God’s love. That position must be a position better than the position of the fallen Adam and Eve. Because they fell down from here (He wrote on the board), one must be better than Adam and Eve who fell down. You must know this.
From where does salvation begin?
Only when one ascends to the very line at which Adam and Eve fell does salvation unfold. Below that line, however much one strives, it is only a little higher or lower; salvation cannot unfold. Accordingly, the question of how to escape this line of death is the long-cherished wish of humankind.
To escape this, upon what must one center?
Means alone will not do. One cannot but connect it, centering on God’s love, into a position of the same bloodline. That is, one must reconfirm that God is my Father. Do you understand? “Yes.” How far is this being called “I” at present from the original position of Adam centering on God? In temporal distance, it would be not six thousand years but six million years—no, six hundred million years.
Passing through such a tremendous period, going through all sorts of courses, the shape has become twisted and shriveled into a state that cannot be called a son of God. And yet God teaches such human beings, “You are My son,” and is persuading us that it is a relationship of child and father. Teaching such things is the way the final religion must take responsibility for.
Then what kind of father among fathers would God be?
He is not a Father needed only when one prays. He is a Father who has been resurrecting human beings through one son through the process of history. Do you understand? That is why the sages of history strove to go to a higher position: it was to find the position of a son who can receive God’s love.
God and human beings, who could not give and receive perfect love
Then what rule can leap across this distance?
If there is a rule that can transcend that distance, what would it be? Can one transcend that distance with the power of life? Can I leap over a person from several thousand years ago? That cannot be done with the power of life. It is possible only through love. Even for a child who died ten years ago, when parents think of that child, the aching heart of the time the child died is reenacted. The only power that can bring things into contact on the same level without difference, transcending the distance of a lifetime and of history, transcending time and space, is love.
To reenact such love, God keeps teaching us the fact that He is the Father of humankind. If a father lost six thousand years ago appeared now, six thousand years later, and said, “I am your father,” could you believe it? Could you believe those words? That is why God explains, “Your eyes resemble Me in this way, and your head resembles Me in that way.”
And when He explains, “At such and such a time this happened to you, and you have grown up like this until now. Your ancestors raised you in this way,” and still they do not believe, He explains, “What you are thinking now is this”; and still they do not believe, so He teaches, “If you do this, this will happen,” and has come on until now. This is God’s method of guidance.
God wishes to meet one day when fallen human beings can throw their arms around the Father’s neck and wail, saying, “Ah! Our Father is like this.” That is the greatest desire of God, who is placed in sorrow because of a son who grasped fallen love through experience. Do you understand?
Only in a position where one embraces His neck and cries “Father!” and draws a double curve, where tears of desolation, tears of joy, tears of han, tears of forlornness are all mixed, can one grasp love through experience. It will not do without having shed such tears. Have you ever shed such tears and mucus? You will not yet have entered such a serious position. Have you ever wept a weeping in which your eyes bulge, your nose runs into your mouth, and your tongue curls back? Have you ever wailed until your head ached? You will not know what the philosophy of tears is.
Then what must God do in finding love?
Because God by Himself cannot find love, to find that love, a person who can love must come into being. Is it not so? That is, sons and daughters who can love must be born again. Yet the problem is whether God has ever loved a person perfectly. He tried to love, but He could not love. This is the problem.
I said that Jesus, too, could not receive God’s love in daily life and could not receive ideal love. So God has never loved perfectly. He has been able to love only to the extent of the formation level and the growth level. That is why the love of the completion stage remains.
Suppose that a maiden, born as the only daughter of a distinguished family in some village and raised with care, reached the age of marriage and died while a bridegroom was being sought. Then her parents would weep, saying, “Oh, my child! You have become a maiden ghost without even being able to marry.” Her dying is grievous, but they grieve still more that she died unmarried.
Likewise, God too says, “You wretched fallen, Adam and Eve! That you died is a han, but the greater han is that I could not properly give you the love that lies deep in My breast.” Would it be so, or not? Have you ever thought of such a heart of God?
Then when will God, the parent, resolve the han of the love He could not properly give to His children? God’s heart, to resolve this han is like the endless heart of a parent who says he will find his beloved child. Is it understood?
That is why God has come seeking a day when He can love His children, pouring out all the passion deep in His breast with which He wishes to love. Before human beings love God, God first seeks to love human beings. Is this not God, who is in the position of the Father, the subject of love? Is this understood? “Yes.” Seen in that sense, the fallen Adam and Eve are pitiful.
God’s desolate circumstances
Then, though Adam and Eve must themselves take responsibility for their fall, what must be done about the archangel who caused Adam and Eve to fall? Because through that archangel God’s love was destroyed and God’s han remained, the neck of this chief culprit ought to be cut off and he ought to be wiped out. Would it not be so?
Then why did the archangel come to make them fall? Because he felt a sense of decrease of love. Do you understand? Then, considering the question of whether the archangel received perfect love from God, he did not. It goes as far as this.
