Even though this is a very busy season out in the provinces, thank you for coming here like this. I understand that among those who came today, the first-timers came because our members or church people in your neighborhood urged you, saying, “The Teacher is coming to the district headquarters, so let us go and see him together.”

The Difficulty of Preaching to a Crowd

I have been speaking a great deal all this while, so my voice has gone hoarse. There are many faces here I am seeing for the first time. Those who are seeing the Teacher for the first time today, raise your hands. Put them down.

If there is anyone who had no religion at all before joining the Unification Church, raise your hand. Put it down.

When you guide many people, there are all sorts of people, and their circumstances are also of many kinds, and at times there is much that is complicated. Consider the matter of employment: a workplace wants to hire the person it needs, while the person seeking work wants to find a workplace suited to his situation. In the same way, when the Teacher speaks to you, my position is awkward because many people are mixed here, young and old alike.

If I speak in a dignified manner, centering on the older people and honoring them, the young people dislike it. For the young people, you have to pick up the microphone and shout and show them something. That is why striking an average and taking hold of the microphone is a difficult thing.

Generally speaking, even a person who is advanced in years feels displeased if you say he looks old. That gentleman over there is like that, and I too have grown ancient. Yet if you say a man’s hair has gone gray and that is a shame, he feels displeased. No matter how white his hair has turned, if you say his face looks truly fine, he is pleased. If you tell anyone he looks young, they are all pleased.

When the Teacher faces a crowd to speak or to guide them, young people are easier to deal with than the old. As I speak, there are times when I strike hard, centering on the young people, and then the older ones grow bored. When speaking to young people, saying “Hey there, you rascal, you fellow” gives them more of a jolt and feels more real to them than saying “Excuse me, sir.” That is because it carries the flavor of the way they played with their friends.

Now, what do we mean by fine scenery?

A rugged, jagged rock and water that is not flowing gently over a sandy bed but water that strikes against the rugged rocks and flows on with a sound, and in such a place a pine tree standing as though clinging upside down to a cliff—that is what makes scenery beautiful.

In the same way, young people must at times be given a sharp discipline and at times be encouraged. And older people too must at times be coaxed and won over, and at times need not be. Speaking in this manner, I end up being quite rude to my audience, and I ask that you understand it.

The Right Attitude for One Who Listens to the Message

Speaking in this way, the result has been that I have spoken mainly for the young people. First-timers might think that Teacher Moon of the Unification Church truly speaks quickly, centering on the young, but I could just as well speak slowly, centering on older people.

However, the average age of those gathered here seems to be only about thirty, so it has turned out this way; therefore, even if it is rude to the older ones, I ask that you understand.

Those who have come here for the first time will say, “So that fellow over there is the so-and-so everyone talked about.” That is right. I am that so-and-so. (laughter) As you can see, this is how I look. From here on I ought to speak eloquently to be worthy of the occasion, but I am not sure whether I can. Gathering guests packed into this narrow room and packing the church full of many people to give a message—I cannot help but be rude to you. So even if it is a bit hard, I ask you to bear with it.

Well then, how long shall we set the time for the message?

Ordinarily, when lecturing at a public event in a country like America, the lecture is at most an hour. Please keep it to an hour and twenty minutes. But since the Teacher has come here for the first time, about an hour would be just right. What about you?

How long would you like it to be?

If you asked me to speak for a long time, it would be fine, but the Teacher does not know how many hours is a lot. The Teacher’s record for a long message is eleven hours and forty-five minutes. I have gone even that far. The Teacher had thought that twelve hours and five minutes had passed, but they said the clock was wrong. They said it was twelve hours less fifteen minutes.

Since I have such a record, if you say, Let us do one hour, I will do one hour; if you say two hours, I will do two hours. There is no need even to ask the Unification Church members. This asking is for the sake of the newcomers.

This is Suwon, is it not? (Yes) Last night it rained, so I thought, “Oh dear, now that I am about to go to Suwon, the water is coming again.” What character is the “su” in Suwon? (It is the character for water.) The character “won” is not the “won” meaning source, but the “won” meaning knoll, is it not? It rained until dawn, but when I came to Suwon in the morning, the weather had cleared, so I felt good. Driving along the roads after rain is very refreshing. Yet even though I felt good looking at nature like this, if I feel bad looking at the people, then it is a failure. Of course, the people of Suwon are all good people, so it will not be so.

Nature was good, and the people were good, so the message ought to be good too; but for the Teacher to speak eloquently, I need your help. This time, at least, is my time, regardless of what anyone says.

However great a person may be present here, he must listen to my words. Because there is no time, for this time at least you must think that you have sold your eyes and ears to me. And I too, however hard it is, must speak. So for this time, your ears, and eyes and my mouth must give and receive well with one another.

Our Era Is Approaching, but the Lack of Capable People Is a Grave Concern

This world is now in a complicated situation. The problem of Vietnam, the problem of the Soviet Union centering on China and Communist China, and the problem of Israel in the Middle East—the world is burdened with very complicated problems.

If things keep going on this way, America too will reach the stage where it must yield the leading authority of the democratic world. When I ask what the difference was between when the Teacher went to America four years ago and this time, of course the world situation has changed, but the public opinion of the American people has changed.

I also met people of some renown in Christian circles, and when I sum up their assessments, they say that America has now lost the capacity to lead the democratic world. Even looking at the Vietnam War, that assessment is correct. The time when America could lead this world by establishing some policy or through the emergence of some special leader has already passed. It was frequently said that in the future, even sustaining America itself will not be possible by the strength of the American people.

Since America is like that, the whole world too can do nothing by the strength of human beings alone. So I heard many say that unless something specific emerges to lead us into a new world, the future of humanity is bleak.

Our Unification Church members are so zealous that they would feel slighted to be called anything less than the most zealous in the world. Young women and young men alike, all of them are like this. From that standpoint, as one who takes responsibility for guiding the Unification Church, what I felt when I looked all around the world was that the time is coming toward us all too quickly.

Today the Republic of Korea treats the Unification Church as insignificant, but that is because they do not know it well. From now on, the Unification Church will become more and more famous. Throughout Europe, people of considerable rank know “Mister Moon” well. Wherever the Teacher goes, many people want to meet me through a telephone call. But being busy, I cannot meet them and just come away. Seeing this—that is, seeing it centered on the ideology of our Unification Church, on our purpose—I could tell that today the world is approaching us all too quickly.

So the grave problem that remains is how to handle this. To handle it, we must put forward men or women who can handle it; but how many true men are there here now who can handle such worldwide problems? If anyone thinks he himself could do it, raise your hand.

From this standpoint, how to reinforce our human resources centering on our mission cannot but be a great problem. So as the Teacher traveled around the world, I assigned that field to the personnel at our missionary headquarters, gave directions, and came back. To put it in a word, the fortune of the age is tilting toward Korea. Just watch. The worldwide fortune of the age is destined to tilt toward Korea in the future. It is so because the fortune of Heaven has been arranged that way.

I regard even the Vietnam War as being quite advantageous for us Koreans. Externally it can be considered a period of training, and internally it can be considered a period in which we can replenish ourselves. But in any case, the point of resolution for our problems returns to us, so we must know that the mission of our Unification Church is precious.

The Ideal World All Humanity Commonly Longs For

At present, this world is establishing worldwide ideologies centering respectively on the thought of democracy and of communism and is trying to build a single ideal world that all humanity commonly longs for. Yet the world, which had been looking outward, is now tending to fall back into a nationalistic standpoint. This is so even looking at Japan. Japan is now trying to split into three factions. Some people say, Let us go into the communist bloc, and there are also people moving toward the democratic bloc. And some people say, let us return to the imperialist age of old. But looking at Japan itself, the old imperialist age has already passed. Our Republic of Korea must not follow such a course.

The world is advancing to realize a single ideal world. That is why, if one now moves only for the happiness of the people of one country, or of one nation alone, one cannot keep pace with a modern age that has gone beyond that ideal, and one falls behind and is left out. One is bound to collapse. The present time is not a time when a single country can revive centering on itself.

Then what kind of world is that ideal world people long for?

What does “ideal” mean here?

It is the world that all humanity throughout the whole world commonly longs for and likes, regardless of nation or state. And the word “everyone” here includes not only people but all things on the earth.

Animals and plants too have a world they like and long for—that is, an ideal world. Even a puppy raised at home recognizes its master. The moment it sees its master, the puppy is delighted. Just as animals are pleased when you love them, plants too grow better when you play music for them or sing to them as they grow.

Just looking at the people gathered here, they are all a display of creation.

Gathering people together in one place is truly a fine sight. It is splendid. Old or young, they are good to look at when they smile. But the grandmother whose teeth have fallen out should not smile. Now then, if we can realize such an ideal world that human beings long for and all things like, how must the Owner of this heaven and earth feel? He will be even more pleased than we are.

Is such an ideal world truly necessary for us human beings living today?

It was necessary from the very first human ancestor. Every person, without exception, wishes from birth to live well. Where is there a person who does not? Therefore, our very first ancestor—in Christian terms, this would be Adam—he too must have longed for the ideal world.

Then why has this become a problem only now?

If from long ago all people had held such a thought, the ideal world would have been realized in that age. If there is a God who made this world, why did God make such a complicated and troublesome world and only now cause human beings to speak of ideals and such?

How good it would have been if people had realized the ideal world from the very beginning. Had they done so, God too would have been pleased, and all your ancestors would have been pleased. So how have we come to be placed in such a reality?

If God is an omniscient and omnipotent God, why does He not just deal with this world as He pleases and instead leave it as it is until now?

We must now solve the problems that have until now gone unsolved on the historical plane, the social plane, and so forth. Now we are trying to solve this and go searching for the ideal world.

Even If the Ideal World Is Realized, It Is Misery If It Has No Relation to Me

Then what would it be like if the ideal world were realized? Would we be miserable, or happy?

If the ideal world comes, human beings will be happy. Do you like happiness or not? (We like it.) How much do you like it? Having one hundred and ten won is better than having one hundred won. It is when things become like that that one can feel happiness. Having a billion won is a bit happier than having a hundred million won, and having a hundred billion won is happier than having ten billion won.

Then where is the boundary line of that happiness?

When a pupil in elementary school gets to enter middle school, he feels good and wants to boast. That very moment is a happy time, but does that happiness have a limit or not?

If it does, then just where is the boundary line of happiness? You must know this. For example, even when you board a car, you must board it with a destination in mind—going to Daegu, or to Busan, or to Mokpo.

If a person just goes without any destination, that person has gone wrong. In the same way, when you eagerly await happiness, there must be a terminal point of happiness. Do you know where that place is?

Yet no matter how well the ideal world is realized, what use is it if I dislike it? Is that not so? No matter how completely the ideal world is realized, if it has no relation to me, what happiness is there in it? In the end, I am the problem. Therefore, the ideal world too must have content that relates to me.

The Limitless Desire of Human Beings

How much happiness do you wish for?

You can know this by looking at your hearts. When you see pitiful people, does the thought arise in your hearts of wanting to buy houses for them all and buy them fine cars? Is it so for the women too? (Yes.) Is it really so? (Yes.)

Originally, everyone holds such a thought in their heart, but they cannot do it because, in reality, it is not possible. Suppose you gave every single person in the Republic of Korea some ten million won each, had them build houses, and set them up to live as rich people. Thereafter, would the desire arise to do the same for all the people of the world, or not? (It would arise.) Is it so for the grandmother here too? (Yes.)

If you had made all three billion people of the whole world happy in this way, then next, if people were living on the moon or on the stars, you would want to do the same even for them. And if you held Korea in your grasp and could do with it as you pleased, then you would come to want to make America, which is bigger than Korea, your own as well. In this way, human desire has no limit.

If a person was born a man, everyone will at least once have had the thought of wanting to become president. Every human being was born endowed with the qualification of a candidate who could become president. But only one person becomes president.

If you became the president of a great country like America, would your heart be satisfied? It would not. You would also want to make many of the world’s nations your own. And so you would want to become the president of the world.

But even if you became the president of the world in that way, how would your heart feel when you learned that on a star revolving around the earth, jewels lay piled high and gold mines and diamonds were everywhere? Then you would want to possess even that. And if you conquered the moon and the stars, what then? Having conquered even that far, would your heart now rest content? It would move again.

Where on earth does such a heart have its root, that it drives such desire?

Here we must resolve this problem and move on. Such a heart is present in grandfathers, grandmothers, women, and men alike. If you had made this universe your own, and there were something even bigger than this universe, the desire would arise to make even that your own. Every human being, without exception, has such a desire.

The people of the Republic of Korea especially will have such a heart all the more. When Koreans speak of foreigners, they readily attach the suffix “nom”—“the Japanese nom,” “the Chink nom,” “the Soviet nom.” That much boldness Koreans have. In other nations’ languages, there is no such expression.

When a person sees something bigger than what he has, he wants to have it. A person who does not want it is a person who is only half-made. You might say, “That fellow is a cripple; what would he do having it?”—but such a person is not one who does not want it. Such people like it all the more.

Why the Human Mind Aims for the Highest

Then what is the most valuable, the highest, the most precious being in this universe?

If there were such a thing, would you want to have it or not? (We want to have it.) Then, to have it, could you cast away all your money, no matter how much? (Yes.) If you could bring such a thing back, you would have to buy it even at the cost of the Republic of Korea.

If I say this, someone might call me a traitor to the nation, but even so, it must be bought. To give up the country is bad, but once you have bought it in this way, it is good. Such a person is precisely a patriot.

All your hearts are like this. It is because the mind pursues and comes out following this “mind” that it is so. Then, if there is an Owner of the Cosmos (천주), would you want to take possession of that Owner or not? (We want to.) A while ago the president went somewhere, and you too would have wanted to go along following the president. That is not an evil thing. It is a good thing. Human beings are made that way. In this manner, the mind, if there is an Owner of the universe, wants to take possession of that Owner. In this way, the goal at which this mind aims is enormous.

If someone were to take possession of God, what would you do?

Would you go to look, or would you go to snatch Him back?

If you were to snatch Him back, would there be a way to do so? Would there be, or not? There could be, and there could not be. But even if someone took possession of God and enshrined Him in the inner room of his house, would God dwell only there? Because God is a God of love, it is not so. God’s love cannot be taken possession of in such a way. So there is a way to snatch Him back again.

Teacher Moon of the Unification Church, too, if he had no love, would not have become the teacher of the Unification Church. You are caught in the only snare of love. To say this is rude to you, but I say it to make it feel real. It is enough that, caught in the snare of love, the Teacher and you become bound by a relationship.

Then again, what on earth is the mind making such a fuss to do?

Think about it. What the mind desires and desires and desires again, is not to see the face of God. As for the face, whether you see it a hundred times or a thousand times, it is the same. Then what on earth does it desire? It is that only love within the absolute and almighty God. If we can take possession of this love of God alone, we can take possession of God. Then the world God made all becomes mine. It becomes the possession of everyone who can take part in it.

Even children attending kindergarten call the place where their parents and brothers and sisters live together “our house.” Strictly speaking, is that house the child’s house? It is the house of the child’s mother and father. But even so, when the child says this, is there anyone who says anything about it? There is no one. Why is there no one? It is because that child is bound to the cord of the parents’ love. That is, when the cord of love is connected, the mother’s and father’s things become the children’s things. This is so even for an elementary school pupil, and so even for a middle school student.

If children came home from school, flung down their book-bundles, and along with their friends said, “This is our house, so let us cook and eat here,” and ate up all the food in the house, would the mother and father feel bad? Come to think of it, this is a robber, and among robbers, a fierce one at that. Without warning, they bring friends and dish everything out, do they not? Yet still the mother and father are pleased. It is because all of these are connected by the cord of love.

The Position That Has Captured God’s Love Is the Position of Highest Happiness

Once you grasp the cord called love, not only the president of the Republic of Korea but the president of any nation is helpless. Suppose the wife of some nation’s president is an uneducated person who did not even finish elementary school. Even if a woman who is utterly illiterate and foolish became the First Lady, could a university professor come before her and say, “I am a university professor, so learn a little from me”? No matter how much of a professor he is, before that woman he must bend his waist, and even when leaving he must bow and go out backward. Why is that? Though she is uneducated, she can claim rights equal to the president.

Then how did she come to possess the privilege of being able to claim rights equal to the president?

It is because she formed a bond of love with the president. This thing called love is a fearsome thing. Once this bond of love is formed, one holds equal standing. Not only that—one even comes to receive dominion. What does this mean? The gentlemen sitting here so dignified might wonder how one dominates a partner through love, but even such men will be unable to budge before their wives and will be dominated. (laughter)

As for what love looks like, you cannot see its form. But once it works, it leaves behind a splendid masterpiece. Do people like such a thing or not? (We like it.)

If there is anyone who does not like it, let all such people just die. Even if you put God into a secret vault a thousand fathoms, ten thousand fathoms deep, and lock it with however great a lock so that no human being could meet Him for hundreds of millions of ages, as long as you hold the cord of love, you can meet God. And I can be equal to God. Going further, I can even hold dominion over God. From a beloved son, one can receive dominion. By the law of the great power of love, one can be equal and level, and one can hold dominion.

