Former Headquarters Church, Korea
Today’s unmarried young men and women intend, if they become fine people in the future, to establish a good family and become the parents of that family.
Therefore, the husband as a husband, the wife as a wife, the man as a man, and the woman as a woman each demand an excellent partner. Why is that? It is because they feel that they themselves are lacking. While feeling this, at the same time they want fine sons and daughters. How good would it be if one could supplement one’s own deficient side through one’s partner and thereby become better? They want to hold such things tightly, deep within the bosom, and to love. Is that really so, or not? Is that good or not? “It is good.”
Man and Woman, the Creator’s Supreme Masterpiece
Now, when you have graduated from university and reached the age to be married, if you know the world to some degree, there will be nothing to fear.
Men are not like this, but women, if there is a photograph among their pictures that they consider to have come out really well, select it and keep it. And they treasure it. So when they reach the age of marriage and send a photograph to a man, that is the photograph they send. It is the same as giving one’s own character. If you were to send a photograph, what kind of photograph would you send? What kind of photograph do you send?
There is no need to educate you about that. Is there a need to educate you, or not? “There is not.” It is absolutely unnecessary. The best thing is to keep it well and send it when it is needed. Is that so, or not? That is how it is. What about men? Are Unification Church men not like that? “Yes.” That is how it is. A photograph that comes out better than one’s actual self is coveted, and a photograph that comes out worse than one’s actual self is rejected. To covet what can make oneself better and to reject what can make oneself worse is the principle of heaven and earth. Do you understand?
What resembles oneself and is better looking than oneself is coveted, and what does not resemble oneself is rejected. Good things are coveted, and bad things are removed. Furthermore, what brings profit is welcomed, and what brings loss is disliked. It is simple. The human mind is like that.
Why do people always want to be good?
Because what is good enables one to become well-rounded. If things are good on all four sides, one comes to resemble some splendid form. Would it not be so? No matter how fine you may be, if the environment to which you belong is wretched, that form becomes distorted. Wishing for whatever is helpful and wishing to be better, that itself is profit. This is so when we look at the face centering on a person, and it is the same when we look at the economic problem.
If people are like this, then what about God?
Does God exist, or does He not? We do not know, but does it seem He might exist? Then let us analyze once more this person called “I.” Let us analyze whether God exists or not.
If you quietly analyze a human being, he is very strangely made. Think about it. If the eyes blink, one is alive. But if those eyes do not blink of themselves, this goes into the rubbish bin. Is that so, or not? No matter how much you boast about your eyes, what would happen on the day your eyes did not blink? And what would happen if the eyes were square? It would be a disaster.
How is it that the eyes are made oval like this?
When you move your face, the pupils cannot stay in the center. The more you move your face, the more they are made so that they absolutely cannot remain in the center. It is really well made. Look quietly at the nose too. What if it were attached somewhere else, or what if the nostrils were opened upward? Think about it. And why is this ear made like the rim of a sieve? It is so that one may hear sound well. It is really well made. Look at the mouth too.
What would happen if it were attached to the fingertips or somewhere else?
How well made is this? When you pick the face apart this way and that, how scientifically is it made? It is scientific in the highest degree. All four limbs and the whole body are entirely like that.
In this way we human beings are made splendidly and scientifically. Therefore, if women laugh, saying, “What kind of man looks like that?” or if a man, on seeing women, says, “That woman has big buttocks; what does she look like?” they will be punished. No matter how ugly they may be, that woman and that man are the Creator’s supreme masterpiece.
The Person Who Will Receive Blessing
Then what kind of person in the world receives blessing?
If there is a museum director, of course there will be many works in that museum made by fine people of the past; but when there is a work made by the museum director himself and someone else praises it, saying, “My, that is really well made,” that museum director will feel better than at hearing any praise about the museum itself. When some couples who have come together are moved by his work and, while praising it, say they would like to have that work, what will the person who made that work do? “He will ask them to take it.” That is how it is. Why is that? “Because they praise him.” What does it mean to praise? It means that they have entered the domain in which they can become one with him. Centering on that work, they can become one with him and can resemble him. Therefore, it is good.
What kind of person is the one who will receive the greatest blessing in the world? I will teach you the way to receive blessings. You need a blessing, do you not? The Teacher too dislikes being punished, and you dislike it too, do you not? “Yes.”
Would it do for our Unification Church to be punished?
We must receive a blessing. What kind of person is the one who will receive the blessing? It is the person who loves God’s supreme masterpiece most highly. Do you understand?
What kind of person must the one who will receive blessing be? “A person who loves God’s masterpiece most highly.” God cannot treat coldly a person who loves His supreme masterpiece most highly. Even if one merely sits still and only praises and only delights in it, would God appear and say, “My, is it really so?” or would He not? It is the same as with the museum director spoken of above. That person can surely become completely one with him in loving, centering on his work. Therefore, the way to receive blessing is the way of loving God’s supreme masterpiece.
Then what is the supreme masterpiece?
It is the human being. If you were to look at a monkey and ask what the supreme masterpiece created by God is, the monkeys would say it is themselves. But no matter how much the monkey says it is himself, when we look at the whole, the monkey cannot be above the human being. Why? Monkeys speak among themselves, but they cannot speak the superior speech of human beings. And no matter how many talents they are said to have, they do not know the spiritual world. Seeing such things, what is the supreme masterpiece among all the things God created? It is the human being. Who among human beings? It is man and woman.
When a person is born and lives, whom must he love as he lives?
He must love human beings. But a man does not love only men. A man can love a woman more. Can a man love a man more, or can he love a woman more? Speak. “A man can love a woman more.”
Then what about a woman? A woman can love a man more. But when three of the characters 女 are gathered, what character does it become? It becomes the character for wickedness, 姦. Therefore, women are devious.
If only three gather in one room, a fight breaks out before two days have passed. I have often heard women who are themselves women say, “Women bring bad luck; it will not do.” When women of about high school age meet and talk together, have you seen women who say, “My, I am a woman too, but women do not follow me. The girls at our school are so nice. It would be good if there were only women and no men”? Have you seen them?
In the world of women, no matter how great a female general under heaven there may be who can take the place of a man, she is made to need a man. In the world of women, if there were no men, what would women do among themselves? Therefore, God’s supreme masterpiece is man and woman.
The Order of Love
Then, in loving people, what is the order?
From where does one begin to love? All of you, think about how it is. Do we love our parents? By no means. Parents love their children, but is a child’s loving his parents real love? That is living because it is pleasant. Real love is loving with the whole body united, with the heart (심정) and the bloodline all united. Who are the people who can love in this way? Husband and wife. If it were a world without husband and wife, would there be any savor in living?
Then who is the person who can be closest to God?
It is the person who loves God’s supreme masterpiece. And that supreme masterpiece is man and woman. Man is God’s masterpiece, and woman is God’s masterpiece; then where is the original starting point from which this masterpiece can be loved? Do we say that we love our parents, or that we receive our parents’ love? “We say we receive it.” You received your parents’ love in abundance, but have you seen sons and daughters who loved their parents? We say we receive our parents’ love; we do not say we love them. Did you love them? You cannot love them. Far from loving them, you have been sucking your parents’ blood and flesh. Until now you have been eating what you stole. While attending school, you say to your parents, “Mother, money for me! Father, money for me!” But are parents servants? Is making your parents serve like that love?
What is love?
Love is something one enters, staking the Cosmos upon it. You made your parents serve you; what love did you ever love with? Do you receive love, or do you give it? “We receive it.” One receives love; one does not give it. Then, having been born a human being, from where does one begin to love? Where is the one way of receiving blessing?
If loving the supreme masterpiece God created is the way to receive blessing, from where must one begin to love? It is because of this that one receives the Blessing.
From where does love set out?
It sets out from perfecting one’s individuality. Seen from the Principle, one is meant to love after having perfected one’s individuality. Only when one has passed through adolescence, qualified to face the opposite sex, come into accord with the harmony of heaven and earth, and become able to bear the responsibility that allows one to pass through, does the relationship of love at last begin.
But for Adam and Eve, it was not so. What kind of love was their love? It was not love in a position that could unify all the things of heaven and earth. It was not a subject love. Their love had to be subject and inevitable. But did they love an inevitable love, or could they not? They could not. Therefore, today’s humankind are the descendants of people who never once loved such a love.
The word love exists, but people do not know the ideal world of true love. When, in such an ideal world, one center is prepared through which people can love one another centering on God, only then does God enter here and love.
In other words, when God sees the people who are His supreme masterpiece loving one another, He cannot help but love. That one can, from such a position, form the relationship of love as God’s son or daughter is the Blessing of the Unification Church today. Do you understand? “Yes.” Do you know why the Teacher says such things? It is because you are all young men and women in adolescence.
What kind of road is the road by which a person receives blessing?
It is the road of following the normal principles and rules and loving the human being, who is God’s supreme masterpiece. Then there is an order of love; from where is it? It begins not from the child but from receiving love from one’s parents.
What is the most flower-like period, the season of youth in full bloom?
It is the period of adolescence. That period is precisely the seven years from the age of eighteen. These seven years are the period when the flower of a flower-like love, which comes but once in a lifetime, will bloom. How precious is this flower-like season that comes only once? That is why the Teacher speaks of this.
All of you know the peony, do you not?
In its flower bud there is a distinctive yellow blossom, is there not? Of how many layers is it made? It is all tightly wrapped up in petals. Can you tear it open? It is wrapped so tightly that it cannot easily be torn open. Man and woman are the same in this way. Your crimson love, that bud of love like a yellow flower, at what time will you make that bud of love bloom fully? That season is the time when beauty is most fully revealed within the harmony of heaven and earth. Seen from the human standpoint as well, it is the time of fullest bloom. It is the period when, having become God’s masterpiece, one sparkles as the crystallization at the very center. Would it not be so?
The most flower-like season in growing up, the most beautiful season, is the season of youth. The appearance of that season of youth is the supreme flower bud. If there is a person who can love that with all his being, that person can be invited into God’s inner chamber. Do you understand what this means? Do you understand such love? A man and a woman who can love in that way can receive God’s blessing and can be invited into God’s inner chamber. Then can you do that now? If you have understood that, then you, if you are a man, must make such preparation as a man.
The Principle of the Four Position Foundation
Then for what reason do you yourselves receive your parents’ love?
It is because the motive by which your father and mother, as husband and wife, rely on each other and love each other has come about through you. Do you understand? Therefore, centering on that motive, the love with which brothers and sisters love one another will not change.
When, centering on that, we regard our neighbor as our body and live accordingly, a right social environment unfolds. Looking at it centering on the family, that family is formation, society is growth, and the nation is completion. One must necessarily pass through such a course. Family and family must all be gathered. Only then does love unfold within it. And thus it is joined into one even within the scope of the nation. Here society is divided into many strata. In a company, there is a representative called the president [?: 시장], is there not? Is that not so?
How many people are responsible for the nation now?
One, is it not? There comes to be one person responsible. In this way the form is unified, and only the shape grows larger. To be divided in this way and yet be one is the principle of the Four Position Foundation.
To love the nation, what must one love first?
To love the nation, a man must first become one who can know and love one woman as the representative woman of this nation. Do you understand? If a woman, then among women; if a man, then among men, one should know and love that person as the most representative one.
In loving the nation, in loving some workplace in society, in loving among fellow companions, or in loving on some individual course, all of that loving is for the sake of raising one complete man, that is, for the sake of raising one complete man who will be the protagonist of love.
When a woman loves a man, she must love him knowing him as a man who represents thirty million people. When a man and a woman who stand in the position of representatives in this way join and form a family, this family becomes a family of the Kingdom of Heaven.
If a beautiful man and woman created as God’s supreme masterpiece can love centering on God, that is the supreme love, a transcendent love, not a worldly love.
That love is the most beautiful, the representative love among loves, a love that can shine eternally. And the place where such love is realized is the family.
The position in which you have formed your relationship is, in your whole lifetime, no more than an instant. Because you are now in a time like a flower bud, a time when you can live a flower-like life, you must henceforth establish your position from this angle, and further, you must make every preparation to love the human being who was created as the one supreme masterpiece.
Your receiving education now is also for that. Therefore, you must pave the road you are to walk from now on, holding the thought that what you are preparing now is prepared to shine worldwide and cosmically.
Furthermore, as a husband and wife whom God cannot help but love, you must be able to say that hereafter you will become people who love God eternally in this nation and will leave behind descendants who can love God’s masterpiece. Only then is the Four Position Foundation, in which God’s purpose of creation is completed, achieved. It is such education that I am giving you.