There remains the han of not having loved the archangel by giving him all the inner heart by which one could say, “Though you are the chief culprit of the fall, within a realm of perfection that can embrace all heaven and earth and overflow with the rapture of love, I will make today’s joy your joy and today’s glory your glory.” Before resolving this han, for God to say He will be loved by us is a paradoxical matter.
It is the proper way that even God, the center of heaven and earth, should demand responsibility only after fulfilling the responsibility He Himself must fulfill. Here the logic is established that God cannot but love even the enemy. That is why it is said that when one is struck on the left cheek, one must offer the right cheek. Do you understand? Is there such a case? In a world of reckless plunder and violation, does it seem one could survive with such a law? Yet according to the law of heavenly principle, if one cannot possess the result of love, one cannot realize the ideal of love. That is why, without establishing oneself as one who loves the enemy, one cannot stand in a resultant position of having loved the enemy. Do you understand?
That God has not been able to call to account the archangel, who for six thousand years has committed tens of millions of times the act of cutting off the necks of His beloved sons and daughters, is because He bears the responsibility of not having loved the archangel perfectly. That is why there has been a desolate background of history in which, until now, when someone has done wrong, one has had to consult, saying, “God! So-and-so is about to do this.” Such content can be known because the Unification Church has come forth today; it was content no one knew.
The common iron rule by which the world can be restored
God could not but love even the archangel, His enemy. Then what must human beings, who are God’s sons, do? To inherit God’s love, one must do the same work as God. It is the same as how, to inherit the household law of a house, one must furnish the subject-like qualification of being able to extend in all directions the way of living and the bond of love of the parents of that house.
Only when the day comes when God perfectly loves Satan and Adam and Eve, from the position in which God loves Satan, can God perfectly love Satan; then this fallen world returns to the original world. One must cross over this crest of the summit. Do you understand?
Then what has God been doing until now?
He has been eagerly awaiting one man and one woman to come forth upon this earth of whom it could be said that, from His position, they loved Satan. That is why Jesus Christ, even facing the Roman soldiers who nailed him to the cross, begged forgiveness, saying,
“Father, forgive their sins, for they do not know what they do (Luke 23:34).
To become sons and daughters who can return to God, one cannot but establish, even conditionally, a standard of love of having perfectly loved the enemy Satan from God’s position. This is the road that human beings who seek God must walk. It is the doctrine of Christianity that teaches this. Is that right, or not? “It is right.”
Accordingly, people who seek to go to the kingdom of heaven must love their enemy and forgive his sin. Loving people is precisely loving God. That is why the Bible has Jesus’ words: when it is said, “When I was hungry you gave Me food, and when I was thirsty you gave Me drink, and when I was a stranger you took Me in, and when I was naked you clothed Me, and when I was sick you looked after Me, and when I was in prison you came to see Me,” the righteous on the right hand say, “Lord! When did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? When did we see You sick or in prison and go to visit You?” and He answers,
“Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to Me (Matthew 25:35–40).”
This is the common iron rule by which this world can be restored. You must know this.
God is caught in such a matter. If this had been a relationship of only the two, God and the archangel, in a master-servant relationship, it would already have been restored. But because human beings, Adam and Eve, became the medium between God and the archangel, six thousand years of history have flowed by to resolve this. That is why Christianity teaches the way of love: “Love even your enemy. Even if you are killed by the enemy’s arrow, pray for blessings upon them.” This is the teaching of Christianity. Then how much love did the archangel receive from God? He did not receive as much love as Adam received.
Abel’s responsibility
Then what must human beings do? First, one must become one body centering on God’s love. Otherwise, one cannot return to God. Then, to become one body centering on God’s love, what condition must be furnished? One must stand in a position of loving the archangel. Human beings must first stand in a position of being able to receive God’s love and second must stand in a position of being able to love the archangel. Only then can one be saved. This is an iron rule.
Because the fall came about in a state of not being able to receive God’s love, to be restored to the original position, one must rise to a position where one can receive God’s love. One must rise to a position of love of a higher dimension than the position of love Adam received at the growth level. And then what must be done? One must love the archangel, who is God’s servant and also the servant of Adam and Eve. Just as the father loves the servant, the son too must love the servant. If a son rejects the servant whom his father loves, that son becomes an unfilial child before his parent. Just as there is an Eastern saying that father and son are one body, because father and son are one body, if the father loves the servant, the son too must love the servant to that same degree.
Accordingly, to return to the original position of creation, one must first establish the condition that God loved the archangel and then that Adam and Eve loved the archangel. Otherwise, one cannot return to the original position of a son of creation. That is why the being established in place of the archangel is Cain, and the being established in place of Adam is Abel, to set up such conditions.
Because Abel is a being standing in place of Adam, God’s son, he must form one body with God. For that, Abel cannot help but enter a position of receiving God’s love more than Cain.
For Abel to fulfill his responsibility, he must receive much of God’s love, but where does that purpose lie? There is also the purpose of Abel’s own salvation, but the greater purpose is to love Cain and thereby save that Cain. You must know clearly that this is the fundamental principle.