Therefore, do not boast because your present position is high, and do not lose heart because it is low. Once entangled in this cord of love, even one in a high place can be the lowest, and even one in a low position does not always remain low. The one who is in a low position can rise to the very highest.

Where is the highest terminal point that the mind desires, of which Teacher Moon of the Unification Church speaks?

Where is that one point of purpose at which the mind at last sets down its bundle and can say, “Now at last all is at peace? I have achieved the highest purpose I had to fulfill, so I shall live for a thousand years, ten thousand years; let all people take me as their model and follow the path I have walked.” It is the position where one can take possession of God’s love, the position where one can form a relationship with Heaven.

Why does the mind try to do great, good, and virtuous things?

It is because human beings are aiming for that one point of purpose. Since the mind of the people is the very mind of Heaven, the original mind of a person is all drawn toward that place; yet because human beings do not know the path they should walk, they naturally lead lives of lament, and we must know that this world has become a sea of suffering.

What is the Unification Church a place for?

It is not a place to meet Teacher Moon here. It is not a place to ask you to contribute money. It is a place to seek the position where one can receive God’s love, if God’s love truly exists.

The Position Where One Can Receive God’s Love

Then where is the position where one can receive God’s love?

Love is one. Therefore, that position too is the one and only. If there is a position where one can be loved and a path by which one can be loved, will you go, or not? (We will go.) What is it? It is the position of a child before its parents.

If some parents have four sons, would those parents put a difference in love among the four sons? I mean, would they say, “Because you are the eldest son, I will give you this much love, and you younger ones each receive only this much,” putting a difference between them?

Even when nursing, there are no parents who make a difference among their children in feeding them. That milk supplies blood and flesh to the children. So it is arranged to supply it to every child, one by one. A mother is pleased to see her nursing baby suckle at her breast. She is also very pleased when, while nursing, the child clings to the mother’s neck and does so. The mother is pleased even as she gives her milk to the child. There is no mother in the world who, in giving her milk, demands money, saying, “Until today it was such-and-such a price, and from tomorrow it is such-and-such a price.”

And another interesting thing is this: even if that mother has an ugly face, even if she has not a single feminine feature—eyes, nose, mouth, cheeks, all of it ugly—when it comes to loving her sons and daughters, she is intense. When it comes to loving her nursing baby, she is more intense than anyone. In loving her baby, does it seem she would lose to anyone? She would not lose.

Do parents know how to love their children because they learned it at school?

Have you seen a school that teaches such a thing? And is there anyone who has learned it? It is something one knows without learning it. A man and a woman did not learn how to meet and bear a child. In the family, too, for two strangers to meet, form the bond of husband and wife, and build one family is not something learned from anyone. Love is not something one knows because someone taught it, nor is it something whose taste one knows because it was brought and fed to you, saying, “It is like this,” nor is it something one knows by experimenting.

In the old days too, no place taught this, and from now on, even to the descendants of tens of millions of generations, no school that teaches this can appear.

If you consider what happiness is for a human being, someone might say, “I am the such-and-such-generation descendant of so-and-so, so when I go to my village, I can stick out my chest and swagger, and even in the middle of the night, if I call out, ‘Hey there!’ something is brought before me, so I have nothing to envy. And since at home I am an only son, I am a happy man.” Yet that person, while being like that out in the world, comes home and scolds his wife for coming home late—“Where did you go? You should be home by five o’clock; why did you come at seven?”—so is that person truly a happy man?

Then where does happiness come from?

Where does the kind of environment come from where one is met with humming a tune? It comes from the family. The happiness of a family cannot be realized if there is an emotional problem. And it cannot be realized either if there is no heart (심정), no love. It may seem the Teacher is just talking on without any topic, but right now I am speaking about happiness and love.

Humanity Must Find the Path of Happiness

If I asked those who want to be happy to raise their hands, probably everyone would raise them. But if I asked those who want to be miserable to raise their hands, there would not be a single one who raises a hand. There is no need to ask such a thing. All people will want to be happy.

Then at present, are you happy or miserable? (We are happy.) Then those of you who answered that you are happy, how are you happy? (We are happy centering on God’s love.)

Can God’s love be known by words alone?

One must taste it to know it. (It tastes delicious.) (laughter) In your case, you say you are happy because you think God exists; but if there were no God and you were all alone by yourself, you would not feel happiness. In your feeling happiness, God plays an indirect role. So if you leave God out of it, it is of no use.

What do we call the present time? We call it the Last Days, do we not?

What are the Last Days?

That phrase means the time when it is all over—that is, the time when there is no one who wants to live. It means the marketplace is closing down. When the market is closing, is there anyone who comes and spreads out his wares? In the same way, the Last Days means the time when one has lived out all one wanted to live, so that now one no longer wishes to live and wants to depart—the time when the market breaks up.

To what do people commonly compare human life?

People usually say life is a wanderer, and say it is like a sea of suffering. Seeing them say such things, we come to know the fact that the three billion people of humanity living in this world are living unhappily. Therefore, you too are living unhappily, and you must find the path by which you can become happy.

If there is a path by which one can become happy at such a time, well and good; but if there is none, what will you do? For example, if there is a person whose leg hurts, that leg must be made to stop hurting. It is because when it hurts, one is unhappy. But if there is no such method, what will you do?

Only a Religion That Can Introduce the World of Happiness and the Ideal Is a True Religion

A trifling church called the Unification Church has appeared, but how do you know that the Teacher standing here speaking is not perhaps a swindler?

Do not believe. He has a fine enough physique, his manner of speaking is a bit fast, and he looks like someone whose weight is over a hundred kilograms—how do you know whether such a person, while speaking like this today, is preparing to go far away and live well by himself alone? Even so, is it all right? (Yes, it is all right.) That is why they call you crazy. (laughter)

Unification Church food must not be eaten all at once. Do not try to gulp it all down just because it tastes delicious; at first, eat it for about three days, and if you do not get diarrhea, eat a little more; and thereafter, if you do not get diarrhea, eat a little more; and after that too, if you do not get diarrhea, then eat it for about a week. If after that too you have no trouble and your body is well, then eat a lot. Once you have done that, from then on your desire will grow, and you will try again to make it your own.

Here in Suwon, the Teacher would like to return in about an hour. How do your hearts feel? You want the Teacher to sleep here and go tomorrow, do you not? Shall I sleep and go, or go tonight? (Please sleep and go.)

If I sleep here, then you will say stay just one more day and go, and if I stay one more day, you will say it would be good if I stayed just a week. Is that so, or not? (It is so.) And then in the end the words will come out that it would be good if I were always here. That is precisely a thief’s disposition.

Does the Unification Church need the Teacher?

Do you need the Teacher? You absolutely do. Then does the Teacher need you? Does the Teacher absolutely need you too? What do you think? He does. Once caught on this condition alone, one cannot budge an inch.

Looking at the world, you can see many people who quarrel among brothers. Some people quarrel among brothers over a little money and, in some cases, even go to court and live forever as enemies. And then, when one of the two dies, only then do they come and weep more bitterly than anyone else. Why is that so? It is because they are brothers born of one set of parents. So even enemies must in the end be reconciled and become one. Otherwise, it is unhappy.

The Teacher too is a religious leader, but all these things must be burned away. Yet until human beings are completely restored, religion is necessary. And in fact, kneeling on the wooden floor at church and crying “Father” may not suit the temperament of young people, but once you come in, you find there is a new heaven and earth, and it does not feel bad.

Then what on earth is a church a place for doing?

It is a place that introduces the ideal world that turns an unhappy world into a happy world. It is a place that teaches worldwide the content by which one can live a happy life and an ideal life. A religion that cannot teach such content need not be followed.

The ultimate purpose of all religions is to realize such a world. The purpose for which today’s statesmen of the world gather, rack their brains, hold meetings, and debate is also how to build an ideal world that makes all people happy. That is, they are thinking about how to build a kingdom of peace in which all the people of the world can live as brothers within it. Therefore, a religion that cannot introduce such a thing should be made to pack up its bundle and shoulder it away. Whether the Unification Church can do this, I do not know.

The Source of Human Misery

Looking at things centering on the human mind, why is the human mind arranged to be so agitated?

Where is the highest resting place, the nest, where that mind can dwell? That place is where God’s love is. Therefore, human beings must without fail recover the lost love of God.

A while ago you said you were miserable, but why are you miserable? Do you have no parents? Or have you had no food to eat? Or have you contracted a disease that keeps you from marrying? Why do you say you are miserable? You seem miserable enough, but you don't understand why you are miserable. You are miserable because you live fighting every day. Husbands and wives fight well, brothers fight well, and within yourselves too you fight well. You are all quarrelers. When we look at ourselves, a person such as So-and-so Kim is not one person. He is made of two—the person of the mind and the person of the body—and this person of the mind and person of the body are fighting. That is why one is miserable.

The very source of misery is me. Has there ever been a single moment when the mind of my body was at peace? This body and mind are always fighting. For example, waking in the middle of the night, remembering the dumpling your younger sibling set down by the pillow last night, you rise and, thinking, “Even if it disappears, who is to know I ate it?” you reach out your hand. At such a time the mind says, “You rascal, you still have not come to your senses,” and prevents it—you will have experienced such a case. The mind and body have such a relationship. You must know this.

We take So-and-so Kim to be Kim himself, or So-and-so Park to be Park himself, but it is not so. It is not an “I” that I can do with as I please. That I cannot do with it as I please would be one thing, but the body and mind are quarreling and squabbling every day. When this fight will end, no one knows. There is no greater misery for a human being. Our ancestors a thousand years ago were like this, and unless God’s Will is realized, our descendants a thousand years hence will also have to fight this same fight. And this fight cannot be broken up either, so when this fight will end is the anguish of human beings.

Today, no matter how much human beings gather and dream of world peace and strive for it, before long they fight again. You can see this even by looking at the communists. They insist that once a communist world comes, it will become an equal world and so on, yet even before entering that stage, they do nothing but fight.

If there are two people in one family, the quarrelers split into four, and if there are five members, they become ten. Since the population of the Republic of Korea is thirty million, sixty million quarrelers are living here, and since humanity is 3.6 billion, 7.2 billion quarrelers are living in the world.

So does it seem there would be peace here? It is an absurd notion. There is no knowing when that thief’s disposition will turn over. Does it seem there would be peace and happiness and a sweet nest in such a place?

One Must Establish the Kingdom of Heaven in One’s Own Mind

Then by what strategy will the omniscient and omnipotent God make this world peaceful?

Where will God Himself find the basis of peace?

It is neither America, nor the Soviet Union, nor any other nation. That place is the original mind of the human being. That means to throw away all the myriad things of the world and return to the standard of the original mind. It means to go inside oneself. That is why Jesus said the Kingdom of God is within your heart. Therefore, unless the goodness within our minds is liberated, an ideal world or a world of happiness is impossible.

What is religion?

It is that which determines this historical standard. A religion that cannot determine this historical standard is unnecessary. If the omniscient and omnipotent God merely stood by and watched human beings sink in dire misery, that God would be the one to be struck by lightning. Then what must God do? He must guide such people onto the path of peace. And there must remain, in the process of history, traces of His having tried to guide human beings onto the path of peace. When we ask whether He did such work or not—if He did not, how cruel a being God would be. But the trace of His having done such work is precisely religion.

You will know this from studying history, but when you look at the history of all the cultures of the world, that which forms their ideological backing is religion. Human history and religion are related by a common destiny. Sometimes running ahead of the age and sometimes falling behind it, it has continued down to now.

Therefore, religion is the foundation by which God can realize the ideal world and the ideal Kingdom of Heaven. What that religion teaches is only one thing. It teaches God. It teaches to love God. To say this may sound like empty nonsense, but the original mind of a human being seeks out the God who created humanity and created this universe. So religion must teach the Principle of God. Up to now, there is no teaching greater than the one Jesus taught.

In the word “religion (jonggyo),” the character “jong” is the character meaning ridgepole. Religion means the ridgepole teaching—that is, the teaching that serves as the main beam. If so, what more could there be beyond teaching God’s love? Is there any place that teaches anything higher than this?

God has said to humanity all along, “Believe in Me.” There is nothing but this.

Looking at me as an individual, or at the human being itself, the highest standard that human desire, or the human conscience, longs for is to take possession of God and to take possession of God’s love. What teaches this summit, for which human beings hope most highly, is religion. And among religions, Christianity, which teaches God’s love, is the highest religion of all. The higher a religion, the more it emphasizes God, reveres this absolute Creator of the universe, and comes forth teaching His love. Where these are absent, it is a false religion.

Therefore, our minds must take possession of God and enter into the position of God’s love. The movement that teaches this content remains as a trace in history, and this is religion.

Today, upon this earth there are countless religions. Because humanity is scattered, in trying to gather it in, there naturally arise religions suited to each people. Because each has a different history and environment, a different cultural background, customs, and habits, to gather these many forms into one purpose, there must be countless denominations.

For example, consider a river: in its upper reaches, there are countless tributaries. As these countless tributaries flow down and down, they merge, their number gradually decreasing, and finally become one river that flows into the great sea. In the same way, the countless religions too merge into one stream and finally come to abide as one at the place that enshrines God in the heart and takes possession of God’s love.

Human Beings Are the Object Partner of God’s Love

Then can God love all by Himself, alone?

If some person sat alone and said, “Ah, I love; it is good,” that person is out of his mind. The word “love” is a word spoken with a reciprocal relationship. Without a reciprocal relationship, the word “love” cannot be spoken. Therefore, God’s love too must have an object partner; and what kind of thing would that object partner be? Would it be an animal like a horse, an ox, or a pig? Or would it be a plant on the mountain? What would it be? (It is people.) Because I am asking people, they answer that it is people. If you went and asked in the world of beasts, in the world of horses, they would answer that it is beasts or horses. (laughter)

Then let us compare animals and people once. First, what is it that differs between animals and people?

People walk upright, and animals crawl. To stand upright means to be a center. It means one is squarely fitted. There is only one center. However many worlds there may be, their center is one. A tree, too, stands upright, but its root and its top are inverted. It is the opposite of a person. As for a person, where is the root? Close your eyes and think. That is something you must think through before you speak. For a person, the head is the root. What is nearest to God is the head of a person.

Look at the eyes: a person’s eyes are arranged to gaze horizontally. But an animal’s eyes are round and flat, without life, and arranged to gaze below forty-five degrees. Furthermore, animals have no eyebrows. Is that not so? Eyebrows are there to protect the eyes, but animals do not have them. Even considering the voice, an ox, though thousands and tens of thousands of years pass, can neither produce the sound of a cicada nor has ears that can distinguish that sound. But a person can distinguish and produce all fifty thousand kinds of sounds. He can speak English, French, and German. Even if there were ten thousand languages in the world, he could do them all.

Even looking at the vocal cords, in the animal world, one might have vocal cords fit to be called king, yet as for the hands, an animal cannot use its hands as a human being does. And a human being can discern the before and after, front and back, left and right of a task, can form three-dimensional conceptions, and can carry out any thought until reaching a realm of stability.

Seeing it this way, what is the being God would want to love in this world?

Whom has God been running toward all this while? It is the human being. However much a human being says he dislikes it, that object partner cannot be apart from the human being. Is there any objection to this? Since human beings have risen this high, the Teacher feels good too.

If God is the subject partner of love, the human being is the object partner before that subject that eternally cannot be dispensed with.

Then, even in our human beings receiving God’s love, would God want it that God is the king and human beings receive love from the position of the subjects of that kingdom? Or would He want to love human beings in the position of servants? He wants neither of the two.

Human Beings Desire to Receive God’s Love from the Position of a Son

Centering on love, in what position can God and human beings form a relationship?

You must know clearly what kind of position that is. That position is the position of the parent-child relationship. The position where one can form a relationship of love with God is that position alone. Is there any objection to this? On closer look, human beings are this great. So they are entitled to talk big. Since human beings have risen that high, the Teacher feels good. You feel good too, do you not? (Yes.)

The root of the universe is precisely this parent-child relationship. Therefore, if you ask ten million people what path our original mind travels, they will answer that it is the path traveled to make God one’s own and to take possession of God’s love. Even if there are ten sons, there is no difference in the parents’ love for each individual son. When all people unite their minds and actions and come to call God “Father,” an earnest love flows out from the pitiful Father.

What use is it to be rich?

When the love that wells up from the marrow of the bones, passing through the heart (심정) of a mother and father, soaks into the child—this is the highest point of happiness where a human being can dwell, and it is the original homeland of the human mind. Today human beings must know this clearly.

Seeing it from this standpoint, today there are many trifling religions in this world, but the Unification Church must not become like that.

Then what kind of religion is the highest religion?

You must know well the highest religion and seek such a religion.

If you rush blindly to just any religion, you are in for trouble. You must move according to a conclusion reached by thinking and judging well. Would you rather become God’s son-in-law or His son? (A son.)

Which would the women rather become, God’s daughter or His daughter-in-law?