The Origin of True Love
Until now this world has been entirely a confused world. It is a world where each lives as he pleases. In loving God’s masterpiece, people do not love in a pure sense. Here they all interpose true content and form the relationship of love. Such a world must all be removed. It must all be set in order.
Whom has God loved from six thousand years ago?
He has loved human beings. In loving human beings, would He have loved man and woman separately? Can God love separately as much as He likes? If it is said that God can love separately as much as He likes, would He have loved them equally in the true sense?
If you were to ask God about that, what would God answer?
Because man and woman are two, He cannot love them equally. Is that not so? When God loves human beings, has He been able to love equally, fairly, evenly, without objection, without error? He has not been able to. When the words “man” and “woman” are brought forward, He has not been able to love. Could He have loved? Because they are two, He could not love them equally.
Then what kind of position is the position where He can love equally?
The position where He can love completely equally is the position where the two have become one. When we love in such a position, God can love completely equally. Such a position is precisely the position of receiving blessing. Only when anyone stands in a position where they can love one another as God’s supreme masterpiece can God love them completely equally.
Where does the origin of unified love centering on God’s love arise?
Originally, Adam and Eve, without falling, were to have grown and gone forward to a position where they could take hold of God’s love, embracing all the things of heaven and earth in their bosom, their hearts overflowing with happiness, overflowing with hope for tomorrow, lacking nothing to love all the eternal ages of the future. Only when Adam and Eve advanced to such a position would the origin of true love arise, through which they could become one, centering on God’s love.
Otherwise, the origin of unified love does not arise. Do you understand what this means? Such words are not even in the Principle.
The reason all created things were made reciprocally is to enable them to receive God’s true love. It is to enable them to receive the only love. That is why they were made reciprocally. Do you understand?
If such a man and such a woman come to a state in which they can perfect God’s love and bind God’s love decisively to themselves, if they clearly stand in a position where they can share love from the same standpoint, they become an ideal husband and wife. Do you understand? Seen from that viewpoint, what is the conclusion of maidens going to university to become graduates? It is to obtain a good bridegroom. There is nothing else besides that. And no matter how splendid a man may have become, if his family is a family that is not one, he is an unhappy man. You will certainly feel this fact.
The Reason the Unification Church Was Founded
But upon this earth there is no family in which one supreme man and one woman have joined, a family that, as one masterpiece, God can take hold of and love abundantly. Therefore, for you to restore the whole, you must form such a family. This is the way to receive blessings.
All of you, if you receive a blessing, are you unhappy or happy? “Happy.” But such a standard has not yet appeared in history. The reason the Teacher has appeared today and founded the Unification Church is to establish this standard. Therefore, the problem is how to connect with that standard. Seen from this point, what Jesus hoped for was not only to perfect himself as an individual.
The Apostle Paul said, “There is none righteous, no, not one.”
That is a statement that denies even himself. The word righteous is a word that cannot be established when one is alone. The moment one says righteous, it is a word that requires two or more persons to be established. Therefore, a righteous person needs two or more witnesses and must be attested by them.
Then what is righteousness?
In what position is it established?
It is established in a position where two can be completely unified. A position that divides along the way is one where righteousness is not established. Righteousness is eternal. Therefore, righteousness exists eternally within love.
Seeing such things, God desires that young men and women in adolescence form such a relationship of love. Therefore, you must devote every sincerity and prepare for that one moment when you can move and appear before God, who desires this. Before Heaven, which has long awaited the accomplishment of the purpose of creation, will not everything God has desired be resolved and accomplished by manifesting, through the thousands of years of the history of indemnity carried out according to heavenly law (천륜), a perfect individual, one husband, such a family?
When you consider that such a solemn task is resolved within yourself, you must know that if you resolve this here, you become a victor in cosmic history. Do you understand, or do you not? “We understand.”
Among the young men here, there will be those who swagger about as they please, roaming the streets looking for women. Seen through the Bible or the words of the Principle today, is there any man who could pass here? Is there, or is there not? “There is not.” There is not. This is a result brought about by the Fall, so now a new order must be established. Therefore, our mission is to settle the whole world anew, centering on the principle. Do you understand? “Yes.” Therefore, now a man, in loving a woman centering on God’s love, must stand in a position where he can say, “I loved completely. From beginning to end I loved with a love that will never change eternally.” Do you understand? “Yes.” And a woman, to stand in such a position, must seal her body up tightly.
Just as a peony has countless petals wrapped layer upon layer, she must bury it tightly. And thus, meeting the harmony of heaven and earth called the season of spring, she must harmonize with it and set out on a new life. This must be done well. Do you understand?
The name Maiden is a good one, is it not? What do we call a man? Do we call him cheonam (처남)?
We call him dongnam (동남, 童男), do we not?
Since he is called dongnam, the young men are pleased, are they not? What does the character cheo (處) in the word maiden (처녀) mean? It means a place, that is, a location, does it not? A woman of a place. Is she a woman of a fallen place? “No.” Is she a woman of a place recognized by the universe? What is that place? It means the place of becoming a wife and a mother.
It is difficult to become a husband and to become a parent. Do you understand? The sons and daughters to be born hereafter are not one’s own sons and daughters alone. They are sons and daughters born through parents. At that time, will you love your children? Will you love your children or not? “We will love them.” But even so, you must not love your children more than your wife. Do you understand? All of you, when you watch a film, do the protagonists die because of love or because of their children? “They die because of love.” Naturally it is so. A person who has a wife whom he must love more than his children must first receive his wife’s consent, whether it is all right to love the children, and then love the children. Each must live, adding such value to the other.
As we enter the latter half of the twentieth century, why has the problem of youth become like this?
It is because there is no love for children at all. But if you look behind how it has become so, it is that the parents are all living as they please. So the children are all passing their time in the streets or in dance halls doing all sorts of things. And in the end, they come to be in a miserable position. Therefore, let us take responsibility in our age and resolve all these problems of the world. You must clearly know the fact that you must shoulder this important responsibility. Do you understand? “Yes.”
The Position Where One Can Become One
Human beings must go forward following the principles and rules. When spring comes, one sows the seed; when summer comes, it grows luxuriant; when autumn comes, one meets the fruit; and when winter comes, one puts everything in order and must hold within one’s inner heart the source of new life.
Only then, when spring is met again, does this become a seed that can be planted once more. What this means is that hereafter you must become parents and give birth to sons and daughters like yourselves. Do you understand? “Yes.” It means you must raise your sons and daughters as you yourselves were raised.
Then, having been born a woman, what must she do?
She must receive a husband, live centering on him, and also make him happy. And she must raise her sons and daughters happily in her bosom. Likewise, the husband too must make happy the wife and the sons and daughters who are within his domain. That is how it is made. You will feel this keenly when you are married. Is that so, or not? “It is so.” When you go and see, you will know. A fine woman, when she is married, is loved by her husband. You have heard such words, have you not? It is because the man is the center. But when you look at the women of the world, they go out and do all sorts of things, and when the husband comes in, they put on a false cap as though they had not. Their mind and body differ from each other.
Body and mind must be in accord. Body and mind must become one. Talk like this could not be finished in several days. Then when do body and mind become completely one? When do they become one? Men, answer. All of you, in the body there are nerves, and there are blood vessels, are there not? These are of a double structure, like the relationship of mind and body. No matter how well the blood flows in the blood vessels of your body, what happens if the nerves behind them are not connected? Paralysis occurs. It becomes a state of paralysis, and it is all the same whether it is there or not. Therefore, the two must give and receive completely.
At what time does this become completely one?
You must know from where the vertical force that can carry out give-and-take action comes. Yes, that is right. Then what is the most central thing in a person’s body? It is the heart (심장). While there is a heart, there is also a mind, is there not? The heart and the mind are different, are they not? “Yes.” What does that mind bear witness to? Where is the center of a person? “The mind.” The center of the body is the heart, and the center of the person is the mind, is it not? Is that not so? Therefore, these must become completely one.
If the mind departs, the heart dies. These must be able to become one. Do you understand? “Yes.” Will becoming one mean becoming one by splitting into two? Or will it be becoming one by becoming one? “They must become one.” Mind and body must become one.
And that which can become one most closely is love. And the place where love can move is the position of complete oneness. This is the highest position to which the mind can go, the highest position to which the body can go, the highest position where the heart (심정) can dwell. In a position where all of these can be joined at once, the relationship of love is formed. Love is realized in such a position.
When maidens and young men of adolescence like yourselves meet one another and talk, the breast pounds. It pounds, does it not? Does it pound, or does it not? You do not know? If I say it pounds, will you say it does not? “It pounds.” There, you see. You become excited, do you not? And when you become excited, a change comes to the heart. But if that mind does not center on God and stands in the opposite position, it becomes evil. Whom does the mind center on? God. What enables one to rise to a position where the mind that centers on God and the heart can become one is love. Do you understand what this means? Because a human being must pass a whole lifetime in such a position, a human being cannot do without an ideal and a hope centered on love.
And what can shine in the final position is love. Unconscionable love is not love. You do not know now what that means, but when you are married, you will come to know.
All of you, do you know the three points? Three points. The point where these three can become one is the position where God and Adam and Eve can become one. The position where God can become one with Adam and Eve is the position where their mind and body are in accord. It is the same with the heart (심장) and the heart (심정).
The Meaning and Origin (起源) of Cosmos-ism
Then what kind of position is the position where a perfected person, that is, a perfected man and woman, comes to be?
It is a position where, centering on Heaven’s public Will, one can receive God’s love, where mind and body become completely one, and one can attend God as the subject. When one comes to be in such a position, one stands in the position of a perfected Adam and Eve. That such people form a family and set out is a historic departure. This is the first departure from a historic course of life. Adam and Eve should have achieved such a position, but because they fell, they could not achieve it. So today you must seek and go this road to restore this.
The Teacher is now telling you from a Principle viewpoint what love is like; is he telling you to become like this or telling you not to become like this? “To become like this.” In mind and body, the mind centers on Heaven and the body centers on the world; when such a mind and body are said to have become one, what is his ideology called? It is called the ideology of Cosmos-ism.
Do you know what Cosmos-ism is?
Cosmos-ism is the ism that goes about achieving a position where heaven and earth, that is, the formless world and the substantial world, become one body.
Then, to have dominion over this Cosmos, would it do for the person who wishes to have dominion not to have mind and body as one body? “It would not do.”
If they do not become one body, one perishes here. And when mind and body become one body, centering on God, God is the internal God, and oneself becomes the external God. Is that not so? And centering on what does one become? One becomes one, centering on love.
Then from whom does the origin of Cosmos-ism begin?
From oneself. Therefore, when one has not become such a self, one must make oneself so. You must remember this well. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve roamed about as they pleased and fell, did they not? All of you, since one falls in the streets, absolutely do not fall into that. Do you understand?
Since you are in adolescence, if you go forward centering on God for just seven years, you can rise treading upon the world. If one can bind to one’s own person God’s love, which makes that possible, how happy is that? Is this unhappy or happy? “It is happy.” It is happy. If you enter into that love of God, will not everything of God’s be your own?
You must not fall as Adam and Eve did. At what age did Adam and Eve fall? At what age did they fall? At nineteen? They fell at the full age of sixteen. They fell before they had even reached adolescence. They formed a relationship within the domain of imperfect love, and the maiden and the young man loved. In Korea in the old days, girls used to be married at the age of thirteen. Was that not so? That such a custom arose in Korea, seen providentially, is only natural. Such a custom appeared conspicuously at the end of the Yi dynasty. Only when such a time has passed does a new age come.
Are you now made able to love as you please, or not?
Are you made to follow when a man whistles at you in the street, or not? “We are not.” You are made to follow like that, are you not? You must not have such a disposition. You must protect your body well until the time comes. You must not entrust your pure heart to a goblin-like man. The men who swagger about the streets aimlessly are all goblins. Would you entrust your destiny to such a man? Have you thought about it? This is not a simple problem. Because it comes only once in a lifetime, on the day you set one foot wrong, your whole life hangs in the balance. Is that not so? This is so for men as well. Therefore, until now women have been told to keep their fidelity, but hereafter men too must keep their fidelity. Only then can restoration take place, can it not? No matter how evil the world may be and no matter how harsh the world may be, you must not act in a way that deviates from the normal road you are to go. Do you understand? “Yes.”
What Kind of Place Is the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth
All of you, is Cosmos-ism good or bad? “It is good.”