To become Abel, one must receive God’s love from a position closer than anyone’s, and there must be a Cain. Without Cain, it will not do. And who is that Cain? He is the enemy. Centering on such a relationship of Cain and Abel, all the problem points of the Old and New Testaments are arranged to be resolved. This world has been developing until now, centering on such a principle, divided into Abel on God’s side and Cain on Satan’s side.
Also, God is on the right side, and Satan’s side is on the left. That is why Jesus is at the right hand of God.
Jesus, who expounded the whole origin of the life of the universe, was pierced by the enemy’s spear, but from there the bond of atonement was rooted upon this earth. That Jesus loved his enemy even in the position of being pierced by the spear becomes God’s having loved the enemy Satan and becomes Adam’s having loved the archangel, who is Satan.
By this, God and Adam and Eve and the archangel form one body and enter the original realm of love before the fall. This is the realm of God’s love that the Unification Church speaks of. Accordingly, the conclusion comes out that unless one centers on the content of such a realm of love, the kingdom of heaven is not accomplished.
The time when everything from the individual to the world splits in two is the Last Days. The motive of the fall was entirely that they centered on the individual. The archangel too fell because of a sense of decrease of love centering on his own individual self, and Adam too fell because he centered on his own individual desire. Because the seed of the fall was sown this way, you must know that such a time has become the Last Days.
Because human beings fell and mind and body split, they are corrupted individually, and the families formed of such individuals are also corrupted. That is why those families are split into four sides: God’s side, Abel’s side, Satan’s side, Cain’s side.
Even when Jesus died on the cross, centering on Jesus, there was the robber on the right, God’s side, and the robber on the left, Satan’s side. Accordingly, in the Last Days too, there must be God’s side and Abel’s side, Satan’s side and Cain’s side. What corresponds to the robber on the right and the robber on the left is today’s right wing and left wing. Since it was sown that way, it must be reaped that way.
Hereafter, a time will come when the world splits into four sides and they fight one another. The democratic world too will split, and the communist world too will split. The religious sphere is classified into the democratic sphere and the Arab sphere. The democratic sphere is the realm of Jesus, and the Arab sphere is the realm of Barabbas. The communist sphere too will unfold into two forms, the realm of Satan and the realm of Cain. And because Jesus was in the center when he died, splitting into four groups centering on Jesus and then gathering this up again is the only way the liberation of a new nation and a new people can unfold. That is why the Messiah who is to come hereafter must come with a thought that can unify the world.

God, who has restored by sacrificing those closest to Him
For the Lord to unify the world, things must be sorted out again as they were originally sown, and what is that content? It is the position of Cain and Abel.
Because han was bound through love, this han cannot but be filled in through love. That is why the words “the han of parting from love” came about, and that is why God cannot strike the enemy.
So God has been carrying out a strategy of first being struck by Satan and then taking it back. As much blood as one has shed in being struck by the satanic world, that much one takes back to Heaven’s side.
Seen through this principle, there are far too many wronged people in the world. Good people cannot live well, while evil people live well. Yet I tell good people not to feel wronged that they cannot live well. Because God’s strategy is to be struck first and then take back; through the sacrifice of one good person, thousands of people can be taken back from the satanic world. God has been unraveling history this way.
Then how is the Unification Church arranged?
Within the Unification Church, too, there is an individual-level Cain and Abel, and a family-level Cain and Abel. What kind of family is a Cain family? It is a family that opposes when one receives God’s direct love. Just as Satan came about by envying Adam’s being loved by God, a family that envies a family that can receive God’s love becomes a Cain family.
When one enters a position of receiving God’s love, Satan tries, attaching whatever reason, to drive one into the very bottom, the position of prison. That is why in the history of humankind saints and great men have always been sacrificed through the slander and schemes of treacherous officials. And among those who held the sovereignty of a nation, too, extremely few held sovereignty without an unjust prison life. Even while being pursued, they did not yield but seized the authority of the nation and presented a new road.
Likewise, the Unification Church too has been persecuted until now, but I think that we received that persecution well. If there is a person one loves, causing him to be persecuted is, in the result, evidence of truly loving that person. That is why I drive the members of the Unification Church so that they are persecuted. I beat and drive them to live for the people and live for the world even while eating dog food.
God too has carried out a Providence until now of sending out those He loves onto the road of death. That is God’s Providence of Restoration. It is God’s tactic to have sown the seed of love through the death of the beloved on God’s side to love the enemy. God has had the loyal subject He loves most among loyal subjects die for the enemy, and through that has gathered in bands of loyal subjects.
Moreover, by having the adopted son He loves most among adopted sons die for the enemy, He has made him a seed and harvested a thousandfold, ten thousandfold. That is the history of Christianity.
That God sacrificed Jesus, His most beloved son, was to harvest a thousandfold, ten thousandfold, through him. Because Jesus’ road of death was a road that could restore heavenly law, for those who follow that road, a road opens by which they can meet liberation, and so they can have the hope of salvation. Seen this way, Christianity is exceedingly logical.
From this viewpoint, the way of thinking until now that religion and science cannot become one must be abandoned. Science is said to be concrete and systematic, but rather than science, religion is more concrete and systematic. Science is formed through experiment upon the logic of hypothesis and supposition.