Whichever you become, it is all the same. It means all are God’s children. You need only prepare yourself and enter such a position. To enter that position, you must have a religion. Otherwise, you will be struck by lightning. My emphasizing this is not speaking with any basis at all.

The Unification Church Teaches the Way to Live with God Eternally

Then in all this heaven and earth, has there been anyone who formed such a bond and lived with God for a thousand years, ten thousand years?

Had there been, from that time, the door of happiness would have opened for the world. But until now there has been no such person. This is the problem. Because the Unification Church teaches this complicated inner problem, the members cling all the more closely.

The Teacher walks this path because he has a rough fate.

If the Teacher went out into the world now, he could do any kind of work without losing to anyone. Then why on earth is he doing the reviled work of being the Teacher of the Unification Church?

His physique too is at least above average for a man—so why on earth is he playing the role of the reviled Teacher of the Unification Church?

It is because there is no one but the Teacher to do this work. If there is anyone somewhere who can do it, come forward once. I will hand it over to that person. But even if I handed it over, within three days they would all run away.

The Teacher would like to be liberated from this work once. Doing such work, I have let all my flower-like youth flow away. My silently enduring reviling and vexing and unjust things is not because I am less capable than others. It is because I know—I know all too much. To know too much is also to be a fool, is it not? Then you would be following a fool—but is that all right even so? (Yes.) While those who are called capable, the fellows who are no fools, are unable to live well, if we fools live together and gradually get better, then those who are no fools will come to watch, and will come to learn, saying they too will take us as their model.

Out in the world they call Unification Church members crazy. But is that a problem? In America they say, Ah, that person called Teacher Moon of the Unification Church holds joint weddings and gives education, they say. The Teacher will have to go to America and hold joint weddings for all the American people. It does not feel bad.

If, in the Unification Church, we have a blue-eyed woman marry a Korean man in a joint wedding and bring her to our country, it would be gorgeous. There are men too with very fine eyes. Looking at their eyes, they are like a lake, such that one feels like bathing right in them without even taking off one’s clothes. Looking quietly at a certain blonde beauty wife, she is taller than I am. It would be good if she were a bit shorter. And with the blonde hair fluttering in the wind, I felt bad. From an Oriental person’s standpoint, one would feel bad. Koreans, however large their physiques, are overawed by them. That is why those people, having built up world culture until now, hold out as the world’s first-rank people.

In their eyes, Koreans are reflected as insignificant. Even being fellow Orientals, the Japanese people do not regard Koreans favorably. It is so even now. And yet this person called Teacher Moon of Korea—just what kind of person is he? That person is this man here before you, the one you are looking at. Look at how small the eyes of the Teacher of the Unification Church are. That is why he is fearless. With small eyes and speech that is very fast, he looks like no ordinary man.

What Did You Come to the Unification Church to Do

In the old days, when the Teacher was struck once by anyone, he could not rest until he had taken revenge within three days. Even if I had to go before that person’s mother and father, I would not sleep at night until I had made them surrender. I am a person with such a nature. The day anyone laid a hand on me, whether you were ruined or I was ruined, I would fight, staking my life, and would absolutely not retreat until I had subdued my opponent. That is why, the day the Teacher lays a hand on the established churches too, he will resolve many difficult problems. Once I resolve on something, I resolve to stake my life.

Because the Teacher has such a nature, he does such work today. A trifling person could not do this work. A trifling person would give up along the way. But the Teacher, though he has reached fifty, is still walking on. There are many young people here, but in every respect the Teacher is better than you by 4.99 out of 5. To say this might seem like slighting the young people, but that is the fact. Even at sports, I am better. Beginning with soccer, I am good at every sport. For a person to become great, he must know how to do anything.

You must walk this path in earnest. Even if reviled, it cannot be helped. Since God is so, the Teacher cannot help it either. When speaking, one must speak as fluently as flowing water. The Teacher scolds you a great deal. Even so, you must say, “There are times when scolding too is good. Among foods, the spicy, the salty, the bitter—these all become seasoning, so let me be the seasoning.” Even so, is it good for people to eat only tasty things? If you eat only what suits your palate, you will fall ill. You must eat a mixture of various things.

Everyone, I feel grateful that our Unification Church has come this far. Whatever anyone says, the Teacher is not caught by it. Even now, though some person hurls unbearable reviling and I suffer all manner of things, I pray to God that I will do anything at all, if it is a thing that makes the Republic of Korea prosper. I am a person born to do this work.

What sort of thing happens is this: there are packs who, simply because they cannot manage to kill me, spread all manner of slander; and when such a person is on the road, though I had no such thought, from my mouth pops out, “You thief!” When I say a single such word, that person collapses in utter ruin within seven months. He is finished. Seeing that, it seems God is close with Teacher Moon.

When I merely prostrate myself and pray, the tails of the packs opposing me twist and topple over. So I do not pray for revenge on my enemies. Even if a person opposing me passes right by on the street, I am unruffled. But the other party hides himself. It is because he has something on his conscience that he does so.

This is how I have lived. Now I have put on this much plump flesh, and my weight, reckoned in gwan, comes to nearly twenty gwan. But do not think I lived by fleecing the Unification Church people. Not at all. If anything, I earned and fed the Unification Church members; I absolutely never became a burden to them.

Then what did you come to the Unification Church to do?

You say you came to live happily? How do we know whether the Unification Church is a happy place? If you follow the reviled Teacher Moon, you will get reviling and little else. Is it all right even to be reviled? Is it all right to be reviled? (Yes.) Is it all right to be beaten? (Yes.) Is it all right to be driven out? (Yes.) Good.

The Principle and the Wealth of the Unification Church

We need only to do one thing. We need only become God’s sons and daughters. That is why in the Unification Church we say, “Let us become God’s sons and daughters.” There is no path but to become sons and daughters. In becoming God’s son, do not become the second son or the third son, but become the first son who is loved in the position nearest to God. To become sons and daughters loved as filial children—this is the principle of the Unification Church.

Then what is the wealth of the Unification Church?

Before, there was nothing whatsoever. The Teacher was penniless too. So I was the next thing to a pauper. But now we even have factories. With the money that foreigners send alone, one could eat and live for a whole lifetime. If I send a telegram abroad, they send even round-trip airplane tickets. There is nothing to envy.

This time too, as I traveled around some twenty-odd countries, I felt truly grateful. Because Teacher Moon of the Unification Church had come from Korea, in a corner of Asia, American people with yellow hair and blue eyes tried to lodge me in the very finest hotels, tried to treat me to the very finest food, and tried to pay for it all themselves. So the president of any country envies the Teacher. Whether I go to France or to Italy, it is the same. Wherever I go, is there no car? Is there no place to sleep? That is good enough, is it not? Since wherever I go there is a house and there is a car, what is there to envy?

The members of any country try to give the best thing under Heaven and try to let me sleep in the best place. No minister, no former president gets such treatment. Johnson, who was formerly president of America—is he not now shut away in Texas living an isolated life? Who acknowledges those people? Who would sincerely shed tears for that person, and if he did not eat, think, “Perhaps it is because I have sinned,” and stay up all night praying without sleep? Who would do that? It is a sorry state. Seeing such things, the Teacher has nothing to envy.

This time, when the Teacher was touring abroad, he went to Germany to marry off Westerners, and there a forty-two-year-old bachelor with missing teeth had been unable to marry and was waiting for the Teacher. He says that unless the Teacher of the Unification Church marries him off, he will absolutely never marry alone. Is it better for your parents to marry you off, or for Teacher Moon of the Unification Church to marry you off? What about you?

This is why there is such a fuss. So the Teacher takes all that reviling. What have you done so well that the Teacher should marry you off? The Teacher teaches you and takes the beating for it. If I had not taught you, I would not have to do this; but the red-faced fellows and the darkies and the yellows all push in their heads and ask the Teacher to marry them off. This is why we hold joint weddings.

Even if we held a wedding feast every single day, twelve months of the year, there would still be more than enough, so is there any method apart from the joint wedding? Still, one cannot carelessly do a wedding, which comes only once in a lifetime. So this time too, in America, we held a worldwide joint wedding and set out a great feast. And then I came back.

For that reason, I nearly died from lack of sleep. And even so, coming out on tour here again, the fatigue of the journey has still not been relieved.

Now, how many hours have passed?

It has been over an hour, I think. (It has been two hours.) It has already been two hours, you say? It seems like it has been only about thirty minutes. As the saying goes, absorbed in the play of the immortals, one does not notice the axe-handle rotting—that is what has become of me. But even so, I like you. Would I dislike you? Seeing such things, the Teacher feels grateful.

And yet young men and women who attach the label of a top-ranking university of an advanced country and count themselves first, people with such considerable credentials, are working, saying that if I asked them to die, they are resolved to die and will offer their lives. They are also resolved to enter even the den of Satan if told to enter. Seeing such things, the Teacher himself, coming back from holding the joint wedding, felt keenly how fearsome the ideology of the Unification Church is.

It means winding up Japan and winding up China and toppling them over. This is not a good thing, is it? Do I mean it is good or bad? (You mean it is good.) Those who cannot understand these words, it is all right if they do not. A people once cornered and driven in Asia, a people abused and persecuted, a foreign people whom the Japanese thought to bind forever in subjection—a time will come when they can forgive the Japanese and, putting them out in front, send them as pioneering workhands on their errands. The times are good, are they not?

Did the Teacher do well or badly?

As for the rest, I do not know whether I did well or badly, but at least this I did well. Is that not so? This at least you must approve.

I Endured All Things to Build a New World

The Teacher was subjected to countless tortures by Japanese detectives at the end of the Japanese occupation. A person who does not know how to love his country cannot love God either. That is why the Teacher carried out underground activities in Japan. To assist Kim Gu, I made contact even with Shanghai and did all manner of things.

In our Unification Church, many struggled from such a standpoint. When one who had waged such a struggle returned to his hometown, they would learn of it as if by uncanny sense—So-and-so has come back—and follow him about. As a result, many people were also banished.

The Teacher too crossed the borderline of death several times, vomiting blood. But in prison, for the sake of my responsibility and loyalty to the comrades who had worked together, I said I had fought alone, staking my life. Even threatened with death, I did not speak. When I say I will not speak, I do not speak.

Those who had been serving in the Seoul Metropolitan Police Station could have had their necks cut off the moment liberation came. But because they were leaving in ruin, shedding tears, I just let them go. Yet those who, knowing the situation had turned against them, burned up all the documents that could have shown the path our people should take, and departed.

Yet in Asia, Japan is a nation that cannot be ignored. You must know this. To spread a three-nation line in Asia, though Japan was defeated, Japan is surely a necessary nation. Even judging by national character, it will surely produce a united strength greater than that of the German people. So we must not take revenge. If we begin with revenge, it will end again in revenge, and so in the end we perish.

That is why the Unification Church, to build a new world, carried out a new movement of rallying together, centering on the Unification ideology, with the resolve that we must first save this nation and people. And yet the Teacher went in and came out of Seodaemun Prison in the days of the Liberal Party. The Liberal Party centered on Dr. Syngman Rhee and Park Maria—these people did not listen to the Teacher’s words. That is why in the end Korea has come to this. Had they listened to the Teacher’s words then, Korea would not have become as it is now.

The Chinese Communist Party too would have all melted away. And we could have stood shoulder to shoulder with the advanced nations running at the summit of the world.

Had that happened, the Teacher might not be in the position of speaking to you like this before you today. But since I received the bloodline of a people born with a mistaken fortune of the age, it cannot be helped.

So the Teacher had the mission to smooth out the hard road, meet a new fortune again, present a new guiding ideology to this Republic of Korea, and set a new direction in a troubled age. If this was a fault, it was a fault.

And so, when I went into and came out of prison in the days of the Liberal Party—you will have heard the rumors of the Ewha Womans University affair at that time—when you look at the newspapers, all sorts of rumors were carried in them, and it is truly amusing.

This is a treasure like gold, one that cannot be bought even for tens of billions.

They arbitrarily seized and imprisoned patriots of righteousness who, for the sake of righteousness and for the sake of the nation, had shed their blood and sweat, stayed up through the night for the thirty million people, and even sold their blood in trying to save these people.

Look, is what I say. In the future, their descendants may be seized and made to dig their forebears’ graves. If one gives their descendants a single speech—“Your parents opposed us in this way, so a wretched state befell our people and this result came about”—they will dig up their parents’ graves on the spot. The Teacher has the power to make that happen.

If the KBS Central Broadcasting Station were to entrust me with the microphone for just three or four days, I am confident I could make the thirty million people weep aloud. I have material enough for that. Even to the communists I can say, “When have you ever loved? We have striven this hard—I came out having gathered such material and handled it. And I came out silent about it all this while. Truth does not make excuses. Because I know that falsehood is added to excuses, I came out in silence. You Unification Church folks, do you understand? (Yes.)

The Difficult Missionary Work in Japan

Japan is an enemy nation, but because I had the conviction that such a Japan would in the future come to work for the sake of Korea, more than ten years ago, in the days of the Liberal Party, while a hunted man going into prison, taking money obtained on loan—where was there money in those days?—I put a missionary on a smuggling boat and sent him to Japan. Yet no one in the government knew of it.

So the Teacher, thinking, “Just wait ten years. I know this is an illegal act for a citizen of a nation under the rule of law, but surely a time will come in Asia when this can be done freely. For the sake of that time, even if I am now branded a traitor to the nation, I will do this work. A day will come when history vouches for this conviction and action of mine, grounded in such righteousness”—thinking thus, I resolutely carried it out. In those days the Unification Church members were all but starving. It was a situation of barely living day to day by selling photographs. And yet, obtaining a loan of about one and a half million won in today’s money, I put him on a smuggling boat and sent him.

Beforehand, at a temple called Gapsa in Chungcheong Province, the Teacher said to him, “Until you arrive safely, I will not sleep, and I will pray for you and offer devotion for you,” and told him not to appear until he had fulfilled his task, even if he should die. But when he went to Japan by way of Yeosu, he was caught and confined in the Omura Detention Camp. And so he came to be in the position of being sent back within a week. But could a man who had received a ticket from the Teacher and gone staking his life come back—should he die, then let him die? On the way to Shimonoseki to be repatriated, he tried to jump from the train, but he says the train’s speed was too fast and there were many tunnels, so he could not. And so, arriving at Shimonoseki, he was again confined in a detention camp and came to be in the position of merely awaiting repatriation.

Were that to happen, everything would collapse. So he came up with a scheme and fasted. Fasting, or rather a not-quite-fast, for a week, ten days, eating only salt, he came down with something like a fever and fainted, they say. Feigning illness in this way, and while hospitalized on the pretext of receiving treatment, he ran away. And in this way, doing missionary work, he produced the present seventy or eighty thousand warriors of the Unification Church. And so now the Japanese government has come to a point where it cannot do without the Unification Church.

A while ago, the Teacher met the public-information officer of the Korean embassy in Japan and gave him a scolding. I said, “I know that you people have criticized the Unification Church until now. But even now, when Japan is in a position of having to be indebted to the Unification Church, are you not still opposing it?” And he said, “From now on it will not be so.” He reported it that way a while ago. Now they feel grateful toward the Unification Church. So did the Teacher do well or badly? (You did well.) Now, if the Teacher merely gives an order, Japan does whatever the task may be.

It means the Unification Church holds the foundation by which it can seize and remove the communist fellows and the trifling packs of Japan. This will grow greater. Nearly sixty or seventy thousand sturdy young men have organized into an elite corps and are now preparing to clash head-on with the Japanese Communist Party.

So this time, by the Teacher’s intent, I gave directions on how to handle the Tokyo incident this way and that and came back. As for the problem of how, in the future, to crush the communist agents who oppose this, I exchanged views with prominent figures of Japan, drew up a plan for it, and have now come back. But as for who directed that the incident come about as it did, neither Japan nor Korea will know. When this becomes known, they will come to know that Teacher Moon of the Unification Church contributed for the sake of Japan. Now, little by little, they have come to know.

It is all right for the Unification Church to be driven back.

If Japan, which Communist China and the Soviet Union are eyeing, turns leftist, then what can Korea do? Where would a rat trapped in a jar go? It cannot but turn leftist.

Therefore, to turn this rightward, the Teacher is helping Japan. In Japan, even the politicians cannot take on an anti-communist coloring because of the communists. That is why, putting the Unification Church forward, we are giving anti-communist lectures in front of Chosen University. Right now the Principle Research Association is also fighting for this work.

The Purpose for Which We Struggle Overcoming Adversity in Japan

The economic figures of Japan’s business world say that for the Unification Church Principle Research Association folks to make their living by selling flowers and collecting scrap, staking their lives fighting in the streets, is too pitiful. It seems the intellectuals and financial magnates of Japan thought it was not the human way to make the Principle Research Association folks, whom their nation absolutely needs, work in such a pitiful position, so they convened the businessmen and said they would provide the money, so just do the work. Money! Money is not our purpose. In Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party too, learning that the Teacher had come to Japan, they inquired of the Teacher, “The Liberal Democratic Party would like to provide money through a certain channel; how about it?” So I asked them to forget it. When has the Unification Church ever been bought and sold for money?