You must like Cosmos-ism at all times, by night and by day. When that Cosmos-ism is realized, whom will the world resemble? “God.” It becomes a world that resembles God and centers on God’s love. When subject and object give and receive completely, centering on God’s love, the object goes to the position of the subject, and the subject comes to the position of the object. That is, when one becomes completely one, centering on God’s love, God’s love appears in one’s life and appears within oneself as well. Is that not so? The world in which God’s love appears inside and out—what is it? It is the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. It is simple. Thus God’s love appears inside and out in the whole family, and further in the whole society and the whole world.
What kind of place is the Kingdom of Heaven on earth?
What kind of place is the position where God and oneself become one?
It is a place where God’s love appears in the environment just as it is. Then whom does that world resemble? At the same time as resembling God, whom must it resemble? It must resemble the human being. It is good when it resembles oneself. Is that not so? “Yes.” Whom did you come here to resemble? “To resemble True Father.” Who is True Father? True Father too came, saying he would resemble you. It must be done that way. Only then does one become completely one. Is that not so?
What happens if only you resemble True Father?
It means there can be no give and take. Since True Father too must resemble you, you are absolutely necessary. Therefore, True Father too came here to resemble you. That is why we have gathered. Do you understand? “Yes.” But has it become so, or has it not? “It has.” What? Has it, or has it not? Say it clearly. It has not, has it? Because it has not, “We intend to make it so.” So you came here to make it so.
Then what must be done for it to become so? It is simple. Since True Father loves his sons and daughters, you too need only love your sons and daughters. So you came here to learn to love your sons and daughters. You came to learn it and to show it hereafter.
Since the time has not yet come when you can show it to others, you came to learn it and surely show it hereafter. When that time comes, do you have the confidence that you will surely show it? Do you, or do you not? “We do.” Those who are confident, raise your hands. Oh! This will be a disaster. Korea will perish at once.
The center that can give and receive completely is centering on God is only one.
Because there cannot be two centers, true parents also set out from one, and a true family also sets out from one. Likewise, a true people, a true nation, and a true world also set out from one and end as one. From the family to the world, everything separates and then ends as one. It is only that the scope is larger. And nearly forty billion cells combine to form one person. One person made in this way is composed of dual characteristics. Everything is included within that. If you add all this together, it can stand in place of the universe, one individual that represents infinity.
All of you, do you love your hands?
Do you love them, or do you not? “We love them.” Whom do the hands resemble? You doubt that you did not exist until you were born from your parents; you acknowledge only your present self. You all now acknowledge it unconditionally. So whom do the hands resemble? “They resemble me.” And whom do the eyes, nose, and ears resemble? “They resemble me.” And the whole body and all four limbs? “They resemble me.” Is there even one among them that you hate? “There is not.” There is not, is there? You make a great fuss lest even one small finger be hurt, crying, Ouch! lest it be broken, lest it be damaged. Is that not so? “Yes.” Whom does the woman resemble? “She resembles me.” And the man? “He resembles me.”
The more one loves oneself, why is that good? Have you found out? “Because ‘I’ am the masterpiece of God’s labor.” Those words are right too. Why does one want to become the foremost person and to be in the highest position? “Because anyone wants to be a representative.” It is elementary. It is because anyone can hold a reciprocal position regarding God’s love. Do you understand? Gapdol as Gapdol, Bokdol as Bokdol, and Eulsun as Eulsun each exist as he or she pleases, but there is only one center. Centering on this one center, all humankind revolves.
Because there is a way to form a relationship if one revolves around this one center, when one centers on this, a reciprocal world appears here. Is that not so? That is, if God and I become one, this world forms a reciprocal world centering on me. All three point six billion of humankind are forming relationships from this standpoint. Therefore, whoever it may be, because each is a reciprocal substantial being of God’s love, each possesses infinite value. So would it do for anyone to be treated carelessly?
Parental Love and Love Among Siblings
Your appearance may look shabby when seen externally, but in the Kingdom of Heaven you are sons born as noble children.
However crippled one may be, the heart (심정) of heaven and earth has its origin in oneself. Oneself is the standard.
If some parent who has ten sons and a hundred units of love were to say, “You are the eldest son, so I will give you fifty; you are the younger son, so I will give you twenty. Next, the younger brother, ten; and you are the very last, so take one.”
Would the youngest be pleased? He would not be pleased. He would probably stab his mother and father to death with a knife and run away. That is how it would be. But if there are ten sons, the parents’ mind toward those ten sons regards them all as equally precious.
In kissing their children, do parents kiss the elder brother actively and the younger brother passively, with a difference?
Would it be so, or would it not? “It would not.” The further down toward the younger ones, the more active it is. Then when a mother kisses a nursing baby like that, do the brothers and sisters look on and say a stepmother has come? Do they say a stepmother has come? It is not so. Because it is a place where parental love appears, only one who can see such a thing and know how to love from the parents’ position can go to a position closer to the parents. On seeing a younger sibling nursing, one must not say, “Ugh, it smells of milk; I feel bad.” Did you not also grow up drinking your mother’s milk?
Even if parents have ten sons, they worry more about the young son than about the older son. Is that not so? “Yes.” Therefore, centering on parental love, it is equal. So can a younger brother facing such parents insist like a child that he be raised as much as the elder brother, or can he not? “He cannot.” Can he say that he must be loved as much as the elder brother, or can he not? “He cannot.” Can he not say that he must be loved as much as the elder brother? Does it mean that a younger brother cannot think of his elder brother? Then the younger brother would be pitiful. Before your parents, who are you?
When your parents suffer somewhere until their backs break and buy something, you are keenly aware of it inside and out, are you not? Your parents treat you with a deduction to the extent that you understand. Yet, having no understanding, you complain that your parents buy only big things for the younger sibling, do you not? When siblings are more or less alike, and the parents love them differently, they sulk.
If the parents frequently buy things only for the younger one, the elder vents his anger on the younger to see the mind of that mother and father. Here, the elder brother’s love for the younger brother must be such that, because he too received such love in the past, he says it is good that his parents love the younger brother. Centering on love, it is so.
The “I” That Holds Cosmic-Historical Value
Then why must you regard yourselves as important? Why are you precious?
Jesus said, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Matt. 16:26)”
Seeing this, only one can center on God’s love and manifest God’s love. What can manifest God’s infinite love, make God’s love into an ideology, and give definite form to God’s love is oneself. Therefore, one holds cosmic-historical value. That is why the “I” comes to be regarded as important. Do you understand? If there is a person who truly experiences such things in the course of his life and lives accordingly, that person will surely go to the Kingdom of Heaven. The words are difficult; do you understand? “Yes.”
You men here, do you want to become president of the world, or do you not? “We want to.” Those who have a mind that it would be good to become such, raise your hands. A person who does not have such a mind will die. You all have such a mind. Then with what will you become so? Will you become so with your fists? Will you become so with your head? It is a privilege that all people desire; with what can one become so? Standing in the position of a son or daughter centering on God, can one become so with God’s love, or can one not? “One can.”
To say, “What the elder brother likes, the elder brother will do; I am the younger brother, so I need only do this much,” would that do? Then, because it is work the elder brother likes, may the younger brother be abandoned? No. It is the business of one household. However great this universe may be, it is the business of one household. From that viewpoint, hereafter the world must all form one world and so become one household.
All of you, which is better, president of the world or God’s love?
“God’s love is better.” God’s love is more splendid than the president of the world. Only by treading upon this position and rising can the world be unified into one. Only by treading upon and passing over this fortune of unification does God’s love sprout. Therefore, everyone, without exception, tries to tread upon this and pass over. You must all pass over this. Only by becoming qualified to pass over this can you form a relationship with God’s love. And only then do you all become the supreme figures in the world.
Who among them is the supreme figure? How do you and Jesus compare?
If you want to become the supreme figure, you must be better than Jesus. If Jesus goes before God, what is there to prevent you from going before God? But are you better than Jesus, or worse? That can be known only by measuring.
If you become people who receive God’s love more than Jesus, Jesus comes afterward. Because we are in such a position, today we seek, centering on such privileged conditions, to reveal ourselves as beings of infinite value. Do you understand? “Yes.” For you, such things are common sense.
People like what resembles themselves. Whom does the world resemble?
Whom must the ideal world hereafter resemble? It must resemble God. Then how did God create when He created heaven and earth? What does Genesis 1:27 say? It says, “So God created man in his image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” In whose image did He create, you say? “In God’s image.” Whom were you made to resemble, you say? “To resemble God.” In the end, since we like what resembles ourselves, God likes it that we resemble God. Therefore God, having made all the things of heaven and earth, looks upon what has come to resemble Him and rejoices.
All the things of heaven and earth resemble God. Whom do all things resemble, you say? All things have come to resemble God symbolically. And human beings? They have come to resemble God in image. And God? God is the substance itself. Centering on this substance, human beings must come to resemble Him in image, and all things must come to resemble Him symbolically. If God made them, it must be so. When we consider the question of whom something resembles, it is that it has come to resemble its partner.
What of God Must We Resemble
Then, in resembling, from where must we resemble Him?
Have you thought about this?
God exists, centering on God’s law, as one who is eternal love, omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. God is omniscient and omnipotent, omnipresent, and eternal; from where must we resemble Him? If we resemble God, what must we become?
If God is eternal, we too must be eternal; if God is omnipresent, we too must be omnipresent. That is why you want to go and live anywhere in the world, is it not? Is that not so? You want to hold the whole world at once with omniscient and omnipotent power, do you not? Wanting to do so resembles Him.
Since God is omnipresent, we too want to resemble Him in being omnipresent; since God is omniscient and omnipotent, we too want to be omniscient and omnipotent; since God is unique and without equal, we too wish to be unique and without equal. This is resembling. Is that not so? “Yes.” Because I resemble God, I want to make myself resemble God. I want to govern all under heaven.
Only after becoming so should one be president, should one not? Is that not so? Only then can one do as one wishes. In all of this, more or less alike, we resemble God.
Then what of Himself would God most like us to resemble?
What is the supreme root in resembling, and what is the ancestor? What is better than omnipresence, better than omniscience and omnipotence, better than being unique and without equal? It is love. Even giving away all such things, the one source by which one family can be formed is love.
What is it that most makes one resemble God?
It is love. On the day one resembles that love alone, even if one loses everything, in the end it all comes following wherever one goes. Even if a woman is so ugly as to be worth only three pennies, if she only has love, a young man like a horse follows her.
Why does he follow?
He follows because she is good. What is the good centered upon? In that goodness, love is the issue. Therefore, analyzing at the first level, what will remain as the center of the universe? Is it character? Is it money? Is it power? What is it? “It is love.” Love, love alone. What did you say? Is it love (사랑), or is it death (사망)? “It is love.” Within love there is death. You must think about this deeply and well. Do you understand? Depending on which direction love goes, it can become death, and it can become love. Therefore, what has gone wrong today must be repaired; who must do that work? It is our responsibility to repair and restore what has gone wrong in this world of death.
Then will you become death, or will you become love? “Love.” If we possessed some bundle of love that all people love most, would unification come about, or would it not? “It would.” If we only have this, unification comes about. Among people who have such love, there is the family, there is the clan, there is the people, there is the nation, and there is the world. It is enough if this world too is caught up in it. (Omission)
There it is combined with human love. There will be a passageway of love there. In the giving of blessing, there is that passageway. There must be a separate way of Heaven’s love, of which there is only one. Are there two of that way, or is there one? “There is one.” Therefore, one must follow that one way. Then, if there is one passageway in the air, it would be good if Heaven’s love came through it into one’s mouth, would it not? Everyone would be like that. Far off in that infinite heaven there is a way of love, and one waits with mouth open for that love to fall into one’s mouth; and when it has fallen to oneself, one may also slip quietly into that way. There can be something like that.
Then when will it fall?
Among the countless days of the course of life, when, on what day and at what hour, how many hundreds of years hence will it fall? In that ticking instant, one goes to hell. Is it the tick that is right? Is it the clock that is right? It falls exactly in that instant. When will such a time be? Will there be one, or will there not? “There will be.” This is a moment that is not long. It is not even a day. In that ticking instant there is one moment of joy when heaven and earth can cry out, “My, Mansei!” Will there be such a time, or will there not? “There will be.” The Teacher wants to meet such a moment; what about you?