Have you seen the atom that science speaks of?
One sets up a hypothesis and proves it through experiment. But the Principle of the Unification Church is not a hypothesis but a true positing (眞設).
If we speak of being scientific, it is a thoroughly scientific principle.
The reason Christianity became a religion of martyrdom
God has until now sacrificed first the servant He loves most. From that servant, He has sacrificed his family and his clan. Seen historically, if He had not done so, then God would be a false one. God did not hesitate to sacrifice the people of the servant He loved.
Then which people were the people of the servant whom God loved?
It was the people of Israel. That people of Israel had to pass through the position of servant of servants and then the position of servant and next pass through the position of adopted son and the position of son and rise to the position of parent. But the people of Israel could not do so.
Because human beings fell, they fell into a realm without principle in which they could form no relationship at all with God. Because human beings fell, Satan became the father of human beings, but Satan gives human beings neither the treatment of sons and daughters nor even the treatment of servants. Why is that? Because if Satan taught human beings parental love, human beings would return to God’s bosom.
It is just that, however good autumn is and however good winter is, when spring comes, one kicks away all the things of autumn and winter and comes out. In other words, once fallen human beings come to know parental love, they seek that love and return to God’s bosom.
That is why Satan, the enemy, though he became the parent of fallen human beings, became a parent who cannot love his children, and therefore he has been leading human beings into evil so that they do not come to know love.
If human beings came to know love, they would leave Satan’s bosom, just as ducklings raised in a hen’s bosom, when one day they come to know that the hen is not their mother, leave one by one.
That is why Satan has been putting on the brakes so that fallen human beings cannot seek their original parent, restraining them so that they cannot even bring up the word "love." The history of humankind has flowed this way.
What holds the name of father but lures human beings into evil from the position of an enemy is Satan. That is why, because it would be a great problem if human beings began speaking of love, the communists, who have become Satan’s henchmen, abolished the citizens’ freedom of speech.
If they so much as open their mouths, they are commonly put before a criticism session or put to death. Do you understand?
Seen this way, the Bible is doing the work of catching Satan. The Bible teaches not only “Love your neighbor as yourself” but also “Love even your enemy.” Satan cannot be subjugated by force. But before the sword (劍) of love, he is arranged to submit naturally. Before a person who says he will sacrifice even across three generations to repay the enemy, even Satan cannot but submit. Seen in that sense, the saying our ancestors used, “What is not gained at first is gained at the third try (初不得三),” all has its reason.
God sacrificed the people of Israel in that way. Though He is a God of great power, the reason He made the first generation of the people of Israel suffer in Egypt, drew out the second generation into the wilderness and made them suffer, and let only the third generation enter Canaan, and then sent Jesus, was for that reason as well.
For the sake of establishing a standard of having loved, whom did God sacrifice? The people of Israel, whom He loves?
It was to establish the standard of having perfectly loved Satan. Because God has not been able to establish the condition of having perfectly loved Satan on the individual, family, clan, people, national, and worldwide levels, He must go all the way to the standard of having perfectly loved him. That is why Christianity, until it became today’s worldwide religion, has trodden the road of death for the sake of the world. That is why Christianity is called a religion of martyrdom.
What was the reason Christianity had to become a religion of martyrdom?
It is because the standard of the han of not having loved the archangel in the age of the original Adam and Eve of creation must be crossed on the individual, family, clan, people, and national levels, and the position of having perfectly loved the archangel must be restored at the worldwide standard.
Because it was in a position of having to establish such an iron rule of love, it has walked the road of martyrdom until now while shedding blood. When you consider that it is a religion that has walked such a road of martyrdom, you must be grateful to Christianity.
Now is the time when Cosmism sets out
Because Christianity led nations and founded the democratic world, going beyond the position of being put to death and driven before the enemy, it has at last established the condition of saying, “I loved you perfectly.” Thereby God has come to stand in a position of being able to say, “Now you love Me perfectly”; and that is why now is the point when, even in the position where the democratic world on God’s side and the communist world on Satan’s side confront each other, the democratic world on God’s side can win.
That victory becomes precisely the victory of Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve are at once the True Parents of humankind and the true elder brother and true elder sister. Moreover, they are the highest man among men and the highest woman among women.
The one who comes upon this earth in place of such an Adam, for the third time, furnished with the qualification of the original Adam, is precisely the Lord of the Second Advent; and the day when that Lord of the Second Advent receives the highest woman is the day of the marriage feast of the Lamb spoken of in the Bible.
By the Lord of the Second Advent receiving that highest woman as his bride, the perfection of man and the perfection of woman are accomplished, and the right of inheritance of the love of having perfectly loved centering on God’s love is received. This is precisely the time when the Lord of the Second Advent comes upon this earth and sets out to build a new kingdom of heaven. The Unification Church regards this as the setting out of Cosmism.
Then in what position will the people who can inherit the law of the kingdom of Heaven hereafter be placed?