And so this time a pack of Japanese businessmen, having received an invitation from our government, will come the day after tomorrow, on the twentieth. They are coming, following the Unification Church folks.

As for whom the Teacher made the honorary chairman of the Little Angels children’s dance troupe, he made former Japanese Prime Minister Kishi the chairman. Kishi’s having become the honorary chairman of Korea’s runny-nosed Little Angels children’s dance troupe—how astonished everyone must have been. Prime Minister Sato still holds high standing, yet that Sato government was thrown into an uproar. I do not know whose wind blew to make it so, but once it was done just so, what could they do?

When selling tickets for the Little Angels children’s dance troupe as well, the Teacher directed the head of the Japanese association to charge over fifteen hundred won. Even if not a single coin were charged, they were on the verge of not coming, saying it was trifling that only children had gathered to perform. So the Teacher was calculating all of that.

Since our members number some tens of thousands, even if one person sells only a few tickets each, they can be sold instantly. So it was already assured of success. They did not know this state of things. On the theater’s side too, they scoffed, saying, “Among the top performers of the entertainment world drawn from all over the world, what is so good about a Korean dance performed by runny-nosed little Korean children that people would come to see it?” And they said that even if the entire rental fee were brought in cash, they could not lend the theater, because they would later be criticized by society. Ordinarily one need only pay some deposit, but they said they would not accept even the full amount.

Seeing such things, one can tell how deliberately they scorned the Korean people that much. As for the individuals in charge there, they were young people from their twenties to under thirty. Therefore, if they accepted our dance troupe, they would be criticized by the older generation, who would say that the young people were deceiving their elders. And so they refused. But we are not ones to retreat over that. Practically fighting with them, we obtained permission.

After going through such twists and turns, on the morning of the performance day, the Teacher gave directions. Do not tell the Japanese people, but charge not a single coin to our Korean people. And so we made it standing-room full. Because all the tickets were sold and it became standing-room only, a scuffle broke out at the door. So naturally the stock rose, and, pushing and shoving people, once one barely got into the theater, would one not feel as good as a general victorious in a hundred battles? In that way, the stock automatically rose.

Thereafter, we had the young people of the Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles sit here and there. Sitting there, what did they do? When the Arirang Pass number came out, and the Nilliri melody came out, we had them shout and clap. Although the audience did not know the songs well, since the dancing was excellent and there was clapping and shouting on all sides, old and young alike kept time, saying, “The Little Angels children’s dance troupe does splendidly.”

Seeing that, they said American dancing was no comparison. Such a thing was the first of its kind in Japan’s history. As for who directed that work, those people will still not know even now.

In Japan there is a financial magnate named Sasakawa Ryoichi, and that old fellow, who moves three hundred billion yen a year, listens well to the Teacher’s words. Japan’s coming to occupy the world’s first place as a shipping nation is thanks to this old fellow.

Once, this old fellow—since he is president of a shipping company and chairman of a shipbuilding company—arranged a yacht race on a lake called Modasuke in front of the Korean embassy, and grandly invited the Teacher as a guest of honor. The Teacher is indeed a guest of honor.

What Is Needed Is People, More Than Money

And so, seating the Teacher in a place close to himself, he asked me to enjoy the sights to my heart’s content and play to my fill before leaving. And then this old fellow, growing excited, said, “Teacher Moon, Korea too would need motorboats like those, would it not? I will donate as many as you like, so won’t you try it once?” The Teacher, feeling bad, thought inwardly, “You rascal, do you think I came here following motorboats?”—and did not answer whatsoever. I acted as if I had not heard. So how would that old fellow feel? It was probably the first time he had ever seen a person like the Teacher.

Everyone else always asks to be given something and tries to snatch away even one more thing, whereas here, though offered a gift, I was displeased and did not answer, so from then on he never brought up that talk again.

At this recent joint wedding, the Teacher invited that old fellow. I sent an invitation saying, “Sir, you must come this time and offer your congratulations.” Having such international gentlemen come and offer congratulations—whether the parents disliked it or liked it, I do not know, but were the sons and daughters splendid or not? Being received as a guest of honor and made to offer congratulations, that old fellow’s spirits were soothed. And I lodged him for one night in a good hotel. That old fellow is nearing seventy in age, but even so, in the days of the Japanese Empire, he moved the Metropolitan Police Board. In the old days, like Hitler and Mussolini, he was truly a real ultranationalist. But now he has turned from ultranationalism to globalism. This is the achievement of the Unification Church. It is not propaganda.

When this old fellow came to Seoul, the Teacher, with the thought that he must not give the old fellow any spare time, set the schedule tightly and had everyone gather at lunchtime at the Grand Hotel, and his son came too. And there I drove that old fellow hard, mercilessly. I laid into him, saying, “You may be Sasakawa, but so what? What is it that you made money with motorboats? I had thought Sasakawa was at least a manly man in Japan, but this is worth no more than three coppers.”

Having invited him a whole year later as a guest of honor, when he thought I would commend him for his trouble, instead I dropped a bomb into his belly. Where in the world is there such a way of greeting a person? But the Teacher knew this old fellow’s nature. I knew that this old fellow had the temperament of a splendid man who actually prefers a good thrashing to being flattered.

So when I gave him a rap, how excited that old fellow must have been. And yet he laughed aloud, “Ha ha ha.” That old fellow, even so, is quite well put together. It means he is a made man. But he took a rap. Afterward I heard that, choking back his anger, he could not even sleep. The Teacher needs a man like Sasakawa; it is not money he needs. Yet that old fellow, thinking the Teacher acted so because of money, took a rap. Even so, from that time we grew closer than I can say.

This time too, coming from Japan, that old fellow came out even to the airfield to see me off. When a brother-in-law or son-in-law of his goes somewhere, he merely telephones, and hardly ever comes out to the airfield; yet such an old fellow came himself all the way to the airfield, loaded down with our things. And so, though ordinarily one parts in the waiting room, because I was a guest of honor, he carried all our luggage and even loaded it onto the airplane. Does this feel good or bad? (Good.)

The Need to Build a Worldwide Front for Victory over Communism

Until now, this person called the Teacher of the Unification Church has been reviled and has had strange rumors spread about him in the world, but he did such things for the sake of the nation—does that feel good or bad? (Good.) Anyone who says it feels bad is a traitor to the nation. It is not to fill my belly that I do such things, but for the sake of the Republic of Korea. It is not that there is a man in Korea, but that I do it for the sake of the Republic of Korea. Know that there is a man in Korea—this is what I mean. It is because if the communist chieftain comes to play his games near Japan, Korea is undone.

When the Teacher says “Attention!” sturdy young men and women who are graduates of Tokyo University in Japan say “Hai!” and snap to attention. The reason the Teacher carries out such maneuvers in Japan is to work over Asia and seize and destroy the communists. Even this talk is better than not hearing it. It would be good to hear all about the situation in Asia, but there is no time for that, so let us leave it here today.

To turn a leftward-leaning Japan to the right, we must ride on the back of the American CIA and take it over. We must work over America. We must work over America. These fellows talk big, but whether they get caught by us, just wait and see. For our children’s dance troupe to go to America, at the Korean-American Cultural Foundation they went to pay respects to some 150 of America’s top prominent figures, including former President Eisenhower, former President Truman, General MacArthur, and members of the upper and lower houses, and the Speaker. Korea does not know. Who does all such work? Korea does not know.

In this way, the Teacher is a person who goes about with all the paths laid open so that wherever he goes, he can meet anyone he wishes to meet. And yet in Korea, even if someone asks to meet me, I do not meet them. No one in Korea has met Teacher Moon of the Unification Church by asking to meet him. Some people imagine that Teacher Moon sits grandly enthroned wearing a royal robe and a beard, and that when he says “Hey there!” the servants say “Yes, my lord!” This is necessary for strategy. So they are curious. Not knowing what kind of person Teacher Moon is, they are curious. From now on, rumors about the Teacher will gradually come back in reverse from abroad. Do you understand? You, too, feel good hearing such talk, do you not? (Yes.) Let me leave it at this and now move on to the main subject. It is a shame that too much time has passed, but I will impose upon you just a little more.

The Unification Thought That Will Make World Unification Possible

Because the Teacher took on the mission of a pioneer at the forefront in establishing the authority of Asia, you must praise it. Someone may revile me for saying such words, but if the Republic of Korea works with the pastors of the established churches, it is only forlorn. When one looks at the ideology of the Unification Church, because there is a certain something in it, the Unification Church members listen well to the Teacher’s words. Do you listen well, or not? (We listen well.) The women are arranged not to listen, are they not? (The women too listen well.) What do you mean, listen well, you lowly things! When a pastor of an established church reviles and shouts like this, they will all vanish without a sound. Yet Unification Church members keep coming even when reviled, and that is the trouble. Even when reviled to their faces, they keep coming. This is the point of difference from the established churches.

How much reviling has the Teacher taken because of women?

He has taken all his reviling because of women; has he taken reviling because of the men? These constantly go around sniveling and weeping, so how could I not be reviled? Wherever I go, I end up reviled because of women. When word gets out that the Teacher is going down to Pyeongtaek or Suwon, they learn it beforehand and come out to the street from morning and wait. And when they meet the Teacher, they cling to him, saying, “Teacher, you have come.” I don't understand why on earth they do that. Would the husbands not oppose it when they see it? It gets on their nerves, is what I mean. The husbands are here; how about it? Would you not feel bad? (No.) What do you mean, no; of course you would.

And so it makes the Teacher get reviled, does it not?

If these women had just sat quietly, the Teacher could by now have flown off to the world. Because of these women, the Teacher has suffered no end of hardship. Even if I revile you, you can do nothing about it. When you get caught, I must revile you, and it cannot be helped. Ah, only then does the Teacher get to loosen a little of what is knotted up inside him, does he not? (laughter) Do you say I should not loosen even that? Within the Unification Church, people understand this well, but a first-timer will be knocked flat with shock. That is because they do not know well.

As for this Unification Church, however much the Public Security Bureau’s police intelligence section studies it, they cannot make it out. There seems to be nothing when they look, yet why do the rumors keep coming out? So they keep studying, but no matter how much they study, how would they know—the dimension is already different. We are people living above the clouds; what would people on the ground know?

If you listen to the Teacher’s words and just take in the Unification thought, world unification is realized. Grandmothers here, and gentlemen too, you seem to have come for the first time today—you have come well.

If you have grandchildren, put them into the Unification Church early.

If they say they will not go, then shove them in even if you have to beat them with a club. It will absolutely never be a loss. Only if you do it that way will witnessing go quickly; otherwise, when would you ever witness? (laughter) Come now, let us laugh. What I mean is, let us live with a little more laughter from now on.

The Reason Christianity Became the Central Religion of the World

Now I must speak of something serious again. As for how good this water tastes, there is no one who knows it as well as I do. It is rude to drink with the left hand, but you will not revile me. It tastes delicious. When you speak like this, you will agree quite a lot. Laughing this way and that, as all the affairs of the world go round, here a bit and there a bit, the affairs of the world are truly wearisome.

Centering on God, what is the best thing?

It is the parent-child relationship. Therefore, you must become God’s sons and become God’s daughters. Once you become God’s sons and daughters, there is nothing better than that. This at least you must firmly remember.

Since God is a God of love, there is no position better than the position of a son or daughter who receives the love of such a God.

Then among religions, which religion is first? Is Buddhism good?

Is Confucianism good? You have to sort it out and choose, do you not?

Originally, Korea was close to Confucianism. The Teacher too has read the Confucian Analects and Mencius, all of them. Confucianism teaches that Heaven sends down blessings upon the one who does good (爲善者) and Heaven sends down calamity upon the one who does not do good (爲不善者). It also teaches that “he who obeys Heaven prospers and he who defies Heaven perishes,” but its meaning is not clear.

Look at the Three Bonds and Five Relationships (三綱五倫) too. What is the very first? There is righteousness between ruler and subject (君臣有義), then affection between father and son (父子有親), order between elder and younger (長幼有序), trust between friends (朋友有信), and distinction between husband and wife (夫婦有別); they are all there, but Heaven is not. Is Heaven there? (No.) “Heaven” is vague. The standard of human ethics and morality centered on the family was said to be the Three Bonds and Five Relationships. Is that not so?

Therefore, it cannot be helped. There is no way to form a relationship with God centered on love, is what I mean. There is no foundation by which one can keep time with the destiny of humanity and the destiny of Heaven together. That is the conclusion.

Even looking at Buddhism, it seems there both is and is not a God, that is, a deity. It holds that nothing (無) is being (有), and being (有) is nothing (無). It regards all the dharmas as having begun from nothing (無). It is vague in presenting the personhood of God.

But Jesus, who pioneered the content concerning the Bible, is not so. I do not say this because I am close to Jesus’ side. This gentleman called Jesus, whom Christians, that is, the Jesus-folk, believe in, how did he become a historical issue?

Through a history of martyrdom and trial, though they persecuted and beat him to death and tried to make it perish, how has Christianity remained and remained until today, absorbing the democratic world into the realm of Christian thought and building a new Christian world?

That would have been impossible without God’s protection and guidance. And looking at Jesus too, in that age he was branded a traitor to the nation and died as a wretched outcast. He died as an outcast, an outcast. A disciple who followed him sold him. The disciples who followed him, saying they believed, all fled and were all caught and killed.

How did Christianity, centered on such a Jesus, come to be able to conquer the world? You must know the fact that there surely is an absolute and supernatural power, not the power of human beings, that was applied. And there must be content that can make that so. Then what is the content that can make it so? A religion that has that content is a true religion. So you must not believe in a religion carelessly and in a trifling way.

What is a true religion?

A true religion is a religion centered on God’s love. As I said before, where does a person wish to rest? It is God’s love. There is no position equal to that position of love, and no position that holds dominion beyond it. That is the highest position.

So what must be taught?

God’s love must be taught. Then, centering on God’s love, what is to be done, and once one becomes a beloved son or daughter of God, what is one to do? Look at this clearly. What is this? What is this? (It is the family.) One comes to build a family centered on God. A family centered on God—this is a phrase you hear for the first time, is it not? In all this heaven and earth, has there ever been a family centered on God until now? Has there been, is what I ask.

The plus and minus of a magnet are set apart at a distance. But when the two cross that boundary and enter within the range where the magnetic force reaches, what happens? At such a time, even if you tell them not to, will they stick together or not? They just try somehow to stick. Even if there is something in between, they collide recklessly, though the forehead cracks and the nose bursts. However strong the strength of a great ox may be, it cannot but lose to a greater force, can it?

If Only We Become One with God, Centering on Love

Once stuck together in that way, to pull them apart, can you pull them apart with a force smaller than the magnetic force, or not? (No.) The force must be greater to pull them apart. In the same way, when there is a young man and woman in the fallen world who have formed a bond of love and say, “If not I, then you die; if not you, then I die,” does telling their parents to pull the two apart pull them apart? Fallen into a deep mire, having gone as far as they can go, can you pull them apart? To pull them apart is to ask them to die. Pull them apart, and it collapses.

If you insist on trying to pull them apart, then, fearing the two will be separated, they bind themselves tightly with a rope and roll about saying, Let us die together even if we die. Is that force stronger than a magnet, or weaker? (Stronger.)

How much more, when, centering on God’s love, the plus and minus have stuck together like a magnet, is there a force in the world to pull that apart? Is there, or not? (No.) If there were, God would not be a God of the ideal. Because what is centered on love is the highest peak of the ideal, this love must be stronger than God Himself. So that love must become the fruit of the highest, absolute power. Why? Because only then can God too rest there.

If God’s love has stuck fast like a magnet, is there anyone who can pull it apart, or not? (No.) There is none, is what I mean. If, since heaven and earth came into being, such an action had taken place between God and human beings, if God and human beings had stuck fast together with such love, who could have made such human beings fall, and who could have taken such love away? No one could have laid a hand on it.

That is why: what does a person seek?

He seeks God’s love. Everyone, is God’s love good or not? (It is good.) That is how it is. Because I knew this, I have survived until now without dying.

Jesus, God’s Only Begotten Son

The gentleman called Christ Jesus, of whom Christianity speaks, lived as a shaggy-haired bachelor in the house of Joseph the carpenter, went about with the fishermen of the time, and came and went to the house of Mary Magdalene. His circumstances were as desolate as those of a pack doing hired farm labor in the village. Did he graduate from a university? What did he do? There were no universities then, were there? At any rate, he could not even study. He was just a person who did adze work and plane work.

Yet that man, I do not know what capital he had, but he was splendid. His manner of speaking was truly splendid. He said, “Hey, in all heaven and earth, God is my Father,” did he not? That is splendid. God is my Father! Had there been anyone who said such a thing until then? Jesus was a champion who could become God’s son.

And next, as if that alone did not satisfy his heart, he said, “I am the only begotten Son of God.” What does an only begotten Son do that makes him an only begotten Son? Is there also a term “secondly begotten son”? (No.)

The term “only begotten Son” is a phrase heard for the first time; what on earth does it mean? This is not a phrase said to no purpose. On closer look, “only begotten Son” means the representative who can receive the first love. Any objection here? Any objection, or not? (No.) The authority of the only begotten Son is to be able to monopolize the parents’ love. This is the driving force of history, the origin of humanity’s happiness, and the same as the head of a person.