Mansei Must Be Cried From Within My Mind
Do you want to cry, Mansei, or do you not want to? “We want to.” Do you all want to cry, Mansei? “Yes.” You mean you will only look on? “No.” Those who say they will cry Mansei must be made to cry Mansei. “Mansei.” Mansei, will you do Mansei, or will you cry Mansei? “We will cry it.” Mansei can save one’s brothers. Is that not so? Well then, when you cry “Mansei,” how will you do it? Will you open your eyes wide and shout “Wa!”? How will you do it? “We will do everything.” You will all cry it, will you not? “Yes.” All of you will cry it. You must open your eyes wide and cry a Mansei of complete worldwide victory. So will you do Mansei, or will you cry it? “We will cry it.” Will you become people who do it, or people who do not? “We will become people who do it.” Even the Teacher? “Yes.” Now it is settled. The Teacher wants to believe that you will do so. Is it really so? “Yes.” Let us wait and see.
Will you make others cry, Mansei, or will you do Mansei? “We will make others cry it.” Whom? “The Teacher.” Is it really so? “Yes.” Then where is the place to cry Mansei? “Here.” Where? Where will you go and do it? “Jeongju.” “The Holy Ground.” All wrong. It must be done from within my mind. What is not thought of cannot form a relationship, and there can be nothing that fails to form a relationship where it is thought of.
Centering on what did your bodies stride about as they pleased?
They strode about as they pleased, did they not? Is that not so? Did you do Mansei, or did you not? Did you, or did you not? “We did not.” Did you not? Then how can one who could not do Mansei himself make others cry Mansei? Therefore, the problem comes back to oneself. Only a soldier who has a thoroughgoing ideology can win in battle. Only by crossing into the enemy camp, determined to catch and finish off even the enemy general with one’s own hand, can one cut down even a great multitude with one’s own sword. When such an army becomes a thousand and becomes ten thousand, one can push forward no matter how strong the enemy army may be. It is not broken. However exhausted the body may be, one pushes forward again. Struck ten times, one advances; struck a hundred times, one advances; struck a thousand times, one can still advance. One must become an army that can attack a thousand times and ten thousand times.
In the course of six thousand years of history until now, our countless ancestors departed, leaving behind the sorrow of the defeated. When we look back on history, every one of those ancestors was ruined in a single battle and fell away. But we must fight twice, fight three times, a hundred times, a thousand times, ten thousand times, colliding and fighting continually. Even colliding a thousand and ten thousand times, we must hold the confidence that in conviction we can be victorious. We must be in a position more cosmic and more transcendent, a greater position, than the ideology our enemy pursues. Without that, we cannot cry an eternal Mansei by an eternal victory.
In the end, who is the problem?
One is the problem. “I” am “I,” but what kind of “I”? Rather than being victorious yourself first, or prospering, you must hold such absolute conviction. And so you must cry Mansei. Then you said you would make the Teacher cry Mansei, did you not? “Yes.” For that, you must have stronger conviction than the Teacher. Is that not so? “Yes.” Then will that household perish, or will it prosper? “It will prosper.” Now, the Teacher himself has done so, but you go out once for the sake of the nation and cry out.
For you to occupy the nation and occupy the world and make others cry Mansei, such a standard of conviction must be established within yourselves, within our church, between you and me.
If, from this position, we put you at the front and cry Mansei, then hereafter no great social problem, no great national problem, and no great world problem will arise. Do you understand what this means? “Yes.”
Because it will not do for the parents alone to occupy completely, the Teacher has called you as well.
Have those who have been called witnessed much until now?
Have you, or have you not? You said you would, but you could not. Is that not so? The problem lies there. Having heard the Teacher’s words, can you have the confidence that from now on you will resolutely hold conviction and be able to make the Teacher cry Mansei? Those who can, raise your hands. Those who are confident, raise your hands. Will those who are confident keep their hands up for two hours? Probably some fellow will lower his in less than ten minutes. Will he lower it or keep it up? “We will keep it up.” Now, let us lower them. At a time like this, one pretends to be unable to resist and, saying “Well, if you insist,” slips one’s hand down.
Become One Who Captures the Mind
Then when the Teacher says that from tomorrow you must push from Seoul to Busan, you push. Do you push? Should you push, or should the Teacher push? When a woman who likes a man gives him a sharp kick once to see what the fellow’s mind is like, the man dances with another woman, does he not? Is that not so? Young people must have such spirit.
Furthermore, when the order comes to assemble at Namsan, you run to climb in a single breath, do you not? You run up quickly and climb, but when it is said, “This is a drill,” you heave a sigh, do you not? Why is that? Because it is a drill. The center here is the drill. So even if it is a drill, it must be done that way. Then it is done well. One comes to surpass that standard.
Because they have been trained with this kind of conviction, Unification Church members, wherever they go and under whoever they come to work, run out in front. Even in digging the ground, one must think that this is a point one can surpass and that it becomes a drill. The Teacher has done such things until now. Any hardship, even in prison, whether one dies or lives, whatever the work, it is all right. But one must not collapse in that place; one must remain. At that time, the one who has remained together must be able to bear witness to himself. Bearing witness is necessary. Do you understand? One must become a person who cries Mansei centering on love.
Who is the person who has succeeded in the Unification Church?
Have you seen him among Unification Church members? Who is it? That can be known only when it appears. If it has not appeared, one absolutely does not know. Why did you come here? You did not answer, but in your mind you want to do it all yourself, do you not? Then who might have succeeded? Is it the Association president? Is it a Blessed Family? What good is it to have received the Blessing if one cannot take responsibility…
What is good remains eternally. Success is what remains eternally. You must know that success is the position of having attained the purpose. Therefore, out of success, the supreme comes forth. The people in such and such positions in the Unification Church are nearly all fine people, are they not?
Of course, one may say that those who came in earlier have succeeded that much, but it is so only as regards the past. When the time comes hereafter to occupy the world, it is not known.
Then, on what basis does one say that someone in the Unification Church has succeeded? Because he writes elegantly? Because he lectures the Principle well? “No.” Then what is it? “One must remain eternally.” What must one do to remain eternal? Centering on God’s love, one must eternally capture the Teacher’s mind. Would it not be so? “Yes.” Even when one is at home, one must be filled with a mind directed toward the Teacher.
If one has become a member who can completely capture the Teacher, he can capture the world. How is the way to capture that? What must one do to capture the Teacher of the Unification Church? What must one do? One must give as one has received. Is it not so even in the world?
All of you, what will you do if you have no time to witness?
“We will obey and submit.” Obeying and submitting is good, but that alone will not do. Then what must be done? Shall the Teacher teach you? “Yes.” When you go to a local area, you must become completely one with the district leader of that area. If among the people of that region you alone have the mind of a noble person, distance opens up from there. Next, if it is a regional leader, you must completely capture the mind of the regional leader. And then, if it is the Association president, you must completely capture the mind of the Association president. Such people who can capture in that way are being longed for. Do you understand? “Yes.” For that, what must be done? As the Teacher has directed, you must become a person who can go into the lowest place and bear the responsibility of the members in their stead. Such a person will remain eternally. Do you understand?
When there is a great, magnificent, fine-looking tree, but all its leaves have withered and its roots have died, what becomes of it? It may be finely formed, but there is no hope for it. Even a small tree, if it is fresher than that one, becomes the finer one. This one is not lacking in anything to be praised and lauded. That tree’s branches have received one hundred percent of the sap that goes from the root to the trunk. Therefore, it can grow without limit. Among branches, there are the main branch and the side branch, and the side branch becomes a more luxuriant branch than the main branch.
You Must Listen Well to the Teacher’s Words
In our church too there are various branches of regional leaders and district leaders, but on a fresh branch a more conspicuous branch grows. If the regional leader is alive, the district leader becomes so too. Do you understand what this means? “Yes.” It grows. To completely capture the mind of a regional leader as a regional leader, of a district leader as a district leader, and of a church leader as a church leader, one must know their strengths and weaknesses and attend to them. Such a person draws out their whole mind without a word. Then they are made to comfort such a person without a sound. Do you understand what this means? “Yes.” In other words, what is it that can seize and obtain authority beyond the authority of a regional leader, a district leader, or a church leader?
It is sacrifice and service. A person who can give a hundredfold and a thousandfold in every aspect of the work and still be glad to take a loss will surely be able to capture them. And if he can love them and be loved by them, that person can love all people.
And thus one rises up, centering on the township as a township, the county as a county. One comes to be recognized as the finest in one’s county. It is the same at an athletic meet, is it not? It is the same. One rises passing through in this way. And when the people of that county bless him, he comes to represent that county. Rising gradually in this way, one becomes the representative of the Association. Is that not so?
If one rises, forming one body with the mind of the church leader, the mind of the district leader, and the mind of the regional leader, then where does one rise to next? The Association president. And when the Association president becomes utterly devoted to that person and has his mind completely captured, he sets that person up as Association president in his place. Do you understand what this means? Such a person captures the supreme position.
Then, when we look at all the peoples of the whole world centering on religion, who is the man who will completely capture God’s mind? He is the one who gathers everything in which religious people have failed until now and takes it all away. He is the one who appears to have sought all the things that failed from Adam through Abel, Noah, Abraham, Moses, John the Baptist, and Jesus until now because they did not know God’s heart (심정). When we look historically at the representative of a church as a church, or the representative of a worldwide denomination as a denomination, there must be a final man who comes forth having gathered all the causes for which no one was able to capture God’s mind. The Teacher of the Unification Church has been doing such work.
Therefore, however anyone in the world persecutes and opposes, one must not perish. Therefore, one must first have conviction. One must have confidence. Only if one holds the conviction that “They worked this way, so they were like this; I did it this way, so I am like this” can one become a great victor in love, centering on God’s love.
In that respect, is the Teacher worth following, or is he not? “He is worth following.” Then must you listen well to the Teacher’s words, or must you not? “We must listen well.” More than the words of the regional leader, more than the words of the Association president, whose words must you listen to? “The Teacher’s words.” You must listen well to the Teacher’s words. The leaves of a tree grow receiving the sap not of the trunk but of the root. The sap does not come from the branches; from where does it come, you say? It comes from the root. Because the root is far away, it passes through the trunk and passes through the branches.
Therefore, you must become good fruit through the Association president, through the regional leader, through the district leader, through the subdistrict leader, and through the church leader.
Then from where does it grow?
It grows from the top. Only when it grows from the top does the whole grow. Dead branches are cut off. Do you understand? “Yes.” Therefore, moisture is absolutely necessary at the root. It is the same with human beings needing heaven and earth.
It says, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and have dominion over all things (Gen. 1:28); but in having dominion, who has dominion?
It is not God who has dominion; those who can completely receive God’s love, who capture God and succeed before God, all have dominion over the universe. It must become so. Do you understand, or do you not? “We understand.”
What Is the Innate Cause of a Man
Will you make the Teacher cry Mansei? “Yes.” For that, you must do what the Teacher could not do. Are you confident? “Yes.” You must cross the 38th Parallel and go up to the North. Can you go? “Yes.” It is blocked with barbed wire, but you must go over it. Can you do it? “Yes.” How about it? “We will do it.” Then when will you go to cut it? “We will go in according to orders.” If there were only people like you, it would be a disaster.
When the Teacher was your age, what did he do as he looked out at the world, and what did he think to himself?
Did he go about putting on airs? Did he say he would become Teacher Moon of the Unification Church? What did he do? The very opposite. The very opposite? So everyone opposed him. Who believed? Did the Teacher look like a person beneath one’s eyes or a person above one’s eyes? He looked like a person beneath one’s eyes. But the man beneath one’s eyes gradually becomes the man above one’s eyes. Is that not so? “Yes.”
Then you must listen well to the Teacher’s words, must you not? “Yes.” When you go to school, you must listen well to the teacher’s words. You must not be absent either, must you? “Yes.” Then I had better not speak. Those who came here after listening to their teacher’s words, raise your hands. Raise your hands. Not a single one. Then those who came without listening to their teacher’s words, raise your hands. What is this? It must be one of the two. A person must be honest. Those who came without receiving permission, raise your hands. You rascals! Then from whom did you receive permission and come? “From the Teacher.” Yes, that is the strange thing. Human feeling is such that one is determined to go precisely where one is told not to go. Then, having come here, how long will you endure? Ten years, twenty years, or a few months? What about you? You want to go back to school, go to the principal’s office, persuade the principal, and make all the students raise their hands at once, do you not? Is that not so? “Yes.”
For that, you must fight. To fight and win, you must plan your strategy well. To embrace and manage both inside and out, you must become an all-around person. You must gain such trust that a father who has a daughter attending university can say to your face, “I will surely make you my son-in-law.”
Until you gain such trust, you must not fail to pass over the crises. Has it been so until now? “It has not.” That is why until now you have been opposed to attending the Unification Church. Those who are opposed, raise your hands. Well, did it feel good?
What good is there in being welcomed in this world that must perish?