Just as the Bible says, “In the Last Days the members of your household will be your enemies,” one will become enemies with the members of one’s household. One will become enemies with parents, enemies with siblings, and husband and wife will become enemies. If there is a religion that comes forth with such a bond of becoming enemies with the members of one’s household, one must wrap one’s head and follow that religion.
Accordingly, humankind must look to see whether there is or is not a person raising such a wind in the present age, in which a religious sphere is being formed worldwide. If Teacher Moon of the Unification Church is the man raising such a wind, would it not be worth following him once? It is worth following once.
The road the Unification Church has walked
The Unification Church has until now received much persecution and been abused. Do you think that being abused was wrong, or that we were rightly abused? If there is a person who resents or complains about being abused, that person will perish. I think that this road is a road that can be walked only by a person who goes disregarding everything, saying, “Abuse me if you will abuse me; persecute me if you will persecute me; like me if you will like me.”
That the Unification Church walks such a historical course is the desolate road of a leader for the sake of those who in the future will believe in the Unification Church and must walk the course of restoration. It is the same as how God has, until now, driven His beloved sons and the servants who gave full loyalty onto the road of death and had them cross, in His place, the crest of the han of not having been able to love Satan.
The vertical battle of history until now has been a battle to find one perfect man and one perfect woman. When one wins in this battle and finds one man and one woman, through them one can determine the subject-like content by which the crest of han can be crossed before one nation and the humankind of the world, centering on a worldwide horizontal stage. Without doing so, a new start of heaven and earth cannot be made. That is why the Unification Church comes forth centering on parental love and sibling love.
That is why, when one comes to the Unification Church, one’s parents or siblings oppose it with all their might. And if that does not work, they come out strongly saying, “Let us cut the bond with the parent or sibling completely.” You, too, have heard such words, have you not? They make a fuss saying, “You wretch. Surely I love you; would Teacher Moon of the Unification Church love you more?” I have seen all sorts of such sights. Yet I do not curse them. You, too, must not curse them. Even at the instant when an enemy is about to shoot your mother in the breast with a gun, if you pray to be able to stand for him with a heart of love rather than a heart of cursing, you will not be caught by Satan. God too has come on carrying out such business until now.
Then how far must the Unification Church be driven?
It must be driven to a position where we are not even treated as human beings. Seen from this point, what sort of treatment has Teacher Moon of the Unification Church received until now?
Yet even while undergoing such humiliation, I have never once made excuses to those who say such things. If I had time to make excuses, I would have thought that I would rather concentrate still more on going my own urgent road and have come to think that such words have nothing whatsoever to do with me.
That is why I had you postpone even going on to university and drove you out to the front line of the war. When the nation is about to perish, would it be a sin to block the road to university and send you to the battlefield? That is rather love. Can one attend university when there is no nation? So the principle is to find the nation first before going on to university.
Though Teacher Moon of the Unification Church has been much abused by the people of the world, how would it have been in God’s sight? Would He love him, or not? Think about it. Since he found out the twists of God’s han and did God’s work, how trustworthy and how pleasing he must have been!
When, at the highest crest of history, one grinds one’s sword, saying one will handle the world centering on a heavenly law no one knows, would God take Teacher Moon’s side, or not? And if God takes my side, would He take it wholly, or only halfway? He will take my side wholly. So the conclusion comes out that God is not in the established churches. I live by such a rule; otherwise I am not a man who would live being abused by others.
The person who lives following the mainstream remains in history
Today, October 4, is the sixteenth anniversary of my release from Seodaemun Prison. For people who know the will, and especially the young people among them who know the will, it is a meaningful day to be commemorated by lying prostrate on the ground and wailing. It is because you do not know the content that you just sit like this; if you knew the content, you could not just sit.
These days the press organizations are making a great fuss trying to overturn the Unification Church, but that is the doing of people who do not know Teacher Moon of the Unification Church. Though I now sit on the hill of Cheongpa-dong like a tiger with a broken back, on the day this tiger’s back heals, something will happen that shakes heaven and earth.
Now in Japan, the Unification Church is fighting the communists on every front. If such a Unification Church band prospers, would the world prosper or not? It would prosper. Yet in the world, they make a fuss, saying they hate the sight of the Unification Church for no reason.
Returning to the main point, Korea is now divided north and south along the armistice line—do you know why it became so? Seen from the standpoint of the Principle, unless it were divided that way, Korea could not become the Third Israel. Just as the Bible says the members of your household are your enemies, the individual too must be divided into Cain and Abel, and the family into a Cain family and an Abel family, and the clan into a Cain clan and an Abel clan, and the people into a Cain people and an Abel people, and the nation into a Cain nation and an Abel nation, and the world into a Cain world and an Abel world. That Cain world is the communist world, and the Abel world is the democratic world.
Then, is it that the people of the democratic world are all good people and the people of the communist world are all bad people? That is not so. The people of the democratic world and the people of the communist world are all mottled. That is why in the democratic world too there is a mainstream and a non-mainstream, and in the communist world too there is a mainstream and a non-mainstream. You must know that such a form exists not only in any society or organization but in the family as well.