What became of Jesus himself I do not know, but that standard alone, which he spoke and which he thought, was something to which the fortune of Heaven could respond.

Everyone, if you bear a first son, do you love him? Is a first daughter good? Is a first son good? (A first daughter.) What did you say? (A son.) I do not know. A first son is good, is he not? Whom did you learn from, liking a first son? Seeing this, you can tell the Bible’s words are right.

Whom did God create first?

He created Adam first. The whole universe, pouring out its heart (심정), must have created Adam first. Because the order is so, a person too, resembling God, ought to bear a first son, is what I mean.

The women too say they will bear a son, not liking a daughter. Isn't a man an enemy to a woman? A daughter is good. Is a daughter good? Is a daughter good, or a son? (A son.) Even glaring like this, you still say a son. Why is this? It is because the principle of heaven and earth is so. The men here, when you marry, what will you bear first? If you bear a daughter first, your mood is spoiled. (laughter) What is there to ask? A son, of course. If not, it is a fake.

Resembling whom is it so?

It is so resembling God. When God created the world, whom did He create first? He created a son first, is what I mean. Then a daughter. Because God likes sons, He created a son first, and because He likes daughters less, He created her later. (laughter) Is it all right even so? Teaching it this way, you must know it that way; what else can be done?

Since the principle of heaven and earth is so, before a woman is born and comes to ride astride God, what can be done? One must at least be grateful for that and live. Even if mistreated by men, I mean live gratefully.

That God’s Only Begotten Son Has Come Is Happiness

After humanity came into being, at four thousand years, who was born into this heaven and earth?

God’s only begotten Son was born. Is it good news or bad news? (Good news.) Is it blessed news or evil news? (Blessed news.) That is why in Christianity the word “gospel” came out. The gospel is the blessed sound.

What blessed sound?

Because until then, God’s only begotten Son had not come forth, and humanity could not form a bond of love centered on God; humanity had the han of being unable to form this bond of love. But because one representative man appeared who could resolve that han, there is no more blessed sound than that.

The word “gospel” is used in Christianity, is it not?

What a good word “gospel” is.

If the only begotten Son had not come forth, what would have happened? There would have been trouble. Since a person appeared in history who could make such a claim, all humanity must become his side; heaven and earth too must become his side, and the Owner of creation too must become his side. That is why one who blocks the path of such a claim perishes, and one who welcomes it prospers. That is how a country like America prospered. They first built a church, then built a school, and after that built their own houses. That is why they prospered.

That the only begotten Son came forth is happiness, is what I mean. Is that not so? The men too, that the only begotten Son came forth, does it feel good or bad? (Good.)

If an only begotten Daughter had come forth, the men would feel bad. But God first sent the only begotten Son, a male. That is why history until now has been woven by men.

If the only begotten Son has come, what must come next?

(The only begotten Daughter must come.) This answer should be given by the women. Why do the men answer, spoiling the mood? For the same value, it feels better when the women answer.

If there is an only begotten Son, there must be an only begotten what? (There must be an only begotten woman.) It is good when the women answer. And if there is an only begotten Daughter, what must there be? (There must be an only begotten man.) Seeing how well you answer, it seems that is a good thing.

Now then, have you heard it said that an only begotten Daughter was born?

(We have not heard.) But she must come forth, must she not? (Yes.) This is the problem of heaven and earth. For God Himself too, if there is an only begotten Son, there must be a daughter. Those of you who have borne only sons, how about it? (I want to bear a daughter.) Is that so? Is that so? But you (to the young woman who answered), not having borne one, how do you know? What a progressive woman you are.

Now then, what will we do if the only begotten Daughter does not come?

However long Jesus lives, will he live a thousand years, ten thousand years? He lives alone and dies, and that is that. Having come as the only begotten Son, he must find the only begotten Daughter. From here the interesting story begins. It is a riddle-like story, a dream-like story, but since it is fact, listen.

Everyone, leaving aside this gospel, what did I say is the problem? What is this? (writes on the board) The family, is it not? And not just any family. Everyone, do you have a family or not? (No.) So the men here, have you become the only begotten son, or not? Then what kind of son are you? (The eldest son.)

Let us hear the answer once. Is there an only begotten son?

There is none. Is there no only begotten son sealed by God? When you do not even know whether God exists, how would you become an only begotten son? It is an astounding story. If you swagger along, you perish.

Humanity’s Eternal Original Homeland Is the Family

The family, the family is a good place. Why is it good? It is good because there is a mother and father, good because there is an elder sister and elder brother, good because there are younger siblings, and good. After all, there are relatives. That is why any human being holds a nostalgic heart (심정) that longs for the original homeland, the hometown. One thinks of the hometown more than the nation. Even living in the Republic of Korea, the place one longs for is the hometown.

Liking the Republic of Korea, wishing to live in the Republic of Korea, and even while living in the Republic of Korea, the place one longs for, where is it? The hometown. The hometown. It is the hometown.

What kind of place is the hometown?

It is the place that draws up my heart (심정) in all directions, three-dimensionally, all at once. What is that heart (심정)? It is being bound by love. Above, mother and father bind; to the left and right, the bond of husband and wife binds; below, sons and daughters and relatives bind tightly with three-dimensional love; that place is the original homeland. Because a person looks most highly to the point of happiness centered on love, he cannot but long for the original homeland.

Then where would God’s original homeland be?

On this earth, where would God’s original homeland be?

This is a matter to think about. If He is a God of love, He would surely have prepared a point at which He can live upon this earth, so where is that point? To know that, one must know how God prepared as He came forth to make that point. Where would the place be that can become the point of the original homeland where God’s family can be prepared? It is no other place. It is the place where there is a son who knows God as his true Father. That is, the place where there is a son, an only begotten Son, who can monopolize God’s love. And the place where there is such a daughter. And so the place where that son and daughter marry and build a perfect family. But has there been such a place until now? Has there been? (There has not.) Those who think there has been, raise your hands. There are none. That there are none means the Teacher’s words are all correct.

Where Is God’s Original Homeland

If God is the master of love in the human world, then His family centered on that love ought to be upon this earth, so where on earth would God’s original homeland be?

Human beings all have hometowns, but where is God’s original homeland?

That is what I ask. You all have hometowns too. But where would God’s original homeland be? If there is God’s original homeland, from that homeland the kindred of the homeland unfolds, from that kindred a people unfolds, from that people a nation and a world unfold, and thereby the Kingdom of Heaven unfolds on earth.

If there is a place on this earth that can be so, do you want to go, or not? (We want to go.) A human being who wants to go even to a hometown where wretchedly plain mother, father, elder brother, and elder sister live, would he not want to go to God’s original homeland? God’s original homeland is the hometown of the Father of us all, so to say you do not want to go is a lie.

Then where is your original homeland?

Is it a place where several relatives live?

It is the place humanity hopes for, and God hopes for, the place where heaven and earth harmonize and all beings of the whole universe can say they are happy and joyful, the place where God can dance and at the same time the whole universe can dance centering on God.

Had the original homeland that would greet such a day come forth, this world today would not have become a world of misery. As I said before, in the principle of love, had the powerful God’s sons and daughters centered on love, that is, the only begotten Son and only begotten Daughter, become completely one with perfect love centering on God’s love and built a family, would the sons and daughters born of that bloodline have become the packs of today whose minds and bodies fight? To speak of such matters, there is no end. In any case, the religion of religions is Christianity, which points to the Son centered on God and calls him the only begotten Son.

Though Jesus came to this earth to make the world into a kingdom of peace centering on the nation of Israel, however much ability and real power he had to achieve it, if he could not build a family, it is a failure. The world comes into being by families gathering. This family cannot be built by packs whose body and mind fight.

However absolute the authority, if one becomes a person who casts aside the heavenly way even when the crisis of death comes, one cannot build the family God desires. An only begotten Son whose body and mind are one welcomes an only begotten Daughter whose body and mind are one and builds a family. Before building a family, even if one restores the world, one loses it again.

What is a family?

It is being connected by bloodline. When a whole people is connected by bloodline, it becomes one kindred. Do the Chinese have the same bloodline, or not? Do all seven hundred million people have the same bloodline? (They do not.) The same bloodline does not connect the Chinese people. What about the Republic of Korea? Our Republic of Korea, as the Baedal people, all share the same bloodline.

Seen from this standpoint, the religion of religions is Christianity.

What did this Christianity try to construct centering on God?

It tried to build a family, become one with God, bear sons and daughters, and make the nation of God. No religion can be higher than this.

Because Christianity is the religion that holds and teaches such content, Christianity cannot but be, in name and reality, a worldwide religion. Because God wants it, such a religion is destined to develop. That is why one must form a familial bond centering on God’s love; but because Jesus could not do that, after establishing the nation of Israel, his intention to subjugate the Roman Empire and unify all the world under heaven all collapsed.

And so, losing the nation, receiving the opposition of the church and losing the church too, receiving the opposition of John the Baptist and his relatives and losing John the Baptist and his relatives too, and losing even the family of Joseph, so, going about with lowly fishermen, he tried to gather these up again but failed once more, and being cornered and cornered, he could not help but die on the cross.

What Jesus left as his wish was the family. That is why Jesus, as he was dying, said he would come again. Coming again, what will he do? Jesus said, “I am the bridegroom, and you are the bride.”

Seeing this, one can know that it is Christianity alone that can completely furnish the familial requirements and be centered on God. When he says I am the bridegroom and you are the bride, the bridegroom is the only begotten man, and the bride is the only begotten woman.

Then among Christians, are the men also the bride?

How can a man become the bride? A man is a lowly servant. A lowly servant. And the woman is the bride. But is the man higher or the woman? The woman is higher, is what I mean.

Since the Fall Began with the Woman, Restoration Too Begins with the Woman

Centering on the Second World War, from the 1970s, the woman has risen. Have you heard the term Mister Universe? They are wretchedly plain fellows. Have you heard the term Mister Korea? (We have not.) In the future it will come out. Then have you heard the term Miss Korea? (Yes.) And the term Miss World? (We have heard it.) Then, apart from Mister Korea, if Mister Heaven and Earth comes, is it good or bad? (Good.)

In the future, a Mr. Heaven and Earth will come, is what I mean. Who is that one? He is the only begotten man who is the bridegroom. The day the only begotten man, who is the bridegroom, makes his procession again is the day of the Second Advent. Does it feel bad or good? (Good.) The day the only begotten man makes his procession again is the day of the Second Advent, is what I mean. So what the worldwide religion Christianity awaits is a worldwide Mister.

When the worldwide Mister Heaven and Earth comes, what do you become? What do the men become? (We become Mister Man.) You do not become Mister Man just like that. Only by following the woman and bowing your head and submitting to the woman can you become Mister Man. It feels bad, does it not? Even if it feels bad, it cannot be helped. Why is that? Everyone, if you have lost something, to find it, you must return to the place where you lost it. To say this in the Unification Church way is called Restoration. Restoration. Human history is called the history of Restoration, is it not? It is so because one must return.

What is salvation?

"Salvation" is also the same word as Restoration. If one has fallen into the water, it means returning to the state before falling in. What is lost cannot be found unless one goes back to the very place it was lost. Is that not so? Then what did a person lose at the very first? Did one person fall, or two? (Two fell.) In falling, how did they fall? Who fell first? The woman fell first, did she not? The woman fell ill first. Then who fell ill next? (The man.)

Then to restore this, to find it, from whom must one begin the search?

One must begin the search with the woman. Is the reasoning not so? Since the woman fell first, one must save the woman first and then save the man. Then how did the man fall? He fell following the woman’s backside, did he not? (Yes.) Eve gave the fruit of good and evil, and Adam ate it, did he not? That is why the man, after the woman’s illness is healed, cannot but receive his operation through the woman. From after the Second World War until the 1970s is the period for doing that. Therefore, until the 1970s, in a society like America’s, even if a woman slaps a man’s cheek, it is no disgrace. But if a man did that to a woman’s cheek, he would be caught at once. In the Republic of Korea too, you have heard the old term “skirt-wind,” have you not? (Yes.)

For a man to succeed, the woman must be excellent. Is that so, or not? The present age is a time when the woman rides the fortune. The time has come when pitiful women can rejoice. Because Teacher Moon of the Unification Church clarifies things by reason like this, it seems the women rejoice.

A Time Will Come When Man’s Fidelity Is Regarded as Important

What kind of person is this person called Teacher Moon of the Unification Church?

He is a person who will succeed by putting women out in front. Does it feel bad? Until now, women melted down men, that is, heroes and martyrs, but in the future, in making Teacher Moon of the Unification Church succeed, women must take the lead. Do you understand? Even the fight must be done by women. Who pioneered the Unification Church? Did women do it, or men? Women did it. You can tell just by looking at the people gathered here. Are they not almost all women? It is arranged to be so.

That is why, in the future, in defending the 38th parallel too, the men will stand in the second line, and the women will stand in the first line to strike down the People’s Army. Then world unification is no problem. Do you understand? (Yes.) I mean, let us become women soldiers. The Teacher will become the commander of the women’s corps. Even if we die, let us try it once. Even if it means death, if the Teacher says let us do it, they will do it. Even if it means death, if I say let us die together with the Teacher, they will all try to follow and die. Is that so? (Yes.) Is it really so? (Yes.) Oh dear, I do not know.

If it were really so, there would be trouble. The reasoning is arranged to be so. It is arranged so that the man cannot but follow the woman. That is why, as for who reveres religion, it is the women.

The men are trifling louts. The men are trifling louts even in believing. Even at the time to go to church, they idly want to slip into a tavern and into a woman’s room. They are always trifling louts. Who offers devotion? The women offer it. Why? Because the woman fell first. Because the woman broke Heaven’s love, the woman has been trampled until now. To set up the collapsed order of love, the woman has passed through the path of death while sacrificing herself.

But it will not always be so. Until now, the woman’s fidelity was emphasized, but in the future a time will come when the man’s fidelity is regarded as more important. That time is the ideal age. The man must keep fidelity more than the woman.

Because the man is the representative of the universe and stands in God’s place, he must be absolute. Because the woman is a relative, it is no problem wherever she is, east, west, south, or north. The woman’s fidelity is not the issue; that is what I mean.

The Unification Church thought will, in the future, assert the man’s fidelity absolutely. That is why the rumor will spread that the women of the Unification Church have become ill-mannered. It must be made so that even if the man goes somewhere and stays a month and comes back, the woman can trust him absolutely.

If it were the women of the world, the moment the man went out for even an hour, she would raise a weeping, wailing uproar, asking where he had gone and saying, Let us go there once. But the women of the Unification Church sleep well in the morning, sleep well in the evening, and sleep whether they have eaten or not. Their lot could not be so good. I am so vexed I cannot stand it. That is why, if you would obtain a son-in-law, you must obtain a Unification Church son-in-law. But since the procedures are complicated, not just anyone who wants such a son-in-law can obtain one.

The Women of the Unification Church Are Plain in Looks but Splendid Women

The Unification Church family is truly splendid. When one tells the story of that family, it is truly splendid. That is why the day a woman marries into a Unification Church man, a thousand years of han is resolved, is what I mean. It is true. Look.

From the very day of the wedding, following the Will to save the nation, they go out to different posts of duty. Building a family is important too, but one must have a family after saving the nation, is what I mean. The principle of Heaven is so.

So, to save the nation, the man is way down south and goes to the Southern Sea, and the woman goes to Cheorwon in the north. And so, even after several months, neither woman nor man writes a single letter. And even so they say, “I have a wife!” “I have a husband!” Seeing that, it is astounding. What kind of married couple is that? Some couples do not write a single letter for twelve months of the year. But when they meet, they are simply gladder than anyone.

They are busy witnessing, so when is there time to write letters?

Is that not so? When witnessing, no one even acknowledges them. They have to go searching through every village and neighborhood, so when would there be a moment to write a letter?

Fulfilling responsibility is the issue, you see. Because completing the family can be done any amount later, though the whole twelve months of the year pass without a single letter, these wives sleep soundly, without the slightest doubt even in a dream. Is that well done or badly done? (Well done.) Why does a man answer when it is the woman who did well? (laughter) The woman did well.

Perhaps for that reason, a while ago, when the Teacher was on tour in the provinces, the men said that Unification Church women are stiff and have no charm, so there is no flavor in living with them. Even when the husband comes back from somewhere, she says, “Hey, your father is coming; go out and see.” So the children go out, they say. And she sits grandly in the room, and when the husband enters the room, she just says, “So you have come?” and that is all. How can one live with such a charmless wife? Could even I live with her? Seeing such things, the Unification Church men are pitiful.