Today’s young men and women drift about the streets and are all going toward the precipice that ruins the world. But we maidens and young men who are opposed remain as one hope. I want to unite you into one and make it possible for you to cry Mansei.
Then where did Jesus cry Mansei?
He cried it on the cross. And he cried it in the tomb, and he cried it in the Kingdom of Heaven. In this way he cried Mansei three times. He cried Mansei on the cross, he cried Mansei at the barrier of death, and next he went before the throne of Heaven and cried Mansei. Because there was no one but Jesus who cried Mansei in that way, God could not help but love Jesus. As long as Jesus is in a position where he can receive God’s love in the age of history God governs, Jesus can accomplish the Will.
Then where will you cry, Mansei?
You must cry it within your mind, cry it before the nation, and cry it before the world. This is how the road we are to go is laid out.
Why did Jesus die on the cross?
It was because of the nation. He shouldered the burden of the nation alone and cried, Mansei. Jesus’ resurrection was to save the nation.
You must know that you are a body born for the sake of the Will, living for the sake of the Will, and going for the sake of the Will; a body that exists for the Father, a body that must go for the Father. Is this not the innate cause of a man? Even now we are striving to become such a body.
Jesus prayed,
“O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me (Matt. 26:39),”
but it is an unpleasant prayer. You do not pray such a prayer, do you? “Yes.” You must be caught by the People’s Army while crossing the 38th Parallel and undergo the agony of a death five times greater than what Jesus underwent on the cross. Even so, you must have nothing to fear.
Even if you run into such a difficult road, you must pray, “The Teacher’s Will is my will. Because of my will, the Teacher is suffering. It is bitter and mortifying. Before the Teacher, who has sacrificed for the Will, I will go for the Will even if I go alone, so do not worry about me,” and go. Is that not so? Do you go because of the Will centered on the Teacher? Is that the Teacher’s will? No. It is clearly your will. Can you go forward with such a mind? “Yes.”
The View of Marriage That Members Must Have
Do you want to go this road even after you are married?
After you are married, you must push Satan out in any battle. Because that has been done, the Unification Church has today become a worldwide religion. So these days, when one family of the 36 Families goes out to fight and comes back, it witnesses one family and comes back as two families; and when it goes out to fight once more, it witnesses one family and comes back as three families. This is worldwide.
Then with what kind of mind must one marry?
One must marry with the mind that one will bear this cross of battle. Going forward, centering on one mind and one purpose for the sake of the Will, as people who love each other, even if they are nailed to the cross, both the man and the woman must say, “It is all right if I die, but do not betray the Will.” One must become a person who can do that. One must become one man and one woman who can shine long and forever in such a thousand-year history, able to say, “The bitter grief (한) of a thousand ages must be settled; how could this one body wish to live twice? Must I not resolve God’s bitter resentment, resolve the bitter resentment of humankind, and further leave a position of glory to my descendants?”
Among women, such a woman becomes the standard. Such a woman is trustworthy for a thousand and ten thousand years. And if there is such a man, the women of ten thousand ages will take him as the standard of manhood and seek to receive him as their eternal husband. The day when such a husband and such a wife can meet spring again in a future world where they sing of happiness beyond death, that day is precisely a day of festival before the Father, a festival day in heaven and earth, a day that can leave a congratulatory banquet in that world. How splendid and how proud a day this is!
All of you, do you want to marry such a person?
Where do you want to do it? You must be married upon the cross. But if God protects you and you come down from that place, and while remaining loyal to the Will for each other you make a vow of a hundred years, that couple is the supreme couple among couples.
Jesus, through his death on the cross, lost the Holy Spirit.
What is it that can support such a death of Jesus?
Jesus crossed the ridge of death, drawing in his mind the image of a bride, saying, “The reciprocal being I longed for, that is, the figure of the true mother I was seeking, must be like this.” He went, drawing one wish that pierced his whole mind, that is, the Holy Spirit.
Because Jesus left behind bitter grief (한) on this earth, to resolve that han, the Holy Spirit must come to this earth. Such words are not in the Bible either, are they? You will have heard the expression the resolving of han. Jesus must come to this earth and resolve the han he could not resolve. Jesus had a mind to love all people with the relationship of a parent and, through those people, to save Israel; but holding such an ideal, he died with han in his heart. What has carried out a spiritual dispensation to resolve such a han of Jesus is the history of Christian development until now.
If the Unification Church is true, then a man as a man and a woman as a woman must set out to find a position where they can be loyal before that Will. When we say there is such a splendid position, that position is not a comfortable position of normally eating, dressing, and sleeping. It is a position of death where the storms of every persecution and trial beat upon the body from the environment. But even in such a position, one must become a man and a woman of heart (심정) who can advance with initiative and overcome that difficult environment. You must know that this is the reality.
You must be able to say, “Now even the 38th Parallel is no problem.” Is it so? “Yes!” The Teacher would like to train you for just one week and quickly send you all out into the outside world to die; is that all right? “Yes!” Even if you are driven out into such an environment, if you only make up your mind, there is no problem. The communists are no problem. You must go over the line of death with such conviction. Do you understand? “Yes!” Let us go over the line of death.
Hope is calling us from beyond that line of death. Tomorrow’s hope does not call from behind me. Future hope, that hope does not call from beside me. You must know that only after pushing through today’s complicated and troubled environment and passing through days even more difficult than that in ten and twenty years in the future does hope cheer aloud and raise its hand high and embrace us.
Therefore, however layer upon layer the gaze of the storms, trials, and sufferings that press in may surround you, you must become a self that can kick them aside and go. Without that, you cannot remain, in the age of the consummation of history, as a protagonist of one ideology, as an ancestor who can contribute to that age. Otherwise, there is nothing to leave behind. Do you understand? “Yes.”
Let Us Make a Position That All People Envy
You are youth in bloom. Today, in this real world, you must live for the whole world. You must go from a standpoint that acknowledges that this world holds infinite value. You are in a position where, in this flower-like age, you can offer up to Heaven one hundred percent as an offering the supreme purity that can bloom. Is that not so? At what age does the nation conscript people? At the full age of twenty? Those who reach the full age of twenty are conscripted as soldiers, and when they are told to be loyal to the nation, that is all they know.
Only when you pour out all your passion and heart’s blood and become one with the ideology of loving the nation are you perfected. Do you understand? “Yes.” Even if you cannot perform all such actions, you must hold such an attitude of mind and take it as the index of your life, as the model of your life. From there you must make an ascending sacrifice. Not a descending sacrifice but an ascending sacrifice. You must know that, proportionally, trials, sufferings, and sacrifices always accompany it. Unless you, the protagonists of the future filled with conviction, do so, any purpose you have set up will all amount to no more than a delusion.
All of you, will you go to such a place of sacrifice? Will you go? “Yes!” So let Unification Church members marry in hell. If it is done in hell, will the evil spirits of hell envy it, or will they not? “They will envy it.” They may envy it so much that their mouths burst and their breasts burst, and there may be a way for them to repent. Such a position is a position that all people (萬人) envy. Do you understand? If you marry there, you become an ideal couple; is that what was said? It is easy to say, but it is hard. Are you confident? Someday I will put you to the test and give you a hard time.
The Teacher was a student in the time of Japanese rule, and he gathered with the communists and fought against Japanese imperialism. At that time, there was no other way. At that time, the Teacher was persecuted together with the communists for three years.
If caught, one was branded a thought criminal and dragged off to prison. Among them there were many women; because the underground party members who had received regular training had ideology instilled in them, however great the difficulty, they do not sacrifice the comrades who are involved. Therefore, even if it costs them their lives, they do not tell the secret anywhere.
While they are weak, they also have a fierce side, do they not?
Even knowing that they themselves are weak under torture, because they know that if they open their mouths, countless comrades will be sacrificed because of them, they absolutely do not speak.
Today the communists are organizing a worldwide communist party centering on such people. They are working as hard as if running naked in broad daylight. Are you doing likewise? Seeing such things, we must block the communists. Right now the Teacher has no time for leisurely talk. Considering the urgent world situation, we are in the position of having raised the beacon fire.
We are in an extremely dangerous position. We are a band that has taken up the cross, facing the supreme worldwide decisive battle of life or death. At such a crossroads, we are people who bear a destiny that must, one way or another, burst forth once.
Women Who Must Remove the Foundation of Bitter Resentment
When the Teacher says Let us go such a road, can you go?
Can you go? “Yes!” Must the Teacher drag you along for you to go? “No.” The question is whether you will go if told to make a general advance toward the North. The problem hangs on that. Before the final road is to be advanced upon, guns and swords are aimed from the front and back and left and right, and crossroads of death lie layer upon layer. The question of how to overcome this remains. Going to heaven is not the problem. If one overcomes that, one naturally goes to heaven.
The Teacher would like to cross the 38th Parallel and visit his hometown once, but he cannot go. Do you too want to go to the Teacher’s hometown? “Yes!” You want to go, but you cannot go now. Looking at the present situation, you have not become people who can do that. The Teacher knows the communists better than anyone. From which class shall we draw out young warriors who can trample over the communists, this worldwide enemy? It will not do for the men alone to be excellent. Women are needed too. Do you understand? “Yes.”
Hereafter I will mobilize all the women, give them military training, and make them into a women’s army. The women of the Unification Church will become a women’s army. Standing at the head in the mopping-up operations, we must strike down the North Korean communists better than the White Horse Division, better than the Fierce Tiger Division, better than the Blue Dragon Brigade. Must it not be done that way? We must overcome Satan, the archangel, who has made a plaything of the world until now. You are no longer of the archangel’s tribe. Because Eve disobeyed God’s command and made a foundation of bitter resentment, that foundation of bitter resentment must be removed by the hands of women, by the sincerity of women, by the strength of women. We must set out for that. Because it is an iron rule that women must do this, until this foundation of bitter resentment is removed, the liberation of women fundamentally cannot come about.
If the communists of the North should come over, they will kill all the men and drag the women away. Do you understand what this means? That is how it is. They will not leave the women behind. Do you know that it will not do to have only the pain of having had the enemy’s seed spread? Therefore, death is not the problem. When we think of such enemies, the responsibility to hold them off in our generation lies with the women. Therefore, hereafter, ideological education is necessary in the family as well.
The Bible says that he who would die shall live and he who would live shall die. The Teacher had several dozen brushes with death, but he came through alive. I have come through countless hardships while living to the age of fifty. At the supreme crisis, I have devoted every sincerity and fought until now to establish the time of final victory. Until now the Teacher has fought a worldwide fight to restore the world. He has fought by indirect tactics. Do you understand?
How much are you worrying about having to face war directly?
Some four hundred young men and women are gathered here, but when I think how many of you will be able to sympathize at that time and cry a Mansei of victory, it is extremely doubtful. Is it not so? “Yes.” Seen by the Teacher, it is doubtful. Doubtful: “Not doubtful.” Your voice is not louder than mine. Doubtful? “Not doubtful!” If so, then I have become able to cry Mansei.
The Form of the Kingdom of Heaven (the Ideal Nation 理想國家)
What the Teacher thought about on the way back from Gangneung the other day was how he should lead young people in going to his hometown. Shall we think about it once? “Yes.” Much time has passed, so let us stop. “It is all right.” Have you adopted the same attitude of mind as the Teacher? “We have.” Is it really so? “Yes.” Why are you making such a fuss, like uninvited guests?
Actually, the Teacher meant to tell you something astonishing today, but as soon as he came up, he forgot it. It seems the Teacher has been badly caught by you today. Since I have been caught, I must untangle this and be liberated, must I not? “No.” Then you mean I should stay caught forever? “Yes.”
How many hours have passed since the lecture began? Since it has not ended yet, let us do just one more lecture. If one starts to talk, there would be no end. We said that there is no such thing as “I,” did we not? Everyone is a debtor. Shall we find out how much debt you have incurred? “Yes.” Whose is your mind? “God's.” That is right. You have no mind, do you? Your mind is not your own, is it? “Yes.” The mind does exist, but you cannot do with it as you please. You cannot do as you please, can you? “Yes.” Then where did your body come from? You borrowed it from your mother and father, did you not? At birth you were a tiny thing, but now you have grown this big. What is this? Until now your body has been indebted to the earth.
You have three great parents. You must know this well. Three great parents. First, the parent of the mind; second, the parent of the body; third, the parent of the earth, that is, the parent of nature.
If these three parents were to go on a joint strike, an all-out struggle, what would become of you? You would die. Therefore, you would have to beg, “Please do not go on a joint strike. I will obey well and do as I am told.” If they were to form a Three Position Foundation as one body and go on a joint strike, it would be all the more difficult.