Within yourselves too, there is a mainstream and a non-mainstream. The mainstream within you yourselves refers to the mind, and the non-mainstream refers to the body. The person who lives following the mainstream will become a person who remains in history. Therefore, you must live centering on the mind and leading the body.
The plan for world unification
Only content that can be unified before the mainstream becomes a plan that can unify the world. Then what is the plan that can unify the world? It is love. Only love becomes content that can unify the world. Because the world split apart from the position where the bond of God’s love was severed, world unification is possible only in a position of connecting the bond of God’s love again.
Yet, to connect that bond of love again, there must first be one perfect individual of God. In the Garden of Eden, Adam was the only being who could connect to the bond of God’s love. Yet because God lost such a single being, the result was the loss of the world centering on that individual, and therefore, before unifying the world, one individual whose body and mind are perfectly unified centering on love must first be found.
But because such an individual cannot be found in this fallen world, a Savior became necessary. Therefore, the plan for world unification must converge upon the Messiah, that is, the Savior. Why is that? Because world unification is possible only through God’s love, and the only person who can connect that love of God is the Messiah; therefore, that Messiah cannot but become the factor of world unification.
Then how does that Messiah unify this fallen world?
When the love of God, which is connected vertically, is connected horizontally, countless individuals centering on God’s love come into being. And when those men and women form families centering on God’s love, and such families gather to form clans, and clans gather to form a people, and peoples gather to form nations, and nations gather to form the world, this world is automatically unified. Seen this way, the question is how much each of you loves the nation centering on God’s love.
The mind must love the body. That is, one must set up a signpost that the mind, which is Abel, perfectly loved the body, which is Cain. If, while working in the countryside, you are hungry and so weak that you cannot lift your arm, you must be able to take hold of that arm and wail. If you do so, the body and mind can become one. When body and mind become one this way, light shines out from there.
Accordingly, the body must obey and follow as the mind leads. Not only that, even when the mind leads it onto a lonely road, the body must go all the way to a position of comforting the mind instead and shedding tears and loving it. Otherwise, body and mind do not become one. That does not happen in a comfortable position of laughing and dancing.
Because the road of seeking that position must go into the highest realm of crossing over the crossroads of death — going hungry, being pursued, being persecuted—the road of religion cannot escape a road of hardship. That is why the road of religion is a road of ascetic practice. Yet because one knows that such a road of ascetic practice is good, one goes even if told not to go. Once one knows that it is good, one is determined to do it, whatever the difficulty.
That is why, even if a person who attended the Unification Church left the Unification Church, he cannot attend another church. Even having left, if he takes up a religion, he is arranged to return to the Unification Church. Why is that? Because the road the Unification Church walks is difficult to follow but worthwhile, while other religions are trifling and there is no relish in believing, so there is nowhere to go. If there were a road by which one could go somewhere else, I would have gone first.
I have come through more than fifty years of my life being abused. Even now, whenever it is said that Teacher Moon of the Unification Church has appeared somewhere, they simply hate it. It is not only individuals; the whole world makes a fuss. When I try to go to Japan, they oppose, saying, “This person is a person requiring special attention, so do not let him enter”; when I try to go to America, the United States State Department opposes; wherever I go, I am a man who has lived being pursued and persecuted.
Yet if I want to go to Japan, I go to Japan, and if I want to go to America, I go to America. As long as it does not violate that country’s law, however much they oppose, I press down on the very top of that country and enter. Teacher Moon of the Unification Church lives by such a relish.
What must be done now is to restore Cain and Abel
Today the weather is truly fine. I have felt good from the morning, from the time I met you. Since today is October 4, which was a new morning of light and a new morning of liberation, it seems the weather today is fine.
This year, the decade of the 1970s, is a decade for indemnifying seven thousand years of history. And it would not be good to feel bad on today, the fourth day of the beginning of October. Since the weather today is fine and my mood is good, I say this in passing.
Let us return to the main point.
How is Korea arranged?
Here too, there is a mainstream and a non-mainstream. Then is there a mainstream and a non-mainstream within the Unification Church, or not? Here too, there is. Because complete restoration has not yet been achieved, as long as the fallen world exists, a mainstream and a non-mainstream are arranged to exist everywhere.
Then what is non-mainstream?
Seen from the religious side, they are people who, contrary to the direction of the will that God aims at, do not walk the straight road but try to go around by means and methods.
Looking at history until now, one can see that in every age it was the foolish people who became the loyal subjects of that age and became the pioneers. Seen from this point, the king of the most foolish person in this world may become the Lord of the Second Advent. Look at Jesus. Abandoning the fine palace of the kingdom of Heaven, he came into the satanic world and spoke only of the kingdom of Heaven, so he could not but become a captive and die, could he? So how foolish Jesus was!
Jesus was a person who came from the kingdom of Heaven into Satan’s kingdom and tried to take away Satan’s throne. Just as in the old Goguryeo period Prince Hodong went in to take away Princess Nakrang, Jesus too came to take away the princess of the satanic world. Yet because he failed, the Lord of the Second Advent, who is to come hereafter, must also come to take away the princess of the satanic world. He must come to take away the princess and take away the queen. That is because Satan took away God’s princess and took away God’s queen, and therefore, by the principle of indemnity and restoration, Satan’s princess and queen must be taken back. God’s Providence of Restoration was to do that work.