Let us look once at how the women of the world live. A while ago I went to Gwangju, and the wife of the Gwangju district leader told me a story. A certain rich household’s wife gives 35,000 won each month to a private detective agency, as if paying a salary. Why does she give it? To grasp her husband’s movements, she says. The investigation fee for checking where her husband went today and what he did, and in which teahouse he met what woman and what they did, goes out at 35,000 won each month without the husband’s knowledge. The husband, not knowing this, wanders about night and day in his own way and comes home sticking out his belly. Because the woman already knows everything as she sits there, she is displeased and sticks out her lips like this. She will not even want to look at the husband coming in. And when the husband asks for a meal, would she feel good? So she flings the food, and a fight breaks out. The husband does not know why she is like this. And if she lets on that she knows, and the husband grabs her throat asking where she found out, she cannot say she went to a detective agency, so she just groans alone. She knows everything but cannot speak of it, so it is all the more unbearable, she says.

Since she started that investigation, she has become nothing but bones. Better not to know than to know and be unable to speak; what is the use? Such a woman deserves it.

So I said, “The young women of the Unification Church earn a great deal of money.” So, though we have nothing, we are rich. Our Blessed Families number over a thousand couples; what if a thousand couples had been such women? Since 35,000 won goes out per person each month, a thousand couples would be 35 million won.

So we earn 35 million won a month, which is what I mean. Seeing this, our Unification Church women are far too charmless. You young women here, let me see your faces. Looking at these young women’s faces, they are so plain that it is a wonder the men resolve to spend a whole lifetime gazing at those faces. Just take a good look. And think about it, how it is.

Even Traveling the Whole World, There Is No One Like a Unification Church Member

That is why, taking others’ sons and daughters and holding a joint wedding for them, I did not inquire of or consult their mothers and fathers. Why? Because I am confident and above-board. Having beaten their sons and daughters and driven them out for attending the Unification Church, can they now say they will come to the wedding? Just let them come, is what I mean. I will drive them hard without mercy.

When the Teacher marries them off here with authority and above-board, can they treat them as their sons and daughters? And then I send an invitation saying, “Your son or daughter So-and-so is to be married here.” Then those parents, not even thinking of their deeds, raise an uproar: “Taking my son or daughter, who dares send an invitation? Where in all the world is there such a thing?” The words are right, of course. But if they will come to the wedding, let them come, and if not, let them not.

Teacher Moon of the Unification Church is not stupid. Because the opposing parents feel bad, welcoming parents had to be shown; so at the very first wedding, I forbade anyone not wearing white clothes to enter the ceremony hall. I told the parents too to come wearing white clothes if they would enter. And so I asked them to stand guard at the gate like an iron fortress.

If the Teacher says Do not let them in, the Unification Church folks are arranged not to let them in even if their heads fall off. Some people say, “My son or daughter is being married; who dares tell me to come wearing white clothes? How unpleasant. I will go in a suit.” But just let them come, is what I mean. They are not let in. Then at the gate a squabble breaks out over must-go-in and cannot-go-in, and a fight breaks out. The Teacher anticipated such things. That is why I arranged it with the police and started the work. But I do not do what should not be done.

So if they come in, they have to obey the rules; what else can they do?

Helplessly, they grab one of our church members and say, “Lend me a ceremonial robe.” Otherwise they cannot get in. And they cannot willfully break it up there, because for their child to have a joint wedding again, they would have to wait from a year and a half to three years and six months or more; so what can they do? They cannot but plead that they were mistaken.

So sympathizing, for that daughter’s sake, I asked them to lend the clothes. And then they come in wearing the ceremonial robe over a suit and shiny black shoes. It amounts to a conditional Satan-devil coming in.

And so they sit there, but can I drive them out?

And so, finishing the ceremony and seeing his daughter come out arm in arm with a man she has never seen in her life, how bad he must have felt. But if he feels bad, what does he mean to do about it? It is already decided. Even so, what have they done as parents? Having opposed and driven the child out, is it not only natural? If she is old enough, must she not be married off?

So even while watching his daughter come out before the officiant, can he revile?

Even so, he is a community leader and a person who holds a prominent position in the province as an educator, so if he shouted, he would be caught by the law, so he just looks at me and trembles. Standing on the platform, I know everything.

However much he does so, I do all that I must do; that is what I mean.

And so, sticking the label on the forehead and grandly proclaiming the marriage, what can be done? When he came that morning and looked, it seemed like nothing much, but just watch, is what I mean. Within three years, let us see whether that person does not say with his mouth, “The Teacher of the Unification Church did the joint wedding wrongly, but he obtained a fine son-in-law for us alone.” A while ago too, such a person was boasting of his son-in-law.

Where is there anyone like the men of the Unification Church?

However many hundreds of billions of assets you sell, you cannot obtain one. Even traveling all the rivers and mountains of the eight provinces, no, the eight provinces are narrow; even traveling the whole world, you cannot obtain anyone like our Unification Church men, is what I mean.

That gentleman, a middle-and-high-school principal, to boast of his son-in-law, seeks the son-in-law even on his sixtieth birthday or on the day his wife died, they say. Even if the daughter does not come, the son-in-law must come without fail, he says. These days that old fellow says to his son-in-law, “Won’t the Unification Church establish a school? I would do well by it.” The people of that household who stood at the forefront of opposing the Unification Church have all entered the Unification Church. Having obtained a daughter-in-law and son-in-law who are not Unification Church members, there is no one like them. Where in the world is there anyone like Unification Church members? Since I let him receive such a person into his household, where is there a greater benefactor?

Because of the Fall, a Savior Is Needed

The men will be sad, but in the Last Days the man must go holding onto the hem of the woman’s skirt. Because the woman fell first, by the principle of Restoration the woman must be saved first and restore through indemnity the man’s fall. It must be done in reverse. Because today has become such Last Days, the time comes when women are restored worldwide.

Once this time passes, in the future the men will go on strike, and a movement to banish women will break out. When that time comes, it is the end. If only I set off the strike, it is the end, is what I mean.

One must return. In returning, because two fell, two must return. Centering on Christianity, the sons and daughters centered on God and were restored, and the bride and bridegroom were restored. Next, all people must be restored. The sixty-six books of the Christian Bible are all bound up with this. That is why the conclusion comes out that Christianity is the highest religion of all religions.

Even if the Jesus-folk feel bad, it cannot be helped. But on closer look, heaven and earth turn this way. So the highest religion of all religions is what religion? (Christianity: On hearing it, Christianity is worthy of it, is it not? (Yes.)

Then who is the master of this Christianity, the foremost religion of all religions?

It is Jesus. Then who on earth is Jesus? The ancestors of humanity, Adam and Eve, were to become the True Parents of humanity, but through the Fall they lost that position. So the one who came to find that lost position is Jesus. Had they not fallen, would Jesus be needed? Had they not fallen, Jesus would not be needed.

Today, Christians talk well about how the Trinity is such-and-such and how it was from the creation of heaven and earth, but if I ask just a few questions, they mumble and cannot even answer. Human truth must have an ideology. To be an ideology, it must state facts. It cannot be done with falsehood.

Had Adam and Eve become the true ancestors of humanity, no Savior would be needed, and no religion would be needed. When no religion is needed, would evil be established? A world where no religion is needed: is it a good world or an evil world? (A good world.) A good world is a world God likes. God wishes such a world to be realized on earth, but has such a world been realized on earth?

Then does God like a scene of fighting, or does He like a place that has become one? There is a saying, “When the family is harmonious, all things prosper” (家和萬事成), is there not? But you are fighting now. You cannot become one and are fighting.

What is the Fall?

It is failing to become one. And thereby failing to become True Parents and becoming evil parents. So we must erase the bloodline of the evil parents, receive the bloodline of the True Parents, and return to Heaven.

When you were born, you were born as a wild olive tree. Should this wild olive tree be left as it is? It ought to become a true olive tree, but since it became a wild olive tree, this must be cut off, and it must receive the engrafting of the true olive tree. That is why, among the doctrines of Christianity, there is the doctrine of engrafting. Christianity is a religion of engrafting. It is so in the Bible. Look at Romans chapter 11 in the Bible, and it is stated to be a religion of engrafting.

And Christianity is a religion of rebirth; one must be born again. Rebirth means being born anew, the same meaning as being regenerated. Resurrection means coming alive again. Why did such words come out? Because a human being was born wrongly, one must form a bond with the True Parents and be born again. In today’s fallen human being returning to Heaven, such absolute requirements are needed to correct the wrongful fact.

The History of the True Parents Must Begin

If the Bible did not have such content, the Will of God centered on that Bible would not have been established. The Bible accords with this content. That is why the conclusion comes out that, because God protects from behind, though Jesus died, Christianity today, however much its neck is cut and it is killed, cannot but be a worldwide religion.

So what is the foremost religion of all religions?

It is Christianity. Because, though it suffered all manner of persecution and martyrdom, it holds the content that can resurrect, regenerate, be reborn, and revive humanity from the satanic world and lay a bridge all the way to the position of the True Parents, because it introduces the path by which one can go all the way to the true family, the original homeland of humanity, today all the people of the world cannot but believe in Christianity.

Who is Jesus?

He is God’s only begotten Son. Originally, centering on God, the ancestor of humanity, Adam, was the only begotten Son. But because Adam fell and died, he had to be found again.

Then what is Eve?

She was the only begotten daughter. When this Adam and Eve passed puberty, matured, and greeted the springtime of life, God would have married them. At that time, when God looked at them and thought of holding a wedding for them, would He have felt bad or good? God ought to have held their wedding. But because He could not, centering on Christianity, the term “marriage of the Lamb” was established. If you look at the very end of the Book of Revelation in the Bible, the marriage of the Lamb appears.

Then what is this marriage of the Lamb?

Six thousand years ago, Adam and Eve, whom God ought to have married, married centering on Satan, and became the ancestors of evil. So, to restore that, in the historical Last Days there must be a feast at which God sets up a new bride and bridegroom and holds their wedding again. That is the marriage of the Lamb. By holding this feast, the lost True Parents come to be born before humanity.

Because such a time has come, since the Second World War, the world is changing. The United Nations organization came forth, and the world is changing. After the First World War, the victorious nations abused and dominated the defeated nations as they pleased, but after the Second World War, it is not so. After the Second World War, the victorious nations liberated all the defeated nations. Strange, is it not? It is so because the time for the parents to come has arrived. The countless United Nations countries are all brothers. They are brother nations. Big ones and small ones alike, all are brothers. Even a cripple is a brother. So, centering on the United Nations, all must come to be in a position like brothers of one household, equally, with one-to-one authority. Who must come there as the standard-bearer of peace? The parents must come. The True Parents must come.

What is the most difficult problem from a political standpoint today?

It is the problem of how to adjust the relationship between the ruled and the ruler. This is all resolved by fitting it to the parent-child relationship. That a father makes his child undergo hard suffering is not for his own sake but for the child’s sake. That is why the true standard of the ideal world is the True Parents.

So the history of the True Parents must begin. The True Parents must come and unite all the people of this world to one standard of heart (심정), teach what is evil and what is good, and establish a new tradition of the parents. And thereby we must see a new blood-kindred formed and a new start of the world unfold. That is why the Lord who comes comes to organize a new family. That one who comes is what Christianity calls the Lord at the Second Advent. Only this way does it fit exactly. Is that not so?

Human Beings Must Be Reborn through the True Parents

Talking this way, even talking all night, it would not end. Shall we stay up through the night and talk until tomorrow morning? (Yes.) Is it all right not to go to the “field office” (restroom, editor’s note)? (Yes.) Is it really all right? (Yes.) Then let us do it again.

How good it would be if the True Parents were restored. The Bible says that today’s humanity is orphans. It says the nation too is a nation without a master. Is there a master in this nation? (No.)

You might think, “Our nation too will last a hundred years, a thousand years, and our people will live a thousand years, ten thousand years,” but not at all. There is no knowing when some robber fellow will come and ride it astride. Our nation is not trustworthy, and there is no knowing when our family will be violated. Therefore, the family is not trustworthy, and even the kindred, culture, and way of life cannot be trusted.

We are living in an atmosphere of terror where there is no knowing when and how things will turn. Moreover, our body and mind are fighting each other. Therefore, this place cannot be a base of peace.

Then why has all of this become so?

It is because human beings inherited the bloodline of false parents. Therefore, we must cut off this bloodline of false parents, receive the engrafting into the bloodline of the True Parents, and set out as a new family of the Cosmos (천주). If that happens, the sovereign of that nation becomes God, that nation becomes God’s nation, that kindred becomes God’s kindred, and that family becomes God’s family.

Who must find such a family of the Absolute?

You must find it. In our Unification Church, there is, no less, such a family. Because the Blessed Families of the Unification Church were formed centering on the True Parents, nothing can strike them. The greatest problem in the world is the problem between man and woman, and the agent of family collapse, which is the cause of it, cannot be forgiven. These will go to the most terrible hell of all hells. Because our Unification Church members all know theoretically that it is so, even if told to do such a thing, they do not.

So I have married off many of our Unification Church members. Now I am sick of matchmaking. If they live well after I matchmake, they say they live well because they have much blessing, and if they live poorly, they say they live poorly because the matchmaking was poor.

What all humanity of the whole world should hope for and await is the True Parents of humanity. In Christian terms, it is the Lord at the Second Advent; in Buddhist terms, the Maitreya Buddha; in Confucian terms, a new Confucius; and besides, in the terms of the Jeonggamnok, the Jeong Doryeong. They say it differently, but the one who comes is one person. A religion without such a thought of the Second Advent does not even count as a religion. In the end, what is it? It is the parent. You set out centering not on God’s love but on a false, wrongful love.

When you look at yourselves centering on God, the mind is plus and the body is minus. These are arranged to become one automatically when the time comes. But when these meet plus-to-plus, they repel. They repel forever. That is why, however much they try to become one, they cannot. You made a wrong start and are now in such a state. The place that presents the method to treat this is religion.

Then what does religion teach?

What is the teaching of a true religion? It is to strike and subjugate this body.

Centering on the mind, it is to strike down everything that opposes it. This is the teaching of religion. Be meek and humble, and sacrifice and serve! It says to hold this as absolute. It also says to fast. There is no method apart from this for beating down the body.

The Higher a Religion, the More It Teaches to Subjugate the Body and Offer Devotion

Because making the mind weak makes it difficult to govern the body, it says to make the body weaker and weaker. So it says to give up entirely the desires of lust, appetite, and material greed. One must make the body weak so that it can be dragged along as the mind aims. There is no method apart from that which religion teaches.

And another method is to offer devotion. Because this body and mind are one-to-one, about the same, they fight. If one is strong and one is weak, they do not even fight. A champion cannot fight with kindergarten children, is what I mean. Is that not so? That is why: what method does God use? Because abstaining is hard, He says, while eating what there is to eat and doing all one has to do, instead offer devotion and “attain the Way, attain spiritual communion.” Everyone, you have heard the term “attaining the Way,” have you not? It says to attain the Way.

When one prays and offers devotion, a strength five times, ten times greater comes in strongly. Doing so, the aim is to make a person who can drag the body about at will. And thereby to make the origin of unification. There are no methods but these two.

That is why religion says to offer devotion. When this body opposes the mind, they do not stick together. One method by which body and mind can become one is to make this body weaker and weaker and kill it off; and another method is to offer devotion and inject into the mind a heavenly strength several times stronger. And thereby, only when the fight of body and mind is halted does the Kingdom of Heaven at last unfold. That is why Heaven, centering on higher religions, has come forth powerfully promoting these methods. The Unification Church must fulfill this mission.

Do the people whose minds and bodies fight need religion, or not? (They need it.) I mean, one must believe unconditionally.

The Fall Was the Forming of a Wrongful Love Relationship

There is much to say, but since much time has passed, let me conclude. Looking at the parents, originally Adam and Eve were in the position to become the parents of goodness. But because Adam and Eve became evil parents, they must be restored.

So God unfolded the providence of salvation and, through Cain and Abel, tried to restore what they had done wrong. To restore what the parents did wrong, He set up Cain and Abel. Cain is the elder brother, and Abel is the younger brother.

Restoration is done centering on the family. Where did the Fall begin? What was it that fell in the family? Was it the eating of the fruit of good and evil? What could fall on the familial level can only be love. Would they have fallen by eating the fruit of good and evil?

Does original sin arise from eating the fruit of good and evil?

If the father’s eating the fruit of good and evil is the sin, what is the fruit of good and evil that the descendants of a thousand generations, ten thousand generations, should become sinners? This is a matter of bloodline. Once the root of sin is planted through the bloodline, by the law of heredity, it goes on forever. The only thing that can do that is the matter of love. Wrongful love is the cause of the Fall.

Once one loves, one holds dominion, I said, did I not? A person is arranged, by the law of the creation of heaven and earth, to receive dominion. That is why, however much a rich household’s daughter of the village she may be, if she forms a love relationship with a trifling scoundrel of the village, that maiden comes to be dominated by that scoundrel.

Who would take her side?

Eve’s fall too can be explained that way. God is the master of this world, and His servant is the archangel. This archangel later became Satan, did he not? This lowly servant violated the master’s daughter.

In the Bible, Jesus said to forgive even seventy times seven; if God is the very author of love, would it not be enough to forgive Satan once? Is that not so? Then why could God not forgive Satan? It is because he is the enemy of love.

Can one forgive the enemy of love?

When the bloodline was changed because of the enemy of love, can one forgive? When that enemy completely cut off the path by which God and human beings could eternally form a relationship, can one forgive?