Mind and body are different. From where did you receive the mind? You received it from God. The mind comes from God. Where did the mind come from? “From God.” You must listen well to what the Teacher is saying. It is content you must speak about when you return. Your mind came from Heaven and your body from your parents. Since the body came from the earth, one eats what comes from the earth. You are indebted to the earth. What is the earth, you say? This earth is matter.
A person is either a man or a woman. The extension of Adam and Eve, whom God created, is precisely “I.” Do you understand? “Yes.” The moment one says a human being (人), there is already substance there. How many things have entered into a human being? The earth has entered, the human being has entered, and God has entered.
From of old there have been the words heaven (天), earth (地), and human being (人). The mind is heaven (天), the body is earth (地), and the person is the human being (人); is that not so? In the end, within the one “I,” God has entered, the earth has entered, and the human being has entered. Centering on what does a person live? Centering on the body, or centering on the mind? “The mind.” The mind becomes the subject and becomes the center. The body becomes the object.
Since the mind becomes the center of the body, there must be will, there must be a view (觀), and there must be conviction. A person in whom these are unified into one is called a person of character. A person of conscience whose body moves according to the command of the mind is called a person of character. A person who can do as he wishes with his person is a person of character. Is that not so? “Yes.” So you must become people who can do as you wish.
Therefore, the mind is the center. The mind is in the place of God, and the body is in the place of the human being. God governs the mind of a person, the mind of a person governs the body of a person, and the body of a person governs all things. Do you understand? “Yes.” The question of how you will realize the Kingdom of Heaven on earth that you must build hereafter unfolds from here.
Whom does the Kingdom of Heaven on earth resemble?
It resembles me. When you look at one nation, what is there? There is sovereignty, there are citizens, and there is territory. This is the same as a human being. Whom does the Kingdom of Heaven on earth resemble, you say? “It resembles me.” Individual “I”s gather and become a nation. Therefore, just as I have a mind, the nation too must have sovereignty; because it is a personality, it must have citizens; and just as a human being has all things, it must have territory.
By this principle, the territory is governed by the people, and the citizens are governed by the sovereignty. This territory, citizens, and sovereignty are the three great elements of the formation of a nation. That is how it is.
In an individual, the mind is the sovereign. The sovereign governs the citizens, and the citizens govern the territory. Is that not so? Then who owns the territory? It belongs to this Republic of Korea, to the nation, but in fact it belongs to the citizens. The world formed by such a law is the democratic world, the capitalist world. But how is today’s communist world? Everything is made the property of the state. There is nothing that the citizens govern. It is not a normal system. Do you understand what this means?
Looking at a person, the principle is that the mind governs the body and the body governs all things. Because this principle exists, when we look at the whole world, the decisive conclusion of heaven, earth, and humanity (天地人) emerges. Do you understand?
What is heaven, you say?
Since it is like the human mind, it is the same as sovereignty. Is a person a personality, is he not? The earth is all things. In the end, whom does the nation resemble? It all resembles me.
However great a society, however great a nation, it must resemble the human being. That is because God likes what resembles His own image. Then what do people like most? What resembles their image? Therefore, what must the ideal nation resemble? “The human being.” It must resemble the human being. Does it resemble him, or does it not? “It resembles him.” It resembles heaven, earth, and humanity (天地人).
What kind of civilized age is today’s world?
It is the age of material civilization. What does the omnipotence of matter mean? It means that, upside down, matter governs the human being. Must this perish, or must it not? “It must perish.” If it does not perish, we human beings become miserable. It fundamentally destroys even one’s own existence. That is why things like the hippies come out in America. When it becomes so, one no longer knows whether a human being is a human being. This is Satan’s doing.
People once said that God is dead, did they not? Saying God is dead means that there is no mind either. Then everything perishes. Since God created human beings centering on Himself, our individual selves resemble God’s image. God too has a part like the mind and an element like matter. Therefore, what was made resembling God is the form of today’s world. Do you understand? “Yes.”
What kind of world is the most highly developed civilized world hereafter? The Kingdom of Heaven on earth is a society so institutionalized that mind and body and matter, according to this principle, carry out give-and-take action completely without contradiction or conflict within my sphere of life and can establish the norms of heavenly law (천륜).
Looking at the Republic of Korea, upon the foundation of sovereignty, citizens, and territory, there is a legislative branch, a judicial branch, and an executive branch. Here too heaven, earth, and humanity (天地人) are all contained. Here the legislative branch corresponds to the lungs of our body. The judicial branch corresponds to the heart, and the executive branch corresponds to the stomach. Overall, it resembles me. Is that not so? That is how it has come to be. The legislative branch, corresponding to the lungs, must take in fresh air and establish policy. And the judicial branch, which is the same as the heart, must, just as the white blood cells in the blood block the germs that penetrate, guard against the invading enemy and maintain the peace and order of the nation.
Like the stomach that absorbs food, the administrative organization must absorb everything needed to maintain the nation. These three branches of organization must give well and receive well.
Considering this principle, we can see that the social systems of the world have come out resembling the structure of a human being. What kind of world is the most highly developed, civilized world? It is a world that resembles the human being. A human being has the cardiac system, the nervous system, and the mind system, and these must all become one. What is the ideal ideology that can bind these into one? It is World-ism (세계주의) through love. It can be reached through World-ism. These words are difficult, are they not? But those who understand will all understand.
In sovereign nations, local organization is not well done. When you look at communist countries, local organization is well made in a cellular structure. From the township people’s committee to the county people’s committee, the provincial people’s committee, and the supreme people’s committee of the state, in this way they have organization down to the province, the county, and the township. The communist world, the satanic world, is imitating well the form of the cellular organization of the human being. We are going forward, breaking up this communist world.
The Form of Organization the Unification Church Must Realize
At such a time as this, when our Unification Church seeks to build the Kingdom of Heaven on earth, what must we do? Hereafter we must organize branch offices in the townships and counties and have the people of those localities pass through our church. Let us carry out such work within our church itself.
Our church itself must have all such organization. There must be something like a judicial branch and something like an executive branch. It must unfold in this form. Our church organization must be like this. Hereafter, economic matters and the sales field must also be made into two tracks. The dualization movement: this is a movement to separate church matters and economic matters.
Then what corresponds to the legislative branch?
This is the family unit. If this is not achieved, that nation will not come. The family must play the leading role as the core of society. Subject and object must fulfill this responsibility. We have been unfolding such a tremendous mission until now. The Kingdom of Heaven is realized only when such organization is unified as one body from the mountain valleys to the cities.
What must be done for it to become so? The family must fulfill this responsibility. From where is the Kingdom of Heaven achieved, you say? It is achieved from the family. Without the family, it will not do.
Then who must inherit that traditional ideology of the unfallen world?
It is Adam’s direct descendants. The families of Adam’s direct descendants must inherit it. Hereafter, such an organization must be developed worldwide. Thereby, an environmental Kingdom of Heaven is realized.
To achieve the Kingdom of Heaven on earth, we must create a system that can adapt all the principled norms to the social environment. Overall, it is to come to resemble the human being. Today’s intelligence agencies are the same as the human organ of hearing.
What must happen for the Republic of Korea to prosper?
Only when it is equipped with a powerful system that can immediately receive reports of and deal with all hostile elements invading from outside can the nation prosper. In the end, what will the developed society hereafter come to resemble, you say? It will come to resemble me. Because there are three great principles among mind and body and matter, none of them can be separated. These three must combine and achieve formation, growth, and completion, completing one form.
We human beings have one Heavenly Parent. Since God is composed of dual characteristics, we human beings too are of dual characteristics. All things too are composed of dual characteristics of the plus and minus type.
If we combine and connect God, human beings, and all things, it becomes the number seven. Seen in stages, this is three stages, and laid out, it is the Four Position Foundation. When this number three and number four achieve harmony and are unified, they become the number seven. The number seven is the number of the completion of the purpose of creation.
You are all made as above. Everything is three become one. The eyes too are connected as one; the nose too, if you go straight in, is made as one; and the ears likewise. All are made one.
And when you look at the face, this (pointing to the eyes) symbolizes God, this (pointing to the nose) symbolizes the human being, and this (pointing to the mouth) symbolizes all things. The highest part of the face is the nose, is it not? The teeth number thirty-two and symbolize all things. (4×8=32) In this way, all the elements of heaven and earth are gathered in the face.
In this way, three organs are connected. When we look at this in terms of the three-stage principle of formation, growth, and completion, we cannot know how splendid a human being is. Centering on such a principle of creation, we must hereafter pioneer the Kingdom of Heaven on earth to build the Kingdom of Heaven.
What is the greatest problem in today’s human world?
It is that there is no organ like the lungs. Because no organ like the lungs can absorb the oxygen that is the source of life, we cannot absorb the ideal material for establishing a new policy that can make the people of the world happy. That is why this earth has become impoverished today.
In the absence of an ideal ideology, history until now has been in the process of coming to meet that ideal. The Unification Church has gone beyond this process and is presenting a new ideology.
The Family Is the Final Standard That Completes Cosmos-ism
God created human beings to resemble Himself, and human beings are developing a world that resembles themselves. From this viewpoint, why do people seek to succeed in the world? It is because the wide world resembles the human being.
That the person himself, from a subject position, faces the world reciprocally is an iron rule of the Principle. That is why everyone tries to succeed through society. And that comes to rest in the nation, and beyond the nation, it comes to rest in the world.
Accordingly, everything divides from one into many and is finally synthesized into one great thing. It develops in this way. It divides from one into many and is integrated into one. Here it divides again and becomes something still greater. It means that everything enters into one greater world.
There is the family in it, and its form is the same as before it was integrated. The family is where a husband and wife are formed, and where that husband and wife are made one. The clan is where families are made one, and the people are where clans are made one. Peoples combine, and all enter before one nation. The people enter into the nation, the clan enters into the people, the family enters into the clan, and the individual enters into the family. In the end, the further one enters from one into the greater, the greater it becomes. When everything enters into one, it is unified. Do you understand what this means? “Yes.”
In this, the family is the center in every respect. If this family is expanded, it becomes a horizontal world. In the course of restoration, this work must be done. Adam’s family should have done so, Noah’s family should have done so, and Abraham’s family, Moses’ family, Jesus’ family, and the Teacher’s family too must do such work. Therefore, whatever society it may be, the family cannot be left out. If the family cannot be restored, the world cannot be restored.
Next, centering on that family, Cosmos-ism must be realized. The Cosmos is the sum of heaven and earth. Heaven and earth are like the body and mind in a human being. Body and mind must become one.
Just as one subject requires one object, one man requires one woman. Where man and woman become one is the family. Because the foundation of God’s love is not secured without centering on this one family, it must be the family as the standard representing the clan.
If the family of the president of the Republic of Korea goes wrong, the nation goes wrong. It is the same for the president of the United States. For any famous person in the world, the family is the center.
Cosmos-ism is the ism that, after combining body and mind, forms the family that becomes the substantial body of God’s love and connects that ideology to the spiritual world and the physical world.
The character ju in Cosmos (천주) is the character ju (宙), meaning house. House ju, is that not so? “Yes.” That is why we use the term Cosmos-ism. The Cosmos is the sum of the formless world and the substantial world. What relation does this have to us? We need the family. Unless you become one in your family, you have nothing to do with Cosmos-ism. The family becomes the final standard that completes Cosmos-ism. A person who cannot sing the song of peace here and cannot praise happiness becomes an unhappy person both on this earth and in the spiritual world.
The world has come out resembling the family. Whatever world it may be, it is so. The ideal world hereafter must be realized, centering on the Three Position Foundation, the Three Position Foundation of the family.
Then what is the purpose of creation? It is to complete the Four Position Foundation. Because human beings must first complete the Four Position Foundation, everyone forms a family.
Human beings resemble God, and a society centered on human beings resembles human beings centered on God. The Teacher of the Unification Church has been establishing the Unification Church throughout the world until now and making it so. Though we know that the whole world must become so, we have not been able to reveal it. Nevertheless, through such a principle, the world will become so. The ideal world is a world in which the whole world forms the shape of one human being. In it, nation and people are transcended.
A Person of Faith Must Be Able to Love All People and All Things
Are the colors of our eyebrows and of our nose the same? “They are different.” But would a Black person feel good if he were called a Black? Would he feel good or bad about being called a Black? “Bad.” That must not be done. The people of the world consist broadly of three races. They are the white race, the yellow race, and the Black race. The Black race is at the very last; if we had to live attending to the Black race, would that feel good? “Bad.” When you wear black clothes, are black clothes good or bad? “Good.” You like Black clothes; then why do you dislike Black people?