Looking at the Bible, there appears the incident of David taking Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah. Uriah was David’s loyal subject, and by taking that loyal subject’s wife and lying with her, Solomon was born through that lineage. You must know that such an affair was entirely a work of indemnity and restoration for God to find and establish the Eve taken away by Satan.
Such an affair, at that time, was something one could not understand, however one tried to understand it. But seen through the sixty-six books of the Bible, one cannot but acknowledge it. All the matters in the Bible are matters that came about based on principle. Therefore, this is understood only when unraveled, centering on the Principle. So anyone who opposes Teacher Moon of the Unification Church is arranged to be struck by lightning.
Now what you must do is to restore Cain and Abel. Then what must Abel do to go to the kingdom of heaven? He must love Cain. Without loving Cain, one cannot go to the kingdom of heaven.
I said that in a nation there is a mainstream and a non-mainstream; seen centering on the Republic of Korea, there are South Korea and North Korea. Of these, which side is the mainstream? South Korea is the mainstream. And South Korea and North Korea are in the positions of Abel and Cain within one nation. That is why South Korea, on God’s side, established sovereignty first. If one looks at the figures at the time of the founding of the government of the Republic of Korea, almost all of them were Christians, centering on Dr. Syngman Rhee.
The idealism of the Unification Church
Considering the positions of South Korea as Abel and North Korea as Cain, because Cain always strikes Abel first, North Korea struck South Korea first. Evil always takes an offensive position, and goodness always takes a defensive position.
This world is a fallen world in which good people on Heaven’s side cannot live well. So we must liberate this fallen world. The slogan of the communists today is to liberate the laborers and farmers scattered throughout the world. But the worldwide slogan the Unification Church raises in seeking the ideal world hereafter is, “Let the conscientious people scattered throughout the world be totally mobilized!” “Conscientious people of all the world, be totally mobilized!” is the worldwide slogan the Unification Church carries forward.
The word “conscientious” is not a word spoken centering on oneself. The word “conscientious” is spoken departing from oneself and being conscious of some subject. It is a word established within the individual called “I” upon a standard centering on the subject called "conscience." It refers to a relative position before a subject.
Accordingly, within the word “conscientious” are included, transcending class, laborers, farmers, scholars, professors, politicians, and economic figures. On the other hand, in this world there are unconscientious laborers, farmers, scholars, professors, politicians, and economic figures—unconscientious people of all sorts. Moreover, there are even unconscionable religious people. Speaking of this in terms of the Principle, unconscientious people are Cain, and conscientious people are Abel.
Yet the communists are neither conscientious people nor unconscientious people. The slogan they raise is nothing more than a device for exploiting laborers and farmers.
Then what is the purpose for which the Unification Church seeks to mobilize conscientious people?
It is to mobilize conscientious people centering on God and broaden the Abel-realm world and thereby eliminate unconscientious people—that is, the Cain-realm world—and make an earthly kingdom of heaven in which good people can live well upon this earth.
That does not mean that we intend to eliminate them with weapons. As said earlier, it is to accomplish the ideal world with the weapon of love that loves Cain. Today the communists, centering on Satan, purge countless people, calling them impure elements and reactionary elements. But we seek to make them realize what they did wrong and repent, and to love them and carry out an operation of re-educating them into conscientious people again, and thereby form a bond of brotherhood closer than anyone’s. Doing this is the idealism of the Unification Church.
The han of parting from love must be resolved beginning from the individual
For whom does it seem I am doing such work?
Does it seem I am doing it for my own sake? No. I am doing it for you and for humankind. Then for whose sake does a person who says he will go cheerfully for the sake of the will go cheerfully? Is it for the sake of Teacher Moon of the Unification Church? Or for the sake of you yourselves? It is neither. One must say one will go cheerfully, placing hope in the nation.
The han (恨) of parting (離) from love must be resolved beginning with the individual. Therefore, when you go into your family, you must love your younger siblings and let them know the will. Why? Because Adam, from the position of an elder brother, could not love Eve, who was in the position of a younger sister, one hundred percent, and therefore the han of Eve, who did not receive love, must be resolved. So I tell you to become an elder brother who can love his younger sister.
Next, to resolve the han of a wife who was not loved by her husband, one must become a husband who loves his wife perfectly. Being born a woman is to receive a husband’s love as a wife; and because you as husbands could not love your wives one hundred percent, that han must be resolved.
And centering on parents, let us fulfill the way of filial devotion that could not be rendered centering on God’s love, and become filial children.
Having resolved this han of love, a man must become an appearance who can stand in place of a father, in place of an elder brother, and in place of a younger brother, and furnish the forms of formation, growth, and completion. Then he enters the position of a bridegroom. In this way, the Four Position Foundation is formed, centering on relative relationships.
Likewise, a woman must become an appearance who can stand in place of a mother, in place of an elder sister, in place of a younger sister, and in place of a wife. And thus, she must love in the original position where God wished to love in the original world—that is, in the position where the Four Position Foundation has been accomplished. Only by doing so can a family become one that can be entered directly into the register of the kingdom of Heaven.