What is Satan?

Seen from God’s standpoint, he is an adulterer (姦夫). This is a phrase said for the first time in the Unification Church. Because I say such a phrase, the fellows who do not know this content call us heretics. Who the heretic is must be seen in time.

Do you know what an adulterer is? (Yes.) I would like to explain this, but since there is no time, I cannot. In any case, you know well that Teacher Moon of the Unification Church does not tell lies.

The Providence of Separating Cain and Abel

Because it became so, history became inverted. Originally the elder brother ought to have been born on God’s side. But the younger brother was born on God’s side.

What is this younger brother?

Eve, after forming a love relationship with the archangel and learning the archangel was not her husband, enticed Adam and formed a love relationship with Adam as well. That is, Eve formed two relationships of love. That is why, though the sons are all Adam’s sons, because Eve first formed a love relationship with Satan, by the law that Satan too can hold dominion over love, Satan could claim Adam’s bloodline as his bloodline. By intention and by original nature, and by the law of creation, they ought to have become God’s sons, but as a result they became Satan’s sons, is what I mean.

To restore this, God worked by dividing Cain and Abel, one on Heaven’s side and one on Satan’s side. Whom did He set on Satan’s side? He set the firstborn on Satan’s side. Why? Because the firstborn is the mark of the first love with Satan. Eve formed the first-love relationship with Satan and then formed a love relationship with Adam.

But Adam was originally arranged to form a love relationship naturally once he matured. That is the Principle, the Principle. That is why, seen by the standard of the Principle, forming a love relationship with Adam, though it too was an act of the Fall, is nevertheless closer to being able to be forgiven. Centering on this result, from the standpoint of God’s parent of the original nature of creation who must save, or from the standpoint of the master, by forming a love relationship with Eve, He apportioned to the archangel, who could claim the right of dominion over love, and to Adam a right of dominion that they could claim centering on love. So He set up two sons.

Because dividing the fallen Adam and Eve themselves in half would kill them, He had two sons born, had one taken by Satan, and set one on God’s side.

Therefore, to restore this, the second son must enter the position of the firstborn and the firstborn must enter the position of the second son. It must be turned over, inverted.

So Abel, born as the second son, must become the firstborn, and Cain must stand in the position of the second son. Restoration must be done in this inverted way. That is why the history of Christianity is a history of changing the bloodline. So when you look at the history of the Bible, the firstborn absolutely cannot receive the Blessing. Why? Because he stands on Satan’s side.

Now, so-called theologians say all sorts of things about God not receiving Cain’s offering of grain but receiving only Abel’s offering of a slaughtered, blood-shedding lamb, but that is not it. It is because there is a principle. Even though the second son is on Satan’s side, in the future all of Satan’s side can be saved. That is why, when one returns here and completely submits, even Satan is saved; that is what I mean.

Looking at the Bible, human history is a history in which, because human beings fell, the second son restores the standard of the firstborn. By the law of Heaven, Cain the firstborn is arranged to govern his younger brother Abel. Though fallen, because he is the son born with love first, he is entitled to govern his younger brother. That is why, even when Cain, the firstborn, struck and killed Abel, the second son, God could not strike Cain.

In this way, by the law of Heaven, the elder can strike the younger, but the younger is arranged not to be able to strike the elder; so history until now has been one in which evil, on the elder’s side, always struck goodness, on the younger’s side, first. But when God sees evil wrongly strike goodness on Heaven’s side, He takes back from Satan’s side, for it, several hundred times, several thousand times more. God’s strategy is a strategy of being struck and taking back.

Through the process of history until now, not one of the sages and wise ones who came and went upon this earth was welcomed by the world. They were all cornered and died shedding blood. But in compensation of a thousandfold, ten-thousandfold for that, at last, centering on the name of sage, they came forth taking possession of the evil satanic world. Therefore today Christianity too, on Heaven’s side, has broadened its worldwide domain until now while being struck, unable to strike Satan’s side.

The Providence of Restoring the Firstborn

Looking through the process of history, the side that struck first always perished.

In the First World War too, the nations of Satan’s side that struck first perished; in the Second World War too, the nations of Satan’s side that struck first perished.

Therefore, today the communist world too, because it is striking the democratic world first, perishes, is what I mean. Then how can Satan’s side strike first? It is because Satan’s side is in the position of the elder brother, that is, the position of the firstborn.

Seen this way, what is God’s han?

It is that evil took possession of the position of the firstborn, who can directly inherit God’s estate. That is why, by setting up a son on God’s side and restoring the standard of the firstborn, one must ascend to the position of the firstborn. Therefore, how to ascend to the position of the firstborn is the problem.

Looking at Cain and Abel of Adam’s family, Cain and Abel are brothers. Both are Adam’s sons. These two fight, and the younger brother Abel must go to the elder’s position, and the elder brother Cain must go to the younger’s position. Why must this be so? It is because there is the principle that, since Adam by his fall had the firstborn’s position seized by the archangel, this position must be restored.

Originally, in the Garden of Eden, the archangel was Adam’s servant, so he ought to submit to Adam. But that the archangel did not submit to Adam and instead dominated him in reverse was the Fall; so to restore it, the archangel must be subjugated.

So, taking an offering as the condition, He tried to make Cain, on Satan’s side, submit to Abel, on God’s side. But because Cain did not submit and instead beat Abel to death, the same position as the archangel’s subjugating Adam came to be repeated. Therefore, history came down connected once again as a history of evil; that is what I mean. This must, at some point, be restored through indemnity. It must be changed, is what I mean.

In the time of Cain and Abel, the brothers fought, and Abel tried to restore the position of the firstborn but failed.

So, to restore the position of the firstborn again, the fight is waged, centering on Esau and Jacob instead of Cain and Abel. Here, the younger brother Jacob had to seize the birthright of the elder brother Esau, that is, the birthright of the firstborn.

So Jacob seized the birthright of the firstborn from Esau with lentil stew, did he not?

Today, even while reading the Bible, people do not know what meaning is there. They do not know the content of why, of all things, Jacob, who seized the birthright of the firstborn, received the Blessing. They did not know that God’s providential Will to invert again the law of heaven and earth that was inverted in Adam’s family was working in Jacob’s mind.

Here Jacob, giving lentil stew and seizing the birthright of the firstborn from Esau, and subjugating even the angel at the ford of the Jabbok, could at last find the position of Adam that had been subjugated by the archangel.

Accordingly, Esau, who stands in the position of the substantial Cain in place of the archangel, could not but submit to Jacob. So Esau, who had tried to kill Jacob, welcomed Jacob, and here at last the birthright of the firstborn could be changed. This is an interesting history.

But because the origin of humanity’s fall arose from within the womb, centering on love, even though the second son, Jacob, subjugated Esau and restored the position of the firstborn, the restoration within the womb remained.

So, however much they were born as twins and restoration was accomplished, because Esau and Jacob were restored after growing up, the period from birth until maturity remained a period in which Satan could accuse.

Then what must be done?

It must be inverted again from within the womb. So, centering on Jacob’s son Judah, Perez and Zerah were born. When Perez and Zerah were born through Tamar, the hand of the firstborn, Zerah, came out first, and the midwife tied a scarlet thread on that hand of Zerah. But the younger brother Perez pushed aside the elder within the womb and came out first. By Perez pushing aside Zerah and coming out, the root of the firstborn, which had been born into the satanic world with a defiled bloodline, could at last be restored.

You must know that from here it became victorious Israel, and so the tribe of Judah became the ancestor of Jesus. It is a dreamlike story, but interesting, is it not?

In the end, without restoring the defiled bloodline, one cannot establish the way of Heaven. That is why the defiled bloodline must be restored through the restoration of the firstborn. Otherwise, even if the baby in the womb is born, it remains just as it is within Satan’s realm of bloodline. That is, because it is a son bearing original sin, it cannot escape the condition of Satan’s accusation.

Jesus, Born without Original Sin through Restoration in the Womb

Through the history of Tamar, a standard was established by which Satan’s bloodline could be exchanged for the bloodline of goodness. Through this bloodline of goodness, the people of Israel passed through a period of nearly two thousand years, and Mary conceived Jesus. Because Jesus was the Son of Man who came holding the authority of the restored firstborn, of such a period of victory, he was born as the only begotten Son. Do you understand? (Yes.)

Accordingly, even Satan himself can do nothing about Jesus, who was born as God’s only begotten Son through Mary’s womb. A person who has not received Satan’s accusation is a person without original sin, so Jesus, as a person without original sin, is a person who can return before God. To put it again, because original sin arose, one fell away from God; so if there is no original sin, one can return to God; therefore, Jesus at last became the only begotten Son.

Everyone, this is a secret of the Kingdom of Heaven that should be told only to theologians. What would today’s trifling pastors know of this? And yet, doing only a skin-deep skimming, they say they themselves are genuine and the Unification Church is heretical. They do not know themselves well, is what I mean.

Looking at Jesus and the countless founders of the Way today, ordinary founders of the Way were born in a position where they could be accused within Satan’s realm of accusation, but Jesus was born as a person without original sin who does not receive Satan’s accusation. So you must know that he can claim to be God’s only begotten Son. You understand? Only speaking this way does it fit reason.

The Bible was recorded over a long period of history. Yet it is not that Teacher Moon of the Unification Church made things up and fitted them to the Bible. The principle of heaven and earth is all unraveled within this.

Then what must Jesus do? He must restore what was lost in Adam’s family, centering on Cain and Abel. Centering on the Principle, you know the certain fact that unless Abel subjugates Cain, the parents are not restored, do you not? (Yes.)

Adam, by his fall, dropped from the position of good parent to the position of evil parent. He is a parent, but he became an evil parent, is what I mean. So, to restore the good parent, Jesus came. That is, Jesus came as the good parent. The evil parent is Satan’s side, and the good parent is God’s side.

Accordingly, to restore the position of the parent, first, in Adam’s family, the elder brother Cain must submit to the younger brother Abel.

Jesus Became the Spiritual Parent through the Faith of the Robber on the Right

Then in Jesus’ age, which side is Cain and which side is Abel?

Looking at the nations, Israel is Abel, and Rome is Cain. Originally, had the nation of Israel and Jesus become one, they could have subjugated Rome in forty years. What the dead Jesus subjugated over four hundred years, had they become one while Jesus was alive, they would have completely subjugated and conquered it in forty years. But because the people of Israel did not become one with Jesus, they could not achieve this.

When the nation of Israel opposes, Judaism becomes Abel, and Israel becomes Cain. Next, when Judaism opposes, Judaism becomes Cain, and Jesus’ clan becomes Abel. But because that clan too opposed, Jesus’ clan becomes Cain, and Jesus’ family becomes Abel. And yet even the family opposed. They all opposed. Do you understand what I mean?

Then where must Cain and Abel be found?

Without restoring Cain and Abel, there is no place for Jesus to stand. He cannot ascend to the position of the parent. Because this is the Principle, it cannot be denied.

Jesus’ parents, brothers, and sisters forsook Jesus, and even three of the twelve disciples all forsook Jesus and fled. When Jesus died on the cross, the robber on the right and the robber on the left fought, centering on Jesus.

Everyone, you must listen well to this word. Because Jesus is in the position of the parent, to restore Cain and Abel centering on Jesus, the one in Cain’s position must submit to the one in Abel’s position. Here the robber on the right is in Abel’s position, and the robber on the left is in Cain’s position.

So they fight over Jesus on the cross. That is, whether the position of the parent is restored or not restored, such a fight breaks out.

First, the robber on the left, facing Jesus, blamed him, saying, “Hey, you made a fuss with your reputation, and now the wrist nails you? What is different about you from me? Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us.” He blamed him, did he not? At that, the robber on the right rebuked the robber on the left, saying, “Hey, you rascal, we naturally die as recompense because we committed sins deserving of death, but Jesus has done nothing that is not right.” Had the robber on the right retreated here while testifying to Jesus, Jesus could not have been resurrected.

Because Jesus could not have a family, he could not lay a familial foundation. But because the robber on the right stood on Jesus’ side to the end and suppressed the camp of the robber on the left, the condition was established that, from Abel’s position, the Cain side was subjugated. Do you understand? (Yes.) Accordingly, the condition of having restored was established, but this was not a foundation of restoration centered on spirit and flesh; it was a foundation of spiritual restoration.

Here Jesus, seeing the excellent faith of the robber on the right who testified to him, said,

“Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43)

Here at last the matter of being able to enter paradise centered on the spiritual world unfolds. This is not a matter unfolding on earth centered on spirit and flesh. That is why Christianity comes forth centered not on an earthly paradise but on the paradise of the spirit world.

The Three Disciples Who Failed to Fulfill Their Responsibility

Had Jesus subjugated the Roman Empire centering on the people of Israel, a new ideal world would have set out on this earth centering on the sovereignty of Christianity. But because the people of Israel did not become one with Jesus, after Jesus died they completely lost their foundation on earth and, like drifting clouds, came to stand in the position of going west when cornered in the east and going east when cornered in the west. In this way, as a people without a nation pursuing a spiritual nation for two thousand years, and so developing the democratic world here and coming forth to find a path that could substitute for that foundation, this is the history of Christianity until now. Do you understand? (Yes.)

Without the robber on the right, Jesus cannot be resurrected. He cannot stand in the position of the parent, is what I mean.

What you must know through the Bible is that, because the three sons Cain, Abel, and Seth of Adam’s family could not become one with one another and fell apart, for Jesus, who came in the position of the parent in place of Adam, He set up Peter, James, and John. Because, centering on Adam’s family, the three sons could not become one unless this is found again and made one, the position of the parent, the standard of Adam, cannot be restored. Therefore, because it was Jesus’ destiny to become one and lead them even to the place of death, he could not but take Peter, John, and James to the garden of Gethsemane and pray, staying up through the night.

Here, before Jesus, in the position of the parent, died on the cross, who had to die first?

These three disciples, Peter, James, and John, had to die before Jesus. If they died before Jesus, what would happen? When resurrecting, Peter, John, and James too would be resurrected. Then what would happen? The four position foundation would be realized on earth.

Once the four position foundation is realized, because one escapes the realm where Satan can invade, Jesus, without ascending, could lay a familial foundation upon this earth.

To furnish the familial foundation, Jesus must welcome the Holy Spirit, who is the bride. Once he welcomes the substantial Holy Spirit, he can act freely centering on the horizontal standard. But because the disciples could not establish the standard of sons and daughters, Jesus could establish only a spiritual condition. This is Jesus’ han. In this way, because he could not establish the standard of complete indemnity on earth, Jesus could not help but ascend.

For the Lord at the Second Advent to Ascend to the Position of Perfect Parent

The man stands in Heaven’s place, and the woman in the earth’s place.

Then what deity is the Holy Spirit?

She is the mother deity. Jesus is the True Father of humanity, and the Holy Spirit is the True Mother of humanity. Accordingly, the Holy Spirit ought to descend wearing a substantial body, but because the only begotten Daughter who becomes the substance did not come forth, that Will could not be achieved. Therefore, only the essential nature of the Holy Spirit, the formless, that is, non-substantial Holy Spirit like fire, the Holy Spirit like oil, came to this earth and performs the rite of spiritually conceiving and delivering. This is the history of Christianity.

So believers, moved by the Holy Spirit, come to yearn for the bridegroom. When they thereby fight with Satan, who holds the authority of the air, and come to hold the power of love that yearns for Jesus, Jesus descends there and, becoming one, the bond of parental love is spiritually connected, and thereby new life comes into being. Life cannot come into being without the love of parents. This becomes the center of Christianity, but there are all sorts of stories.

What kind of person is the Lord at the Second Advent who comes in the future?

Fallen Adam is the first Adam, Jesus is the second Adam, and the Lord at the Second Advent is the third Adam. This third Adam comes at last as the perfect parent. But without restoring the standard of the son through indemnity, the position of the parent cannot be decided. What has come forth today in the form of the robber on the left? It is the communist world, which claims, “There is no God. What need is there of Christianity?” The communist world is called the left wing, is it not? Do you know why the term “left wing” came out? It is because it came forth in place of the robber on the left. Do you understand? (Yes.) This must be confessed directly before God.

Everyone, how do evil people and thieves live?

Do they live in hiding, or above-board? They live hiding in shadowed places, do they not? These, in the end, perish, is what I mean. But you must testify to God like the robber on the right. Then what of the conscientious person? He prospers, is what I mean. That is, evil perishes and goodness prospers.

That is why, in heaven and earth, because Satan is an evil being, he cannot stand before the way of Heaven without revealing his identity. He cannot stand in the court of judgment of the Absolute; that is what I mean. Because Satan is evil, he is on the left. That is why the term “left wing” comes out. And they are called Reds. Red is the color that indicates danger, is it not? (Yes.)

And what came forth in place of the robber on the right is the democratic world. Because it came forth in place of the robber on the right, the democratic world is called the right wing. Looking at the flags, the left-wing communist world is the red flag, and the right-wing democratic world is the white flag. In the Last Days, all identities bear fruit.