Black clothes are made to be convenient and are good even when worn a long time. Is that not so? Black people can work twenty-four hours and need not wash their faces. Who can tell what dirt has gotten on a Black face? It is always the same… In that respect, Black people are better than you. Hereafter, when we come to have the same system of living and wish to economize and offer donations, Black people will offer more.
Within heaven, earth, and humanity (天地人), there is oneself. One is contained within. For us human beings, the world is one house. The world resembles the form of one human being. Therefore, one must become a person who can embrace this world and love it as one’s own partner.
If all things resemble my form, then I, as their subject, must have the magnanimity to embrace and love not only all the people of the world but all things as well.
If one does not have this, one comes to disregard the foundation. Therefore, all things seek to follow the human being, and the human being seeks to follow God.
From this viewpoint, a world that cries out gold-ism and the omnipotence of matter must perish. Do you understand? Above all, humanitarianism must be cried out. Until now, religion alone has cast away material things and valued the human being. That is, it has valued character.
If human beings had not fallen, they would not have lost material things. Why did religion cast away material things and value the human being? Because it is the natural order to seek first a true man and a true woman, religion has cast away material things until such a true man and true woman appear.
Korea, Which Will Become the Origin of a New Culture
When we consider East and West, the West developed material civilization, and the East developed spiritual civilization. Therefore, Western material civilization must return to the East.
If East and West do not give and receive with each other, they perish. Do you understand? “Yes.” Then which must give first? The East must give first. That is why Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, and Confucianism came out of the East and were given to the West. Did they give, or did they not? “They gave.” They gave everything. Since the West received this completely, what must it give? It must give material things.
Hereafter, the place that mediates in the middle so that the West brings material things intensively to the East is a place where there is hope. That place is precisely Korea, which has been the problem in the twentieth century. Is that so, or is it not? “It is so.” Korea is the center of the problem. Therefore, Korea is a place where there is hope.
Korea is the point of contact of Western civilization, a place that can become the origin of a new culture, a place where the relationship of the first departure of giving and receiving can be bound into the conclusion. Therefore, Korea becomes the gathering point of all civilizations.
America withdraws its hand from all other countries, but from Korea alone it cannot withdraw its hand. Unless God permits it, it cannot withdraw. It cannot withdraw its hand until the Unification Church takes root. Do you understand what this means?
The Greatness of the Unification Principle
The Principle is truly vast. Looking at the Principle, there is nothing in the world that cannot be resolved. Wherever you go among the universities, you cannot find such content. This privileged content that only the Unification Church possesses holds content like an encyclopedia of all that exists in the world. There is nothing that does not fit it. Why? Because it centers on the fundamental problem of the human being and on what is fundamental to heavenly law (천륜), it is the same as a formula. Only when one principle can be applied to everything can it be called a formula. What fits everything in this way is the Principle. This Principle fits modern philosophy and psychology as well. It also fits the principles of the material world.
To develop an enterprise, it will not do unless the three great elements of management, facilities, and technology become one. Everything is composed of three great principles in this way. Today’s philosophers of the world have spoken of three great philosophies, but we have come out with the philosophy of the Four Position Foundation. It is vast.
Until now it has been two-dimensional, but our philosophy is three-dimensional. Therefore, hereafter there will be nothing left but our Principle. Do you know such content, or do you not? “We know.” You know? “Yes.”
You want to keep going to church without knowing it yourselves, do you not?
“Yes!” Even if your parents tell you not to go, as soon as you have eaten, you want to go. Even when you go to school, your mind is restless. When classes are over, if you do not go to church, you feel as if you have lost something. Have you had such a feeling? “Yes!”
Who told you to come, that so many of you have come like uninvited guests and are given rice and cola and made to sleep here? Are you guests, or are you the owners? If the owner treats a guest coldly, does that household receive blessing or punishment? “Punishment.” That is why the Teacher is serving you such fresh air.
He is throwing the doors wide open and serving you. And what does he serve next? He serves the Word. Meeting the Teacher, you have a good laugh, take a good delight, and receive a good scolding, and while doing so you learn the best things. When you are glad even after being scolded, you are closest, are you not?
If you are glad even after being scolded, nothing better than that is needed. Considering this and that, the Teacher should speak in this way rather than go and rest and eat a bowl of rice. Because you are so glad, the Teacher’s heart does not ache even if you are not given rice.
The Reason the Teacher Concentrates on Victory-Over-Communism Activity
All of you, is Korea good or bad? “Good.” The core of spiritual civilization is religion, religion. Civilization does not develop apart from religion and God. The more one reveres religion, the more one must cast away material things. Then would it do for Satan to take the material things that have been cast away? It will not do. Because it will not do, material civilization is brought to Christians, who are people on Heaven’s side. Do you understand? Western civilization stood within the sphere of Christian civilization. The West hereafter is in a reciprocal position of having to receive spiritual civilization. It is Cain-like. When the time comes, it returns. Since revering religion means casting away material things, such a nation must be poor. Until now it has been poor. Being ruled by many peoples and being poor accords with the way of Heaven.
Then to whom must all that has been lost be given?
Would it do to give it to the communists, who are the satanic world?
If the communists take this away, this world perishes. Therefore, it is our responsibility to block this. We must take it over. Do you understand? Unless we take this over in a higher democratic world, this world perishes. The communists are trying to take this over; who will block them hereafter? There is no one to block them. While everyone retreats, who is trying to take this over? The Soviet communists are trying to take it over, and Communist China is trying to take it over. Because this will not do, the Teacher has presented the Asian question centering on anti-communism. Centering on Japan and Taiwan, in Southeast Asia we must solidify anti-communism as an advanced foundation for America and must not hand this over to Satan’s side. That is why the Teacher is now devoting himself to this work day and night. Do you understand? “Yes.” Otherwise we perish.
America has withdrawn its hand from Asia too quickly. If it is left as it is, American policy will fail within five years, and a time will come when the calamity that was in Asia will unfold, centering on the American continent. Do you think it will be solved because they have withdrawn their hand from the East? It is not so.
So when we hold dialogue with them about that problem, they say, Explain who Mister Moon is; explain the concrete method. Then we tell them. It will surely turn out as Mister Moon has said.
The Qualification to Have Dominion Over All Things and the Mission of Religion
What do you need?
Do you need money, or do you need ideology? “Ideology”: Religious ideology; that is, standing in a position where heaven, earth, and humanity (天地人) are joined, one must hold authority and govern all things. Then when will one govern all things? To govern all things, man and woman must become one, centering on the two words of love. The principle is that all things are to be governed at this time.
When God blessed Adam and Eve, He said,
“Be fruitful and multiply and have dominion.”
What must be done to be fruitful?
Can one be fruitful without receiving the Blessing? One is fruitful and multiplies and fills the earth and has dominion over all things. In the end, one has dominion over all things after establishing a family. That is how it is in the Bible.
Human beings do not hold the authority to have dominion over all things until they take the names of bridegroom and bride and form a true family. That is why religion seeks the human being. For human beings to have dominion over all things, they must wait until the original standard, the original standard of Adam and Eve, is restored. Because all things must be governed by a person who has become one, only after passing through original love does one come to have dominion over the created things.
All things desire to grow in a position where they can be loved within the relationship of love and be respected within the relationship of love. Such a place is the eternal place where all things must dwell.
But because, through the fall of human beings, it became the reverse of the original position, all things groan. Is that not so? “Yes.” Therefore, all things too have been waiting for the appearance of the many sons of God who hold the authority to govern the whole realm of groaning. Only through the appearance of so many sons can all things be governed, centering on the family of the Son of God. Because all things come forth longing for such a time, it is the mission of religion to achieve such a time. Human beings have no authority to have dominion over all things until that time is achieved. That is why religion must lose everything until then. Is this not principled? “Yes.”
In asserting the privileged value of all things, one seeks to assert it centering on love, but there is no one who can assert it. Unless we reach the standard where we can face all things with the original heart (심정) of love, we have no qualification to eat and digest all things. It is difficult to understand what this means, is it not? “Yes.” All things are governed from the family.
If all things are together with a family filled with love, will all things groan? They will not. All things wish to be governed in a place where love blooms.
Until now the standard of the Way (도) has not come forth into such a position.
Because one cannot have dominion over all things without coming forth into such a position, to become the owner of that position, the two must be joined as bridegroom and bride. That such a bridegroom and bride form a family and have dominion over all things centering on that family is the original norm. To do so, the lost human being must be found. Because that has not been done, we are in a position of not being permitted the privileged authority to have dominion over all things. Therefore, after handing all things over to the satanic world, we have been recovering them through Christianity until now. Herein lies the cause why Asians, whose spiritual civilization developed, are poor.
The more one reveres religion, the poorer one becomes, and the more one reveres material things, the more money one earns. But it will not do with material things. One is bound to suffer loss. Therefore, you must go forward with the relationship of a new history, toward a place where you can be unified with Western civilization, centering on the Eastern thought that has achieved a spiritual revolution.
The Place Where God’s Love Bears Fruit
Such work begins in Korea. And in Korea, which denomination?
The Unification Church. If the members of the established churches hear this, they will feel bad, but it cannot be helped. If they feel so bad they could die, then let them die and do as they please.
If the Teacher says it is so, it becomes so. God is bound to listen well to the Teacher’s words; He is not bound to listen well to the words of the ministers of the established churches. And if you listen quietly, the Teacher’s words make sense. Is that not so? “Yes.”
Where did I say God’s love is bound?
Where is that place? Where is the place of receiving the Blessing? “Korea.” Where in Korea? “The Unification Church.” Where in the Unification Church? The Association headquarters. In the 1960s, much weeping was done here. You do not know that history well. Because this is a noble place, hereafter it will not be purchasable even for one hundred million dollars. Hereafter, this place is important. When we put up a sign here saying No Entry, it will be made a place where one cannot casually sleep for a single night even if one were given several hundred million dollars. Not even the king of a nation can sleep here. Such a time is coming soon.
Then you become of a higher level than they, do you not? “Yes.” Because of whom is it so high? You have entered the stage where you can smell the fragrance of love. What love? God’s love. Because you can smell that fragrance, you like the Unification Church. Then are you bound to listen well to the Teacher’s words, or are you not? “We are bound to listen well.” Those who do not listen, let them perish. Let them perish utterly. Whether they perish or not, I will watch and see. If they do not perish, I will make them perish.
Would it be interesting or not if, living in the world like this, the Teacher’s hair turned white? “It would be interesting.” It would be interesting, but it is hard. It is a time when he must go back and forth across the world, and if he goes carelessly, it is exhausting. That is why even now the Teacher gathers young people here to raise those who will stand in his place and speaks deep into the night without even eating, though evening has passed. So will you become those who stand in the Teacher’s place, or will you not? “We will.”
What were our slogans in the 1960s?
First, “Let us make this a year in which we leave the greatest achievement of our lifetime.” The next year, “Let us become those who stand in the place of the Father.” The next year, “Let us become those who can be shown and boasted of.” The next year, “Let us become victorious masters.” That was said with the Teacher in mind.
What is the greatest achievement of the Teacher’s life?
Seen centering on God’s history of restoration, the years in which the greatest achievement was left are the 1960s. Therefore, one must become one who stands in God’s place and fulfills the mission. To become one who stands in God’s place, there must be a standard that can be shown and boasted of. That is to restore the Four Position Foundation. The Four Position Foundation must be restored within three years. Because that was done, the slogan of the four-year course, “Let us become victorious masters,” came forth.
This has been the fight the Teacher has fought until now. Therefore, you too, centering on these slogans, must enter a seven-year course to leave the greatest achievement of your lives.
Next, you must become those who stand in God’s place. To accomplish Restoration through Indemnity, you must become victors, that is, sons and daughters of God, who can completely resolve and settle God’s historical sorrow at having been driven back while fighting Satan. Thereby one becomes one who stands in God’s place.
If, from such a position, you subjugate Satan, block what Satan has accused, and step forth as sons and daughters of God, then God must show and boast of these sons and daughters throughout heaven and earth. Do you understand? “Yes.”
Because the completion of the Four Position Foundation is the completion of the purpose of creation, it becomes the principle by which the satanic world is subjugated. Therefore, we must create a victorious realm of dominion that can naturally subjugate Satan. Let us create that and go out to the Republic of Korea and to the world. You may not know it, but this is all formulaic work. You must go out with such slogans and leave the greatest achievement of your lives. Then when is the departure of your seven-year course? That the first seven-year course has all been accomplished is said, centering on the whole. When did each of you depart on your own seven-year course? That differs for each of you.