Unless such an order of the family is established, the horizontal stage is not formed; and unless that horizontal stage is formed, the kingdom of heaven cannot be accomplished. That is why, to form the horizontal stage, Christianity comes forth centering on the ideal of bridegroom and bride. The position where that is accomplished is a position where love, identical with God’s love, is accomplished.
The position where human love can make a new start centering on heavenly feeling (天情) is precisely the point of purpose humankind hopes for and the position of the mother body that can liberate the misfortune of history. Only in that position can True Parents come about, and true husbands and wives come about, and true brothers and sisters come about. You must know that the love that combines all this is God’s love.
If there is a person who can love the world centering on such love, he is undoubtedly a person furnished with the qualification of a prince or princess of God. Such a person can stand boldly before God. The road that goes with this as its standard is the road the Unification Church walks today, and you must know that going forward in concern and tears, not refusing the road of hardship, to stand at such a standard and to remove the road of han is the sacrificial life of faith of Unification Church members.
Only by standing at such a standard can the kingdom of heaven be accomplished, and you must know that the framework of your happiness too is established from here.
Become the foundation of the ideal realm of unification
That God has toiled for six thousand years in this pit of han is to restore everything that human beings had trampled by the enemy Satan and to fill in the pit of han into level ground and establish God’s kingdom upon that foundation.
That today such an ideology can be furnished with a logical basis cannot but be a worldwide revolution. Accordingly, you must take part in the ranks gathered centering on such an ideology and join hand in hand and unite in a bond of brotherhood transcending peoples and transcending races.
A single realm of the ideal of unification, in which a bond by which Easterners can long for Westerners and Westerners can long for Easterners can cross back and forth over the globe and in which the ancestors of the ages of history and the descendants of today can cross over the heavenly bond and harmonize with one another in the present reality, cannot be accomplished except upon this foundation.
Knowing clearly the fact that through this foundation all grievances can be resolved and accomplished, you must become people who build such a foundation. If there is anyone among you who truly wishes to become such a person, raise your hand.
I am not trying to make you into minnows. I bear the solemn mission of having to make you into princes and princesses who can inherit the palace of the kingdom of Heaven. That is why I must put forward onto the road of death those who offer all devotion and all loyalty toward the will. That is heavenly law, and it is the highest road by which fallen human beings can receive God’s love. You must understand the painful heart of a teacher who, because he knows this, cannot but drive you out.
I, too, must stand in a position of having perfectly loved the enemy. I must love this world, which did not love the archangel, and must love the nation, and must love the people, and must love the clan, and must love the family, and must love the individual.
That I have taken care until now lest my body be harmed was because I feared I might be harmed first, before the stage of an environment in which I can love this whole world unfolds. That is why you must know that I have been living a desolate life in which I cannot but come forth while hiding myself and not appearing in official settings, looking toward that time. I am walking this road with the self-confidence that, on the day I collapse on this road of the will, who would love this world and love the will more than I?
Because I have a heavenly mission of having to plant upon this earth, from such a position, the flag of having loved the people and loved the nation and the world; I must remain until that day. And the secret method of being able to remain is that one must not confront and fight. Thinking that only the road of enduring is the secret method, I have come on until now in the appearance of a spineless creature.
Because I knew that the will was solemn, I could not reveal it carelessly. You must know that because I knew clearly that if one makes a mistake even once and departs from the heavenly law, it cannot be set right even after a hundred million years pass, I have been overcoming the cross and all the difficulties I must bear until now.
Knowing such things, you must inherit this teacher’s traditional thought and, even if I die, leave this tradition to your descendants. What I am concerned about is not how to leave the name of the Unification Church to later generations, but how to leave to later generations people who have inherited my tradition. That is why I have been educating you until now to regard tradition as important.
Knowing that, you must become members of the Unification Church who, before I try to cross the thirty-eighth parallel, prepare yourselves to cross back and forth over the thirty-eighth parallel even while cutting down your hours of sleep. Yet it is a question how many such members there will be. Not only that, but it is also a question how many will be people who will transcend peoples and cross national borders and sacrifice their whole lives to save that nation and that people. When the number of such members extends out in all four directions, the Unification Church will naturally furnish a worldwide foundation of victory and will be able to build a kingdom of peace upon this globe.
Therefore, when graves arise of people who feel the precious value of having taken part in such ranks and who, with infinite pride, go mad with loving God and loving the world, giving all their flesh and blood and shedding tears because they want to give still more, God will seek to bequeath everything from all the thrones of the heavenly world to the created world He made, even before those graves.
Knowing such content and going forward, one prospers even in defeat, and you must know that even in dying, a value beyond being alive is bestowed. The words of the Bible, “He who seeks to die shall live, and he who seeks to live shall die,” hold in this sense too.
Therefore, you too must know that only by walking such a road can you fill in the pit of the han (恨) of parting (離) from love and accomplish a unified world, that is, a free kingdom of heaven of happiness.