So it is an age of testimony in which one confesses one’s own identity directly. All must confess directly, is what I mean. Such a situation unfolded centering on the True Parents. Because, centering on Jesus, the substantial world was not realized and only the spiritual was realized, what unfolds substantially with two worlds set out is the democratic world and the communist world.

Then what becomes the problem here is: where is there a denomination that, like the robber on the right, can testify to God before the communists? The Christianity that ought to do so is not doing so. Just as the robber on the right, by testifying to Jesus on the cross, received in that instant the promise from Jesus, “You shall go with me to paradise,” where is there a single denomination that, representing the democratic world and representing Christianity, can, by confronting the satanic-world communists to the end, receive the public recognition from God, “You shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven on earth with Me”?

The Unification Thought That Surpasses Communism

You know that the nations centering on America, the subject nation of the democratic world, made an uproar in the world in 1967 with the content that God is dead, do you not?

It is a matter that leaves han in history. So, God being dead, can He be resurrected? Within three years, the time to be resurrected comes, is what I mean. Jesus was resurrected in three days. Do you understand what I mean? Since He died, the time to live surely comes.

Then who must carry out such a history?

This cannot be done with today’s Christianity of the democratic world. Christianity does not have a theory that can, theoretically, surpass communism, which holds a worldwide ideology. That is why the Unification Church, which has a theory that can surpass communism, must do it, is what I mean.

That is why the Unification Church has come forth holding not only anti-communist thought but victory-over-communism thought. One must defeat the communists by theory. One must not only criticize communist theory, saying this and that is wrong, but also present a countering alternative.

So you know that at present the Unification Church stands at the forefront nationwide with victory-over-communism thought, do you not? Is that so, or not? (It is so.)

In our Unification Church we must first proclaim to the world, “God is alive.”

Today in the world, the fortune of God has run up against the final crest where it is broken and perishing. On such a road of destiny, who must fulfill a mission like the robber on the right, one who, centering on a new ideology, can drive out atheistic thought and lead the democratic world to God’s side? (The Unification Church.)

Everyone, do you think the communists came out for no reason?

Seeing that the communists have come out, now is the Last Days, the Last Days. In the age of the worldwide end, we must handle these communists. For us, the problem, centering on this solemn worldwide mission, is how to drive out the communists in Asia.

In the present reality where the whole democratic world is agonizing, centering on the problem of how to drive out the communists, when we come forth holding an alternative for driving out the communists, the whole world cannot but come into our embrace.

At present, the democratic world is centered on Christian thought but has fallen into confusion. With jumbled-up Christian thought, the communists cannot be handled. Once they hear Unification Church thought even once, they all come around.

There was a time when the Teacher went to America, met a certain doctor of theology, and made him weep aloud within thirty minutes. Everyone makes an uproar saying the Unification Church is heretical, but it is nothing of the sort.

Now the time has come to drive out the forces that betrayed the way of Heaven and blocked the path of the way of Heaven. We must set out upholding the great cause of Heaven’s mandate before the whole Cosmos. So you must know that, centering on the slogan “total advance,” until the 1970s is the time when we must press forward our mission.

We must drive the communists out of the land of Korea. Korean history is a scaled-down version of world history. That is why, centering on the North and the South, it has become the very front line of the democratic world and the communist world.

Everyone, Panmunjeom on the armistice line is the only debating ground in the world. This is the same as the gate at which God and Satan stand opposed. That is why a new age has come in which Korea can seize worldwide leadership.

Here, the only one that can, with an ideology that can surpass the communist ideology, push over the armistice line, and that can form the parent-body of strength and the parent-body of unity that can block the corruption of Christianity and run to a new world, is our Unification Church. That is why, centering on the name of unification, we go forth holding a worldwide new ideal. In this way we must know clearly the path we are walking.

The First Seven-Year Course, Which Had to Undergo Persecution

You scamps of Gyeonggi Province, will you walk this path or not? (We will.) Will you go? Will you not go? (We will go.) If you have understood, you must go.

When we come to know the fact that heaven and earth demand the accomplishment of such an enormous historical task and mission, we must advance and advance again, regardless of day or night. Do you understand? (Yes.) Then those who have resolved to walk this path, raise both your hands. Put them down.

How do the first seven-year course and the second seven-year course differ? This our Unification Church members must know without fail. Among the three stages of formation, growth, and completion, because Adam fell upon reaching the top of the growth stage, in the age of restoration one must pass through this standard.

Then, because Adam and Eve fell, what did humanity come to lose? It lost the True Parents. It also lost the true children. Next, it lost all things. And after that, what did it lose? It lost God, is what I mean. These four lost things we must find.

Because Adam and Eve fell, they dropped from the top of the growth stage and became the fallen ancestors of humanity and fallen sons and daughters. And all things too became all things with piercing han within the fallen realm. Because human beings entered Satan’s realm of dominion, everything was lost, is what I mean.

The time when the Unification Church established the standard of having restored these things was the first seven-year course, the seven years from 1960 to 1967.

That is, it ascended to the standard where the lost things can be restored. Because Adam and Eve, by their fall, lost Parents’ Day, Children’s Day, and the Day of All Things, in the age of restoration one must find and establish these days and cross over.

So in the Unification Church we find and establish and commemorate Parents’ Day, Children’s Day, and the Day of All Things during these seven years. Why is the Unification Church opposed within this period? It is because the stages of formation, growth, and completion within the realm of dominion based on the result of the Principle entered the fallen realm.

So we must be persecuted until the seven-year course ends, is what I mean. But in the future, because we can enter from the realm of indirect dominion into God’s realm of direct dominion, centering on this seven-year course, we must fight until we can connect with God’s realm of direct dominion. In this way, this must be unraveled by the Principle, not done in a slapdash way.

This, in Christian terms, is the seven-year great tribulation, and in Unification Church terms is the first seven-year course. And in Jesus’ terms, since he had to go, at age forty, centering on the people of Israel and by way of Rome toward the world, but died at thirty-three, it is the remaining seven years.

Today the Unification Church walks the seven-year course to indemnify this historical han. And it also comes forth re-enacting that time to indemnify the persecution of the countless Christians in the process of history. Therefore, it comes through a vexing and infuriating process of history.

At this time it must come forth receiving the persecution of three nations. So the Unification Church comes forth receiving the persecution of Japan, the communists, and the Republic of Korea. And it must come forth being persecuted before worldwide enemies, and must also pass through the sovereignties. So it came through the Liberal Party government, the Democratic Party government, and the revolutionary government. Here the Liberal Party’s Syngman Rhee regime is the Adam-type, the Democratic Party’s Chang Myon government is the Eve-type, and the revolutionary regime is the archangel-type. That is why the archangel-type revolutionary government’s assisting the Unification Church fits, seen by the Principle. Therefore, from here, for the sake of new development, it passes through the seven-year course. History never comes about by chance. It all revolves and revolves centering on the principle of the way of Heaven.

The Significance of Proclaiming God’s Day

Having passed through the first seven-year course, what did we establish on January 1, 1968?

We established “God’s Day.” That the path by which humanity and God can meet was lost is because, through the Fall, the family was lost. Therefore, finding the lost family, greeting the first day of 1968, by establishing “God’s Day,” we enter into God’s realm of direct dominion. Because we have thus entered God’s realm of direct dominion, this position is a position that has nothing to do with Adam and Eve’s fall. This is a position where even the archangel must completely submit.

So now, because it is a position that has restored through indemnity the standard of the firstborn on Satan’s side and established the standard of the firstborn on God’s side, the time has come when Satan himself too must completely submit.

Until 1967, because Abel had to come forth subjugating Cain, it was a time of coming forth restoring through indemnity by sacrificing the person God loves. But now, because it is a position that has restored the standard of the firstborn, God’s side has come to hold the authority of the firstborn.

Accordingly, when one strikes Satan, who is in the position of the second son, even Satan comes to be restored. And so from now on the satanic world is destined to collapse. (Omitted here, as the recording was briefly interrupted.)

Until 1967, it was a time when the members of your family did not welcome you. Why? Because your family is in Cain’s position and you are in Abel’s position, so you, in Abel’s position, had to restore the birthright of the firstborn. When you tried to witness to your family, who are in the firstborn’s position, if they submitted to you, in Abel’s position, they would have all their blessing, held from the firstborn’s position, taken away; so they opposed.

But now, because the Unification Church is in the firstborn’s position, it is not that we take blessing away, but that we go to give blessing. In the old days, because we tried to take blessing away, they opposed; but now, because we try to give blessing, it is a time when they do not oppose. Now the time has come when the parents welcome you. So now you need only go forth with strong and bold faith.

By whom did this historical han until 1967 begin? It began from the fallen parents.

So the parents themselves must indemnify it. And because this must not be handed over to the children, centering on the Teacher, the history of indemnifying was carried out until 1967.

Now Is a Historic Turning Point

Then what kind of time is the second seven-year course?

It is the time of victory. To put it again, it is not the position where Jesus was rejected when he preached the gospel centering on the family of Joseph, John the Baptist, Judaism, and the people of Israel, but a foundation has been laid on which one can be welcomed by all of them.

What is that foundation?

It is the Unification Church in place of Judaism and the Unification Church Blessed Families in place of the family of Joseph. Therefore, the Unification Church now has the remaining mission of opening the path the Republic of Korea must walk in the future. Such enormous, dream-like facts are unraveled from here. That is why you must know that the time crossing from 1967 to 1968 is a time when a wholly different turning point of heaven and earth unfolds.

In what position are you now? Jesus, unable to hold the holy sacrament, that is, the marriage of the Lamb, could not establish a familial standard and died on the cross. That is why the Blessed Families of today stand in the position of having to establish, from the position of a victorious family, the standard by which one can face the tribe, people, and nation; that standard awaited for two thousand years.

That is, you must know that the time has come when you can fulfill the mission of a tribal messiah. That is why my charging you last year, in giving the Blessing, to fulfill the mission of a tribal messiah was also by such a Principle. Do you understand? (Yes.)

At the present point, such an enormous mission lies within the path we walk. That our Unification Church today holds the holidays that exist nowhere in the world, God’s Day, Parents’ Day, Children’s Day, and the Day of All Things, is a matter of pride. To unravel this, one must unravel history; and to testify to this, one can resolve it only by unraveling entirely the root of the heavenly family centered on love. You must know that the Unification Church is such a blessed place.

The age of your Unification Church members today is a time when, once you form a true family centering on True Parents and true children, the standard by which one can hold dominion over all things is established. That is why, in the future, on the path the Unification Church walks, the flowers of happiness will bloom. That I toured the world this time too was to restore the familial four position foundation.

We must restore, as the four position foundation of a worldwide family, what Jesus could not restore as the four position foundation individually, centering on Peter, James, and John.

That is why, on the foundation of Korea, a horizontal four-position foundation family standard centering on America, Germany, and Japan has been prepared. To put it again, because a standard of worldwide messianic ideology has been established, in the future the Unification Church will absolutely never perish. You must now know that even if the Teacher dies, the ideology of the Unification Church is more than enough to conquer the world. Do you understand? (Yes.)

You must know that our Blessed Families of today must shoulder such an enormous mission. Blessed Families, raise your hands once! Because you have shouldered such an enormous mission, in the future you, as parents, must embrace your children and follow the heavenly law.

However painful your life, and however much you live buffeted by hardship, you must not show tears to your children. Absolutely not.

The Teacher has, until now, educated the mother who has to raise many children that she must not show tears before the children. When raising children as a parent, there are many times when tears come and it is painful.

However much the tears try to come and however painful it is, when a child appeals to mother and father with tears, you must, as if washed clean, treat the painful things as though they had never been, and, saying, “There, there,” return to the figure of the mother and father who were joyful the day before. If you cannot do this, you are not qualified to educate children.

Blessed Families Must Establish a Heavenly Tradition

In your family, the children must think that our mother and father are more splendid than the king or queen of any royal palace in the world. And you must show the children that the relationship between mother and father is the closest relationship there is under heaven. Therefore, absolutely never show tears before the children. Do you understand? (Yes.)

You Blessed Families must establish such a tradition. And you must plant that tradition in the marrow of the children so that they can say, “Our mother and father are the most admirable mother and father, more than anyone in the world.”

When you look at the parents of the world, even while the children beside them cry, “Mom, Dad, why are you fighting! Why are you fighting!” they raise a wild scene. At such a time, you must show your children an example so that the children raised in your family, where you did not show tears, seeing such a scene of the world, can feel, “Truly our mom and dad are the best in the world! Truly they are admirable and holy persons.”

Through the heart (심정) that flows from the marrow of the children’s bones, you must establish a parental bond that can be admired, and in silence establish the heavenly family precept and family law; that is what I mean. By doing so, the children too will say that in later generations they will stand in a position like our mom and dad.

With what can such a tradition be established?

It can be established through Unification thought. Knowing this, you must, from now on, establish a familial teaching by which one can absolutely obey Unification thought. When the children know this, they will obey naturally, is what I mean. Do you understand? (Yes.)

You must become the model of the family. You must know that the reason there had to be the family path God sought for six thousand years, and the han-laden path of suffering pioneered for two thousand years, unable to find and establish the standard of the wish centering on Jesus, was also because the family God sought was not established. Therefore, you must know that the Blessed Family is this enormous standard of restoration, and is the altar that can resolve and settle the destiny of heaven and earth; and knowing this, you must praise the holiness of the Blessed Family.

As a man in Heaven’s place and a woman in the earth’s place, you must become true parents of a family who can, here, decide victory or defeat by which the history of past, present, and future is inverted and turned around, and humbly offer to God an eternal foundation of victory. Do you understand? (Yes.)

Becoming such ones, I ask that you become ones who, in later generations, in the nation and world God has sought, will be blessed and praised.

Prayer
We have come to know that the days of history that have flowed by were dedicated to weaving a history of difficulty and sorrow. We came to know that a multitude had to appear upon this earth that could writhe and struggle to block these historically sorrowful days and, from here, resolve the han of this people, to seek the source of the worldwide han and resolve it from here, but we came to know that there was no such multitude upon this earth, and that no preparation had been made for one to appear.

Yet since Thou hast today set up the multitude of unification upon this earth, we give thanks. We give thanks before the Father’s great love, which has gathered us in this desolate land of the Republic of Korea.

Father, we have come forth laying a worldwide foothold even in any position of persecution. Now the time has come when we can hope only for development, and the time has come when, pledging victory, we can offer the joy of tomorrow before the Father.

When we think of this, we can truly know how much the Father toiled behind us. We came to know how much hardship the Father underwent before we suffered, and we came to know that the Father endured while undergoing injustice and indignation tens of millions of times greater than our injustice and indignation.

Because we came to know that Thou art such a Father, we have, becoming sons and daughters who pledge the way of loyalty and filial piety before Thee, endured and endured until now to keep this path. Now that we have come to know that the limit-point of the age at which the historical han must be resolved has reached us, we earnestly ask and desire that Thou grant us to become a flock of lambs who, before the Father’s solemn heavenly mandate, can offer our whole selves to the Father with a still more meek and humble attitude.

Father, since today Thou hast gathered here Thy children who are in Gyeonggi Province, please remember them. We sincerely give thanks before the Father that Thou hast granted this place, so that the mind that has longed and yearned all this while, and the matters we have wished to meet and to hear, can this day and this hour be met and heard.

That we meet and part today was not in order to seek some human thing, nor in order to leave behind some condition that human beings like. Thou wilt well know that it is our one great wish that the Father alone desire to be present here, and that the Father alone be holy.

Because we, holding the tearful heart (심정) of restoration, are bodies already resolved to lay down our lives in comforting the Father who has endured, we are a multitude who say we will follow the Father’s command even over the ridge of death, if the Father can be comforted. Regarding such ones as worthy, we earnestly ask and desire that Thou set them at the forefront in restoring this people, this nation.

To that end, just as Thou didst counsel Joshua and Caleb to be strong and bold, we earnestly ask and desire that Thou grant these too strength and boldness.

Father, we earnestly ask and desire that Thou grant us to become princes and princesses of Heaven who can sweep away the tears that hang over history and remove all the sorrow that has soaked into the historical environment.

Father, since we know it is not so easy to have time to meet and time to gather and confer together, we entrust it to the Father until we meet again. Protect us until then.

Now once again we must walk the path of the fight, the path of pioneering. Since we know well that from tomorrow we have the responsibility to scatter in all directions and go, upholding the heavenly mandate to restore this whole region of Gyeonggi Province before the Father’s Will, we earnestly ask and desire that Thou grant us to go in a form that can please the Father in our going.

Grant us to know that the remaining days are calling us, and we earnestly desire that Thou grant us to know the fact that the countless people spread throughout all the world crave, wish to see, and long for our figure.

Grant us to know that, just as my own life is precious, the life of the whole of humanity is precious. And we earnestly ask and desire that Thou grant us to become Thy children who can offer up our remaining lives entirely before the Father.

We earnestly ask and desire that Thou grant us to become living sacrifices to resolve the Father’s inner and outer han.

Earnestly asking that Thou Thyself take direct dominion over all that remains, we have prayed all these words, upholding the holy name of the True Parents. Amen.