When you listen to such words of the Teacher, this word may seem like that word and that word like this word. But what I have spoken of today are mostly important matters. Such content does not appear in the Principle book. You have all heard new and important words. Among the questions on a Principle examination, the question “Why have religious people until now been unable to have dominion over all things?” will be the most difficult. That is why I have now presented the principled view of dominion over all things. The principled logic as to why religion must not form a relationship with material things is what has been explained until now.
To Achieve One World
You can become warriors of Heaven only when you combine heart (심정) with it.
Without heart, it will not do. If there is no heart, character does not come forth; if character through the heart does not come forth, truth through the heart does not come forth either; and if truth through the heart does not come forth, the ideal does not come forth. What is your ideal? “True Parents.” Then are True Parents good or bad? “Good.”
If you say, “We are the fruit of six thousand years of history. We are the center of three billion humankind. Let the origin hereafter be taken from us,” it becomes grave. You must know this.
Until now, purpose has centered on the future. Purpose has been put off to tomorrow and tomorrow. But as long as that purpose is sought in the future, a unified world will not come forth. This fallen world until now has cried out, Future, future, future. The communists say the world develops through struggle, but the world of purpose must stand as the historical center at some one time. Unless this is established, one world is not achieved. Do you understand what this means?
Then what has history come seeking today?
What has the age come seeking? What must the future seek? “True Parents.” Therefore, unless the whole comes to rest here, the standard of happiness cannot be found in the course of history or within the universe.
The origin of love must originally have the vertical and horizontal foundations equal, centering on God and human beings. To make equal what has become unequal in this foundation is the wish of fallen humankind.
In this respect, Christianity has been forming the relationship of bridegroom and bride centering on Jesus. Seen from that standpoint, the truth of Christianity is closest to God’s world of heart (심정). That is why it became a worldwide religion in name and in reality and became the ideological support of the democratic world.
Who is your center?
It is True Parents centered on Jesus. All the people of history must become one, centering on True Parents. From here, the origin of future tradition is established. The origin of a tradition that can unify is from here. The center of the number three is from here.
Then what kind of band are we, Unification Church members?
We are a band that is taught the doctrine of True Parents and becomes the sons and daughters of True Parents. There is nowhere but the Unification Church that teaches the doctrine that one must become the sons and daughters of True Parents.
Therefore, the Unification Church is a place where one can attend True Parents, the center that history has come seeking. It is a place where one can attend True Parents, the center that the age demands. I can inherit the relationship of True Parents, who can become the origin of the future. Therefore, I am the fruit of history. I am the center of the age. I shall become the origin of the future and shall become an ancestor.
You must know that this comes about only when one forms a relationship that can be in accord with the heart (심정) of True Parents. If you hold such a mind and pray such a prayer, it does not become a shame. Do you understand? “Yes.”
Therefore, we do not seek our purpose in a future a thousand years hence. The purpose we seek, our future descendants will also seek in the past. What is that? It is True Parents. This is of the past, of the present, and of the future. This is eternal. Do you understand?
Hereafter, you must not merely welcome the world that is coming, centering on this ideology. You must attend True Parents while longing for them. Accordingly, you who are within the sphere of this age today are living in the present, but you must be the fruit of the past and the origin of the future. These three ages must become one. You must become a present self who can integrate the past behind and the future ahead.
With what shall we integrate? We must integrate with the love of True Parents. To whom shall we integrate? We must integrate with sons and daughters.
Who are those sons and daughters?
They are sons and daughters centered on the love of True Parents. In other words, they are the same as the sons and daughters whom an unfallen Adam and Eve would have borne. From here, one can become a son or daughter of the Kingdom of Heaven. Therefore, the position of being born today with the relationship of love of the three ages is the position of becoming a son or daughter of True Parents.
Even though human beings have fallen, we must go back up the course of history and recover that position.
True Parent-ism
Then what kind of ism is Cosmos-ism?
It is True Parent-ism. In the end, these two isms are the ism of the parents. This is the ism of our house, the ism of our nation, the ism of each of you.
If human beings had not fallen, whose ism would the world be? It would be Adam’s ism. That Adam-ism is precisely True Parent-ism. It is father-and-mother-ism. There can be no other ism above this. Therefore, the Unification Church must connect matters of heart (심정) with Heaven-ism, centering on the ideology of True Parents within the framework of this original ideal family. As long as the relationship of the family institutionalized by such an ideology remains, the Unification Church will not perish. It must not perish.
The sons and daughters of Heaven must live more happily than anyone in the satanic world and must bear more sons and daughters than anyone in the satanic world. You will probably bear twelve as a matter of course. Bear them one after another, I say. Unification Church members cannot practice birth control. You must bear more than ten. I will earn everything and feed them.
The starting point that can complete the standard of the historical wish has already appeared upon the earth. Has it appeared, or has it not? “It has appeared.” It has appeared theoretically, and it has appeared in fact as well. Therefore, from now on we enter a new world. We enter a new age with the ideology of the Unification Church. History is turning over and changing continually, is it not? “Yes.” During the first and second seven-year courses, things changed day by day, but I did not tell you such things. In the meantime, there have been many who have fallen below the standard. When I think of how I put caps on fools and pulled them along, I am indignant. Hereafter I will actively make you suffer. Does that feel good or bad? “Good.” Those who say it is good, raise your hands; those who say it is bad, do not raise them.
The holy song “Soldiers of Heaven” (하늘의 용사) spoke of the ideal of one world.
The fourth verse begins, “The brilliant culture dawning in the East, throughout the whole world becoming brothers in that light”; what kind of brothers does it speak of? It speaks of the brothers of True Parents. Precisely such an ideology can unify feelings, cross national borders, disregard ethnic character, break down all systems, and extend at ease into the world. When that happens, the world is automatically unified. That is why the Teacher gave the Blessing in Korea, went to Japan and gave the Blessing, and went to America and gave the Blessing.
Then what is brilliant in the East? “The culture.” That culture is the culture of heart (심정). What heart? It is the heart (심정) of True Parents that heaven and earth desire. One must possess that heart. In the holy song “Soldiers of Heaven,” when it says, “The brilliant culture dawning in the East, throughout the whole world in that light...,” is that whole world only Korea? “No.” Then would it be good to leave you out? “No.”
Do parents love a pitiful and inferior child more than a clever child, or less? “They love him more.” What are the sons and daughters who love the child whom the parents love more? They rise to the rank of filial children. Is that not so? “Yes.” So I love Black people more. And you? “We love Black people.” Then I will marry off all the young people of the Unification Church to Black people. Those among you who will go, raise your hands; let the women raise them once. You will not be able not to go. You do not raise your hands, but it is not made so. When you tell maidens and young men about getting married, they find it interesting. Is it interesting, or is it not? “It is interesting.”
Because a worldwide foundation had to be laid, after blessing the 430 Families, people of ten nations made international marriages. Then would it do for Korea to be left out of this, or would it not? “It would not.” Then is it a glory for foreigners to meet a Korean man, or is it not? “It is a glory.” Is it a glory to meet a Korean woman, or is it not? “It is a glory.” Then does that nation, which makes all people glorious, prosper, or does it not? “It prospers.” Therefore, men must go beyond the nation and take a partner to meet someone who will become a glorious wife, and women must go beyond the nation and take a partner to meet someone who will become a glorious husband.
The Meaning Contained in the Song “Soldiers of Unification”
We must live attending to both parents in the family. To escape the realm of groaning caused by Adam and Eve, we must attend to both parents. We say, let us bring both parents and build a small thatched cottage of three rooms and live; do you know what a thatched cottage of three rooms is? What is so good about Korea’s thatched cottage of three rooms? What is good about it?
Among houses, the only house that wears clothes is the thatched house. The men’s quarters are cozy, so it is a place one wants to go to quickly wherever one may be, and when spring comes, it is also a good place to sleep. It is such a good place. When one builds such a thatched cottage of three rooms, one must build it so that three generations can live together.
If one does not build a house where three generations can live, where will the parents go and live? We say, let us build such a house, bring both parents, and live together for a thousand and ten thousand years. The Korean people are admirable. There are no people but the Korean people that advance with the heart (심정) of restoration. Do you understand? “Yes.”
The light shines upon the whole world; throughout the whole world in that light, we become brothers and attend forever the parents of goodness whom He desired. And thus we must surely achieve one world. Surely “we shall achieve it.” One “wo-orld.” When the Teacher says “world,” you say “one.” World “One!” One “wo-orld!” Surely “we shall achieve it!” We shall achieve it “surely!” One “wo-orld!” Ah, how interesting. It must be achieved in this way. You must know this content and now try.
The first verse is heart (심정). Our original homeland, where we give and receive eternally through the relationship of heart, is the place where all human beings live. The original homeland is good because parents and family are all there. What is important here is heart (심정). The place where all the roads of happiness have been paved is our original homeland, the foundation of happiness. When you go to the original homeland and look, heaven and earth all become my brothers.
Now then, let us do it together once. Through the relationship of heart “Through the relationship of heart,” the world lives,” that has bound us into one, “that has bound us into one,” the relationship of original nature, “the relationship of original nature,” giving and receiving eternally, “giving and receiving eternally,” our original homeland, “our original homeland,” upon the foundation of happiness, “upon the foundation of happiness,” we shall live forever. “We shall live forever.” Here there is nothing that cannot be done with heart (심정). The Unification Church is a world of unified heart to achieve the world of heart (심정). Do you understand? “Yes.”
Next, the second verse is character. One must be a person who raises light with infinite character, but fallen human beings have lost this. Is that not so? “Yes.” Raising light with character is infinite. With infinite character, one must raise light and become a lighthouse of glory for the created things He made. Is that lighthouse a bad thing? All the things of the world of darkness come seeking it. And thus one must become the original figure from which life gushes forth. This becomes the subject of human value. And so that very thing blooms as a value of hope for eternal ages. One becomes a person who blooms throughout the whole universe as a being holding the value of hope for eternal ages.
Next, the third verse is the world of truth. Upon the framework of order, establishing what is true... Then what does that order refer to? It refers to the world of truth. Upon the framework of order that comes from truth, one must establish what is true. That is to establish the truth that humankind needs. And then what is it? “Promising eternity.” The true promise is eternity. It is not temporary. It is not something that is ruled by the revolutionary government of one age and collapses. It is a signpost of truth that raises on high an unchanging value that promises eternity. A person who holds such a signpost is a person of unchanging value. It means adorning the vast good days. It means adorning the good days that stretch on and on, the good days one by one. It means adorning the good days. That is, establishing goodness day by day and establishing righteousness day by day; one adorns the vast good days.
Next, the fourth verse is: the brilliant culture dawning in the East, throughout the whole world becoming brothers in that light, attending forever the parents of goodness whom He desired, surely we shall achieve one world... Seen in this way, with heart (심정), one achieves character, and to achieve character, there must be truth. And then there comes to be glory in one world.
Now you must walk forward to obtain such glory. All Unification Church members must equip themselves with this content and make it one with themselves. One who takes it as the goal of his life and goes forward unchanging and with dignity is a warrior of the Unification Church. This meaning is contained in the song of the soldiers of unification. You understand, do you not? “Yes.” Now, let us sing it once.
- Through the relationship of heart, the world lives/the relationship of original nature that has bound us into one/our original homeland where we give and receive eternally/upon the foundation of happiness, we shall live forever/(With strength!) We are the pride, the soldiers of unification; with strength let us gather our affection and press onward.
- Raising light with infinite character/the lighthouse of glory of the created things He made/the original figure from which life gushes forth/we shall bloom with the value of hope./We are the pride (With strength!) the soldiers of unification/with strength let us set up the Will and press onward.
- Upon the framework of order establishing what true/the unchanging value that promises eternity/the signpost of truth raised on high/(With strength!) we shall adorn the vast good days. We are the pride. The soldiers of unification, with strength, cried out, Let us press onward.
- The brilliant culture dawning in the East/throughout the whole world, becoming brothers in that light/attending forever the parents of goodness whom He desired/surely we shall achieve one world/(Heave ho! Heave ho!) We are the pride, the soldiers of unification; with strength, let us press onward to that world.
- (Women only!) The brilliant culture dawning in the East (men only!) throughout the whole world is becoming brothers in that light/attending forever the parents of goodness whom He desired (all together with strength!). Surely we shall achieve one world (men only!). We are the pride (Women only!), the soldiers of unification (men only!), and with strength, let us press onward to that world.
